Hello, I'm Dr Vinita ratan, I'm a doctor, but also a cosmetic formulator, specifically for skin of color. So, as you know, this entire channel is dedicated to skin of color and it's non-sponsored. So everything that I talk about come from the ingredients list and is backed by science. So today's video is a very interesting one and it's on Priyanka chopra's new hair range called anomaly. So a lot of you have asked me to investigate it and tell you whether it's worth your money or not so Priyanka Chopra for those who don't know started off as a Bollywood star. She won Miss World. I believe and then became a huge Bollywood star and then came to Hollywood, so I I feel, like most most people you know are skin of color. I'Ve heard of her so she's come up with this hair care range and I'm going to start by saying I have a lot of respect for her. I think any female who breaks boundaries and paves away for other skin of color females. You know you can only hold them in the highest regard. I loved her book called unfair. I highly recommend you read it. I also think it's great for daughters to read as well. I think she's, wonderful. I think that she's an entrepreneur and she doesn't just stick in her box. She tries new things. Having said all of that, I'm still going to review this, as if I don't know who she is, and I'm just uh going by the ingredients in every product and does the marketing match what's actually inside it. Foreign. My first impression is that I love the packaging. It'S 100 recycled, so are you from trash which is great for the environment, and I also love the price point. I think that she didn't use her name to charge ridiculous prices, which is what we've seen other celebrities do, and so I also appreciate that so starting off with the first product that is her clarifying shampoo. Now the purpose of a clarifying shampoo is to remove excess residue from your hair and from your scalp. It'S not for everyday use, because it can really dry out your hair. But when it comes to a shampoo, it's important that it's fragrance free because fragrance can lead to contact dermatitis in three to four percent of the population and shampoo actually touches your scalp skin. Now healthy scalp skin equals healthy hair. If you have dandruff or you have an inflamed scalp or you have contact dermatitis, it's going to lead to brittle hair that breaks quickly and it means that that hair will not grow. So, let's read down, the ingredients is starting off with water, which is normal. The second ingredient here is sodium olefin sulfonate. Now this is basically an anionic surfactant. It'S a very drying surfactant, it's one that we actually use in detergents, and I don't like this on the scalp because it can irritate the skin and then the secondary surfactant. She has used is Coca middle propile beating which is very common. It leads to a lot of lathering luxurious, feel very gentle, and I'm happy with that third ingredient. That'S it! Then it's fragrance at that point, which means she's, probably using more than one percent fragrance. There'S no other actives in this product to improve scalp skin, plus she used eucalyptus which can sensitize your scalp as well. So for me, this one is a big note. Please avoid okay. Moving on to the next product is her hydrating shampoo, which I had more hope for because she used the word hydrating. It claims to be hydrating, so, let's go through. The ingredients starts off with water. Of course. The second ingredient here is coconut oil, propyl hydroxy Saltine. This is a synthetic amphoteric, uh surfactant, it's nice mild, gentle, I'm happy for you to use it, but then she went in with the same mistake again and you can tell that she's used the same cosmetic formulator to make this entire range, so she's put in sodium Oliphon sulfonate um and again, obviously this is very drying to the skin and you just wouldn't use this every day. It'S a detergent agent um, so you wouldn't put this in a hydrating shampoo. Then she used coconut, proper betaine, which I love again. You know the gentle surfactant and then fragrance and then fragrance should never be this high up in ingredients list. It should be right at the bottom and everything else after that is a fraction of a percent including glycerin glycerin. Is the water magnet? That'S the thing. That'S going to hydrate your product Priyanka that needs to be high up in the ingredients list. You really want that as your third fourth ingredient, not at a fraction of a percent, it's just not going to work. It'S not going to hydrate it's going to dry, your hair out guys, so this one for me again, unfortunately, is a no so moving on to the gentle shampoos. I thought yes, she's gon na get right with this one, but she made the same like on a gentle shampoo. She put in, of course, water, then sodium Olive and sulfate, as the second ingredient. Now we need to understand about the ingredients list is the higher up. It is the higher the percentage above one percent and so having this terrible surfactant. That'S really drying as your second ingredient. This is the opposite of gentle this and then, and then the good one she puts after so she used a coconut profile, hydroxy Saltine, so you can see it's the same signature of the Cosmetic formulator in everything, because so I'm a formulator as well. When I buy, you know, I love retinaldehyde, for example, a wonderful form of vitamin A for skin of color. I don't buy a small amount, I buy um. You know 50 kg Drums of every ingredient, because I know I'm going to put it into everything, and so that becomes my signature. These key actives that you love as the formulator you buy in Mass bolt because it's cheaper and then you get to reduce the the end cost for the user, but you'll see the that. That format will use that loved ingredient in everything and for some reason this formulator loves sodium olofen sulfonate. I don't know where they got, that information from and then coconut purple, betaine and then fragrance fragrance again, which looks to me as though it's more than one percent, which is just not good. I just would not recommend this on the scalp at all, especially if you've got an itchy scalp or if you've got a Sensitive Scalp. This is the exact opposite of what you should be doing, so this one would be in a void for me. The next one is dry shampoo, which again is a disaster. The first ingredient is hydrofluorocarbon, a propellant for Hairspray. The second ingredient is butane, which is a colorless odorless gas, but it's highly volatile so and the third ingredient is denatured. Alcohol. The third ingredient, which means it's at a high percentage, denatured alcohol, dries the skin. It'S volatile right, so it evaporates quickly has a low boiling point and when it evaporates it takes water away with it, and so it will dry your scalp as well as your hair and will make it irritated and brittle. It also generates free radicals which damages collagen. None of this is good for healthy hair growth. The fourth ingredient is fine she's used to poke a starch which basically just absorbs oils which I'm happy with, but then fragrance high up on that ingredients list. So this one is one two run away from, even though it's cheap right moving on to the conditioners, so the deep conditioning mask now the purpose of a conditioner and a conditioning mask is to smooth the cuticles down and repair hair strands. So it's easier to detangle and you have more Shine from your hair. It looks healthier starting off with the first ingredient. Obviously water, which is fine second ingredient, is Myra style alcohol. Now this is a good alcohol. It'S a fatty, alcohol, it's not a volatile alcohol. So this is a long chain. Alcohol, a denaged alcohol, is a short chain. Alcohol, so they're different categories, completely maristell alcohol is brilliant. It'S lightweight fatty alcohol, it's an emollient and a thickening agent. So that's fine! Then the third ingredient is fragrance. Can you believe that that's the third ingredient, which means it has to be higher than one percent and everything else, is at a fraction of a percent underneath? Are you not in the therapeutic index unlikely to be giving you much benefit nothing in this to smooth your cuticles? Nothing in this to repair your hair. It'S shocking should literally put in water and fat moving on to the next product, which is the bonding treatment mask. So the purpose of a bonding treatment mask is to repair hydrogen bonds in your hair strands again to repair cuticles and to replenish any lost protein, which can happen from UV rays. It can happen from heat styling, which is very common, can happen from chemicals such as chemically straightening, your hair or dyeing your hair, which you know most of us have done at some point in our lives and age and lifestyle as well. So this all all contributes to the health of your hair strand. So let's go through the ingredients list. Is there anything in this to help mend those bonds starting off with water? Then the second ingredient is sativa alcohol. So that's a delicious fatty alcohol, a good, healthy alcohol that I like third ingredient here is behind tremonium chloride, which is an anti-static. That'S what helps you detangle your hair and the fourth ingredient here is ISO hexadecane, which is an emollient as well. So it helps basically smooth things over and then fragrance so again, very high up and everything else, including proteins, are at a fraction of a percent. I unlikely to be working plus as denatured alcohol in this product terrible product, unfortunately, but cheap and probably people are going to buy it because blanket Joker is a celebrity. She is an icon and you know even I respect her a lot. So if you don't understand the ingredients list, you're just going to go by what she's saying - and I think it's not even her fault. To be honest, I just think you Outsource this she's, not a cosmetic formulator. So what is she going to do? She'S, not in the lab, you know using her knowledge to put ingredients together, she's had to pay a cosmetic formulator to do it, and how do you assess who's, the best cosmetic formulator to make your products for you? If you don't understand the chemistry yourself, I think she's tried to do something good, and I have a lot of respect for that, but I just think she picked the wrong formulator. Moving on to the leave-in conditioner and honestly, the formulator just got lazy. At this point I mean it's the most ridiculous ingredients list I've seen water cetera alcohol, which is a nice fatty, alcohol and then fragrance. I really and then she's putting isopropyl alcohol, which is your denatured. Alcohol all extracts any anti-inflammatories. Any good ingredients are all at less than one percent, and this can this then turns into a bit of a marketing gimmick, because what you can say is, oh, you know, I've put in this protein. I'Ve put in this plant extract, but if they're not in the therapeutic index, there's no point you're putting it in there you're putting in there just so that on the packaging, you're right, I've written I've put in XY protein and extract. Unfortunately, where we go wrong in cosmetics, because we don't have strict laws when it comes to whether an ingredient is going to work and it's in the therapeutic index and packaged correctly or not, which is really why I create this channel so that I could go through Ingredients list with you almost be your Google Translate for skin care and hair care and be non-sponsored. So you know everything is coming from the information that we've been given from science. The eighth and last product is her hair and scalp oil. So, first of all, you never put oil on your scalp. There'S a a fungus called malassezia, it's a yeast, it's a microbe and it feeds on oil. This leads to dandruff those people who have dandruff have 10 times as much malassezia on the scalp than someone without dandruff. Now, 50 to 70 percent of the population suffers with dandruff. This is a very, very common condition and there's now clinical evidence that you have increased hair shedding when you have increased malassezia. So please I know, especially in the Asian community and in the African Community. You know: oiling the scalp was considered. You know a traditional thing to do. It was considered self-care, it's what you know. Generations have done before, and the reason it was done is because the thought was if I have a dry scalp, if I put water on water will just evaporate. If I put oil on it will hydrate the scalp, which would normally make sense. I would be happy for you to do that on your body. For example, if you have dry skin, I would tell you to use a barrier oil and because of the number of hair follicles on your scalp producing sebum already, which is what malassezia is feeding on, don't exacerbate the situation, don't make it worse. We have better products. Now than we had even three years ago, let alone you know 30 40 100 years ago, so science has also evolved, and I want my Global skin of color family to have the best, hair and skin of your lives, and that means using up-to-date information. And again, that's why I made this channel for you if you are passionate about hair and skin care for skin of color. Please do get your hands on skin revolutions book that I publish with harpercollins and I've gone through everything that you need to know, ingredients, products that are non-sponsored of, and it's something that I think all families should have so that your children can read it too. anushree chaudhary: Not a single India-based youtuber has done a detailed review.. there have been Shorts here & there which of course shower compliments on the product.. So, a big thanks to you Dr. Vanita for your extremely helpful insights

T: Wow that's shocking. So grateful for you showing us the science. I know you said it's not her fault but actually when you put your name on something, you have accountability for it. So she didn't go to a legit dermatologist for ideal ingredients? She just went to a cheap back road formulator for cheap products. It's literally shameful what she's done.

Skye: I am so tried if celebrities putting their names if products that they know nothing about. Thanks for helping us decode products like this range and saving people buying products that do not work and more importantly stopping people from creating hair/skin problems that they may have never had.

samodhya: I respect your honesty. I've never seen someone with such a big heart. You are one of a kind. Everyone benefits from your work. Love u loads.

Aditi Tiwari: I’ve used clarifying shampoo, it works amazingly for me as I have extremely oily scalp. My hair used to get greasy before 24 hours of hair wash, now it’s staying bouncy even after 48 hours. That’s a big plus for me

keertana s murthy: Dr V, I can't express how grateful I am to you. Your service to our community is beyond words. Thank you soo much. I have eczema from years and eczemic scalp too. Imagine the hazard it would be if I bought these products which I was considering buying coz uk Priyanka Chopra and there were lot of good reviews on it. But thanks for breaking it down and explaining us what it will actually do. You are doing god's work.

___NIVI___: Hello Dr V.. first of all thank you very much for making this video. I was actually checking these products, as they are affordable. It is much needed for people who don't understand ingredients and what they are actually paying for.

Fatima Aslam: Thankyou for being so prompt with this review..lots of love from India

manasa chandrasheker: Thank you for this review! Sometimes it's easy to be swayed by Indian celebrities to support them when you are staying out of the country but if it doesn't do what it's supposed to do, it's better to stay away !

I have a query for my mom, She is 47 years old and has got Melasma (doctors said it's butterfly pigmentation). She has been suffering from it for the last 3 years and has undergone several treatments including peels, PRP, and has been applying several creams prescribed by the doctor but there hasn't been any improvement. Could you please suggest something that might help in curing her melasma?

SB: Dr. V while your guidance on skincare has been super helpful; what I personally still struggle with and seem to be going wrong with is make up.. what products are ok to use for oily/acne prone skin. alka singh: Most western doctor say the same about oil but if I stop oil after around 6-7 weeks I will get terrible hairfall( tried twice). I use clarfying shampoo once a week and a shampoo brush. My scalp does not have any dandruff.

Asia Wilson: Dr V please do a video on sunscreen for the body for skin of color. I have the colorscience brand that you recommended in your sunscreen video a long time ago but I can’t afford almost $50 for only 1.7 ounces for my entire body. I only use it on my face and am kind of blind as to where to look for body sunscreen

Sweetpotato: Can you make a video suggesting heat protectants spray for hair?❤️

Mala Ranganathan: Dr V can you please suggest a good brand which is available in INDIA for dandruff? And also a SPF 50sunscreen without white cast in INDIA?

Vinay Rajput: I guess having your own brand and then reviewing another brand is totally illegal and I don't know about others but my mother having lots of hair fall and even when ever she makes her hair lot's of hair comes out from her head but she is using anomaly since 1.5 months and results are postive.. 1- her hair become stronger 2- within 1.5 months around 40-50 % hair fall reduce 3- thickness come to her hair otherwise her hair became so thin 4- even her hair become soft and silk and shine.. The only thing is that it's little expensive for middle class people but for me money doesn't matter infront of my mother!!

Debosmita Dey: Dr.V more nykaa series please. Best retinol, collagen drink, peptide and vitamin C available in india. Thank you.

Hari Chintha: Dr V, can you suggest good skin care products for dark spots during the current Sephora sale please.
