Today, I'm going to be giving you the Ultimate Guide to Fuller, looking hair for those of you who really struggle with getting volume or styling your thin or very fine hair and guess what I brought into the studio to model for us. It'S gem, it's Jen! You may recognize Jen from the fine Haircut video or you may recognize her from the other fine hair, styling video. I did. I just know that whenever Jen comes into the studio, the videos tend to go viral. You guys love her, you just love her, and so do I. She has very relatable hair texture and we just love that here we don't only want to showcase supermodels with super model hair. We want to showcase women with all different types of textures and densities and colors and all the things so Jen is someone that you guys can relate to, and I'm so happy that she is back on the channel. I told her this morning not to style her hair, so this is what she looks like straight out of bed. As you can see, Jen's individual hair strand diameter is very fine and her density is thin to medium. She has a lot less hair in the front of her head, especially especially around the temples and a bit more towards the back, which is very common. If you have this pattern of growth, I see it literally all the time, including on myself. I have much finer hair at the front, so it is very, very normal. Don'T get too stressed out about it, it's annoying, but it is normal. The little hairs that Jen has in the front are growing in really nicely, so they look like baby hairs, but since they are shorter, she doesn't have that strong frontal. Baseline Jen also has a very defined cowlick at the front, and I'm going to show you how to style that away, so that the Fringe sits perfectly in case. You struggle with that too, because it's also a very common struggle. I did her makeup off camera so that she would feel like the Glamorous queen that she is today and then we got started on her hair. There are three things that you need in order to get perfect hair results and those things are products, proper tools and styling techniques. I am super thankful that this video is sponsored by keratin today, because I love their products and I use them all the time to get the hair results that I want known only on myself, but also on my clients. So thank you to keratin for supporting the channel allowing me to make content for you and also for just making some really amazing products that work super. Well all right. Let'S get started when you are working with fine hair, you need to style from the clean and wet stage. This is super important. It is very difficult to get really amazing results on hair. That is fine. If you start with dry hair, this type of hair gets weighed down very easily and can be super challenging to manipulate when it's dry already. So you really do need to start with it wet to be able to get the shape that you want. So, let's wash Jen's hair first, if you want maximum volume in your style, every single product that you use, including when you are shampooing and conditioning, needs to be geared towards getting thickness and density in the hair. The first product that I'm going to use is from keratin's freshening line, and it is the shampoo and the conditioner. This shampoo is specifically designed to stimulate hair growth and prevent hair loss during your wash routine. It has keratin and biotin, as well as key oils for hair growth like Argan, Rosemary and peppermint. Now, when we have fine hair, the thought of using oils feels super scary, but I am telling you this will not weigh your hair down at all and you will see that it is weightless, as I style Jen's super fine hair. When I apply this specific shampoo, I bring it to a lather and then I let it sit on the scalp for about a minute so that the scalp and the hair follicles can absorb the nutrients in the product. I don't do that for every shampoo, but for this one, because it has those key ingredients for hair loss. I definitely do give it that time and then, when I use the conditioner, I keep it about two inches away from the roots, so that I don't risk it weighing The Roots down at all. This isn't a heavy conditioner, but for a texture like gems, you really do want to keep it away from the roots. Now you need to start a product cocktail in the wet stage that will give you longer lasting cold in the volume that we are about to create with our Hot Tools. So the first thing that I used was the extensive thickening treatment. This product is a best seller in the Keratin line, and I definitely can see why this uses a polymer technology that will increase the hair's thickness and strength over time, which basically means it will stop it from breaking and from shedding excessively. It also works as a Heat Protector, a damage repair product and a moisturizing product, so this is really cool and - and it's also completely weightless. So if you're looking for a leave-in, conditioner style spray product, but you have thinning or fine hair, then get this one. This one really is great for that, and it's not gon na weigh your hair down. It'S actually going to do the exact opposite. It'S going to thicken those strands up. Next, I want to amp up the volume and The Roots, so I'm going to use my root. Volumizer, the formulation of this is also interesting and unique to other root volume products that I've used in the past, because it has a natural sugar starch which coats each strand making it look fuller, but it also has lemon and witch hazel extract, which dissolves excess oil And helps extend the time between washes. I know that a lot of people with excessively fine hair feel, like their hair, is always greasy at the roots, even after immediately washing it. So this will stop that from happening too quickly. It really does keep keep that area in the scalp kind of oil free. So it's awesome gives you volume and keeps it oil free for a longer duration of time and then finally, we need something in the midshafts and ends as well. So for that, I like using the volumizing mousse, this has orange extract, which Jen noticed immediately. It makes the hair smell amazing, which is always such a treat, and it also makes the hair look glossy. It increases volume and it deeply Smooths and hydrates. So, in a nutshell, what we're doing is we're treating the hair with the extensive thickening treatment. First, then, we're boosting the volume at the root and keeping it longer lasting with the root volumizer, and then we're boosting the volume again and increasing the shine. But in the mid shafts and ends now with the volumizing mousse, this is the perfect cocktail to create volume and shine and a long, lasting style. Let'S blow dry, I am using a one inch ceramic round brush on Jen all of the products and the tools used. Will be linked in this description box as they always are. The first thing that I like to do is rough dry, the hair to get rid of excessive moisture. It is less damaging to blow out hair that isn't soaked for one and it's also much less time consuming and you get more shine and less frizz. That way, when you are rough drying, you want to hold the hair out 90 degrees from the head. You want to infuse the root with volume right from the beginning. Then, once you have the hair about 50 percent dry, you can start with your round brush. Now, when you are round brushing, if you're looking for maximum volume that lasts a really long time, you want to blow dry the base of the hair upwards and not downwards. You want to make sure that you're getting that root, a hundred percent dry, there's absolutely no dampness left left in the root and that you are manipulating the root to curve up and over. So look at the position of the round brush. When I do this, I am moving everything in an upwards Direction. Every single strand of hair is being blow dried up before it's curving over. When I get to the very top of the head, instead of blow drying in a part line, I blow dry that entire top Mohawk section backwards, really exaggerating the movement of my brush. I am not even blow drying up 90 degrees from the head here. I am actually blow drying forward to get that huge, lift at the front where it really counts, so we're giving it even more lift than we would if we were doing a 90 degree up blow dry and over foreign, this cowlick, because this is a problem. A lot of you guys have so when you're trying to tame a cowlick, you have to do it when it is totally wet or it will not work. It has to be wet. So, as you can see, I wet it down first and then I took a fine-tooth comb and I did what I call confusing the root. So basically, I push the hair down with the fine teeth of that comb and I blow dried it all the way to one side and then all the way to the other side and all the way to one side and all the way to the other side. Until it was a hundred percent dry, when the root was a hundred percent dry and flat, I beveled the ends to give it a nice curve with my round brush again. So, as you can see, it's laying perfectly across the forehead without wanting to lift or be all crazy with the cowlick. Now, here's an extra step that you can do if you really want that style to have maximum volume and to last a very long time, you can use no surprise here, velcro rollers! I talk about them all the time. I avoided The Fringe on Jen because she has that cowlick there and we've already tamed it so for her I did a mohawk placement right at the very top of the head, but behind The Fringe now here is a mistake. I often see made if you want maximum volume, you need to place the rollers on base, let's nerd out with hair less talk theory. So basically, what that means is that the roller needs to sit directly on top of its base. The way that you get it to do that is to over direct the hair, greater than 90 degrees, so you are directing the hair towards the front of the face and rolling it down. So the hair is sitting right on top of its base. So take a look at this for reference. If you pull the hair 90 degrees up and roll it down, the roller will sit half way on its base and it will give you a medium amount of volume which is not what we want in this case. If you hold the Strand 45 degrees back and roll it down, it will sit off base and that's going to give you the least amount of volume, so just make sure to push the hair forward above 90 degrees before rolling down. To give you the max amount of lift, if that's what you want, if you don't want the max amount of lift, then you can go half off base or even off base, but truthfully, I don't know if I'm here, a girl who doesn't want a lot of Lift after that, I heated up the velcro rollers with the diffuser attachment on high heat. I let the hair cool down completely, and then I released it just so you guys know velcro rollers won't do anything unless the hair that is placed on it is hot. Hair is malleable when it's hot and it sets its shape when it's cool. So if you want the rollers to give you volume, you either need to place your hair in it when it is hot from the blow out or heat it up when it's on, then you want to wait until the hair is a hundred percent cooled down to Release it, and when you do that, look how much incredible amounts of crazy volume you get even on low density, fine hair. So here we go. This is our final result. As you can see here, Jen's hair looks like it is double the density. The roots are super lifted from the root volumizer spray. The mids and ends are full glossy and super shiny from the extensive thickening treatment and from the volumizing mousse. Helen L: Thanks for the tips in this video. After wearing ky hair in curly styles for the past 2 years, I was bored and saw one if your other videos using the Tymo Ionic Volumuzing Brush Blowdryer. I used it along with a volume blow out cream I had on hand and was very pleased with my first attempt. Next time I will try the superlarge velcro rollers for added volume. But even without them, the Tymo was a pretty handy tool. I have fine thin gray wavy/ curly snd graying hair so I need all the help I can get. I also have increased my protein intake, am on low carb and take Hairflair supplements which has helped.
