This is a protein treatment, however, the name protein treatment is vastly inaccurate. A protein is a large bioactive molecule. Our entire hair strand is one large protein called keratin. A protein treatment is actually an amino acid treatment. Amino acids are small molecules that bind together to build the larger protein structure. Why is this distinction important, let's think of hair strands like a baby, a baby needs nutrients to grow. So would you give a baby a steak to eat? No, you wouldn't. Why? Because we all know, babies need easily digestible food for their stomachs. The same thing can be applied to hair and protein treatments. Hair strands cannot effectively utilize large protein molecules within its structure, hairs of fiber, which means it can experience weakening from combing or even exposure to the environment. This causes weak spots or even cracks in the hair shaft. Upon closer look with protein treatments, the amino acids are small enough to penetrate the hair strand and bind to any weak spots when the treatment dries with heat. The amino acid locks in Like Glue restoring the Integrity of the Strand and reduces breakage. We already spoke about why applying protein treatments to your scalp is beneficial to the health of your hair. Once your strands are fully covered, it's necessary that you allow the treatment to fully dry, so the bound amino acids are secure.

Ghibli: Thanks, Nica! Love the information and lessons on our hair. You've taught me so much on technique and common hair health issues, in our community

Mia P.: I love all this education you are giving!! Thank you so much!! I am learning more now than I have in the 12 years I have been natural.

Samm: I love your authenticity! You are by far the best hair adviser out here.

From A to 4z: These tips! I haven't been letting my proteins dry on my hair, so I will try doing this to see if I get a different result. I add hydrolyzed proteins to my ayurvedic masks then cover with a plastic cap. There are times when my hair feels strengthened, but more often that not they make my hair feel soft. I can never predict what the outcome will be or why. Maybe the days when I take pictures and they dry out gives me the strengthening results? I also started adding aminos to my routine and they make my hair feel soft! Girl! I'm feeling like Black Barbie! I'll play around with the drying technique with these as well. I don't use heat on my hair, so I might have to try air drying....

Vkusni Wisna: Hey lovely! You know I have to catch all of your valuable hair videos. Always love to watch you take care of your hair as well! and noooo, I did not hear about this case! I want to look into it. ♥️ Have a wonder-filled day

MzBatyah: I've heard of the Olaplex meleé. I can't call it. I know when I have used their products, my hair is soft and maintains its moisture longer in between wash days. No excessive amount of my hair is lost. ‍♀️

Chels: Very informative! Thank you ! Any suggestions on which brand of treatments to try? How to tell they are effective? (I’m new haha)

MzBatyah: Thank you for this informative video.

J Q: Wait, so do you use it as a leave in or do you use the blow dryer to dry your hair then wash it out? TIA

Tai-chan: It all makes sense..

The Growing Mom: What protein treatment do you use?

Rene Renewed: My hair hates protein

Randall Jordan: Can I use braggs liquid amino acid?
