D Patru asks: Sir, I am 20 years old. My moustache and beard hair are not growing. Please advise any solution.
In his response, Dr John Watts tells him that the hormonal changes usually start when one turns 20. This brings in noticeable moustache and beard hair growth. Sometimes, this process can get delayed up to 24-25 years but there is nothing to worry about.
“However, if you have a family history of lack of beard and moustache hair there is a chance that you may have carried the same genes. Though a hair transplant is a solution for beard and moustache hair, you can wait till you turn 25 years for it,” advised Dr John.
Mahi G asks: Sir, can overthink lead to hair fall? Please explain.
In his response, Dr John Watts tells Mahi that usually thinking should lead to understanding an issue or finding a solution to a problem. This is a natural process and there is nothing wrong with it. “However, overthinking does not lead to any solution and it leads to a vicious cycle. The consequence is stress, which leads to hair fall,” explained Dr John.
He advised Mahi to divert his overthinking urge by taking up any hobby he likes such as gardening, painting or music seriously.
AK 47 Gun asks: Sir, I have hair fall and face dandruff issues. I intend to use anti-DHT shampoo and ketoconazole shampoo. Can I use both of them together? Is it safe? Will they lead to hair regrowth? Please explain.
In his response, Dr John Watts tells him that using both the shampoos together is not advisable as they won’t be effective either that way.
“You can use them independently but not together,” informed Dr John. He explained that ketoconazole shampoo is used for dandruff control and it can be used for 2-3 days continuously and later once a week.
However, when it comes to using anti-DHT shampoo, Dr John said that only taking shampoo may not be effective as the anti-DHT medication is also available in oral drug and lotion forms. “Only shampoo is not useful,” he explained
Subbu P asks: Sir, I have used Minoxidil lotion for one year and I intend to stop it now. Will it lead to hair fall? Will my existing hair get affected or lead it hair fall? Please explain.
In his response, Dr John Watts tells Subbu that the Minoxidil-induced new hair growth will not last if the medication is stopped. “There is no need for you to stop Minoxidil. It is not advisable,” informed Dr John.
But, in case, Minoxidil use is stopped and existing hair starts falling or thinning, Dr John advised him to consult his dermatologist to rule out the onset of genetic baldness and take proper medication to prevent further baldness.
