Hi sarah bannis here learn to craft. I am going to show you something really neat today: i'm going to show you how to make um hair bows with your cricut or with your silhouette, or you can hand cut them if you're going to hand cut this, it's as simple as cutting out the pattern. I'M sorry printing out the pattern and then you cut out each piece and then you take a piece of faux leather i'll show you take a piece of faux leather flip it over on its back and then you would just put the pattern right. On top of it and draw it on there with a pen and then cut it out, that is obviously a little bit more labor intensive than just loading the loading, the design onto your machine, popping the machine and popping the mat in the machine and cutting it. That'S what we have done here, um these were cut on a maker three. You can cut it on any any cricut at all. Um. All the way up from you know explore forward uh any silhouette. So this isn't thick. This is just you know: lightweight um, faux leather. I got both of these on amazon. I will link everything that i use here in the video description when you're looking at the video underneath there's a little like um drop down like a little arrow down. Click on that that'll expand and then inside of that i will link the the bow template that i have used. This is a great template. I didn't go overboard for our first bow, making video just a real nice basic cute, bow template um. I will link the full leather that i've used, i'm also going to link our facebook group uh i'll link, qriket and silhouette for beginners. It'S about. We have about 2 million members total across all of our groups. Qriken silhouette for beginners is about 200 000 super friendly super helpful you'll fit right in so join us there um. If this video is of interest to you, like the video but also subscribe to my channel coming out with new videos once or twice a week, lots of great new crafts that you wouldn't have thought of to do before or that you always wanted to know how To do made simple you're not going to want to miss them subscribe to my channel you'll get a notification when the new videos come out um. So let's go ahead and get started. This is this is really simple. So this is what you're going to need. You'Re going to need clips, these are the ones i use i'll link these in the video description as well. These are great clips. Um you're gon na need faux leather, you're gon na need a hot glue gun. I recently got a wireless one if you're working without a wireless hot glue gun, even if you only hot glue once in a while, you are wrapping yourself. I this was super inexpensive too. I was going to get one of those like 150 ones. This was like 40 bucks. It heats up, really quick, it stays heated up it really. I mean it really works great um. So i will link this in the video description. I got it on amazon everything i got on amazon other than this maybe um. This probably came from michael's, so this is um gross green gross grain ribbon, whatever it is, the one with the stripes on it, um generally made out of polyester, so this isn't a necessary step. Most people will not show you to do this. I'M going to show you to do it because it makes the bow stay in the kid's hair much better, especially if you're dealing with one of the younger younger kids that has real fine hair um. This will make the bow stay in the hair 10 times longer. So if you can, if you have this, you don't want to skip the snap. So let's move these over to the side. So for this part, what you do to measure it start at the beginning of your clip kind of just run it around and then from there you're actually going to so keep that where you're at there and then this will give you a perfect, perfect sizing and Then run it around just the um clip part one more time because you're going to be lining the inside, also okay. So then you can cut that off um. I don't have a lighter up here, but i so i won't be able to do. One thing that you can do is you can kind of run a lighter along the edge, the two edges that you cut and that'll stop it from fraying. But for the sake of this video, i'm not going to go, hunt down a lighter. So what you're going to do is you're going to open it up and you're going to start at the inside okay and you're, going to run a little bit of hot glue along the inside. You don't want too much. I actually probably put a little bit too much and then just kind of lay that in there and then get it straight, i'm a little bit off the edge, but it's okay, i'm not gon na, not gon na go for perfection on this one. This is just for you guys to see how it's made so yeah. I did that a little bit, probably should have probably should have looked at it from this side. Let'S go ahead and try to stretch that in a little bit. Okay, that's fine! That'S fine! Doesn'T matter so then next you're going to so you can see, i have it on the inside right. So next you're going to carefully. Obviously hot glue is hot. Hold it like that and run some hot glue like this on this side right there and then just flip that right up like that, make it nice and even on there, okay and then squish it flat so that it's nice and nice, and even on there and Now this part got to be a little bit careful you're, just going to put a dab on this side of the inside and a dab on the other side of the inside okay and then stick that right inside of there. Just like that see how i just stuck my thumb right down in there: stick it right down inside of there pinch it up against that side, pinch it up against this side. Okay, and this might seem um. You know, like kind of like a pain, to do this extra step, but i promise you it's it's worth it in the long run, your your the quality of the product that you're making doing this extra step is um worth it. So do this part just the upper part flip that down okay now this part is tricky. You have to hold it open, because if you don't hold it open you're going to get glue on your inside and you don't want to do that. So, do you see how much easier the wireless is? It really makes such a difference recorded less, not wireless, okay, okay, now just one more, it actually has probably just about enough inside there already, but - and i think i'm going to actually shorten this just a tad bit because i'd hate to get it in there and It'D be too long, so then flip that right inside of there, oh - and i should not shouldn't - have cut that because it was the perfect length, but that's okay, it doesn't matter, want this to be nice and even on there, and this isn't going to be super Visible on your bow, so it doesn't have to be perfect but um, okay. So so that's that, okay, so that again, that doesn't look like anything special. But what happens is that gross grain ribbon that holds that on there, so that holds it on the hair? It'S it's much much much better to do this plus your backside looks just cleaner. It looks better so now, let's get to the bow bow is super easy. I feel like the a little bit of smoke from that's getting you guys. So this is the bow. Now when i'm cutting on my machine, i always cut um, i always cut faux leather mirrored, and then i flipped the faux leather upside down so that it cuts through this, like um kind of soft part. First, that way, you don't end up a little frayed bits. Okay, so i always do that and then i tape it down with um like packing tape on all four sides, so that i get a good, solid, cut. Okay, so the way you put this together is this: so let's look here so this is the tap. That'S the top! That'S next! Okay! So the first thing you do take the top one. This is the top okay, and then you put a little bit of hot glue right there right in the center, just a little tiny bit and any little bits that you have coming up off of it. You can clean those up afterwards. It'S not a big deal. Okay, so you want to make it so that you're um, so that all your sides fit together and you saw how i did that now put another little bit on this okay and then just like that, so this is going to be your top part. Okay. So that's nice and don't worry about this. That'S all going to get covered up. So that's that and then the next part is actually um. So the next part both of these go together, like this that'll, be like that. So you want to put both of these together, like this and you're, going to take a dot of this and put it right here, oops dotted that right there again does not have to be perfect and just kind of center that on there you want to get This pretty pretty centered, you want that. You want that to be just about perfect, just kind of tap it together. If you get a little bit of hot glue on your hands, it's not a problem as long as it didn't just come out of the gun there. You go okay, so now the next step flip it upside down. Take it like this, a little dot flip this down like that, and you can make this bigger. If you want it bigger um, you know obviously, depending on the age of the child, that you're putting it on. I found that this is a good size, so you can see that i'm doing both sides. You can do it either way. You can put, you know both of one down and then both of the other down, i'm doing both sides i'm doing both on one side and then both on the other side. That doesn't really make a difference not on this bow. At least some bows. You have to kind of take a look at before you start putting it together and make sure you're putting it together correctly, but these are so simple that you um, you know you'll get a feel for them over time and there's some. There are some bow makers that just you know you know their work, you get to know their work and you just it's just you know that every time you're going to get a perfect bow. You can see that i, some of my packing tape, is still on here. Oh well, not a big deal um so like there's certain bow makers like this one. This i i go back to them, um, because i know that when i, when i buy bow templates from them, they're going to be good quality templates and you'll over time. You'Ll learn. You know who you like and who styles are best for what you like to make, but can you even see like how much excess waste you get with this glue gun? I really really like this glue gun. I can't believe that i don't know how many, but way too many years i went crafting without one of these life could have been so much easier. Do you see how pretty that that um faux leather is so i don't know if you can see how sparkly that is super super pretty. So this is the back of our bow. So now we're just gon na take put a little dot on there and then center this nice on there make sure that your you know, your top side is up hold that together for a second, so that it can all come together and then your last piece Again, make sure that you're putting your back, but that's not going to really matter a ton, but you want to put your back part in the bag and that's your final layer. Isn'T that so cute already i love this gray and the pink together. So i'm just going to let that heal up for a minute and then this is going to go in the center and i'll show you how to attach that to this you're, not just going to glue this on here. If you just glue this on here, it'll fall off so i'll. Show you how to um how to attach this so put another dot of glue right on top and then take this and kind of center it on there. And then you want to kind of give this one a second, because you want this to you, want this to all be nice and nice and put together before you move forward boy, that is those colors just look spectacular together. Okay, so now, this is how you do this part: okay, so you're going to want to hold this open. Okay, so pop this right on here and then hold that open and now inside of there i don't know if you can see. Let me try standing up inside of here, you're going to put a dab of glue right inside of there. Okay, maybe even put a little bit right here, too. Okay, don't worry about these little stray beds and then yeah see she could have made that just a little bit longer. What i should have done is, i should have put an extra dab of glue um underneath the bow. Actually, maybe i will maybe i still will just give me a second, so i am going to because that isn't that could have been just a tad bit. This part of the leather could have been just a tad bit longer um, so that's gon na be. It would have been long enough if i hadn't added on the um this the uh clip, but she should have made that just a little bit longer. But that's okay! So what we're gon na do we're just gon na um work with this on the next one that i make i will cut this. I will extend that and make that just a little bit longer. So what i'm gon na do is i'm going to be careful that doesn't shut, so you don't get glue on the inside of it. Okay, i think that's done enough now. So what i'm gon na do to give myself a little bit extra um strength, because that is shorter is i am going to put a little bit of glue right there. Actually, you know what i can probably glue this entire thing right on here and that'll be just fine, and i think we all know that you know in crafting that you just kind of kind of go with it and you find what works and you know we All know our materials well enough that um when things happen, that don't happen quite the way we expect them to that. We can figure it out. So this yeah that's going to be just a little bit too short, it's going to come around all the way, but you really want it to overlap just a little bit. So that'll be okay, but i would i would have preferred that it overlapped a little bit but that'll be fine and it's gon na be super pretty and that extra glue on the inside will hold it perfectly um, and it's not like you know, kids are. I was gon na say it's not like kids are tearing these out of their hair, but that actually might not be completely true. I think we all know that kids do sometimes rip their bows out of their hair um, but that's okay. This is gon na be perfect. This is going to be super pretty, so you can see on the inside that that is nice and healed. I don't know if you can see that it's nice and healed, so that's perfect that'll with a little bit of extra glue. That'S in there that'll be perfect um, so so that's it. That is all there is to it, so maybe puff that out just a little little bit and then something else that you can do with these so um. Something else that you can do that's super pretty is you can take stuff like this um? Actually, these ones are okay, but these ones are prettier, so these are all just like little gemstones and then you can add, like gemstones onto a cute one like that's a little or a little um like something like that. Obviously, that color doesn't work with that, but these are cute and again i get these on amazon um. So that's it. That is all there is to hair bows. Hair bows are super easy and super cute um, i'm gon na make another one soon. It'S like a little pencil and that's really cute dude, i'm just waiting on one more color, colorful leather, that i had to order for that one. But that's it like.
