My name is Lucy, I'm a Dutchwoman here to offer an alternative approach to beauty.

On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies, tv shows or history and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!

I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my little passion project.

You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and home & interior videos.

Enjoy browsing!

Hey guys welcome to a new video, so i love edwardian hair. You love edwardian hair. Everybody loves edwardian hair. I have made edwardian hair way too complicated for all of us. Usually i tend to do these really elaborate. Hairstyles lots of curls, very formal or staged photography. Updos, but there is so much more to edwardian hair and there are so many ways to make it more accessible. So today i thought i would show you a couple of casual edwardian hairstyles. I found this image on pinterest that features a load of photos from this era of real life, women with real life, hair styles, and you can tell that not nearly all of them put that much effort into their hair. You can tell these hairstyles are much simpler than many of the very elaborate evening hairstyles. That is what we're going to do today, we're going to make edwardian hair a little bit easier. So before we do anything, we need to prep the hair and i've already gone ahead, got a hand. I'Ve already gone ahead and done that. So i started by spraying my hair with some dry shampoo. You could use a texturizing spray just anything to give the hair a bit more grit, because our modernly shampooed hair tends to be a little bit too slippery, especially if you already have fine hair like i do so. Dry shampoo and i put my hair in rollers overnight, so that i now have a bunch of texture and some curls and fluffiness. We definitely need fluffiness for this. You don't necessarily have to curl your hair. Quite a few of these women don't have their hair curled, but you do need a bit of texture to your hair. So that's important and if you have fine or thinner hair, then curls definitely help to build some of that volume. Next thing i am going to do is a little bit of backcombing along the front of my hair. Now, as i'm sure many of you are aware, the edwardians did not shy away from a hairpiece or two and they would have used hair rats uh, but i'm just assuming most of us don't have piles of our own shedded hair lying around somewhere in the house. So i am going to work with a little bit of backcombing. Don'T worry about backcombing too much a little bit of gentle teasing. Won'T do much bad to your hair. Just be sure that when you comb it out, your gentle, maybe even just do it in the shower and use a bit of conditioner to detangle your hair. If your hair does tangle easily, i'm just going around the front creating a bit of volume. If you are strongly opposed to back combing, then by all means feel free to use a hair rat or one of those hair donuts, you can cut them up, create a tube, almost and use that as padding for your hair. But my teasing is done. I look like a mad professor now, which is a perfect starting look for any hairstyle, so i am just going to grab all of this hair actually from right behind my ears going all the way up, and i want to make sure that the outside of my Hair is kind of smoothed, but that i don't ruin my volume here. So i'm just going to gather it all into a kind of ponytail. On top of my head, give it a little twist and push it forward so that we have a little bit of a proof. My bangs are going to be giving me trouble throughout this entire video by the way. So try not to mind those. If you don't have them, then you're golden uh, i'm then going to take a bobby pin. I'M just going to slide that in here to hold this hair up. Let me just back on these so that they hopefully stay a little bit better. Oh, maybe try and stick in a pin, come on bangs behave there. We go that's better and then the rest of the hair. You can just comb through create a nice little frizzy wave, the edwardians love their frizzy hair and i can't blame them. I really like it as well, and that is actually the first hairstyle done. I have seen this one quite a lot. It seems to be a pretty often occurring one, and i have to say i really like it. It'S a really nice kind of basic hairstyle. If you wanted to spice this up a little bit, you could take a nice big hair, bow the edwardians love to accessorize their hairstyles. You can take a hair bow like this. Mine comes with a beret in the back and just put that either in place or on top of the bobby pins, and that just gives a little something extra to the back of the hairstyle. Once your hair is prepped, then this is a matter of a couple of seconds and it looks really cute now, while we have this tease and this kind of upward motion, i'm gon na try and retain that and actually just pull in the rest of my hair. As well loosely, we want to keep again a lot of that volume. Just gon na pull everything up, and now it's up to you how historically accurate you want to make this. If you want this to just be secure and last well all day, then by all means use a hair elastic. If you don't, and you want to be a bit more historically correct, then you can twist this into a bun just a very plain and simple cinnamon. Bun, don't make it too tight again we're all about the lights and airy hairstyles here and then secure this with a couple of bobby pins and again, if you're going for historical accuracy, then hairpins are the way to go these kind of. Can you see that u-shaped ones, but again very much, depends on your hair type? How well those will hold? I need to fix my bangs again and there we are another super basic, yet very recognizably, edwardian style hairstyle a simple top knot as long as you make sure there is some volume around the edges here, then you are all good, and this is a super quick And super simple, a really cute casual, edwardian type hairstyle. If you have bangs, stick to maybe regency curl them be done with it. Yeah edwardian era isn't kind to bangs next hairstyle, definitely better to do on curl hair, but we are going to do something. That is a casual center part. Don'T make it too strict it's kind of straight um if your hair doesn't naturally part in the center by all means, follow the cos lick um, but just make sure that it is kind of you know, parted somewhere close to the center of your head. We are going to allow again for a lot of volume and room in the front here, so i'm just gon na actually pull back the hair and then pin it while again pushing it forward a little bit to make sure. I have plenty of volume here. Same thing on the other side, and then for the back. I don't think this is historically correct. This probably isn't how they did it, there's probably more to this hairstyle, but it can definitely be done this way. You'Re, just gon na grab the hair and kind of just roll it up like that, so that it creates this big kind of voluminous thing in the back and then just secure this with. However, many bobby pins, you need to make this feel like it'll stay for a couple of hours. Now, if you're going for a bit more of a romantic look, then you could pull some strands out in the front here some nice loose curls. I need another pin here, but there we go here is another edwardian type hairstyle. That only requires a couple of seconds of work once you have done all the prep or if your hair is naturally curly. I envy you, you can do this literally in just a couple of seconds, without even having to do any of the prep. It'S definitely one of my personal favorites. Now, if you wanted to spice this up, like they did silk flowers or polyester flowers, because this is the 21st century, you can just stick a headband with flowers. On top of this, hairstyle make sure there is plenty of floof in front of them and behind there is your hairstyle with a little bit more pizzazz or if you want to be really fancy pull the flowers to one side. Ah now i genuinely - i really love this one, it's so simple, but so effective, absolutely gorgeous highly recommend. Next up, i have a style that is historically for younger. Ladies only but honestly, who cares for that? One we're gon na go for a side parting, i'd, say about half way top of your eyebrow, so maybe around here would be good and then we're going to do the same thing with the poofy front. So i'm just going to pull back this hair to right. Above my ear, i'm just going to kind of push it forward and secure it with a pin, ensure that fluff on top same thing on the other side, push it forward secure with the pin. Let me just tame my bangs again here, good enough. Okay. So now you can either go for one or two braids in the back um i have seen both both looks amazing. I think i am just going to go for one for a little bit more of a grown-up look, so i'm just gon na separate my hair into three sections. I'M just gon na make my way down, and then you could secure the end either with a small hair elastic or for a bit more fun again, hair bow, which i'm definitely going to go for because we need more fun and ta-da another casual, very doable on A daily basis, edwardian hairstyle, my bangs - are popping out. Aren'T they? Oh man seriously? Don'T don't do this with bangs, just it's not worth it now. There is one more style that i really want to do, but i need hair extensions for that one, because my hair is simply too short and that is the coco chanel braid. I'Ve been wanting to recreate that one in a video for a long time now, but i still haven't fully figured out the secret behind that hairstyle. But we're gon na attempt it casually today. But i need to once again put in some hair extensions first, because we need two fairly long, braids or actually, ideally just one. But i did try this before with hair extensions. Even and i still can't get a braid that's long enough to fully wrap around my head once if your hair is long enough to fully wrap around your head, then you can use your own hair. Congratulations. Your hair is probably amazing and incredible. Looking please hold while i install these, i am keeping the poofy front bits by the way i might have to redo them, but we definitely need those, because there is a lot of volume involved in this hairstyle, which is part of its magic and part of the Part that i haven't been able to fully figure out yet so it's not going to be an exact recreation today, we're going to try and capture the feeling, at least so. I have split my hair down the center without making a parting so that the back looks like this and it's not just because i'm wearing hair extensions, but you don't often see visible partings in historical hairstyles like these. So if you've seen my milkmaid braids without a parting video, we're basically going to do that with a bit more air around the top. So i am separating one of the sides into three strands and before i start braiding, i'm actually going to pull it to the other side, pull it across. Let'S actually redo that all right. So when i have my braid, i'm gon na do the same thing with the other side, so i'm just gon na pull that hair across. So i have my two braids now, but we still need to make these a bit more dashing. I am going to fluff them up by simply tugging at the sides, wriggling them a bit to pancake them out a bit and make them flat and wide. So that's what we need for these. It'S going to become harder to do as you come closer to the end, so don't worry about that too much we're going to be hiding the ends anyway. To make sure the top of the braid is nice and fluffy. When i have both my braids, i am simply going to pull them up cross them over wherever it is that they cross over and, as i mentioned, tuck the ends away beneath the other braid. You can do that both sides and you've - probably guessed it we're gon na secure this with. However many bobby pins, we need to make this secure. Oh the bags, alright, once you've done that you should end up with something that looks a little like this again. Super pretty super easy to do doesn't take a lot of time at all and very beautiful results. Here we go something inspired by the coco chanel braid. I will keep working on the actual coconut braid and hopefully bring that to you one day, but for now i think this is a very nice alternative, so that is the last hairstyle that i wanted to share with you today. I really hope you enjoyed it. Maybe you found it helpful if you would like to wear your hair, more edwardian style in daily life, but don't have an hour to spend on your hair every morning, which i can very well imagine, because neither do i if you did enjoy this video, don't forget To give it a thumbs up, subscribe to my channel for lots, more beauty, lifestyle sewing and fashion videos, if you would like to support me through patreon or my merch store their links in the description below. Thank you so much for your support. There is another video here that i think you might also enjoy can go watch next. Thank you so much for watching, and i will see you very soon in my next video bye

elfenscheisse: Edwardian Hair seems to be made for me and everyone elso who rolls out of bed looking like hagrid and is the proof that you can look undone and elegant at the same time. deal with that, late 90ies and 21th century sleek hairstyles-people!!

AJ: okay but your hair at the beginning before styling was also a very pretty look!!

Brittany Bishop: The universe has heard my pondering. Went to sleep last night thinking about ways to do easy everyday Edwardian hairstyles. Then, I wake up to this! Thank you Lucy!!!

mcwjes: Yes. Of course. Nobody has hair they peeled from their brush or braids from their last haircut in a ziploc bag on the dresser. That'd be odd. I, a normal person, couldn't imagine doing that.

cittavidya: i love how natural you are. how you don't care that you're in the internet and your hair looks crazy, you even make jokes about it. thank you for being authentic in this plastic world.

Unruly Crow: Regarding pins and having a lasting hairstyle, I never use elastics and make everything hold together by knowing how to weave the pins in the bun (as a bonus, practicing it makes one more adept at hiding the pins) _and_ by working with textured hair thanks to hair oil and powder (because I wash my hair once a week and powder it mid-week to keep it nice and tidy). I can run with my hairdo and it won't move a millimeter because it's well-secured thanks to these two factors.

Samazing: I love this idea! I need a simple style! For my Anne of Green Gables looks!

Lara Book: I really love that first voluminous half up style <3 Always reminds me of the Romanov sisters!

Gabriel Hanssens: bangs were still worn in the edwardian era the tended to be shorter and weren't as popular as in the previous decade but my great-great-grandmother wore micro bangs on the side of her head and i've seen quite a few pictures of the era where women wore very frizzy face framing pieces

Katherine Morelle: This is so helpful! I love Edwardian styles, but though my hair is long-ish (waist length, about halfway to where I’d ideally like it to be), it’s super, super fine! And it’s also curly, which makes it harder, actually. Because getting those big bits of fluff at the front- it doesn’t work as well because my hair goes everywhere, but because it’s so fine, it leaves big gaps. I think the dry shampoo and teasing trick will work. I think I’ll also buy a bunch of hair donuts, cut them, and sew them together to make one really big hair rat. I tried with a stocking, but it’s too light a colour, which means it shows through my fine hair.

corinrae: "I am assuming most of us don't have piles of our own shedded hair lying around somewhere in the house." Me, having to unclog my vacuum cleaner and shower drains weekly:

Uru: The moment you said Coco Chanel I knew what picture you would be using as reference, I have drawn that portrait in my sketchbook, its so beautiful

Robin Hahn: The mad-professor look is a LOOK all unto itself! ✨✨✨I live for it!

Ida Marie Christensen: I've needed this so bad. I've thought about experimenting a bit more with Edwardian hairstyles as my hair is long and I love the era.... But it often looks a bit too extra and formal for everyday when I do an updo. So thank you!!

singergrrl77: I love your videos so much especially not only a relaxing calm demeanor but the fact that you have items that are relatable and that many of us would have at home. Many Youtubers seem to have to get so many different specialized props and purchases but a lot of us would have barrettes hair bows curling iron‘s and different things like that already at home so that we can easily create this looks and you make it very simple to follow and Your instructions are simple and clear thank you I have enjoyed watching so so many of your videos

Elentarien: Love this. I used to LOVE looking at the hairstyles (and clothes) from this era. The whole 'Gibson girl' look was fascinating to me. Unfortunately, I never ever had the hair for it, but now days, with the addition of hair extensions and pieces, I probably could have. Maybe one of these days, as I get more into historybounding, I'll invest in some decent wigs that I can do stuff like this to. (My own hair I gave up on. Due to thyroid issues, I think, it's SUPER fine and I lose so much of it, there's not a ton there. So I ended up chopping it rather short. It was better than long and thin. :P But wigs. . .could give it back. Sorta. Kinda. Ok, not really, but it's better than nothing. lol)

UniversalDrift: Your hair tutorials gave me enough FOMO that I'm now growing out my pixie. It's been more than a year of growth, but it's not even past my ear because of curly shrinkage.

Kimberley Rees: Always love your historical hair videos, so naturally I love this one too. I'm going to try a couple of these this week.

Isabella Pattinson: Amazing hairstyle!!! They all look fabulous.

JoLee Stephens: In this video you look like Lucy in Room With a View, and in your 18th century hair video, you gave me Bellatrix Lestrange vibes, so, in the end, I decided you must just look like Helena Bonham Carter!

Emily Mary: LOVE THIS! Thank you so much. I have very, very long hair and I've been watching your videos for a long time, but I wanted something easy to do for work that had an Edwardian look. This was so helpful, thank you!!

Gabriela Maria: I will try to do this. Beautiful ❤

lauren neal: Your hair looks so healthy and full! (Before extensions)

Pamira Nashim Khanjada: Hi!! Lucy !! I love all the hairstyles. It's perfect, and beautiful. You're looking awesome.

Renee Head: Yes I love these hairstyles, especially during the springtime thanks for sharing!

Anouk: I loved the hairstyles! So airy and effortless looking. And the aesthetics in this video are so nice and well tought. Flowers, the blouse, even the soft yellow light. The only thing i would change would be the "visibility" of your hair. I know how hard it is to show hairstyles with dark hair but i can hardly see the braids in the last milkmaid style.

Mibelle: I love your tutorials so much because my hair type is very similar to yours if not the same, and it gives me the confidence in knowing that it still will look beautiful even though I don't have that *thicc* hair. love you!

Victoria Smith: I love these beautiful and elegant hairstyles. Great job.

Dee Dee: I really love the edwardian era your hair is so pretty :3

Renee Head: Yes I love these hairstyles, especially during the springtime

Helena Hanbasquet: Thank you for this. My 10 year old daughter has to dress like Willa Cather for school. There are so many pictures of the front of these styles, but finding good pictures of the back has been hard. My daughter does have long enough hair to wrap around her head. I wish the Coco Chanel look was something the author had worn! I'm super excited to see what we can get done for her performance.

ParisTexas: Seeing you with the extentions I have an idea for a famous person inspired video. I've just listened to a podcast about Mathilde Willink and that would be an awesome style to recreate. It is veeeeery out there and over the top of course, but wild.and fun These hairstyles look nice!

thecatounette: Vidéo très inspirante ! La technique du "prends tes cheveux et fais un truc derrière" j'adore ! Je trouve ça casual chic et ce n'est identique tous les jours

Onna Lynn: I wish I could give ALL of your Historical videos 1,000 Likes. Cause I LOVE THEM!

Alexandria McGhie: will you do history bounding for other eras of hairstyles? This was a really fun video!

Alysane Blackwood: When you watch an Edwardian hairstyle tutorial and realise you've been doing half those styles since you were a teen.

Olivia Okerlund: I’m doing music man for my Highschool play and I am in charge of hair and makeup. I am so excited to share this video with them so they can try themselves and see which hairstyle they want!

Beky TG: I have hair rats made out of my own hair. Everytime I went to the hairdresser, the hairdresser was kind enough to gather it up and put in a plastic bag. It so makes a difference wearing hair rats, made out of one's hair.

Agi Magi: I love this, I need to try them all!

Hannah Ruth Walker: Loved it thank you for a wonderful video!!! Xxx

Rose Lewis: The ultimate mum bun. I would be all for it if my hair held any volume.

Sonia Alvarado: Enjoyed your tutorial and the background music. Your blouse is lovely. Thank you.

Sarah-Beth Bradley: This makes me wish I had longer hair!

say say: uh the flowers hairstyle .. I'm obsessed with it your channel is actually therapeutic

Lii Porta: I just love this ideas of hairstyles. Thank you :)

Keshia Vincent: I wear my hair like the first style nearly everyday. I didn't realize it was Edwardian.

Amy Rugg: Love these simple styles. And I'm not much of a modern trendy woman. I prefer older classic styles with romance. I have medium length super thick frizzy wavy hair so if I could just find one nice look is be happy lol. Where did you get your hair barette? I can find nothing like it!

Dan Hurl: *eyes the box of hair from my brush I’ve been saving

miss.madams: Love these thank you!

Isaac Iap: Edwardian hair and fashion came back in the 70s with a cottage twist

Laurie Galteland: Kudos for addressing the travails of the fine/thin/straight follicle bunch. Recent gastro surgeries did cost some temporary hair loss. So yes, did save shed follicles to make perfect match pump/ bump additions. Nylon net @ fabric stores or dissected bath scrubbies in compatible color shades can substitute for donuts.

CamelliaUkulele: the music in the background and your Edwardian hairstyles and blouse make this a relaxing video.

Stephanie Morey: What a pretty blouse!

Geneselli: Yay I love all your videos!! ^^"

Darcie: If you backcomb/tease your hair the 2 best ways to get the knots out is first, begin brushing your hair at the ends and slowly moving up the hair in small increments, never try to brush a knot out beginning at the root. Or second, if you put your fingers in at the root under the back combing and wiggle your fingers side to side until it comes loose.

Elena Castella: I LOVE these kind of videos

Hannah Miller: Your hair right before you did anything with it made me see heart eyes

LMCsquared Greendale: I am an individual who has a ziploc bag full of my hair. About 40 odd years ago I had long heavy hair and migraines. Since I was too young for the medications that the doctor could have prescribed he suggested that I cut off my long hair so that the "weight" did not trigger a migraine. My Mother was horrified because we had a ritual where she would brush my long hair and braid it and or put it up or a combination of both. When the hair dresser cut my hair my Mother saved it. (I forgot to add that he was wrong because I still had migraines with short hair.) and as I never grew my hair out beyond shoulder length, those styles were very important in the 80's and 90's, my Mother held on to it. As my hair began to gray she pulled the bag out of her "Hope" chest and gave it to me so my hairdresser could match my original color. Unfortunately my hair was a golden brown with red, copper and dark blonde highlights so we both colored and highlighted my hair. The cost to keep this up was outrageous, and my fine hair became so fragile that I simply colored it and a few years ago started to grow it out. Since I was home bound during the pandemic and I have a lot of hats I let it grow out and I am now experimenting with the new generation of Hennas. Once my hair was completely gray and getting longer, as is my friend's, we have decided once we get the base color we like we will start low light because you can't lighten hair with Henna. We are having a blast. I've even figured out how to lighten henna but I don't want to get into that here. So very long story to explain how some people do have bags of their own hair.

Av4l4rion: I just wore a braid around my head yesterday, but because my hair is Not long enough either, I dutchbraided it which made it a little more secure. After I opened it, i had eighties voluminous hair

Arabic woman named Sahar: ✨I love your channel.

Julia Shepherd: I have a picture of my great grandmother, which was taken around 1918. In that picture she has milkmaid braids, but with a twist it looks like. Because she has a big fluffy bow in the neap of her neck. So it looks like she has done a half updue with the braids and then put the rest of the hair back into a low pony tail with help of that big bow. And I can´t quite figure out how she has done it. xD

Alex B: Thinking of trying some of these since my hair is naturally big anyway, I won’t need to do any back combing!

A M: I think Rachel Maksy is rubbing off on you. I'm okay with this Thanks for the video! I love historically inspired fashion & beauty.

Cynthia Barker: The flowers to the side was so becoming and romantic.

Jessica James: Your glasses adds more beauty to the hairstyle

Joanne Vroon: ''don't do this when you have bangs'' oopss I have, but gonna try anyway! Thanks for another lovely video on hair methods!

Elizabeth West: You mention you have fine hair and you backcomb it a lot - thus you get many tangles. I have learned that a olive oil applied to the tangles as you begin to wash your hair, slips those tangles out. Then shampoo and condition as normal, and it combs out like a dream.

Holly Brewer: You look like helena bonham carter in a room with a view in this video! So so beautiful!

Onna Lynn: Is it odd if I wear Edwardian and other Historical hair frequently...like...mostly...‍♀️ I just...prefer the look of it... Their lovely and I feel more ME and like I am living a tiny part of my fantasies.

avery M: So gorgeous

Whitney Dahlin: Loved this! Thank you! Can someone link the Edwardian hair pinterest picture

Tulip bed rose: Your way of speaking damn cute .. and you are really looking preety ... Lots of love from India

Heaven Phillips: I always do loose hairstyles too. My buns are always loose. And I have naturally curly hair but tons of spirals

HeyCuteEarrings: Love this

Britneyzz Shadow: Beautiful! Could you please bring back beauty becans?

Jenny Nobody: Your Historical Edwardian hair tutorials are the best!

Call Me a Cab: I have to do one hairstyles for a low budget short film I will be in I am so greatful for this video!!!

Gabriela Quintanilla: #3 es identico al peinado de Evelyn en la Momia 1998

Tamara Morton: Oh my gosh!! Your hair is so thick now! How did you do it? It’s been a little bit since I’ve watched one of your videos but still...

barcalonga: "hair rat" - I love it! Maybe when I brush my collie!

Erika Findus: this is the moment i regret my year 8 decision of getting an undercut and then bleaching it

Priscila Pereyra: I liked so much for winter were the hair has own life

I D: Very nice

Selkie Morien: At this point I could probably make a small rat with my collection of hair XD But since I'm thinking about felting it somewhat for sturdiness, I'll have to wait longer still...

Makeda: I do like cute hairstyles but I stay in my corner with my VERY at shoulder-length hair waiting watching past shoulder and other long hairstyles be made. One day.

Vana: Regarding the last hairstyle, maybe u could try combining the hair of the first braid with the second when you reach the back of your head.

Samantha Jackson: My floor length hair screeched at the back-combing, but I guess I have enough hair to push up for volume, so, none of that! Lol at ‘A Bobby pin to hold it in place...’ where is my super grip!?

Onna Lynn: PS. I have that SAME MIRROR! Its...Ikea...right? I think...idk but it's the same...got it at a Thrift store.

オセアニアのコテージ: you should try curtain bangs it works better with the widows peak/v hairline

Kitchen with Saira: Nice

Amy Latta PreK: "Most of you don't have piles of hair lying around" Me postpartum pulling out another hair rat from the drain: "...."

Ellinor van den Top: As someone with longer than waist length hair, "sticking in a couple of pins" while keeping it floofy will come down to half an hour of work and about forty pins.. does anyone have any tips for me? Because I absolutely adore all these

Laura Porto: should i comb my curly hair in the end?

Emiel Terzieff-Godefroy: omg this is godsent

melissa walker: Love ur video, it was fun. Do u know any Victorian hairstyles

Isha Chaudhary: You look gorgeous at this hairstyle .....bcoz u have curly hair ....and I have ..straight long hair

Daisy Cuevas: *Me finished watching pride and prejudice * *Gets notification for this video* How fitting.

Kristina Clough: What kind of hair extensions do you use? I've been trying to figure out what kind to get and I have no idea! Lol

Vania Raquel Flores: ♡

Md Tanvir: If i have a chance to meet with u..i would never miss it❤️
