First up, we have a longer short hair hairstyle very similar to the Bixie Hairstyle. This timeless style is perfect for those who want a longer current look that's still stylish and sophisticated. This cut is perfect for anyone who isn’t ready to go super short but still wants to accentuate their facial structure.

Next, we have a few hairstyles that are versions of longer pixie hairstyles. These styles are all about creating volume and texture in the right places, and are perfect for people who really want to lift their faces (like mini face lifts). They are the perfect mix of edgy and feminine.

For those who want a more dramatic look, we have an undercut pixie. This is probably my favorite of the short pixie hairstyles and is great for those who really want an edgy short hairstyle that can also be styled very polished and conservative.

Last on the list we have the short pixie. This is a low maintenance style that’s great for anyone with small bone structure. They have a ton of movement and texture and scream confidence.

Short hair hairstyles. Today we are talking bixies Pixies, giving short boy cuts back out of all of the short haircut Stacks, so I'm gon na break down my five favorite short hair hairstyles. Most importantly, I'm going to talk about who they're best for and if there's anything specific that you need to know about before you dive in them. Looking youthful and vibrant at any age at all is all about one big thing: when it comes to hair volume thing about short hair is you can actually cut the volume in by using layers, and so you can really use that volume to accentuate certain things about A client's face shape hence having a more youthful look now. Also in this video I'm going to be sharing a pro tip if you will on how to make any neckline a little bit more flattering on a short pair of hairstyle, as well as how you can actually get any short pair hairstyle to look more youthful short Hair hairstyle - that is a lot to say, with that, let's dive into the haircuts. Now I want to give a quick shout out and thank you to Lumi who sponsored this particular video, but we're gon na talk more about them in just a second. So with that off the table, let's dive into the first one, which is kind of a longer short haircut with a lot of movement and texture. This is going to be very similar to some of the pixies that people talk about. Okay, that's a cross between a pixie and a bob shape actually spoke about it in my most recent video, but before this you can learn all about that. If you want to check that video out now, one of the things I love about this particular shape is that it's a really good kind of in-between shape. If you will for someone who wants to dip their toe into this short hair pool but isn't quite ready to dive all in yet so this still leaves a lot of length and it still gives you kind of an easy grow up process. If you decide to move back, say to a bob shape or kind of any longer shape in general, this also does an incredible job of opening up the face, without opening up so much that you kind of feel Overexposed if you're not ready for short hair. Because of the extra length on the sides and around the top and the front around the bang area, you really kind of still have some of that feeling that you get or some of that kind of protection. If you will, from long hair but you're into a much more kind of short, hair, hairstyle and a lot of movement and texture has started to come into play because of that length, so who do these work best for these work great for pretty much any texture Of hair, where these shapes really shine is in a situation where you feel like you might have a longer face, and you want to add a little bit of width to it because of the longer overall internal layering aspect of this shape. You really have some more length that you can work with on the sides. Now you couple that with the fact that these shapes have a tendency to land somewhere in the chin area, very close to the chin, and that's going to compound that fullness. So you really can kind of offset the length pretty easily with these now. One thing that you want to know about these particular shapes is the length on top is still just long enough that it may be hard to get the amount of volume that you want to see in. So what they end up doing is cutting that top shorter and shorter and shorter, create more volume, but in reality, what they're doing is they're making this shape unbalanced and what you'll end up with is this little divot, like you see in this photo right here? It'S a situation where the top is too short for the length on the sides doesn't balance correctly and it ends up taking the volume away from where we actually want to have volume in this area, because having volume in that area helps to create the illusion of More of a lifted shape helps to accentuate cheekbone and facial structure better, and so you want to be shy of taking that top Too Short. Okay, number: two: this is a shape where we actually have it much tighter around the nape, with a little bit more length on the top and the sides - and I love this shape because it really does an incredible job from the profile really lifting that eye up. The back of the shape and towards the crown now this has a really good way of actually adding more emphasis to cheek bone structure and face structure and overall, just lifting your face up to begin with now. Another thing that I love about this shape is that taking the nape in tighter, like this, really actually allows for that top to even go a little bit shorter and still overall have a good balance. So if you are wanting the top to go shorter, this may be a good way of kind of meeting you in the middle there and allowing you to get a little bit of extra shortness on top and still having everything work. Well, so who do these work best for these work really well for anybody with a medium to fine texture of hair that want their hair to look more dense? Typically speaking, the closer you take your hair to the hairline in the back, the thicker it's going to appear and it's going to support any sort of layering in the back much better. The closer you take that now not to say that these don't work well with thick hair because they do work well with thick hair as well, because being able to take that nape really tight. Does a really good job of pulling some of that bulk. Out of the nape that has kind of a tendency to appear when you've got really thick, dense, hair now another person that this works really well for him is anyone that really wants to accentuate cheekbone structure, like I said before, because of where this volume sits. Just because of the way this layering is done, it automatically sits around that kind of cheek structure area and therefore lifts that eye and kind of draws more attention to cheekbone structure. So what do you need to know before you dive in this may feel like it grows out on one hand kind of quickly, and you find yourself in the salon more often than you want. You also want to pay very close attention if you're doing color with this now, specifically, if you're doing all over, highlights the reason for that is because, when you take care of this short in the nape area, it's very quick that your highlights will start to look Like cheetah spots, so one thing that you can do to a combat that is just color, the nape to your either natural color or to whatever color you're currently using as your base tone. That will alleviate any of that concern and it doesn't look weird or off, or anything like that. It'S kind of very natural anyway, that your hair is a little bit darker in the nape than it is on the rest of your head, so kind of just makes sense. Speaking of looking more youthful, one massive way that I talk about all the time on my channel is just simply being more confident if you're, not confident in the style that you have on your head, that style is going to wear you, you won't be wearing it. Now one thing that will rob your confidence: it actually well come with me. Okay now this is our bathroom, and that is Lumi, because one thing that does not build confidence is smelling, smelling bad that never wins uh. This is product that I actually use. I'Ve been using this deodorant for the past, probably six months now, and I love the way it makes me smell. I also love this deodorant because it's just a different scent because you never know when you want to smell a little bit different. You know, and if you know me you know, I go on a lot of hikes. One thing that does smell not so great when you do a lot of hiking uh is your feet, so this is perfect. You can rub this in like a lotion and it's a deodorant it controls odor for up to 72 hours, clinically proven does that actually yeah and I've found that it's true it works. But I love these because they're aluminum, free they're, skin, safe they're, pH balance, so you've legitimately can use them anywhere. Where can you use these use them anywhere? You know like, like underneath the movies with booty, keep it keep them from being stinky. If your body has like a smelly part, Lumi is the solution. Now the cool thing is they've got a starter pack, that's perfect for new customers comes with a solid Stick, deodorant a cream tube deodorant two free products of your choice like a mini body wash or deodorant wipes whatever, and it has free shipping and even more importantly, As a special offer to my followers, new customers get five dollars off of that starter pack, so just use code, Justin hickox23! You can use that with the link in the description below or just go ahead and scan the QR code on the screen right now. So do that right now, like you should do that it's solid stuff! I use it on purpose because I don't want to stick, don't don't stink, nobody wants to be stinky, nobody, nobody likes a stinky person and that's just you know, confidence smell, good confidence. Okay, number. Three is a short hair hairstyle, where you're actually leaving a little bit of extra softness in the nape area right around the neckline. In this scenario, you can have the top either be a little bit on the longer side or even on the shorter side. The sides can also be a little longer shorter side. This really speaks very specifically to the amount of softness in the nape, not so much the rest of the overall shape. One of the things I love about this is it gives us that little bit of softness and femininity to the overall shape number two that taking the nape. That short might have been a little bit too harsh for you, whereas this might make you feel a little bit more confident in having it. This short, I also think this does a really good job of bringing the eye and wrapping it around. The ear like you can see in this photo, which actually brings your attention kind of up towards the crown and anytime from the profile. We can bring attention up towards the crown we're going to end up accentuating more cheek structure, lifting the eye and, overall, just lifting the entire face. It'S kind of like a little mini profile facelift when we do that. So, who is this for this is for anybody like I said before, that is ready to go short and wanting to go short, but a little bit concerned about it, maybe feeling a little too harsh. This is going to add that softness that, more often than not does the trick. This also works really well for anybody that wants to accentuate their jawline, because we can leave a little bit of extra length that wraps around the ears. This does an incredible job at just kind of drawing that line or keeping that line. That goes for the jawline and up towards the back of the head, and this does a great job of accentuating that structure in the jaw. If you have a tendency to cut your hair short and find that it sticks straight up, this may be somewhat problematic for you to leave it this long now, what do you need to know about this shape if you have a hairline that grows into the center? This is going to be very hard for you to manage and in your situation it would be far better of an idea for you to either leave some extra length in the back or go into what we talked about in number two, which is quite a bit Shorter - and that actually brings me to a pro tip promised you a pro tip well here is one for making any neckline look a little bit better. If you look at most necklines, what you'll find is they actually have kind of an m shape to them? I actually say follow that neckline a little bit so, instead of leaving it straight across in the back kind of Follow that little bit of of an M now from the profile, this actually elongates the neck a bit as well as it tends to grow out much Better because if you leave it too long in the back, if you leave the length too long, it can tend to look kind of scraggly and piecy okay number four, and this one is where it's super short on the sides. In the back with quite a bit more length on the top - and if I'm honest, this is one of my favorites of this entire video, yes, and it's probably some of your least favorites. So let me break down why I love this okay, so I have two main reasons that I absolutely think that this shape is one of the best. One is because this screams confidence like you, cannot wear this and not be confident. I know that in society today, a lot of people kind of deem any short hair over the age of 40, as just the old lady cut, which don't get me started on, I think that's stupid and ridiculous, but I think it's going to be a very far-fetched Assumption to take someone with a haircut like this, it's styled like this and label that as an old lady cut. Now you may be looking at this and saying yeah, but this is really dramatic, like that's, not a day-to-day style, which kind of brings me to the number two thing that I love about. Him is they're, versatile, just because you wear it up and crazy, and back like this, that doesn't mean that that's how you have to wear it. Maybe you want a more tamed down version of this or maybe a little bit more of a polished, slightly conservative Edge to this. You can easily wear this down and get a very polished look, so it really does have a lot of Versatility so who do these work great for if you've got a medium to thicker density of hair? These are going to work phenomenal, but one thing you do want to be aware of is, if you do have thick hair you're really going to want to texturize the layers on top to really break up some of that bulk, so that you can get your hair To stay back up and off of your face and have more versatility with the shape, these also work really well for anybody with a fuller or round face because of the amount of volume on top and the lack of volume on the sides. You'Re immediately elongating your face structure more and so that functions really well. So what you need to know the whole point of this overall shape is to have the sides dramatically shorter than the top they're, almost kind of not supposed to connect or balance. That'S kind of what sells this look now. The concern with that is that this could end up growing out kind of odd, because we're not really tapering the sides down we're just taking it really short. They might kind of grow out and get full and kind of bulky and just not really hold their shape very well relatively quickly, and therefore they may require a little bit more of a maintenance with how often you go to the salon. Number five is the short short pixie now this is the one where I get to share my kind of secret to how you can actually get any short length to look more youthful and that'll, be explaining during my what you need to know portion of this particular Style, but what I love about these Styles is: this is another one of those Confidence Game hairstyles. This is a situation where you've got to have a certain level of confidence to go this short and really rock it. Another thing I love is that these styles are really built on texture and movement and therefore they're really built on the idea of not looking perfect. You actually want them to have a little bit more of a organized mess so who do these work great for? Well? If you're, smaller in stature, like myself or you've, got smaller bone structure, smaller facial features, this works really well, because it's not an overpowering length. These also work really well if you've got medium to finer, hair, texture or even thin, hair, especially on thin hair. The shorter you take your hair more often, not the denser and thicker. It'S going to look, obviously that is to in a specific extent, if you shave your head, it's going to look bald okay. So what do you need to know about these Cuts? Well, this is where I'm going to share my kind of key to how you can make any of these lengths look more youthful and vibrant back decades ago. Shampoo sets were extremely important and these styles were very contrived and very stiff, and they were stiff because they had to be for them to be able to last long enough for the client to come back in in. However, many days they were going to be coming back in now these particular Styles kind of got phased out, and they were left behind with the folks that felt more comfortable in them, which ended up being an older demographic as time went on. The problem with this is that lack of movement and structure that whole feeling kind of became synonymous with the idea of this old Laden cut. Now, to kind of give you a visual reference of this. If you look at this photo right here, you'll see that, while the shape is good right, the volume is where it should be. There'S still a lot of texture in with the overall style every little curl from that curling iron is exactly the same, and so it looks kind of very stiff versus. If you look at this photo, you can see that there's still a lot of movement and texture. It'S still the same length, the shape is still very strong and volumes or we want to have volume, but the movement and texture is not as contrived and therefore it tends to have a more youthful and kind of vibrant overall feel. That is what you take into any short hairstyle that you're talking about. That is my tip and trick. So now you know all of the things. So yes, all of the things, but you know I'm curious. What do you think am I wrong on all this stuff? Is there one of these shapes that you love the most? If there is comment below, let me know and do not forget as a special offer for my followers. New customers get five dollars off of Lumi starter pack that you can use with the link in the description or just go ahead and scan the QR code on the screen right now. Thank you so much. Barb6106: Oh wow… this came at such a funny time! I’ve had short hair, sometimes extremely short hair, for many years. While on lockdown and all the Covid happening I grew my hair out to almost shoulder length. (It is white -I’m 75- and texture is fine).. this looked ok snd I got compliments on my color mostly.. but one day I saw a reflection and thought “Omg I’m one of the Golden girls!!! Lol.. “. I looked old and dated. I’ve always loved an edgy cut and look..I’m very thin, worked in cosmetics and tend to wear black, I never go out without makeup/jewelry and it’s all about drama….sooo! Off came the hair! I left the sides a bit less tight (I used to shave the sides and nape—this time it is about an inch scissor cut-overall layers-very choppy-top a TINY bit longer. I spike it up on top and it feels like me..(long face and all! ..but the upward movement of the hair helps lift my face and take away from the fullness around the slight jowl I have. I was recently shopping with my granddaughter, and a woman came up to me. She said she was a hairdresser and just wanted to say how she thought my look was so exceptional. I feel like me! Yes, I know short hair is not for everyone… but it is nice to stand out a bit. I think the versatility is amazing..I wish more stylists would show more ideas like this. Thank you for taking on the subject.

Fiber MeeMaw: I'm 60 and wear a cut similar to #4, platinum and sides shaved close. Currently, am ready for a change and am keeping the shaved sides, platinum color, and doing a grow out just for fun. You are so right about having confidence in one's hairstyle and look. Being older I am not as concerned with the criticisms of others as when younger either. Live with joy and appreciate the compliments when they come! Keep up the wonderful work you are doing!

Deborah Darling: I'm so excited to see myself (as one of your favourites, #4 no less!) in this great video. What an honour! I am going to send this to all of my haters who just don't get it, and feel that I should have a haircut "more appropriate for my age". Thank you!

Michael Rudzik: Thank you for addressing short hair. I have thick hair so my Bob often looked like a wig. Tossed caution to the wind and cut a longer pixie. I am 75 and it lifted my face and gave me a modern youthful look. Needed this information.

Tracy AF: I’ve always loved short hair. I had my first pixie cut at 8 much to my mother’s chagrin. I grow it to the shoulders then chop it off over and over. I love your examples.

KKO: I loved the last thing you said about a more natural, messy look vs a stiff, contrived look is more youthful. Back in the day, I used Loreal Elnett like it was going out of style! Now its just texture spray and out the door. Thanks for all you do Justin-- Cant wait for you collab with Glam Girl Gabi

Glam Girl Gabi: I loved everything about this video Justin. I absolutely LOVE the first haircut. I want to cut my hair like this but I am not ready for it just yet. You are so right about confidence. As you know, I got this large tattoo that is completely freaking me out and whenever I wear it with tons of confidence, I get all these compliments and when I am worried or anxious about it, you can sense how uncomfortable I am in my skin and no one says anything about it. You can sell anything if you are confident about it. It's a very attractive feature in any person. Thanks for this great video!

Terry: Very timely video, Justin! I just cut off my layered (short) bob. It was never "me". I love short hair and my silver and steel natural color looks great. Nice selection of hair styles in the video. I'll keep them in mind for my next trim.

Andra: I love #4 as well! It takes a confident woman to wear it and I'm always impressed by those who do! Thanks for the helpful tips and tricks. If and when I ever go short, I'll be sure to use them!

Kathryn Geen: I was so excited to hear about managing the hairline issue at the neckline in #3. I have a drastic M with a lot of hair growing down both sides of my neck. This gave me some hope for a short haircut at long last!

bellellie98: Love these!!! As summer approaches in Florida and I'm thinking about getting the hair out of my hot, sweaty neck, this was a great guide! Thanks ❤️

Evon Trower: Thanks again for your great advise! My hairis much more fun, youthful and gives me confidence since I discovered (after decades of perms) that I have some natural curl and the more choppy, layered, textured it is THE BETTER! Love the messy look and at 80 years old, I still get second looks. It is great for my ego!

Liza Buckingham: Justin has such good videos and I appreciate the expertise and knowledge he brings to share with us. I would love to have long hair now, but my hair is thin and fine. As it grows, it absolutely looks scraggly. Short hair on me is definitely harder to manage, but I can. I also have naturally soft-curly hair. I just know that every day is an adventure with my hair! And, I don't wash my hair every day...too drying for me. Thank you, Justin for a video on shorter hair!

nina hall: First, thank you for the salon recommendations!! You saved me! I'm seeing a lot of shorter styles now that all the damage we (I) did over the pandemic is growing out. Man, did I hurt my beautiful locks Seriously JH, I love your insight and the way you explain why certain styles look better than others.

Lene Skov: I actually have the short pixie #5 - by accident. I used to have longer hair but one day I decided to cut it myself I was bad, really bad. So the only way the hairstylist could make a decent hairstyle out of my mess was to give me a short pixie And it looked great - have had it now for 5 years.

Linda Curtis: Thanks for doing this! I love 4 and 5. My hair is very short, maybe I’ll grow the top a bit longer! It is easier to feel confident when your hair is right, that’s for sure. You also answered some questions I had about keeping the sides short and the top longer, I was thinking it had to blend, turns out I was wrong.

Fruzsina Iaconis: I'm loving the short hair with the long sticky-uppy top section as well. Also, I totally see your point about the equally curled pieces looking stiff and outdated (my words, not yours ). It's trendier and cooler to get a more choppy cut that gives more movement and allows to be styled in different ways.

Joann Johnstone: Great informative video, Justin! I'm older (71) and I don't plan cut my hair short, but I really appreciate how you explain the details of the styles you present. Your video about bob styles is also excellent.

Sara Ruggli: Thanks to your videos I became aware that I am a short hair person. I was so bored by my long hair. So last spring I got my pixie and I couldn’t be happier. I love my short sides and longer top that I like to style upwards. And this style is absolutely perfect for my natural silver hair.

Pirjo Kujansuu: All of these short hairstyles are great! For me, numbers one thru three would work best. Number three is my favorite of the three. Excellent point about not putting highlights on the hair at the nape of the neck. Question for you Justin, what causes professionally applied blonde/dark blonde highlights to turn red after washing?

Karen Artis: I had the 2nd cut and it was better than a facelift! I love short hair on women. Longer and the top and sides keeps it modern and not matronly.

backyardstudioproductions: I have short hair, and I have done just about all of these styles. As I get older, it does look more like old lady hair. I would love a video on the techniques and products to get it to look less styled and have more movement. I love your videos!

Laureen Kummer: I love short hair but curly girls struggle with it. I’d love to see any videos dedicated to wavy/curly medium length hair. I just moved to a new state and had the worst haircut ever! I need you Justin

Janice Millican: I was so excited to click on this video. I have been tempted to go short for a long time.....I had a pixie several years ago,and loved it. However, I'm a bit self conscious about my neck It's not awful, just not what it was. Thank you for your hard work.

Lisa: Thank you for doing this video. Very helpful. You are so skilled at identifying how a specific haircut affects facial structure, youthfulness, ease of maintenance, and the overall feel. I love how detailed your assessments are. I always see it, but never would have on my own.

Mary McKay: I like number 2 the best. As a long haired girl myself that’s how I’m most comfortable. But a cute short cut that goes with the person’s features is always pretty. I’ve even seen older women rock a splash of bright color like pink in the short hair.

Marlene Yokel: Thank you for this video! I have fine/thinning hair and have been trying to figure out how to have it cut in a way that is attractive, but does not look like an "old lady" haircut (which I hate). Thank you for these great choices. I use Lume too!

Dorina Tudisco: Loved this video! It has inspired me to want to try a short hairstyle especially option 1. These styles you shared are really nice. Thanks for including what style works for a long face shape.

LisaB: I've had short hair, from just below my chin to buzzed at the back, since I was around 30. I'm 53 now and have the middle-aged spread and it's very obvious in my face. I'm glad there is a style that will work with a rounder, chubbier face that can also be dramatic!

Theresa Shay: I actually LOVE everyone of these cuts! I was told a long time ago that I should never have short hair because I'm so short (I'm not small in stature IM SHORT!!! Lol) I'm only 4ft tall and she said that it would cut off the eye, or somethin like that. Like I told her though, a hair length ain't gonna help your girl out at 4 ft!! What I like the thought of is just opening up my fave a bit, so I look more alive, and awake! I wish I knew how to do that, without cutting my hair. By the way, I love your video's! I know that you do a lot of hard work to bring us these videos every single week! And I just wanna say thank you for all you do for us!

Judy Andersen: I love you Justin! I have commented in the past and you never cease to amaze me! Your tips and suggestions in my mind, are spot on and I’m not a hair dresser! I’m 75 and have never had long hair, very fine and I have a kinda long face, the longest is maybe touching my shoulders. I have always felt that a person should feel good and love how they look, not just because it’s in style but because, like you say, the confidence they carry. They love how they look and can carry the look. I have struggled over the years to tell whatever hair dresser I have gone to the style and look I would like…once in awhile I will get someone who gets it close. Now at my age and retired it’s been a challenge for sure to get the look I feel good in…after watching your last video I went to my salon and presented a picture of what I wanted and she did pretty good however I think the color could be better especially in the back. My whole point is you should be cloned! my next visit I will share my thoughts, wig her, nicely! I am young at heart, I feel no where like 75…it’s just so important for an older woman to look the best they can, without surgeries and high maintenance. I am wealthy in my spirit and energy for life and when I look good I feel exceptional! You give me motivation to not give up on that quest to look as good as I feel! Thank you so much for your video’s! Judy

Dawn Liphard: I actually love all of these styles. And at points in my early life, I have probably worn a few of them. However, once my hair was my choice, I've left it long, and some would say too long. Shoulder length is the absolute shortest I have gone in close to 25 years.... man am I in a rut

Debbie Hough: I love #4 too. I used to wear my hair like that. As I aged, my chin and my neck became a "thing" and now it stands out. So I grew my hair out to disguise my neck, or at least hide it when people are sitting next to me. I have an A-line cut, but because my hair is so wavy (I also have very course hair) (strong hair) it wants to do it's own thing. I've tried the #1, and my hair did not look good at all. I had no reasonable shape! So I still have layers but they're long and the angle of my bob is acute. I have an undercut to help the hair on top lay better and have it "stacked" out short in the back, and the front and sides come down just below my jawline. I miss the short, but have lost my confidence to wear it.

Susan Henley: #3 works well for "Anyone who wants to accentuate a strong lawline" So,... what would you suggest for those of us who have a puny jawline? These styles you showed are adorable, however I have an underdeveloped lower jaw that I most certainly don't want to accentuate.

kim: I love your videos, always so helpful. I'm going to be 60 this year yikes! Lol I have always worn my hair short and spikey. I think I was one of the first ones were I live to do that. The hairstyles who first cut my hair like that was also a photographer who asked me to do pictures for him that hung in his studio. As I've gotten older and wanting a change I've tried to grow it out some always failing lol. I have straight fine hair and a lot of hair. I've been trying to grow it for awhile now and find it so much work and a lot of product being used to hold the style all day. Seeing this video is making me want to go back to my short pixie I've actually had it cut like the last one. Now I'm trying to decide after watching this video, back to pixie or keep going. I do have the side short and tapered to my neck , but just seems like a lot of hair on my head every where else. I don't want that old lady do, I want to be the cool grandma lol. what to do lol

selective outrage: I've been curious about the Bixie and this video confirmed that I have the hair texture and face shape so that it would flatter me. Interesting about how subtle changes, e.g., longer nape could make a difference. I have a curling iron, a flat iron and a hot air brush. Which is best to use for a bixie and how? I'm all thumbs!

Barb Witkowski: I've been a short-haired woman most of my adult life. My hair is curly enough in my bangs and over my ears to drive me crazy in humidity, so I like my ears cut out. Every few years I get the bright idea to let my hair grow into a bob shape. Then the humidity sets in and whack--off goes the hair! It is now white, and I'm thinking I'll go a little shorter for summer. I currently have a short nape, cut-out ears, and longer bangs. Maybe I should just wear the bangs shorter in the heat instead of fighting to keep them straight! Love your videos. Thanks for addressing us short-haired girls!

Teresa Sanner-Fecto: I love my short hair but I'm not sure it fits into one of those categories. People always think I'm younger than my 57 years... is it the hair...I'm not sure... but I'm keeping it short and sassy! Thanks for the great tips!

Judith Connor: Best video ever! I actually showed #3 to my former hairdresser, who told me that I couldn’t wear my hair that way. Not sure why as I used to wear it like this and loved it. I live in regional Australia and stylists here just don’t seem to be au fait with short hair.

Barb Robbins: I love when short hair has movement to it. With my curly hair, it’s difficult to get movement if it’s too short, though.

Linda Lindsay: I really like all of these. I have mostly had short hair for years - but I can’t make my hair do any of these styles! It has a mind of its own - plus grows VERY slowly - about 1/3” a month. So if I don’t like it I’m stuck with it for a long time. I also have 5-6 cowlicks! Would love to be able to do one of these styles!

Jekku: OK, you're making me contemplate my grown out Covid hair. My hair was pixie short for _decades,_ but working from home during Covid, not seeing anyone or going anywhere, I just grew it out. It's now well past my shoulders, all one length, and making me nuts. On top of that, it's very thin/fine, and I have a fuller face, so it's extremely difficult to figure out where to go from here. I'm about to "wig it." And finding someone who actually KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE DOING is extremely difficult. I have found that most "salonists" are just plain "hair cutters," they're not _STYLISTS,_ who can look at hair texture, face shape, skin tone, etc. and give the perfect cut. I've had to re-do botched cuts numerous times. Do you have any advice?

MM G: So helpful as usual. Thank you for your content!

Christine Stefanovski: Love your channel...my sister has 1 of these styles..looks great on her as I always think these styles suit a small head, longer face. What I do like is the texture and movement in these styles... I've always had longer hair but once in my 63 years I had it cut short ..having a larger head, it looked like a small watermelon with a wig.. I promised myself never again.. Just my opinion..my experience. My style is similar to your wives..I love it..

Julie Petersen: I have worn short hair for most of my life. From age 32-48, I had that super short pixie at the end… basically the Halle Berry style of yesteryear!Strange thing though: I hit 49 and started to hate the way I looked in hair that short! As I aged I was looking more and more like my elderly mother… my son even said I looked like grandma junior!Ever since then I’ve stuck to bob-ish styles. So, I don’t know if the short hair objectively aged me, or if I was just hung up on looking more and more like my mom!‍♀️I DO love the first several longish cuts you discussed! I would try those!

Heather Palermo: I haven’t worked up the courage (confidence) to rock a short hairstyle but I always perceive those who have as “cool”. No shade toward those with long hair (which is the camp I’m in currently), just saying… that said, I don’t feel I have the bone structure (and I have one-sided facial weakness from a brain tumor surgery) for the shortest styles. I can almost picture myself in some of the “longer” bixies, though. Thank you, Justin, for helping us rock whatever we choose - long, short, medium…wavy-curly (✋), blown out and curled, grey, colored, etc. with great tips to make us feel more confident!

Leslie Wallen: Love second look! Thanks for a great video!

Angi Catron: Well you’ve talked me into it, I’m cutting it off. I have been growing it out for a few years now and it’s almost always just pulled up into a ponytail, or if I do curl it it just falls out quickly. I have lots of fine hair, layers and textured regardless of product or none it just won’t hold long. I’m going close cut on the sides with length on top. In the past it’s always been my go to and I feel best in it. Thanks again for doing these videos I love them and always helpful ❤️

Jean Bean: Lume is awesome! Been using it since before covid. It's great for those of us who live in the South (USA) where it's hot and humid in the Summer.

B Schroer: Thank you so much for a short hair video! I absolutely love short hair!

Beverly Norris: I had number 5 for 15 years and I am going towards number 2 for a change. I can always cut it really short again. Enjoying the difference.

Gina Schiavone: Love this video. Shape 4 was amazing. I wish I had the confidence to try it. Thank you for producing these videos.

Racheliza: I’m so pleased you did this video, thank you very much. I sadly don’t seem to suit long hair and currently have shoulder length but have been thinking about going short for a while now. I may now be a step closer. Some very cool women shown here .

Turra Gorman: Great information. I truly love short hair but everytime I tried it on me, I just didn't like it and missed my lob. I changed things up recently with curtain bangs and enjoy the change without much commitment. I do want to try shorter but I am 5'8 and athletic with high cheekbones, so I know I have to select wisely.

Linda C: Thank you so much.. your advice is spot-on ❤️

Linda Marocco: Hey my guy!!!!…great to see you!!!…love this video!!!…so much information packed in!…#4 is definitely my fave!…but, I bet you already knew that!…not ready to cut my hair yet, I am in the growing longer phase, but, this gives fantastic ideas if and when I am ever ready!!!…thank you so much, Justin!…much love and appreciation!!..please say hi to Dionna from her east coast Mama!!!

Pam Abbey: I love your videos. I love ❤️ my hair past my shoulder, but it takes sooo much time. I have fine hair, so when I put it up, a La PAMELA ANDERSON, people compliment me. This adds to my volume, and seems to make me look much better. It accents my cheekbones and good jaw line. Without the long hair, I could not do it. Also, I do not have to go back and keep getting it cut. I am confident with this style. I save hours in my week, with a better look. That's a miracle.

Nancy Andersen: Not by choice I ended up with a pixie last summer. To me there is a difference between short and pixie. Have been trying to grow it out ever since. I want it back to chin length. Thought we were finally on the right track. Last time I went in for a bit of tidying up I asked her about some feathery layers around the face like you were talking about to hide the choppiness of layers growing out. Instead she texturized it to death which is bad news for fine hair. Now I am struggling to style it so it looks good and stays. Afraid to go back in for fear I will end up with a pixie like cut again and will be starting all over again. Hate pixies as they make me feel bald and I can't do a thing with them! So frustrated at this point.

Vicki Cobb: I never looked good in long hair. Thankfully I love your favorite short too! Chic and modern.

Pat B: I love your channel! However I think we should get used to saying how to look good for your age, not how to look younger. It almost seems like we should all be striving to look 10 years younger when truly most people do look their age. It puts a lot of pressure on middle aged woman. I do enjoy your videos and am impressed with your skills!❤️

paula copley: Reading comments and they mentioned no 4...then it came up...stunning! Love the funky look..just wish i had the confidence and the looks

Lilac Bazzi: I'm 62, petite 5 foot 2 inches in height and weighs 110 lbs. I've had a pixie cut since I turned 50. When I first cut it to a pixie, I had friends say it's too much of an old lady hairstyle. I don't listen to them. My opinion is what matters. I feel it suits my edgy personality and I love it! Thank you for the video Justin!

SuperGran: These are great. I have embraced my curly (almost ringlet-y) hair and would love suggestions.

Yanya McReynolds: Your videos are a huge help! I had hair down to my bra strap and knew it wasn’t thick enough to carry it off plus I always had it up in a clip. Went to get it all cut off but even though I wanted short and choppy it was just uneven and after 4 weeks I’m looking for a stylist that can give me the short cut that looks sassy and modern. Your videos help me to explain what I’m looking for with my fine hair and cow lick in the back.

Diane Rhea: Love your channel and short hair tips on how to get more volume. I live in a very small town and find it difficult to have a hairdresser that doesn't;t just do the same ole thing.

Caroline Irvin: I love the edgy styles! Kind of my personality!

Tiffany Bailie: I have considered short hair and love this video. Turning 45 this month nervous about taking that leap to the "old lady" hairstyle. Which style works best with a round face?

Margaret Hollins: Hi Justin, I have a question. I love short hair and have done a pixie style and really loved it BUT my hair has always grown very quickly (and I am in the 50+ age group now and have been for a few years) and the maintenance is annoying as to keep it nice I would need to have an appointment every other week - I currently have a 4 week appointment at the salon. My hair is currently growing out a layers in the back and my face is more round these days. Any suggestion?? Thanks. Margaret from Western Australia.

Tamara Pace: I used to wear a Dorothy Hamill, with my very thick and very coarse hair, when I was in 5 &6 grade, loved it! After having a baby I went from long Farrah Fawcett layers to up and over the ears, into a high and tight pixie on the nape, loved it, but grew it out again after about 5 years. When covid hit I again was very long and layered and, surprisingly, very much wavy. I got covid and telegen effluvium and lost about 2/3 of my hair. I reluctantly had to keep cutting shorter and shorter to keep a denser line at the bottom. When my hair stopped shedding (5 long months of scary hairloss!) it came back in even more coarse, dense and CURLY. Not wavy. Curly, as in ringlets, everywhere! I was happy to have a pixie to grow out. As my hair got healthier and more dense it was cut into a form of a Bixby, collar length and layered. It was so easy to style when I was transitioning from short short to about chin length. Now my curls have taken over and I have enough hair (down to my collarbone and volume for 2 of me. I am stuck. Do I keep growing it out and just hang in there and wait for the next lenght/shape or get it cut purposely into a shorter style. The curls really threw a monkey wrench in my plans. I do really really love my curls but I do wish I could find a curl specialist close by to help. This video really got me to thinking and I'm grateful for your input.

Cathy Norris: I have thought about cutting my shoulder length hair but am not sure how my 2c curl would work with a shorter style. Any suggestions I can check out to see what that might look like?

Andrea Shink, CDRE: so great. thanks for the fun breakdown, Justin!

mimzy c: I’ve had pixies, wedge style, bobs and long hair. Short hair is not any easier than any other style, mostly because you have to get it trimmed so often. I don’t plan on having short hair again until I can no longer brush and wash my longer hair. And I just don’t think it looks good on me. I prefer hair to frame my face. That being said, I really admire women that can wear short hair

Maggie Malone: You're 100% right on with this video!!!

Kendall Ansell: Just amazing! Your commentary is a Masterclass worthy lesson!

Tracey U: Number 4 is my favorite followed by number 5 however, I have fine hair/medium density, a low nape hairline and a long oval (balanced between the three quadrants) face with a sharp nose. Everything else on me is pretty moderate, eyes and cheeks, bone structure, build, muscle, height, weight. I do have a long vertical line visually. I look taller than my height of 5’8” but I’ve learned to dress in a way to make this happen. A longer length at the sides would probably be best for my shape however, in the next 5 to10 years, I may just embrace my longer face and go for a super short cut with some wildness to it. Attitude and gratitude are a girls best friends.

Kyle Robles: I love very short hair and I cut it by myself every month....makes me more confident and happier

Music Lover: Can’t do #2, 3, 4 or 5. Love them on others and I have tried them all in one shape or another. The back of my head is flat. No matter what product I use or if I back comb, it eventually falls and looks like a cliff resulting in a very unflattering profile. Mom must not have turned me when I was in the crib.

Daisy Rosario: Thanks Justin! The grey haired lady looked fantastic!

Liesl Forbes: As I’ve grown older, my hair has gotten more and more coarse to the point where I’m afraid to take it short again because I’m afraid it will become a frizz ball. I like the first style, and everyone keeps telling me I should cut my hair short again, but I can just see my thick, coarse hair going limp and frizzy at the first sign of any outdoor moisture. Any solutions?

Jan Abernathy: I'm a new follower so be patient with me if this is a topic you've already covered. I'm 71 and have very, very thick, long blonde/grey hair. When I go short (which hasn't been often) my hair gets more and more frizzy. It seems the length and the weight pulls a lot of the frizz out. Crazy, right? I want to send you an email to see what in the world I should do with this mane of hair I have. I've been blessed with hair that almost never has split ends and people stop me in the stores to tell me what beautiful hair I have so I don't want to upset that applecart too much. I like the compliments, but as I age and as arthritis starts showing up, my long hair is becoming more and more difficult to manage. Also, my face is full as is the rest of me...if you get my meaning. How do I go about sending you a request? I'm loving the content in your posts and I'm very glad I found you.

Judy Jeffries Corbutt: I love the favorite of yours on #4. Looks like the Sharon Stone look. I wld love that but my face shape prohibits that style. #1 is great too. Plus maybe I shld go more blond. I'm red now. Thanks for this great video

joann orlando: Love your channel ❤ Can you do these short styles with bangs? Thanks

Zena X: I have just had a pixie cut and I love it!

Jody Jackson: Hi Justin! Love your videos. And I thought your assessment was spot on!! The only comment I have is that the name of this video is about short hairstyles for women over 50, yet the women you show, none of them have a double chin or a “turkey” neck, which is what a lot of women that age contend with. And which is exactly why I can’t wear shorter styles. To do so emphasizes my chin, jaw and or neck. I’m 67 and wear my hair in an inverted Bob with the longer hair in front “covering” my chin from my profile. You know what I mean? I wish you could do a video on hairstyles that can help distract away from the many flaws a woman can have. Like being overweight, too round a face, elongated ear lobes, pointy head, flat head in the back, lol etc. Thanks Justin. Love you!!

Nikkigatorfan: Love them all the last one is definitely a favorite. The gray also adds this is me love it or not. ❤

P Wengel: Thank you for going short! Just use my thin old hair to make one work

Barbara Drew: I would absolutely love to have style No 1 - short but still very feminine - but my hair is fine AND quite thin and there just isn't that much of it! (Lucky model!) I want to avoid the "old lady cut" at all costs!!!

Darlene Bordelon: My favorite is the really short haircut. It shows confidence and flair.

Butterfly23 Faith: Been a while since I have been hair haha you look fantastic!!! Thank you for the information and eye candy lol hope your wife is well God bless

V. Thom: I would like to see more short "pixie" or natural short styles for women of color. For a more youthful look.

Debbie CS: I love the tapered hair on the nape of the neck that has wisps. I have fine, somewhat thin hair and been wondering what short style would suit me.

Maria Robson: My problem is....my hair type really suits a short, choppy, messy type style. It naturally has a slight bend in it and so styling it is very easy. However, it's my FACE that doesn't suit shorter hair

Genevieve Doyon: Just in time, haircut appointment this Friday, need a change. No in fact I need an overhaul! Thank you for this!!

Diane Wristen: YOU AND YOUR WIFE ARE SO FUN TO WATCH AND LISTEN TO. THANK YOU, I AM STILL LEARNING, ONTO THE NEXT VIDEO.

Maria Bonaria Fois: I love short hair, because I live in Sardinia and go to the beach from May to October, and short hair is easier to keep in order. Currently my hair is like #1 in the video, medium length short. My favorite is #3, and I think I'll make them like this. I like #4 but it's not for me! Thank you for all the advice and suggestions you give us! A hug from Cagliari Ciao

Kathy N: Agree with your most fav! She totally owns it!

Olivia GlaSS: #4 - what I call the Maye Musk hair style :) is my favorite. I do have a similar new haircut - but I am not bold enough to wear it out of my face completely. Still experimenting with the styling products….. how about a video on that subject :) ?

Justme77: I love my long, curly/wavy hair. I'm 62 and it's my best accessory. I'm NEVER cutting my hair.
