Good morning my grandma's in town, so she's gon na straighten my hair, we're gon na see how it goes. I, like it like this, so I don't really straighten it, but you know: let's switch it up, see you guys and um mosque is in, and I do this before I wash my hair, because I don't comb my hair during the week and so this kind of Just preps it for all the detangling I'm about to do. It also feels really good to moisturize my hair, like this, it's so soft. Thanks to my dad's jeans, I have very thick hair, so I can't just like go in and try to comb it because I'll end up crying. I also have two different hair textures, so I don't know if you guys can see this is my hair? We'Re halfway done we're about to cut it because there's so many split ends. I promise I'm not sad. I, like the hair, it's cool, I'm so into these rollers. I'M gon na wear these every day now! Well, hello, everybody! I just woke up and I have thoughts about my hair. None of this really went as planned. If I'm being honest, I thought I was going to straighten my hair and then it was going to be super long. It kind of just gon na length check it, but it didn't last my grandma curled it and then the next day it frizzed up because it came out of the bandana that I was wearing and I'm like. I don't have time for this. I don't have time to keep re-straightening my hair, I'm not a hair stylist so that after isn't what I expected, it was really beautiful. I love the curls and it kind of looked like a wig to be honest, but that didn't really last. So what is the point? Thank you, after that, my grandma put it into some band two knots. Then I wore those on the plane. I got here to Colombia and then I took them out. It was cute. It wasn't anything that I prefer over my natural hair, which is something that shocked me, because when I was in high school, I loved loved having my hair straight thinking back on. It was probably more of an assimilation thing because it was such a hassle to have my hair straight. I always ran to the bathroom and would like check it, and then it was always kind of like stiff, because I was a volleyball player. I love to sweat. I love to play sports and do things so it's not like. I can just have my hair straight all the time, so it was so interesting to straighten my hair like three or four years later honestly and see just the difference in how I felt about it. I wasn't oh, I didn't like it that much it takes so long. It lasted like a week straight hair used to last me like three weeks to a month, but my life is just different now and I'm not feeling I'm not gon na do touch-ups. I'M not gon na, not sweat. For my hair, like I got ta do what I got ta. Do you know this is my life. I got ta live it. I got ta be free once I got here, I didn't really wear it down. I wore it down once yesterday and it literally got so poofy and then the breaking point was when I danced for a couple hours yesterday. That was the breaking point. You know it was just. It was like a nest, but did I stop dancing? Absolutely not because that gives me so much dopamine. It makes me so happy as much as I like straight hair. I don't even like that much as much as I have enjoyed having straight hair, it's not for me, it's not for me and I'm gon na tell you why it's not for me. It just doesn't match with my lifestyle. I have to live my life around my hair. I can't do that, I'm at the mercy of the weather, so if it's humid outside then my hair is going to get messed up and it's like I'm giving El clima too much power. Okay. At that point also, I love to dance. I love to dance love it. I sweat so much when I dance that does not exclude sweating my hair out, all in all straight naturally still life. It'S not for me. It'S just not for me. I can imagine it working for someone who just has kind of a more Chill Lifestyle doesn't really travel that much or like to swim. Oh, I love to swim. I'M sorry! I can't cancel it. I got ta jump in the pool. It is pretty nice to feel this way about my hair now, because I really do prefer my natural hair over straight hair and that's pretty cool. I never. I never thought I would feel that way. I like having kinky hair, I like froze, and I can go dance and sweat and they get a little poofy yeah, but so this hairstyle, on the other hand, just gon na get straight up ruined straight up, ruin! That'S about it. If I have any other thoughts on it, I'll like pop in but kinky hair for the win, hello, everybody, so I thought it would be really fun to record my experience throughout the week with having straight hair because, like I said it's been about three to four Years I have not had my hair this straight in so long as you can see. It'S not really straight, like it kind of has a little bit of curl in it, which I didn't mind, but I mean I did want to have it straight. You know ICS la vida. I was able to put it in this little clip style, which I usually cannot do with my natural hair texture as easily, because my hair is just too curly too thick to be using this little clay. But I could finally do it and it was actually kind of fun. I really did like this hairstyle day two same kind of vibe. I did a bun instead of the little clip, because, where I live, it's super rainy and if I wear my hair down, it's just going to get frizzy here is the phrase I personally love frizz. So I really like this hairstyle, but when I wore my hair out, the wind was pushing it around the weather, just kind of ruined it within 25 minutes of them being outside. So was it worth it? Probably not. I really liked it, but I feel like I could achieve this look by blow drying my hair. I wouldn't have to completely straighten it foreign foreign. Moving on to day five I went out to the club baby. I seriously have never enjoyed social dancing more. I don't know this man at all actually, but I had such a good time dancing with him. He is one of my favorite dance Partners to this day. At this point, my hair was kind of already sweated out, so I put it in this low bun and then, by the end of this night, just completely sweat out I mean I lost the keys. We got stuck in the rain. It was this whole thing. It just you know, I lost the keys if someone says they're a good person. Are they really a good person, but I think he was a good person, neither like in a lot of trouble - or this is gon na - be the best day of my life. The next day I put my hair in a bun and then I went to go, see my friend in the city, and it was raining. It was humid. I wasn't the biggest fan of this hairstyle. To be honest, we went up to a very clear river outside of the city we Rodeo. It was so much fun. I had the best time we were dancing, it was a hike it was swimming, it was. It was just great. I'Ve never been on such an adventure. To be honest, and at that point, as I'm sure you can guess the hair she was on her last leg. She was just it was time for her to be watched. Oh my God, people. Thank you. Foreign

Abigail Valencia: Your hair is absolutely stunning, makes me wanna wear my natural hair out more often. Keep posting these kinds of videos. They feel so intimate and personal- like I'm right there experiencing it all with you. There's no other content like this out there so, muchísimas gracias ❤

Mallow: i love that u cherish ur hair in its natural state ( im still trying to accomplish that as a 4c girl) but that was pretty awesome

딸기 가 좋아: I love volume so I never really liked straight hair. But then I found out the old bombshell super voluminous waves, and the vintage Gibson girl hairstyles, and now I love it. I just need to grow my hair to waist length first lol

딸기 가 좋아: We need a hair care tutorial/tips from your grandma

Khalilah D.: I love that you waited so long! I haven’t straightened my hair in three years and I was going to do a length check this winter too

ThatsMonique: Girl. Same. I straightened as soon as the temperature dropped a few weeks ago. And it lasted 5 days. Wasn’t as in love as I expected. But took me 8 hours to complete. I feel scammed.

Sincerely Tahiry: i just got my hair straightened and dyed green yesterday after 9 months of being natural. Even though i love my hair in all its states, you're absolutely right, straight hair requires the most upkeep. I actually have a dance class im going to on Saturday and the fact that I love dance sm but im contemplating skipping because i don't want to sweat out my hair proves that this life ain't for meeee . loved this video y estoy muy feliz que estes de vuelta en Columbia. You've inspired me to move there next Summer to better my Spanish. Gracias por todo

Hannah: girl you are a vibe and inspiration, as a young black woman myself I'm just so grateful for your content <3

Sarah Roux: Kianna I absolutely love your hair it's so beautiful. Through the past few years you have inspired me to love my natural hair .And i love your content videos so much .Thank you Kianna ❤❤❤

amina: Graduating and leaving high school was the best thing for my mental health and self-image. Growing up and going to a private school with people who don't look like you can really mess you up a bit. I've never even seen my natural hair until my sophmore year of college. But I've never loved my hair more and I'm loving every second of it

Miss Mary Mak: Oh no grandmas beautiful work went down the drain too quickly. Loved the final look but also love that you appreciate it in it’s natural state

Alaysia Mapp: This reminds me of how I tried a wig for the first time last year and I was so happy to know that I didn’t feel like the wig was superior to my own hair. I was just like this is cute, but okay.

Empress: The nostalgia I remember the high school vlogs with straight hair and also I’m so proud your inward growth and self love Makes my heart so happy

Jodie Simons: this video is just so refreshing , I love it!! my straight hair usually doesn't last either. yesterday I actually blow dried my hair and just decided to skip flat ironing it. but I wore my hair loose out today when me and my mom went out and I must say I was rocking my hair with confidence either way . also everything you said about straight hair in this video is so true . there's just so much more cons than pros.

Alex Joseph: Yes! My hair literally poofs up as I’m straightening it. Plus, I go to the gym 4 times a week and sweat mainly through my head so I don’t even bother As for the claw clip, I can get my natural hair into one if I split it into 2 puffs, only clip the back up, and just have the top in a high puff. It ends up looking like one ponytail

Armani Morris: Girl I definitely feel you. Straightening my hair is such an event - I haven’t straightening it in years either and I only do so when I know I’m gonna be sitting inside. Now that I’ve been natural, my hair has been the healthiest it’s ever been and I’m in love with it. Love to see how you’ve embraced your kinky hair!! ❤

Love, Jessica Jones: I prefer when my hair is straightened but I have a keratin treatment so it doesn’t frizz up to it’s kinky state. It’ll just get poofy as if I blow dried it so it’s still cute. I like my natural hair too especially when I have a great curl poppin day. Love the video and your hair in all states! ❤

Hannah Fernander: Felt. As black women the best hair styles are the ones that we love but also that fit our lifestyle. Must be functional fr

Ashli J: Agreed with straight hair and the lifestyle clash. I straighten my hair once a year and will be doing so when I go to Iceland in March. I love my hair in it’s curly state I have less stress.

Kaylee Tate: I also hate how much stress surrounds our hair like when I have braids I want my natural hair back and then when I have it curly I want BRAIDS I JUST WANT PEACE

LittleVMKGirl2: 2:35 I’m the same way. I always wore my hair straight, my mom pressed it like every 2 weeks. I played soccer growing up and I understand the struggle! Now I always wear my hair natural, either out or in braids.

Stormbornn: Girl you’re a whole vibe, never change. I smiled at the dancing, you did that and it was just so fun at the same time.

Alexa: I love the way you documented the hair progression and mixed in some Colombia content I’ve contemplated straightening my hair while traveling but this def taught me that might not be a good idea

𝒜 ᥫ᭡: omg seeing you straight hair for the first time in forever is crazyyy. i got so used to your kinky hair and you also seem much happier and confident in it too. the straight hair turned out beautiful and those curls were to die for, but i know exactly what you mean by the straight natural life not being sustainable with your life. i hate also stunting myself just bc of my hair

Ny: I relate soo much to when you were talking about how you loved your hair straight when you were younger. I used to love my hair straight because 1 i thought it was prettier even though I’ve grown out of that phase (thank god!!) and 2 because I didn’t have to mess with it as much as I did with my hair in its natural state but now that I’m older I definitely like my curly hair better than having straight hair. I straightened my hair and it lasted 3 days!! I’ve just finally accepted that my hair in its natural state is wayyy better for me and I’m okay with that!!!

kash: i straightened my hair after probably 4 years going without it. i used to do it every day before i went to school. this time, i didn’t even like how it looked on me. i instantly put it into a bun and couldn’t wait until wash day came around lol

Sydney Powell: I definitely can relate to this video. I straightened my hair earlier this year and although I thought it good and lasted a while, I kind of wish I didn’t straighten it. After straightening my hair, my curls struggled a lot (and are still struggling ). I put a lot of work into my curls so it kind of made me sad to see my hair backtrack. I will say one positive thing about straightening my hair is seeing how long it was. Sometimes when your hair is curly you don’t really realize how long it is or how much its grown, so it was nice to be able to see the growth.

Plamedi: Thank you so much for such an honest video, Kianna. I've started to realize that there is a shift in how young black women navigate their relationship with their hair. Similarly to how you now prefer your hair in its natural state, many others have gone back to straight hair. Then you have me who has been natural for several years but feel incredibly bored and uninspired, so I did what I realized would be best for me and decided to lock my hair literally less than a week ago. I absolutely love your transparency and over the years have seen you become more and more confident with your fro. Keep doing you, girly. It makes my day.

Kat : Being in nature is beautiful and always relaxing. I'm happy your living life, and not letting that hair stop you girl <3. I liked the straight hair tho. but natural is always the way to go.

SimplyAliyahNicole: Me encanta tu expériencia con tu pelo, es muy hermosa También tu bailando es chefs kiss!

Shyyy.: I love that you cherish your natural hair state, something we definitely have in common. ily

Kaylee Tate: Bestie I need you to know that apricot oil is the best for moisture it is SOOOO moisturizing !! So so good. Especially for doing twists !

Serena 🤍: I get you girl. You spoke your truth. I aspire to dance at that level ❤❤

alysiaa: i’ve been natural for almost 5 years now and like you said straight hair really doesn’t have the vibe it used to back in school. i blow it out 1-2x a year now for my trims and curl it right back up

Anne-Marie: girl ?? thank you for this video, i've had pretty much the same experience with straightening my hair (and therefore damaging it) during high school, and i've been wanting to try it again these days after so long but i'm really scared it might ruin my hair again (and for what ? 1 week of straight hair ?) and what you said made me realise that it's really not worth it ! i'm still trying to fully love my hair (which is hard) and your hair videos really help ! also i wanted to know : how often do you wash your hair ? (bc my hair texture is kinda similar to yours but your hair looks much healthier, so i wonder if i don't wash my hair way too often (every weekend))

yoncé del rey: your hair is sooooo cute & u look gorgeous as always.

Sadei: Omg girl! Love your hair! I have curly hair and gosh it definitely always is a journey. When I vacationed to Colombia this summer the humidity was low key not in my favor- at least compared to the weather here in Hawai’i. Thank you for sharing your hair journey as a curly gal... can totally relate! Aloha

Gloria Anderson: Love to see your hair care - fellow 4c girlie here and I’m so used to my hair in its shrinkage stage. I need to straighten my hair it’s been over 2 years

ari: you have beautiful hair <33 another great video, been watching you since 2018 and i love to see how much you've grown.

daniellesfinsta: this is giving me the itch to straighten mine lol. your hair looked beautiful!

Kayla Thompson: Your hair is so beautiful I’ve been watching you and your hair journey for so long and I love it because it inspires mine and lol I tried straightening my hair the other day and it frizzed up the next day too ‍♀️

Sarta Hoppe: Kianna will you make us part 2 of your hair routine ? Ps : still beautiful keep it up te amo ❤

The Purification Process: Thank you for posting this. I am so tired of seeing inauthenticity. Authenticity = sustainability ❤ which is love like I made a video but my platform is not big yet so this makes me so happy to see❤❤

Hollyyyn: your hair is gorgeous in its natural state ki, ur so beautiful either way tho ❤️

Hevin: Your videos always feel so romantic . They have such a free spirit to them

Hanee Ojimadu: you have to wrap your hair with a scarf and bobby pins (so everything is kept under the scarf). my hair lasts weeks when I do this. but also humidity will affect how long it stays straight.

Chisom A.: Yea it's been 6 years since I straightened my hair. (Mainly because i accidently burnt my forehead and the mark stayed for 3 years ). It was also when I stopped relaxers. I prefer curly hair and even though I'm 4b/c, that's how I wear it on the daily. I wear wigs for a couple weeks (I'm lazy so they're throw-on wigs and I take them off every evening). My straight hair will probably just revert 2 seconds later and look like a blowout too. Not worth it

Victoria Egwu: Love your videos. You should do a sister tag video

Sara L: Straight hair isn't for me either. I used to straighten it to death and it was stressful. I was afraid of the rain, humidity, and water in general. If it frizzed even slightly, I needed to straighten it. Now I have less stress with my natural hair. I can go out when it's hot and not worry about frizzing. I can workout, swim and just live. I'm a lazy natural so I only manipulative my hair a few times between washes because less is more and that has helped my hair flourish over the past few years.

TheShampooCoachHotLatherKyASMR: Absolutely loved watching this video

Lovelyn3zuko: Hi kianna! I loved this video, makes me wanna wear my hair naturally. I have 4C hair as well but i have been wearing it in braids for a while. Can you make a video on tips to grow my hair out? And how u make it have volume?

angwlee: I literally also recently straightened my hair too after years and had the exact same issue it lasted like 4 days I felt so betrayed

J: I love your natural hair, so beautiful

bongiwe buthelezi: Love your hair.

Zuby: Kianna i missed you so muchh The hair is fab Straightening my hair is a too much of a hassle too, besides I love curls more anyway! Keep shining your light. Love youu❤️‍❤️‍. Psst….can we get a travel vlog next?

Antonina Adhiambo Official: I love your hair it's so beautiful

bube udeh: 3:08 me whenever i straighten my hair now ... like once a year. if not ever again

TQ: You are such a beautiful soul. ❤

gift okeze: I’m curious, what do you do as for protective styling your hair? I want to go off using heat as well, only problem is when another person is doing my hair, they cannot style it without it being blow dried (smh ) and I’ve gotten used to doing that myself when I do my own hair. It’s so cool seeing your journey with your natural hair. Love you and your vids ❤

Gene Rodriguez: Your beautiful no matter how you wear your hair queen because you have inner beauty ❤️

hanifa longi: I never realise the video is almost over until it is and I'm thirsty for kianna again‍♀️

Christine: best thing that youtube ever did was put this on my recommended. i love your vibe. much love from Kenya♥

Spicy Picy: Should try Avlon texture release it would help with the humidity issues and allows you to heat style your hair with little to no frizz…I’ve been watching tons of videos about it from professional stylists and 4c naturals who have reviewed it…ion know just a thought lol

tanneranner: This is why if I want straight, wigs or weaves are the way to go.

Symone Campbell: This is literally the conversation I needed this week

kaylaawilliss: literally the best way to portray this experience

cathy omoregie: natural hair girlies unite!

Ellie XX: Hiii Kianna! Loving ur vids recently!

Feben Abebe: Hey Kianna, i am not sure what you exactly did before straightening your hair, but if you blow- dryed it, it was definitely the wrong method. I would recommend you, to use roller sets before straightening your hair. I know that this method seems really old school to some people., but this is the easiest way to get your hair straight and the healthiest way for your hair. As a girl who has 4c hair and use this method, i recommend it you. My hair will stay straight, for a month, if I would not wash it. By the way sorry for the bad Englisch:) I am from Germany! I hope I could help you!

Jaw Marie: EVERYONE WAKE UP KIANNA JUST POSTED!!

Ibukun Ogunlana: it didn't last cuz our hair is not meant to be straight and there are so many things needed to keep it straight which would NOT be good for outrhair x. It's a nice style for like a day but it easily curls back up and it's healthier to just leave it straight for trims then moisturise again which would revert the curls xx

LaTira Sharyln: What deep conditioner did you use?

Stephany Vargas: Morena, can we hang out if I ever end up in Colombia? Love your vlogs specially love your music & dance related clips.

natalia aurelio: girl how my heart has missed you

Nomqhele tdk vuma Thandeka vuma: She’s back ❤

Katalina Lozier: Waiting on an updated playlist video! your girl needs some more music haha

mai jennasis: look at that mane! it really is so beautiful reflecting on the evolution of your relationship w/ your hair as a black girl; such a unique experience to us.
