As you can see, it's the little things that make a big difference in your hair routine. Now to preface there is nothing wrong with this side of my head. It'S just a very different look and with just a few Pro tips and tweaks to your routine, you can have results that are a lot more bouncy voluminous shiny, even healthy. What'S good everybody, if you don't know me, I'm Mel and recently I shared with you a few things that you don't need to be doing in your hair routine, but there are some very underrated practices. So in this video I'm going to show you what you should be doing, because, ultimately I want to save you time and I'd like to save you money so without further Ado. These are some do's and don'ts of styling that are worth doing. Oh - and I also want to mention that throughout this video, you will see me using some Aveda styling products. I am a very proud Aveda, stylist and Ambassador, and so I use elevator products throughout today's routine. I will have the order of all the products I am using listed below as well as links, so you can check them out, including this is the new Botanical repair Bond building styling cream. So you'll learn a little bit more about this, but ultimately you will see that it's not just about the product, but how you are using it so without further Ado, let's get to it. So I'm just going to start by clipping up one half of my head that won't be doing any of these steps. What I call this neglect - maybe that's dramatic, but the first thing you want to do and not skip is D shed. What does that even mean? Well, we are always shedding every day. 50 to 100 strands are loosening, they are releasing from our scalp and it's totally normal totally realistic. But it can look scary when your hair is Curly, because we don't detangle our hair every day. So this isn't quite detangling, but this is helping to remove the strands that are caught and locked in the curls so that when you go to detangle, oh it's going to be so much easier and you definitely want to de-shed. If there's a long time in between your wash days a minute and 15 seconds to fully detangle 30 seconds, less 30 seconds, less employee detangles it half the time. Well I mean when you're using a good conditioner, but I'm sorry it was so much easier step. Two that you shouldn't be skipping that you don't want to skip is oiling. I am a big fan of oil treatments to the hair. They have always worked amazing for me as someone with high porosity and the science says that it's better to use them than to not so I kind of do these two steps simultaneously. As I am oiling my strands, I'm smoothing them down, I'm protecting them before washing and I'm ever so gently detangling, but most importantly, these shedding to protect our hair and preserve the shine and strength on our ends, which are much more fragile than the rest. And look, you might not care to oil, your hair if you have low porosity, but if you color treat your hair, then this is definitely something you want to be doing and everyone should be de-shedding. This is all from just half of my head right now double cleansing when it comes to Cleansing. There is a reason: Salon professionals, preach, lather, rinse and repeat for the same professionals that advise not to overly wash your hair too often because it's damaging and can result in dry frizzier strands. So watch as I cleanse the first time around. The shampoo just doesn't foam as much the product has to work really hard to cut through the initial wall of dirt and oils and likely won't get all of them off in one go, especially since a lot of shampoos nowadays are made to be more gentle. So this is going to leave behind some build up, which is why double cleansing is so so beneficial, especially if you space out your wash days if your hair is really dirty and if you like, using styling products on the second go around, you won't need a Lot of shampoo and if you're worried about this being drying, you can use a deep moisturizing shampoo like I'm using here. This is the Aveda nutriplenish deep, moisture shampoo. It is one of my favorite moisturizing shampoos, but just look at the lather. I am able to work this through my strands to gently cleanse the lengths and ends and the hair is ready for conditioning. You can actually see a big difference in the before versus the after build up left on your strands when cleansing will result in more frizz. So this tip is underrated, but highly recommended next stay where you are and start styling in the shower now. This is a huge Time Saver, especially if you have dry hair that dries very quickly because the more wet your hair, the more defined your curls, will be. Now this is what I recommend, especially if your hair is dry after rinsing out your conditioner apply a leave-in cream or, as I am doing, use a styling cream to work into your ends. This is aveda's new Botanical repair Bond building, styling cream and since incorporating this into my styling routine over the last month, My Curls have been so incredibly bouncy. The technology in this utilizes a silicone free, naturally derived plant complex to build the hydrogen bonds in your hair, strengthen and reinforce hairs Integrity from the cortex protect the hair's outermost F layer of the cuticle to help Shield it from future styling damage, and this cream provides A flexible medium hold with styling polymers that you want evenly coating your strands, so you can see, I am finger combing it, and this is a technique I'm going to keep doing to style. So you can really appreciate my natural curl pattern at the end of this video without manipulation using these products. Besides, if you leave it for later, like I'm doing on the one side and your hair starts to dry, your product might not evenly apply now. Just because I started in the shower doesn't mean I need to finish in the shower now that we've got the ball rolling. Let'S continue, shall we lovely now on the topic of heat styling, although that's not what I'm doing here today, one of the most important things that I could say as a stylist to help you at home keep the health of your hair intact, is in fact to Be reapplying your heat protectants in between each heat application. Now that may not be the same product, because some products are meant to be applied on damp hair but reapplying a new layer of protectant, let's say before blow drying and then again before using a hot iron that is going to ensure that you are truly pretty Protected so we got pre-pooing, de-shedding double cleansing, styling in the shower, don't knock it till you try it reapplying heat, protectant and now styling in sections. I'Ve already split my hair in two and on this side I will show you not what not to do but the difference this makes. So I'm going to take some of my gel, I'm taking that amount and I'm going to smooth this over my hair, which, if it were thicker this would not be easy for me to do thoroughly. I want you to zoom and really see how this looks. It'S not bad, it's not bad, but let me show you something better, we're first, going to start by sectioning the hair and actually we started in the shower. My hair's got a lot of moisture, but now that I've actually separated the hair, I can treat each section for how it's growing out of my head and so now by sectioning I can properly and thoroughly get to styling. Now I could feel that I could use a little bit more gel. Maybe I like a look with a lot of hold in my hair and if that sounds like you, I want you to avoid over using one product, because the reality is. I already have this in my hair, I'm kind of going in with another layer, but I'm not getting any additional benefits out of this product, I'm just simply packing it. On my hair, and so now by sectioning, I can properly and thoroughly apply less of one product and I can layer in another one for additional benefits. For example, right now, I'm adding a little bit of a mousse with stronger hold, because, like I mentioned it is winter here, so I kind of need a stronger hold. So I'm just using a small amount of this to scrunch Into My Curls and by doing all of this, the sectioning, the layering, I'm actually using less amounts of product just multiple which allows me to also do some necessary spot training. You know when you use concealer, and you know a couple areas that are a little well. They need a little extra everyone has that section on their head. That needs a little extra. It may be the area around their face, because this hair tends to be a lot finer, and it also takes a lot of day-to-day mechanical damage by pulling back our hair sleeping on it, maybe playing with it tucking it behind our ear. These curls might not always cooperate with you for me. I really like to focus my spot, treating in my bang section, because this is the area that frames my face, and I want it to look very based, bearish they're, very beige, and if you look closely, you can just see how this little corner at my temples Is super super frizzy, it's unruly, it just doesn't want to cooperate with me. You might have a section in the back of your crown that feels like a completely different texture on your head. That really might not be necessary on your whole head. I mean it. Might look really good, but it's going to be really time consuming and again not necessary, so we do some spot treating I mean just look at the difference, all red. I almost flashed you. This is styling one section with just one product but kind of a lot of it, so that I really make sure I get enough, but on this side we sectioned spot treated and layered our products and now we're gon na get to drying. Even though I showed you how to properly use this thing for over five years now, there are still people that prefer air drying, but allow me to demonstrate straight yet again, while you should not underestimate this thing, it's all about how you are diffusing. We start by hovering. You want to focus at your root area, keep the dryer facing downwards circulating around your head and then we're gon na scrunch with the diffuser to encourage bounce. So a tip is to turn the dryer off as you move it from section to section and on, as you have the curls scooped up in the bowl. You want to hold for about 10 seconds before releasing and going on to the next section until dry. I'M so lopsided I am going to be so lopsided. It'S the one downfall to doing these side-by-side videos that and the middle part see what happens if we aren't diffusing now. As a Canadian curly, I am not crazy, it is midwinter and I'm not going to stand around air drying, so we're just going to mimic. That effect, with this little dryer stand, I'm going to put the dryer on cool and just mimic the effect of air drying. The things you make me do for you. Obviously, as you can see, it's the little things that make a big difference in your hair routine. Now, it's not just the things that you do on wash day. They make a big difference, but even throughout the week, as you were also doing, your workout routine, make sure that you remove your hair, tie your scrunchie, whatever you put in your hair, to keep it from moving make sure you release that hairstyle. While it is still fresh, I mean with sweat if your hair dries in your ponytail, it's going to take that shape for the rest of the week and there's one more bonus. You might not want to hear it, but make sure sure you are frequently trimming your hair, the more that you maintain your hair with haircuts, the better the bounce, the shape the volume, the movement, the health of your hair will be also styling is always easier. After a fresh haircut, which I am actually in need of, I could definitely use a little shaping, even if that means I just do it myself at home, but we'll save that for another video. Thank you so much for tuning in to today's video. I hope you found it helpful and before we go, the people want to know. I am, of course, referring to answering a question from last week's video. For our end of day, q, a and Nicole is asking: do you ever use two different shampoos in your double cleanse, just curious, because that's what I do and it works so far and absolutely I do this is not something you have to do. Double cleansing is recommended, but you don't have to use two different shampoos. However, if we remember one of my points, it's better to layer products, you get multiple benefits, instead of just using a lot of one and products. So why not use two different shampoos to double cleanse? I do this a couple different ways. Sometimes I start with something a lot more clarifying and then I go in with a more moisturizing shampoo, just to help kind of soften everything and just be a little bit more gentle. We already went in with heavy duty, but on the other hand, sometimes I use something really. Gentle like I have some co-washes that you guys know. I don't usually like to use. Conditioner washes in my cleansing routine unless I'm using it for pre-detangling. So sometimes I will use a really conditioning wash if my hair feels super dry and tangly just to kind of help loosen things up gently cleanse before going in with the big guns and going in with the rest of my routine. So I kind of switch it up, but absolutely definitely recommend using two shampoos. If you have, you should always have at least two shampoos that you can alternate between, so you can truly care for all of your hair's needs. I hope that this video was something that you needed to see. I hope that you appreciate the sacrifices. Please give this video a thumbs up and subscribe to me. If you haven't already, we are actually very quickly on our road to 700k, which means we're gon na have to do an updated giveaway. Thank you so much. I can't believe that we're we're here we're getting here we're getting here together. It'S a wonderful thing. I don't even know what song that is to sing. I think I'm gon na have to write my own music. Now that I look ridiculous, I'm gon na go and I will see you in the next video. Thank you so much for watching until next time, peace, foreign. Why is the camera so high? I'M tall, Amanda, hey! You go girl, yeah, I'm trying to finish before the song goes down. I believe in you, I'm getting hungry tracking cancel nah. Let'S, let's have it track me, I'm not meant for this life. Look at it where's my face. You can't even see me. I just want to open up the curtains. Can you see me staring at the blank page before you reaching for something and learning Celine Dion? Listen to Tasha Bedingfield really is Lil Wayne on your skin and my kids are sweating. You know what I like the sound of the okay move. Not today are we looking? Oh, no, no, no hold it together, hold it together. He did. I scooped it up. I don't give a [ __ ]: why does this [ __ ] always happen not yet jump. The gun jump the gun on that one. All right: yeah, oh cool!

Zoé Rosado: Dear Mell, happy Texture Thursday! This is off topic, but I wanted to tell you something that I think you, Amanda, and the community will find interesting. About a year ago I decided to follow your “universe haircut” tutorial. I have to say I LOVED how my hair looked with that haircut. After that, I would dust my hair every two months just like you instruct in your “no haircut haircut” video. My hair was lovely and healthy. A few months passed by and my hair grew a bit. I realized I had great volume in the back/bottom of my hair but not at the top of my head, and it was getting a bit heavy on the bottom and slightly more triangular at the front. So I was like: “Hm, so I wanna keep my length, but I also want to cut some excess hair.” Like I wanted it to have more layers in the back so that I would have more volume at the top of my head but like to also give it a round shape. So, I didn’t know what to do and I started searching for information. I watched various tutorials and decided to go with one of them that resembled the shape I had in mind. The girl in the tutorial was great as well and she explained everything step by step BUT, Mell, when I tell you my haircut ended up being soooooo uneven…like…it was bad. And, sadly, I didn’t achieve the shape I was going for. I felt like I had just made it shorter. Truth is I think I didn’t follow the tutorial very well. I allowed my hair to grow a bit before going back to cut it again. After about a month and a half I decided to go back to the “universe haircut” video and see what I could do with your info plus the info I had researched. Firstly I cut my bangs, like you showed us. (I usually cut my bangs using the “pigtails haircut” video.) After that, I marked the perimeter and when I made the ponytail, I cut and cut and cut everything that was uneven. Then I cried, because I realized how short I had made it. After regretting it for like two minutes, I let all my hair down and realized it actually didn’t look bad. It was short but even. Even with the longer parts in the front and longer perimeter I thought I was getting somewhere. After that I decided to rewatch your recent short where you make a variation of the “pigtails haircut” and tell us to place the pigtails lower for a rounder look. I did that and it looked lovely. I was kinda almost crying again but with excitement. Then I worked with the perimeter to make it rounder following the rest of the instructions on that same short. Andddd, like you say, I stopped and didn’t get any more scissor happy. I felt happy. I washed my hair and it looked lovely. So…that’s my story. It’s been about a month from that. At first I didn’t know how much of a mistake or a good thing I did. I just know my hair is even now, that somehow I have pretty layers and that my hair looks round. I think it’s a pretty high maintenance haircut though…and I’m still not very sure about how to keep the shape without altering length. I’m thinking on working with the pigtails maybe. It was a weird process for me haha but I’m glad it turned out well. Just wanted to share the rollercoaster with you guys. Thanks always and happy texture Thursday once more!

ima jenn: Wash the stands ❤️❤️ Finally! Just letting the suds rinse down & clean, is like scrubbing your shoulders and letting the suds wash you as you rinse! Hey, thanks for the oil tip on lo-po. It would be cool if more CC's would talk about how what they are doing may be different for other hair types.

Liberated Soul: I love how genuine and funny you are Mel! You always bring a smile to my face :) I really wish I could get my hair done by you, it's a dream of mine!

Isabel Köster: I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your content. It's has helped me more than any other channel and Mel always knows how to put a smile on my face. Thank you❤️ I tried the double styler method today and it's the best wash day I've had in a while☺️

Jacalyn Brooks: This is so helpful! I'm trying to take care of my curls and your style is definitely the direction I want to go. Would you make a video showing how to do at home maintenance trims for curly hair? I know haircuts are still important but I sometimes can't justify going into the salon when I just need a trim.

That One User: I'll definitely try double cleansing; I currently only use clarifying shampoo because every time I used my moisturizing shampoo, I would notice it just didn't clean as well and left me with product build-up, frizziness, and greasiness. Using a clarifying shampoo followed by a deep conditioner every wash day has been working quite smoothly so far with really nice and defined results, but maybe double cleansing will provide even better results? Find out next time on: Dragon Ball Z!

Ioana Schifirnet: Love how thorough this video is! Truly a weapon for amazing hair!

Kaleka Quinones: Hi Mell. I love learning with this channel. I've never styled in the shower but I'm going to start trying. I also just need to take better care when I'm sleeping. Maybe get smaller bonnets for my shorter hair. Also Mell where did you get that robe? I love purple too

Madison Burke: I love these tips! I really need to do a goooood clarifying shampoo and start from scratch and give these tips a try. My personal weakness is sectioning. Ugh!!

Sheila O: Mel , my hair isn’t even that curly. It’s definitely wavy like 2cor 2b texture, but I religiously watch all of your videos. Your personality and energy is so uplifting and I think you’re hilarious, you give me Raven Simone vibes! Also, you’ve helped me bring out my natural texture and I love my wavy hair now.❤❤❤

Sofia: I’ve been using your products since they came out and my hair has never looked better, thank you :)

H T: Wow I used two different shampoos wondering if that was actually a bad thing to do! One sulfate free, but when I felt it didn’t do a good job of cleansing my hair I went it with deeply cleansing one + its conditioner. The odd thing however was ghat the Mielle „moisturizing“(!) mask made my hair feel squeaky cleaned and stripped of any oil and moisture.I seriously lack patience for all these hair regimens…‍♀️

JoAnne Hutt: Omg! I totally am lazy at all these must do tips! Im going to try and start adding these in on a regular basis. Thank you as always Mel!! ❤

C. C.: Mel. Great video as usual. I about spit out my drink when you were talking about that frizzy section at the top corner of the temple. I call that my nappy spot and have to put tons of product on that part of my hair. By the way, love all the length on the left side! Is that a dryer stand or a mic stand? I have to trim the fairy knots I get near the ends of my hair. Otherwise they cause larger tangles.

Dawn-Marie Oliver: I just discovered your channel recently and I am hooked! I have shorter, greying hair (less than chin length) and fibromyalgia, so using a diffuser is impossible for me some days, and just difficult other days. I bought a bonnet dryer to help; I would love to see some tips for bonnet-drying techniques for shorter hair.

Zoé Cohen: Hey Mell, I have a question. When buying a pillowcase for my hair, is there a big difference between silk and satin? Is one better than the other?

Sherwenia: Thank you so much for the "take off the scrunchie after your workout routine." I always keep it while I shower after, until next day . That's probably explain a lot of things . Thanks from France!

SioLazer: Bonus tip: make sure to thoroughly rinse your shower floor after you're done because it will turn into a slip n slide.

bcgrote: I sprained my thumb. Curl care is a real challenge rn!! These are great tips, thank you!!!!

Nice Girl Jenn: Yes recently I started using head n shoulders just on my scalp and a repair moisturizing shampo thru the strands. Liking the results so far

Rachel Young: Hi Mell! Wondering what oil you used before wetting your hair? Very interested in trying that :)

Iskra🌹: The fact that our curly hair can be this both .. amazing

Mango juul pod: I’d love to get my curls to this I know there’s something behind this I’ve definitely gotten a lot more curl back this past year or so but it’s still not where I want it I’d love to see an at home cut

Fer Ruiz: Can we get a whole video on water damage? I’ve heard you mention it in most videos but as a male who works out daily, I feel like I NEED to wet/wash my hair everyday.

Elizabeth Jessmore: I experimented with the "Curly Girl Method". I also had a heart attack/open heart surgery in 2020, so I'm on meds for that. I will neither confirm nor deny that i may or may not have taken scissors to head three times since then. Needless to say, I'm in desperate need of a hair ‍♀️

Shannon Conn: oh my goodness thank you!!! Some of these was not doing, but definitely will be incorporating now to make those curls/waves poppin!!

D W: I finally got around to trying the VERB foaming gel. Holy curls batman! Game changer. I have fine wavy hair with moderate hair loss and my hair looks amazing! My hair never looks amazing, but the last 2 days it has. I love this stuff!

Catherine Young: Mell (and Amanda!) - loved this video! I am always ready to try new things on my curls. Thank you! Did you get new film equipment? The quality and sound seems amazing today. Love both of you seesters ❤❤

Delilah Espinosa: I recently double cleansed and noticed the shampoo foamed more the second time. Weird! I have a question though: I use a styling cream, a gel, and the denman brush to style my hair. If I wanted to style my hair in and out of the shower, would I use the styling cream first all over and then used the gel and denman brush in sections outside the shower? I don't know what my hair porosity is, but I have really thick 3A/B hair that's up to my mid back with shrinkage.

Deanna: Happy Texture Thursday!! Excited for this one!! Hope your having a fabulous day!! Much love and happiness!! Xoxo

LauraLee411: Awesome tips! I have quick question...is protien only meant for "repairing" the hairs? I'm not color treated and I only use heat during defusing but my curls fall limp and frizzy sooner than they used to. Thanks for any advice.

Tala Aa: I really love this video’s title, i just know I’ll end up learning something I didn’t know I needed Thank you Mel

Mia Grant: Hey Mell, loved the video! I was wondering if you've ever used a diffuser cap? I've been debating getting one, and would love to hear your opinion on them.

Lisa R: I know you're interested in sustainability, and I'm curious if you have plans to do any bar shampoo/conditioner videos! I recently began using the Viori set. I was skeptical of how well a bar conditioner would work on my lower porosity hair, and I have been pleasantly surprised. I'd love to hear more about other options and see some comparisons!

Denise Whalen: Hi Mel. Love the tips. Here's the thing as much as I want to invest in the products I am not able to afford the recommended products with the current cost of living on disability. Can you please do a budget-friendly video of the products to use for those of us in this position? I want to have my waist-length hair look its best too. Thanks

kae thé: Aveda is the absolute BEST for my hair. I've been using all Aveda for 20+ yrs. Every single time I have tried another product I have regretted it.

Amy D: No shade on the in-shower tip, but for those of us on a sensitive septic system and tight water restrictions (ie: quick showers/no adding in more “just do it in the shower” steps) - i cleanse in shower, rinse, add conditioner (or just co-wash), wrap in turban and get out. My conditioner (or co-wash) can sit a few minutes while i moisturize, etc. Then, with my hair towel/turban on the sink’s edge to catch any dripping, i rinse in sink using a lot less water (and hair shed control!), but still able to then add my stylers to very wet hair- just over the sink instead of in shower. Hope that helps anyone with same circumstances :) Thank you Mel for the great video as always!

Ashley Natasha: Hi Mel, I want to ask, wich ingredients can I look for in a protein product? I'm having a hard time looking for affordable ones, thank you

ComaLies225: Styling in the shower is a no go for me. I detangle before and after mainly because I’ll be stuck in the shower forever if I have to detangle and style and my hair tangles easily. Also, not trying to clog my drain (again)

Gail Dudlicek: Thanks for this video. I can hardly wait for my next wash day to use these methods. I’m betting I will see a huge difference.

Chrissy Moss: The shampoo firing off in wrong direction (bloopers) had me crying laughing I need reading glasses, therefore, I can't see what is the shampoo bottle or the conditioner SOLUTION - With a marker pen, write a LARGE "S" on the shampoo bottles and a large "C" on the conditioners. Problem totally solved You're very welcome ☺

Jess G.: I laughed so hard when your shampoo squirted and you scooped it up! Soooo relatable!

Sonia Burgos: Thanks for the hair tips! You are always so informative!

April Plourde: "Just because I started in the shower, doesn't mean I need finish in the shower". THATS WHAT SHE SAID

Primrose : We appreciate the sacrifice, girlie! This was a good one

Nicole Walker: Yayyyy, thanks so much for answering my question, Mel! Today is my 50th birthday and this made my day!! ❤

Carla Panarello: Dear Mell, I love all your videos and, especially, your scientific explanations! Could you make a video about products for kids? What does make them suitable for kids? Could you suggest some product for kids fine hair? Could you include international brands, easy to find in Germany or Italy? I will appreciate it very much!

Arlene Guizado: I so appreciate you and your sister, your tips, and your humor.

Dorcas Troche: I cannot stop laughing at the bloopers at the end. I, literally, laughed out loud when the shampoo squirted the wrong way.

Aliyah Ortiz: Is there any shampoos that you recommend that are specifically for scalp care? I’m really struggling with that part of my routine and I was looking for some advice. ❤

Antisocialist: The left side still looks good, so you can’t really say that it’s the “don’t” side

Melina Sica: Texture tuesday I was be able to follow live but with texture thursday I check it with some delay But still in love with your content and can’t wait to try this out. But currently facing an issue where my hair is way too soft but I didn’t change anything with my routine. i just came back from skiing vacation and I’m thinking it was the weather (the cold) that is creating this issue. Also had a lot of helmet hair and no curls but now my hair is extremely soft searching how to fix it. Btw still waiting for the verb line to be delivered in Belgium❤️❤️

Windy Woods: Like the new camera action and as always love your bloopers at the end you always crack me up. Keep smiling

Tiffany Phares: I will definitely start double cleansing! Do you have a lazy/easy way to help low porosity hair that may be protein overladed to soak up moisture without having to pop on a heat cap every wash day?

Dante Velasquez: GOD is this so true. Now that I combine many small steps like these I get my hair to look how I want. If I remove even one of them it is noticeable.

Belinda Chappell: Can you please include a review of the shower head you’re using in a future video please ❤ great video thanks Mell and Amanda.

B Kalie: Hey girl!! I need some help getting and keeping my wavy curls from holding and not falling flat. My hair is thick, coarse, and high porosity. Only a super hold gel works.

weatherviewer: Love everything as always but I noticed you didn't have a product link for the pre-oil treatment. I've never done that and not sure if that would weigh down my thin curls. Can you or anyone here recommend something? Thanks!! <3<3<3

Sandra: Mell, is it ok to skip the leave in conditioner to go for the styling cream instead?

Melissa Stauffer: I am wondering if you could give your opinion on the Sap Moss shampoo and conditioner for winter? I like the intense moisture for the winter(I’m high porosity/thin strand) but am wondering what Aveda shampoo and conditioner I could use for spring /summer. I love Aveda! I’m 52 and post menopausal and it has SAVED my hair! I won’t use another brand if I can help it. Lol.

wanderlust83: When the product squirted over your hand onto the shower floor - I def felt that and I also scoop it up. Can't afford to waste products !!

CP LDC: Hi, happy for this new video ! I'm trying to be a good "student" but when something strat to work on my hair i have the tendency to abuse and recently my hair had too much protein i think I'll be more attentive to your advices.

Aye See: I know volume is a big thing for curls but I always have too much lol

Kendall: Hey Mell! I think my hair is in moisture overload. I used a protein defining cream but it didn’t help. Do I need a protein mask?

Gia Pressare: Did I miss the heat protectant? Thank you for the video Mel!

Mercades: Another great video! :) Are we getting some v-day hairstyle tips?

Daniel Smith: I need some serious help with frizz, I had recently gotten a light perm. Maybe 2c or so, I have pretty fine long/ med hair and I longboard to class so the wind just immediately frizzes my hair. I use shea moisture products, I also have aveda phomollient mousse. I’m pretty sure I have the right products for me but I’m not sure what technique to use to keep the curl throughout the day. I’m also a guy if that makes any difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Minna Uyeda: I have a ton of awesome products thanks to following your tips. But I’d like to know what diffuser blow dryer you like. For example, do I want ionic, titanium, ceramic? I need lightweight because of pain issues, but I can’t afford a $200 blow dryer. I also know my current diffuser blow dryer is cheap and not doing my hair any favors. I know that’ll help a ton, but I want to make a wise investment.

Mercedes Solaberrieta: Does using hot vs cold water actually make a difference when washing hair?? I've heard cold water can make it shinier, but not sure if that's true ‍♀️‍♀️

Maria Laura Taylor: Hi mel! What kind of oil did you use as a pre-Poo treatment? Thanks

ashley mechel: What kind of cleanser shampoo should you use? I use suave and it dries my hair so much I never would think to do it twice. Plus it foams great. My hair is so dry and brittle afterward though, is that normal for cleansing? Or should I be experimenting for a different cleanser?

Takoyakieater: I really dislike pre-pooing. I have scalp issues feel like putting oil my scalp *before* shampooing defeats the purpose. I usually add oils to my scalp after drying

A Google User: Mel can you explain why one side of my hair might be consistently more frizzy than the other after diffusing?

Tami Burling: I love all of your videos. You have taught me so much on how to care for my curly hair. Up until 6 months ago I've always straightened my hair (I'm in my 50's). Now, with your help, I enjoy my curls and they look very healthy. I have a question for you....have you every used a diffuser hat/cap? Would you recommend them? If you do recommend them, what brand(s) would you recommend?

Gladys Ortiz: I’m confused… so if you use the cream, do you still condition or deep condition or skip Altogether with that cream? thank you!

Gabrielle R.: Hi Mell and Amanda, happy Texture Thursday. Off topic from the video of course, I’ve been really wanting to change my hair color. I’ve currently got level 3 to 4 virgin hair. Obviously, as a curly, damage is my biggest concern. I’ve heard good things about the Clairol Professional Textures and Tones box dye. As a professional, I’d like to know your opinion on it. Would it be a bad idea?

A NB: What’s the actual reasoning behind layering different gels vs. layers of the same one? Why is the former more beneficial?

Andrea Mattio: Me who was already doing half that stuff (specially styling in the shower since it's quicker and I'm a single mom): "... don't we all do that?"

Michelle D: Any tips when you have different curl patterns? For instance my curls are tighter underneath and jump 2 inches higher than the top. I end up pulling on the underneath while diffusing creating frizz! HELP!

yasira: Am i the only one who likes the left side better i am not really that fan of shrinkage in my hair

Jayne Giesler: So does your hair feel product-y after using multiple products. I’ve tried to use the new bond building Aveda product and the Nutriplenish Gelee and it feels heavy. Like there is a lot of product. I like the way Nutriplenish gelee works alone though. I think I must be doing something wrong

aikanae1: $36? And I thought oleplex was expensive. That's a "no" from me.

Killeen Reidy: Would you mind doing a video reviewing some scalp care focused products? The dry scalp in the winter is realll

Emily Leavitt: For someone with low porosity… should I use oil pre-poo??

Rainbow subs: youre so helpful and amazing !

Maia B.: When I style in the shower, my hair ends up dry and frizzy. Idk what I do wrong. ‍♀️

Dora Kalea: You became an obsess for us the curlies of course and I use two shampoos too. Do anyone else feels like the products that we have in our bathroom will last forever? I have like 10 different shampoos , 30 stylers, uncounted gels and I buy more every month I have to make a bazaar

Keisha S.: ❤❤thank you Mel for the tips

Ronda Wiebe: So... I have hair very much like yours only qbout 40 years older. I'm mostly white but some of my original very dark ash brown is still there, especially in the neck area. I have very porous hair and have been co-washing with WEN for over 10 years. I've never had more healthy and manageable hair. No split ends. No scalp issues. No buildup that I can see. I think it's because I have very, very dry hair and skin. I use oils much as you do, though it's a concoction I came up with on my own, and I have used a number of your styling techniques to get great results. However, I had covid a year ago and lost almost half my hair. Not all of it is coming back either. Can you give me some help to get it growing again? Thanks much. You're the first hair stylist I've seen who actually has hair like mine and I love it! Thanks for the help.

Reyna Hemsworth: I never knew there was a name for what I do every morning, (de shedding )Nice to know I was doing at least one thing right

RamatoulieBo: Could you talk about diffusing really short hair? I have pixie-ish short curls so diffusing without causing frizz seems a little difficult and also seems like... is this a good use of my time, my hair is so short lol

T. B.: Mell, how do you keep your skin tone even all over your body?

carbunkle311: How does your hair look so healthy ? What have you done to get it looking so good? And also i have sort of wavy and limp hair on top and curls like spiral underneath… my curls only looked good during my pregnancy… and that was 2 years ago. The thing is i love to brush my hair morning and evening… but brushing takes the curls away… how do you get around that?

Sigal ben-tabi: Hi mel, How can defuse my hair BUT without making it look shorter???

Maria Sanchez: Wants to save us money* Uses products that are $50+

Dorcas Troche: I like your videos before I even watch them. You are amazing!

ThatRayBaby13: Is there a low maintenance version? That is why I don’t style my hair that often because it is too time consuming. Maybe I need to switch up my products.

Ania Ozzy: Could you talk about perms? What are your thoughts? I absolutely love mine but entire internet seems to hate it :(

Joanne Chris: Mel’s the best! But Mel, the end of the video bloopers, I’m starting to worry about you.
