Paula Young Wig Review/ Sybil/What To Do When A Wig Doesn'T Look Like The Catalog Picture?

Hello, my posse hello, all my new subscribers. Thank you so much for coming to my living room today, uh it's sunny day out today, uh the sun is actually shining through my big window and um. I'M so happy to be here today. We'Re going to talk about - and this is just one of many but we're going to talk about catalog pictures - how they look versus how they look when you get them, and sometimes it can be a disaster because sometimes catalog pictures are not what we seem to get When we get them at home, so if you're interested in that stay tuned so yeah, i bought two wigs um uh from paula young from the cattle, the clearance section. Actually, this one here is uh from uh the wig shop, which is on clearance, and i thought oh she'd be cute for a change. Well, what the heck she was 29.99. What could possibly go wrong, and so i guess my point is like. Sometimes it can't go wrong. I'M not saying i happen to be able to kind of fix wigs a little bit to my face, and just like this wig here that i have on is paula young's, charisse and cherise. I reviewed cherise and charisse was, in the catalog very cute, very cute model. She i think the color was moonstruck. If i remember it was kind of a grayish color, very beautiful in the catalog. A lot of you ordered cherise. Most of you liked charisse. Some of you and some of the reviews have been the layer cuts were too wild and crazy for them. I i can't even imagine anything being wild and crazy for babsy, because i'm wildly crazy - and i like my hair welding, crazy, but anyway uh. What was i saying sidetracked anyway, but the point is, i guess that they look really cute in the catalog, but i i just think that i i plopped i i i i plopped tongues in the way of my eye tooth and i can't see what i'm saying Anyway, i just plop charisse on put a square hairband and i'm otd girls. I mean. I just think that her cut her style is just absolutely adorable, so uh. You know i just happen to like her. But the point is, i don't know what the point was. The point is that sometimes you can get a wig and you see them in the catalog and you go. Oh that's so cute. I think i could pull that off and then you get them and you can't so we're going to talk a little bit about this. Was one of those wigs i think, and here's how she looks in the catalog i'm gon na cover up, because i made some notes. This is how she looks sybil in the catalog. They still have sybil on the clearance rack, the clearance rack in the clearance section of the wig shop. She is 29.95, i'm not sure of all the colors that are available on her now because she's moving fast. I guess but look at the model, how cute and notice her shaped face. I think she has kind of a square jawline and, of course, she's young. They need older models, matured model, not older models. They need mature models on these catalogs, like myself, paula, youngy, listening but anyway, you know. Could you pull this off, maybe at my age of 79, but i thought well. You know i was called marlo thomas in my day and i did wear my hair like this and i thought she looks cute. She looks full so i went ahead and and splurged now you know on the clearance section you buy it's yours, but i did call paula, young and um, because when i got her i thought what the heck am. I gon na do with her and i consider myself pretty good with wigs. I thought what am i gon na do with her. I mean i still really don't know, but we're going to see together but um she said. Oh, you can still send them back. I said even on the clearance section center, when you buy them from the clearance and she's. Oh yeah, you just lose 9.95 and then you you lose your covet coverage charge. So i mean by the time you're done. You'Re lucky you'll get ten dollars credit. So why bother you know i? I can donate her. I can give her but i, but i think i can. I can work with her and you know - and i talked about in my last video wigs are about change. I mean if you want your same style of hair all the time, then i guess, if you have bio hair, keep it. I have bio hair. I could keep my own bio hair and fix it every day. I don't want to because i don't have that kind of time or patience anymore, and my own hair is really super fine, and i've mentioned before i did lose a lot of hair when i had covered um and it's still coming out. It isn't. You know like like normal, i guess since i had covered, but i think when you're aging too excuse me when you're aging too, you lose, you lose some hair. I see it on my pillow a little bit at night. It doesn't really bother me because i have wigs so, but you know um, the whole object is i got sidetracked again and i forgot, but i think the whole idea is you buy something: okay, maybe you'll get it and you'll. It won't be a lover. It won't be maybe the first wig that you gravitate to, but it's in there do something with it. There'S many styles that you can do with wigs. I mean there's many people here on youtube. Who can tell you how to do wigs, so we're going to take this out of the box that i'm going to show you when i put her on? I was like oh no babsie. This is not going to be for you, and i mean i may not gravitate to her every day but um. I think i can. I can play with her and have her look good. This particular wig symbol that i got is in the color 812 a and she is from the poly young's wig shop. So yes, 812, a is a uh she's called salted pecan, which is almost like a pecan delight, but she's got golden brown highlights and golden blonde highlights. I believe the it says in the uh description and um she's, very, very uh, pretty color. This one here is pecan delight, so this is salted pecan. I would assume it's uh cheer looks like the same thing: she's not called pecan delight, she's called salted pecan, so we'll see, but i'll try her on. She is right out of the box by the way i cut the tags off. I did try her on because i went when i tried to run, and i thought you know, but you got to remember you know that. First of all, let me just say: you've got to remember these girls are pretty youthful girls, most of them that are on these pictures. They they put wigs on according to the shape of their face. Yes, they put on all the lengths now. This particular one here weighs 4.4 ounces, which is a little heavy for polly young, but not not awful uh she's 4.5 ounces in the front, she's nine uh, nine to ten ounces on top she's ten inches uh. I say: ounces are inches inches, she's, ten inches on the crown she's seven to ten inches on the side, and that's because she's supposed to be layered, she's eight to nine in the upper back and she's nine inches at the nape. I mean you know they give you the measurements and that's good, but here's the thing with measurements. They don't mean anything unless you know your measurements on your own face to know how that is going to lay. If you have an extremely long oops, if you have an extremely long neck or a wide face, you know these cuts on here. Probably won't won't make a difference. Well i mean, let me take the bag. They will make a difference as long as you know what your shape face is like from the top of my head to my shoulder: i'm 11 inches. So i know that what i'd say the sides on here is 7 to 10 inches. So i know roughly from that point where she's going to hang on me now. If you were like longer here, she would hang on you shorter and that goes for short, wigs medium length, wings, long wigs. You have to know your size from head to your shoulder from your chin. I did it again from your forehead to your chin and your width and all my measurements are in my description box, because that is where the length of wigs when they post them is going to come into play on where they fit on you. So let me try this on and i'll show you my reaction when i first took her out of the box okay, so i just i didn't even shake her girls. I just put her on my head. I made sure all the hairs was out of the cap on the bottom that they weren't tucked up underneath, because sometimes that happened, i adjusted my ear tabs to my glasses and when i looked up and looked at myself in the mirror, i didn't see her because I think sometimes, when you try on a wig, you are visualizing subliminally that that's how you're gon na look just like. I told you about that time. I did that lady in the beauty, salon and um she sent me a. She gave me a picture of farrah fawcett and she wanted to leave there looking like farrah fawcett, and she was probably 300 pounds more than fair faucet, and she i mean she didn't, have any teeth and her husband was there and he's like he's. Looking at her. Like that and he's thinking she was gon na, he was gon na walk out of there with farrah fawcett and he didn't so. She was mad at me as a hairdresser because she didn't look like fair faucet point being tight point being is you're not gon? Na look like that picture, so this is her now. I think that you know i i mean so i think you know she didn't come out of the box like flippy like like they show there, so she required. You know she requires some um flipping on your own. The bangs aren't as sweet as that. Obviously these have been altered for the picture. You always have to remember that they are altered. I mean i don't care what they say. They do alter them. They don't take these out of the box and just do a catalog picture because they wouldn't sell any you know, so you have to do your measurements and think about how they look on you. So, let's see out of the box how she looks this is my right. This is the back. This is my left, and here i am front hello, hello. Where did you go? Did you leave me? Did you not like my wig review hello? Oh hello anyway, so i guess my point is that there's so many styles that you think when you get that you're gon na look like that picture and you're not now she is going to require let's break her up and see what we can come up with. She'S definitely a straight hair. She has some permatease on the cap. I should have showed you she's, just a standard cap with the velcro trim very comfortable cap, very nice ear, tabs really nice ear tabs. So we break up the fibers and we get. We do get some height now you can squirt her with some water. If you want so, i know right off the bat that i am going to have to trim her bangs, i'm not sure she's me i mean i can wear a lot of styles, but i don't look like she does in that picture. She'S not flipped up like it shows in the picture. She is on clearance still she's still there. I just don't think that she is what i expected and that's true. I think, with a lot of wigs that you order. They are not what you expected. So when you get one and it's on clearance, you're kind of stuck with her so like i say first thing you do is break her up. You want to squirt her with some water. You can squirt it with some water and loosen her up. You can change the direction of the part. You can cut the bangs a little bit, which you know i will have to do. So. What can you do when you get something like this? What in the world are you going to do with this? Well, i don't know, i think you can probably pin her back like so we can take a clip, so you can do a little clip in the back like so, but really she requires this. I mean to me, you know i can. I can do pretty much anything with wig. I don't think she's anything like that picture. These bangs are certainly not like that picture. She requires. She will require an awful lot of work. The shine doesn't bother me. I would have to find that area there and cut these bangs. So if i was doing this, let's try cutting the bang and see where we're at i'll do it on camera. What do i got to lose? I may not wear her so and i'm not going to sell her because it would cost me more in shipping to seller than i paid for it, so we're going to twist the bang. Let me make sure i got that bang right, we'll just keep twisting this! Bang this part up here is the part that i'm worried about. So then we'll just cut the tip and we'll pull those bangs to see. If that's enough, this is so not me. Let'S see, we might have to do a little bit more surgery on the bangs. Let'S see we'll take a little bit more i'll twist them. This is the way i cut bangs girls, and i find this to be the best way. Instead of going in there like this, you don't want to cut them straight across. You'Ve got to twist them as much as you can and you're just going to take off a little bit on the bottom, and the reason is by twisting them. When you take a little bit off the bottom and you open the you fan them out. You'Re going to get more of a shape like this you're not going to get a straight across look now, if you wanted to go in with scissors - and you know um and do one of these numbers, you know just if just to feather it out some, you Can certainly do that, but for the initial cut i always twist, so that at least gives some definition, bang kind of like that kinda take the pick out and then see this is all still bang to me and some of the styles that you get. This is what i mean seriously. This is what you get. I have had some like this, but i was able to work with them a little bit more, so we've got some long strands here. We got to get rid of, should do this in the bathroom, but a lot of you like to know how i cut my bangs and that's how i cut them. So this would be a problem, for me is a problem for me, just um, not my style, but anyway, i'm stuck with her. So here's something that i could do. I just pick her up, give her a little pompadour like so, let's see what the other side just giving you some ideas. If you get one that you know, you're stuck with just some quick ideas, always those clips up on top, where you fold that little fold on the top, that's so like 40s with that roll makes all the difference in the world she's cute. That way, so you could do she's salvageable that way. Let'S put it that way, she becomes to me she becomes. She becomes salvageable that way and by the way i'm gon na have a little fashion show for you. Maybe next week some of you have asked where my clothes come from and what i wear at my on this 79 year old body. So i'm going to do a little fashion, show for you next week and show you some of my cheap outfits but outfits that i put together. So that's a that's a style right there that you can do. Let'S see how she looks off as a profile, not bad, not bad i'll comb, her back a little bit and see yeah. So i guess my point is: is that you can take them out of the box and you can do like. I did and you can panic because you know subliminally you know, even if you like you, stare at something and you close your eyes, you'll see that image in your brain, even after you close your eyes anyway. It'S the same concept, because if you know, if you stare at that picture - and you close your eyes you're going to think that you're going to look like that picture and then you open your eyes and you don't look like it, but you see i got it. I think i got her close with just a few tweaks granted. She doesn't have clips in her hair, but with a couple of clips and a little tweaking of that, bang, you can take an ugly catalog. Well, not an ugly. You can take a picture that you see in a catalog that you think you're gon na look into something that maybe you could work with instead of panicking. I tried her on and i thought oh well, there's a 37 loss down the down the toilet. I thought. Oh, no, you know - and i don't usually get too many of those, because i can i'm blessed to be able to fix them, but i know that you have to style wigs according to your face your face shape. You always have to think about that. When you look at these catalog pictures, she has a square face. I hate to keep showing her she's going to get a lot of publicity. Hello, doris, i don't know, that's her name, but she has a square face, so these styles are put on these um. These models, according to the wigs according to the style of their face, i mean - maybe if she had like this round - face double chins or whatever. I'M not saying that that's a bad thing, but they wouldn't put that style of wig on her and obviously they don't do much for more matured women on there which they should. But you know this is just an idea of what you can do with her. I actually kind of like now see there again like i did on my last wig review. You probably looked at her and went. Oh my god. That'S so not you now you're talking to me you're, seeing my personality in me talking with my hands and now a couple of clips, two clips. That'S all i did. I haven't done anything to her uh and you can see that she's she's a lot better and on those two clips, while she's in there. You probably could take it now and and put her back in a clip like so so being back like that with clips. In the hair doesn't give you so much of this hair on the side, and you can always play with this. If you wanted a piece down, oh that's, cute babsy keep working it girlfriend. You could always just do that, but the clip a little tighter and there you have a cute style. You got rid of all this hair on the top that you didn't know what to do with. So you know clips. Are i'm telling you girls? I can't tell you enough: clips are your best friend. I think you can do just about anything with clips. You can flatten her. You can pull her up like this. You can do so much with clips. I think it's uh. These are just a must-have. These i said in bobby pins are, are just a must-have in your wardrobe, so i hope this helped and i'm just i'm trying to show you that when you get a wig, sometimes try not to panic. Sometimes you can send them back. You know there's there's gals on here that have told me, oh since you did that last video i took out my wigs that i've had in the closet and i'm gon na work with them and and they've worked with them and they've discovered that yeah. There is something that you can do with them, but remember: first, do your research look at the look at the um measurements now you know the measurements only are important if those measurements fit your shape face. If you get something, that's really short on their like three inch length or you like pixies or you like this. But if you have this really long face or a long neck, you're going to see all your sides and your sideburns and you know, places that the wig is not going to fit right because of the length of your measurements. Not so much. The wig itself is bad, but it's bad for your measurements and that's the thing. I think you got to look at color wise, and this is a beautiful, color uh. If you're like dark, you want to go a little lighter, but you're afraid to go too light. This salted uh pecan, i'm pretty sure this is pecan delight. I'M pretty sure. I don't know why. Maybe the wig shop calls it calls it salted peanut, because it's the wig shop, i don't know, but i think really and truly looking at her. I don't see. Maybe a little flip here, i think as she's laying here, we can get her flipped up a little bit. You can probably put a little uh get a brush there. We go a warm brush or a warm hot roller and flip her up like so so that was a disaster and i think we made her good. So i love the color here. She is outside real, quick, she's shiny, but that's okay, she's, a beautiful color love. This color um, i think the length is cute. You know i do like the longer lengths on me now that i'm older, i don't know why. I'M going back to the way i was in my 20s. I guess i don't know, i'm not trying to be 20 by any means, i'm not i'm embracing my age, i'm embracing you know maturity and i'm i'm blessed. You are all blessed to live in this day and age of today, where we as matured women, are not invisible. We have a purpose and we can do anything we want. We can go out looking any way we want and nobody's gon na go like what is that, because they'll just look at us like, oh she's, pretty cool, look at her. You know we can be anything we want do anything we want. We don't have to be like our grandmas and our great-grandmother. Mom'S great-grandmas were and and be fit into a stereotype category. Like we're supposed to look - and i said that on my last video - so don't be afraid to you - know, try something like this. Sybil is still available, she's still available in this color. If you think, maybe that you can um play with her like this, i showed you how to cut her bang. You see how nicely those bangs lay on my forehead by twisting them when you twist them and you let them go. If you take the scissors and you cut straight across you're, going to end up - and i've said this before nothing against mamie eisenhower. But you know how years ago everybody used to say you got baby eisenhower, banks yeah. I know they were just one little roller and they were like this. You don't want that. So i think um we might have turned a disaster into not so bad and i think you need to give it a chance before you send them back, because you do lose money when you send them back and if there's anything that you can do with them. Clips uh: oh my gosh square, hair bands. I mean these. These got to be your best friend. When you have a you, have a wig on, i mean oops. Let'S see, you can probably uh put this back right here with bobby pins and put a bobby pin in so we took the clips out, so the clips didn't show, but you can just pin that up like that, with a bobby pin and put a square hair Band on you still have a little style here, where it's gives you a little oomph and a little um a little more. I guess of i don't know so it's not so straight back and a square hair band works perfectly now: let's try it without the pins, because we're working with a lot of hair on this wig a lot of hair. That'S like unmanageable to me on the top um i mean when you when you put her down. That'S that's not a good look. So if we just tried a square hair band - okay on the top like, so you got rid of the bulk on the top of your head, this will fall over a little bit because she has an absorbent amount of hair on the top. That'S just in this direction that to me i i couldn't stand that hair in front of my face, but just with a square hair band on and nothing else and cutting her bangs to me i mean you may not like bangs. If you like, a wispier bang, you could probably make this longer and have a wispy bang or a side bang if you like. I don't know about parting her in the middle like. So if that's, if you like the drape, look well sorry if i bursted your bubble on that, but you could do that. So that is her. So i think we took a picture that to me didn't look anything like the catalog to me a little bit, maybe but a little bit of playing. Look what we did to her. So thanks for coming. I can pull this off color wise. I can pull a lot of colors off there's a lot of reds that i can't because i'm olives, so i have to watch those orangey reds and i'm not one for gray hair. That'S just me. This girl here is probably maybe 27 years old. I think she pulls off gray hair nicely. Maybe you, like gray, hair, that's fine! She comes in that beautiful color. You can get her in gray. I think for somebody that would be a beautiful color for you. If you love your gray hair and i know seal, you love your gray hair, i'm not trying to talk you into getting anything different seal because she told me so anyway, this is sybil and if you like her hurry up to the wig shop because i'm sure She'Ll be selling out soon, just like my mariah, i think i bought she's super super long, very long wig. For me, i bought her in butter toast i bought it from the clearance section too she's now discontinued. I will wear her one day when i do my next video i'll put her on i'm not going to review her um, but there's a lot of people on here who review mariah. If you see her on - and i think the thing too, when you see things on clearance - and you see me review them or somebody else and you go shoot, they're gone, keep a lookout because there are creators who are selling them. Ebay sells them. Uh amazon has wigs that have been discontinued or out of clearance. I think they maybe buy them by the bulk somebody and they'll you'll find them on amazon or ebay or one of those sites. You know uh that had that people sell things. At least you know what they look like, don't be afraid to buy them, sometimes they're 10 15 and don't be afraid to buy them. You may not be able to get them from paula, young or whatever, but you'll be able to still purchase them. So i hope that helped you i'm always here to help girls. That'S what i do.
