It'S your man alex before we get into this video, make sure you guys leave a like and subscribe if you're new to my channel in this video, i'm going to be showing you guys how to cut your own hair at a medium hair length right now, i'm Going to show you a 360 of before so you can see the difference once i finish the haircut, i have pretty thick hair and, as you can see, the top gets very wavy, so i'm going to trim the ends of my hair, so they don't wrap around Each other creating such a strong wave before we get started with the haircut. I want to share with all of you the tools i'll be using to start i'll, be using my wall. Super taper, 2 clippers. These run at about 70 dollars, followed by two duck clips. My duck clips came with the clippers when i bought them, like i said i'll, be keeping some hair on the sides, as i'm not going for the skin fade. Look in this video so for the guards i'll be using the number two number three and the number four guard. You always need a neck duster to keep yourself clean and itchy free throughout the haircut. I also use the neck duster to clean off all of my tools. Here is my wall beard trimmer. This thing is pretty sweet and, lastly, i'll be using some hair cutting shears, thinning, shears and a comb. If anyone is interested, i will leave links to all of the tools in the description below starting off with the number two guard lever closed, i'm going to go up about one inch on the side of my head and then have a slight downward angle. As i transition into the back of my head, you really want to make sure that your initial guideline is straight, so you can shorten the process and make fading your hair a lot easier. And, of course you want to do the exact same thing. On the other side, go up about one inch on the side and create a slight downward angle. Transitioning into the back of your head make sure you guys adjust your mirrors accordingly to avoid cutting off the length with my clippers, i'm going to use my duck clips to hold my hair up now using the number three guard lever closed, go up about half an Inch all around your head from your initial guideline, which was that number two guard lever closed, keep adjusting your mirrors. If you cannot see the back of your head, remember, do the exact same thing on the other side, go up about half an inch from that initial guideline and you guys should be doing pretty well so using the number two guard lever open, you're going to take Out that hard line that you created between, where you cut using the number two and number three guard make sure you guys are flicking up and away from your head to really create a smooth fade same old same old. Make sure you guys do the exact same thing on the other side of your head now, with the number four guard lever closed, we're gon na go up about half an inch to one inch to start cutting off a lot of that bulk on the sides by The part line do this all around your head as well, and don't forget, make sure you guys follow me on instagram as well, at alex korras now for one of the biggest parts to any haircut. In my opinion, using your thinning shears in a comb comb, your hair down to straighten it and then use scissor over comb technique to pull the hair away from your scalp and cut the hair with the shears. This is one of the best ways to create a smooth blend throughout your hair. I like to go through all of my work with the thinning shears, starting with the thinning shear around my initial guideline. All the way up to the bulk by the part line. Do the exact same thing on both sides make sure you guys adjust the mirrors if you need to so right here, i'm just blending in my beard to the length on the sides using the number two guard closed now using your trimmers. You want to start doing the detail. Work using the edge of your trimmer, follow the contour of your ear and cut any long or loose hairs that may be sticking out. This part can be tricky, but if you can keep a steady hand, you should be fine turn your trimmers sideways and push down and away from the hair to create a straight line on the back of your head. The key here is to recognize the contour of your head and trim off the excess to give yourself a crispy, clean lineup, make sure you guys do the exact same thing on the other side. Now, if you think you can't do the bottom of your head, definitely ask a friend or family member if they can do it for you. You do not want to make a mistake in this area. That'S for sure, instinct! Oh, this haircut is looking super clean. So far, now that we are done with the sides and back of our head, we can get started with the top make sure you guys wet your hair 100 and then wring it out. So there's no water dripping. Then you want to comb all of your hair straight down, so we can begin cutting with our shears. Like i said in the beginning of this video for this particular haircut, i do not want to cut any of the length off i'm going to trim all around. My head by cutting off about half an inch just to trim off the edges of my hair and even everything out now, because i didn't cut as much hair on the left side of my head in my previous haircut. The left side is a little bit heavy and the hairs are a bit longer. I did this mainly because my hair was shorter and in order to achieve my style that i was going for, i needed one side to be a little bit longer, but for this haircut i want to make sure that the entire top of my head is even From left middle and right sections so i'll be cutting around one inch off of the left side instead of one half, so some tips i can give you guys for cutting the length on top is to make sure you work in sections. So typically, i work in three sections, starting from the back then going to the middle and then finishing off in the front. I always like to start my haircut in the back sections. Make sure you use your comb to create a straight line on your head before pulling up the next section of your hair? Also, i always like to double check my work and pull the hairs more so to the front of the section backward and use those guidelines to cut the hair in the back of the top of my head instinct and gotcha. Oh, he thought he had it, but i got him: let's go. Keep it going. Another trick i like to use is to comb all of my hair up from the side and cut on a 45 degree angle, leaving the back shorter and the top longer to create a smooth transition in your hair instinct tuesdays. So right here, i'm just double. Checking all of my work pulling my hair from side to side and front to back cutting off any stray long hairs that i may have missed previously instinct. If you guys, like this, beat check out my man instincts channel here on youtube i'll leave the link to his channel in the description as well - and i know many of you watching right now - probably think i'm a barber or a stylist. But that could not be anything further from the truth. I see it all the time in the comments section, but no i'm just a normal dude that has a passion for cutting hair and has been doing so for just about 10 years now and we're pretty much done with the haircut. The sides are nice and tight. Like a toy and the top looks very classy, and you can't forget how clean that fade is we got a really smooth fade thanks to those thinning shears, and if you like it, please give it a thumbs up subscribe if you're new to my channel. I hope you guys enjoyed this video i'll catch you in the next one peace.

Alex Kouras: Private Livestreams & Self-Haircut Course (Save Your Time & Money): https://alexkouras.com I hope you enjoyed the video! Comment below what you want to see next. Let's hit 100K subs!

mr T: Tried this cut today. Bought some clippers on line and followed your steps. Took me 3 hours for first attempt but I am really pleased with it. Feel fresh and considering it’s my first ever go with clippers I am proud of my cut. Thanks Alex

guitardude28: Finally! A video where it’s not a skin fade. Been looking for a longer faded style cut. Awesome job man

Theo Door: As someone with 0 experience holding clippers and pretty bad with a comb, let me give you some tips after attempting a self haircut: 1. The clippers felt super clunky in my hand and I struggled making that first line. Practice the motions first for everything 2. Go one level higher than what you want. If you're new like me, you are probably struggling every step of the way. Practicing with longer guards will let you fix mistakes and you can go back after getting the hang of it. 3. Be patient. Expect the haircut to take a while and don't rush it. No one is a pro on their first try. 4. No shame in asking for help in the back. It's way harder to using a mirror to see the back of your head than it seems. You'll build muscle memory over time but if you are like me, you will be there fumbling for a while. 5. Don't be afraid of failure. Your first haircut won't go exactly as planned. You'll get better with each attempt. My cut honestly wasn't bad. Could use some work making the fade cleaner and I definitely need to get used to looking at head with 2 mirrors. Will definetely do this again and feel much more prepared for next time.

Izzy D: I FINALLY gave my boyfriend a decent haircut thanks to this video! You literally explained it so much better than they do at the cosmetology school I go to

ST MARK: I'm a Licensed hairstylist. When he pulled out those BLENDING SHEARS and did it to his hair - I almost fell out of my chair. Also, LINING up the back is pretty hard if youre doing it to your own head. He got SKILLS. RESPECT.

evildraven79: Thank you for doing this video. I usually get my hair cut every 10 days and it’s been 3 weeks. I couldn’t take it anymore! I was about to just shave it all off. Easiest instructions for people who have to do it themselves without doing a skin fade.

taxol2: You’re amazing being able to do this. I just trimmed mine using scissors. It turns out a lot better than expected. When I start to trim mine, I was like “90% of the time I’ll be at home, and when I have to go out I have my baseball cap to the rescue” if my hair trimming turned ugly

alan2a1l: I've seen over a dozen of these "How to Cut Your Own Hair" videos, from both pros and amateurs. This is probably the clearest, most systematic, best over all. I wish I'd seen it first, but hair grows back! :-) Your use of comb and shears (and thinning shears) is the most helpful, because your video really shows the concept of a "guide" -- the previously cut shorter hairs vs the longer ones that stand out -- better than all the other videos I've seen; even from the pros. They kind of take it for granted, maybe they're talking to other barbers/stylists, but that's crucial and you nailed it. Thanks!

pachipro72: Great video, Alex! I cut my hair for the first time by myself - and it worked! Amazing. I also cut my fingers twice, but who cares :-) Thanks to you, I will cut my hair by myself for a while. Cheers, D.

Obed Diaz: Man that is an amazing haircut. Thanks for letting me know you’re not a barber but I love the passion you have. You did an absolutely excellent job

T G Rental: I feel like this dude’s become my best friend in this quarantine. I’ve already cut my own hair and now I just watch his videos because he’s impressive AF.

TheBackUpView: Thanks for making this video at this time. Sure comes in handy when practically everybody’s on lockdown. Will definitely consider all pointers you mentioned, i hope theres a way to share with you my own haircut end rusult! Hahaha!

Ken C: This is the best tutorial I've found yet! Just started cutting my own and have been watching videos. Wish I had found this one first. Great job!

Chris: Thanks for your videos Alex. I've given myself at least a dozen haircuts since lockdown, having seen this video. I feel comfortable cutting my own hair, to the point I won't be returning to the barbers. Thanks again

Xavy’s Garage: So I cut my own hair today... I was actually really impressed how it came out, basically the same haircut you did in this video. Only thing, I had some trouble with the edging trimmer trying to edge the back... ended up doing it with the straight razor, it was easier for me

alberto marquez: Hi Alex!, as promised I cut my hair on my own today again (second attempt after 3 wks from previous one), this time I followed your technicque ... I made it!!! I'm really happy and glad with the result. Thank you very much, I will keep cutting my hair on my own, and of course looking forwsrd for more vidoes ... you got a follower and fan. Greetings!

Samuel Guimarães: Damn, you're my quarantine life-saver I've been following some other channels but the whole close, halfway and an open guard is always confusing. Thanks for showing in your machine the guard position! Besides, it's always nicer to have narration over the video than machine noise Keep on the good work! Greetings from Berlin

Tommy Lane: Excellent tutorial. Great looking haircut. I wish I had as much hair as you do. You make it look easy. I have Wahl hair clippers. Never used. Now, I need the rest of the stuff: scissors, combs, mirrors, etc. Thanks.

Patricia Fallis: great tutorial very clear and easy to follow

Michael C: Thanks so much man for this video. My hair turned out really cool. Overall I''m so happy,....I've few things to learn though( i.e.the scissors is so hard)... but honestly your tutorial kicks ass. Lots of love from Ireland!!

D N: For my first cut, I did ok on the sides, but the back and trying to set up mirror was tricky. After more practice, I am sure my cut will be a lot better!!

1234waveskier: Great job, you made that look so easy!

Tony: small tip when cutting your hair when it's wet. Don't cut it too short because when your hair dries it will be shorter. Wet hair stretches some. When you are done there is no harm in washing it and then dry. It might settle differently and you'll get a second take and see what might need to be trimmed a little more.

zameel irfan: Love from India, I haven't visited Barber shop since 2020 March, followed this hair cut guidelines and results came out great. Many Thanks. This was one of skill I have developed cutting own hair

bluerider 098: Thanks for the video. Cut my own hair for the first time and it turned out good thanks to your videos and a few others I watched. Appreciate it.

Bonnie Hoke-Scedrov: Thank you so much for this informative video! I got so much out of it.

Gergő Sulyok: Hi Alex. I'm watching your videos from Spain and now, during the lockdown, I have to say, they are incredibly helpful, especially because you make tutorials for various hairstyles. As I am in Europe, I'm unfortunately unable to order those items you recommend below the videos. I tried to look up the same stuff in Spanish/EU Amazon, partly succesfully (many things are out of stock). If you could make some recommendations from EU market, please, because I have no clue if the cheapest chinese scissors will do the job or it's important to have proper ones and it's worth it to invest a bit more money in it for a casual user?

Mike Yap: You did this video very well, Alex! Thank you for sharing.

Ali Alrashidi: Dude I have the same hair, I cut my hair the same exact length same exact guards. The only difference is I have 2 splits while you part your hair in one place. Great job man. Thank you for the video and for finally finding some one with the exact thick hair Oh I forgot ,I usually cut my hair the opposite direction. I start from the top with scissors (no sheers) , the guard 13mm, then 10mm and finally 6mm. Your look better because you fade (I don't - lazy). I shall start fading aka taper, and I shall use sheers. Thanks Tip: jason dandruff relief , use only a dap the size of a quarter. It really works. Cost about $7 and this one bottle should last you a life time. Just use it once a week until dandruff is gone.

Lillian Lum: That was a great hair cut. Better than any I see so far. Will try it on my husband. Thanks.!

Mike Sleem: Not gonna lie your self cut tutorials are the best I've seen on YouTube. Instantly subscribed after your skin fade you did a month ago. Keep up the great work brotha! Also I am going to try this on my son's hair first... a little practice before I attempt it on my own

Chisei: Absolutely awesome video. You're my hairdo savior of these harsh times.

Ben López: Such a great job man! Glad I found this video, you got great skills and we have the same type of hair!

Mike Hauck: What an amazing job man, looks great! Wish you could cut mine it's so long.

David Wheeler: What a guy! Just done my first lockdown haircut having seen your video.....have actually had worse cuts I've paid for. Thank you!

David RC: SUCCESS!!! Boy did I need a real haircut! I watched this many times...... bought the right equipment....... POW! I finally did it today....!!! Compliments galore... It turned out really good! Thanks!!!

Noralynn James: This is the only video that makes sense to me. My dad and brother are in need of a haircut and with this tutorial I think I have to confidence in trying it out on them thank you!

yousef halakoo: Hi Alex, I really like your way of cutting your hair, especially in this video you did for medium size hair .. I follow your videos and thank you very much

Bryan Thompson: Very good tutorial and really helpful. Are there any good reviews of the best clippers to use for doing self haircuts?

aa cc: Seriously that's a really nice haircut. Love the blending

Gabriel Tayag: Any thoughts on fading down (starting with the biggest guard and working to the smallest one)? A friend who cuts his own hair suggested it, saying there’s less room for error (like accidentally making the starting line too high).

Mario Santizo: Excellent hair cutting system !!! Congratulations, thank you !!!

Alexander Salazar: Soooo, I obsessed over your video Alex. Also, my name is Alex too, but I go by Alexander! I watched your video so many times and at one point took notes to help me remember your process. I can't tell you how distraught I was about cutting my own hair. But it was getting to the point where it had to be done, especially since we're all on lock down. Well, I'm happy to report that my very first ever self haircut was not tragic!! I even braved giving myself a hard part! I'm happy with the results for the most part, and it's all thanks to you my man! Thank you for the thorough how to video. I'm feelin good!

John Smith: Wow your hair looks super easy to cut. My hair is lighter and falls. It's also currently MUCH longer than yours and I'm not sure where to start. I also don't want it as short as where you STARTED! LOL. So as helpful as your video appears to be, maybe I should find someone with hair/length closer to mine. Thanks.

Stephen Trinh: You have the best video out there and I will follow your method. If I will make a mistake, coronavirus will keep me at home for a while until my hair get longer and I will give it another try lol. Thank you, Alex!

Fred S.: thanks man! It really helps that my hair is similar to yours, mine is a bit curlier but also thick

michael: Hi Alex, I like this style of cut. Not too short. I don't think I could cut my own hair like you do. Do you recommend a flowbee or something comparable to achieve something like this?

Je MaX: One of the BEST walk through vids on youtube Thanks dear now ill have to wait for my hair to grow to be able to follow ur instructions

Paul Klenk: I am VERY impressed, Alex! Can you or your viewers recommend a self-haircut tutorial for very fine, very straight hair? — a first-timer

Robin: Absolutely brilliant, well done!

Junior Neves: Show de bola !!! ✂️✂️✂️✌✌✌

Craig Nicholls: Great video Alex, really helpful. Enjoy your day.

Takbir Arefin: Excellent job. Wasted literally an hour before catching up to your guide. Thanks man!!!

wingwmn217: This is probably the best self haircut vid I’ve watched! Thanks for sharing :)

MJ1980NL: Thanks bro, because of your vids i tried it myself with lesser equipement but still looked great. Did 2 more people and they were saying i could always become a barber i was so scared and the first time i was busy for over an hour or so because i didnt wanted to shave it up to high etc. It even looks better then when i go to the barber maybe the back isnt as good because a trained barber knows what hes doing and has a better vieuw. But its so awesome. My colleagues all said they wanted to pay me to do them as well but because of the corona i dont wanna get to close to all of them.

JohnnyRetro: Definitely one of the better tutorials on the tube, great job

vrbharath4: Very useful during the quarantine period. Q: My clipper doesn't have the lever on the side. Will the blending shears alone do the trick? Or do I need to do something else as well? Don't tell me to buy a clipper with the lever, lol :)

Dietmar Stapelfeld: Great instructional Video - love that you are short and concise....

PK: Those blending shears make a huge difference. Thumbs up.

lyon rambo: Fantastic love it thanks men exactly what i needed.

Keith Mac: Very nice video. I've been going to a stylist twice a month spending $120/month. Over the last few months, my husband asked me to do his (I always groom the dogs ; ) Then decided, with unemployment, to do my own. NO one noticed the difference! So, I'm putting that $120/month in my pocket and going to invest in better equipment. Saving time and money... although, the clean up in the bathroom is a pain as my Sicilian hair goes everywhere and sticks like napalm. Thanks again!

Khalil Boss: Can you show us the whole mirror setup and lighting and everything? I think this part matters too

VlogTheory: Guys don’t go all the way up with the #4 guard. You need to keep bulk at the back so the back of your head doesn’t look so flat from the side. You wanna carry the fade to occipital bone and then blend with the shears

Ab Parry: Just tried this on myself and got to say it turned out damn good

Jess: This really helps me out. I always cut my older brothers hair but know NOTHING about cutting hair lol always just wing it.. so thank you!!

Adam 228133: Alex, quick question. I noticed you use a closed clipper lever when make your initial guideline and use an open clipper lever when blending/fading in between your guidelines. Shouldn’t this be the opposite? That is, shouldn’t you be making your guidelines with an open lever and blending in between the guidelines with a closed lever? If you are doing a taper haircut on the sides and back of your head as in your video, you want your hair length shortest at the bottom of your head to gradually longer the higher you go up your head. A closed clipper lever cuts more hair than an open lever. If you start your guidelines with a closed lever, you can’t blend in between your guidelines because the hair length will be shorter at the top of the guidelines.

Tom Middelburg: Great cut. Did you ever used clipper sizes above number 4 (1/2 inch)? What is your opinion on this?

Baylie Kristensen: I'm a hairstylist And yes ur sections are great and but maybe for beginners it's easier to get all one length haircuts But instead of working one side to the other. Start with a middle section then both sides will match the middle. Some people tend to tilt there hand without noticing ik I did ans that in the beginning

Carlos De La Ossa: Thanks dude! It really worked for me.

Yass B: All the way from London, thank you! That diagonal blending is a great technique! Cheers _________________

Anton Boludo: Great video. Well done. Many thanks! I have a Wahl kit but it does not include the trimmer. Also I cannot use the comb and scissor technique on the back of my head because I need one hand to hold a small mirror.

Pascal Salou: Très franchement tu as vraiment assuré Excellente coupe de cheveux bravo Pour le résultat

Ali Asad: Cut my hair today from the sides, took me 4 hours as I almost messed it up and then my trimmer (battery powered) started to die on me. Overall satisfied with the result as I have to go office even in this half lockdown so I have to look sharp.

LYMYCYG: Keep the good work man, nice tutorial

slicvm: The dislikes are from others that don’t have such glorious hairline.

Mark Street: I'm gonna give it a go. My mom is a Hair Sylist and has always cut my hair. With the COVID, I'm trying to be careful with social distancing, so she won't be doing it for the fist time. This is really going to be scary. I am very particular with my hair. I cannot mess this up. I am going to buy the same exact tools tools you have and watch your video a few more times. Your hair turned out great. Thanks for the video.

DL Thomas: Another good video, Alex! Keep ‘em coming!

Photo Opp: "He's gotta be a barber for a living" - HAHAHA, I'll admit it - I said it. Thanks for the vids (new subscriber) but the tips on cutting hair are really helpful.

Travis Damme: Definitely upped my self-haircut game after watching this.

thomas frapa: Hey mate, your haircuts are looking super sharp! Do you have some tips for guys who doesn't have a clipper equipped with a liver system in order to be able to rock a haircut in the style of the one in this video?? Thx for ur work mate! Peace

Jose Luis Adrias: Hi. I just want to ask if you can also cut your whole sides and back first using the #4 guard first then the #3 and #2 going down. Will it make a difference? Great tutorial, btw. Thanks and greetings from the Philippines.

Million Seeker: You go the extra mile, by doing a voice over , instead of just using subtitles thats why i subbed

S. S. Rao Educare: Thank you alex. Your hair cut tutorial helped me to cut my brother's hair. I am also going to try after my hair have sufficient growth. I request you to do a video with newly launched Phillips 3505 clipper.

Food Tech Life: @5:55 When the tutorial jumps from beginner to advanced mode. :)

remaerD: Good quality shit bro! Giving me the confidence to attempt cutting my hair soon lol

Andy Martinez: I like how u explain so simple thanks for the video

Lee Porter: Great Job Alex. You are most talented. Do some videos cutting other people's hair (friends, etc) as you've certainly got the knack. Thanks.

Hashim Jamal: For me this is the best self hair cutting video sofar ..During Lock down, Tried some other videos but never satisfied..until seeing your skin fade but I skipped number 1 guard and got a medium cut like this..However fiIn nding this today, I realised I was right..My way Thinning sheers were not used Instead used the comb and clipper without guard and clearing top of head within minutes perfectly ..Thank you so very much for the idea of guidelines..

Thomas A: Great video. Thank you!

JimmyG3237: Great job!!! I wish I had hair like yours!! Super jealous bro!

M H: Thank you for your services to humanity at this chaotic time ✊ Much Appreciated

it's me: Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Excellent video.

Osman Salih: I tried it. Looks like my lockdown just got extended

WGV: I wish my hair was that thick and full. This guy really knows what he’s doing. Too bad he’s not my hairdresser.

Storm Nation: The best haircut guide you can get Q: When did you cut your hair for the first time?

Jeff UK: The best self haircut I have ever seen by far

texashookdude99: he's got a lot of practice using his equipment you can tell by the way he uses the clippers - great tutorial ... now wait several months for Amazon to re-stock all the hair clippers so I can order mine

Robbie T: Watching this at 4:18 London UK time. Alex, your awesome thanks man. What a talent

kelseymj1975: This may sound like a dumb question but can anyone tell me what's the difference between open and closed with the clipper adjustments? which cuts shorter and by how much? I use a beard trimmer with multiple adjustments but it just goes by mm, so I have to do the conversion. I'm assuming closed is slightly longer.
