#howtocutyourownhair #diyhaircut

Hello, everyone welcome or welcome back to my channel, i'm ariel and today i'm doing a diy haircut. I have a few of these videos on my channel, but i asked you guys a while ago, like a few months back, if you would want like more of a livestyle haircut, video and a lot of you actually said. Yes, that you wanted to see that, so that is what we're going to be doing today, i'm going to try to make this like as live as i can um, but i'm also going to put a like time code somewhere on the screen here, so that you Guys can see how long it's taking to cut my hair, even if i do need to do like a few cuts here and there. So that is the plan for today, i'm so ready for a haircut. It has been months. I am so overdue for a haircut. So very excited to do this video. I hope you guys enjoy it now, let's get into it, so quick shot of what i'm, starting with the before my hair, is clean. Obviously i just finished straightening it and i washed it yesterday. So i have a nice clean slate to work on, which is very important, and i am thinking i want to change my haircut just a little bit like i said it has been quite a few months since the last time i cut it, so it has grown, But obviously i have to make sure i'm still cutting it. That'S very important so anyway, i'm talking a lot here, so my plan is to cut some like curtain bangs, something like that. I just feel like right now. These bangs are just not really doing anything. For me, i feel like it'd be better if they were longer or they need to be shorter and, like obviously, i can't make them longer instantly. So i think i'm just going to cut them a little bit make them more of a curtain. Bang action, then i'm going to follow it with some face framing, which i kind of already have, but i do want to change that a little bit i kind of want it to be more like choppy. I don't know if that makes sense, that's going to be a little bit different from what it is now um and then off at the bottom, i'll just take a little bit off the length whatever like needs to go. Obviously i mean look at some of these ends like this is a mess, so i'm gon na get in there and see how much length really needs to come off and just go from there but yeah. Let me stop talking and actually get to it. So the first thing i'm going to do is section my hair. I have my trusty croc clips here, so i feel like now, i'm going to start the timer because i've just been talking, but now i'm actually starting. So i'm taking a section just kind of behind my ears and then clipping it up and then i always split it right in the middle at the back and that would be perfect now i can work from the front, so i don't have to reach behind, because That would be nearly impossible on myself. Then i'm going to take my scissors. I got some new scissors, you guys. I got these on amazon. I will try to link them. If i can, i should be able to um so far i'm really liking them. I do like my other scissors better, i think, but they were just really dull and i didn't have anybody to sharpen them. So i was like, let me just get a new a new pair and we're cheap, so whatever it works, so i'm taking my nice sharp scissors and just combing all this hair forward. I mean, i feel, like you guys, kind of already know the drill by now like i have so many hair, tutorials or haircut tutorials on my channel already, but everyone is like slightly different but yeah, so obviously just keeping my head straight, i'm looking in the mirror. Now and i'm going to start on the side, that's shorter and just cut it off. I'M gon na go with about an inch. That seems like a good amount. Oh, so that's the best feeling just brush that onto the floor. Oh that's so much better yeah! So now i'm going to do the same thing on this side. It'S a little bit more off of the side. This side is always longer. I don't know why it just like grows longer. I guess or goes faster um but yeah. That is the first cut. Oh, my goodness, you guys so much better, oh yeah! I think that looks good. Now, i'm just going to brush this all or comb this all to the back and comb it straight out. First and then this is where i can get rid of any pieces in the middle that are a bit longer, because i did over direct this hair to the front. So usually i get a little bit of like a triangle happening in the middle, so i just kind of sniff that off and even it out and then i drop back down and now we should be even - and this first cut is always really important, because this Is the guide which i've said numerous times, but this is basically the the piece that we're going to now follow and like use as a guide for the length. So we want to make sure this first cut is really good, but so far i think i think that feels good, so i can move on to the next section i feel like you guys need to be closer. Let me move you in. Is this too close? Okay, so now i'm going to take another section just a little bit above my ear kind of like around my temples clip it up, i feel, like you guys, are maybe like up to still see what i'm doing so again. Oh, i have a gray hair, put it in the middle, pull it to the front comb it and then yeah see this side there's like not even any extra hair to go off of this side, but this side there is a little bit so combing. This hair forward, i'm combing from underneath, i feel like that's just easier to like get all the hair and then i'm combing straight down and then there you guys, can see my guide underneath and then this is all the hair that i need to cut off. So there we go and then i like to also do it from the side too, because, like that, i don't know if you guys can see that that little bit i got left out and then even going all the way from the side to like my shoulder. Wow, my hair has grown so much from my last haircut, that is creamy and then, if there's any like on the side, i'll just kind of freehand make sure i have like a nice clean line on the side. That way, if you flip your hair, it's still gon na be straight. It'S not only straight like this and then just do that same thing on this side, even though i really don't think there's any hair take out all over here, that's crazy! There'S a little bit a few little stranglers. This really doesn't take me that long though, like i feel, like i kind of mentioned, that in my last one um it takes like, i feel like it takes like 20 minutes. Usually i mean i am filming today, so it might take a little bit longer, but it takes anywhere from like 15 to like 45 minutes. Maybe um 45 would be kind of long though, but i do feel like this time might be a little bit longer, just because i am kind of doing more like bangs, and i am changing my haircut a little bit. So if it was more of just like a tiny little trim on the ends, it would be a little bit faster but yeah. So i don't think there'll be anything to cut off of this top layer, because i do still have like some old layers in my hair. You guys can see that's the shortest one there um so yeah, i don't think there'll be anything to cut off but i'll, maybe just comb it to my shoulder and just make sure it looks good. And then i will check on the back as well and i do a lot of free handing you guys like i feel like you. Don'T really need to be afraid of, like just going in and like doing something that doesn't feel like right, technically um. But you do also have to be careful not to you know, take too much length off or put a chunk in your hair without realizing, but it is okay to just freehand and like kind of eyeball it. It doesn't always have to be like perfect sections and perfectly like in line with your fingers, like you, don't have to worry too much about it. I feel like i honestly get better results when i'm not as like worried about perfect sections and um stuff, like that. So so now, oh, my goodness, look at how much better this is. Oh my hair needed! That'S so bad! So now i'm going to make sure that this uh lines up like the two sides again ignoring that piece, that's clearly shorter. I think we're pretty good. I'M gon na think i feel like maybe the left side could use a bit more just a tiny bit. I think that's a little better! Okay! Now i'm gon na actually move you guys back out for now. Um now, i'm just gon na do the back. The same thing i did on that first section: i kind of forgot for the other section so i'll just do it all together. Now i'll pull it straight out, and this would have been easier before honestly, but just try not to take too much now. I'M kind of kind of into it now because i want to make sure i'm not putting any big chunks in there it's better. If it's a little bit softer as long as it um wait, i don't want to cut it too short. What i'm trying to say so that should be good. Now i have like a bunch of loose hair on me, okay, so now what i'm going to do now, i'm going to do probably layers. I do want to keep my layers kind of around the length that they are, but, of course they will need to be trimmed as well. I mean look at this. Clearly, there's some split ends there. They could use a trim just like the rest of my hair. So i will cut some off of them, but i do want to keep in mind that i'm trying to keep my layers long. I don't want to necessarily cut them a lot shorter. I did a little bit of like an off to the side part. I usually cut it with a middle part, but i feel like um. It just looks a little bit better on me to have like a little bit of a side part. So i'm going to keep it there, and so i'm going to take this part all the way to the top of my head called the apex and i feel like maybe you guys need to be higher now. Okay, so i have my part all the way to the back and i'm gon na take. Actually, i should start on the side with less hair, so i'm gon na take a section, probably like half an inch, maybe an inch actually an inch um brought like the same, the same line as the part just half an inch over or an inch over. If that makes sense, and then i'm gon na i'm actually gon na do that on both sides and then i'm going to pull it straight up from where my part is, which is right in the middle of these two sections. So now i can see all those little hairs that need to be cut off, so i'm gon na go on a diagonal now and that will make sure i'm still keeping a nice soft line, not cutting it too harsh at all. These layers will still be nice and feathered and they will lay softly, won't be too harsh, and so that is basically the equivalent of that first guide layer that we did down here for the perimeter of my hair, that's basically the equivalent for layers, so that just Made a guide, and now, if i refine my part, i should have two pieces on each side that i can now they'll be even, and i can now blend the rest of my layers through to the ends of my hair. Hopefully that makes sense, so i'm gon na do that, so i'm gon na start on the side with less hair, i'm just taking vertical sections here. I'M gon na take all this hair and pull it kind of. I'M not sure what angle this is, but this is really hard to like get all this in and then i'm just cutting i'm basically blending this piece to this piece. If you guys can see so it's really not a lot of hair coming off. But again, that's how i want it. I don't want to take too much length off of my layers, just kind of cleaning them up more than anything. So i'm going kind of what angle is this? Am i going up to a 90 degree? I feel like i'm forgetting my like hair styling terms, hairstyling lingo, so this one actually has a lot more. You can see like this is the end of my hair, and this is the top of the layer. So i want to blend those two together. So this one has like an inch and a half coming off, but it's really just like wispy stuff: it's not it's nothing crazy, and so i'm just going along. I haven't done this part of my haircut in a while. Actually, i've been trying to kind of grow out my layers um, but i still do think um layers work for me personally, so i want to keep some in there. I feel like it has been long enough, where, like i, i do need to just trim them and clean them up, even if i don't necessarily want them to be shorter. So i think this will be good for my hair because it really has been a long time since i turned my layers probably been over a year, i'm just going along vertical sections, just getting that. Basically till this hair falls out. That'S when i know i can stop and then i can use this part as the guide for the end of my hair. Oh it's not focusing, and this one is the top of the layer, so i'm just blending all of that together with a diagonal cut. If you want to keep that blend, i'm just combing it out coming a lot loose, hair down and then moving on to the next one. I'Ll just do this on each side, all the way to like the middle back of my hair. Now you can start to see like that guide. For me from all the other layer sections, i really have a good guide to go off of almost done this side. I hope i'm staying in focus for you guys, because i'm trying to look in the mirror, because i can see way better in the mirror than the viewfinder, but i also want to make sure like everything is in frame and focus. So hopefully, hopefully you guys have a good view. This is the very back section. I'M gon na do this one and then i'll move back to the front. It'S really not a lot to come up with this one. Oh that was wispy. Okay. Now i will start on the front of this side and do that same thing, let me first feel the difference. I bet you it'll be crazy yeah. I can. I mean it's not a drastic difference, but i can definitely feel this side. Just excuse me this side. Just feels a lot more like rough, whereas this one feels really soft all the way through there's just no splits on the side, it feels so much better. I'M gon na do that same thing. On the other side, there's a lot off of this section and if there's ever like a thicker piece like this, like you can see, focus on my hair on my face, you can see this part is a lot more wispy than this part. So, for this part, i'm just gon na cut right into it and that will just kind of soften that one little area. So it's not so like bulky and thick there. I think it's been literally four months. I don't know if i said that already, but i was trying to count back to when i cut my hair last, and i know i cut it after i got back from my last trip, which i think was in april, yeah um, but yeah. That really was the last time i cut my hair. It'S been way too long. Normally, i try to go like once every 12 weeks at the most, which would be like three months but yeah, i don't know, just got kind of pushed back. I guess i just kind of like forgot that i needed a haircut, but here we are finally doing it now. So i just have a couple more sections here and then we'll move on to the next step. I also really need a new colors. Okay, i'm just gon na redo that back section one last time and then i thought this back section might need more, but i think it just needs a quick little blend. That'Ll be good. Okay, you guys, i think that feels pretty good for layers. So again i didn't take a ton off, but it does feel a lot better. A lot more smooth like you can just feel when your hair has split ends and when it doesn't, you really can so next step. I wonder what time we're at here 20. Like 25 inch minutes, maybe less okay, so time for bangs, so for bangs, i always comb them forward and normally i kind of just. Let me do stop this for a second, i usually just kind of freehand it like. I don't do a lot of sectioning for the bangs um, but i do want to again give myself more of like a curtain. Bang look, so i'm gon na be a little bit more precise this time with, like my sections and then which pieces i'm actually cutting. So i'm gon na take a little triangle section across my part. That'S probably good! I don't want to go too far into the sides for the bangs, but i do want to blend them, which i will do after i make this initial cut. So i think that'll be good for my first bang cut and i'm gon na even clip actually i'll just tuck them. I don't want to give myself a crease on the clip, so i'm just gon na tuck the rest of this and give these a cut. So now i can comb them forward and i'm going to cut them kind of how i did with the layers so kind of pointing into them to keep them again. Nice and soft make sure i'm not getting any harsh lines and before i actually cut and like pull it out, i should first figure out where i want these to sit. So again, i'm thinking like kind of right around my cheekbone area, just underneath there um just above my jaw, kind of thing, so i'm gon na start with this, and i can always take off a little bit more. But that's like a good couple inches wait. I think i have measurements on this comb. It'S not focusing, but it's like two and a half inches. That'S the longest point. So i'm gon na cut that and start there find my part again now. I should have two even sides, even though i do have a side part, so this might need to be refined a little bit, because i did cut them like this, and then this piece has to go a little bit farther. So it ends up a little bit higher up, so i'm gon na just even this out really quick, also just pointing into it right now just again to soften it. Don'T want any harsh lines, especially around the face. So now i should have some pretty good. Looking bangs here at least the start of it again, free handing sometimes just necessary. So i like that length, i think again, i can always go shorter, but i like to err on the side of caution with bangs, especially because i just never know especially like once. I actually style them how i want it might end up being just perfect, so i don't want to mess with them too much. I think that's a good start. Okay, so now um. So now i'm going to take another kind of the same idea. Just another triangle section so a little bit more this time, so that i can now blend these bangs down to the sides, and i'm going to be really careful with this, i'm actually going to work side by side um. Because again, i want like a little bit more disconnection if that makes sense between like where the banks start and then, where my face framing starts i'll say i don't know exactly i'm gon na do that yeah, but that's like what i'm thinking so when i'm doing This i'm going to pull this out, but i'm gon na well. This part will still be kind of part of the bang. So this can probably be pretty short blended here and then i think the next one i'll do a bit longer down so yeah. And let me always start on the side with less hair, so we're going to start on this side. This is actually the hardest or harder side um, because you have to kind of start from the bottom, so you're almost going backwards like this. I think that should be good might need a little bit more, but i'm going to start with that again being cautious here. Do this on the other side? Actually, i'm going to do it the same way just come up from the bottom. Let me first measure get an idea of how much hair i'm cutting off here so right around here, all right, i'm thinking this is definitely gon na need a bit more, but i like how it's looking so far. I do like how it's looking. Oh, you know what it does anymore. Okay, let me leave it. I don't. I just feel like this bottom part is pretty long. Yeah, i'm gon na do a bit more, i'm not going too much shorter. Just maybe like another half an inch, or so you guys see what i'm doing yeah that looks better to me. I think this one needs some blending from up for the record. There is hair everywhere around me right now for countersink, it's just it's taking over. I'M gon na do that same thing on the other side too, actually just bringing it up and then cutting into it. I really like how soft it made the other side, the more of that you do like the more fine like blending. If you do um the easier it'll be to style, which is especially helpful around the front of your hair, because bangs tend to be pretty stubborn to style, okay, so i'm liking what we have here, okay guys, so i think i'm done with that part. I'M gon na take the next. Oh, i like destroyed my eyebrows. Now, look always i'm going forward so much and my makeup is running, but oh and there's hair literally all over my face. Okay. So now i'm gon na take my next section. This one can be quite a bit bigger because now is where i'm gon na take that bigger um like break kind of between the bangs and the rest of the face framing. So i'm gon na go all the way to my ear now i'll, just tuck. This away, although it'll be nice to see yeah so the same thing on this side just to my ear: okay, so again, starting on the side with less hair, and this is going to be tricky. Let me first take a peek and see what i want to do. I think i want to just kind of like start down here, because i do still have some blending from like my last haircuts, where i just did face framing yeah. I think that can be like a good transition. It'S still kind of there, but you see how there will be like a little bit of a drop in length between the two so like this ends here and then it'll be down here where the next layer starts later. But i feel, like you know what i'm saying so i'm going to go from the bottom again, i'm going to end somewhere around here with this cut um. I don't want to take too much off of the bottom, but we'll start with that again just point into it a little bit and i do want to take a little bit more length. I think that wasn't quite enough all right, i'm liking this, but i think my plan worked a little bit better in my head, so i think i will need to trim a little bit off of this like middle section, i'm just gon na point into it, though. I'M gon na pull it up. I'M just gon na pull all of this up actually and point into like mainly that middle section, and i'm going to do a little bit of free handing here kind of bring this all together. Okay, i think i think this is working out good. It'S really hard to see right now, because first of all, my hair is straight and also like i'm not done yet, but now what i'm going to do. Ah, i should probably do that same thing. On this side before i move on actually, so let me do that, so i'm going to kind of go off of what i have here about that much length can come off. It seems like a lot, but i'll start a little bit down here. Okay, i had to do a little bit of like freaking looking into the mirror there, but now i'm gon na take a bit more off and take all this and then i'm going to point into it. Okay, i'm just going to do a bit more face, framing or freehanding meant to say into the mirror, because i'm having a really hard time like seeing what i'm doing looking that way. Okay, i think that section is good. How are we looking so far very blended, but we also have the different lengths in there. I think this is gon na look really good, like once. I actually restyle it so now. I'M gon na just get rid of this like tuck that i have going on, and now i can do the last little bit of blending if needed into so basically the end the end, like perimeter, part of my hair to that last layer or face frame piece That i kind of put in - let me see, what's going on here, yeah so like this piece can go yeah. I like how that looks, so i'm gon na do the same thing on this side. I should have started with this one, but this one's not as bad just a little bit of blending there. Okay, i feel like it's feeling pretty good. Looking pretty good um. Let'S see, let me think for a second by the way, it does not usually take this long to get my hair, but this is a big haircut, so this is like probably the longest that take and i feel like, maybe if, like you're someone that doesn't do This that often it's kind of a better you kind of get a better idea of like how long it might take you. If you were to do this, so i i think i like it. I think it's done honestly just trying to make sure there's nothing like really out of place. There'S nothing! That'S still too long. I think there's something maybe happening here. I'M gon na actually take a little bit of this spot. Okay, you guys, i think, i'm happy with this. I really am. Let me show you the back and hopefully it's straight because obviously i can't see it. The color might also make it look a little bit less than ideal, but if you guys think okay a little 360.. I really like this. You guys i like how this like this piece kind of just sits over my shoulder. I think it's going to look really cute once it's curled, so i think we're done. I think i can stop the timer. So is that a reasonable amount of time to cut your own hair? What do you guys think? Is that what you expected did you think it took longer shorter? What do you guys think? Also? How long does it take you guys to cut your hair, because i know some of you do cut your hair at home already. So that would be interesting to know. Um, especially like a bigger haircut like this like when you it's been a while or you need to take more hair off or you're, adding layers or refining stuff, some some things just take longer than others. So let me know how long does it usually take you guys, but from here i think i'm actually gon na curl it a little bit because i really want to see like especially with these bangs. I want to see how they're sitting and like i probably would want at least a little bit of curl in here. You know. Actually i see a little bit of like crispiness that could come off, so i'm going to try that okay, that's fine! I forgot what i'm saying now, but i am going to curl it, because i want to see how these bangs are going to look um yeah like they just they need a little bit of like you know. Oh that already looks so much better. I'M going to style it and i'll come back and let you guys see the final look all right. You guys. I just finished styling my hair. I did a really quick job, but honestly i love it. This is giving exactly what i wanted to and i feel like. I can definitely do a better job on the styling i mean. I just did this with my flat iron super quick, but i think if i did like a blowout with some rollers and like really got a nice curl in there and like a nice flip, i think this is going to be literally exactly what i wanted. So i'm super happy with how this turned out, i feel, like i mean my hair just feels so much healthier and so much better and it feels light. The length is perfect. I love that i still have like kind of a blunt end, so i still get that like thick look um, my hair is pretty fine, but it still looks very thick on the ends. It looks healthy shiny and i'm really happy with the bangs and excited to play with them more like once i get some rollers, so you guys that brings us to the end of this video. I really hope you enjoyed it. Hopefully it was interesting to see like more of a live haircut and see like how long it takes in real time to do a diy haircut so yeah. I do hope you enjoyed it.
