We can't tell the future I'm not saying that whatever happened to Auntie Shirley with you know that edges that start back here, I'm not saying that that's going to happen to you, but I want you to anticipate that things happen. As we get older happy New Year. Y'All, I'm back with seven Pro tips to help you maintain your short relaxed hair, keep it healthy and popping cause. We all want that right, let's get into it first, I suggest highly that you create a regimen for caring for your short and relaxed hair. Some of the things that you want to implement and put on a schedule whether you digital plan or you write it down or you keep it in your phone and it's important these days. We juggling so many things. Things like when you got your relaxer touch up and your partial relaxer, the last time you colored your hair, whether you're coloring gray, because gray is an indicator on its own to let you know when you need to color your hair, but some of us, like myself, Color your hair, just for Sheen and for depth. If your hair is thin and you're leaning into color to give some volume, you want to make sure that you're creating a regimen for these services and a great way to do that is by jotting it down your workout routine works so much better. When you have a regimen, especially when you fit it into the day or week that you get your hair done so another way to take care of your short relaxed hair is to eat a healthy diet. I tell my guests in the salon all the time. Yes, our hair grows from our head, but what we put into our body has a huge impact on how quickly the hair is growing, how quickly the hair is shedding. So many characteristics of our hair are directly affected by what we put in our body so definitely be mindful of eating. A balanced diet pay attention to how your body responds to certain foods, and, oh, my goodness, I don't know how I want to like climb on the roof and Shout this to the rooftops, because it's the simplest tip. But it's the thing that I have so much. Pushback from people about maintaining their hair and their scalp, and it is your water intake drinking an adequate amount of water is imperative to the health of your hair. You will be so surprised to see how much of an impact drinking your water makes on your hair. Your hair, your scalp, your body, your organs, we talk about hair, but I just want y'all to know it is a big thing and it's readily available to all of us. Often people tell me in the salon. I don't like the way that water tastes or my day is so busy that I get kind of you know in the weeds with things and I often forget to drink water. So if you are looking to get a healthy head of short relaxed hair, what I need you to do is be proactive and maybe get you a cute blinged out water bottle or whatever works for you. Maybe if you buy water in bulk at Sam's or wherever you go so you have it available and leave it in your car. So, wherever you're going, whatever you're doing, you have access to water, but I cannot tell y'all how much of a difference making sure that you are ingesting the allotted amount of water for your weights and yes, you're gon na be peeing a lot. It'S just what it is, but when you think about the fact that everything that our bodies take in toxins chemicals, all of the gunk that lives inside of here when you are going to the bathroom a lot. That is your body's way of getting rid of it. Making just a healthier environment since you want your hair, healthy, drink, the water, okay, let's get into it another very minimized way of taking better care of your short relaxed hair is making sure you go to the doctor again we're at the top of the year. So this is a time where a lot of us are putting our ducks in a row and taking care of our big girl business, and, if it's not already on your list, I needed to be on your list. Go to the doctor get your annual checkup. Our blood work is such a huge indicator of what's going on or what's not going on, and sometimes your levels being off in your iron or just something that you like. Well, I'm sure I'm fine, I'm still alive, but you're deficient in something it shows in your hair. It can cause shedding, it can cause breakage, it can cause slower production of hair growth, so every single year or this year or whatever. If you did not visit the doctor last year, you sis I'm talking to you. I need you to book that appointment and get your blood work done, because, knowing that everything is in check inside your body and that your body is getting all of the nutrients, um and everything is Flowing right will show itself in your gorgeous hair. Okay, don't come for me, don't come for me, but I'ma come for you a little bit, but that don't mean you come back for me. It'S all in love. If you want to have healthier short, relaxed hair. One thing I really want you to take a good evaluation, is your stress level stress breaks out, edges napes crowns contributes to shedding like I see it all of the time A lot of times when I'm analyzing my guest hair and we're talking about things and they've Done all of the previous steps that I talked about in this list and we're just going through because I'm one of them people who are going to pull it out of you when I'm working with your hair - and I know that you are a person who normally Has healthier hair and we see a drastic shift, I'm going to ask you all of those pertinent questions until I get to the meat of the uh issue so that we can work on it together to get your hair back healthier as women, the health of our Hair is imperative, don't nobody want to be out here, broken off and looking straggly, so as The Stylist, I take it very seriously when my guests, hair, aren't like popping out here so stress - is a major factor now I know y'all probably saying girl. I don't got no uh say in how stressed I am life be life in, and I know that we all got stressed. But what I want us to do for healthier, hair, but just also for a healthier life, is to be mindful of the things that trigger you and are major stressors and to try to find a way to counteract that thing. So if your job is a major stressor in your life, you got to make the donuts I know, but maybe you do a little quick um in your car, on your lunch break, or maybe you um have a person that you can vent to who works at Your job, too, they get the Dynamics of it. It'S a good way for you to get it out of your system, whatever floats your boat and gives you a little bit of relief that ain't hurting anybody else. Pack them things into your life too, because stress has a major impact on the health of your hair. I'M telling y'all, I see it all the time. Here'S another topic that causes controversy amongst the short relaxed community and I'ma, just say it because y'all know I'ma say it another way for you to make sure that you are doing everything you can to have healthier hair is to leave the chemicals to a professional. I know you probably been doing this since biblical days laying and frying and dying and laying your hair to the side. I caution about chemical Services being done by stylists, because I see so much damage some that's reversible and you know you do the big chop and it comes back, but some is done to fragile hair that never really sees the same amount of vibrancy and strength and Health, after repetitive things being done to it, and sometimes let me not say repetitive, because sometimes folks do that one good um blonde all summer and I'm gon na put some black on it or I've been rinsing my hair black for months, and I want to go Blonde and they put that permanent color on it and it's curtains. So I won't say repetitive because I don't want y'all to get the impression that if you don't do it a whole lot, it makes it better. Chemical Services should be done by a professional. My product line, pixie-ish beauty, is short hair at home maintenance products, so I understand that budgets be doing what they doing, and sometimes lifestyle and time just doesn't allow you to be in the salon all the time. I completely get it. I'M supporting you, I'm helping. You keep it cute at home, but some things you shouldn't be doing: don't do them. Chemicals figure out the best time and the best person to provide those services for you and your hair. Well, thank you. Talking to your stylist is a great way to take better care of your hair, letting them know any changes shifts anything that you've noticed anything that y'all were doing that you don't like anymore. Anything. You did at the house that you slightly embarrassed about, but you know, may impact the quality of your hair going forward. Just tell them having open conversation with your stylist really helps to help them. Give you the best service experience possible a lot of times. People have told me that they prefer not to say nothing. I don't want to offend The Stylist, I'm embarrassed. I did this all of the things. We know that it happens, but what it does is hinder you from getting the best care for your hair, so have open conversations with your stylist as the seasons change. I make it a point to have conversations with my guests about what they're hoping for as the weather gets warmer. I'M always talking about spring is coming. What are you looking to do different? Are we going longer? Do you want to go shorter? A lot of people like to lighten their hair in the spring and those conversations that we have in February March help me as their stylist to prepare their hair for healthy transitions to lighter colors in the spring months. And it also helps me have the hard conversations with the folks who don't got no business with no permanent color in their hair. It just gives us time to get those things done and also helps me to find creative, funky dope ways to still give them a fresh look without doing something that's going to be detrimental to their hair or to their scalp. So have conversations with your stylist. If you go into somebody that you feel like you can't talk to, should you really be going to them? Should you really be paying them money and you feel like you're sitting there and letting them do whatever, or should you be paying them money and you feel like you're still going home and doing things because the service experience is not meeting your needs now? I know budget is a whole other thing. Sometimes people try to cut corners and do things based on their budget. That'S completely different if you are having a regular relationship with a stylist and you are trusting them to care for your hair. Make sure that you are communicating your needs, your wants and your desires, and also leave space for your stylist, to give you professional guidance on what is best for your hair and your scalp, anticipating the inevitable changes of life that are going to happen to you. As a woman to your body and your hair is a great way to take better care of your hair, listen, I know that people like variety they like to switch it up. Maybe you beat Kim on um the first week of the month and you be like Kathy on the third week of the month. That'S you. Do you boo, if Kim wears her short, hair and Kathy wears a wig? Do you? I have no judgment, but what I do want to throw out there for you to entertain. Is you always want to be anticipating what your hair is going to do as the years go along? So if you are rocking protective styles or wigs or something that has a lot of manipulation, has you adding extensions or glue, or things like that, be mindful that some of us might be in our 20s and have those popping hair follicles? But some of us, these hair, follicles, hair follicles, is slowing down right if it's heredity uh, if heredity plays a part - and you know that you guys usually lose your hair around your edges. Does it really make sense for you to be gluing wigs or pulling your edges back with braids? If you know that nine times out of ten - and we can't tell the future, I'm not saying that whatever happened to Auntie Shirley with you know that edges that start back here, I'm not saying that that's going to happen to you, but I want you to anticipate That things happen as we get older, the production of hair growth gets a little bit slower and things that have affected the women, and sometimes even men in our family could probably knock on your door, so be mindful of those things as you're styling, your hair make Sure that you're, taking as best care of your hair, that you can because, as we get older sure as we here today and we popping and we fine things are going to change and those changes also do show themselves in your hair. So if you know that you are thin in the crown in your family or if you know that you know edges are slowly leaving the scene, be mindful of that and make sure that as you're caring for your hair now, while they're still all flowing and luxurious, That you're not doing anything to accelerate something that may I'm just saying happen in your future.
