Hello, everybody. I need to fix my hair because it hurts look at my frizz ball, my hair getting so long and it hurts. When i wear it up in a point, look, it looks insane. It hurts when i wear it up in a bun, so i'm gon na just braid it out because it freaking hurts. So today's been hectic since i woke up and the babies were up a lot last night. This always happens whenever i leave. When i come back. It'S always like an adjustment. It always takes a few days for them to get back to like normal. I guess you could say it's always like really. I don't know it's hard to get them to sleep at night, and so anyway, they were up a lot. Last night it was very rough and they were up very early, but once i finally was able to like get started with my day, it just was a hectic crazy day. So it's already like 5 30 and i haven't filmed anything yet today, for you guys - and i still have so much more to do it's a crazy day but um. We have very exciting news in the house today. That has nothing to do. I mean i could tell you all the crazy things that are happening with work, or i could tell you the most exciting thing of all, which is that one of the silkworms has made a cocoon. So we are very excited in our house today about that. We have about 10 000 little silkworms that we are taking care of, and i've had them for so long. I feel like we've had them for like a month or something i don't know but um they. Finally, just now one has made a cocoon and it's so crazy how different it is from when we got the butterflies last time, the butterflies that we got because they made you know a little chrysalis and then they turn into butterflies. But these silkworms are going to turn into moths and, what's crazy is that the cocoon looks like a spiderweb. It looks like when um a spider makes like a web of eggs or whatever i don't know like. We have black widows a lot here in california and it kind of reminds me of a huge massive black widow, baby spider egg. So that's what it looks like it's kind of creepy, but um i'll have to show that to you guys the babies are doing great. They'Re super cute and amazing: they just don't sleep anymore because um, i don't know, there's not that they ever did sleep. They just really did not sleep last night, so i feel very tired. So if i'm not making any sense, it's because i haven't slept but flynn right now is getting a haircut. So that's what flynn is up to. I don't know what's going on, but eric this morning was like hey flynn. Let'S go get you a haircut eric's. Always the one who's like you're, never cutting flint's hair flynn is gon na have long hair. It'S so cute on him, which it is flynn likes his hair long. You know we like his hair long. Whenever we cut it, we usually try to trim it. We try not to cut it too short, but um he's taking him to an actual place to get his haircut, which we haven't done since he was like one, and so i'm interested to see how flynn's gon na react to that, and also i'm interested to see What they do to his hair? I wonder if it's gon na be super short or if they're, just gon na trim it or what's gon na happen, i'm very oh baby's crying got ta go there. She is in all her glory there. She is now we have all of these egg cartons all throughout their little box, um for them to do their cocoons in i just cleaned out by the way all these poop, i cleaned out literally 10 hours ago, and that's just how much they poop there's the First, cocoon that's all made of silk. So eventually all of these little worms well big worms now, but they will all um have little cocoons like that. One over there and they'll become moths pretty exciting. But while i'm waiting for flynn to come home, i'm gon na open some packages and eric just sent me a picture. Oh my god, they cut off his hair. It is very short and he looks so cute. He looks so freaking cute. I can't if you guys, see it, but he i almost cried when i got the picture because he looks so old, he looks like he's like five years old. You look it's so cute, okay anyway, i'm very sad about that. But let's open some packages. All of our favorite time of the day, this package, opening you know, i saw a comment the other day. That said, like think of all the packages, colleen must have got during quarantine that we were deprived of because some of you genuinely like when i open packages, i apologize to people who are not entertained by this part, because it's probably boring to a lot of people, But some people really like this part of the vlog and i really like the smart, vlog yeah. There were a lot of packages. I don't just cut off my leg. There were a lot of packages during the pandemic that you guys did not see, and i apologize for that. I wish i could go back in time and show it all to you, but it's too late now i don't know what this is. It looks like a pr package. Oh what thanks for shopping local. That'S my friend tia actually always says that, oh, my god, that's so great, and what a nice little reminder on the days where i feel like i don't got this, which is most days. That'S so cute love yourself. First then pass it on to keep it going pass on the kindness that is so cute all right. So here are the clothes i got from this company that i thought were cute, so this is like a towel material like it's like a. I think it's called terry cloth is that this is called. I don't know, um the stuff was kind of pricey guys it was kind of expensive, but it was cute. So there's these little shorts and this little tank top for wesley. How cute is that and for maisie with a little bloomers? That'S so cute! So yeah got these they're like a kind of like a mint, greenish, color so cute. Here i have this little headband that matches an outfit onesie. Oh, my god, it's even cuter in person than it was online, so it's this little cute, uh onesie and then a matching little romper for wes. So basically, i look online for baby clothes constantly that i like, and it's really hard to find clothes that are boy girl, matching baby clothes. I feel like it's very hard to find so whenever i find a store that has stuff like that, i get very, very excited and obviously go a little pull out. So then i have this little succulent uh onesie. I got both of them. One of these. This is like a little camper summer - one, oh, my god, there's a butt flap that is so cute. It'S this little camping trip, onesie and then a pink one with frills. For me, that is so cute, oh my god, and then this is just cute little fruits like summer fruits. I got them both one of those too. Oh, my god. These are so cute and they're all so soft anyway. What i'm saying is that it's hard for me to find clothes where there's like a matching boy version and a girl version of something and then also clothes that are like bright and colorful, because a lot of gender neutral clothes are like this color. Like very plain, boring, colors but like i want bright colors like, but they don't make a lot of bright colors for boys. Unfortunately, so i have a hard time finding stuff like that. So anyway, that company is called aidan ollie and i also got these, and this is little bum bums, which is more well-known, uh company really really soft, bamboo material, uh, pajamas and stuff. So this is like i just like, because it was bright. It'S like little cute pineapples, it's not fun, and then we have this little romper thing: it's a little french bulldog wearing glasses. They have sunflower ones so cute with a little ruffle, and then i got one without the ruffle for wes ooh. I got a loss. Oh, my gosh, but all these clothes are six to 12 months, so hopefully these will last them until they're a year old, because i don't have to keep buying stuff and how cute is this? Are you kidding i'm obsessed that is so fun another rainbow fun cute. I'M so excited for all their cute little new clothes. What are you doing leslie? What are you doing just too cute amazing hydraulic face? What are you doing? Oh, what's that what you got you want to eat, that is that delicious? Is it delicious something very exciting? You do look like jojo kinda. That'S right is that kind of cool yep yep i love it. He looks so cute. That is just everything you look amazing, we're looking for bugs guys looking for bugs and i'm sure we'll just find mosquitoes that will eat my skin. What stuff right there! You see! A bumblebee yeah, oh gosh, there's a bump. We shouldn't step on him. Oh he'll sting, okay, it's story time, which one should we do? Maybe dinos dinos, look at all the kind of trucks we can get wow. What do you see what kind of trucks we i see, steamroller parking ball, sleep, scraper portfolio, railway, backhoe, dump, truck jack camera photos are dinosaur and a mouse wow. Are you gon na read this one? Read it: okay, what's bigger than a digger bigger than a dinosaur? Digger sores are bigger, so obviously i'm fast forwarding through me actually reading this book to flynn, but i did skip a few pages. I thought i was being sneaky, but flynn totally caught me. There'S nothing bigger than a digger sore all together hear them roar. Never did that one yeah. I don't know why. Oh there, it is look mama. You forgot this. I forgot that page they crunch and munchled cars for lunch. Their favorite ones are rusty. So what happens to the silkworms? Now they change in the moves in the moves. Did they turn into dirt? First? No, what do they do? First, they changing their and then they turn into butterflies into mommies. They turn into cocoons and then they come out. The silk worms make cocoons and then they turn into a corner, and this is kind of like money, money mo money money, it's kind of like muffs, those silkworms turn into money. We have lots of books, you want to read more books, yeah. We have a ton of them. Okay, we'll read more hello, everybody i just ate a cookie, so there's probably cookies all over my face, but it's time to answer some tortilla tuck questions. I favorited some of the comments you guys made, and so here we go. Let'S answer your questions, maria said, which side of the family carries the blue eyed jean. It amazes me how all three of your kids have gorgeous blue gray eyes when you and erica brown eyes girl. This is crazy to me. I never in a billion years thought i would have kids with blue eyes. Flannel was born in blue eyes and we're like that's weird they'll change brown. They never did and after he was like a year and a half i was like. I guess his eyes are blue. This is crazy. So then we got pregnant with the twins and i was like oh we're. Definitely gon na have brown eyed twins like and we were comp. That was the only thing we were sure of is like we're. Having twins and they're totally gon na have brown eyes. I do not understand why all three of my kids are blue. My dad has blue eyes, so that's must be where they got them. It must have got passed on from my dad, but my mom has brown eyes all my siblings have brown eyes. Eric'S family has brown eyes, so i'm very confused by this, but i guess my dad passed down his blue eyes, but also my grandma. My mom's mom had blue eyes and my aunt has blue, so there's blue eyes, scattered throughout my family, but just i just can't believe they all blew us. It'S really crazy. I never thought that would happen. I liked this question. Bailey said your t-top question: i'm a pediatric nurse and after your baby's stay in the nicu, i was wondering what advice you would have for nurses like what was most impactful, that your fave nurses said or did for you, while your babies were there. Thank you, love your videos and watching the kids grow. My favorite nurses were the ones who i knew my babies would um succeed the most with, if that makes sense like, if i could tell a nurse, was like passionate about my children like oh maisie's, really getting so close. I tried so hard to get her to eat today and she ate almost all her bottles. I tried so hard with her. She did such like when they talked about my kids, like they cared about my i could tell they cared so deeply about my children and them succeeding and coming home like when we were on the same page like we were, i felt like i was on the Same team, as the nurses like, we were working together to get my babies home. That made me feel so much better like when i would leave the hospital. I always felt more comfortable leaving the hospital like eric, and i had favorite nurses where we'd be like. Oh, it's so, and so tonight, like it's sue tonight like so they're gon na be good. You know, like we'd, be able to tell each other what nurse was there and we knew like okay. That means i'll sleep okay tonight, because i know they're in really good hands with a nurse who adores them is doing everything she can to take care of them and make sure that they get healthy and strong to come home. So that was really helpful like having the nurses that were very vocal about how passionate they were about my kids doing well other than that i'd say the number one thing that was really hard and i will cry still like. Oh, my god, it's been so long since the nicu, and still i talk about it. It makes me cry. It was such a hard time, but the hardest thing for me as a mom of babies in the nicu, was that there were a lot of things. I felt like i was missing out on as a mom because they were there, so i didn't get to feed them their first bottle. I didn't get to change their first diaper. You know stuff like that and that still obviously is very hard for me. I really really appreciated the nurses. Sorry i feel like i missed out on a lot of their firsts and a lot of moments with them because they were there in the nicu. So i really really loved and appreciated the nurses. So much who made me feel comfortable to be their mom when i was there because there's all different kinds of nurses and they're all amazing. All the nurses are incredible, i'm not talking smack on any nurse they're, all so great, but there were some nurses where i felt like i was in their room and they were in control and they were taking care of everything i felt like. I was stepping on their toes if i tried to jump in and change a diaper or feed the babies or hold the babies like it was like this was their room and they were working in there and they were taking care of the kids. And then there were nurses who were like here hold macy. Do you want to change wesley's diaper like do you want to do this? Hey did you want to do this, like they really pushed me so hard to take control and be the mom and i loved? I was so grateful to those nurses - oh my god. I wonder if i'll ever not feel like this talking about the neck but um. I really really appreciated that. So any opportunity to let the moms be the mom like, oh give it to them, because they want it so bad so yeah. I would say that those two things like making sure that the moms know like you adore their children and you want what's best for their kids and also making sure the mom feels like the mom, because when your baby's in the hospital you feel like you miss Out on a lot and that's heartbreaking, so yeah giving the mom the opportunity to be the mom as much as possible and as often as possible, is really really wonderful. That'S what i would say anyway, oh my god, i'm so emotional, also one. I thought one more thing. This would have been really helpful for me at the nicu. Is i felt like oftentimes my motherly instincts were brushed aside as like i was crazy and i was emotional and i ended up being right about everything that was my mother's instinct. I am not a nurse, i am not a doctor, i am not as smart as the people in those nicu. I never will be. I respect and admire all people in the medical field and especially the people who took care of my babies. I never wanted anyone to feel like i was overstepping their job and what they were doing. But at the same time i was the twins mom and i had motherly instincts and gut instincts about things that were happening with them and i felt like none of those things were listened to, specifically with maisie. I was confident she had a tongue tie and everyone said no, she doesn't and they brushed me off, and i said i think, that's why that she's, taking longer to learn how to eat um tongue tie runs in my family like can we please look into this And they would just kind of feel around and they're like no, it's not there trust me, we've seen tongue tie this isn't and i was told i was you're just emotional. We promise all babies are different like it's just because you know she just learns at a different pace than her brother, and that is partly true. But like maizy went home a week and a half two weeks after wes, it was because she couldn't figure out how to eat, and i was confident she had a tongue tied and i was brushed off by every nurse. And then, when the day that we left the day, maisie finally got to leave the hospital a nurse said: oh, we did notice a tongue tie today when we looked - and i was like i've been saying this for weeks and you all call me crazy. So that was one thing. Another thing i said she has nasal issues like she sounds like she can't breathe when she's eating and everyone brushing me off. No, she doesn't know she doesn't she's fine, she's, fine, she's, fine and then at her first checkup. They were like she has really small passageways. She has a hard time breathing. I had to give her nasal drops for the first few months of her life. Those are just a couple examples. There was like a ton of things like that, though, where i would bring up something that i thought that it was a concern of mine or something i felt that um was wrong or off with one of my kids and oftentimes. It was brushed aside and i did have nurses say you know you're, just emotional you're, just tired, like i promise you it's fine, this is normal and even if that is how you feel, and even if you know that to be true just to have a single Nurse come to me and be like oh my gosh. Thank you for bringing that up. Your concerns are totally valid. We'Ll look into that for you like. I wish just someone had said that to me, because it would have made me feel better, even if they didn't believe it, but just the fact that i was made to feel like. I was crazy and i was just being emotional and i was you know over thinking. I felt stupid every time. I brought up these concerns and then i found out after the babies left the nicu that everything that i had concern about, or a gut instinct about was actually true. It made me really upset that i was completely tossed to the side like that and told that everything i thought was crazy and that it was you know, you know what i'm saying yeah and i don't think anyone had ill intent by the way. I don't think any nurses were like we don't care about her kids, so we're just not gon na listen to her. I think they just didn't think what i was saying was accurate or whatever, and - and i don't think they were trying to be rude or mean to me or anything. I think they were looking out for my children and they wanted what was best for my kids but um. I just think for some reason. They didn't believe me. When i brought up my concerns um, i don't think they had ill intent. I think it just was unfortunate that, like every time i brought something up, it was just like no you're crazy. That doesn't exist. That was really hard. So anyway, that's that was a very long one to answer, but that's how that's my answer. Aggie aji aggie said i know that, like a month ago or something you guys were looking for a new house is that still something you're interested in. I also love you so much you make my day better. Thank you. We are looking for a new house. In fact, we have been very much on the hunt for a new house and i'm pretty confident that within a few months we will move it used to be like oh we're. Looking we'll see. If it happens, i think we're getting pretty close to finding a place, and i think if we continue on the track that we're on we might be moving very soon. We might - i don't know, but i would say within a few more months, hopefully um. We will be moving, i don't know any more information that it's a feeling that i have. I have a feeling we're on the right track. I have a feeling we're headed in that direction. Mercury is out of retrograde. Things are going to start moving in the right direction in my life and i'm putting it into the universe that we will be moving to our new forever home, our cute little family. Sooner than later, i hope we'll see, but we are looking and we're hoping we don't want to live here at this house anymore. There'S just flynn's favorite animal is a cockroach and it's not because cockroaches are cool. It'S because there's just cockroaches all over our house. So that's what he sees the most often they're, not in the house. It'S not like our house is clean and good. There'S not cockroaches running around the house. Our out, the outside of our house, is covered in cockroaches, and it's just because we live in a gross part of town yeah. We want to move, we want them to have a backyard. We want to build a trailhouse for them. The twins just woke up. Ah, these babies, never sleep. Okay, i got ta go i'll. Let you guys see tomorrow, ask tortilla talk, questions for tomorrow. Meredith: As a young nurse I just want to say thank you for sharing your perspective. Criticism towards nurses is definitely not always constructive (which I understand considering it’s sometimes the scariest moments of peoples’ lives that they encounter nurses). It really is extremely helpful especially to younger nurses to see your perspective. Even those few sentences will have an impact on what kind of nurse I am and will be. I can’t thank you enough for sharing in a way that was constructive and still kind!!

Sometimes it’s awkward asking parents if they want to do something (like implying I don’t want to change their baby’s diaper) but I always push myself to push parents to be the primary caregiver and see me as their medical helper. It’s amazing seeing how doing a simple diaper change or swaddle really affects how the parents are feeling
Eli B: I have a twin sister, and my mom used to dress us in matching “boy/girl” outfits all the time growing up (she used to order them out of catalogs ) & it makes me so happy looking back at photos of us in them! Thalia Alexiou: tortilla talk question: Have you ever heard of a Montessori school or considered it for Flynn when he starts school? If you haven't, it's basically a very hands-on learning style with a more family-like feel (at least at the school I went to) and is also a good place for any learning disabilities. I went to a Montessori school for 11 years and I am so happy that I got the opportunity to do so. I highly recommend researching Montessori schools when looking for schools for Flynn (if that's something you're doing). Love you and your videos! ❤
Carolyn Elsner: Ok Colleen we actually just went over this in my biology class. So the light eyes gene is a recessive gene and the brown eyed gene is the dominate gene. It’s a lot more complicated then that but that is the basics. So to have a recessive gene presenting it means that there must be two recessive alleles. This means that you and Erik must have a homozygous(meaning one of each dominate and recessive) eye color genes. This would explain why the light eye gene doesn’t show up for you but it does show up for your children because they inherited both of the recessive light eye genes from each of you. At least that is how I understood it from my class. I think that’s pretty cool

Emily: Blue eyes are a recessive trait! So you and Erik both carry the recessive blue eye trait and also the brown eye trait. The brown eye trait is dominant, so since you carry both, you guys express that one and have brown eyes. If you remember Punnett squares from biology, basically you had a 1/4 chance of having kids with blue eyes, so you got that 1/4 chance with all 3 kids! ❤

Becky Howie: Tortilla talk question: How is Flynn going with reading? It’s so great to see him enthusiastic about you reading with him. I’m a librarian and a bit of a nerd about childhood literacy development lol.
C M: Yes! when you were describing the tongue tie and symtoms, I totally feel you! I just discovered recently how all my kids have one, even though I went to ents and some said they didn't have one (some even have severe cheek and lip ties) and I even tried having it cut by ENTs but it didn't help much with the issues they had. Please please look into the laser treatment option, the younger you take care of it the better! Also look into oral myofunctional therapy. Basically because of lip ties, the tongue doesn't rest in the place it is supposed to, which is in the palette. Therefore the palette doesn't expand properly, causing it to be narrow, resulting in small or blocked airways in mouth and nose, which is why you had Maisy's breathing issues. I'm dealing with it all now, and it's fascinating all the feeding, nursing, breathing, speech, sleeping and host of other issues in my kids are all related to their ties. You can YouTube Dr Zaghi from the breathing institute to learn all about it with the studies! Good luck!!!
