Oscar came to the Regal Gentleman Studio as he wanted to lose his medium length pushed back style and go for a Ryan Gosling The Place Beyond the Pines inspired haircut. He had a similar hair type to Ryan Gosling and was able to go for a style that was very similar minus the blonde hair and tattoos.

All right guys welcome back to the vegan gentleman youtube channel. Today, we've got oscar in the chair. How are you mate good morning? How are you i'm always playing with you can't complain? So what are we doing? What'S the plan uh, so we're gon na go a little bit shorter for somewhere now, okay, four months ahead, yeah take the length off and okay. So my girlfriend's begging, oh okay, no worries! What have you got in mind, then how short you're thinking uh? So i was watching a movie there. Didn'T i place in the points with everyone doesn't all right. I think i want to do like something that kind of short does that make sense: yeah, okay, right yeah, so you know that kind of like not like super short but like um, like a blade or anything like that. Yeah yeah yeah or you might have to take it down. I don't know yeah. We can actually look at the length on that, but yeah, okay, showing all the lines of yeah, yeah, yeah sure yeah sounds good man. Okay, no reason to look lucky here. Then that's what we've done. Okay, yeah we'll work yeah. It should work so yeah yeah, definitely yeah. It'S quite a topic. To be honest, that's it's quite an on trend here style as well. To be honest, um leave it to me on i'll i'll, try and copy that length as close to it as possible, unless you want to go shorter on the back and sides or the top. What do you think i love this eyeshadow and i think the top is nice because it's not too short yeah yeah, but it's also not too long that you could trying to like almost like neaten it a bit yeah you could always. You could always wear it over to one side. Yeah i mean you could always do that yeah, it's more. It is just kind of top heavy cut, it's kind of um, very top-heavy hairstyle, but then, obviously you can. You can connect it in to the other side. As well, but obviously you've got a fringe as well. So that's one thing we can. We can work on. So i think when we pick the length on the top, i think the best way to do it is looking at where the fringe sits on that picture. Right and his fringe sits just on his eyes, so that's the best way to kind of go from you for to suit. You is to cut it, so the fringe sits on the eyes just about there, okay and then that way that will still come over. So this will be enough length in there for that to still fall over all right and back inside. I was thinking, maybe just a bit of freehand clipperwork, just to cut it right in yeah and get it to a similar length to that absolutely yeah. All right! Man, cool i'll, get your ground up more get started right guys, so i've just went down oscar's hair. Now i'm going to start by cutting in the top shape, because i want to just graduate this down nicely on the sides in the back, and i want to be a very soft finish because essentially that is what ryan gosling's hair is like. It'S very soft. It'S quite it's almost yeah. It'S it's! It'S um! I don't know. When was the film based? What do you know what the time frame it was meant to be based in the 90s or whatever early 2000s yeah how's? That kind of it does it? Does the haircuts similar, though, as well um, it's a very similar haircut as well, so um yeah, i'm going to start with the top and create the shape first and then we're going to graduate because a lot of the time, these kind of films, and especially in Movies as well for continuity, a lot of the time the haircuts aren't always as harsh um, just because it's easier to stay on top of if you've got to fade every day, you know it's quite hard to keep on top of, isn't it. You know i mean if you the minute that fade starts growing out or whatever um so yeah. It goes for continuity, then kind of kind of haircuts as well. It'S nice and tidy nothing too drastic, but just looks nice and neat and that's kind of what i go for a lot of sort of top heavy finish on top into a nice shorter back and sides. That'S it that's! The aim find the length that works now, bearing in mind we've got the fringe here. So that's a good indication of how short we want to take it. So i'm going to pick it up through the back and again. We need this to sit nice and heavy. All right, so i'm going to start off by taking i'm hoping. This is the exact length that we need. So i'm just thinking how i want this to sit. I still want to sit with, so you can still see the sort of length sitting through it here. So i'm going to take off about that much because i think underneath there's a good leg, all right, i'm going to be working on point cutting into the top here, because again we want a very nice soft finish: yeah, it's working through the middle now just taking Sections that are about a bit of finger and width, that's what we're looking for we're, obviously taking quite a bit of length off. So we want to um to keep the sections nice and close. That'S the best thing for it. So, what's nice about this sort of cut as well, i've also seen oscar bringing in that picture. It'S good inspiration because um, you know you've got a very similar hair type which does help. You know. You'Ve got a kind of quite straight coming away a little bit of wave, but it's fairly straight. Your hair, though yeah yeah, it's very straight um a bit like what his is like. You know it's that kind of feels as though maybe the texture might be a bit thicker. Obviously his hair is colored as well, so it will sit a lot flatter because it's a bit more damaged, so it does tend to sit better um but yeah. I think you've got you've picked the hairstyle for your hair type as well, which is it's really good, um it. It saves a lot of a lot of time and effort trying to figure out what to do. You know for for me and you um so yeah. I think well done on that mate. You know it's always it's always nice. When someone brings in a haircut that is actually for their hair texture. Sometimes you find that some styles, just don't just don't work, you know they just don't the texture, isn't right or someone's got curly hair and they want a straight hair style. You know it doesn't always it doesn't always work so as you've got to just be quite careful of really but yeah, it's good. It works out quite well and what might do while i'm here, i cut the fringe in as well, because to the eyebrows throughout that form, as i tries, i should dry just on top of the eyebrow as well funny. I'Ve lived over here for two and a half years now. I'Ve got my hair cooked three times. Oh really yeah, because i've got butchered each time. I don't want it uh right. Where would you go? Would you would you go for this different place every time? Okay? So i go in, i asked for something and then i end up looking like i had a fight with hedge shimmers and lost so um yeah. I don't know, and then i seen this channel and then i was like this and i just need to figure out a way to get a haircut off him because yeah yeah. So what would you do? Would you wait to go back home? Would you or is that what you normally do? Yeah cq, my like good friends, are barbers back home? Oh okay! So it's been a thing for years. Where i sit down, don't say anything! You know what kind of way they generally know what i want yeah, because i've always kind of had before this long hair, i've always kind of had like kind of similar to what i'm getting now. Okay, yeah so going in. I know it's such a stupid thing to say, but it's a weird kind of thing when you're so used to having the same people put your hair the whole time. Of course it down and you're like yeah. Of course, that's what that's? Why you? Why you build a sort of why you have a regular barber, because it it saves that stress of you having to try and you know, explain what you want every time you go in of course yeah. That'S i mean that's what most that's what i like. You know i mean i like films, i sit down and get a haircut without having to worry about it. Of course, i think we all do um, but especially when you've built that rapport with them. Like you said, the two two mates as well, you know, makes a big difference, nice and straight, but as you can see, i'm cutting on a slight angle as well, so i'm working quite low down, because i still want to keep a bit of length through this Panel here, because we want it to sit nice and heavy still, but we're still with a nice connection as well. This is creating that nice sort of guideline for me to start my clipper work and give that short, nice and short effect toward the back and sides without looking like we've put a guard anything or blade, or anything like that at all. You see, there's still nice bit of length on this. We just tape it for about this point and that's when you start to get that nice top heaviness too. I had to get my um. I only actually recently got it touched up like a couple of months ago, because i was going to wedding, oh yeah. The problem is that my the back of my hair was growing twice as fast, so it almost looked like i had a mullet yeah. That was happening just even it out a little bit, yeah yeah, so you know i mean i don't know how even it is now. I think it's almost like round back just says yeah i mean it doesn't necessarily matter too much. Now it's more or less made because we're not keeping it so yeah, it doesn't matter too much now i haven't even looked through it because i haven't needed to worry about that bit of modest mate um, because we're just if we, if we are taking that shorter, It doesn't. The main thing i want to focus on was what the length was like on top and back inside. It doesn't really matter too much of a copy in the hairstyle we're just taping it off yeah, yeah yeah, so we'll have our guide from the top. Here once i once i cut into the left hand, side as well um and then that way we'll you know we'll just graduate everything down, so it doesn't matter too much. The only thing i'm focusing on really is getting the top to sit perfect um. Do you let it run back in front? Do i wait, um depends depends, um depends what i'm doing for this particular look. I will do because i'm setting the i'm setting the length in so i'll start from the back of the crown and then way to the front. Um reason being. I can copy the length much more accurately because the sections are much more air, cleaner, um, but it depends. It depends on what i'm doing it depends all on the hairstyle really um. Well, yeah! That'S what it is really in the middle of the night. I just never downloaded the app that pretends you've got the uh, the clipper on it. I don't know if you've seen that one yeah yeah yeah yeah people got mad yeah, oh yeah, my heart would sink well. I heard that what they yeah, actually i'm not. That was, you know, i'm actually not. I'Ve never tried the. I was tempted to turn knock down all my mates, video, but i was just like yeah, i think. Looking back now i mean i probably would should have done it more. I think i should have done the full, the full shave here, because i used to have that myself like for years like as a kid i kind of wish. I had done that like now. You know me and bo i just didn't get i just never really. I don't know why i think i just didn't couldn't bring myself to do it. I don't know what reason i don't think i knew how long we were gon na be in lockdown for as well. Don'T forget like if you, if you look back, i was convinced it was three weeks and then that was that was straight back and all my clients still booked in you know and then um. Obviously it was a lot longer than that um, but yeah. It was just one of those things you got ta kind of just risk. It was. It was a big risk, yeah yeah. It was right so back inside i'm going to trim these down. Now, i'm just going to get gradually shorter to the bottom. So, following the guy from the right hand, side i'm just getting gradually shortened to the neck as well. I'Ve actually got a very similar neckline to ryan gosling as well in that area, but you can see from the side yeah yeah yeah, keeping that crown with some length in it as well to blend into that top heaviness on the very top go over that nice Short taper on the bottom. That was a bit of a weird question, but is there any certain type of haircut you like before i like to cut yeah um like do you like, prefer like to do more scissors work, or do you like to work with the flippers more um? Really, nothing bother me. You know me um i'd, say if i had to pick um, that's a biggest style. I'D probably do maybe something nice and like kind of like really heavily textured the kind of thing i like to do, whether it's longer short it wouldn't really matter. It'S just more. The technique i like to do um so yeah. I'D, probably you know, i'd. Probably i utilize a bit of clippers and nearly everything anyway, so i was always i just love doing clip over comb. I think it's a really impressive thing to do, which one i'm doing now. I think it it adds a lot to a haircut, so it gives a very kind of um gives a shorter finish without it. Looking like you've been completely butchered, you know um, which is quite nice um. I don't i i i just my my clientele is so varied me. I don't really have the one hairstyle that i do a lot of. No, i don't really have the one haircut. No, i i have such a a mixed bag of clientele. It'S hard it's hard to say that i just i don't just have one really, but that's the reality of our channel as well. Is that we do a lot. We do every single person right. We we don't pick and choose the oh, that's gon na be the best for a skin fade. That'S gon na be the best for this. We just do everything and do it to the best we can. You know what i mean. So you know some fades. Don'T look as crisp as a guy who's in the chair next, because sometimes just their hair isn't good for a fade, no matter what you do! No! No! It'S! Not it's not for me to tell them that but uh as in like what i see at the end yeah, you know, i think you've got this haircut spot on. What'S good, really, there mate just want to soften it up a bit more though so. You'Ll have a lot more movement on the top, so obviously the clipper works quite blunt. So when you're doing a clip over comb, obviously you cut the shaping and then i'm just doing the outline and now just the detailing around the edges and then i'm going to really really chop into the whole head. So then it really really falls a lot. Looser. Now again, his hair will fall will fall a little bit um softer as well, because his hair is coloured. So it does that more the more like when you dye your hair blonde. It damages it. It just falls. It'S just a really nice texture to happily but not um. I think it's a great texture to work with it moves about whenever you wanted to so um. I was considering it like putting the bomb in just for the summer and then getting it down, but i thought i just couldn't go through with it in the end but yeah. How did it look quite good? That'S him. I think you'd shoot it. You know i've had loads of different colors in my hair as well, maybe back in the day. I hope. No one knows me on this channel who has photographs of me from back then, because it was pretty atrocious, i'm not going to lie, i mean it was done well, but i just didn't look good with it mate. It was um, it was the beckham days. It'S 2006, so it was the kind of david beckham mohawk world cup days, and it was just there. I don't know, but i thought it looked great so at the time anyway, so i'm going to work into the sides. I really want to soften this now over a really soft finish again, it's that area of when you know it was very soft everything all the edges are nice and a lot of movement wasn't a lot of texture. It was more just like the way it felt was very, very soft on the edges and things. So that's why i haven't done the the taper too tight or anything i'm trying to be as true to the image as i possibly can now what i'm gon na do, i'm just gon na let this down a touch and i'm gon na dry, a bit of Grooming cream into i want to give it a very soft finish to there. Okay, this needs to be a little bit damp now, a little bit of grooming cream. Is this one? I don't need an awful lot. This is by baxter, california. I do i'll work this into the hair now like so again. This is application. This isn't styling yet, okay, what is it like? Is this just kind of like free yeah? I feel like it's. It'S a pre-styler yeah. So what i'm gon na do? I'M gon na try this in to give you a very nice kind of um softer feel to the hair, so the hair falls a bit softer as well. Okay, i think you just let that fall naturally like that and let it fall over and that's the closest you can get to that style on your hair texture. I think we could just finish it off with a little bit of powder, just to kind of have that that finish on there really to make it look as natural as possible. I think that's actually bang on that's like the closest haircut very often whatever is it? Okay, great great, perfect yeah. I'M really pleased that it looks great because when you see the sides in a sec, you'll see the shape and everything yeah um. Let me put a little bit of powder in just to give it a bit of a little tiny bit of hold, so you think, like down. Four are going forward. This is what i should be using like for this look: yeah yeah, yeah yeah, because you're just looking to have something that's going to give you a bit of definition. Really! That'S all you! That'S all you really need. I have to play nation at home. Oh yeah play nation is good yeah, it's okay! It'S just it's just because it's because it's a because it's a powder, it's a little bit softer right. So you you don't have as much kind of weight within the hair. So what you'll find is that this will just sit a bit easier for you, it'll sit a little bit. It won't be as you want it to be a bit a bit of height in there. Nothing too major, but you just want a little bit of hold in there really and that's what you're really looking for something. That'S going to give you a little bit of a little bit of definition, because it is quite a grungy. Look anyway, isn't, if you think about it, like you know what i mean it is so a clay would probably work quite nicely, but i think, if you add something that was just a bit more like that, i think it just brings out all this all the Sections so you start to see the length you've actually got left in there more than it being like. You know, it was a combined together like it's. It sometimes is you know you just run your fingers through and just make it look like the photograph. You know make it look worn in a little bit there we go and then there you go and then there is the size in the back. So it's cut in, but you've got the heaviness at the top and through the sides, spot yeah. So you've got the weight simulation in there and then just tapers in again, very soft, nothing major just like the photograph really is best. I could really yeah it's absolutely bad. Yeah thanks man, that's great! Thank you. So much you're very welcome. Thank you. Man. That'S good best haircut. I'Ve ever got foreign

brocktonsss: its nice to see more natural styles like this one coming back into trend

Blayne: Great haircut. Style-wise, I preferred what he came in with. But Dan totally delivered on the photo.

ThatJewishKid11: Damn he really did look like Ryan’s character in A Place Beyond The Pines. Especially the circus festival scene and the cigarette smoking scenes the hair was almost exactly the same only difference is Ryan’s had longer sideburns. This cut was great !

Mr. S.: The haircut uses the strengths of the model’s wavy texture hence the result is awesome. It’s a style that he will be able to reproduce at home easily.

Terrie Griffith: Awesome as always. I love how you take the time to consult and discuss 1st, instead of just rushing into cutting. He looks good and seemed to be happy. I love watching your scissor work. You are a true hair master. Much love.

Kristin K: Love watching your videos, they are so informative, step-by-step and calming. Could you do a short video on how you hold your scissors when cutting straight and when adding softness or texture?

John Adam: Perfect haircut and style for this client! Good job again Dan!

Daniel Guerrero González: Its very good to see your videos because its very relaxing and the vibes you had. Good work man keep on

Nigel Andrews: Sharp haircut, spot on. See you Friday for the next challenge

Liliana Gonzale Ortiz: El señor debería explicar el corte tanto para el cliente como para los estilistas que vemos los diferentes técnicas

AVDRE: Awesome channel and content! I think if the room had some acoustic treatment it could help the audio alot. Cheers

Ciclopea2: Less like young Sean Penn and more like Ryan Gosling, definitely an improvement

MCKIKI: I see a few people commenting about how this style didn’t work out because of his hairline (I don’t see anything wrong with it) My hairline is much more receded than his and I could certainly pull this off. Although, my hair is extremely thick so that really helps me in terms of styles (you can see on my avatar), the only style I can’t pull off is the slicked back look but I don’t like greasy hairstyles anyways (totally not envious ) A slightly receding hairline doesn’t really affect styling as much as poor density. The reason his style might have not been what he expected is because his hair is very fine and straight even with thickening powder in it. Got2b does a great Matt product that comes in an orange tub, my friend who has the thinnest hair ever uses it and it make his hair super thick and he can pull off so many styles using it! I think his hair looked great in the end, Dan seems to adapt extremely well to a persons hair situation telling them what is and what isn’t possible but in the end gives the client something they can confidently sport! I actually think after a few weeks of growth he’ll have the style he was after (I know it’s an old video)

Andy Grontkowski: I love watching you work!

Gustavo Pereira da Silva: He's literally me.

RJ Carter: This is one who looked much better before the haircut. I'm not a fan of the "cookie cutter" haircuts.

Lost Without Her: 19:06-19:13.....sorta looks like Emperor Augustus........If you freeze the image at any point, it has the makings of a fine Carrara marble bust. Forward is a great classic direction for his hair. You can see the texturing and definitely a double thumbs up on the length on the sides and nape of the neck. Btw, anyone else taking pause to marvel at the blond highlights or if they're natural? Smh.

erikpiupiu: sorry, i don't know english, i use google translate. is this a side part haircut?

Steve Janowiak: Amazing! As usual.

Danchris345: Seeing a really short summer haircut would be amazing

K Wave: AMAZING job!

Dannsandiego: Nailed it!

Jim Boyle: Preferred it longer. Great hair colour

Garrett Meadows: American barbers always rush haircuts for the sake of quantity. They aren't particularly interested in quality. That's why I like barbers from overseas.

Michael Michael: I don't know what you guys are on about I think it looks good and suits him well

Mr cutz: Looks

Dontblinkoryoullpoop: american here, i recognize the look of a man who is insecure af about his hairline. good on him, i wouldn't be caught dead in a barber chair, i hate my hairline

Garret Eckman: Love this my man

Pradeep: Really amazing !!

crazymusicman13: His face looks so much more masculine with this cut.

Jerry G: Should have left a little bit longer for the look he was going for.

kylemcgriff: Talented to say the least

Zack: he's literally me

RobJJ: Class as always,, man

T: What do u suggest, clip number size for a skull shape that is flat from the top crown??

Devonshire: anybody know where i can get the large scissors?

Daniel Bell: Says the fringe is level with the eyes Then gives him a fringe half way up his forehead lol

Rekan D: 8:00 there was a story there to be told

no name: Good haircut. Great movie

guillaume Charoy: #Master of Clipper over COmb !

Neil F: Dan Stans unite!

Dylan W.: What brand of shears are those?

ya Boy Jonez: Why does he have a tattoo on his face in the thumbnail lmao

Daniel Bell: Wanted Ryan Gosling Came out looking like Pob

Liam Hannam: Nothing like Ryan’s haircut, too short everywhere

ちゃん しゅう: Very Very good 。!✨✨✨✨✨

D A: Hmmm, looks like a bowl cut

sean Murphy: Pure Irish!

Hansel Indenbirken: Nice!!!!

Emily Tolman: awesome!

kj & jp vitalis: He got the haircut but he don't got the look

Wan Huar: Hey dan try to pickup some stoenger clipper cuz this chinesee one hurts my earsxd

Khalid Othman: Better before...the way I see it

Vörös Péter: Correction: Sigma male haircut

Steve Baker: Nope! Doesn’t suit him. Too blocky on the sides. And his hair somehow looks thinner. Barber kept saying “ best I could do mate” almost apologising

Really Matheson: The man is a magician What’s your waiting list like ? ‍♂️.. I need you in my hairs life

haykal al: Scouser accent?

UnformedBog9059: Jesus loves you!!

Butch Cassidy: He came in with a glorious mane and has walked away with the most boring haircut. Dan should of advised to keep the length on top so it still parts and just trim the back and sides. He's left him with a 10 year old boys scruffy fringe there's no style to it at all. Terrible cut if we're being honest.

Clorify: before was better

Zero Continent: Before was much better, too short haircut.

You’re Amazing!! 🥰🫶: How can get in contact with you? , I'd like you to cut my hair.

Morty: Bro is holding back tears

CJ Shandy: Bryan Gosling
