God, who gave me permission to be this gorgeous, I can't take it YouTube before we dive in. We have serious business Jerry come here. It'S been brought to my attention that no one has recognized Jared. Come sit right here, Jared come here. Look at this space he's the literally like our director. Our bees are he's our he's. Our YouTube Sensei he's our YouTube. What is your title like you? I don't know because Jared has not been approached for a selfie on the street. Yet, as per the let's make Jared a YouTube famous person, hashtag challenge now we're going to turn into a giveaway. So this is your notice YouTube the person that finds Jared first and takes a selfie with him. Here'S the thing, though it has to make it on Jared's feed. So if you're weird to Jared, if you were like too aggressive honey, it might not make it on the feed. So you got to be nice. You know what I'm saying it can't be too much. You know what I'm saying like you got: ta be like chill about it, but you're gon na find the space and you're gon na say: oh my God are you Jared? Can we take a selfie and then you're gon na take a selfie, it's gon na make it to speed and then that person's gon na win an entire line of jbn hair, not just like one product, not just like two but the entire Lane. Can you handle it Jared I'll give them hints, hence in La I probably most frequent, erwan Silver Lake. Is that too much are you gon na get stalked? I don't think so. Okay and Equinox Glendale, okay, that's done Dale, uh and then I'll be in New York. A lot in the fall hashtag, let's make Jared an internet, celebrity famous selfie challenge too no one's gon na mess up that long, hashtag Jared. If that gets cut, you know I won't. I won't tolerate it. Welcome back to my YouTube channel, it's Jonathan Van Ness, and today we are talking about the 10 things I would never do to my hair. Foreign thing I would never do to my hair is: do a bleach and tone for a long period of time. Bleach and tones are like destination, Hair Care things like, especially for me having dark hair. If your hair is like dark brown or black, and you want to have like long healthy hair - we're not bleaching toning for years, it's kind of like a one and done like take Kim K. You'Re, not gon na see her rocking this bleach and tone forever. She'S gon na have to go back down to her natural color at some point her hair's just going to crack off, because you can't do all those retouches and keep your hair healthy over a long period of time. Foreign updos or tight tight knots when the hair is wet. That'S not good. It would like cause like traction alopecia and make my hair break off. So, if I ever want to do a really really slick back bun or like a slick slick, look you actually dry. The hair all the way, then you apply gel or a foam or whatever you're, going to use to like really get that like wet look going, but we never actually do that on wet hair. Another thing I would never do to my hair is use coconut oil as a moisture mask or really like use, coconut oil at all. On my hair and you're like why I've like heard people say it's great. Well, here's the thing for very specific types of hair that have been through very specific things: coconut oil like can be okay, but usually for the vast majority of people. Coconut oil is not great on the hair. Why? Because it's a medium chain, fatty acid, so because it's a medium chain, fatty acid, the size of it does not easily go into the cortex of the hair or past the cuticle. It really sits on the outside, and so what it does is it builds up on the outside of the hair in such a heavy way that when you go to use like heat, styling products or any other like hair products, it's hard for them to penetrate and Become effective because you have this like thick shellacking of oil around the hair, it can actually also be like kind of aggressive on the scalp and kind of coating to the scalp, because it's that medium chain, fatty acid, so coconut oil on your body. That'S fine! But on your scalp, no, no! No! It'S just a little bit too sensitive. The follicles are a little bit too fine to be putting such like a big fatty acid on it. You could create like congestion in your hair follicles, and it's just like not good for overall scalp health, so definitely say no to the coconut oil. It is not your friend like that and another thing. I never I'm sorry, because this is serious. Okay, uh, even if I'm like on a desert island and there's like no hair ties and I'm so frustrated by my hair, never use rubber bands on your hair. We'Re only using like hair ties right. Rubber bands are going to pull they're gon na, like like pull the hair out, can cause hair breakage. It'S like too much tension and just like that rubber, like right on the hair. It'S just like you just hear that noise, it's like ooh, we hate it, definitely need like an elastic or like a satin or like a silk scrunchie or, like you know, hair elastic, that's made for elastic uh and even just like hair elastics. If they're applied, like super close to the scalp and like really little sections and like super duper, tight all the time like, if you're doing like those little like teeny tiny, like a bunch of little tight little ponytails like that's, also not great. So just like too much tension, never great yeah and definitely never rubber bands. Another thing I would never do to my hair ever not a million years ever Black Box color never like. I would never use it never ever unless your hair is like, naturally black and I mean like black, like dark, like the color of this, like skims honey like black, you know like the bowl like midnight black and unless you are like buying to always have your Hair really really dark, never do box color, because when it bleaches out it's super red. It'S super orange. It takes multiple times it's really hard to get out of the hair evenly like. I cannot tell you the amount of like clients, like hundreds of clients over my career, that did Black Box color and, like it takes years to correct, like unless you cut your hair, really short and you just kind of start over from scratch. It'S really a huge commitment and also like black box color is the same as like textile dye with like peroxide. It'S like the peroxide opens the cuticle and then it's not hair color. It'S textile dye that so many box, colors use some use, hair, color and like better ingredients, but some are like literally textile dye and they're in direct dyes, and that's like why it's so hard to get them out of the hair later, because they don't act like Hair color so like black box color is not your friend and that happy lady on the box honey. She probably got paid like a lot to do that photo shoot and it was probably a wig to be honest, and so just don't do it. They can be all sorts of tombolery on those black hair color boxes. Another thing I would never do to my hair - and this is due to experience - is never use sun in and I would never do like lemon juice. It seems fine, it seems cute uh, but really like. You can't control the color that your hair is going to end up at because sun in and lemon juice like they only stop when they dry, and it depends like how hot the sun is. It depends on how hot you get so there's no like defined end destination, it could be cute and it could also be like blaring orange, like orange, from a crayon box like oranger than the day is long like the orangest orangest orange. It'S a no mm-hmm. You know another thing I never do with my hair is I don't wash my hair in like scolding hot steamy shower, like obviously I love a hot shower just as much as the next person, but what I'll do is I put my hair on top of my Head when I get into the shower, so I go in with like a little loose crunchy, and I give you like this like getting into the shower. I'M like I love showers and then I might even sing like Renaissance. You know like I might sing a little cuff it. I might sing a little alien Superstar. It might be like unique, I don't know, and then I get in the shower and then I'm gon na wash my hair or I wash my body like you know the nice hot water, but then I'll turn the heat down to more warm. Then we wash the hair in warm water, then I might apply my conditioner, oh well. I will apply my conditioner like not under the shower. Obviously, because that's counterproductive, it's like we kind of step out of the shower. Put our conditioner on put it back in a little bun, then I'll like wash my face wash the body, then we switch the water to cool. I take my body away from the shower and then I just rinse my head because it's like I hate getting my whole body all cold with the cold water, but it's great for your hair to end in a cold rinse. This is especially true for. Let me just make sure my hair is so cute and it is because I can't help actually blow up milk style memory. I can't help it. I can't help it. It'S true put on your hair again. You know it's so hard for me to work when I'm so pretty wash with warm rinse with cool and that's especially true if you're someone who has like color treated hair, if you have like bright colors like pinks, Blues yellows purples like those kind of brighter colors Or if you're someone who's like not naturally a redhead and you go red you just it's really hard to preserve hair color when you take really really hot showers like just like rinse, your hair in really hot water every day. Another thing I would never ever do. I never jump into a pool with my hair dry. I always wet my hair down. First then, I put conditioner on my mid lengths and ends or I'll do like leave-in or I'll. Do our complete conditioning Mist on the mid lengths and ends, but your hair is a lot like a sponge. So if you jump into a pool with dry hair, it's going to soak up all the chlorine, all the chemicals all the stuff. That'S in that pool water, but if you wet your hair down first in, like your shower or like a little like pool, shower and then put conditioner on there, it's going to be harder for that water and the chemicals and the chlorine to seep into the hair. So it really creates a buffer. It helps keep the hair healthy. That'S like why my hair, like looks so good like after summer, every year, such a good trick. Another thing I never do with my hair is start round, brushing it when it's like soaking soaking wet a lot of times when people go wrong with learning how to round brush your hair, it's because they start round brushing the hair when it's like super duper, wet And it's going to create too much tension. It'S going to pull too much and your hair isn't going to get dry and you're going to get frustrated and just like abandon so for my hair texture, which is kind of like a 2C like in most places. But I have like some 3A moments like on my edges. For me, I get my hair to about like 50 60 dry before I start to round brush if you're someone who has like 3B 3C for A4 b4c hair, like the more textured your hair, gets the more wetness I like to leave in the hair before I Round brush, so if your hair is super textured, I do leave it a little bit wetter, because if you rough dry it too much it's going to start to get frizzy at the end result. But if you're someone who has like one a to 2C, you really really want to get a lot of that moisture out either with like a towel or like a cotton t-shirt before you start to round brush the hair. Oh and obviously before you start to round brush you're going to rough dry you're, just like the blow dryer just minding your own business. So that's that another thing I never do with my hair ever so annoying to me, I just I hate to cuss at you guys, but this is serious. I hate it when I never do this. I don't like rough dry, my hair without intention, like I'm, not just like blow drying my hair willy-nilly, like blow drying it this way and blow drying it this way and like getting it all up like when I'm rough drying it you know like today. I knew I wanted my hair smooth and like blown out, so that means when I was rough drying to get the moisture out before we round rush. We were like taking my hair like this and rough drying. It like this, you know pulling the hair down like everything, has a purpose towards where you're going. So if your hair is going to live down blown out you're going to blow dry your hair down you're, not gon na like rough it up now, there's a little caveat to that, like you could, like flip your hair, totally upside down and like rough dry, it Upside down, because you want to get volume but you're, not gon na, like really be going like against the grain of the hair. Oh actually, because that's literally the thing you never blow dry against the grain of the hair so because, when you're flipping your hair upside down and blow drying it like this, the cuticle is still like fish scales or, like you know, tree barks. So, if you're flipping her over then blow drying like this you're still blow drying with the cuticle, because the cuticle is going down. But if your hair is upright like this, you need to blow dry like down with the cuticle, because it's going downwards, it's not going upward. So if you blow dry against the cuticle you're going to create frizz, it almost like back comes the hair with the blow dryer. So you want to think about what the hairstyle you're going for is at the beginning and then rough dry, your hair. Accordingly. Another thing I do not do with my hair is stylus top. There is like one person in New York who can cut my hair uh, there's like two people in La so like total, there's like three people who I go to for haircuts when I need them. I'Ve been going to them for years, I know exactly who they are. They know who I am they've done, my hair a lot. I typically think the best hair happens when you have a relationship with your hairdresser. They know what your style is. They know how you kind of carry yourself. They know what you do for a living and especially like, as we've talked about before in this video, always always have a consultation, we're never like, jumping in and just like, with a new stylist and being like do whatever you want really. This is like the ultimate sense of a collaboration and a lot of times. It takes a stylist, at least like two times as styling your hair, to really understand like how your hair Works, how your personality works and to get like the best result. So if you don't really ever give a stylist a chance and you're always going to someone else, you kind of end up being the common denominator. You know what I'm saying so, if you're always frustrated with your hair and you always feel like everyone messes it up. Try finding someone doing a thorough consultation and stick with them for at least three four appointments before you jump ship YouTube. I hope that was as good for you as it was for me, because I had so much fun. I lived my very best life. Thank you. So much for supporting the channel, we love you so much. I will see you next time, thanks for coming bye,

your smoke alarm failed: super helpful tips! i get scared about damaging my hair so it's nice to know what is and isn't a problem.

Constanza Pastenes Vega: Hi Jonathan! I am 31 years old and have had depression for more than half of my life. But I feel that I forget all the bad things when I watch QE and your videos, you are a magical person, you can't imagine the joy you bring me, I would love to meet you for just 5 minutes to be happy and keep that memory forever. Thank you for brightening up my bad days with your magic

Kewliope Jones: Love this video. I’ve been a hairdresser for over 20 years but I still didn’t realize some black box dyes were textile dyes… only that they’re the enemy you learn something new every day!

Christina K: Me, working from home, to my cats when I see a new JVN video..."Boys, Chrissy's going to learn something new today!" Thank you, Professor! Love and a happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! ❤️

Linda Love: I keep learning from you! This was great. I had a “vegan” straightening treatment that had “citrus” in it, aka lemon juice. Turned my brown hair bright orange! Can’t wait to learn more from you about the abc’s and 123’s of hair texture in a future video. Super confusing to me. Thanks so much!

Meechmo: Love your videos! I’d love to see videos on refreshing a blowout without having to wash your hair again AND your thoughts on blow dryer brushes. Thanks hunny!! ❤

Lizzie_YogiOnTheCouch: Thank you! These are all so useful. The hair tip in your last video about using the wide tooth comb with the deep conditioner was a game changer for my hair ❤ sending you so much love from over here in Australia

Dawn Gooden: I just bought a bunch of your products and I am so excited to use them! I have fought with my hair for forever, and it would be amazing to finally turn this mess into something amazing. <3

Jenifer Stewart: What do you recommend for those of us going through it with our hair? I’m currently having a UCTD flare and my hair is falling out. Hoping prednisone will get it under control, but yikes.

Ro Guerra: I always say this, but thank you for your tips. And putting in the time and effort to make this. They are extremely helpful! You are the best! Love you!

MsBellydancediva: Ohhhhh I'm sooooo guilty of the rough drying without purpose and then my hair ends up a frizzy mess.....thanks for this video!!!

TeaSizedBeauty: Love these videos so much! It’s so helpful. When thinking about slicked back hairstyles. it made me wonder about braiding. I have 2A hair so what I do is shower put leave in and curl defining cream in and braid my hair in 2 Dutch braids when it’s still mostly wet, that way in 1-2 days I can take it out and have nice waves. Do you think that’s okay or should I be braiding my hair dry? I do this 1-2 times a week.

jenny hamel: JVN! I have been noticing lately in your IG stories and YT vids that you have just looked EXTRA stunning. Like your hair and skin are on point - you're absolutely glowing and I just thought you should know how pretty you look

Vida: I purchased your pre wash scalp oil and love it! Your videos are so helpful and your personality is so fun! Would I be able to leave in the oil overnight or is that bad for my hair? I have dry scalp and thick wavy hair. Thank you!

Kaela Valdez: i always look forward to every tuesday <3 thank you for making these super nice videos! i love the hair care line and you and everything!

Haley Whitten: GUILTY AS CHARGED….. I did a dark “golden” brown on top of my dark ish hair, it was gorgeous. And yes indeed it fades to a copper red color….. Lmfao guys please don’t do it. I’m currently growing out my hair from this color and I’ve done it multiple times because the dye color is gorgeous but the d Fading is not. Go see a stylist pleaseeeeee. Back when I was like 18 maybe I had my mom do a box red dye that took in a skunk streaks, and I ended up getting my hair dyed one shade below, black out a stylus because they could not get the red out… And the black Done by the stylist came out this gorgeous, rich chocolate brown when it faded versus the dark brown box dye I did, fading into a copper orangey red.

Nayru’s Love: Amazing content as always!!! This made me feel like I take pretty good care of my hair I have a question: would you do Brazilian blowouts or similar keratin treatments?? The concept of it being melted into the hair sort of trips me out, but I want that protection, flow, and shine!!

Michaela Lindsay: You're so positive and a joy to watch, great advice as always

Ally Shaw: Great advice as always! The tips about properly rough drying are going to be particularly helpful!

Hunnymel: I just ordered a whole bunch of JVN products, including the scalp oil! I'm so excited. I love what your brand stands for. I am confused however, as on your JVN website the pre-wash scalp oil does state quite high on the ingredients list: Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil. Is it ok in formulations rather than stand-alone, raw coconut oil?

The Darling Deb: Back when I was 19, I put “Sun In” on my natural dark brown hair it turned Orange so don’t do it. Great tips!

Emily Marino: I love these tips!!! Do you have any recommendations for someone who is suffering from trichotillomania and is trying to regrow their hair? Thank you!!!!

Michelle Taylor: Love this video theres always something new to learn. Even the hubby listens in xx

Braden Roberts: Love this! Can we please have a tutorial on some beautiful makeup things? I love how natural your look is!

Kianat Khan: I really love JVN content . Very informative and to the point . Great job . ❤

avlsoc: Brilliant tips but tip #9 could be a game changer for me. Never heard someone say never rough dry against the grain of the hair. It makes so much sense to avoid frizz when you want a straight look. Can't wait to try it out!

Ana Herrera: First time watching a video on this channel and love it! Timely to say the least. I just got out of the shower and had it up in a tight bun...ahhhhh I have never taken my hair out of a bun so quickly LOL

Dylan Gentner: Mind blown at the pool tip! I will now be the gal bringing my travel sized conditioner to all the pools next summer Would you say that we should approach the ocean the same way?

Shalene Yaskowich: Question: What are your recommendations for preserving your hair during hot yoga? Kind of the same for swimming in a pool? Eg apply conditioner beforehand?

Chris Myers: Thanks for sharing these tips! I'm new to using JVN products and absolutely love them for my natural curls.

Josefine: Shortly after I got my psoriasis diagnosis, my (former) hairdresser advised me to use pure coconut oil as a mask on my scalp. It made everything sooooooo much worse, and I won't say that that was what caused my hair loss to spiral out of control, but it certainly didn't help. Another hairdresser I used to go to actually scraped off all flakes, saying that would help. In reality, he made the inflammation of my scalp way worse, and my scalp burned for days and washing my hair was agony. To this day, I am terrified of trying new things when it comes to my hair and scalp (even if I know that my routine isn't ideal for my hair type. I just stick with it because at least it doesn't make my psoriasis more painful and cause it to fall out, you know)

Ella Ougrik: Never change sweet Jonathan. You made me laugh, and I learned some new tips and tricks. Thank you.

redfirebelle belle: Very informative on all the tips. And I totally relate to the hot shower situation lol Thank you JVN!

rachel sobota: Just bought my first JVN hair products on Black Friday!!! I’m so excited to try this line I just got a fresh color and I can’t wait for these to enhance my hair!

Emmaline1986: Love love love you, the content you create and share with us all and of course Jer~bear!! ☺️ I'm curious to know which dry shampoo (if any, store bought or diy) you would recommend?? Perhaps jvnhair has one in the works?? Spill the tea please! Lots of love from O'Canadaaaa ❤️

Jenna Schmidt: Hilarious and informative as always. Love your videos so much ❤

_Ale: Jonathan, I desperately need a video about frizzy hair!!! My hair are always unmanageable and my blowout doesn’t last Lots of kisses from Italy ❤️❤️

Dana: Thank you for these fantastic concepts/advice! You are just a totally FAB teacher!

Christine: I need a tutorial on this eye look!

Fajar Setiawan: this info is HAIR-SAVING. Thank you for the queen to explain this in a super 6 yo simple way.

Katie Powers: JONATHAN! THANK YOU FOR ALL THE FREE PRODUCT! I was one of the winners of the free product boxes in at your Indiana show! I am never using any other products again. They are fire! You also were AMAZING and still are everyday! Love you! - Katie

Valerie Валерия: Gorgeous JVN, gorgeous tips, gorgeous Jared!

Dolly Kaulitz: Thank you for giving us so much helpful advice I didn’t realize how much of this stuff I was doing. Can you tell me, what can I do to color my hair if I can’t use black box dye anymore? I’ve had my hair bleached for about a year now and I need to give her a break to heal, should I use a black semi permanent? I’m Mexican so my hair is very very dark brown almost black

Gabrielle Umphres: I'm learning !! I've never been one that's able to make slick back pony and I saw somewhere that you're supposed to put gel in wet for that so thank you for debunking this!

Amy Darmody: Pretty sure I won't be bumping into Jared any time soon living in rural Michigan, but I fully support making him an internet celebrity!! JVN you are amazing as always and I am living for your products as well!

Austin: The makeuuuup. Face card never declines Also, we love Jare and would appreciate a skincare routine from him because he’s actually glowing.

Rachel Gibbs: You are the MOST gorgeous and thank you for these tips!!...I have committed the crime of rough drying AGAINST the grain of my 3A-3B curls , thus making them frizzy AF.

sallie bijou: since cold rinsing helps seals the cuticle, should we still do it if we apply penetrating products after showering? especially for low porosity hair like mine

Natalie Uygan: I love your videos !! (Like always ) and the tips are so helpful! Also please please do a make up tutorial!

megan calista: Love your hair care series AND line. Have slowly been switching to JVN everything and my hair is happier for it!! Is there ever gonna be a clarifying shampoo in the works?

Karen Bee: Hi Jared! Thats super sweet of JVN. #MJF Thank you for bringing us all that magic, Jared. My hair is thick, so flipping to dry it always gave me this long mushroom shape of volume. I never tease my hair to style it. I always put my hair up to sleep, like I’ll use flat long clips to secure it wrapped, braid it, or clip it in a bun. I just hate to flat iron my hair with my own body while I sleep. I normally use Bobby pins to secure hair, but recently I’ve been using the tiny butterfly clips to hold my loose bun. They’re easier to find when ya wanna take em out. I love Scrunchies so much, but they don’t stay up there without clips or pins. Use a tiny butterfly clip under ur pony for a free bump and extra security. I always finger comb wet hair, but I’ll brush my hair in a parking lot before I go in somewhere. The dollar store has travel size. Oh and I wash my brushes too. I use the plastic teeth brushes, which I think are most like fingers. People say to work ends to top, but u should section ur scalp and work in box braid sized sections tip to root. Make sure u carefully untangle ur nape area cause sweat and shifting around can really make a nest outa that area and it’s easy to overlook

rsplmr: It’s lovely watching you again. I really love your videos ✨ You are SO nice

Linda Carol: Oh my god, where to start. 1. Jared is adorable and has the sweetest smile. 2. You look so gorgeous. 3. I am totally guilty of washing my hair in steaming hot water, never thinking twice about it...until now! 4. I rough dry my hair all the time for volume because I have layers...again, never thought about it until now. 5. I love your videos, etc. so much; you are an awesome teacher - thank you!!

Jenifer Stewart: Can Jared do a tour? I would recognize him in a minute if he was in Atlanta.

Maryam Saf: Been going to the same hairstylist for 10 years, great video.

Yh Jeng: Love these tips, useful and informative. Love love love

Colleen Joudrey: As a young teen I spent 5+ hours a day in the pool daily and used to use Lemon juice mixed with olive oil when I was waiting on the deck between classes, lol. My hair was already red from iron rich well water and excessive sunlight, the faux lighteners and green hue from the chlorine was just icing on the hot mess cake.

Vassag Baghboudarian: Thank you gorgeous human for teaching us all the beauty ways…and how stunning is Jared…? I can’t believe…

Sandro Kozlovski: thank you very much for this it so helpful cause my sister was loosing her hair so she of course first visited her doctor then she stared doing everything you recomended like sampoo with no sulfate and how to wash your hair she stopped using the heat and the results are great so thank you very much

Phyllis D: You don’t need permission to be gorgeous because you just are!

Elle Grant: Okay but can we talk about how gorge you are? Loving this look! ❤

Alexandra Nicole: Thank you! In the process of finding a new stylist since my old one moved across the country. Your hair looks gorgeous, but that eye makeup!

heartcenteredseedling: JVN will you recommend a coconut oil alternative??? I must admit I'm guilty of doing this in the past as I occasionally need a deep conditioning treatment. That was such a convenient already in the cupboard option

Sierra Hunter Lewis: ALWAYS SO happy to have time with YA'LL to start my Day !!! P.S JARE BEAR must come to VEGAS for a SELFIE!!! MOMMA LOVES YOU HONEY!!!!

Kristin Riberdy: I live and die by my stylist. She really has my hair on lock.

Maggie Mae: Jonathan, you’re glowing. ❤❤ loving you and your content!

Hrist889: omg i love your hair and its color!! it looks so healthy!

Jennifer McCoy: I have been using your products and ONLY your products since they hit the shelves.. my stylist is amazed that every time I see her all I need is a light dusting! I will never use anything else ! Thank u for your tips and for creating such amazing products. My daughter is transitioning MtF and I have introduced her to your channel. She is learning so much about how to care for her hair! Thank u for being a light in the world!

Lauren Lopreste: Any advice on protecting your hair from the sun? Does hair UV protection work? Thanks!

Grace White: Can you tell me if this is bad? I get mixed reviews. My hair tangles easily throughout the day and to detangle it, I prefer to use a wet brush and brush it in the shower when I have conditioner in. It's just so much easier to brush with conditioner, but I'm afraid that you aren't supposed to brush your hair when it's wet. Help :)

Sonya Beckett: ❤ Felt like I was playing bingo… learned a lot of these the hard way.

Jennie Siegel: So… many… things… wrong. Thanks for the info Johnathan- I’ll be trying to do better! ❤

Samantha Cole: We need a tutorial on the makeup look!!!

Dana Stirling: I used to use coconut oil on my hair because everyone on youtube back then said it was great for curly hair, for the first day it was great, the next day my hair got so dry an felt like straw, the more I put on the drier it got until I washed it out

L L: What is your advice regarding henna in hair? Is it overly damaging if done properly? I'm curious because it is a "natural" product

Donna Kaye: Thank you for the information, love it

Tammy Scott: I warned my son about box black die, but he didn't listen and found out that he hated having black hair, he was a sandy blonde. He didn't get it out until boot camp and they shaved it all off. When I was a teenager, I used Sun In and lemon juice with peroxide. Lucky for me it just lightened my hair, no orange

Natalie Gibson: So I had a wonderful experience with lemon juice but I soaked a cotton round in it and the pulled highlights around my face and part, and only wet those pieces. Seriously looked great!

LoNBub: Hey JVN, Hey Jare, Hey Patty! Happy Turkey Day and stuff-ing

Ariel Wilson: Jonathan is looking beautiful! Their skin and hair are looking so youthful and flawless

Cindy Schulte: Love your videos! Love you! Can't wait to purchase your products! Yay

Sarah Jane Mendes: OMG the elastic band gives me flashbacks to PE classes in school, where if you forgot your hair tie they'd never have spares, just elastic bands. NOT OK. I have such thick hair but I felt like 70% came off with the elastic band (ok...maybe slight exaggeration...but still TRAUMATIC!)

Melissa Bedasee: Great video! Super informative. My hair is fine, wavy dark brown hair. I do highlights once a year.and hair cut twice a year.I have very little amount of hair right now, not too sure why.. Should stop highlights for. while? And more regular haircuts?

Ti Gq: Turning 54 in a few days. Use good scrunchies ✔ Haven't colored in forever✔ Don't blow dry or rarely✔ I've seen the same stylist for 22 years, but dont go often. But I'm going gray fast! Loss of hair is to much besides a good cut, what type of shampoo & conditioner should I use?

Dani L: Jared is so cute, if I was in America I would totally stalk him Thanks for the tips JVN, i used to stylist hop, not by choice but because I couldn’t find a hairdresser I liked. But once I did I stuck with them, freaked out when they left the salon I went to but thankfully found them again (totally not a stalker lol) and they’ve never given me a bad hair cut! ‍♀️ Hope Jared gets internet famous soon

Miranda Hein: So informative!! What ponytail holder material do you suggest IN the shower? And any healthier alternatives to those little bands??

Elisabeth Gold: Loooove you! Your advices are just the best thank you JVN

luckyDancer100: Question- is there a right way to towel dry hair? I always see people wear those towel twisties on their head, but I can never get mine to stay put. It starts slipping the minute I walk around. Is just patting/squeezing out water fine?

adelaamarante: Two Things: 1.) Sun-In did me in as a teen. What can I say? It was the cool kid thing to do at the ti. As a person with incredibly dark and curly hair--when that hot @$$ mess *FINALLY* started to grow out? It looked like I had flames shooting up from my tips. Never again, folks. 2.) I worked as a vintage vehicle mechanic.....with waist length hair. Sometimes my hair ties would break. *NO RUBBER BANDS!* They are horrible for your hair. A 16 penny nail, wrap your hair up french-twist style, use the nail to secure it, then put a bandana over your head a la Rosie the Riviter. It only took one time having a chunk of my hair cut out of a drive shaft with a pocket knife to learn that lil' trick. ***Just my two pennies on the situation.*** As always, JVN, you are an inspiration and a love and you exude kindness and love. This world does not deserve your greatness. But we *NEED* you, sweetie! Keep being awesome!! ❤️

PattyLDN: thank you so much for these tips JVN!

ELIAZAR PARTIDA: Awesome video. You answered alot of my questions. Thank you. I tried using coconut but oil and it made my hair crunchy n dry. What is a good oil for hair that is che.ically damaged?? I

Yegor Morozov: thanks for heplful tips! could u also give some recomendations for people like me who like to air dry their hair? thanks for all the content u making

Sam Dalton: JVN I know you have 1000000000 things to do, but can I ask a v quick question?! I'm a dark brunette who has started gray-ing, just a little streak, like a baby Cruella (with less evilness!) Should I go darker all over to cover it or should I go multi browns with maybe a lighter around the face to cover the greys?!? Thanks so much x

Julie Colleran: Hi Jonathan! Can I use your JVN pre-wash scalp oil on my ends too or just stick with it on the scalp?

Snehal Sinha: Thanks for the video. But question is what do I ask the hair stylist in my consultation?

Florence Moss: I’m picky about who touches my hair since I’m growing it out. I go to my (licensed) cousin. I prefer family to touch my hair. Reminds me, I need to go see her again.

Just Today: I can't watch your videos anymore Jonathan!!!!! You're just too GORGEOUS and it hurts my eyes!!!!!! LOL!!! Are you kidding me?? Your videos go perfect with my cup of morning coffee....xoxoxoxo

~danny d~: It seems like the less I think about my hair the better it looks~
