50 Volume Developer! Will It Melt Your Hair Off? Let'S Try It.

Hi Beautiful! I had zero idea that there was 50 volume developer but when I saw it I knew I needed to buy it and test it. The results were shocking.

Don't Forget To Live Your Extra Life.

Hi beautiful - i literally saw this on the sally beauty website and said what the [ __ ] is that i have been professionally licensed as a hairdresser for 10 years. I have never touched a 50 volume developer before every hairstylist. I asked had no idea. This existed in the united states, i know abroad. There are like a hundred volumes, i've heard, but in the us we can go up to 50.. Legally, i'm guessing today. We'Re gon na see what 50 volume developer does. Is it going to fry the hair off in five seconds or is it gon na provide me very nice lift in a very quick amount of time? I'M actually pretty intrigued and excited to try this out. So you guys know i'm a big fan of 30 volume. 40 volume, on the other hand, it's kind of a scary developer. I use this one, mr guy tang. It'S intense. It has been a very long time since i used 40 volume to lighten the hair. Usually the reason why i don't love it is because it lifts very quickly and then it kind of fizzles out very quickly as well and i'm like, where is the rest of it, but now we have a new competitor here. Maybe this one will provide me that extra amount of lift that this one just doesn't quite do it or maybe i'll fall into love with 40 volume or 50 or both, and we might have a throuple, it's 20 22.. Let'S be progressive. Okay, i can be in love with two people at once or two developers in this case. I bet you don't really know what a developer is and what these numbers actually mean. In short, these are hydrogen peroxide developers. It lifts the cuticle layer of the hair and the higher the developer. The more lift you get it basically is the thing that activates diet, permanent color, permanent color and lightener. Without it, none of those things will actually work and will actually last on your hair, you cannot mix bleach powder with water, but this is the stuff that actually makes the job happen. So this number with the v next to it, indicates how much hydrogen peroxide there is in this developer. 40 volume is 12 hydrogen peroxide. Why do we not just say 12? Well, some lines do, but it became the standard to say 40 volume or 30 volume, 2010 volume. Anything like that do i know why no could i find out right now for you, i will one. Second, i have the reason and google has come up with the answer. Every one cubic centimeter of this hydrogen peroxide will produce 40 cubic centimeters of oxygen. The volume is used to define the amount of oxygen present released by the peroxide and we're going to leave it at that and 50 volume is 15 hydrogen peroxide, so a very large amount. We thought this was strong, oh girl, and got some competition. Let'S get bleaching baby, let's fry some hair off. Who is going to be my guinea pig for today i can like hear all the mannequins in the closet like screaming. Please not me and i'm like i like, take one. Oh there you are hi. You are my guinea pig, you lost sorry, you got chosen for a bad video, miss manny quinn, sorry that you have to partake in this. I hope i don't burn your scalp, but i probably will how shall we do this? I'M going to section this b into two sections: i am going to color one side with 40 volume and one side with 50. and see what's going on how's the consistency. Does it feel like it's lifting very quickly? What is the deal? We'Re gon na obviously leave these on for the same amount of time each and do the same exact process for each how's. Your day, miss minnie quinn, you've been stuck in a closet. Sorry about that um, okay, she's a little mad at me. She just started screaming. Oh, you don't want to color your hair blonde. I color all their hair yeah. You guys all do end up blonde. Somehow, unfortunately, you don't have a choice, but thank you for being here. No, you will not be paid. You are quite famous online now, though, so you're welcome, okay, um i'll, be back all right. I'M gon na mix this stuff how i usually mix it eyeballs eating it we're gon na start off with the 30 volume. Yes, i do keep my lightener in um gumball jars, we're gon na. Do a couple of scoopy doops, oh girl. Let'S get our 40 volume in the b in that bowl, let's mix it up, smells delectable, um, guiding developers and lighteners smell. I lied, oh god. Okay, maybe not the 40 volume doesn't smell great. The 30 volume does. Oh, my god. Somebody got me some ventilation, because i can't breathe in here: okay trying to record a youtube video and do this. At the same time, it's not working out great all right. You guys, let's get applying here, we're gon na start from the bottom and work our way up now. Obviously she doesn't have heat coming from her scalp because she is not a real girl, i'm sorry but you're not. I would love for you to be real. No, actually, don't ever become real, i feel like they would definitely murder me and i'm scared. So i have sort of a creamy consistency with my lightener going on and i'm just going to go as fast as possible, making sure i'm applying at the same speed to both sides. That way, we can really test the power of these lighteners and compare them to each other is 50 volume, actually that much more powerful. I just feel like it's not i don't know so far. The experience with the 40 volume the scent went away. So that's good. It was just a burst of toxic ness and now we're good now we're fine, thank god, your boy couldn't breathe. I want to make a prediction: before i get to doing the 50 volume and seeing how that processes, i feel like the 50 volume is really going to burn the hair. It'S not going to be safe. I feel like we're, probably going to see some breakage where i first apply the color and i feel like the 40 volume is going to end up like yellow i'm just feeling, like that's going to be the case. Put your predictions down below before you see the end result. Oh, it is starting to lighten dude. It is already blonde in some spots back here. Oh my god, do you see this? First of all, i am dying. I need ventilation, really bad, but unfortunately, when i film a video, i can't do that. Oh my god, my eyes are burning. My nostrils are on fire. It is really quite blonde back here. I don't know if you can like really see that, but it's blonde and it is warm okay. Let me just cross check this section and finish it off. Okay, let's ventilate this baby before it catches on fire. How about that yeah there you go a little air, a little air in there there you go, let's not start burning. I need a little bit of hair because i want to know how this works. I don't want you to burn off. Oh my god. This is processing so quickly. I'M freaking out. I better get started with the other side before this just melts off. Let'S hope i got everything and if i didn't we're going to ignore it, okay, we got 40 volume on the clock. I don't know how long i'm going to leave this on for, but i want to make it nice and bright white so we'll see how long it takes probably about 45 minutes that took 20 minutes for me to apply that section. So we're gon na do the same thing, but with the 50 volume now, let's start mixing the 50 volume. I'M excited to see what that smell is like. We got my drink of the day here, green tea. Oh my god. The time has come in my life, where i use 50 volume developer. I never thought that would happen. However, i have done crazier things. So, oh, my god, it's like a child lock on here. You have to like push down to open it, which is probably good because we don't want any children. Drinking 50 volume developer would most definitely kill them. Okay, so far, i don't smell anything. Why aren't you burning my face and my nostrils right now there? It is. There'S a set: oh, no, no, no! No! No! Okay! It feels more or less the same. I don't know see. This is what happens my nostrils get burned. I can't tell if it's my nose burnt or the scent is less but right now i can't smell anything. So i'll take it. Oh, i am so excited for this experiment. Oh my god. The 40 volume guys the hair is gon na like fall off soon. I don't trust it. I don't know. I don't use 40 volume. Oh my god. It'S only been like five minutes. This is going to be bright and possibly fall off. I'M actually pretty excited about the 40 volume side, because i just like getting things on really quick and having them done really quick. I don't exactly agree with like the idea of using a lower developer for a longer amount of time to preserve the quality of the hair. If you're lightening the hair you're lightening the hair, so you can either do it quickly and be done with it or you can do it slowly and be done with it get the same result. The only thing is the faster. The hair develops the quicker you have to react, so you cannot leave this on for a long time and you really have to monitor the hair. That is the one thing i will say. That is the difference between using like a 20 volume and a 40 volume like you need to be there to make sure the hair is not stretching more than it should. I should sit down while i do hair more often, this is pretty comfortable. What the hell is this, the secret is this: what all you other hairstyles are keeping from me? Is it lightening? Yet? Yes, it's been on there for a whole three minutes and it's lightening update on my nostrils um. They are definitely gone. I can't smell anything which is good, starting to feel a little loopy doing well. Otherwise, oh every time i look at the 40 volume side i'm like oh, i was expecting it to lift fast, that's another level of fast, oh okay, my nose is burning again behind me and yes, this is sweat on my face. Oh my god. Oh, it is hot as sh. Oh, i thought the other side was hot. This is like. Oh, it's like burning my fingers. Oh, if your hair gets that hot, it doesn't seem like it's safe i've seen so much hair get like slimy and gross after that stage. Where it gets really hot last swipe on the hair and we're done let's air this out before it falls off ow the hair is being eaten alive, so much manny quinn. How do you feel she said her head is on fire and uh? We need to immediately rinse it off, i'm sorry, but that is not possible. We do need to finish the job ma'am. Your hair is blonde, though, and the heat stopped. So that's good. Oh no! No! No! No! Let me start the timer really quick for the 50 volume starting now we have had the 40 volume on for a total of 15 minutes and guys look at these roots. Oh and then this is 50 volume. They are almost the same color on both sides. All right, i'm gon na let the 40 volume sit for another five minutes. I think and we'll check on that and we'll check on the 50. At the same time, see you then, okay, we are still processing. We are 30 minutes in on the 40 volume side and we are 15 minutes in on the 50 volume side. They are actually the same color now, which is interesting. It sort of makes sense, but it's still really cool to me. When shall i rinse this off? I don't know i kind of want to see it snap a little bit, so i might just let it go to like 45 minutes that just feels right, i'll check back in in like 10 minutes. Okay, this is interesting. We'Re starting to see the 50 volume side right here start to expand where the 40 volume side is not. What does that mean? I don't know, but sometimes when it expands, it tends to make me a little nervous. The hair usually tends to not feel great after, but i'm not surprised, it is 50 volume. After all, i mean look at that. It'S like foaming. Let'S take a look inside here. Oh, oh, the hair is still intact. Okay ouch, that was hot. The 40 volume is also still intact all right. It has been 50 minutes since i applied the 40 volume side and it is cooled down completely, i don't think we're gon na get any more lightning going on. I mean i'm sure if i left this on for another two hours, we get a little bit more, but i'm gon na stop it there. I'M gon na say 50 minutes is our max. They are literally the same color, i'm going to rinse off the 40 volume side and then we're going to wait 16 more minutes until the 50 volume side is done. These are our clocks. I will be back once both sides are rinsed off and blow-dried, so we can see the results. Okay, are you ready to see the results? It'S pretty brutal, miss manny quinn come on in she's very embarrassed, so please don't make fun of her on camera. It looks quite nice, i don't know what that is about, but in person there's a lot going on, so we have the 40 volume side over here it lifted nicely. It actually feels okay, it's a little crispy a little dry, but overall, pretty nice lift. We have a little bit of breakage going on, as you can see it's a little over processed on the root, even though she doesn't have heat from her scalp. The hair sitting on top of itself actually does produce heat, so she is seeing a bit more damage on the root section than everywhere else. Now, on to the thing we all came for 50 volume looks fine on the top, but section that shout and we have a lot of damage damage that is not capable of being fixed. Uh. Her hair is falling out from the roots, get that off my finger. Um, yes, her hair is very, very pulverized and damaged. That doesn't mean this is a bad developer, though so, shall we review both sides actually on the top lifted pretty much the same. The heat actually is the thing that broke this hair off. I noticed that all of the breakage is concentrated on the parts that had the most hair layered on top of it, so that heat really pulverized it, which makes sense. I'M not seeing a huge difference on the hair that wasn't heated up. It is like pretty much the same color, which is interesting and they both sat on the hair for 50 minutes. But what this is telling me is obviously that 50 volume is very strong. I don't see like why you would ever need 50 volume when we have 40 volume and it works perfectly fine. If you really think you work fast enough and um, you really have a tough head of hair that is strong and healthy. To start with, maybe consider 50 volume, but i'm not going to say go. Do that because that's scary and i don't want to see you guys with broken hair everywhere. Am i personally going to go grabbing for 50 volume at any point in my life after this likely? No, but maybe i'll somehow find a head of hair. That just looks like 50 volume would be perfect for it and i might use it then, but i literally have no idea when that will be or how that would happen. I was expecting way worse damage than this to happen way quicker, but the lifting power was there and thank you, miss manny quinn for sacrificing your hair. I have to say you look better brunette and i'm so sorry, but today is your last day and you are gon na go in the garbage. You'Ve been great to me, but it's time to retire, i'm sorry. Another mannequin dies on my channel, i'm sorry wow. That was an interesting experiment and i'm glad i got to do it. Maybe you found it interesting. I don't know i found it fun. I never knew 50 volume existed kind of dope to learn about it and try it out. Storm Angelus: A suggestion: Try the 50 vol on a black-haired mannequin. Maybe then we'll see how deep the 50 vol goes into the color removal process.

Brooke Lindsey: I worked at Sally’s for years, as a licensed cosmetologist! We sold gallons of 40 & 50 volume developer to hunters & taxidermists who used it (by itself) to bleach deer skulls white. If anyone else picked it up I would stop them!

Liz: The one thing you forgot to mention that I'm actually extremely surprised wasn't mentioned is the likelihood of chemical burns. I'm a licensed hairdresser and if I can offer one piece of advice to anyone: DON'T EVER USE HIGHER THAN 20 VOLUME FOR ON THE SCALP APPLICATION. 20 volume is the highest strength developer that should ever come into contact with your scalp, 30 volume is pushing it and 40 is basically a guaranteed chemical burn. If you're coloring your hair at home please do so safely and don't forget to do skin tests with any new color you try to make sure you don't have an allergic reaction

Jay J Flores: I use volume 50 for 7 years now I go from level 3 dark brown strong hair coarse hair waves Hispanic hair and it makes me platinum to a level nine immediately with Schwarzkopf bleach. We never had problems with it I simply had put it on the scalp turn advise it if you’re not used to it and I mostly use it when I do my highlights with the cap the best thing ever also when I freestyle paint highlights I wanna see the way to go bleaching it twice with a 40 is more damaging than using a volume 50 if your hair is thick enough if I leave it in for 60 minutes I get to platinum stage pale yellow 10

T: Once when I was getting my hair bleached, we were almost done the proccess and my hair stylist noticed she missed a spot RIGHT in the front on my bangs. So she dabbed it with a little bit of 50 vol and it lightened right up in 5 minutes. LOL so I think it's more useful for spot touch ups than applying it over the entire head.

Alex Gatto: I'm pretty shook that Brad didn't know about 50 volume and still doesn't know what it's for - saving money mawma!! Those bottles of developer all cost the same. 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 volume, all the same price by weight, but you get LITERALLY 5 times as much lifting power in the 50 vol bottle than the 10 vol!! The "volume" means how much the pure hydrogen peroxide is diluted in water. That's the ONLY difference!! You can take that bottle of 50 volume and add a full bottle's worth of water to it and suddenly you have two bottles of 25 vol developer for the price of one. When you buy high volume developer you are basically buying a developer CONCENTRATE that you can dilute to whatever level you want. The lower level bottles at the store just have more water in them. I always buy 40 vol and it's SUPER easy to dilute to 30, 20, or even 10 (just make a mixture that's 25%, 50%, or 75% water to the amount of developer used). The product lasts up to 4 times as long, costs up to 4 times less, and takes up up to 4 times less space than having all those different bottles in my house. Lightening is basic chemistry, don't be sucked in by marketing. Shop smarter folks!!

Brittany L: When I worked at Sally's (Midwest), I'd ask the people buying the 50vol developer what they used it for (out of curiosity) and most said they bought it for their husbands who hunt. They use it to bleach the deer skulls!

Shanel King: I'm hysterically laughing because I feel like Brad is introducing everyone to 50vol so he has more "Hairdresser reacts" content All jokes, but I absolutely can see this being featured in a boatload of "black to silver" attempts

Cosmo R: As someone who has worked with harsh chemicals, I recommend wearing safety glasses or some level of eye protecting when using 50 vol. god forbid this gets in your eyes / and your contacts ya know?? we love blonde Mondo not blind mondo <3

Dolly Decker: Brad… I think we need a video of putting different volumes of color on different sections of hair like a gradient to show us all of the lifting power of different volumes of developers.

Karl Smith: In the early 80s when I liked my hair to be white blonde, I used to use 40 vol peroxide with Born Blonde hair bleach by Clairol. I always left the product on for two hours. It worked like a charm. In the box there were two "booster" sachets containing some sort of blue powder. The directions said to use one or both depending on the degree of lightening required, but I always used four sachets,. At the time, I was working as colourist for John Frieda in the West End of London, so I knew what I was doing. Result - pure white hair and a slightly blistered scalp. My base is a 6, but I had a colleague in the salon whose base was a 3 and it worked perfectly for him, too. Clairol also did a range of Born Blonde toners that you used straight out of the bottle - no developer. The one we used was called Silent Snow and it just took away that raw, luminous quality that untoned bleached hair has. They did an amazing range of shades, but I never tried any of the others because I was obsessed with white (not platinum) hair - no yellow or violet tones.. Some I remember are: Winsome Wheat, Sweet Silver, Baby Blush, Precious Platinum, Sheer Strawberry, Happy Honey, Beautiful Beige. I should think they are long discontinued. In the salon, we also used to use high-lift tints with 60 volume peroxide. I remember one by Schwarzkopf called Artic Silver Blonde that had amazing lift. Those were the days...

Gah: What if it’s not left on for 50 minutes?

Britni Gillespie: I’d be interested to see a swatch that’s been foiled. Open air 40 is really pretty safe and comparable to a foiled in 20v

Eiroc N: I’m a cosmetologist and full Japanese. People always mistake my hair as thick and coarse. My hair is at a level 3 and it’s medium, I just have a lot of it. 20vol works perfect! I would die if someone used 50vol on me. Lol. It definitely would snap off.

Jamie Check: I could see 50 vol as a bleach wash ingredient to remove color only letting it sit for like 5-10 minutes. It could be useful in getting box black dye out.

Kassie K: I’m not a hairstylist nor do I do anything to my hair (never colored or had my hair styled at the age of 32). However, I’m obsessed with Brad’s videos and am committed to watching each one.

sara summerly: when i was in hair school one of my instructors told us a horror story about 50vol. She used to work in a salon and the owner liked to be platinum platinum and he used 50 vol and sat under the dryer. when my teacher went to check on him the bleach was turning pink because his scalp was bleeding...

M G: In the 70s and early 80s Wella used 60 volume stabalised hydrogen peroxide for their high lift Koleston 300 and Koleston 2000 hair colours. It was called Wellaprox. Also hairdressing wholesalers in the UK used to sell 80 volume peroxide but this may have been for other reasons or for diluting down to lower strengths.

Sweet n Salty: Lolll Poor Brad, torturing your nostrils and Omg, the 50 volume results gave me anxiety

Fēnja Kristall: It's so satisfying watching Brad colouring hair and seeing how it's actually professionally done.

Chrissy Papot: I was a receptionist at the nicest salon in my town when I was younger. I was a bleach re-touch for awhile. One time the stylist pulled out that 50vol Salon Care for my ROOTS. I never thought I would cry over hair, but when you loose about 30% off the root, it’s so sad. Here we are over 5 years later and I still feel like my hair is recovering

Stuie: One thing I have learned from you Brad, is to leave my hair to the professionals

Boston Reese: My gf has thick, curly jet black hair. She used 50 volume to lighten her hair so she could put pink in it. Root to ends, the 50 volume was on for about 20 minutes and she washed it out. He’s hair went from jet black to a brassy orange blonde in just 20 minutes! It wasn’t as damaged but she had to deep condition a few times. If you have thinner, fine hair that’s light brown to blonde, I don’t recommend 50 volume. It’s not necessary. I honestly trust 30 volume for most dying projects because it gives you a bit more room for error without burning your hair off.

Orchid: I love being able to watch Brad when he’s actually cutting and colouring you can see he’s so comfortable and skillful without really trying. He makes it look so easy ❤

Meghan S.: WAIT! Before you throw Miss Manny Quinn away you should make a video showing what cut and style you would do for someone who came into the salon after a bleach mishap like this ‍♀️

demon slayer: I always use 40 vol whenever I bleach my hair cause it's fast to lighten my dark hair and the time u wait is less like 20 mins. However, it's really tingly on the scalp & skin.

Andrea Miller: You should do a video for those of us that have thin and fine hair. Like how to style it, best haircuts, etc. I always hate my hair and I wish you had some tips! haha

Krystalyn Kersey: I would keep the fried hair mannequins to test out products that claim they completely restore hair.

Bre: I have so much love and respect for Brad Mondo he has taught me so much about my naturally curly hair I recently got 5 and a half inches cut off because my hair is damaged and doing deep conditioning treatments it seems to be helping I love you Brad!

lee: I can see how 50 developer would be used on hair that’s darker and courser. You should do a video where you compare developer volume to different ethnic hair types and see what the results are

amber2508: I'm embarrassed to admit that as hairdressers in the 80s, in the UK, many salons used 60 vol. There was no 50 vol just 10, 20, 30, 40 and then jump right up to 60 vol. A couple of salons I worked at wouldn't go above 40 vol but others where "let's goooo baby". Although they only ever used 60 vol for blond frosting/streaks with a frosting cap. I must admit though, back then I used to have my hair style and colour just like Billy Idol and so used to put 60 vol/bleach straight on my scalp to get the almost white colour as i have dark brown hair. How I didn't have burns to my scalp I don't know but my hair would be nearly white before I'd even finished apply it.

Johannes Halberstadt: I am so surprised, that the 50 vol. didn't bleach all of the hair to a bright white! Many parts where still yellow ir even orange. It was soooo uneven between the under layers and the outside layers. Also: if it ever touches someone's scalp, it will burn and blister the skin right off. So I really don't see why you would ever use it.

sofia Diaz: You should do a hairdresser reacts to celebrities or famous people doing their hair cause they be messing crazy too btw I love you :)

American Sweetheart: This level of developer works great for small areas. It worked really well when I wanted bright red tips over my black died hair. We used the 50 volume developer thinking if it goes bad, we can just cut it off. My hair is always super long. A few inches is nothing for me.

Vintagegoth: Hey Brad! Retired Hair Technician J here, love watching your vids! Let's go waaaaay back, to before % peroxide or enzyme were a thing. My very brief history is I dropped out of high school (grade 10 biology was the requirement as you were taught chemical action & reaction) to start a Hairdresser Apprenticeship at a high-end salon in my home town where my boss was very encouraging of all his team to be the best, knowing that like with everything else especially hair KNOWLEDGE IS POWER lol. That being said I was slipped into every color company's courses his licensed technicians went to, I was VERY lucky to have been trained (in the 80s) on Redken, and Goldwell before going to the city (Toronto) to complete Hairdresser Apprenticeship College. Where I end up as an assistant to the owner of one of the poshest Salons in Yorkville, Toronto (think Channel, Hermes, Versace, Cartier, Gucci etcetera) while completing my 6 months of school. He also had me trained now with Dickson, Schwarzkopf, Paul Mitchel, Vidal Sassoon, and the new Goldwell line. All Said & done, Schwarzkopf was one of the BEST for color technicians, as they teach you troubleshooting and thinking outside the box. We were taught 10 for 1 level lift and toner, 20 2lvs, 30 3lvs etc The 10 to 50 system is for using color NOT bleaching hair! lol there's more, but you don't need a book here lol love you Brad xo <3 J

ec-3po: My dream is to have Brad do my hair. I wish there were more hair stylists like him. I moved like 4 years ago and still haven’t found a good stylist

heatherlyn lang: Been a stylist for 35 years. Goldwrll used to make a 60vol developer. It was really made for wigs but I know people used it on highlights.

Angela Norris: As a former Sally employee, it was for sale for a while before I left around 2015. I never recommended it even to professionals lol. It's good to see a professional actually cover this product!

Meg Hinton: You’re so awesome. I love your channel. It takes so much courage to put yourself out there and you’re killing it!! I love it when people are successful being themselves and outside the norm. Inspired the rest of us to be okay with who we are. ♥️♥️♥️

Andrea M: Would love to see 50 volume used on virgin asian hair. I personally love 40 for it bc the lift is great. I just quickly apply it, about an inch or two away from the root. Thn once I get it lifted, i can do highlights for the roots and 20v on the mids and ends if it’s still too dark. As long as you’re careful and have a more realistic, it’s okay

MonkeyKittyAG: The hair salon I work at has the percentage of peroxide on the developer bottles (12% 6% etc) and now I know how that relates to volume, it's super helpful, thanks!

Two Spirit: I’ve been using 50 vol for 10 years. Rarely if ever on a full head. But for extremely dark haired clients on a time limit, It’s a god send.

Dinna Henna: 15 years ago when I was at school - I bleached the bottom half of my level 8 dark hair and threw a bag on it and it heated up a lot and I’d never known that to happen before and my hair broke off. After this video I think I now know why

Sherri Baby: I’ve used 100 volume. One of my old salon managers used that on highlights. It worked very fast, and the guest hair was soo dried out

westhawk959: Love your show, Brad. You're knowledged, entertaining, and I learn so much. Thank you.

Ashley Adams: I only ever use the 50 volume developer for bleach washing. Usually works awesome for me when I use prisma colors lavender bleach. My hair is stubborn to lift though and I definitely wouldn't tell anyone to go buy it unless they really know what they are doing.

Scott Buresh: I want to see a scientific experiment: Measured bleach= 20g Measured developers =20g Test 10,20,30,40,50 vol on the same hair color for the same amount of time exposure and display the lift side by side. Thanks!

TsukiyoTenshi: Whating the difference between both developers was pretty interesting! Oh, and this is probably unrelated, but if there is a lack of ventilation in your filming area, would an air purifier have helped with the scent perhaps? I know some can filter out some super noxious scents, but at the same time, I'm not sure how well it works towards chemicals...

Katie Miller: The tone of your hair in this video brad looks really good on you. It compliments your skin tone and makes the blue in your eyes pop.

Penguin: prediction: i’ve only use 30 volume on my hair, but I’ve seen the effects of 40 volume so I’m guessing that after the 50 volume processes the hair is going to be extremely compromised and probably very fragile

JTdeluxe: No bs my local beauty supply used to carry developer all the way up to 70 volume. Purchased the 60 volume as an experimental teenager and lost most of my hair in the process lol

Samson Gordon: I'd love to see the 50 developer on african curls or asian hair. My hair isn't even that curly and it is hard to lift and i know how hard coily hair and thicker asain is to lift so it would be interesting to see how it works.

MsMalice: When I was in cosmetology school, I was told that you dilute 50v woth distilled water to make the lower volumes of devoloper. I never tried it, but I do use 50v to brighten white shoes, grout and any stains on clothes cuz its so strong. Gets stuff clean clean lol

Yasminni: I actually had to research this not too long ago. In the country in which I currently live, developers are sold as 6%, 9% and 12% (I don't think I've seen 15%). In North America I was used to buying 20V and 30V and I was so confused. Now I know to buy 6% and 9% developer.

Taken Aback: I used trionics 50 volume on scalp and it was fine somehow. I've also used 40 volume of the developer brand you used and gave me a chemical cut

Madison Deroche: Yesterday I dyed my own hair for the first time you’d think I’d start with something a little easy but I did rainbow and I love it

Dascia Pylypenko: A cool video idea would be to see Brad trying to restore the damaged hair and teach us how to save hair if we messes it up :)

Heather Katherine Brady: Years ago, I had my hair bleached at a local resort's salon & the stylist used 40 volume. My scalp bled. Ended up scabbing over in those spots. NEVER again. I tell them in advance, no 40.

kas Georgiou: I thought 40 was the strongest you can get! I'm lucky, although my natural hair colour is almost black it lightens really easy. One session of 30 vol is enough to turn it icy platinum in 40 mins. Never need toners either.

Melissa Crockett: 2 lessons here: 1) don't ever buy 50v 2) you can only get so light, if you're trying to get your hair past a peach stage then it just needs toned, DO NOT LIGHTEN MORE.

Jenn Rex: Dye Mrs maniquin with black box dye THEN use 50 volume!! I think that would be a very interesting experiment

Lenore Lambert: I’ve used 100 volume for years. Works great. Highlighting dark hair with out heat. I would order it al various supply houses.

Lesya Dobriansky: Brad! It would have been great to demonstrate plex technology with this damage. Also it would be great to use the 40 and 50vol comparison on permanent colour on virgin level 2 hair

Peter Pearce: It would be awesome to see what your brand of color does for this hair after so much damage!

Magun Thresher: I got my hair dyed professionally for the first time and they used 50 and it FRIED my hair and burned my head. I literally had to sit with ice on my head. If anyone comes near me with 50 I'm running away!

nnmrtin: I literally watch your videos religiously, Brad. You gave me a chance to be able to express myself through hair colors without actually causing my hair to go bald :3

virgofairy88: I saw this in Sally’s in person and didn’t even know they made this stuff. Insane! I’d probably never touch it myself-my hair lightens pretty well with 30 volume considering I have level 5 hair (I go to a stylist). Sadly my waves do not like it and my hair just got frizzy so we’ve been on no bleach journey ever since.

Monique Siddle: Side note, you absolutely can mix bleach powder with water and it gives a very nice lift to semi perm fashion colour dyes. Super drying and does lighten virgin hair a little so worth noting if you have roots you don't want to lift.

Jaymie McGill: I’ve used 50vol for a balayage since air processing drops the developer by 1.. it makes it more like a 40vol with olaplex it dropped it down to a 30vol and it turned out great and the hair felt great still.

Nathalie Christine: I loved this video Brad, very educational and I learned a lot. Can you please do one like this but with 20 volume vs 30 volume :)))

IceKimi321: I think for this experiment you should've bought strands and for each volume use 5 strand with different timer - 1st strand 10 minutes, second 20 minutes and etc. Then you could compare how fast is V50 going.

Tia Shores: This is my favorite look on you! Your hair looks amazing! The cut the color *chefs kiss*

Katrina Washington: I think we need a video of how each volume of developer affects the different hair types such as 4a,4b,3c,3a, and etc.

Anna Moore: Me: WHY IS BRAD DOING THE ROOTS FIRST also me: oh yeah. she doesn’t have a real scalp.

Gabrielle Grizzle: I’ve used the 50vol on my son because he usually only lasts like 5 minutes before complaining he wants it off his head so 50 vol lifts it faster so he can have his blue Mohawk.

Victor Nunes: I feel like 50 volume developer would be great with high lift color, for touching up platinum hair roots and highlighting

Bailey: brad i have to tell you something. this is your best hairstyle yet imo. you look like a y2k heartthrob.

Rayne Lafrennie: I used to work at Sally’s and I’ll never forget having to sway customers away from 50 volume shaking my head constantly when they would buy it cause it didn’t matter wether you were licensed or not I’m sure you’re not going to use this effectively to your advantage

Hannah Aslinger: I worked at Sally Beauty for 3 years. I had a professional hair dresser come in and get 50 volume developer all the time. He said,"I've been doing this for a long time. Don't worry though. Imma water that b*tch down."

Delen Potter: You should use the 50 with color to see how that would look. Because I bounce back and forth between 30 and 40 when I color my hair, and kinda interested in how it would look now with 50

Heidi Zellman: Holy fried hair! I've been getting bleached for a very long time and NOPE! Thanks Brad, I always learn good things!

Megan Hansen: You look absolutely stunning in this video! Your blonde tone is my ideal color

Trina Hughes: Yes ! I was shocked to see 50 developer at Sally's!! But why ? Thankfully you so have to be a cosmetologist to buy it !!! We know damn well some people would try this shit and wonder why the hell their hair fell out !!! Interesting video- loved it!

Jes Hawkins: YEARS ago when I worked at a Sally's, we only carried like 2-3 bottles of it at a time. It was also a policy (not sure if it was just our district or company wide) but we could only sell it to licensed cosmetologists, not even beauty school students (this was like 12-13 years ago, so it could have changed). I think in the 3.5 years that I worked for that company I've sold maybe 2 and it was to my one regular hairdresser.

Kelly Todoruk: My hair is dark brown and when I bleach it myself I use a 40 volume developer. I always leave it in for one and a half hours. I have never had my hair fall out. It always turns out great.

Melissa Davies: I want to see 50 Volume used with hi-lift color instead of lightener (or bleach powder as Brad used in this video). I have level 5 hair and I see a big difference between 30 vol and 40 vol when used with my hi-lift formula.

Emi Matthews: So, I went to a salon that had apparently used 50 volume bleach on my hair even on the top of the already bleached hair. I think I was under heat for about 30 minutes to an hour. When my hair was being rinsed out so much hair came out that my boyfriend started to panic. She then applied toner to my hair where it turned purple with one & then blue with other. My hair (what was left of it) was blue & coarse. We then left before she could continue any further. I had a 2 hour ride home but could not process what had happened. I was distraught. I still haven’t recovered my hair & it’s been 2 years.

A Annalese: I can't wait to get my roots redone tomorrow at the salon. Actually looking forward to the bleach lol

Wiccan Moon 🌙: Lol I worked with 60 vol when I first started hairdressing! It was the highest you could get. Not a lot of people know how to work with it correctly. I don’t recommend ANYONE use it at home.

Destinee Rose: This is so interesting and it just made me think of teeth whitening solution which when we use it in the offices is like 40% hydrogen peroxide. Absolutely crazy to think about.

Angelina Calderon : Hi Brad! It’s almost summer and that means I going to be dying my hair I decided to do the e-girl style with red Do you think it will go well?

Apurva Arora: I love your expressions.. and your performance. The way that you casually mentioned"the 50 volume developer would definitely kill the kids"; had me in splits

Miya Ramirez: I worked at Sally Beauty Supply before and they've always had the 50 volume developer. Hard to to find inside all stores, my store in Tallahassee Florida had the 50 volume but in the small bottles and sometimes in the larger bottles.

Kamen Rider Kiva: You’re so good with hair, you should be a hair stylist!

Malvina Santiago: I would NEVER use 50 volume on my clients but well you know us hairdressers we try everything so I decided to use it on myself and surprisingly enough it didn't completely break my hair off. I was pretty shocked! Needless to say I doubt I will ever use it again but I was pleasantly surprised it didn't break my hair off.

That One Girl Named Michal: When I worked at Sally's, this was only sold to professionals....NO PROFESSIONALS BOUGHT IT but I had a good amount of people who weren't professionals try to buy it and I was always like "YOU DON'T WANT THAT" lmaoo

TheDisneylover23: I love you Brad! You crack me up and inform me at the same time.

Taylor Roberts: Your makeup in this is STUNNING! Your skin is radiant! I know it’s not typically your thing, buttttt tutorial????

Lost Girl: I can’t imagine how that feels on the scalp if his fingers were that hot first time I went all blonde, I went to a hair salon and they used actual bleach. Like the cleaning solution. I had no idea. My mom had no idea until after. My scalp had sores and it hurt very badly lol we were close to suing, but it was a difficult time in our lives as a family and didn’t seem like the time or place to add more stress. But hey! My hair turned out okay and I lived. But definitely be careful with what’s on your skin as well as your hair! 50v sounds like a nightmare to do at home yourself (and any “professionals” that think it’s a good thing to use on clients who might have very sensitive skin ‍♀️) ending statement? I never went fully blonde at a salon again and have been doing my hair at home since I was 13 ‍♀️ just gotta know your boundaries and when and where to stop and continue
