Foreign welcome or welcome back to my channel, I'm Asia, if it's your first time stopping by so y'all today's video, I do want to talk about something. This is something that I've been wanting to talk about for a long time, actually just never got around to making a video about it. So here we go so as y'all can already see by the title we're going to be talking about why black women wear wigs and weaves, and you know things like that specifically wigs, because I myself wear wigs okay, so a little back story about me. I'Ve been wearing wigs for over a little over 15 years now, so I've been wearing them a very very long time. I know a lot about them. My older Channel, I used to do wig reviews on them and even on this channel you're going to see you know some weight reviews on this channel as well, so I do love wearing them and I enjoy wearing them and um there's nothing wrong with it at All okay, so the main reason why I wanted to make this because a lot of people have a misperception of you know as to why black women wear them. Okay, it's plenty of reasons why we wear them and honestly, it's 20 23 now we're not the only culture, that's wearing them, so I'm just going to clarify you know clear some stuff up and you know give my opinion as to why you know I feel we Do wear them and I can only speak for myself and I know it's a lot of videos, um or a few videos right now on YouTube. I'M talking about this subject, but this is just you know my opinion as to why we wear them. So one reason why um we wear wigs is to protect our natural hair. So when we say protecting our natural hair is more so of you know us wearing a protective styles, whether that be braids or twists or whatever the case may be, and you put a cap on throw a wig on that way, you're not so tempted to mess With your natural hair, your hair is kind of just doing its own thing, while you're wearing a wig, and you know you can have like your own style while wearing your wig you're kind of switching it up. So that's one reason why another reason. Why is because we get bored with the same? Looks okay and especially if you have natural hair, when I say natural hair, I mean, like you, don't put any chemicals on your hair, you don't do any coloring, none of that. It'S just straight natural and I know for me: I have 4C natural hair um I'll, insert a picture right here, so y'all kind of see what that looks like I have 4C natural hair. So it's really thick. It'S really coarse um really hard to manage, but you know it is manageable once you learn how to do it, but it is definitely harder to manage. We have natural 4C hair and it's only so many different things that you could do with it. So I know for myself I like to just throw you know, different wigs on for different styles and different, looks and me being a hair, stylist um that that plays a lot in that because I like to you, know, try different stuff. So I'm always doing different. Looks okay kind of like a creativity, type of thing you know you can just kind of you know do different stuff without messing with your natural hair. So another reason why I feel like a lot of us black women wear wigs is because it gives us a certain look. Okay and when I say A Certain look, I don't mean like a different. I don't mean like another look as to be somebody else. I mean like a look whether it covers our face a different way or face shape a different way, um, whether it just you know the colors, just kind of bring out. You know something in our eyes and our face, not cheekbones. You know the the curl pattern of the wig kind of like the one I got on right now. It just gives it like a more you know. I have more body, you know just gives it a different. Give us a different look: okay without actually changing how we look if that makes sense. So I feel, like you know, a lot of people they think you know just because we were wigs, that we either don't have no hair or we trying to be like somebody else. You know, as far as you know, A different race um. You know things like that and I feel, like you know, that's just kind of judging it from the wrong perspective when there's other things that fall into place as to why we wear wigs - and I know a lot of people - think that um we're ashamed of our Natural hair, like we feel like people gon na judge us if we wear our real hair and some people, think that we can't grow our real hair and that's all fast. Okay, it's not true, do not believe the hype. Okay um. As far as being ashamed of our natural hair, we're not ashamed of our natural hair, like a matter of fact, okay, we love our natural hair. Sometimes we just don't feel like dealing with it. Okay, sometimes we just want to switch it up and have different looks and that's all that is to it. Okay, like I said, I can speak for everybody, but I know for me: that's like one of the one of the main reasons. Okay - and I just don't like really dealing with it too much unless I really have to do - I wear my hair out, have I wore my hair of course? Yes, you know so I don't know like people. That'S the thing like a lot of people just have it in their head, just like, oh, my God, they're ashamed of that hair. You know - and I do feel like I can't say this, though I can't say this - I do feel like people, you know approach you differently, you know when we wear our natural hair, um too, whether you know it's just your natural hair, you got ta, you know, Relax whatever, but especially for my natural girls, people approach us differently. I mean do I care about any of that stuff, not really, but it is the issue in our community where people do approach us a little differently when we wear our natural hair um, rather than when we wear our wigs. Let me know if y'all have that issue too, because I know I've ran into that myself personally so yeah and simply we work with because we just like them, you know, like you, can just light something without having to be or trying to be like somebody else Or Like A different race or whatever the case may be like I know for me personally, I can't speak for everybody, but this is just a few. You know little reasons why I think and feel that we do wear wigs and weaves um. I know for me with my natural 4C hair, like I mentioned, before, it's harder to manage um, and also I don't like touching it. I don't like dealing with it too much unless I'm, you know doing my wash days and things like that and, like I said, I've been wearing wigs for over 15 years, so I know a lot about them and you know I just enjoy wearing them. I feel like you know it, gives me the look that I'm going for whichever wig I decide to pick and things like that, and I like the fact that you can be versatile when you wear them, you can get wigs that have colors. You know, and things like that, you know different types of cuts and Styles without actually having to you know, damage your natural hair or cut your natural hair. When you don't want to just to get that look, you know your hair, our hair takes. So you know a while to grow, so you know a lot of people. Don'T want to just cut the hair just to get a certain style because you can wear the wig and you don't get a certain style. You know what I'm coming from. So all in all, all in all The Wiz is not because you want to be like somebody else, because let me tell you something a lot of people out here: that's not black, of different race and of different culture. They are wearing them as well. More so like hair extensions and things like that, so don't be fooled because we're not the only ones out here, that's wearing you know, wigs and weaves and extensions, and all that good stuff. Okay, it's very you know big. Now: okay, it's a big thing now and I just feel like you know: if you want to wear them, wear them um, for whatever reason you want to wear them. You know - and it is the most in some cases that people go through like you know, chemo treatments and things like that. So they wear you know wigs or their hair could be thinning out. You know so they wear wigs, but that's just with anybody. It don't matter if you're, black white or whatever the case may be, but for us black women, it's because, I'm speaking, you know for us. Those are just a few reasons as to why we wear them. Okay, I can only really speak for um us, because I am a black woman myself. I just wanted to kind of come on here and talk about it because, like I said, I've been wanting to talk about this topic for so long, but no matter what race you are or whatever the case may be, no matter what culture you put. On your background, if you want to wear some hair extensions, if you don't wear some wigs weave whatever do what you do, do whatever makes you happy, but let's, let's get it out our head that we wear this because we ain't got no hair. Okay - and some of us is just you know straight out - lazy like we don't feel like dealing with our hair. We want to just throw the wig on and go and be cute with it. Okay, that's it that's all, but anyway y'all! That'S it for this video. Let me know what y'all think Down Below in the comments and give me your thoughts and opinions on this topic, because I want to know what y'all think too. Okay. This is one of those topics where you know it's diverse, so I want to know what y'all think so comment down below if you haven't already go ahead and subscribe to the channel on your way out, give me a big thumbs up and I'll see you on My next video

AllThingsAsiah: WATCH PART 2.. LET ME MAKE SOME THINGS CLEAR https://youtu.be/uzKDHKi_xeI

Nikki J: It has nothing to do with me not liking my hair. I am simply lazy when it comes to doing my hair and do not want to do my hair. That's it in a nutshell. I am the same way when it comes to make up. I don't have time to primp in the mirror for 30 min, even if I did, I don't want to. But that's just me.‍♀️

T Henderson: I wear wigs because it is fun and it is apart of my personality. I like variety and being a woman we have several options and I feel all women should try out as many options as possible. You get to try different textures, lengths, and color without the commitment. I love being a woman because the many options available to enhance or improve your appearance.

Tashnah TV: That's the thing... I'm not a wig-wearer myself but why are we explaining ourselves to anyone about why we wear wigs? As you've said, we're not the only ones who do and even if we were, what's the crime? The bigger problem I have though is that people among us, with natural hair, chastise other people for relaxing their hair, claiming that they want to be someone else, yet the same natural hair people wear wigs to get the same look. No difference. People need to mind their own hair business. Problem solved.

Isolda: Great commentary & you are gorgeous! We (bw) can be ourselves in whatever hair styles we choose!

Foreverr CocoChenel: One of the funniest things I think of when it comes to us wearing wigs is that when we were young we used to pick each other’s mothers APART for wearing the same wigs that we’re not willing to live without. Oh how the tables have turned. Thank you for sharing this content!!!

MissaRosa: Why does A lot of other races wear wigs, i.e., Dolly Parton, Reva McIntyre, Jennifer Lopez, and many many more. Egyptians wore wigs. Why is it always a problem when black women wear them? Why is it a big issue? No one talks about other races wearing them. Wigs have been worn across the world for ages. Even men wear them. The majority of movies, past and present show women and men wearing wigs. It is a non-issue. Black women don't have to explain what they do to their hair. Black women, especially in the music and acting business, HAD to wear wigs. They couldn't wear their "natural hair".

TLXXX: We do wear them excessively! I’m a secret shopper and I see multiple black woman per day! 8/10 of them wear them like hats. They just throw them on their heads, no glue (or a white crunchy line across their foreheads because the install has gotten old). They don’t even try to make it look realistic. They REFUSE to show their natural hair, even for a day in between installs. Honestly, I wigs are addictive. You get a new improved hairline, LONG sleek baby hairs, and length that you’ve never had naturally in your lifetime. After wearing them for so long, you don’t feel right without it. We also receive more male attention with the wig! We can lie as much as we want, but everyone else sees right through our insecurities. I hate it for us

Nashoba Nashoba: I love wigs I remember when wigs made you look casket ready but now the options are amazing. Back in the day when I went to cosmetology school I wish we had wigs because we was doing some of everything to our hair dying, frying, curling, crimping, relaxer, spritz etc. When people make it an issue about black women wearing wigs I ask them why do British lawyers where wigs? ( Barrister wigs) Same thing when they make it an issue about wearing makeup.

VisionWriter: Thank you for sharing on this topic. You are a beautiful lady and an example of confidence and kindness…that’s what makes you shine. We need to see that our hair, whether natural or not, is not a statement of insecurity, but an enhancement to our beauty! ❤

Ms. Diva007: I had Locs for 20 years and they were cultivated Locs I had an amazing Loctician! I was all off into natural hair for 20 years and one day I just changed my mind and cut them off. It’s not that serious it’s just hair. I love wearing wigs because I love fashion and I love mixing up my look. When people see how long my hair is under the wigs they’re like oh my gosh you should wear your hair out all the time! No I shouldn’t! Lol I have better things to do with my time and constantly fixing my hair I watch it I condition it and I played it and it grows very well. But I like to be out doing other things and constantly being up in my head and wigs allow me to do that

Jman Hope: Smart people can rationalize ANYTHING! To recover our well being we must cease and desist from using negative words to describe our hair, such as nappy, knotty kinky, and coarse. Why not use words such as spiral, curly, springy, and coiled? Other people do wear wigs and weaves, however their wigs and weaves are not opposite the texture of their natural hair. Black women often wear wigs and weaves because African hair texture is opposite the texture of hair that has been characterized as femininity personified. This put black women in an unenviable position. Everything else feminine that black women personify such as thighs, hips, breast, lips, eyes and mouth are almost ignored or downplayed. The concentration for feminine portrayal then falls almost exclusively on a hair texture opposite the hair texture of black women. We must reject self rejection with all our might.

Briana: I just wear braids now . Its the easiest for me.

Honey Jazz: I totally agree with you, it's so silly to hear some black men to put down us for wearing them, many of them are wearing them also.

Betty Anglade: I just love wigs who cares about what people think, honey my wigs are my real hair , i claim it its mine So keep your hands off my hair and don't ever touch black women hair specially me.

Lynelle's Kros-Faith Walk: More caucasian women wear wigs, toppers, and extensions than people realize. I've spent hours looking at wig and hair extension videos for both black and white women. I love to show my brother because he is more shocked than even I was. Many caucasian women also want to make their hair fuller and longer, and adding extensions for streaks of color without the damage of coloring. This also is a reason for anyone to wear wigs. It does allow you to have different looks, and it's not all about wearing long wigs. I will grab a short-hair Bob wig, or some cute cut without cutting mine and wishing it is longer the next month. Also, for every race it does allow you to change up the color on a whim....yess!

D PRICE: I could never understand why women worry about what other women do with hair

Daja Clark: I don't wear wigs couse they itch my scalp, an I've had alopecia since I was a child, but I do wear head wraps, they wore wigs in the 1700s, if I'm not mistaken some employer's an schools have a problem with us wearing natural hair, make your mind up an Caucasian wear wigs and hair extensions.

Nacole James: Sometime we want a certain style right now

J BB: It’s not a protective style. I grew my hair from short to long without ever wearing a wig.

Ms. Lola👑: Braids and wigs are easier to deal with. My hair is all natural but it takes hours every day to care for so sometimes I wear braids or wigs and don't have to dye my own hair if I want a different color!‍♀️

Mine Fazz: Nothing wrong with wearing wigs and such but wearing wigs from January to December ( with exception of hair loss, disease) is an indication that you don’t like your natural hair! LETS BE HONEST and stop the lies. The protecting of your own with wigs is a played out argument. What’s most embarrassing is when it’s time to look cute & sexy wig- obsessed BM will pull out wigs. Why not wear your own on the occasion you are to present yourself as beautiful, sexy etc?

Shania: There is nothing wrong with wigs but I want to be able to take it off to work out and when I am just in the house.

Fee-Bee Romero: On my break about to listen. Great topic.

Lady: If I was to live in the jungle I’d dress like a lion to camouflage and have it easier in the wild. Exactly why I wear wigs too

Travis Jazzman: Problem with weaves, oftentimes the hair is too tightly woven in ruining the natural hair roots thus destroying the hairline causing the hairline to recede and often baldness because the weight of those heavy rope braids pulling on the hair roots causing receding of the hairline. If adult women want to do it, that's their business, but don't destroy your daughter's hairline by allowing her to have all of these weaves.

Esther Sowell: I wear wigs when i had hair it was thin so i wore extensions and wigs because of medical reasons i have alopecia so i wear units my husband doesn't have a problem with it he accept me with or without

YAHUAHBETHEONLYSAVIOR: It's mainly because our BLACK MEN keep lusting after that "white girl hair" look .....eventually they will want the REAL thing....just look around....EVERYWHERE . It's an epidemic . You don't see a lot of anybody trying to weave an afro into their hair or wear an afro wig. It's not considered desirable by men, and definitely not by MOST black men. The more "white girl hair" texture your hair is, you are told that you have "good hair" and are beautiful. Unfortunately you're even treated differently. And even though the "white girl hair women" wear just as much or more weaves and wigs, well for one, it's less noticeable because their hair texture/roots match . They also don't have this fear of sweating, getting wet, or the wig blowing off revealing a whole different texture of hair underneath ( which can send some black men into shock!!!), then us black women become the butt of jokes ( ESPECIALLY when we wear weave or braids) usually by our BLACK MEN, whose hair texture be the same as us black women ... go figure.... that was the point of perms ( which btw DESTROYED our natural beautiful hair!) instead of a press with the hot comb, so you could get wet or sweat without your roots puffing up revealing you don't really have that so-called "good hair". ...and I'm just keepin it through observation, life experiences, and talking with other black women. Also the "white girl hair women" be bragging about all the mess black men be saying about us when they with them, and then they talk mess to us why our black men don't like us or think we're ugly . It's not all black men, but it's WAY TOO MANY and it's an embarrassment to us as a people to be so vicious to one another over this nonsense .

Tanya Carter: When you a certain age the baby hair needs to go! Just saying

Carolyn Moffett: Some have alopecia, but just doesn't speak about it.

Riana Anaïs: When are we going to leave black women alone is the real question.... why can't we play with our hair like everyone else without there being 57443 think pieces written about why

Janise Frost: For different reasons some women of all races wear wigs, sickness that caused hair loss, medicines, some like to change their look, some don't want to deal with their hair. Some have alopecia or some other problem.many black woman have gorgeous hair and still prefer to wear wigs.

AllThingsAsiah: If you love wigs like me, be sure to subscribe to catch my wig reviews i post on here

Ski Davis: It’s not normal to not wear the hair that grows out of your scalp, much less hate it. It’s pathetic honestly.

Kenneth Henry: Blk women leads the pack wen it comes to wigs...Mexican women ask that very same question

Honey Braswell: I do heavy exercise 3x a week...I can't stand my hair being dirty and I don't have 2 hrs everyday to shampoo, condition & style my hair. I also work, I like a polished look & my natural hair & humidity don't get along. Amen to everything you said too---I'm all for switching up a look

SG: OMG- have you seen the texture of our hair??! From curly to kinky our hair is work. While it takes other races of women ten minutes to do their hair - BW it takes half hour to and hour and on wash day LONGER. Not to mention constant breaking, the constant breakage, the amount of products you need to keep our hair moisturized. BW hair is WORK. I have kinky curly and it tangles to the GOD, and it is ALOT of work and time. My hair is bra strap to add to the amount of work I have to put in. I wear braids on and off and it is so much easier. What shocks me is BM who don’t understand seeing they have the same texture of hair growing from their scalp. And yes, we were shamed for our natural textured hair. I love braids and will continue to wear braids. BW are beautiful period.

Winter Nightsky: Why do non-black women wear wigs, get fake lips, chins, cheeks, noses, breast, knee caps, calves, hair color, eye color, nails, tans, surgery for their stomachs and etcPlus they've been getting it before a black woman was even able to, but people still worried about what black women do with their hair Me personally I love my hair but I wear weave because I'm lazy and don't like doing hair, and at one point my hair broke off in the middle so wearing wigs helped me get passed my breakage. Plus I've developed dry/itchy scalp and my scalp flakes alot and washing my hair in braids makes it easier for me. My natural hair I rock straight (non-relaxed) because that's what I like, no self hate there. But I can't rock my hair because of these damn embarrassing flakes. However, I have to keep it . A lot of the black women I know are ashamed of their natural hair and be like oh it's nappy/they can't manage it, especially those in corporate jobs where a lot of non-black people are. I I've even got nasty comments from family when I decided to go natural and rock an afro. So self hate is rampant in the black community whether people want to believe it or not. I know a lot of black women like to use the excuse of it's because it's a protective style when they just don't want to admit they don't like their hair. It's too many in "protective styles" but they aren't doing anything to improve their natural hair. It's some friends I've never seen their real hair because they're ashamed of it. Then you got the ones that will spend a lot of hours/money on weave but won't use that same energy to learn how to properly manage their own hair/make it healthy. They have directly/indirectly taught their daughters growing up to think weave makes you look pretty and you're nothing to a man if you don't have makeup, fake eye lashes, weave and now a big butt. Meanwhile they don't teach them no to let these men disrespect/cheat/abuse them

Floyd Phillips II: Speaking from a man's perspective, we would really appreciate it if black women would stop wearing wigs. Work with the hair that grows from your scalp, that's our thinking. I understand how challenging black hair can be in certain environments. However, we'd prefer our women take more pride in their natural beauty. The dependence/reliance on fake esthetics informs us that you do not believe you are enough, and we just don't agree, we believe you are enough. For those who aren't attractive, work on being feminine, sweet, considerate, nurturing, loving and cooperative, that will attract a husband more than wigs...

Capricorn Love: Look I have Alopecia, and hormonal issues due to vitamin d deficiency and age, so I don't care what anyone say, I wear the damn thing,! Lol

HIGHLY FAVORED: There's Jewish women tribes who were wigs. Actual they are supposed to be shaved. Once a year they have to be completed shaved

kgentry8205: I was hoping to get some insight but I still don't don't understand. I think a big part of the issue is the expense and upkeep of something that u could have for free. Also, why is it always long Caucasian or Asian hair? It doesn't even look natural bcuz it doesn't match ur features of real texture. I don't see most black women buying kinky or more textured wigs, it's almost from another ethnic group.

Sisterwife1966: I don’t owe anyone any explanation for why I do what I do with my hair. And whatever style or way I choose to wear my hair is my proragative and decision and it definitely has nothing to do with how I feel about my own hair.

Shawn grant: No disrespect but I don't date females that wear wigs

TooBrazy: Look if I wanna rock my natural I'ma rock it if I wanna rock some long straight hair without burning my hair and cause heat damage I'ma rock that long straight hair If I wanna rock some wet and wavy hair Ima rock it So on and so on hey I'm the type of female that's like to switch it up ‍♀️

Dora williams: I think it’s mainly women saying and talking about straight hair it’s a fashion piece just like clothes leave people alone.,We are going to live in this world only once who cares

Oneice B: I wear wigs, because I have a seizure disorder which causes fatigue and numbness on my body. It's hard to care for my 4c hair. I cut my hair short and put on a wig

Dora williams: Celebrities and Athletes marry and date women who wears wigs and weave nobody says a word money from their head too there feet and everyone says nothing not even the men. But the average sister someone has something to say if they date and fall in love it’s between them two not society

Ebony Jackson: Cuz we want to... #noexplanationneeded

Sonja: I 150% agree with everything you said. I'm 4C natural too, no chemicals, no color. Wigs allow me to switch up the color and style as frequently as I like. I rarely wear my hair out (too lazy) and it has grown down to my shoulders as a result of wearing wigs and keeping my hair moisturized underneath. The quality and the price of wigs today due to the protective styles black women are wearing, they're amazing. (not your grandmother's wigs) I will never get my hair cut in an extreme style again not with all these amazing inexpensive wigs available, that don't even look like wigs, if you know what you're doing. Black women, we wear wigs like accessories, switch them up. I know I do. I love them!! Stay getting compliments too, people always think it's my hair.

Spring Edwards: IMO a wig is an accessory like jewelry, shoes, bags...they're fun, they can be switched up n come in many fun colors❤

Lakesha Crosby: What wig do you have on in this review ???

Tina: The wigs bump up the glam.

Calandra Stroud: I can care less what people think fill. Especially when they are not paying paying your bills. As long as you love your self.and not pleasing people.do you be happy.

Regina Gray: Because we want to!

Daja Clark: My daughter said she wears them cause she don't like her hair, an she's natural.

Lady B: I agreed with all that you said! The misconceptions are that Black Women cannot grow their natural hair.. and we can!!! Me personally, I never worn wigs or weaves until I went natural and it was then that I simply didn't know what to do with my new found hair texture after wearing chemicals for years. After cutting off all of my hair, I started wearing wigs until it grew out and then learned how to care for my natural hair on this platform, now, I wear styles like senagalese twists as a protective style and during the winter months, get blow outs.. and it has GROWN TREMENDOUSLY through the years. I love the blow out look so in order to keep it, I have decided to wear wigs again as a protective style because I do not want the heat damage.

Ivy Bee: Because they feel like it, plain and simple. No one ever questions other races of women, ONLY black women. I don't even wear wigs anymore only because it's harder for me to get all my locs under them, but when my hair was loose and when my locs were shorter best believe I'd throw on a wig or sew in braids etc. when I felt like switching it up.

Traemaxx2000: White women started wearing before us. I heard Farah Faucet was wearing them when she was on Charlie's Angels.

Teresa Evans: Because we bought them,

Julianna Okike: For versatility and a more updated appearance.

Danielle Starr: Wigs gives us that added, polished look.

Caroleen Rice: I wear wigs because I have alopecia

Danielle Starr: White women like to wear wigs. Or clip-ins to give them a more fuller look.
