☏ How To: Bleach The Knots On A Lace Closure

How to bleach the knots on a lace closure as well as how to remove the color from the knots on pre-colored hair ("Rit dip")

Why would you want to bleach the knots on your lace closure? Bleaching the knots eliminates the black dots on the base of your closure when you part it. This allows you to freely part your closure and the parting area will look like your real scalp.

When you have a closure with hair that was pre-colored (such as color 1, 1b, 2, etc) you will need to remove that color before bleaching the knots or they won't lift as easily and maybe not at all. The color removal step is only to be performed on closures that have been pre-colored. DO NOT do this step on virgin hair closures or natural color closures. It will damage the knots, sometimes irreparably.

If you forget to do this step or are unsure if the hair has been pre-colored, just bleach the knots. If the knots are still very dark you can do the "Rit dip" and the color should come right off revealing bleached knots underneath :)

Keek @missbossylive

All right, so, let's get started. We are going to bleach knots today and I'm gon na actually show you guys how I bleach knots on lace, closures. What you will need to get started. I use Clairol BW bleaching powder 30 volume cream developer. It can be any brand. This brand happens to be clear: all's pure white, red gold, color corrector - this is the box and it actually is a little tube or I'm sorry, a little squeeze bottle mixing bowl and I use a mini spatula. That'S used actually for waxing, like eyebrows and stuff. That'S what I used to mix it. You can use a an eyeshadow brush a concealer brush, one of those little wooden. Applicator sticks that looks like a popsicle stick just about anything, that's small! I also use a foam head. I don't know if you guys can see that and some T pins you gon na need the T pins. Also, if you don't have a foam head or you don't want to use one you can you don't have to. You can actually do this by laying the closure flat and then I have a lace closure. I'M going to show you the knots on this closure before I get started, so you can see what we're actually going to be doing. This is what the knots look like. Unbleached. You can see the little black dots on the scalp I'll part it in another areas. Just so that you can better see what I'm talking about, you see those little black dots. We want to make those disappear, so it looks like a real scalp. So let's go ahead and get started to get started, we're going to take the lace closure and put it on the phone head and put it pretty much anywhere. I want to make sure all the hair we're actually gon na turn it over, but I want to make sure all the hair is smooth down make sure all the hair in the back is smooth down. I actually start it down here and pull it up, because I don't want any of those stray hairs to be up here, because the bleach can seep through the lace and get on the hair and take a pin, pin it down on one side, and I take Another one make sure all that hair is down and pin it down tight on the other side as well, and once again, I just want to make sure all the hair is out of the way, and this is how it should look with no hair. Okay. Now it's time to mix, I take my scooper and I get a just a little bit more than a half a scoop of the bleach. Just pour it right into the bowl, get my developer open it up, and I'm gon na start off by just pouring a little developer in and I'll actually measure it out for you, I'm going to use a capful to start, pour it in and cap the developer. So we'll mix it up now, I'm going to add my color corrector drops, and this is very important. They add enough of the color corrector. If you don't add enough, then it will still you'll still have a brassy orange color on your knots and probably on your lace too, to let the bleach activate it's going to go from this purple, color to a light pink color back to white, when it's back To white: that's when we want to come back and it's ready to use you. Okay, we're back to white and, as you can see, it's actually expanded a bit and gotten a little bit foamy. It'S perfect and ready to go our bleach register and we have the lace side is up on our closure. I'M going to take the spatula. This is the tool that I'm using grab soon and start to just lightly wipe it on. I don't tap. Some people will tap the bleach on, I don't tap, but it's just oh. I don't like to. We got a little strand. You'Ll, sometimes get strands that come through the bottom of the closure. I have no idea why that happens, but it happens and if you do get some hair on the actual strands of the hair, I mean some bleach on the strands of the hair. Just slide it off with your finger, comes right off, don't start happy! I'M sorry not tapping wiping, be careful not to push it through. You don't want it to get pushed through the lace. You got another strand that came through. I just pull those little strands out. I mean they're gon na come out anyways when you get up to the hairline. I actually apply it with an even lighter hand, and you just make sure that you get all the edges. This works on closures that don't have this ribbon edge on the side as well. You do it the exact same way now. This is where I kind of tap it, because I don't want it to go through and that's right here on the hairline and just make sure you get it right up to the edge of the hairline. Sorry I had that turn this whole time. You know just lightly go over and make sure I got everything covered now what I'm going to do. I have a processing cap, I'm going to cover up the closure with the processes cap, and this is one of the benefits of doing it on a Styrofoam head. As we just wrap it around the whole head at this point, I am going to use a heat source. This is very important for getting the best results. On the first attempt, I use a space heater. You can use a blow dryer. You can use a hooded dryer and put the closure inside of the dryer. You can actually even wrap it in foil to help if you don't have a heat source, I'm going to use the space heater and I will be back to show you the result. Okay, here we are: the hair, actually sat in front of the space heater for about 30 minutes. So we're going to take this cap off a processing cap, throw it away swish and you can see the bleach expanded and you can actually see from the bottom that the nuts are bleached. So what I'm gon na do is take the pins off the T, pins toss aside, my styrofoam with it, and you can see from this side of the closure. Sorry, I'm trying to show you guys the best I can and then of the bleach leak through. So what I'm gon na do is wash it actually, let it sit for about five minutes or so, okay and let's get back in the sunlight, so I can show you the results of the closure. Alright, here's our finished closure. This is the underside. You see there's a little bit of blue on the ribbon edge from the readout shampoo, that's, okay! Nobody will ever see this part of the closure. This part is going to face down on your scalp. This is the part of the closure that people will see here. Is the scalp you can see now no little black dots, it looks like scalp, you can part it anywhere and that's what it's going to look like. We got rid of the brassiness as you can see, it's not orange, it's not brassy, they are blond and if you need to color your lace or the knots you can do that with fabric dye. Just like I showed in my video dyeing the scalp on a silk closure, you can also use a fabric pin and you can use makeup, you can use eyeshadow, you can use concealer, you can use powdered mineral makeup and you would just dab it into your part With a an angled liner brush or even a concealer brush, alright, I hope you enjoyed the video, and I hope that this helps you when you go to bleach your next closure.

Sis Tasha: @MissBossyLIVE  Thank you so much for sharing your techniques. I just bleached the knots on my 1st closure and it came out pretty good. Love you channel.

EveBikerBabe Matthews: Thank you...very informative! I am new to the wig world & was clueless when videos discussed dying the knots! Finally I actually know what it means & how they look! You were very detailed & great close up s on what 's the correct look for scalp to look natural! Keep up the good work!

Marie Reay: this is the BEST video on how to bleach knots. I just ordered my first lace frontal and i was looking on youtube to see if i could find a how to video and i'm glad I found your channel!!! new subscriber..this is my first time bleaching so hopefully everything goes good, I'm going to use the same products as you ^^

bmanique23: Very Detailed. Thanks and cant wait to do mine!!! :)

bmanique23: Very Detailed. Thanks and cant wait to do mine!!! :)

israeljordan17: Omg you are the best...you gave great step by step instructions. You were very clear on how to apply bleaching solution and mine turned out just as yours did. Thank you so much for the helpful tips. Shayonna

Simone Robinson: Yes this is a great video, very detailed, clear and sound was great. Thank you for sharing!

bmanique23: Very Detailed. Thanks and cant wait to do mine!!!

Erica Hardy: i watched this video when i did mine, super helpful! it was my first time and i was shaking ahah. thanks so much girl!

MissBossyLIVE: I would use a mascara wand to dye the roots and apply the color to the rest of the strands with an applicator brush. You can also apply some conditioner or grow protect/protective shield to the lace to help protect it from the color

Beautiful Faces: Great video, VERY helpful. Thank you for sharing.

B Renee: O.M.G This is the best one Ive seen out of all these knot bleaching tutorials. Especially with all the xtra information. Thanks a bunch

MissBossyLIVE: @kiakia1220 Thanks! This will depend on what items are included in your bleaching kit. Most kits already have bleach and developer so you would not need to purchase either of those items. The color corrector is optional, so you may still need to pick that up if you plan to use it.

Latrista Jackson: Amazing video! very helpful!

chyvonne55: Great Vid! What do you do if the bleach seeps thru and gets on the roots of the hair making it really white looking? Do u just take a brown color and color that back avoiding the knots or can u take a mascara and color it? Also if ur lace is too light would u recommend tinting the lace and then bleaching the knots?

Ebony Courts: Love your videos!! Very detailed!!

BEAUTYINSIDER86: I WANNA SAY THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE HELP... I JUST BLEACHED MY KNOTS FOR THE FIRST TIME ON MY FIRST LACE CLOSURE IT CAME OUT GREAT!

coco: GIRL THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS TUTORIAL WAS VERY HELPFUL .....

I I: Thanks for sharing very helpful and informative. ..and great job

MsChynaedoll: Yours came out perfect! OK! I have a full lace wig, and wants to know how many drops of the color corrector do I need to add into the mixture?

gogojojo: great video! very helpful, what size is the closure?

46FOXFIRE: Great video and thanks for sharing :)

MissBossyLIVE: @Tisrael6200 thanks. You can bleach again, but you should deep condition the hair/knots first then let them fully dry. When you bleach, try using a q-tip or makeup brush to apply the bleach only to the knots that need to be lifted. If you bleach the knots that are already lightened then you may get excessive shedding

MissBossyLIVE: @kami11213 Thanks! You can use this method with full lace wigs, but I recommend you work in sections rather than doing the whole thing at once :)

Mizshae101: Hi MissBossy! Quick question..if I use a hand blowdryer as my heating source how long should I apply the heat to the closure?

MissBossyLIVE: @ShaNiquaLTV The knots should be blonde. If the roots bleached too much, you can color them gently with a mascara brush and some demi permanent color that matches the hair. You can use Clairol shimmer lights shampoo or the GVP version from Sally's to help get rid of the brassiness

MissBossyLIVE: @TheCinziak if you want to dye the hair red, I would advise you to color the hair prior to bleaching the knots. Definitely do not do it all at the same time. It is safe to use bleach on the hair as long as it is good quality. You can bleach and then color with your red color.

Stephanie S.: The best video I've seen on YouTube for bleaching knots. This will be my first try at bleaching knots hope it works!

MissBossyLIVE: you are very welcome and I'm glad it turned out well :)

MissBossyLIVE: @mlkargbo If you knots have been sealed, the bleach may not be effective. But otherwise, I do recommend sealing your closure after each install

maatimn: Great tut, thanks!

MissBossyLIVE: @MsCaramelpoison you don't always have to use the Rit remover. If the hair has been previously dyed, you should see some of the color come off in the water, but the knots will not lighten until you bleach them. I would go through the bleaching process and only attempt the Rit remover again if the knots do not lift with the bleach

S K: Where did you get the closure? thanks for explaining the procedure.

kami11213: Can you use this method with full lace wigs? Great video

MissBossyLIVE: @SimplyJoy18 You can bleach the knots on kinky straight closures. I have done so several times with no issues. You can also bleach the knots on any other type of yaki hair. The closure used in this video is light yaki

LaJoyceDenise: just curious to know where did you purchase this closure?

lwhall7: Great video!! I have a HUGE problem..I used the Beyond the Zone bleaching kit from Sally's and now my lace is orange. I do not know what to do, it looks very unnatural. Do you have any tips/advice on how to correct this? I wish I saw this video before my bleaching attempt. *sigh*

NikkiSaMoneforever: Very helpful!!! Tx for posting the video

Theresa Gray: What color lace did you have or do you think dyes the best?

MissBossyLIVE: @Eliya05 Hi, I puchase my products from Sally Beauty and from a beauty wholesale warehouse. You can use bleach to add highlights you your closure, but I do recommend you use the foil method for the best results :)

MissBossyLIVE: @elfdansel you can try Clairol Shimmer Lights shampoo or conditioner (blonde). Let that sit on the hair for 10 minutes and repeat as necessary.

Mel M: great video! i am assuming that you can use this method on a FLW right?

MissBossyLIVE: @MsCaramelpoison yes, you would apply the same method, but it may be easier for you to do it in small sections rather than trying to dip the whole wig at once

Bklyn Suga: Great job ang the best I've seen yet to date Thanks

josselin239: Can you do this on a silk closure as well?

sonyea01: what knot sealer do you use and can this bleeching be done on all types of hair on lace wigs also, including synthetic?

MissBossyLIVE: @beautigra I believe it’s a 3.5 x 4 inch closure. I can’t quite remember where I ordered it from as it’s been almost 2 years since I bought it

MissBossyLIVE: @jo2syd I got it from my private vendor. I do custom orders on closures if you need one. If yours doesn't have a strip you can apply it any way you want. Or you can look to see which side has the least amount of hair and put that side in the front. For next time, you can tell em to put a pu strip or ribbon edge on the two sides and the back only (stress the word ONLY)

MissBossyLIVE: @bunny198030 I would dye the hair then bleach the knots. But be careful not to get dye on the lace/knots because it will still be very difficult to remove

MissBossyLIVE: @sonyea01 You can get the color remover at almost all drug stores and at Walmart/Target/Kmart/etc… The closure you purchased from me does not need the color remover, and it will in fact damage the knots beyond repair if used.

Doxwifey1999: Bossy does it again! You rock!

Retta: Are you going to make a tutorial on how to use the rit dye remover?

J4TheLastTime11: what density is your lace?

viewssight: Which store did you buy all your products from? I want highlights on my closure would that be okay with this method>?

MissBossyLIVE: @sonyea01 I use Patricia Nimrock Matte acrylic sealer. You can use this method for all kinds of hair on lace wigs & closures, but not on synthetic hair

meshel67: thank you so much for showing how that's done....i've always wanted to know...now i might consider buying a lace front.

YourGirlLexiBee: Thanksss(: where'd you get that closure from??

Britney Janae: You did a great job

MissBossyLIVE: @SimplyJoy18 yes, you can also use this method for lace wigs :)

taligo: Great Video!.. Do you have any suggestions on how to do the rit dip on a full lace wig?.. It is human hair- not virgin. Color 2/33.When I simply washed it the first time, the water ran brown.I tried to bleach knots in a small inconspicuous area, left on for 50 minutes and nothing.I searched and found the rit dip suggestions- I just don't see how I am going to get the entire wig rit dipped without doing some sections more or less than others, and not touching any of the hair on the other side?

MissBossyLIVE: @lwhall7 It sounds like you may not have left the bleach on long enough. What you can do is shampoo the base of the closure with Clairol Shimmer Lights shampoo (blondes) and let the shampoo sit for a few minutes. Repeat 2 or 3 times. If the closure is still brassy, you may have to bleach again for just a few minutes to get rid of the brassiness

Retta: @MissBossyLIVE Oh yeah I missed that part should've watched it all the way through before bleaching my knots which didn't bleach now i have to use rit dye remover hopefully it all works out!

Shannon: Where do you purchase your closures?

drama8544: you r so informative! luv ur vids!!!

MissBossyLIVE: @blkfuturesucess89 Yes it will, you will just have to work a little faster to ensure the knots lift evenly

MissBossyLIVE: I purchase the Red Out from a professional beauty supply and the color corrector from Sally Beauty, but you can find both online

Tanya Riley: what kind of bleach you use to bleach your lace frontal

blk grl: Do you have to add fabric after you bleach the knots or can you wear it as is?

Jessica Fernanders: where did you purchase the lace closure from?

MissBossyLIVE: @mlkargbo thanks! I'm glad I was able to help :)

coco chanel: best video I have seen. Awesome!!!!

Lonna Jones: I did exactly what you did and my closure knots are red should I wait to rinse it out ?

pajamagirl123: ok im glad i remembered to ask my CV to leave my closure UNCOLORED haha i had a feeling I'd screw myself over when i went to bleach it. thanks so much!!

MissBossyLIVE: Yes, you can bleach it again, but watch it carefully and don't leave the bleach on too long

MissBossyLIVE: @toofunny88 You can try the Rit dye remover, but be very very careful with it because it can be damaging to the knots on the hair if they have not previously been colored. Otherwise, you can try using powder makeup a shade lighter than the color you would wear on your face

MissBossyLIVE: @MsCaramelpoison I would not advise using hair color remover. The color that is usually used on color 1 wigs and closures is clothing dye. For this reason you will need a stronger remover. You can use the Rit color remover in small sections. You'll know if it is working because the water will start to change color as you are dipping

MissBossyLIVE: @pajamagirl123 You are very welcome. I hope your closure turns out great!

rececup87: After I bleach the knots on my closure do I have to put a stocking cap under it to cover the braids underneath???

sonyea01: where do you buy the color remover? Do the closures you sell need the color removed? So far, I only have the bleeching items... I just received my order from you yesterday and am anxious to get started with bleeching the knots..i'm following your video step by step at this very moment.

msgreene1973: Where do you buy your closures?

Brittney Young: Awesome video!

MissBossyLIVE: @sonyea01 honestly, any bleach, any creme developer (30 or 40 volume) will work fine. It's all the same just with a different brand name. You should be fine :)

Jackie Oguntayo: Is your closure transparent or colored?

beautigra: what size closure is that? where did you order it? please inbox me

MissBossyLIVE: if they lifted some, you can try bleaching again. If they didn't lift at all, you can try the rit dip

Hazel Love: Where did you get the lace closure?

MissBossyLIVE: @stdspm14 yes, I actually posted an example of how I attach the fabric on another video :)

MissBossyLIVE: :) thanks for watching

thatguhl: where did you get this closure

IamShadaeee: Very detail video!

msaj926: Does it matter what kind of shampoo you use right after you rinse the bleach out?

MissBossyLIVE: @davise26 yes, but you have to first decide if you feel it is safe to have the sealer on your scalp

Jasmine H: after you used the red out do you need to use those shampoos and conditioners or can you just use any shampoo and conditioner? Like motions?

AKIYIAKELLY: great video.. Thx!

MissBossyLIVE: @rececup87 you can, or you can just place the part on your closure in the same place as the parting in your natural hair.

miamor2709: Amazing

MissBossyLIVE: @BBCreationsMUA It's ok, lol. I hope everything works out well for you. Let me know how it turns out :)

Queen T: I have already process, bleach & dyed my lace closure can I bleach my knots to get my scalp effect again without it affecting my dyed hair ?

Breanna Herron: How long should I leave it on if I have 40 developer?

Ebony Kenney: Do u think the rit would remove the tint from the lace itself? Or is that the point of it? Mines is brown and it does not look natural
