Well, hey guys in today's video i'm going to be sharing with you, five of the most common hair care myths that i hear repeated over and over again, if you're new here welcome, my name is andrea, i'm a board-certified dermatologist and i upload skin care or hair Care related videos every day at noon, eastern standard time. If that sounds of interest to you, make sure you subscribe and hit the thumbs up. It really helps my videos out a lot. I'M willing to bet that at some point in your life, someone has told you that shampooing, your hair every day is bad for your hair, absolutely false. In fact. The more often you can shampoo the scalp, the better for the health of your hair and for the health of your scalp. Now, of course, not all hair types tolerate daily shampooing, some hair types are more prone to dryness, brittleness and breakage, with frequent shampooing so adjust the frequency to what your hair type will tolerate. Personally, i shampoo my scalp every single day emphasis on scalp. The act of shampooing is really meant to cleanse the scalp of that oily buildup. That can generate a lot of inflammation and is a hospitable environment for that little yeast malassezia to kind of take over and that little yeast which, if you're not familiar, is part of everybody's skin flora that little yeast, if it gets too comfortable, can lead to a Lot of inflammation, that's what causes dandruff and can contribute to hair loss so, depending on your hair type shampoo daily. If you can it's important that i have a shampoo that meets the needs of my hair and that changes depending on the weather, or you know now that my hair is longer. I have some additional hair care interests like shine as opposed to when it was shorter. I wanted more volume now. That is why i adore function of beauty. Today'S video is in partnership with function of beauty. You guys know i've been using their shampoo and conditioner for well over a year now it's made a huge difference in my hair health and as well as the health of my scalp, and i like it, because you can fully customize it to meet the needs of Your individual hair type - it's really easy - all you have to do - is go in and take a short quiz outlining your hair type and your specific hair goals. And then you can customize your shampoo and conditioner to be a certain color. I always choose die free and then you can choose your scent and the strength of your scent. Personally, i prefer free of fragrance, so i don't get any scent, which is another thing. I really love it's very difficult to find fragrance free, hair care products that meet my specific hair care needs. Not only do i love their shampoo and conditioner, but the add-ons the extras are game changers in my hair care routine, for example, i just got a new tub of their hair mask this deep conditioning mask is amazing. If you have long hair, i highly recommend it and their hair serum talk about shine. It really leaves the hair glossy and extra manageable love it. I know a lot of you have been tempted to try function of beauty and i'm so excited because they are now offering something totally new and that is a starter set. You can get um a smaller size of their shampoo and conditioner customized to your hair care needs for under thirty dollars. Yes, that's right under thirty dollars. This little bottle will get. You 40 washes that's less than a dollar per wash so click the link. In my description box - and you can get your starter set today - just go ahead and fill out that quiz and get started for less than 30 plus free shipping, and if i didn't already mention this is really one of the things i look forward to the most. When i get my order is the stickers you can put these on the bottles really liven them up, they're so cute. I love that little extra extra touch. If you want to tweak your formula before getting the bigger bottles, you can do that you can kind of get an idea of how it's going to work for your hair and then tweak the formula and thereafter function of beauty will automatically send you full size. Bottles of your formula every month to three months, depending on the frequency that you choose so click the link in my description box to get started with function of beauty starter set today for less than 30 dollars, plus free shipping. Thank you function of beauty for sponsoring. Today'S video speaking of shampoo, i hear this all the time i get requests. Please recommend shampoos for hair loss. There is no such thing as a shampoo that will grow your hair. It'S simply not true. Um. The act of shampooing is really important for healthy hair growth. So if you are dealing with hair, shedding or hair loss, make sure you are cleansing, your scalp as frequently as your hair type will tolerate because, as i said that oily buildup can cause a lot of inflammation that ultimately leads to, you know, contributes to ongoing, shedding And hair loss, however, there's no shampoo ingredient or category that directly will grow your hair. Some shampoos have ingredients like ketoconazole or zinc pyrithione, which calm down inflammation a little bit more, but they don't actually grow the hair they're not going to affect your hair cycle shampoos and conditioners. They don't grow hair. So there's no specific, shampoo and that's important, because there are shampoos out there on the market, that will that claim to be for hair loss and that's not true and shampoos that are marketed for people with thinning hair a lot of times. They have peptides proteins that glom onto the hair shaft and make it appear thicker, but they don't actually impact the rate of hair growth or the hair cycle. People dealing with hair loss. I mean it is a vulnerable population and the hair care market really preys on. On you guys, so, if you're dealing with hair loss do not think that a shampoo or conditioner is going to do the trick just know that consistent cleansing of the scalp is helpful for the health of your scalp and healthy hair growth. But you don't need a specific, shampoo or conditioner to do that. Speaking of conditioner. Another set of myths that i hear is related to dry hair, but one thing people don't actually realize is that moisture is actually not helpful for your hair and it makes it more brittle more prone to breakage and frizzier so attempting to increase the water content of Your hair shafts actually is detrimental to your hair health journey. It will lead to frizziness, make your hair unmanageable and make it more prone to breakage. For example, i live in basically a fishbowl of humidity and my hair, when the humidity is even higher than it is at baseline. My hair can be a lot more vulnerable to breakage because of all the moisture content makes it frizzy and unmanageable. This is why i often wear my hair up in that loose bun on the top of my head to keep my strands. You know away from all that moisture content of the atmosphere here so yeah. It'S a myth that moisture is good for the hair. What you want, if you have dry brittle hair, are hair care products that are lubricating and help coat the hair and keep it smooth and keep it from absorbing too much moisture to make it brittle things like a deep conditioning mask conditioners. These are really important. The ends of the hair, especially if you have long hair the ends of the hair, are really a lot more vulnerable to becoming brittle and dry. Don'T think that just moisture is what you need. It'S really conditioning so always put your conditioner, make sure you direct direct. Your shampoo to your scalp and your conditioner to the ends, that is, that is key for your hair care. Likewise, because moisture leaves the hair a lot more brittle, your hair is more prone to breakage and damage when it's wet to be very gentle with your hair. When, after shampooing, when it's wet, don't aggressively brush the hair um because the hair, it's basically swollen and a lot more and a lot weaker at that point, so you want to be really gentle with your strands when they are wet gently wring out excess water use. A i recommend a absorbent hair towel, not just your regular bath towel i'll link mine down below the aqui hair, towel highly recommend it very absorbent and will help very efficiently remove excess water from the hair strands. That'S really helpful, especially if you have curly hair. This can really lead to a lot of problems if you are over hydrating, your hair and for people with textured hair. This is known as hybrid fatigue. It really can influence the health of your hair. Now, coconut oil is an ingredient that you will find in many hair masks and deep conditioning products that can help reduce that hygro fatigue. You can certainly use coconut oil on your own hair. I recommend doing that, for example before getting into the shower. Although beware, it does kind of make a mess in your shower, but if you just put a little bit of coconut oil on the ends of your hair before stepping into the shower, it can really help it um in reducing that hydro fatigue from the moisture and The in the shower speaking of the ends, this is the next myth that i hear this is false. I haven't cut my hair in four years and it's down to it's down to my rear end. Now you guys it's gotten really long. I haven't cut my hair in like four years i haven't even had a trim, i'm not saying that's right for everybody, but the act of trimming, your hair and trimming the ends does not affect the rate of hair growth. Hair growth is in the follicle is from the follicle, not from the ends. If you check out my videos on hair loss and hair shedding you'll realize that hair loss is a complex thing. There are a lot of different types of hair loss, but it starts. You know it has to do with the health of the follicle, which is down in your scalp, not the ends. So if you are dealing with hair loss or thinning hair, hair shedding see your health care provider, get a diagnosis and that way you can begin to address it trimming your hair is not going to be the answer now. If you have a lot of split ends, getting a trim will remove those split ends and make your hair look a lot healthier, make it less vulnerable to breakage. But breakage is not the same as hair loss. It'S just a pain and it ultimately makes your hair look less healthy when you have a lot of breakage and damage to the ends. So, yes, getting a trim definitely improves. The look of your hair makes it look a lot healthier, but trimming your hair does not prevent split ends. You can get a hair, you can get your hair trimmed and then a split end form. You know one or two seconds later. It doesn't actually prevent them from forming in order to minimize the formation of split ends, make sure you're using deep conditioning products, not over styling your hair, with hot tools that leave the hair vulnerable check out. My video on tips for hair breakage, but that kind of feeds into the split ends thing and the final myth that your hair gets used to the shampoo and conditioner that you use. That is not true. Either hair care products, shampoos and conditioners, they have ingredients in them that make them unique the product overall unique in terms of yielding a specific outcome, whether that be shine. Those particular products may have a lot more silicones in them, which lubricate the hair strands and make it look shiny glossy. They may also have different oils to help coat the hair and make it shinier and more manageable. You have volumizing shampoos, you have thickening shampoos and you also have clarifying shampoos that help to remove buildup of products. But your hair itself does not get used to any of those different types of shampoos, and if you have a shampoo that you like keep using it shampoos, your hair doesn't get used to it. Now you may find that your hair needs change and that particular shampoo's function is no longer relevant again. This is why i like function of beauty so much because you can go in and you can customize your hair care products to meet those needs. Like i said at the beginning of the video i used to have when i started my channel short hair, i wanted things that were more volumizing now that i have long hair. I want things that help with shine, so your hair care needs change. They'Ll change with your environment. Like i said, i live in a very humid climate, but when i lived in colorado, my hair was a lot more prone to static, so i wanted things that would help in terms of conditioning to minimize that staticy charge on the hair. You don't necessarily need to swap out your products, because your hair does not get used to the product, but your hair may change in what it needs, in which case that's when you want to change out your product. So those are the five hair care myths that i hear repeated over and over again uh share in the comments below what have you heard that you're not sure about? Is it true? Is it false because i know you guys enjoy these myth, busting videos, so maybe i'll do a part. Two don't forget to check out function of beauty and use the link in my description box to take advantage of that new offer where you can get their starter set uh to try it out. I think it's a great value less than a dollar per shampoo um and you can try it out and, like i said i i adore it. It'S my favorite and i've been using it for a long time now, anyways guys. I hope you enjoyed this video. If so, give it a thumbs up share with your friends and as always, don't forget, sunscreen and subscribe i'll talk to you guys tomorrow, bye, you

The Beauty Minimalist: I regret all the greasy hair days I lived through because of the “washing your hair once a week” myth

angelina pirkle: I do put Carol's Daughter conditioner on my scalp and not just the ends of my hair. I don't know if it's different than other conditioners, but it really feels great on my scalp.

Teresa Sorrels: One of the myths, shampoos to use for hair loss, is a desperate attempt, for those of us with thinning hair, to find help for this situation. I know the various shampoo companies that claim this, know it too. It’s very disheartening to hear there’s nothing, other than prescriptions and monoxidil, to help.

Clara Crocodile: The myth i hear a lot is = sulfates are bad for the hair. My hair is really oily and shampoos with sulfates are a savior.

Sadie D: Function of beauty is so overly sponsored online and, for me, the products were not good. I was so so disappointed by their shampoo. The conditioner was ok, but I still have half a bottle of the shampoo as I just couldn’t use it anymore. I have gone back to my kerastase and pureology. (Also when I tried to leave a review, it never appeared online. Which explains the good trust pilot reviews).

meiyumi: i’ve tried “training” my hair so many times for years and it never worked out. now that i wash my hair daily it’s never been better! :)

Mary Lawman: Thanks for the hair care tips and busting some of the myths. As someone with fine, thin hair that's past my shoulders, I'm always interested in ways to help keep it healthy. Appreciate your hard work. Happy Wednesday, Dr Dray! I hope you have a peaceful evening.

luis 36: Thank you! What youtubers said that I should wash my hair once a week did not work for me personally. My hair felt extremely greasy and fell out too much when not washed. So I continued as I normally did, using daily shampoo and my hair regained its strength.

Aly H: Thank you! I have always felt bad about washing my hair every day or every other day thinking that it’s “bad” for my hair but my hair is thin and straight and gets oily quickly. Yay! Now I can feel good about washing my hair every day. And it makes sense our hair is dead so why would getting trims at the bottom affect the growth. If you have split ends then yes cut them off but if not, getting trims all the time won’t do anything. Preach dr dray! ❤️

Teri White: Thank you so much for this vid. I have felt vaguely guilty for years because I wash my hair daily and there’s so much info out there saying it’s bad to do this. I have been using Function of Beauty from Target for the last couple months and it.

Alexa Mojo: I am so happy about your FOB promo. I love them so much, I realized that custom made stuff is a lot more expensive, but in the end I know it works. I spend so much money on shampoos and skin care and never gott the results I wishes for... Since I use custom made stuff it just works and in the end I don't need to work my way through the whole store to find something that works a bit

Anna Te: I'd love a video on hair care ingredients - which to look for for different hair concerns and which to steer clear of. It's so so difficult to find accurate information on hair care and even more difficult to then translate that into what to buy and what to avoid!

Elzbieta: Okay, as someone who is crazy about hair care and has very long and healthy hair for years, I was skeptical about the video, but actually I was surprised! Everything said in the video is true and I'm glad finally someone with a bigger platform is trying to stop the spread of these myths. Like dr Dray said, wash your hair everyday if your scalp needs it. Trim the ends only if your hair needs it. Observe your hair and how it looks after certain products. Silicones are not that bad and actually they're great for protecting the end of your hair or whenever you feel like your hair is more prone to breakage. One more thing I'd add is that yes, your hair does not get used to products, but it may need change in the ingredients. For instance, your hair is supposed to have a balance between proteins, humectants and emollients. So if you use only one conditioner with mostly emollients, your hair will lose its volume, it will be heavy and it will turn into thick strands of hair. On the other hand, if you use too many humectants, your hair will be frizzy, puffy etc. That's why I recommend having a couple of conditioners to keep PEH balance. BTW. I do not know if I recommend the function of beauty. Just read about them on reddit and the ingredients they put before buying.

A Silas: I appreciate the information. I recall a lot of these myths were instilled in beauty school. A lot of stylists are taught misinformation because hair care products are great sources of revenue for salons/stylists.

K shelley: I have been suffering from sudden hair fall for two weeks now. This video is much required. Thanks

head empty: i'm so glad you mentioned the first one bc if *one* more person tells me it's bad for my hair that i wash it everyday or that "all i have to do is train it" i'm going to explode. i've tried "training it" numerous times for years (including during quarantine) & it never, ever adjusts. some people just have an oily scalp y'all it's hereditary for me

Jennifer Saylors: Another great video Dr. Dray! Thank you for the info. I am always trying to learn more about appropriate care for my daughter's thick, course, curly hair. I see many stylists saying that dry, curly hair needs more moisture in the form of water (not oil/silicone based products). Is this wrong? Does your statement about moisture apply to this type of hair too? I know dif types can have vastly dif needs. Thank you

Nana-chan L: Thank you for this video. I'm suffering from hair loss because i'm a breastfeeding mom and people around me had mentioned 4 out of 5 myths you mentioned here. And i'm doing these things for a week now.

Emily: I hate when people ask me how I grew my hair out, and when I say “just don’t cut it” they get all angry talking about how that doesn’t work and is damaging

rolldecode: Loved the video! What about the myth that you have to brush your hair super often and just for a very long time? I have some friends who count their strokes??!! In contrast I brush my hair now and again when I have knots, usually every day (or every other day) but not super thoroughly, just until it doesn't catch the brush and it feels smooth. Please tell me I'm right hehehehe

Marianne: Most common thing I hear : You can train your hair to need washing less often.

Ana Lisa Zagorski: I ❤ this segment. I just bought Func of beauty from target and got the small booster shots for the scalp. They do come with lots of booster shots, depends on what you need. I have a question, can mix it with 2 different booster shots together? Like volume & scalp? Make sense?

Some Random Lady: I'm grateful for this video. I'm going to start washing my scalp daily, but keep to washing the rest of my hair with shampoo every 2-3 days. I stopped washing my hair daily a few years back thinking it would make it healthy, but my scalp actually starts to hurt after a day or two if I don't wash it. It literally aches!

Nicole on EQ: My hair is thick and oily and I’ve been trying to shampoo only twice a week because I definitely thought shampooing everyday was bad. Valuable info right from the get go, thank you

Mika PH: Thank you for addressing these myths, dr Dray. Do you think the scientific knowledge about hair care is biased on white people's (straight) hair? As a curly white person, I think a lot of 'new' information is reaching me from the black hair community. (new for me, it was obviously passed on in black societies for generations). And I feel like this information is helping me a lot with my curly hair. And very often it goes against the 'common knowledge' that I was brought up with. And it also sometimes seems to go against the scientific knowledge that you share. For instance the idea that 'natural' ingredients in products would be better, first came to me from a curly hair platform. Also that silicones would be bad, and I notice that if I do not use silicones, my hair really seems to become a lot healthier. Or for instance shampooing really is super drying on my curly hair. And washing without sulfates really seems to be gentler on my hair. Also FoB is not being embraced in the curly hair community. And it really doesn't do it for me either. It leaves my hair dry, prone to knots and breakage. Is our knowledge of hair biased because throughout history most doctors have been white, and there is not a lot of scientific research specifically done on black people's hair, or curly hair in general? Or am I walking in a marketing trap based on old wives tales? It would be great if you could address this in a video. Or do you know of a good source for scientific knowledge on curly hair?

Jenn B.: WOW! Your channel has really grown. Congratulations!

Jean Jennings: Hi Dr. Dray....off topic, but thanks for this video, as always, your information is excellent! Can you please talk to us about LUME deodorant??? It's supposed to be used for the entire body areas that could produce odor. They claim you can use it on your anal area, your genital area, as well as arm pits and feet. I would like you to give your educated opinion about this. I would be hesitant to apply anything in the "below the belt" area, without hearing your valued opinion on this. THANK YOU!

Monalisa Singh: Thanks for this video Dr. Dray! I would really like to know if brushing our hair damages it and how frequently can we do it without causing harm?

Gena Marie: Great tips, Dr. Dray! Love it

Hang Nguyen: I wash my hair EVeryday and my mom yell “your hair will fall off”! Now I can assure her that Dr Dray it’s OK.

Adriana Valenzuela: The problem with this company is the price, I don’t want to pay over $50 for on 16 oz shampoo.

froggy 🐸: Hi Dr. Dray, I have very coily hair that is prone to dryness/breakage, are you saying these hair type doesn't really require a lot of moisture, I have heard that coily/curly hair needs all the moisture it can get, I also suffer from seborrheic dermatitis and I have to use Nizoral shampoo at least once a week and this dries out my hair very badly, i always use conditioner afterwards, I use highly botanical based water soluble gels for styling, they contain lots of humectants and i layer anti-humectant gels on top, do you think this is a right approach to hair care, how do we balance our peculiar hair care needs with all the science/facts about hair in general, any advice will be gladly appreciated. Thank you

Stephanie Butler: I tried for YEARS to go days between washes because I bought in to the myth that daily washing would harm my hair. Now that I've been washing daily my hair has never looked better!!! I LOVE my Function of Beauty!!! I'll never go back

A Lana: My daughter adores the FOB stickers, I’ve ordered even the body wash , we love it, my husband had his starter kit too lol, we even have a kit for our toddler as it’s paraben and sulphate free,

Marie Jesne: How I "fixed" my thin hair patches: I put eyeshadow on my scalp until it grew back

gingerchipper: I always laugh when I hear “split ends won’t grow”. I do have my hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks though. The trim does get rid of the split ends and makes it look healthy and “bouncy”.

Jessy: Great video thank you so much for always being so helpful and kind ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Nicole: Suggestion for part 2: pulling out a Gray/white hair will cause you to produce more

It's Me: Good Morning Dr Dray, Could you please make a video about PFA’s in personal care products. I’m especially freaked out because they were found in 85% of waterproof mascaras, Over 50% of long wear/ waterproof foundations, waterproof eyeliners, long wear lip products etc. Worst of all, the concerning ingredients are often not listed on the ingredient list. I would love to hear your thoughts. thanks

manouna: i personnally used to have super oily (to the point of stickyness... ew) hair but now after a 2 year~ journey of making my hair not dependant on shampoo my hair is literally never ever oily and i wash it *maximum* once a week only and condition everyday, super smooth and no excess oil. works super good for me personally.

L Younginer: Dr. Dray, next time you are at Trader Joe's pick up a bottle of their hair serum. I read lots of positive produt comments & decided to try it. It's hands down the best hair serum I've ever had. I'd like to hear a review & what you think. It keeps my hair so soft & non-frizzy.....thanks for this video.

Katilyn Boyer: I wish you would have addressed the fact that when you have split ends (which is inevitable) those splits can travel up the hair shaft, continuously splitting, and then breaking 3, 4 or 5 inches up from the bottom of your hair. This breakage then makes it APPEAR like your hair isn't growing which is why a lot of people find their hair grows "faster" when it's trimmed regularly. The reality is by getting regular trims you're preventing that split end from doing more damage.

Mika Yuu: I've been on MCG method for more than a year and this week I was planning to quit it because I haven't seen any results and my scalp itches a lot, this video was the sign I was expecting The first thing I will do tomorrow morning is washing my hair

it's complicated: Salicylic acid based shampoo have done wonders for my irritated itchy scalp. Its a regular shampoo with sodium laureth sulfate it also has panthenol and niacinamide nothing fancy .My scalp isn't red and irritated and my hair is healthy and shinny.I also don't use shampoos ,conditioners and masks with silicones. From time to time l use Ogx silicone serum with argan oil on the ends of my hair. I wash my hair almost every day and I have no problems.

judy males: So true about the monthly trimming. When I stopped that my hair got long. I have since cut it off, but it does work!

Giuli M: Could you maybe make a video going into further detail on moisturizing hair and hydral fatigue, please? Also maybe a curly hair care myths like this one. Thank you!

Ana Nicholson: I keep of thinking how some Victorian women washed their hair only once a month with an egg wash, although I am aware that they kept their hair clean in other ways I am very thankful for my shower and my hair products

Kerri Namolik: I’d love to learn more about silicones in hair products. I’ve heard “they seal the hair and prevent moisture from getting into the hair”.

acultbee: Dr Dray, can you please share the options that you choose for your FOB shampoos and conditioners, conditioning treatment and serums. I really want to place an order but the options confuse me a little. Some of the goals seem as if they are really similar. I read the description when I choose each and realize that they convey what oils and such will be added. Would you ever be willing to do a video diving further into these ingredients, the way that you do with skincare. Thanks so much for always making lovely content. You are my favorite YouTuber!!

Google User: Dr Dray I need to thank you. So I bought the brooks 13 ghost and adrenaline wow are they amazing compared to my new balance. I deal with heel pain and foot cramps and they have helped a lot. Another thing is I finally put on the aqua gold sunscreen and wowwwww sooo much better than the regular white bottle one!!!!! Thank you so much. By the way which one offers more coverage??? The gold or white bottle?

May Lee: I’m a once or twice a week hair wash person. My scalp doesn’t tolerate waiting any longer than that. It works for me

Azra H: Ive had my labs checked and my thyroid is ok but lately last 2 weeks Ive been shedding sooo much like clumps of hair all over, Ive noticed a windening part in different areas all over. Now Ive had an extremely stressful situation about 3-4 months ago, and not sure if its due to stress? Ive read about telogen effluvium and it sounds like thats what it is but Id appreciate your opinion!

Emeraude Hime: I do conditioning washing on my hair for the last year and it has greatly eliminated my split ends. I also stay away from products with sulfate and silicones. When I get itchy scalp, I mix equal parts of ACV+ water , spray on my scalp and let it sit for 15-30 min before stepping into the shower. I live in a tropical country.

Joelle Aittama: So glad to hear this. Scalp health is hair health. Not washing grime and grease off of it seems counterintuitive for good hair. Great content as always!

Jenny H.: I wish that you was my dermatologist. I feel like my dermatologist doesn’t care a lot about her patients like you do. The first time that I saw her, which was to go on Accutane, she wanted me to buy a $100 facial lotion that she created and she knew that I was on Medicaid so she should have known that I wouldn’t be able to afford something that high in price. She is the only dermatologist in my city that takes my insurance so I have no choice in trying to find a different dermatologist.

Urmila Patil: The moment I click on the video and see Dr Dray, I run to apply/ reapply my sunscreen. That is the influence she has on me

Kim Garrison: Are clarifying shampoos beneficial? And do you still recommend the product for hair growth?

Jennifer Ann Fox: I'm on month 2 of using IRestore. I got one a couple of months ago using your link. So far I have noticed a good bit of reduction in hair loss. Not seeing regrowth yet but hopeful.

Karen Farmer: I got my hair cut (butchered) about 6 weeks ago - after not visiting my stylist for nearly a year because of covid/quarantining - even though I brought a picture of what I wanted and it was the exact same picture/cut as my last two visits to the same stylists. I thought I was getting a loosely angled bob and I got a messed up shag. I actually went back to get it 'fixed' and now I'm MUCH shorter than I ever wanted to go so I'm desperate to grow it back out. I know it's just hair and only time will help (though I'm eating very healthy, as I've been dieting anyway and have lost 60lbs over the last yearish, to try to provide my body with nutrients to help it out, lol.) I hadn't used styling tools and usually let it air dry when it was to my shoulders and below. Now I have to do something with it as the kinky grays are hard to tame, especially as they are shorter now. My hair has been pretty healthy and I believe it's because of my not abusing it with heating tools and only using a hair pick on it when wet since the 90s, and only finger blowing it dry occasionally when in a hurry. (Though I recently discovered the wet brushes...I only use them on dry hair because they make me feel like I'm getting a scalp massage.) I, too, would like your opinion on sulfates. Are they really bad? Are there any 'special' recommendations for graying hair? I know my grays have a very different texture than my more pigmented hairs and they are driving me nuts. Thanks for any help!

carla smith: My hair thinned, terrible hair loss .... your long hair is beautiful ... pray your mom is doing good

Kathy E.: What do you think of the “conditioning shampoos,” “co-poo” , or washing the hair with conditioner only?

The Amber Heard Playlist!!: I hope everything’s going alright with your Mom

Kjenisa Kacorri: Thank you Dr.Dray Can we have more hair products that we can find in Europe ,for curly hair please Have a good day

Christina Moller: You have really compliant hair! I can’t wash it every day and I absolutely get split end over time.

D Favorito: Dr. Dray, I'm wondering if hair dyes/blond highlights are safe. When I was going to the salon the hairdresser used foil and I don't believe that came into contact with my scalp. However I've been doing my own at home and used a bleaching product and another time a permanent color all over my head, and it came in contact with scalp. At 61yrs I'm trying to look nice but I want to be safe too. I would love your viewpoint. D. Jeanne

Ruby Desiree: Dr dray what are your thoughts on this no silicone and sulphates trend? Do you think it is better for the hair or should we continue using sulphates and silicones in our hair products?

Uncle Charlie: I have no hair so I’m watching for the purposes of visual serenity. I like the word false and actually yelp it quite often. Love that shade of red your wearing but based on what you said the other day about your lighting changing the color of what you are wearing from the viewers perspective you might be in yellow for all I know. Lots of great information on hair in this video today Dray really top notch!!! ☕️⭐️

chloe ❤️: thank you for making such informative videos ❤️

Joannabanana1989: I did the no poo method for 8 months and destroyed my hair! The hair stylist said my hair was totally protein deficient and to use egg white masks. I had to get a lot cut off due to the damage. Now I wash it every other day and use conditioner and a heat protectant.

Michelle Gibson: Dr. Dray, did you get your Function of Beauty products with or without silicones? I'm guessing with, but just wondering! You're the best btw <3

Mz Tango: Hi Dr. Dray, this is my first time to make a comment here. What is your opinion on the hard water effects on thinning hair? I used to live in a big city with very good water from the Great Lakes, but now living in Florida with hard water. My hair is thinning. I know you said to get a diagnosis but I would still like your take on this. Thank you for all you do to educate us.

Sharma Xoxo: LED therapy is a game changer for hair. You don't need the Irestore either. I use the Newkey ($120) mask on my head and it works

Gina 463: Dr. Dray one thing I thought is so odd was, how ppl will wash their hair once a week, some ppl wash their hair twice a week or even like once a month, CRAZINESS! I will surely try Function of Beauty! I've been on a med for a couple yrs now for my cancer and it's drying my hair out which is making it frizzy and I have more hair fall out. I thought maybe Hairmax would be a good idea, wouldn't hurt to try anyway. Not only is your hair long, you have a lot of hair, a bit envy :) Have a great day!

Laetitia Labassee: Great video! I am always confused about the one that’s: silicone is bad for hair. My hair doesn’t look great when I use silicone free but is it really better? I actually love my function of beauty but when I switch my hair isn’t as great

Proud American: Just ordered the starter kit. Hope I love it as well. Thank you Dr. Dray.

Richard Luciano: I had to goto a Target today so I wanted to see what Function of Beauty is all about since my hair is long now. They were sold out shampoo for my hair type. So I grabbed some of Function's boosters, and grabbed the conditioner in my type and a conditioner in my beard's type. How acceptable is this?

Greta S: Dr dray, I’ve got fine hair that needs frequent washing but I’ve got sensitive dry skin (full body eczema etc. ). I’ve started using the gentle wash that I use on my face and hands (it’s an Australian off brand version of QV) to wash my scalp. I’ve finally found relief for my dry skin but Is this okay? Can this be used on hair?

Deepti Sam: Hello Dr Dray. Have you heard of Ayurvedic oils such as Kumkumadi Oil and Nalapamaradi Oil (I know it's a mouthful)? What's your take on these kind of herbal concoction oils touted to treat eczema, psoriasis, tanning, etc. and also for anti aging benefits? If you find this interesting, would LOVE a video from you! Love from India.

Cheralyn Bridges: This video makes me so happy I'm on a hair growth journey and so many people tell me I shouldn't wash my hair daily........its so infuriating

Percy Pig: What do you think about the hype surrounding using only silicone free hair products? I’ve tried to convert to this and my scalp has just turned into an angry, itchy being! Is it beneficial to break through this or just go back to what I love? Thank you

amabeauty92: What do you think about their Leave-In Conditioner? I know you haven't used it, but do you think it's worth it to try?

Mindy: Hi Dr Dray, can you do an updated video over psoriasis, and treatments like biologics? Thank you ♥️

ILoveAvatarShow: Please do a part 2! I need it

RunnerAAA: Have you considered doing a video reviewing shampoo and conditioner bars? I've heard good things about HiBAR, but haven't transitioned over to solids yet. :)

remainingembers: This may be a weird question, but if your scalp/hair has become dry - as in your scalp/skin stopped producing oil and you no longer get oily hair - is there a way to help replenish that? Heard people say jojoba is close to being like your own produced oil? Mine stopped getting greasy and now it's not quite as wavy and doesn't fall in smooth S-shapes like it used to.

peglakanta: Can someone (or Dr Dray if she has time ) tell me if air drying my hair can worsen dandruff? I have a lot of thick hair and it dries very slow but I cannot blowdry it in the summer, its too much

Jasmine K.: I recently discovered your channel and I LOVE IT! Thank you for such informative videos. I would like to see a video covering hair dyes. I never used them because I like my natural hair color, but recently I started noticing gray hair and I panicked. Do you color your hair and if you don’t, what kind of hair color you plan to use (if any), when your hair starts turning gray? Thank you

Calfyn Roberts: What are your thought on peppermint oil regarding hair growth? Also are there cheaper versions of regaine/rogaine?

Lila Carmo: Great video, Dr. Dray! What is your opinion on scalp scrubs? It’s sounds awful to me, but I could be wrong!

toomanynotes1: Another victim of pandemic hair loss here, and I get videos in my feed now of other people going through hair loss that are using derma rollers on their scalp. This seems like such a scary and damaging thing to do to an already stressed area, but I was wondering what you thought of it?

Jessica Galyon: I used to cut my hair once a year MAYBE.. I’ve always had long healthy hair.. You have completely convinced me curly girl method is NOT for me. I’ve gotten 2 cuts in 3 mo & look like I need another one already. 3 wks later. Only rules I will keep following is lots of deep conditioning, not using a towel, & satin pillowcases.

feylights: What if you color your hair? Yes, I know ideally you shouldn't, but my rotos grayed earlier, and I'm super self-conscious about it, so I get my hair professionally colored. But too much washing will make the color fade faster. FoB made my hair really soft, but it stripped my color, even though I selected the option for color-treated.

Emil Phoryew: Dr. Dray's hair is amazingly beautiful and amazing how quickly it grew out.

Daniela Morales: The myth I have heard the most is that you need to brush your hair a lot in order for your natural oils to be distributed. I have also heard that pH is very important in hair care products, and that you need a low pH shampoo, is that true? Love your videos . Greetings from Mexico!

Jennifer U: I tried Function of Beauty per your recommendation but unfortunately it made my hair incredibly dry, brittle, and shed. I am thankful for all of your other recommendations though, they have improved my skin and wallet beyond belief! Thanks Dr. Dray.

mary ann Gonzalez: Happy Wednesday dr Dray and everyone Thank you so much enjoy

Chanda Harkins: Just so you know, I have been successfully influenced. I bought FOB shampoo and conditioner, and tried it today for the first time. We'll see how it goes! Definitely cheaper than what I was using before, so that's a plus.

Gh0st Puppet: What are your thoughts on the ingredients of hairtage products at Walmart? I got a few things from it and I am really loving it. My hair feels much healthier now. But curious on your thoughts of drugstore hair brands

Susan Block: Thank you, Dr. Dray! My question is: Can Sodium Chloride in shampoos cause hair loss? TY

Leslie Lopez navarrete: what about skin care products? like serums, creams, exfoliators etc. does your skin get used to it? if yes how often do you change products?
