So you want long healthy, natural hair, your protective style. You do a little bit nipple Asian style, but your hair seems like it's stuck at one length, no matter what you do, sometimes it really isn't about the products. Are you using, but about your methods? Do you have a hair care routine? Do you care for your hair in between protective style? Are you gentle, when you detangling your hair? Well, today, I'm here to share with you my simple hair routine, that I have consistently used over the years which allowed me to go from this to this in less than three years. So this is my hair. After a protective style, it's dry it's matted, but when I'm done with my routine, it typically looks like this, although it's shrunken and I would smarsh dries and detangled when it comes to my hair care routine, I like it to be as minimalistic as possible, but yet Efficient, so I'll walk you through the steps that I take for healthy long, hair number, one pre-poo. I say this all the time you want to pre pull your hair just take my word for it, use an oil pre-poo and then see the difference, and especially when you're doing as consistently as you can, you definitely see a difference. You have less tangles. Your hair is less matted. Your shampoo will not strip your hair and you'll be able to condition your hair even prior to getting into the shower so pre pro is really important and I know there's so many different ways that people pre-poo but, like I said I like to keep things simple. So my favorite way is to honestly just use an oil use, your favorite oil before you get into the shower saturate your hair and your scalp put on the shower cap for about 20 minutes and then proceed to washing your hair most of the times. I do this the night before I wash my hair, so if I know I'm washing my hair in a Saturday Friday night I put in an oil put on my plastic cap and you know it's a wrap. So I did my hair in conditioned overnight with the oil and then in the morning I proceeded to wash my hair, as my hair gets longer. It becomes essential for me to pre poop, because I also use this step to take out any shed hair that I may have, especially if I'm coming out of a protective style, and I also section my hair, I personally like to get away with washing my hair. Without sectioning it, you know, like the white people, doing the commercials, but as my hair get longer, I know it's really important for me to break my hair down into sections so that it's easier for me to deal with in the shower and so that I prevent Less knots and tangles during the washing process, all right so now it's time to wash our hair. Typically, I hop in the shower, and I let the water just run through my hair and my main purpose with washing my hair is obviously getting my scalp clean and my hair clean, but I also try to do it as gentle as possible to prevent any tangles. Just because I'm trying to think ahead, you know if I manipulate my hair too too much in the shower, then I have to deal with all these tangles later on when it comes down to detangling. So I'm extra careful as you will see, I typically try to keep my hair stretch as much as possible, as I massage my scalp I hold on to my ends so that my hair is not, you know matting and getting more tangles, and it already has the Point of washing your hair is to get you stopped clean. I only put shampoo on my scalp and then I run it through my hair and eventually it cleans my strands, but I'm not concerned for my access trends, I'm mostly concerned and getting my scalp clean and once I do a section I put in a twist and Move on to the next section, when my hair used to be shorter, I did get away without working in sections, but that's a luxury that I can't afford anymore, because my hair will shrink and I'll have a ton of tangles afterwards. So the next step is to dip conditioned and detangle your hair. I start this step in the shower, but - and I finish outside of the show, so once I'm done washing my hair, I rinse out the shampoo - I honestly just slap on the dip conditioner all over. My hair, I don't bother to use conditioners at all unless I'm co-washing or something so not very often, I would say I use conditioners, I just don't even bother. I would just go to a deep conditioner just to give myself that extra moisture that it's needed, because my hair is naturally really dry, so I can't afford to not deep conditioned, whereas conditioner honestly doesn't really do anything. It just sits on my hair. I rinse it out and then my hair dries and it's like it never happened. So I don't bother with conditioners, but deep conditioning is really key for me. One tip I could give is if you have a deep conditioner, that's not really doing it for you. You could try to add an oil to your hair after you put on the deep conditioner and I find that it helps a deep condition or condition your hair a little bit more. If your deep conditioner is not doing it for users, and also I should mention when I am deep conditioning the entire time you can tell in the shower, I am separating my hair and making sure that I get out some of the tangled hair or any shed Hair, that's still in there. That will also help me later on when it comes down to detangling my hair. Okay, so I have a confession. I have been deep conditioning for just under 24 hours. Oh, my god! I'M a mess, I'm a mess after I let the deep conditioners sit in my hair for 2-3 for 24 hours. You know who's counting. I proceed to detangle my hair and when it comes to detangling, I mainly start with my hands. So your fingers are the cheapest tools that you will ever have and they're very effective detangling your hair. So when I use my fingers I can tell where the tangles are: it's extra gentle and my strands, I'm not ripping my hair out. So I always start with my fingers first and once my hair is mainly detangled, then I go over it with a comb just to make sure that my hair is well detangle and then I put my hair back into the twist. I would always recommend using a wide tooth comb. I don't recommend using anything smelter than that to detangle your hair, especially after you wash in deep condition, just because your strands are very delicate and you don't want to go in with something that is too small. There are other tools out there that you can use. There'S the Denman brush, there's a tangle teezer, no matter what you use. My first tip will be to start with your fingers and to also work in sections. You may want to experiment to see what works best for you, but when in doubt, finger detangle first and then use whatever you want here feels so good after watching DIC conditioning it looks crazy, but it feels like bottle baby alright, so we're almost done we're almost At the end of our haircare routine, all that's left right now is to moisturize and I always say, moisturize and seal, because all of the stuff that we've done was to infuse moisture into our hair, we're pre food. We dip conditioned so now. We'Re going to put a moisturizer on the most important part is to seal that moisture in because your hair is just gon na dry and everything that you put into it. It'S just going to evaporate. So it's important to not just moisturize your hair, but to seal in that moisture. The easiest sealant that you can use is something that is oil-based, such as a butter. Shea butter mango butter or whatever your hearing likes 4c hair is typically naturally very dry. My hair is extremely dry, so this is the best way for me to moisturize and then seal the moisture in so that my hair isn't dry the next day or literally a few hours later. I know you know what I'm talking about the very last step in our routine is to do a little nipple, a tip style. I don't technically mean a protective style, although you can protective style, your hair, if you want to, but I'm talking about something low-key little maintenance that will last you a week so that you can repeat this routine a week later. Personally, I like to do this. Every single week I'm not 100 % consistent, but I try to be as consistent as possible so that I am constantly washing deep conditioning and moisturizing. My hair, like I said my hair, is extremely dry. So if I don't do that, then eventually my hair will start breaking off so bi-lo manipulation style. I mean something like a twist out braid out. You could leave your hair and twist for the week, something that will not require you to manipulate your hair every single day. So, if you notice so far, I did not mention not a single thing about products. There'S so many products out there and everybody has a special recipe and a special sauce for their hair. I absolutely believe that your method is more important than the actual products. Are you using? Of course you don't want to use a product that doesn't go well with your hair, but the reality is there's so many options that you are bound to find something that works. However, you can have good quality products and still have short, broken hair. So once you have a hair care routine that works for you, I think that's more important, then you can start incorporating products or switching things in and out to find what works best. Of course, if you want more detail on each steps as well as which products that I use to grow up, my hair I'll be more than happy to do so. Just leave a comment down below, but to end this video. I will leave you with a little timeline of my hair growth journey, so hopefully it inspires some of you guys to take better care of your hair, and I know time I get up out of here: don't forget to hit the scrub button, so you get notified Every single time I upload a new video subscribe, says for more quality content and I'll see you next time. Bye,

Jenn Jackson: Thank you for the incredible response to this video. If you have ANY questions regarding my routine or any hair concerns, leave a comment below and I will address them in subsequent videos. Let's grow LONG AND HEALTHY 4C hair! xo

Jocoby Junious: Let me tell you, my 4c girls have been showing OUT lately. I remember back when on YT it felt like it was so hard to find other girls whose hair looked like mine. Who had a routine I could follow. Not anymore baby! Great video, girl.

Koboko Fitness: “like the white people do in the commercials”

Keep it 100 Xo: I grew up feeling ashamed of my real 4c hair but ever since going natural I realize that A) It is cheaper B) A sign of confidence. Let’s flaunt it because our hair is our crown, it is beautiful. Where are my 4c hair girls at ?

DiscoveringNatural: I love your routine.. so similar to mine.

MADE by Radw: This video is SO well put together. Talk about effort

Tishara Doby: I swear y’all be making this look so easy I be *STRUGGLING* !!!!

Lila Bare: This inspired me to take more time for my hair. I've avoided pre-pooing but, I think I'm going to start to now. Thanks for the awesome vid! UPDATE: I cannot thank you enough! My hair feels AMAZING (soft and hydrated) because I pre-poo’d! This will now be apart of my regimen!! I’m so happy rn!!

Sabrina Malcolm: At first I was like that’s not a lotta hair for 3 years then she stretched it pass her chin then I was like OH SHIT that’s a lotta hair for 3 years.

Sisi Bee: All helpful tips, thanks Jenn. I need to stop being a lazy natural. ‍♀️

Kaka Nwanekezie: Hello Jenn. Thank you so much for making this video. I feel like I've finally found a role model on youtube and my hair can finally grow now. I'm Nigerian and I have very thick 4c hair and most times, I feel downcast because I put in so much and yet achieve very little but seeing your hair, those fears are all gone

Katelynn Stan: Lived my whole life insecure of my “hair”. Had my first perm at 1 so what can I say? This makes me want to give my dry tumbleweed the time of day. Thank you ❤️

Irene Ella: Omgggg I with I could flattwist my hair straight back like this and it looks this nice I would literally do it all the time if I could.

Nic Bonds: EXCELLENT VIDEO SIS!! Top notch! Thank you I just took out my locs of 7 years and I’m relearning how to care for my loose natural hair. You’ve given me HOPE.

psr076: I love how your hair is healthy and thick ! There is a lot of growth. We have a similar hair routine but I detangle before putting the deep conditioner.

Autumn Canada: This is probably the most helpful video I've ever seen for growth. I usually see videos about "miracle products" or how I'm doing everything wrong. This video makes the hair journey 10 times more approachable. I watch some videos and feel like fine I'll just be bald-headed then, but this video makes me feel like I can do this even with my 4C. Thank you :)

MelaninGurl: Omg i remember watching your video when you shaved your head over and over just to confirm that doing a big chop was what i wanted . I can’t believe how your hair has grown since then . Please continue to doc videos like this one i love it and it’s extremely inspiring . It’ll be 2yrs for me this September

NaturaleeMoni: This video is so well put together and edited! Thanks for sharing your routine. I would love to know tips on finding a moisturizer. What are your current top picks? And what steps did you take to figure out what worked for you?

Ashley Brooks: Thanks for being realistic with 3 years of growth!! My hair is a similar length to you after 3 years so I appreciate u! I was beginning to feel discouraged about my hair length. Great video

Kay None: I just started doing this routine about a month ago and noticed a difference. I work out alot so I try to find styles that can stay and I have to pin up my hair for work. Going to try the twist to the back. Your hair looks great!

Mageline X: Great video! I have 4C hair, I totally agree with your routine.I decided to go natural 2 years ago, I have been doing pretty much the same steps and I am very satisfied with my results.

Timetrae: Girl! Do you have a tutorial on those mini twists???? Those were

Farah Pierre: I'm viewing your channel today for the first time. I love how you break things down. Thanks for sharing your hair routine. Looking forward for more tutorials!

Max: This just made me feel better about my hair. My hair is coming up on 3 years later this year, we are about the same length. Prior I always felt like it wasnt good enough but I just realized I am doing ok. I am still not happy about my shedding and breakage rates but I guess I can be happy with how much length I have retained.

Reigning Wðmßåñ: This video was everything that I needed immediately, inspiring, encouraging and more! Thank you so much!! #NewSubbie A few of my take-aways are: 1. Pre-Poo 2. Deep Condition 3. A confirmation that what worked on my shorter hair will not work on my longer hair. 4. Detangling with fingers and low manipulation styles. 5. SECTION MY HAIR! Thank you, thank you!

DeLauryn Brown: yes yes yes i loved this video, and i really love the way you take care of and style your hair! thank you for this :) im inspired!

David Stephenson: Loved this. This was amazing. Especially being adopted with 4c hair. Makes me wanna cry this makes me believe I can do it for once at 22

Jessica Washington: I just did these steps on my daughter’s hair and it came out so hydrated, soft and detangled. She just had box braids in her hair

Shawnny Collins: For 8 years I have always started my routine by detangling my hair with Apple cider vinegar and water mixture, but I think I'm going to try the prepoo with oils. The thought of washing all those good oils out my hair is a little hard for me to grasp but I'll give it a try. Also I like how you keep your hair stretched during each routine, that should eliminate single strand knots.

Precious H: Beautiful!, had the same type of hair for a while but got frustrated at how quickly the "growth" would show when i had my hair braided making the styles that took 4 hours to do last only 2 weeks so I quit. This video takes me back to those days . Sending much love you all my 4c girls your hair is beautiful keep at it

Amazing Adaeze: I just cut my hair a few weeks back and this gives me motivation to not giving up on growing it! Thank u

Sharon Williams: I love how fluid you are with your styles. I absolutely love to get hair style ideas from you since we are both on our hair journey. I know it’s been a year and I’m sure your hair has risen to its proper occasion. Can u please send me those styles so I can have a blueprint on how to style my 4c hair. Thank your

Dude: You're right. This is one of the best videos I've watched on this topic. I wish I saw this earlier in my journey, but I've now created a pretty good regimen that's similar to yours, but I detangle while prepooing, not after DCing

Rael Mwende: Your editing and videos are so professional i wanna get to your level!

Black Ceasar: Thanks, Jenn! I'm going to do this process on my daughter's hair today.

Coffee With Abby: Your hair is soo healthy

Wednesday Quansah: Thank you so much for this video! I just have one question: Did you ever rinse the deep conditioner out of your hair or did you just leave it in?

Katelyn Gatewood: tysm for this video ! i big chopped 3 years ago and I’m struggling with my 4c hair so much . this video was so well detailed . i hate our 4c hair is naturally dry ☹️ but i still love it .

Sandra E: Yes, finally 4c, that's exactly how I wash my hair. My hair type is exactly the same. Finally someone with the same hair type& actually 4c. Finally someone I 'm comfortable. I spent 6 months following someone just to find out they were 4a/4b. Thank you !

Mina #9: I love your versatility. Those twists were the bomb. Every style was rockin. My hair wants to be like yours when it grows up lol

Muna okezie: Your hair is so healthy and beautiful Jenn. Thank you so much for sharing, it's so helpful. Love you so much.

Zoë Haakmat: Wow that was awesome! Clean and professionally done! Love your hair styles, I try to copy some on my own hair. I would love to see what type of hydrating products you use. I've just realized that most of my products are protein based. Hence my very dry and snapping hairstrands

tiffany trowers: I wish I could love this video...tears...girl you just gave me something incredible. It's called confidence.

Vicky Bongomin: I just washed my hair this past weekend but I already cant wait to try this in a couple weeks!! Love this video Great job

KammyKamzz: This is my routine too. However I wash my hair every other week. But I do remoisturize weekly using the LOC method. I don’t use conditioners either.. waste of time.. just go straight to deep conditioning. Great video. TFS!

exclusiveop: This was really helpful! I loved all the styles you did. I'd love to see more style inspo videos from you. I only do the same two styles lol.

Julissa J: Hey Jen! I’m new here. I’m always wearing protective styles (Braids and Crochet) and end up wearing them for very long periods of time! I think my hair is at a healthy state, the problem is caring for it WHILE IN THE PROTECTIVE STYLE is very hard!! I’m having a hard time with this. I’m looking for products that will enhance my curl pattern and less shrinkage.

Sarah Joy: Jenn!! I didn't know you had a Youtube channel. You probably don't remember me from Uni but that's okay lol. I really enjoyed this video as I have 4C hair (big chop status). Thanks for the tips honestly. I just subscribed and will definitely watch more of your videos!

Bee: Been with my lover for about 4 years now and I'm now starting to try and help them take care of their hair, so I can not thank you enough for helping me learn how to do it properly!

J Ntshinga: The hair journey is definitely inspirational. Thx. I'm in my 3month of growing my hair from a big chop.

Cam Alice: Hi. Love love love your video!!! One question-what type of curlers did you use at 9:20? Did you put them in when your hair was wet or dry? Did the style last for a week or did you have to put them back in during the week? Thanks a lot.

Ashley Gipson: Yaass!!! finally a routine for 4C that is simple and that gets to the point!!! Thank you!!! XOXO

Nadine Francois: Hi! Thank you so much for this video, soooo helpful!! What is the difference between a deep conditioner and a regular conditioner? Does the bottle have to specifically say “ deep conditioner “?

LoveBrittny J: definitely a helpful a video ✨ Been looking for something to change me hair care routine around and I think I found it and your hair looks really nice

Yvette La Fleur: This routine and the tgin products you've mentioned omg have improved the dryness and have been a game changer. I've never used conditioner as well. I LOVE shea butter and melt it a bit after conditioning and slathering it on, but loving tgin butter the next day on dry braid out. Thanks Sis love your videos and hoping you and mom are well.

Laylah-Bug: I'm currently trying to learn how to take care of my own hair cause my mom told me I'm old enough to do it myself now, and this was suuupperrrrr helpful. Tysm!! ❤️

jacqueline jacqueline: That was a great video, i started my natural journey in November of 2017, so we are more or less the same. I will be keeping on eye on your progress, Thank you. Yes Loved the flat twist.

L. J.: Wow! Thank you so much for sharing your routine and just the realness! I love it!

HelloCha: This was well put together and exactly what I do to grow my hair...SUBSCRIBED!

Charlotte Roberts: Thanks for the tips Jenn! I truly that good regimen is the fundamental for successful hair growth.

Yolanda B: Thanks for the video, Jenn. It is very helpful. I would love to see a video on the products you use.

faithmaryk: thank you for the breakdown. I will start doing this more consistently.

NthabiLu: Been natural for just under 3 years... But I learnt a lot from this video.. Thanks sis ❤️

Jo Ann Wilkins: Nicely done! I look forward to checking out any other videos you have. Thanks so much!

Monique Morris: Great video! I think I need to improve on patience when detangling so I don't rip my hair out

Lea Mychelle: Please, Can you do a tutorial on the mini twist?? When I saw the perfection I damn near cried. I haven't been able to achieve those types of twist. I've been doing flat twist outs for the past three years and I do finger coils occasionally. But two-strand twist is something that I haven't mastered yet lol.

marlene lewis: Great video. Very precise and helpful!

Itunu Adekoya: Thanks for sharing your routine. My issue with this is that it takes 2+ days. Pre-poo overnight then deep-condition overnight. It is this sort of thing that prevents black women from carrying their natural hair. It is the amount of work we have told them that they have to put in. Multiple complicated overnight steps. What happened to shampoo, rinse and detangling using a wide-tooth comb with a good conditioner with nice slip. A low maintenance style and keep it pushing. All takes 30 mins to 2 hours tops.

Baruch1girl: All I see is HEALTH! Great video sis!

Naturally Mati: Your hair is so healthy I love your routine ❤️

Brownskingirl: Now that we are all shut in our homes I like the fact I can just let my hair be. I plan on wear a bushy full fro this Hoilday Season. A full crown of fluffy beautiful locks.

Ryan Owens: The first look was so gorgeous! So many ideas overall :) *SUBSCRIBED*

marian B: I thought I recognized you... Your back! Very good to see you again. Thank you for this awesome video. It was very detailed and I like your regimen. Even though I know it's not all about the products, I would love to see what you use.

Tea Kea: One of the best videos Ive seen in a Long time! Right to the point! Great pics and info...thank you!

S. Love: I literally just cut all the relaxer out of my hair this week. Your channel is everything!!!! Binge watching! Lbvs! Thank you!!!!

Danielle Riley: Loved the video! Thanks. I'm growing out a short tapered cut with shaved sides and back. Can you do a video that talks about growing out a short cut? I hardly see any information on now to get out of that shaved stage.

Isa Virtual: This is so well explained. I do the exact hair steps lmfao

ShyGirl36: These type of videos have really helped me with my daughter's hair. And you are gorgeous, love those styles you did

Jo: Ohhhhh my gosh those mini twists are sooooooo bomb on you!! You would look really nice with some sisterlocs also. My hair always fails with mini twists‍♀️

Marquita Bingham: This was amazing! Now I need a video on each of those styles lol

K Hodge: Thanks Jen I just found your channel. I wear allllot of protective styles now I’m ready to start really treating my hair… thanks for the tips

Monica Lujan: Love this! Its straight to the point and simple!

Winifred: You inspired me to stay natural after watching your hair journey video

Francesca Kyanda: I'm very new to doing my own hair, so I'm trying to learn everything I can, I'm so jealous of your hair!

karen raquel: Hi, this is the 1st video I'm viewing and I got to say I love your energy and I got be thankful for the tips. I had a difficult time understanding what kind of products you use but I guess that I can adapt my products to the steps that you gave. I have high density 4c hair so I can understand when you say, that you wash your hair like the people in the comercial because that's the same way I be applying my shampoo and deep conditioner

Estelle Mbombo: ✔ We have the exact same hair routine And your hair looks amazing Thumbs up for you

Mya De Paris: Hey am new here. You did a great job on ur hair. Love all the process.

Taja Jamie: I loved all the styles you did at the end

Regina Johnson: Two minutes into the post and I thought "Yep, that's my hair." Thanks for sharing your routine. Loved the braided style! Personally, I find my hair extremely EXHAUSTING to work with. On a trip through the beauty section of Burlington (formerly Burlington Coat Factory) I found a biotin conditioner by SJ Hair Care. It's in a 32oz bluish/purple bottle. It has Argan, Hemp, Castor and Coconut oil, Biotin, Shea Butter, Vitamin E and Keratin. It is truly a GIFT FROM GOD.

Courtney: Finally found content for hair EXACTLY like mine. Yay!

MissAbFabMommy: When your hair was super short, how did you maintain it daily? I just got mine cut (didn't expect the stylist to cut it as short as she did, but that's another story) and not sure how to keep the style/curl daily.

Princess 3ks: This is great. Just started following you in the gram which led me to this page. Looking forward to using these tips.

Esi Morrison: Beautiful! Thank you for sharing. You must be hair stylist you handled the braids like a pro. Thank you

curliefro: Your hair has thrived beautifully

Monica J NYC: The Mielle Pomegranate and Honey line (shampoo, instant conditioner, leave-in conditioner, styling product, and almond mint oil) moisturizes my hair when I do not deep condition...I agree that pre-pooing really cuts down on tangles (I use a hair mask or a hair oil)...

5%LowBattery: I’ve become an even lazier natural during quarantine. I do just 2 sections to wash. And wash and deep condition my hair in less than 20 mins. And 20 mins to moisturize and re-twist. (I used to wash in 6 twists, my hot water only last 20 mins)

Mamzo Remza: Great video! I just had to subscribe! Thank you so much. I'll try to avoid the laziness I have. My hair is still short, my crown section is even shorter, I guess I have to work on a routine and moisturize my hair more.

LivingLifeAs_TClanton: Thank you for this!! i never know what to do with my hair and it’s texture. This was really helpful.

Mr. Davis: Thank you so much for all the information, it really helped me out. I do have a question though, how often do you wash, and co-wash??? Thank you again for all of your help.

Joya Tiana Wright: Thanks for this and thanks for getting straight to the point! A lot of these videos I end up skipping because 5 minutes in they are still talking in circles and rambling
