Silver Hair At Home | How To | Maintenance | Damage | Hair Care

This video is all about SILVER / GREY / GRANNY HAIR and doing it at home. I went through the hair dyeing process and how to do it at home, as well as colour maintenance, damage prevention and how I saved my hair from the bleach damage, dealing with dry hair, how I style it and how often I wash it, hair care routine and all the FAQs you guys have left me in previous videos.

I am not a professional and I'm not a hairdresser. All the hair you see is my natural hair, so if you were wondering how bleaching and going silver will work on your super long hair, here you go.

BLEACHING.

First thing you need to know is that to go silver, you HAVE TO bleach your hair. You need to take all of the colour out of the hair to then put in silver colour.

Bleach Powder I used is Nirvel Artx Blue. (you have to mix the powder with the developer - read next step)

PREVENTING DAMAGE / PRESERVING HAIR STRENGTH

The Developer / Peroxide Cream I used is from Nirvel: I used 40V but that is very damaging, go for 20V and wait longer, that way you will prevent damage.

Another way to prevent damage is the use Olaplex no1 in the bleaching mixture (read how to use it on the www.olaplex.com website).

TONING YELLOW / BRASSY TONES IN HAIR

To get silver hair you have to make sure there are no yellow / orange / brassy tones. The blue in the bleaching powder helps to tone the hair but the yellow comes back over time. So you will have to wash your hair with white hair / purple shampoo. The one I use is from Nirvel - the white hair shampoo . ➞ http://ebay.to/1Qw2UG7

COLOURING CONDITIONER

I don't like to use permanent / semi-permanent hair dye to get the silver hair colour. (So without this step, you'd have white hair, not silver.) So for the silver you HAVE TO use some sort of colour. Now because hair dyes require a mix with developer, and I believe that causes some sort of damage to the hair shaft, I rather opt for coloured conditioners, because hair dyes WILL STILL fade over time. I typically like to do the coloured conditioner mix every 2 weeks, but that's because I'm really scared of going green (read about that further down.) But you can even go for once a month. For coloured conditioner I mix very few drops of the Nirvel Artx Nutre color in grey with white conditioner (I highly recommend Suave Coconut conditioner because it's silicone free so it applies the colour more evenly). Now with the Nirvel Artx, you can add more or less drops to go for a darker silver / or a grey / dark grey / ash blonde. So you'll have to experiment with the quantity to get the right colour. I only use like a grape-size amount of it with enough conditioner for two applications. http://ebay.to/1JxV8Hx

Because I had blue-purple hair, my hair is pretty much stained green, so to counteract the green, with the silver coloured conditioner mix I add a few drops of Crazy Colour by renbow in fire and mix it. (Red cancels out green).

TO AMPLIFY THE COLOUR

I use the ROUX temporary hair colour rinse 42 silver lining on towel dried hair. This is a rinse out colour so it washes out with the next shampoo. This gives the hair a very glossy and steely kind of look, and evens out the colour as well. This also conditions the hair, because it has conditioning agents. It is not at all damaging. http://ebay.to/1JWiaeF

HAIR TREATMENTS.

To combat split ends - I do an olaplex treatment once every three weeks, and yes this has helped my hair A LOT. (like I did here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UuqYU...) This helps with split ends and the internal structure of the hair.

To combat dry hair - I do a coconut oil + aloe vera gel treatment. I mix an equal amount of coconut oil with hair conditioner (so that it doesn't drip all over the place.) And I mix in a teaspoon of aloe vera gel too. This adds shine and prevents dryness. I use KTC coconut oil and ESI aloe vera gel.

HAIR STYLING

I wash my hair once a week so that leaves my hair in natural oils and that's really good for the hair.

I straighten my hair once a week (I sometimes skip straightening it if it's a good hair day). To preserve the hair styling, I use the Tres Emme keratin smooth 7 day heat activated treatment and Tres Emme keratin smooth. heat protection shine spray as explained in the video.

I use my GHD IV hair styler / straightener to straighten it.

After I straighten my hair I use the 100% pure Argan Oil to tame the frizz.

Hi guys so in today's video I will be sharing with you guys, a couple of things, so it's mainly on silver hair, but I will also be sharing my hair care routine. I will be sharing what I have learned so far like when it comes to this hair color. I am NOT a professional, I am NOT a hairdresser, but ever since I went silver, my respect for hairdressers has like increased because I don't go to hairdressers. I do everything at home and I I have had my own share of hair, fails and I don't know how my hair is still intact. So, based on those mistakes and the things that I have learned, I will be giving you guys advice if you guys are going silver. So this is all like in this video there's all you need to know and maintenance oops, oh yeah, I'm going to share with you guys how I maintain my hair - and I have you know when silver on my own - and I haven't done my roots, because I Don'T want to do them because I think I'm going to grow up my hair naturally, like you know so this is my real hair color for your reference and, let's just start with the video. So essentially, if you are thinking about going silver, you have to bleach your hair. You do not have an option. Okay, think of it this way, so we need to take all the color from your hair so that you can put the gray in the grey or silver whatever shade you want to go for. Grey is obviously darker than silver. Silver is typically between white and silver. Like more than Ash, though, because like an ashy blonde is, like you know, not yellow, I guess so think of it. This way, if you have any yellow tones in your hair, it's going to mix with the gray and the gray is not going to latch on. Like it's not going to go on to your hair, gray and yellow are on the opposite side of the spectrum. Silver hair dyes do exist, but if you put silver, hair dye on say like care of this color, it will not work okay, so that is designed to go on top of bleach. Now. I personally do not like to go for permanent or semi-permanent hair that you have to use a developer with that, and I believe that there's some sort of damage with that - and I just rather use a colored conditioner, because both permanent and semi-permanent gray or silver hair Dyes actually do not stay in your hair, so whatever you do, this is not a permanent thing. You will have to maintain your hair and it does require maintenance. So so, when it comes to bleaching my hair, I use the nerville artex blue. This is the lightining. How their this is bleaching powder? Okay and I use the developer now. I have used 40 volume and I do not recommend to go for 40 volume use 20 volume and leave it on for longer way. Less damage same result go for 20 volume. Okay, Porsche volume is way too damaging. I should know I had to like maintain my hair log by the way, this is all my natural hair and all of it. So it's very very long and I like I do not have burnt hair, but I'm very surprised because my hair was at a very healthy stage when I decided to go. You know silver so always make sure to know where your hair is at. So if your hair is damaged, do not choose to go silver because you might need to have like chop it off because to bleach your hair, it's damaging, but there are two ways to minimize those damages so by using 20 volume developer instead of 40 and secondly, Use all the plagues number one with your mixture. Now all of this number one is exclusively for hairdressers, but of course I got my hands on it and you can get your own from eBay as well. So I will put links in the down bar where you can get that from. So what you need to do is put a couple of drops of all effects: number one, I'm not very good at measuring stuff. So I'm a very bad person to give advice on that. I just put a couple of drops in the mixture. I would because actually, when I reach my hair, didn't even know oval applix guy thing you have taught me well, though, so make sure you guys use all effects. If you want to use bleach, it will help your hair not get as damaged. Actually, it will help your hair stay healthy. Okay. Now, when you, your hair, you need to get it to the palest color that you can get. It usually becomes like the thing that people describe this as it has to be the same color as the inside of banana, otherwise gray will not catch on to your hair, white, hair, shampoo or silver hair shampoo. It needs to be a pale in color, okay, so purpose rapport whatever it's called is your best friend to turn out the orange tones in your hair, but if it's too orangey, so it's like it cleans too much orange. It will not tone it down. But if you have that extra you know yellow tones in your hair, it will help you know, strip that yellow a bit out and obviously I have to reuse the purple shampoo. Every time you wash your hair, even when you have silver hair, I have used different shampoos with my hair and yes, I do think that the white hair makes it look for glossy air and far more nice. Then you know, if you don't use it for white hair shampoo. I recommend the nerville one. I will like this one. I actually get this from a shop here in Malta, but I saw a link on eBay. It'S very very, very appear. Let me show you it's. It'S like an intense purple and it really brightens up the hair and it's very pigmented I found like you, can see some of the color. It'S basically the same color as you see here, but a bit more purpley. I think it. It really helps to you know, town a tone of your hair, and it makes it adds shine to your hair. So I really like that because I feel, like I'm talking a lot now to get the grey once you get like once you bleach your hair and make sure that you bleach it evenly because the very first time I didn't bleach it evenly and I had like It was even tougher to fix the next time, so then, what I do I use this thing. So this is the nerville a neutral color. This is a hair dye thing. This is in grey, but this is like a very, very pigmented conditioner. It'S very very! It'S almost black, but it's not black, so what I use. I don't use this on this tone, obviously because otherwise my hair would turn almost this color, but, like a more kind of gray color, I use a couple of drops with conditioner with white conditioner. Now I used to use this one. The Tresemme breakage defense mask, but I read somewhere that you need to use a silicone free conditioner to get more of an even application and I tried it and it works so much better. I recommend the suave coconut conditioner. It'S amazing silicone free and it really does help. You know apply it more evenly. So that's the one. I will be repair to sing this one was good, but it's just the silicone doesn't really apply it properly, but anyway I used the tubs for this reason. So can you see that right there so that in there is a lot of conditioner and in here I actually don't have the small one, because I have some other ones that I'm using I'm using the haribol essence is the new naked conditioner and no it's not Silicone free, the shampoo, is actually silicone free. So in here I mix the conditioner the a couple of jobs of the nerville natural color in the shade gray, and I only use like like this much well. It depends on the amount, like the amount of conditioner that I have in here, but I only use a little and I go at it like I throw in some more. If I feel like, I need more color. The fun thing about this is that if you feel like going a bit darker, you can just use a bit more or if you feel like going lighter, use a bit list and you can easily dilute it between gray and you know, silver to get the ultimate Color shade that you want and that's really fun - and this has lasted me for a very long time - and I barely even touched it, because I only use like very very little now when it comes to been a very color. It'S not a true gray color like when you when I mix it, I find, has a bit of a purple tone but a dull kind of purple. So that's how it looks like um. So that's how it looks like like when you direct it. I guess um the reason why this looks so pinky kind of thing like I use this. This is the crazy color by rainbow in the shade fire, and I used a couple of drops of this because I I went blue / purple, but on the blue side and that tinted my hair bits green. So, in order to tone that out and to you know eliminate that I guess from my hair, I need to pour in a bit more red because red cancels green and that works nice for me. But if you don't have green tones opt out from this, you don't really need this for silver hair. You need this. If you have the green tones in your hair, you know the final thing that is related to color, and this I do pretty much after every single wash, because this is a rinse out. Color thing this is by rooks or Rush. Not no charts data is straight. Forty two shades silver lining and what you do is you just apply this in your hair. This is a very liquidy product and it gives your hair a very steel kind of look by the way. The funny thing about silver hair is that when it's wet, it's very, very different looking than when it's dry like it doesn't look like this when it's wet it at all, it looks like green purpley, like all sorts of colors, sometimes so yeah when it comes to This thing this will not work. You say you have like dark colors. It will only work like to add some sort of you know dimension to your shade. You know what I mean, so this only adds to the color. It doesn't give you the color 100 %. If you know what I mean, but if you have blonde hair, it might give you like an arch blond, but on my hair with the neutral color. It gives me this beautiful color, and I really really like that. One thing that I don't like about this is because of the shipping, because it's so heavy it actually turns out quite expensive, and this product is actually quite cheap. What can you do help on to hair treatments? This is what I use on my hair, and this is how I keep my hair looking and feeling healthy, and so what I use is so, okay, let me picture it this way so week, 1 week, 2 week 3 for week, 1 and week 2. So, for those two consecutive weeks I do a coconut oil and aloe vera mask so I just mix those together with some conditioner to actually like not have a drip all over the place, use the tourism a mosque. This is a major construction mass, so you mix up with some of the coconut oil and aloe vera, and I applied it in my hair and I do like have it on for like half an hour to an hour. Usually I leave this on so that my hair soaks in the moisture - because this is a problem with when you have bleached hair, it dries out very quickly and I used to have a very oily hair. So yeah the moisture is an issue and I want week three. What I do is an olaplex treatment and I'm not going to go much into detail because I do have a video on that. So you guys, can you know it's more of a first impression video, but I pretty much do the same thing that I did in that video. I use a lot next one and then I use all updates too on top and that I do on the third week and then four weeks, a four and five coconut oil and aloe vera mask for six olaplex treatments. So, every three weeks I do in all aplex treatment because it helps the internal structure of the hair. Now this is something that I do to minimize the heat styling because I always have. I always want to have, like you know, ice neat looking here. So what I do is I straighten my hair only once a week, and I straighten this once a week because I wash my hair once a week whenever you don't wash your hair, you leave your natural oils to come out and that is actually healthy for your Hair, I don't sweat a lot so if you have like, if you sweat a lot - and that is an issue to you and you need to wash your hair, I'm sorry - I can't help you with that, but I don't sweat a lot. So I don't really sweat from my head, so you know my hair pretty much stays clean to help make it feel clean. I use baby powder baby powder. I like to use this stuff on a lot of Profumo, so this is in pretty rosy and it smells so good. I really like that. I also like to use the vo5 dry shampoo, every now and there, by pretty much thing that this one is like way cheaper and it pretty much weighs the same. So I rather just recommend this one. I do straighten my hair once a week and actually have my hair, like I just traced in this today, but sometimes um like you know: okay, my hair, pretty much stays straight ish all week, because I use these two products and I highly recommend these. I have been repurchasing since forever, like ever since I started using these desired strands and make her thin, smooth 7-day, smooth system heat activated treatment. I apply this in my hair when my hair is taller dry, so I applied this in my hair and this and the next product. So this I apply it when my hairstyle dried and then when my hair is air dried because I try to air dry, my hair, except for today or yesterday, was in yesterday. Yes, I kind of blow-dried, my hair, because it was kind of annoying. But no, I wanted to sleep without my hair being wet and I use this thing the next one. This is the heat protection shine spray from the same range pretty much well. This one is the certain days smooth range and this one is just keratin smooth, heat-activated treatment. This comes in a spray bottle. I spray this on my hair right before I straighten it. So I pick up a strand I brush through my hair. I spray this onto my hair and then I straighten it, so that is how it works, and this least surprised the keratin in these two products is not a permanent thing, but this actually helps your hair. Remember that you have to really straighten it and accuse my hair pretty much nice looking all week. No, I don't like keep my hair down like if I'm just at home. I took it up in a bun, but not in a bun with a rubber band because that's really marks the hair. So I rather just you know to like a twisty bun and I clip the end against my hair. So, that's why I don't really ruin the style of my hair and I don't really have lines in my hair. You know so that's pretty much gon na do to straighten my hair. I use the GHD for the version, for I bought it from PG & E Gautam, and sometimes they make some really cool offers. And yes, it's definitely worth the money because it does make my hair look and feel very silky smooth and it glides through the hair. Amazingly, I don't know if you guys want to see a review on up. I really like my DJ. Yes Thank You, Maya from blue jeans in red lipstick. She actually told me to buy it because it's so good and I don't regret my money. Okay, now the last thing I do if I straighten my hair - and it usually does this like because of the dry sex chair, it doesn't look silky smooth and it looks kind of frizzy. I used 100 % pure argan oil on the ends of my hair. Just apply a bit on my hands and I you know apply it on the hair and just pull it down, and it helps make my hair look more shiny only on the end, so um the the roots. You know, because I don't want my hair to look flat, not sure, but I think I managed to talk about pretty much everything. I'M sorry. If this videos, like SuperDuper long and if guys have any questions, do use the comment section below, I will get back to you on there and I think that pretty much sums up all I have to say in this video, so I'm gon na shut up. Now. Thank you guys so much for watching and I'll see you guys in the next video Pizza

Mateusz Trocha: Great hair! If anyone is looking for a more permanent solution, I recommend the Goldwell P Mix (or pearl mix), turns out really dark grey and fades into silver.

GreenRabbit inTheWoods: So beautiful! I cannot wait for my hair to grow longer to see what I will do with it. :D It grows quite quick after the shave!

Sheila: I Always use 20 vol and it works perfectly. I hate when you find a cheap product but the shipping is so expensive Great video as always x

Nicole Previ: Fellow malteser here! <3 <3 Was watching your other Silver hair at home video and immediately recognized your accent (Subscribed!)! I'm currently struggling to get/keep up silver/grey balayage, had bleached it once with olaplex at the hairdressers with a balayage effect but i think she rinsed it out to early and im still struggling to get a very pale blond everywhere! :( Have now purchased 40 vol developer and blondor bleach and will add more blond at the crown area (without touching the scalp) but do not have olaplex at hand. Do you think that using the olaplex n 3 will be enough afterwards? as that is what I can buy locally (the salon i go to is selling it) Have nirvel arctic blonds mask to apply afterwards, it gives a very nice silver/purple tinge on my very pale blond parts, but really want to get it all evenly AAA! PS. love your hair! PSS if you ever need an open pharmacy in between hrs (1-4pm) browns pharmacies at Rahal centre, Birkirkara and Pieta are open (mon to sat) and stock 40 vol developer! :) much love x x x

Lissette Rodriguez: Great video with lots of information. I've never heard anyone in a video before mention Fanci Ful:) They sell it in the discount store near my home and it's not that expensive. It's unfortunate it's so expensive for you:( You're hair is beautiful and the color looks fabulous on you. My hair is really dry I need to condition more. THANK YOU for all the information in the description bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sahony Bourdier: Love all the information, I just went blonder with like a grayish undertone and I'm so obsess but this my hair uff so much. & i think most hairs are like that they look so much different wet than dry hehe! But seriously need to try some deep conditioner and a coconut, alo vera mask so needed ! XO thanks for the recommendations <3

ilisten2greenday: I went a light blonde and then lightened it even more. I used T18 from wella and added 050 to it. My hair turned out a pretty silver. I'm in the process of lightening my roots again because they've grown out about 2inches. I use the fanciful but 41 true steel when I want to make it more intense. Unfortunately, I ran out of my purple shampoo so my hair is reverting back to a yellowish color.

Angela Benedetti: Hi just dyed my hair grey and this video is so helpful! I struggle with green sometimes and I found that the lush daddy-o shampoo which is more of a warm-burgundy purple helps a lot! Too bad that it smells like old lady hairspray ahahah! Hugs from Italy!

Future Mrs Box: I always say I love your silver hair! <33

Jaqi G.: You pull off the silver look so well. Your roots coming in just adds a really nice effect.

Martin Voller: Heya! So I've bleached my hair now, and also used a White Toner - my hair was a virgin, dark-dark brown, now it's a very fair blonde (inside of banana!); what part do I do next to get to Silver hair? (I also have Touch of Silver shampoo and Touch of silver conditioner ready!) But how do I transition from Inside-of-Banana, to Silver?

JChrisBB: YEEEES! I've been waiting for this! Thank you :D x
