How To Style My Hair-Requested Video Women Over 60 Grey Hair Care - Beauty Over 60

Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a wonderful day. Today’s video walks you through my hair care routine.

I’d like to take a moment to thank one of my subscribers, Sandy, for requesting this video.

As I hope you all already know, I am delighted to get your requests; and hope I can give you content that is of interest to each of you.

So I am walking you through the steps I take in caring for my hair. I’ve shown you the products that I presently use. I am growing my hair out to it’s natural condition with grey hair coming in. I’ve not colored my hair in over 2 years.

I had previously tried to take this step and gave in to the temptation to color it. As I continued to process my hair with hair color I noticed the damage it was causing.

I finally decided that I would give it another try and I haven’t looked back. I’m quite happy with the results and like the way the grey is coming in. More streaks in the front around my face. Sometimes you can hardly see the grey; but if I were to pull it back you would definitely see how much there is around my face.

I hope you enjoy this video and urge you to ask me for videos that would be of interest to you.

Kindest Regards,

Yvette

Hi everyone it's yvette with polished after 60.. I hope you guys are having a wonderful day. So today is a requested. Video and sandy asked that i do a video on my hair routine and that's what i'll be doing. So i'm i'm going from from when i wash it all the way to when i style it, and this is the styled um the styled look for today. Alright, so, ladies, thank you. I appreciate all your comments, wanda and debbie and brenda, and all of you guys, i just really appreciate it and sandy. Thank you very much for requesting this video guys if you're new to this channel, my channel is all about um topics for the more mature woman. Those of us that are 60 years and older i go through beauty and fashion um, just a little bit of chit chat, just a little bit of everything. So if you think you're interested, please consider subscribing to my channel. Thank you see you real soon and i hope you enjoy the video bye so good morning. Everyone um, i might have already said this in the video - i'm not quite sure how i'm going to format this yet but um. Thank you. Everyone you're in my bathroom as you can see, i'm just out of the shower i'm a little bit red today, so i have to take care of that in a little bit but um this video was requested by sandy. She asked that i do a hair video i've never done this before it's my first try so um. Please try to bear with me. So first of all, i did want to go over some of the items that i use. I wash my hair with lucetta biotin shampoo and i condition it with the luceta conditioner and that's because my hair is thinning. Okay and i found that these products work pretty well, also because i have some silver or white in my hair growing in about every three weeks, i will go ahead and wash my hair with these purple shampoos. You have to be very careful. I use the purple shampoo and the conditioner by art, naturals art naturals, and i ordered these from amazon and that's to brighten, my hair, but it it does have a drying effect on your hair. So you just need to be careful with that um. So i just came out of the shower. I washed my hair. I usually just do i usually wash my hair two to three times a week, no more than that, because my hair is thinning and i tend to lose some hair when i wash it. So i try to be careful with it and i just do one cleanse. I don't double wash it. I do one and i pay particular attention to the the scalp and the roots of the hair, and then you know i i lather really well. I wash really well and then i just bring the foam of the shampoo into my hair and i softly shampoo, the rest of my hair, okay, because um i don't want to damage it right, okay and then the products that i'm going to be using today are The biotin and collagen serum for the hair from lucetta as well, and it's a 10 okay and i just use a very, very small amount, because i don't like to have any uh a lot of product in my hair because it tends to build up. And one thing that i also do that you guys um may do or have heard of it in your younger years is uh. I use distilled vinegar in my hair, so i'm just i put in about a dime size amount of the products in my hair and i work most of it on the ends and any anywhere that i have dry patches in my hair. So that would be the sides of my hair and the ends right, and i just work it in with with my fingers trying not to work too much product into my hair, because then what happens is i have built up? Okay, but anyway i was saying distilled vinegar. I use that about once every three weeks - and i use, i would say one part of uh - of distilled vinegar to three parts of water. So let's say a quarter quarter of a cup of the vinegar with three quarters of a cup of water as a rinse at the end of my shampooing, okay, and then i don't do any other conditioning. I shampoo my hair as normal, and then i put the vinegar and water solution into my hair work it in very well and then i rinse it out and that helps to take away any product that i might have in my hair. But it also is very good at conditioning your hair and it leaves your hair very smooth and silky. So i do that about once every three weeks. Okay, so i don't think i'm going to blow dry my hair on online or on on camera, because i don't know that i would be able to do that. But i use a flat brush and then i use two round brushes and you can see they're quite they're quite large and i that's to build volume in my hair. Okay, because most of all, i want the volume in my hair. So i'm gon na just for a minute turn on my blow dryer and i i'll just go in and start blowing the blow dry. My hair, okay and ladies make sure that whatever product you put into your hair has a heat perfection in it because you don't want to dry or thrive. I should say your hair okay, so i just work my hair in all different directions. Both sides, i work it one way and then i blow dry it the other way. This way until my entire hair has been dry all right, and sometimes i just sorry for the interruption guys all right. So i am just going to finish blow drying my hair and once i've done that i'll come back onto the camera. Now, as the hair gets dryer right, then i'll go in with the round brush and just direct the heat at the root, and i use the cooling button right to cool the hair. All right, okay, i'll, be back in a little bit guys all right guys. So, as you can see, my hair is almost all dry. It does have quite a bit of volume in it um. So once my hair is all the way dry and i'm not i'm not going to show it, but i just wanted to pop in here real quick and show you how it's um, how it's coming and what i do is i take the brush. I brush it under and i use the peel button right all right and i do that all the way around my hair, all the way around my head, and so the hair is completely dry and then what i do is i will go in with a flat Iron and i will flat iron it to give it a more polished, look because my hair, especially in florida when the humidity is high, it tends to frizz up a little bit. So, that's probably what i'm going to do today, so i'm going to get it um completely dry and then i'll be back all right guys, i'm back! As you can see. My hair is mostly dry or is dry. Now i made the mistake of going outside to take my little girls out into the yard, my doggies and it's very humid outside, so my hair went poof, but anyway it's dry and you can see that it has quite a bit of volume. So when i flat iron it when i flat iron, it i'm not going to flat iron the volume out of the roots right i'll, just come in piece by piece and just smooth out just smooth out the hair, just so that it's a little bit less frizzy Right and then ultimately, what i do. I'Ve got my hand in the way. Ultimately, what i do is at the end, once my hair has been flat ironed and it's not you know, the frizz is gone and it's you know nice and polished. Then i go in with the velcro curlers, the big velcro curlers from years gone past, and i put those in my hair because they give me even more volume right. My hair is getting thinner as i age as we all age. Some of us are lucky, or some of you may be lucky and that you may have still your hair as thick it it's always been, but as for me, um, my hair is thinning right and i i lose hair. So when i you know, as i said, i only wash it two or three times a week when i wash it, i take care not to scrub it a lot and when i dry it, i blot it dry right. So i try not to i try not to mess around with it too much, because i don't want. I don't want to lose the little bit that i have. It looks like. I have a lot and i guess i do, but there are parts uh where i can see it's thinning, like this side, usually is thinner than this size. So why you know like many of our male counterparts, do they do the comb over? So i do the comb over. Ladies all right so i'm gon na go in and finish flat ironing the rest of my hair and then i'll come back in a little bit and just show you, the velcro rollers that i use the size that i use for my hair and we'll go from There see in a minute, okay guys, so what i do is, after i pass the flat iron throughout my hair. I will go in and section off my hair in pieces like this, and i will use these velcro rollers that we used to use many years ago and i will put them in my hair, okay and they usually stick pretty good um. Sometimes in the front i will have to um put in a clip or two to make them hold, but they're usually pretty good. I will secure it with um one of these clippers all right and then aft after i do that. I spray it a little bit. Okay, not a lot because the more product that we put into our hair, the more or at least for me, the more limp it becomes. Okay, so that's that's why i kind of limit um. I kind of limit myself to what i put in my hair and, depending upon you know what i'm going to be doing on a certain day. You know i wouldn't this wouldn't be the normal routine. Just after i wash my hair the first time and then um on the days that follow. If i need a little bit of body, then i'll go ahead and put in the curlers or i might um blow dry it a little bit put in some heat protectant and blow dry it. I am not going to do anything with the bottom. I don't think um because it does seem to be okay but i'll, go ahead and put in another roller here at the top. Okay - and i just go through - and i'm not gon na - do anything to the to the rest of the hair just to the top and i'll go ahead and put in a light, uh light um. What is this um? What is this hairspray? Okay - and i just started using this um shea sleek, it's humidity blocking and here in florida year round, we have a lot of humidity guys. So i have to be really careful. Okay, so i will go ahead and let these curlers sit in my hair for a little bit and then i'll pop back in in about 20 minutes or so and show you the look, and you know i did um get some of laura geller products um on My last one of my hauls, so i may go ahead and do a a video with some of those products. After i do my hair. Okay, all right see you in a minute 20 minutes bye, all right guys, so welcome back um. So it's been about 30 minutes um, since i've put the hot rollers or the rollers excuse me into my hair. So it's time to take them out and you're going to see. I don't i don't get a lot of curl. I just get a little bit of volume right. Okay, here you go all right, so you see that's that's what i get when i and i kind of let my hair do its own thing as far as the part goes because um some days, my hair, wants to go this way and some days my hair Wants to go that way, so i kind of just let it do its own thing and i really don't mess around with it much um. The only thing that i do do is i look at the back of course, and make sure that i don't have any holes showing right. So that's that's okay and then i just i just put a little bit of spray to hold it in place right, and i'm not one of these, ladies that messes, with their hair all day long. I just don't. I usually comb it in the morning and i might you know, mess around with it a little bit, maybe once during the day, but i just style it in the morning and then that's it for the rest of the day. Uh. One thing that i did want to mention is that um, i also use dry shampoo on my hair on occasion so, like i said i wash it two or three times a week and during the week um just to freshen it up a little bit. I will spray in some dry shampoo and the one i'm using right now. Excuse me i'm reaching the one i'm using right now is clean freak dry shampoo, not your mother's, not your mother's dry, shampoo, okay, and that's what i use. I i order it through amazon, since we're kind of on semi like lockdown um, and that's that's what i do so. I wasn't quite sure how i was going to end or start this video. So this video was a requested um video by sandy sandy. Thank you. So much for asking for this video and um. I hope you, ladies enjoyed it one other thing that i do, and i i've just started to do this recently is i tie my hair up in a hair tie, one of those um fabric ones, the little stretchy fabric ones at night, and that um helps with Any break breakage in my hair and also it gives me more volume right so in the morning when i take that out after it's been sitting there all day, i'm all night long and it pretty much stays i take it down and when i brush it, i Have a little bit more volume to my hair, i have been cutting my own hair during these times. So that's another thing and i kind of do i think for a haircut soon so anyway, ladies um, thank you so much for spending this sunday morning with me. I appreciate all of you and i will see you real soon - i'm going to be doing a jewelry, um video in a few little minutes. So i'll see you again real soon. Bye have a wonderful day and thank you for spending part of your morning with me. Bye

Brenda Jordan: That was a great suggestion for a hair styling video by Sandy. U have beautiful hair Yvette and it always looks so nice. I am way overdue for a haircut and have been just tying it up in a clip. Thanks for your suggestions of the larger Velcro rollers for volume and the distilled vinegar treatments. My problem has always been getting more volume because my hair has always been thick. It has been thinning out with age so I’m anxious to try some new styles and I’ve always admired yours. Stay as sweet as u r. I think all of us older women r really enjoying your channel.

Dawn Rivera: Fun video Yvette! I’m always looking for ways to get more volume in my hair- so I have to order some Velcro rollers! I too use dry shampoo...not so much to “clean” my hair, as I have dry hair-but I find it adds a lot of volume when I use it. I use R&Co Dry Shampoo. It’s pricey at $32.00, but it smells divine and really gives me extra volume when I need it. You did a great job on this video. Thanks much Yvette!! Hope you enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving!!

Tasha T.: It’s really awesome you know how to style your own hair.. I wish I knew how to style my own hair. I’m 53 and my hair is thinning more and more every year. Love your volume technique.

Sandy NBTX: Thanks so much! My hair is thick, wavy, and 50 shades of brown and gray. I use the velcro rollers but not a flat iron. I live in a humid climate also. I really appreciate this!

Wanda: You have lovely hair Yvette. You are very wise to not dye your hair. I have naturally curly hair and have straightened it my whole life until last December. I have lived in Florida for the last eight years so I did keratin treatments. Finally I stopped a year ago and started to learn how to deal with my natural curls and I am so glad I did. Now there are so many YouTube videos to help us. I also stopped dying my hair 2 years ago and at 56 I don’t have to many grays so I don’t know why I was doing that to begin with! I think as women we sometimes fight our natural beauty when we should just enhance it.

Delia Robeson: Thank you for this video. I use Velcro rollers but need the bigger size. Enjoyed all your suggestions.

Debbi Faust: Yvette, You really do take good care of your hair...just like you care for everything else. I have very thick, short hair. I haven't bee losing any so I guess I am lucky. A few years ago I remembered my grandmother using vinegar on her hair so I started doing it every once in awhile. I use it straight maybe I shouldn't? Have a blessed Sunday, my friend.

Louie Riggs: You should look into fast hair growth shampoo to double hair growth.

jean morton: Can you make a video of how you cut your hair? I love the cut and want to try to cut my own hair.
