Hey guys, I'm back with another video, and today I'm gon na be talking some science heavy stuff, not really we're gon na be talking about glycerin and my favorite glycerin free hair care products. Why? I love them and why you might want to look for glycerin free products. I'M just gon na be doing a kind of brief summary, because there's a lot of really good information on naturally curly calm and over on Instagram. I actually did an Instagram post dedicated to this, so if you need more info, go check it out, but here's the brief summary me personally, my hair is sensitive to glycerin. Not everybody's hair is sensitive to glycerin, don't write it off as a product. It is actually an absolutely fabulous ingredient to have in your hair care products, because it's very moisturizing, but it can be a bit tricky and here's why glycerin is a very efficient humectant. A humectant is something that holds on to water. Well, glycerin is so efficient at picking up water and moving it around that it can really affect your hair. Here'S why? Let'S talk a little bit about dewpoints, don't worry, you'll see what this is going in. A second dewpoints are the temperature at which water will start. Condensating out of the air and forming do it is affected by temperature. It is affected by humidity and it is affected by pressure. Dew point is not humidity, it is not temperature, it is not pressure, it is all those three things combined here is why you care dew points. Are the amount of water that the air can hold at a given time? Here is why you should care, because of glycerin. Here'S where glycerin comes into play. Glycerin is very efficient at moving water around and in very low dew points. If you use ingredients that stay on your hair, it will actually take water from your hair and give it to the air be converted in low dewpoints. There'S not much water in the air. There will actually be more water in your hair than there is in the air. A low dew point range would be anywhere from fifteen degrees fahrenheit to thirty degrees. Fahrenheit dew point is measured in degrees, it doesn't have to be Fahrenheit, it could be Celsius, but I'm in Texas, so I'm gon na be using Fahrenheit for the purposes of this video all right, mid-range dew points are anywhere from 30 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit and in Those dew points there is still gon na be less moisture in the air than is ideal to use glycerin, but some people can actually use glycerin in that dew point range and be fine. The ideal glorious dew points for glycerin, where everything would be in equilibrium, would be from 40 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit. That is when you want to use all the glycerin. That is when glycerin is your best friend. Some of my best hair days ever have been in that dew point range when I've used glycerin heavy products, but those days have been pretty rarely here in Texas, so high dew points. Let me finish up. Let me finish up high dew points are sixty degrees Fahrenheit and over and when you use glycerin in those dew points very very high. Dew points think lots and lots and lots of water in the air. It will actually take water from the air and give it to your hair, and you may be thinking. Oh that's great. It'S gon na moisturize, my hair, it's gon na moisturize it too much and it will create glycerin induced bruise for most people there's actually a really cute term running around on Instagram called glycerin frizz caused by glycerin. I didn't come up with that term. That was actually Kristin I'll, have her Instagram link down below, but Dora pole. I love that term. I actually don't get glitter friends. I don't get big poofy hair from blisterin. If you need a mental image, think Monica from friends playing ping pong like. Oh, that is closer friends like gigantic hair. That actually doesn't happen to my hair. When I use glycerin in my stylers and leave-in products in those dewpoints in really high dewpoints, my hair actually falls flat and very wet. My curl pattern is almost completely dissolved, something I forgot to mention in the ideal: dewpoint range of 40 degrees fahrenheit to 60 degrees, Fahrenheit glycerin will be bringing just the right amount of moisture from the air and giving it to your hair and the really high dew Points is when it brings too much water from the air, because there's a lot of water in the air all right, if that did not make sense in any way, shape, form or fashion, leave a comment down below. I might be able to explain it better because sitting here trying to do it, it all makes sense in my brain, but it may not be making sense in your brain. So let's talk about it in the comments. If you need some more help, um all that being said, glycerin is a wonderful ingredient in your haircare products. Just know that if you are having multiple bad hair days in a row, check your product for glycerin and if there's glycerin in it, you might want to try some of these glycerin free options that I found that work really really well alright. So my first favourite glycerin free product is this shampoo, it's gigantic. It'S actually the Giovanni tea tree triple treat shampoo, and I was lucky enough to find this bad boy at t.j.maxx, for, like seven bucks. My husband loves this stuff. Now just know that this would only be for somebody who's incredibly sensitive to glycerin, I am mildly sensitive to it, meaning that my hair reacts slightly to it. Some people's hair is extremely reactive to glycerin mine isn't so I can use shampoos and conditioners that have glycerin in them and get away with it, because I'm rinsing all of that out of my hair, but I'm going to include glycerin free options for shampoo and conditioner And deep conditioner for those people who might be extremely sensitive, okay, this is lovely. This is a low poo. It contains no sulfates, but it is very, very clarifying, so just know that your hair is gon na squeak and you're gon na be really really really clean, but there's no glycerin in it another one that I don't have to pick up and show you, because I Have run out of it and I haven't repurchase, yet it's the as I am coconut co-wash glycerin free, really nice option for glycerin free cleansing. My favourite glycerin free conditioner would be the Jessie curl Aloha daily conditioner. I not tried their Touche conditioner, but this a Lobo conditioner is really really interesting. It is so lightweight that when you put it in your hair and then do squished again dish like you, squish your hair and really start emulsifying, the conditioner with water and letting your hair absorb the product, it will completely absorb into your hair while you're putting it In and when you rinse it out, nothing comes out because your hair dranked it all up because this is they delicious product. I really love this conditioner. A glycerin free leaving conditioner option that I loved. So much is the curl blueberry blitz leave-in. It does smell like blueberries, but not in a bad blueberry, artificial way, it's like sweet and yummy and delicious. This is a big deal for me to have used this much of it because I use tiny, tiny amounts of leave-in. So I reach are this nearly every wash day. There'S some other really amazing ingredients in here my hair loves protein and there is just a tick of protein in this. So if you need some protein there you go. We can talk more about protein later, but glycerin free leave an option. I really feel like this leave an helps. My clumps form really well. It gives me that slippery slimy seaweed hair that I crave. Don'T you crazy weed, hair nope, just me just get. It actually really helps minimize frizz. When you get that texture in your hair, when you're styling, alright, my favorite, I have two favorite curl enhancers for glycerin free options would be the uncle flunkies daughter, curly, magic, curls, stimulator, there's a lot of aloe in both of these actually and then my other favorite Curl enhancer, this glycerin free would be the kinky curly curling custard. Both of these I've actually tried putting both of these in my hair and not using any gel, and it was too moisturizing for my hair, but some people put these two together and they play well beautifully together. Some people can use this or this as their single styler. I personally can't because neither these have enough hold for me on their own, but the curl enhancement that these provide the shine. The clumped is a definition, 90 % of the time I'm using one of these. On a wash day, 90 % of the time - sometimes I do my extremely quick short and sweet routine when I really needed a hurry, but if I'm wanting like a really glorious hair day, I'll use one of these, I actually use this one today, a glycerin 3, Which we talked about now - I probably should have talked about this. First, some people are applying mousse at the very end of their wash day. I did that today, I like it. It gives volume some people applying mousse, first and curl enhancer this gel anyway I'll put mousse in here I'm trying to go in like wash day order, but oh well, alright, Giovani turbo chart we'll wait. Stop there we go Giovani natural boost err, turbocharged, hair dialing phone. It'S the Moose from Giovanni, it's, not even a cell phone um glycerin free protein free, really love this product. I have used this product as a single styler before when I've done my short and sweet wash day routine, where I just do shampoo conditioner in a foam, and it gives really good shine. It doesn't have as much hold as my other phone, but it also my other pump has glycerin in it. So this is the glycerin free option and it's very good. It'S very good. Apparently I loved you bunny and here's why my natural food store carries Giovanni, and so I bought a bunch of their products because I could like walk into the store and buy them. I live in a very small town and I don't have access to a lot of hair products when I just walk into the store, so I could actually get my hands on Giovanni, so a glycerin free gel option would be Giovanni. I like this gel. I don't tend to reach for it now, because I have found something else that I'm about to show you all that I really like, but there's an issue with the gel that I really like now, okay, anyway, this gel is really really nice. It'S almost a little drying. There are no drying alcohols in here. It is a hundred percent carly-girl approved, but there's something about this formula that will almost dry out my hair, and sometimes I actually really like that, because my hair tends to be over moisturized if you've watched my gelatin treatment. Video, you will have heard me talk about that before, but there's a lot of holes with this product just know that it is a tick drying. Also, it doesn't always give me the most amazing cast ever and some people really really like a cast because it gives their hair more hold. I don't get a strong cast with this, but the hold is decent. The hold is decent, alright, the other gel that I was going to talk to you all about that hasn't issue. Ooh the it's really shiny, okay, haha! Now you can see it. It'S the biosilk, a rock-hard jilly um. I believe that this is the old formula. I need to double check that, but I was picking this up in the store. I was just scanning ingredients and I saw that this one was curly girl approved it had some protein in it and it was glycerin free. So I grabbed it. My goodness guys. This is what I use today, and I've used a lot. It had a mazing whole amazing hold. I always get a cast and I have incredible hold. I love this product. It is a tick heavy when you apply it as much as I did oops, but if you need hold, this has a lot of hold here's where the issue is. I was looking in the store when I picked this up and I read these ingredients on the back of this particular bottle and they were all curly girl approved. I picked up the one behind it just for kicks and giggles. Why? I don't know the packaging was slightly different, and so I looked at it. It had an SD alcohol in it as the alcohol is a drying alcohol, something that you want to avoid if you're trying to do the curly girl method. So, just now that this gives great hydration great cast has protein great hold, but it may not all be curly roll approved, so your best better gel option, that's glycerin free for that. I found that I personally, like is the LA looks. No, it's not le looks it's la natural styling gel by Giovanni the LA looks gels from Walmart, I believe, are glycerin free. You know like the gigantic bottle for like a dollar 97 um, but I find that those really build up on my hair, bad and I just haven't I if those work for you, I'm so glad they do not work for me. If I had to choose between the two I picked this, but if I had to choose between these two, I think all right and the last thing I'm gon na talk about which would kind of go in the super synthetic to glycerin category, which would be the Jessie curl deep treatment: this is a glycerin free hair mask deep treatment that is so good. I actually used it today. I was in a very high dew point and a very humid climate all last week and my hair started to get really over moisturized. So today I actually did a rice water treatment for 30 minutes on my hair rinsed it out completely and applied the Jessie curl deep treatment for 45 minutes. Hmm, oh my good! My hair is so balanced. I have done this all throughout my curly girl journey and I played around with the gelatin treatments and I really like them, because they're quick and easy, like you, just mix it up and apply it to your hair and you're good to go um. But I feel like the gelatin treatments wash out of my hair after several washes and something about doing the rice, water, rinse, and this together is magic. I'Ve actually done a rice, water, rinse and then used a protein heavy conditioner air, deep treatment after it, and it just doesn't work as well. There'S something about rice, water and this together that my hair loves. Let me up, let me let you take a look. I sketched out the crunch like a long time ago, so this is like fully settled slightly. You know lived in hair at this. It'S not my most magical wash day of all time, but it's so much better than it was oh and here's the good thing it like feels so much better. And it's because of that trip. Last week where I was in extremely high dew points and very humid conditions, so there's like lots of water in the air that inspired me to do this. Video because we're in the summer months in high dewpoint territory - and it's really nice to have some glycerin free options in your cabinet, if you're, really struggling with glitz or frizz or your hair falling really limp very quickly. I sure hope this video was helpful to somebody out there. Please subscribe and click the bell and please comment down below if there was something that I didn't necessarily make very clear, I would love to discuss this more with you and let me know what your favorite glycerin free products are. I hope you all are having a great day and I'll see you all in the next one. Bye,

Swavy Curly Courtney: sharon naturally caught that I missed the glycerin in the Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat shampoo. Good catch! Yes, let’s say its low glycerin since it’s not in the top five list of ingredients. Oh man! And darn! I hate when I make a mistake. I double, triple checked all the ingredients before I posted this. Like copy pasted all the ingredients lists for each product into a work document and searched for both spellings of glycerin (glycerine). Shoot! And here is an ingredient list I used to double check myself for the shampoo from the Walgreen's website. Ingredients Aqua (Purified Water), Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Lauryl Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Sodium Lauryl Glucose Carboxylate, Decyl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Panthenol, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, Polysorbate 20, Phenoxyethanol, Menthol, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice (Usda Certified Organic), Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Oil (Usda Certified Organic), Achillea Millefolium Extract (Usda Certified Organic), Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract (Usda Certified Organic), Equisetum Arvense Extract (Usda Certified Organic), Eucalyptus Globulus (Eucalyptus) Oil (Usda Certified Organic), Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Leaf Extract (Usda Certified Organic), Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil (Usda Certified Organic), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract (Usda Certified Organic), Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract (Usda Certified Organic), Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Extract (Usda Certified Organic), Tussilago Farfara (Coltsfoot) Flower Extract (Usda Certified Organic), Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Extract (Usda Certified Organic) This formula of the Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat doesn’t have any glycerin in it. And that is the ONLY ingredient they didn't list. Weird!

CF: Your channel is so encouraging! I just started the CG method a few weeks ago and am trying to stay patient with the results. Right now I’m just figuring out my hair’s porosity/ sensitivity to glycerin / how much moisture vs protein my hair needs. But something I’ve been doing is picking out my favorite curl on my head every day and saying to myself that it is really beautiful! And how cool it is that God made our hair so fun and unique!

Feisty Ginger: Most of the curl talk line by Not your Mothers is Glycerin free, shampoo, 3 in 1 conditioner, mousses, defining cream (the Gel is not) Some of the Not Your Mothers Naturals are glycerin free the Blue Sea Kale Foam Mousses is (Note- the regular Not Your Mothers line is not CG, just the curl talk and Naturals line) Zerran Styling Mousse Camille Rose Curl Maker (I find it to be exactly like Uncle Fuckly Curly Magic) is glycerin free Generic Value Products (Salleys) Has a Matrix Biolage Conditioning Blam comparison that is AMAZING and glycerin free is you get the small bottle for whatever reason the 33 oz is not, and I have been told the Actual Matrix one has glycerin in it sometimes. Pineapple curls by Pacifica (also has a deep conditioner). Kinky Curly has the leave in and curl custard but also a sitting cream and a Mousse. Aussie Instant Freeze gel, The Herbal Essence Spray Gell, and several of their mousses and other gells Maui Heat Shield, The Main Choice Biotin Styling Gel, Most of the Conditioners from Love Beauty Planet Most of the conditioners form ApotheCARE, Cantu's protein conditioner is Glycerin free, Alikay Acavado Repairing Mask, Sashapure Restorative conditioner mask and they defining cream, MopTop Deep Conditioner, Fertilizing Dip from Soultanicals, Curly Hair Solutions Pure Silk Deep Treatment. And for some super cost effective ones, Sauve Essentials Most if not all their conditioners are glycerin free as well as a lot of the VO5 Naturals. Yes, most of the LA Looks gels are glycerin free and at least one of then is Glycerin and protein free, Sofftee has a few gels that are glycerin free one of then is a protein gel. Frizz Be Gone by Giovanni is glycerin free however it has several oils that some people say are not CG So it depends on how CG strict you are and or which CG method you follow. It also has sodium cocoyl glutamate which some people believe is not CG.  Ok, that's all I could think of off the top of my head, its a lot to so I might have overdone it.

Miss Katie: Gosh I thought I was ok with Glycerin because I'm in the UK and it's always cold... I didn't realise it had to be THAT cold for it to be beneficial. Always so much info Thanks as always Courtney ♥️ you're a true hair fairy ‍♂️

Helen: TO ANYONE WATCHING: dont know if this channel have updated this info since I see that this video is a year old but as this is a characteristic of all humectants, the other very strong glycerin-level humectants to look out for in high amounts in products are Propylene Glycol, Sodium PCA, and Sodium Lactate. This is by no means exhaustive though so do your research!

Bettyanne Taylor: I can't tell you how much I appreciate this video. I have just started the CG method and have very dry, bushy, high porosity hair. It may actually be wavy but the jury is out right now since I've used heat products (blow dryer and curling iron) for all my life. Not sure where this journey will take me but I'm going to try. I'm 72, live in North Carolina with lots of humidity so next wash day will be with all glycerin free products to see if it will help. I'm binge watching all your videos and I just love them. Thank you.

Lucky Chonk: I think an easy way to figure this out is simply: how humid is your climate? I'm originally from Indonesia (very humid. tropical country) and now I live in Canada. When I'm in Indonesia, glycerin makes my hair frizzy because its overloading my hair with moisture. I usually fix this with a DIY rice protein mask. In Canada, glycerin is super helpful because its so dry here (but I pair with a little bit of coconut oil as an emollient), and keeps my hair moisturized without being moisture-overloaded.

Mindy Bailey: One of the best things to come out of me doing the curly girl method was glycerin free products in the Texas weather. I get a huge frizz halo with sad waves and gives my hair a tacky feeling. I will certainly revisit glycerin this winter to see what happens.

Savannah Ezell: I use nothing but Cantu and I started looking at the ingredients and the second ingredient in most of them is glycerin! I live in Alabama and it’s always hot and rainy and my hair has been so frizzy and it makes perfect sense now!

Carrie Carroll: I’m new to the curly girl method but I live in Houston so I learned pretty quick what glycerin does to my hair!!! I know it’s not as simple as humidity but since we are so humid down here, I’m avoiding glycerin in styling products and my hair is sooooo much less frizzy!! ❤️❤️❤️

Heather Rosdol: This is why my hair was looking better when I first started than it does now! Everything I’m using has glycerin in it and it’s so humid! Thank you for the explanation!

kathi seal: Wow! Very informative video! Thank you!!! Im just 7 weeks into my curly (im actually a wavy) girl journey. Im finally starting to learn about protein, moisture, and thanks to your video, glycerin. I live in Alabama where the dew point is sooooo high, especially in the summer. Ill definitely be trying some of your suggested products. Thanks again!

Snicklefritzer4: You explained this so well thank you! The whole dew point thing seemed overwhelming so I have just been ignoring it on my curly journey but now I'm thinking I can do this haha

miriamendersby_soprano: I'm British with a very similar curl pattern to you and it always confused me when people talk about low humidity in winter because winters here are pretty much constant rain and high humidity, at least as much as in summer. I've learned to cut back on the humectant because my hair is constantly battling high humidity

Rachael: Helpful to me!! Thank you!! Edit: can I just say that I eliminated glycerin for the first time this morning, and I'm having an amazing hair day! Thank you again!

A Marie Jenkins HisBeloved: Uncle Funky’s gel now has glycerin as the 2nd ingredient. I can use products with glycerin if is vegetable glycerin and not in the 1st 5 ingredients. I love Giovanni products as well. I initially bought them from their website for full price. Now that I found them at Marshall’s and Kroger Food stores for more than half price. Excellent informative video. Thanks

Iva Houdová: Thank you for all the stuff you’re doing, thanks to you I believe I might actually be on the right way to finally understand my hair. You seems like a really nice person, it’s good to have you here. :)

Lisa Keith: Thank you for this video! So informative! When you describe your hair...I can completely relate: Fine, but LOTS of it...my hairs loves protein...goes flat & limp in humidity. I am glad I found a CG with very similar hair type, wave, temperament, etc. Have a blessed day!

Charity Chanut: Hello from Canada! Thank you so much for this video. I discovered the dew point where I live, Calgary, Alberta, is -3 F! Not glycerin friendly. I just started the CGM 2 weeks ago and had dry, frizzy hair. I thought this was part of the process for my hair. However, when I checked the ingredients in the Devacurl products I was using, there was a ton of glycerin. I searched my house for other products and found shampoo with glycerin pretty far down on the ingredients list, glycerin free conditioner (from my teenager's bathroom) and the Devacurl Frizz Free Mouse (glycerin free). I noticed a huge difference after the first wash! Much less frizz!! These will get me by until my Jessicurl arrives! Thanks again for all the great info!!

Christie C: This explains why my hair is a frizzy mess right now. 65% humidity in San Antonio. Thank you Courtney.

Char Latte: The science of this is really fascinating so basically, it depends on the time of year - whether or not you should use a product with glycerin? ALSO, I just left Kroger and found out they have a small bottle of the Triple Treat shampoo for about $5!! Which is amazing, cause I can try it on a small scale before committing to a bigger bottle

Monique Jackson: Hi Courtney, your videos are Fabtastic! I'm in San Antonio, and thinking back I have noticed swelling on hot and humid days, so I'm thinking it would be good for me to switch to glycercin-free products. My question is about dryness. Physically I have a lot of problems with dryness, and I'm wondering if glycerin can dry out my hair in very low dew points? Physically I start to feel terrible when the humidity stays under 40% for a few days, and I was wondering if glycerin might be drying out my hair in low dew points?

Floridameerkat93: CURLS Blueberry Bliss Reparative Leave-In Conditioner may not have glycerin in it, but it isn't humectant-free. Sorbitol is listed halfway down the ingredients list.

Kat G: I wanted to like the Giovanni mousse but it made my hair super frizzy. And I tried it on wet hair, dry hair, by itself, with a gel, and after shampoo and after cowash days! I can't figure out if it's just this mousse or mousse in general that my hair hates

Jaye: I think this might explain what’s going on with my hair... My hair is low density and fine, and gets overloaded with moisture quickly. It’s been incredibly frizzy lately— but hasn’t felt dry. And I live in a humid area with dew points >70

Christy Price: This video was extremely helpful. I just recently bought the all about curls ultra hold gel, but it doesn't give me much hold and I noticed frizz, now I know why. It has glycerin. My curls practically fall out and I couldn't understand why. Also use Cantu products, they contain glycerin as well. Ugh, lol. #thecurlyhairstruggleisreal

Derrick Jennifer Watkins: Hi, I'm Jen. I like Giovanni too and I always wonder why it's almost never talked about when they make some really good affordable stuff! Just found your channel and love it! My hair is SUPER long, thick, heavy and course. 2b and 2c and although it's healthy, I don't have the incredible softness and shine you do. But my type is really strong and must be mostly low porosity as I can't do much protein and it's hard to get products into my hair. I recently discovered Sun Bum and Wow! You have to listen I and choose because some of their products are cg and some arent. They have a curly line with silicone and a regular line without! Their curls and waves styling cream (silicone free) make my hair so silky and pairs well with Mop Top custard. My new favorite combo. Makes my hair almost as shiny as yours ;)

Jen Coughlin: Hi Courtney! Thanks for this video. With helpful as usual. Was wondering if you could do an aloe Vera video. I just found out that my hair is sensitive to aloe would love some info on this and potential aloe free products ❤️

Yana McLaughlin: I've been watching hundreds of cg videos for the past year but after just now finding your channel randomly from your picture on Facebook's bounce curl page I feel like I've finally found someone who's advice I can actually take, haha. Long, low stress, high definition type 2 hair.... that's my goal, seemed pretty impossible but now I think not!!!!

The Creator's Cup: Watching this in CA today! Thinking I need to change my lineup to glycerin free. I've never struggled with Glycerin in Ohio! :( Dew points in LA today are showing as 47. Would glycerin free products help my issue? lol

elham baghestani: it was excellent. Thank you so much. and most of all thank you for giving us numbers, i have read about the effect of glycerin in low and high dew points but i couldn't find what range of dew points were considered as low or high ! but you made it all clear. so.,Thank you :)

ScarpiMusic: This is super informative thank you. I have found through trial and error that both glycerin and aloe vera have the same effect on my hair, that is like yours, they make my hair straight! I will try the sandwich technique you mentioned.

Stephanie: Courtney - The Curls BB has "Glycereth-26", a derivative of glycerin :( ! So unfortunately this one isn't glycerin free either

Dana Cetz: Very helpful, I have had times where my hair was so beautiful and then go out and either frizz ball or falls limp.

Fine Curls: Thank you so much for recommending the curls blue berry bliss leave in it has literally it has literally saved my hair routine ❤ it literally has the perfect moisture and protein balance. Behetromonuim Methosulfate being the first ingredient and further down the ingredients list there's protein.

Angela G: I love Giovanni as well. I use the Smooth as Silk and the Triple Treat Shampoo and Conditioner, the Direct Leave In, the Foam and the Gel. Love, love, love it!

Tina Paegelow: Thank you for this great information! However the GIOVANI TTTT shampoo has glycerin in it. I live in central Florida and we have dew points in the mid 70’s during the summer. I’m desperately trying to find a wash day shampoo that does not have glycerine in it. Any other suggestions?

Viva Pannor-Brown: Hello, I am new to curly girl and I love your videos they are very informative! If you have a moment I have some questions. I have 2c 3a fine and thin hair that gets weighed down. I was using the As I Am Coconut Co wash, my hair looked good, I loved what it did for my bangs (I have to straighten them with a flat iron and usually I get baby hairs that stand up) the body of my hair looked good but felt dry and awful. I read that sometimes coconut acts like a protein and came to the conclusion that my hair does not like protein. Is this true about coconut? Or maybe I need to use conditioner after the co wash? I'm currently using Maui Moisture Lightweight Hydration shampoo and conditioner, I like them but my ends feel dry, I think the shampoo is drying me out because it has C 14-16 Olefin sulfonate and I just read that that is a more clarifying ingredient. I'm wondering if the As I am co wash helped my baby hair halo frizz because its like a protein? I want to try the Giavana Smooth as Silk conditioner you recommended is there a smooth as silk shampoo also? Have you tried it?

Chrystal Thornton: I am the Queen of Frizz. Just started the CG method this month and so far I learned my hair hates protein and now I see that it hates glycerin. Uncle Funky is my favorite curl enhancer and now I understand why. Thanks for the explanation.

n: Thank you for this. My hair's been acting strange lately and I realised all of my stuff has Glycerin in it

Melissa Gilbert: I've been having a really hard time finding a product line to use to clarify my hair that is protein free and glycerin free on a slight budget. Any suggestions?

PR 912: I plan on buying the Jessie’s Curl gel and the deep treatment to take with me on vacation. I think I’ll give the curls blueberry leave In a try as well.

Heather King: I hope you see this even though it’s an older video! Do you use the blueberry bliss leave in together with the uncle Funkys followed then by gel? Just wondering if the uncle funkys is moisturizing enough to stand alone or if you use the leave in as well?

Andrea Castillo: I bought the As I Am cowash and the blueberry leave-in because of you and my hair has looked amazing!

Laura Sinclair: Would you please do a demo on how you use the Kinky Curly Curl Custard? I need to find a glycerin-free regime for the winter (I bought and LOVED the Giovanni products but had an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients - sunflower seed oil. Looking for an alternative.). I'd really appreciate it!!

AMANDA BAER: I just absolutely adore you and how Science-y you get. I'm still learning, but I'll get there. You're my fave curly gal... probably because you're a southern gal and not way up in the snow like others on here, so you know what me and my hair go through, lol. The Florida heat and humidity here kills my hair. I have just realized that glycerin is my enemy thanks to you. I can follow CG to a T, but will friz like I got hit by a stray lightning bolt in 2.2 seconds. I can't wait to try all of this new stuff! Thanks so much for being the cool nerd that has the ability to keep us weirdos interested and looking good!

Josi A: I realized that 6/7 of my styling products have glycerin haha and also the others I was using 2-3 years ago, but my hair is not soooooo frizzy, there are some bad days yes, but it's usually ok. Now it's -2 and around 80% humidity, no problem. The one without glycerin that I have is the "Giovanni Direct Leave In Conditioner", it's for all hair types, but it's so lightweight, somehow with this one my hair can get more frizzy, I fix it with a bit of oil and that's it :). I will try more products without glycerin and see if there's some difference, but I think it does not affect me that much.

Yvonne Tipton: Glycerin is my enemy during the winter months. I really like Mielle Moisture Milk during the winter time

Picnic BearKat: I used Giovani years ago , shampoo and conditioner, and found them to be drying on my hair. I have tried so many products and struggle to find one that doesn't strip my hair, weigh it down and cause build up. I started CG earlier this year and I think my hair is definitely worse off. I have wavy hair that never sets and falls anytime out its touched. So sad.

another prop: So, to simplify.........using glycerin-containing products when it's very humid can cause frizz. How does this factor in when some of us are in air conditioning most of the time? Should we still avoid glycerin during humid seasons? (For me, in FL, humidity is a season- basically, May until November.) Thanks for the info, very helpful.

Raquel S.: My curls are destroyed at high "dew points" too! Though not temperature based, my home town is very wet ( Portland, OR) and the moisture in the air very high. I go to college where it is very dry, and noticed when I go home my hair falls so flat!! Ill have to try a glycerin free routine and see how it goes next time I head home!!

When Bre Gardens: Well this explains why I’m a giant frizzball! We moved to Hawaii 6 months ago and ever since... well... it has been a bunch of absolutely horrible hair days. I just looked at all my products and all but 1 has glycerin, go figure. Thanks so much for making this video. One question though, do you have a recommendation for a deep conditioner without glycerin? (Mine has glycerin in it)

Jesse Smith: Great video, very helpful! Do you use the Curly Magic (or Kinky styling gel) before applying gel to your hair? Thanks!

Patricia THOMAS: Our dew point is 6 degrees F. I live in Montana and we have very low dew points. I am not sure what products to use. Since I have started cgm I have tons of frizz and breakage. I have 2a 2c curls. Very fine hair, not thick at all. But with cgm my hair looks thicker when I first started. Now since winter has arrived it has been a nightmare! HELP! I have purchased tons of product, most from your recommendations. So any suggestions you have I probably have the products already. I am getting a cut next month, not a trim but a cut. The back of my hair is so broken I have to get at least 4” off. It’s only hair hopefully it will grow back healthy.

Shaye Eller: I’ve heard of “glycerin sensitivity” and sought to avoid it at times - but then realized it was in all the products that worked the best for me. I decided that it must just be that my hair loves glycerin, like some people are more sensitive to protein than others. BUTTTTTT I live in Portland, OR where the dew point is rarely below 40 or above 60. It also explains why sometimes I have really bad hair days when I go on vacation. Thanks for this information!!!

Amanda: You are a lovely person. I really enjoy your videos! Thank you for the great reviews and advice. Your hair is GORGEOUS!!!

Brittany Underhill: Hi! Thanks for the video! Any recommendations on a drugstore/easy to get glycerin-free deep conditioner/hair mask?

Samantha Cromer: Love this glycerin free product recommendation video. I have seen many many products that contain glycerin.

Emma Gavars: I bought like 3 of these products already thanks Courtney!

thatgirlstephh: Would love to see a video all about products without any protein!!!

Aria Schank: I'm curious on your thoughts on shea moisture's coconut and hibiscus shampoo and conditioner since it has silk proteins.

Casey Kay: This was so helpful!! I love the science details!

Amoura Latif: Another great video! ! Do you pair something else with the KCCC for hold? same question for UFDMC? oh and what protein is in the Biosilk??? thanks so much!

Tasha Lafortune: does glycerin matter so much in shampoo and conditioners as they wash out?

Stacy Drummond: Hello, I’ve gone glycerin free down here in humid florida but noticed the blueberry bliss leave in is listed as containing glycerin per curlscan. This ingredient caprylyl glycol it states. Any input in this ingredient? Thanks!

Misha Berman: Omg that explains so much. I did not know glycerin was a thing until watching this. I notice when I went to Israel in the summer. I used Devacurl, which has glycerin in it my hair was so dry as soon as I stepped outside it was like all the moisture was stripped from my hair. I try to go to Israel a lot, I should watch out for glycerin when I am there!

Buttercup: NYC, right now 44F dew points, my hair, great, no frizz. I didn't know about the glycerine effect and my whole life suffering of frizzing. I just saw my products and all them have glycerine, planning to buy Shea moisture bamboo and charcoal shampoo without glycerine, I have the intuition it will work better that the Giovanni, I think Giovanni could be harsher for my type of hair. Has someone tried Shea Moisture bamboo charcoal shampoo?

Amber Guffey: I’m new to finding CGM products, so I’m learning. I noticed Blueberry Bliss has an ingredient, Glycereth-26. Is that a form of glycerin?

Shrutika Talikoti: Very useful information. I never cared to look further than sulphates and silicones. Been struggling with halo frizz, trying everything I can do to understand whats going wrong. I went back now and checked the labels and guess what? I have glycerin in my conditioner, leave in AND gel! Duh! Icing on the cake- checked dew point for my area and it turns out 70°F thanks a ton babe, this video is an eye opener...

Leah McCool: I know I'm commenting on an old video but question: if I have protein overload and the dew point is over 60 degrees would it be beneficial to use glycerine to add more moisture to my hair?

Brielle Young: I’m so glad I found this video. I love it!! So helpful.

PR 912: Great video!! Just in time for the summer. Thank you .

Joslyn Meixell: Is JessiCurl DC more of a protein treatment since you use it with the rice water or is it more moisturizing?

Matt Maxwell: Thought that this video was a recent one, and I literally thought “THATS AN AMAZING HAIR DAY WHAT?!” through her recent pregnancy her curl pattern has changed a lot so I was muy confused but then I saw it was made 2 yrs ago

Julie G: I love Jessicurl Spiralicious gel. Specifically the citrus lavender. Have you tried it?

Louise Allen: Thank you so much. You explained it all brilliantly.

Jennifer W: How do I know what our few point is? I'm in Toronto, Canada and we can have very humid summers. But I've been using two Curl Keeper products with glycerin in them and I haven't been able to style my wavy/curly hair since I started and it's only spring. It won't hold a curl and it feels limp. I also have hard water but have been using a filter and Ion hard water shampoo but still can't style it properly. Could it be the glycerin not working for my hair? Help. Lol

Sarah Jane Bingham: I know this is almost a year old..but what happens when it is really cold outside? Dew point here in Utah during the winter is 25 F. And we are so very, very dry cold, bitter air. Does the glycerin take moisture out of my hair and put it in the air?! This information will potentially chance my hair life. Holy moly.

Laura Cox: Can any tell me how far down glycerin should be so that it doesn't mess with my hair in non ideal dew points? Some the products I have (and her faves) have glycerin listed as number 3 (re coil) and some others are pretty far down. And some masks I have glycerin is like 3rd-10th ingredient.

J H: This all makes a lot of sense. But then again, I’m an aspiring scientist and know way more about chemistry than I’d like to admit.

Raquel Cadena: Aaah... that’s why my hair was terrible these days in freaking humid PA... my conditioner is packed with glycerin... lol ‍♀️

Christy Burke: Thank You so very much for sharing. I live in Mobile , Alabama area. Almost always high humidity.

Brittany Love: My hair texture is very different from yours, but I THOROUGHLY enjoyed learning this information. Thank you!

Andrea Greene: I have a mild allergy to glycerin and be searching for products for natural hair. Thanks for your video.

Kat: is glycerin okay in conditioner? thanks for the video! :)

Emily Veloz: Me: my hair hasn’t looked too hot lately, let me look at my product ingredients GLYCERIN CENTRAL okay wow, let me check the dew point here 14°F

undercover23: you explained this very well!! first time i understand lol

Sagarika Maitra: You know it sucks for me because where I live 60F is the lowest it goes in cold winters. It's always at around 95F here specially in the summers. :( I wish I had glycerin free stuff but you can't get them here for reasonable prices. Are there any other things I can be doing to minimise frizz or get rid of limpness?

Robin Williams: Can you recommend a humectant and protein free deep conditioner

kevin motley: What is your recommendation for DEEP Conditioners ??

pale star 8: Uncle funkys daughter curl stimulator says on the link that you provided that the second ingredient is Glycerin so if that is correct then it has glycerin in it. I know some sites can be incorrect though, but I clicked the link that you gave in the description box for this product and that's what it said so just letting others know. I didn't Google the ingredients myself though to check if the Amazon ingredients are correct so if you are one who is interested in this product, you may want to do further research!!

Autobot Diva: i know this is an older video but i gotta have glycerin for the winter! always looking for products, some new, some old

pale star 8: Love this video and learning from you... however, the music in the background is a little bit distracting. Don't get me wrong, I like it. I just wish it wasn't so loud.

Yee Yee: Can you please review the curl talk defining cream from not your mothers

Elicia Chin: is ethylhexylglycerin the same as glycerin???

Dori Killeen: I have so much frizz today!!! High dew points :( My hair doesn't puff out like Monica's but I get a halo from the frizz.

Illy Canary: Please tell us the good/bad formulas for the Biosilk Rockhard Gelee.

Bali Body Club: Wow! I love this video!!! Thank you so much! Do you think if I’m living in Bali, which is pretty hot most of the time and its a subtropical climate, its gonna be too much of water in my hair?

Sara Vasquez: i use eden bodyworks shea curling cream & it has glycerin andd it works great for me during summer but its not one of the primary ingredients so i can see why my hair is not frizzy but i also use xtreme hair gel when i scrunch & it has glycerin as the 2nd ingredient & it works great ! why is that ?

Alli Costello: Is Caprylyl Glycol a glycerin? It is in the Blueberry Biss Leave In
