What'S up everybody, it's your main girl Mel Meyer has been washed in his condition. It has been styled, and now I am faced with the eternal question to air dry or to diffuse. How do you know which drying method is what to be best for you or have you completely boycotted drying your hair with a diffuser, because you never seem to get it right? Why you always do I don't want to see there's a right or wrong way to use a blow dryer, but there is a right or a wrong way to use the blow dryer. So in this video, I'm gon na show you both the right way to use your diffuser and the wrong way and if you're using it the wrong way, you need to stop. No, no I'm done I've got and make sure you take note of everything that I'm doing to get perfect diffusing results. Now, before you defuse take a look at your hair, when you are looking at your curls in their wet state after being styled, do you see random frizz if this is the case, take some water and some more product and smooth it over those areas? Okay, the first thing you're gon na need is your diffuser, so you guys are going to be seeing me use my Dyson diffuser, which I love, and I get a lot of questions asking if using a Dyson is going to give you better results than using another Blow dryer, or what have you now? Let me make this clear as long as you're, following the steps in this video, it doesn't matter what blow-dryer you're using you will get good results. So as long as you're seeing holes in your diffuser - and I also like these prongs - it's a little teeth that stick out you'll, be able to use the diffuser to enhance your curls okay. So now we're going to start diffusing it's funny, because people mess up their defusing process the moment they start. I have seen it all over Instagram and all over YouTube and tutorials people start diffusing on their ends. When you do this, you are one disturbing the curl pattern on your ends, too, you have not allowed your curls to set three. You are encouraging a lot of shrinkage, maybe too much shrinkage and for your drying o your ends way faster than your roots and by the end of your diffuse, your roots are going to be very frizzy and wet, so I'm gon na need you to stop that And as a rule of thumb, you'll always remember this leave the end to the end. Okay and you'll see what I mean, because this is how I like to start, I'm going to turn on the blow dryer. I usually use high and high-speed. Now that I'm upside down, I am hovering over my root area, all around my scalp in my head, I'm not actually touching the curls, I'm simply hovering around, so that I'm almost speeding up the air dry process. What I mean by that is, you are getting second head heat and air from your blow-dryer without actually disturbing the curl. I will not be touching the curl until I have noticed that there has been a shell and a cast that has formed around it, which means that my hair is beginning to set and it will be much less likely to frizz. Only then will I work. My hair, but first you will see - I am continuing along my root area, all around hovering around that I may even start to judge the root area a little bit with the blow dryer. This will just help me get a little bit more volume in the roots, but be aware that this could cause some separation in your roots. The next thing people are doing wrong is they are staying upside down the whole time now there is a benefit to drying. Your hair upside down, partially it can definitely aid with getting more volume. But if you dry your whole head upside down the whole time, then your roots are only going to want to sit like that and when you flip up and you look at your hair, you may be looking a little bit crazy for the most amount of movement And volume in your roots, I like to keep the roots mobile by switching up my head position, gently moving around the curls and just making sure that my roots are moving around and not staying in one static position. Another miss thing I'm seeing is that people are using their filthy hands in their hair, while they are diffusing that doesn't mean that your hands are dirty. I'M just saying that you should not be touching your hair while it is drying because the moisture - that's in your hair, that cream that nourishment those styling products that you put in your hair to hold those curls will cling to your hands and it'll start to separate The curls and disturb their natural curl formation, the more you touch your hair with and while it is draining the more frizz you're going to get so. My hands will continue to mind their own business and just hover around my head and not touch my curls until much much later. What I love about this motion of hovering around is that it's almost like air drying in the sense that it is so low manipulation. You are really not affecting your curl pattern because you're not scrunching you're, not forcing you to do anything except dry, a little bit faster. This will give you a really natural result and you can really do this all the way until you are done diffusing. But if I feel my hair all, I can feel a good little cast going on and I am going to start scrunching. This can be done if you want to encourage that shrinkage and a little bit more of a curl formation, but you can totally skip this step if you want a more elongated style and look again, this is all possible because I have styled my hair with a Holding agent, something that is going to make sure that my curls stay in their form and not separate and Custis and see. Now my hair is just about almost dry, I'm even starting to scrunch out that cast with my hands, because now that it is almost dry and the moisture has left my hair, all its gon na do is help to break that cast and help to fluff out The curl for the extra volume that I desire - alright, everybody - that is it - those are the steps you got to take in order to get really beautiful and fun curly hair style. I challenge all of you to try out these tips the next time it's washday and you've got to diffuse your hair. So you don't continue looking like this, I should have just save a dry and, like always, let's end off this video with our positive comments of the week. This is from Brenda del Carmen. You are amazing, and I hope to see you soon and Jackie Starr is asking our question of the week, which is very fitting to today's video. Her question is, I heard it's better to diffuse, cold or pool so it locks in. Let me break that myth right here today. If you take a drop of your product - and you put it on your counter and you let that dry overnight, what is going to be left, it may shrink in size, but the water will evaporate and your product, which is your cream and the moisture, will still Be left on your counter when you're diffusing your hair with heat, it's going to help moisture evaporate faster, but the only moisture is going to evaporate is the water, whereas you will still be left with your cream and your nourishment your softness and your shine. I hope that answers your question. I hope you guys learned something today. Thank you for hanging out with me and until next time. Next Tuesday, this means bye melt out. Are we ready what is happening? There are many benefits of diffusing and, in my case, as my hair continues to get longer thanks for noticing. Yes, it's kind of like this. Would you want to be woken up while you're trying to fall asleep? No, so don't try to fluff your hair while it is dry and you will only be left with voluminous and defined curls

Ra Gi Mu: THANK YOU Mell for educating curlyfriends how to get the best of their curls! I've FINALLY perfected my routine (after 4 years of failing) by watching your videos and I can now honestly say I prefer my naturally curly hair to straightened, I'm forever grateful to you. Love you and your humor (and your seester + dynamic between you) stay real to yourself ❤️

Ariana Dourre: I feel like if I don't do it right she's gonna fight me.

Azzurra: -hover the hair dryer on the roots until you notice it's begging to set -zhoosh the root area -switch the head position around -scrunch more or less depending on the shrinkage you want Don't stay upside down the whole time Don't touch your hair with your hands

Sylena: -Leave the ends for the end -Hover over root area, don’t touch the curls to speed up the air dry process. -Put the diffuser on your roots a little once it starts drying to give more volume -Don’t dry your hair upside down the entire time. Switch it up! -Don’t touch your hair while you’re drying to prevent frizz. -Once you feel a cast start crunching and fluff out curls You’re welcome

Allison Gaither: This girl........I swear she saves lives. I’ve struggled with my curly hair for 20+ years. 20 YEARS IN AZKABAN! Where has she been all my life ❤️

TrinityLol: 1. Check for frizzy areas, put product on them 2. Hover diffuser around your scalp and curls 3. Switch head position 4. Don't use hands 5. Once cast forms, scrunch for volume.

Ivana Garcia: Life changing! The hovering technique and not starting at the ends literally changed how my hair looks. Best advice ever. Thanks girl

Imanime5: From one girl Mel to the other girl Mell, thank you! I've been natural for just over eight years, and every time I've tried to diffuse has been an epic fail. I had given up, but after seeing this video I now have the courage to give it another go! I love your presentation and especially your humor. And yes, everything that you said NOT to do, I had been doing. Each time, by the time I had finished, I looked like hungry squirrels had been chewing on my hair! I'm ready to put the squirrels out to pasture and pick up that diffuser again!

Loops SaaCia: I’m literally a whole hairstylist out here watching these videos because I recently started getting a lot of curly haired clients and I don’t know how to defuse the hair. Most of my curly clients have asked me to blow dry their hair straight instead of defusing it

Amy Mills: Well I can't say thank you enough for this. I've been attempting to diffuse my hair for probably going on 10 years now. Sycamore Valley: I appreciate this video. I'm just starting to wear my hair curly, I'm either a 2C with a lot of 3A mixed in, or 3A. Anyway, my hair is quite low porosity and takes a LONG time to dry. It takes a ton of time to diffuse too, and I was ending up with dry ends and wet roots, after following some tutorials. This is exactly what I needed to see. I let mine set up in a plop first though, so the gel cast is already setting before I start blow-drying. I will definitely use a lot of things I learned in this video. Thanks, youtube recs.

Amanda L.: Thank you so much for this brutal lesson I use to hate diffusing because it always looked horrible, and I didn't know why, since I followed so many tutorials.. I'm following you immediately

Sydney Rodriguez: GIRL. I literally just diffused my hair and I’m like what the hell did I do wrong. You were the first video to pop up. And I’m like oh. Yeup. I did everything wrong I WILL SUCCEED. Kayla Hebert: OMG! I have been binging your videos like CRAZY the past few days because I’m trying to get my natural waves/curls back and poppin’ again because, quite frankly, I’m just sick of trying to straighten it and use heat in it all the time. I miss my natural hair just flowing free. My husband has even said he prefers when I leave it natural! But I don’t always have time to let it air dry. I just went and bought a hot tools blow dryer with a diffuser and I’m trying to learn how to use it properly! I’m SO GLAD I found your channel! Bless your heart!!! ❤️

shpooga: Thank you, Mel!! I finally bought a diffuser because I saw how easy you made it seem in this video. That shit works! I have the bounciest curls in the land and I am so freaking happy!

I APPRECIATE YOU ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Nikki Wood: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! After watching this video and drying my hair this way it looks so much better than when I would try to scrunch it in the diffuser like I had seen others doing. My hair would look frizzy and messy and now I have some beautiful waves going on.

C G: Your hair is so beautiful! My hair has changed from straight to curly & I’m trying to learn to not have a frizzy mess without the flat iron. Thank you for helping!

PrincessUponAThrone: GOD, THANK YOU! I was already on the verge of despair because my hair never wanted the way I did. Now I have wonderful curls thanks to you. I love you for that ❤️

For years I straightened because It was the only way I felt good about my hair, thanks to you I now feel proud of my waves and curls and even get compliments all the time. You and your seester are highly appreciated ❤️ love from Italy

Ceri: So I have only recently started diffusing this way and I have to say - this is the ONLY WAY that works for me. Diffusing has never really worked for me and I'm not very patient and now this method actually guarantees I'll have a frizz-free day! Thank you so much for this, I've been trying to actively work with my curls for six years now - a lot of research went into it already. One question though: do you have any tips on how to fight the frizz straight on the top of my hair? It's gotten a lot better by following your methods of finger coiling, applying product and diffusing but there's still that one bit right on the top of my head that always frizzes. :( It ís the drier part of my hair, so I may just need to be patient somehow, but it is likely that you know more than I do about hair. ;)

Gabrielle Metcalfe: I tried it and it works!!!!!! I thought I would never have frizz-free hair but thanks to Mell I do. Thank you Mell and to all my curly and wavy girls you need to try this

V Ashley: I went my natural curl this year and have learned so much from you. Thank you for helping my natural hair be the best that it can be!

Martinique Blumeninsel: Dear Mell! You are the first and only hair channel in general and curly in particular. I love feeling styled and sexy but I hate spending too much time with it. You are a so great in your way of celebrating beauty that I had no chance but to follow you! Thank you for your gift to this world and to my curly routine which started just some weeks ago
