What does your curly hair care routine look like? That was by far the most asked question when i asked you guys on instagram what kind of girly videos i should make hi in case we haven't met, my name is ivana and i've been living in india. Now, for three years during those three years, my hair care routine changed dramatically, which also dramatically increased the quality of my curly hair. In this video, i am sharing all my curly hair secrets and the basics of my hair care routine in four steps. Step number one is the brushing of your hair step. Number two is the washing after wash hair care, routine and step. Number four is maintenance without further ado, let's get into step number one brushing. It took me 30 plus years to learn that you should never ever ever brush curly hair when it's dry. My best friend nadine tried to tell me this for many many years because she only brushed her hair under the shower with a lot of conditioner. Now i didn't listen to her, so i would always brush my hair right before i would go to wash it because that would be a lot easier. What i saw when i did that was a lot of broken off pieces of hair on the ground, but i thought that was normal. It'S not what i finally learned after all these years is that curly hair tends to get extremely dry and hence quite brittle. If you would call it like that, so if you brush it dry, not only will you get that huge, monika effect hair, which is very, very fluffy, but your hair will also be very prone to breakage. Ever since i learned about this, i stopped brushing my hair when it's dry and the breakage has gone dramatically down up to a point where i almost don't see any broken hair pieces in my sink. When i brush my hair, however, there is a trick, and that is quite a big secret for curly hair. You should never brush it without a lubricant, i tried brushing my hair with a conditioner under the shower. However, here in india i have limited hot water because we use a boiler, so i decided to search for other solutions and i found an absolutely brilliant local solution, which is oiling your hair, something that indian women have known for the longest of time and that not Only helps to prevent breakage of your hair, but it actually also promotes growth of your hair. I started oiling my hair with coconut oil once a week and i absolutely love it because it feels so luxurious and pampering for my hair. However, i do not like to use the cold pressed coconut oil, because i feel it tends to make my hair a lot more oily than the processed products. I don't know why. Maybe my hair is weird. This is also the only moment in the week where i will brush my hair the rest of the week. My hair will not be touched with any kind of comb or brush. I use a regular comb to brush my hair and i am very, very very careful when i'm brushing my ends, because, even though i'm using a lubricant, i am now very, very aware of how prone to breakage curly hair is. The second step is the washing of my hair, and i have some hair care secrets here to share with you too, that i learned over the past three years. I have to say, because that's when i got obsessed with curly hair care routines, you might be wondering if you only brush your hair once a week and only oil it once a week. Do you also wash your hair once a week? And the answer to that is: yes, let me explain: curly hair tends to be very, very dry by nature. I grew up in the netherlands, where most girls have straight blonde, quite thin hair. So all hair care commercials were always talking about how your hair gets oily. Really fast and how you should always wash your hair at least every other day, if not every day, don't get me wrong. I'M not saying that this should not be the hair care routine. If you have straight blonde hair, that gets oily very fast, but this is not the case with curly hair at all the oilier, your hair gets the more, it actually falls into place and the healthier it gets. So the second thing that i learned, after only brushing my hair once a week, is to only switch to washing my hair once a week that too, with a very special mild shampoo, so no sulfates, no harsh chemicals. I really really love this maui aloe vera based shampoo. It is so mild, it smells so good, but i still won't use it undiluted on my hair, and that is also one of those secrets that i want to share with you. Shampoo in general is quite concentrated, and even if you're, using a mild shampoo on your curly hair, it still might dry your hair out in order to prevent drying my hair and making sure that the shampoo only cleanses my hair of the dirt and not of any Essential oils - i will also dilute my shampoo, so i will take a little bit of shampoo, then put in some water dilute that and then start washing my hair with that i usually wash my hair in three sessions, so i will use one third of the diluted. Shampoo and then i will go in again and then i will go in again, while washing, i will only focus on washing my roots and then, when i'm rinsing my hair. The rinsing shampoo will also rinse the ends and cleanse them one. Other hair secret, particularly for dry curly hair, is to never ever ever use conditioner. Only on the ends of your hair, curly hair tends to be super super super dry. So, in contrast to those beautiful straight haired girls, us beautiful curly, girls also need to put conditioner in our roots. Trust me, your curly hair really needs all the moisture and tlc that it can get. So i will also go in with the conditioner in my roots and just condition all my hair leave it in for about five minutes and then rinse it all out. I know there are a lot of curly girls who only do a half rinse, which is like a quick rinse and then leave in the rest of the conditioner. But i've noticed that my hair does not really like that. So i will rinse everything out. The third step of my hair care routine, is only natural drying. I cannot remember the last time that i used heat on my curly hair. I think it was definitely over three years ago, because it's one of the first things that you learn once you start digging into curly girl, hair, routines heat is an absolute no-no, so no blow-drying, no straightening irons. That is so so so bad for curly, hair and also no curling irons. What i do is i let my hair dry naturally, which takes quite a long time, because my hair is very long as you can see. If i stretch it out, it will definitely come up to my hips. The reason why it's so long is because i am so careful with my hair and not use any heat at all. It might take a couple of hours for my hair to dry. So usually i will wash my hair on sunday, then let it dry naturally after it has dried. I will put in a little bit of diluted, non-drying, hair gel up here in the in the roots and also a little bit throughout my hair, and then i will wrap my hair. I have filmed a whole separate, ig tv video, on how i wrap my hair. So if you would like to see that please head over to my instagram and you will find it there, i will also put a cotton towel on top of it. I know a silk case is better, but i still haven't managed to find a good one. So if you guys can recommend me anything on amazon, india, let me know down in the comments below, and this is how i will sleep the next day i will unwrap my hair, which already will give me the curls that you can see right now. I know my hair is a little bit flat now, but it is day one curls and that's always a little bit flatter. But tomorrow i will have a lot more poofy, hair and, as the week progresses, my hair will get more and more curly and more and more poofy, which brings me to step number four: the maintenance during the rest of the week. The only thing that i do for my hairs, maintenance is just wrap it at the end of the day, go to sleep with that cotton towel on top to keep everything in place and the next day unwrap it. If my hair is looking a little bit dry, especially the ends i will put in this magical magical oil - that i'm a huge fan of it is castor oil. I know a lot of people tend to think that castor oil is quite sticky, but i actually like that if you have ever used any kind of polishing lotion on your hair, you know that they're all sticky. So for me it doesn't matter that much especially because it gets absorbed by my hair or it evaporates. I don't know what happens anyways. It leaves my hair quite shiny and nourished. That is all i will do for the rest of the week. Obviously, my hair will get oilier by the day but, like i said in the beginning, for curly hair, this is actually good. Your curls will start to look more shiny and more defined the further you develop the hair during the week with the maintenance. Ever since i started doing this hair care routine, i've been getting more and more compliments on my hair, and usually i will get the most compliments on the day before i have to wash my hair, because that's why my hair is all curly and poofy and shiny. I have to say it's a lot more shiny than before, because this is all my natural hair and i tend to be very, very careful with it, as you may have noticed throughout my explanation of this whole hair care routine. Whenever my hair tends to become flat like this, i will just rough it up a little bit in the roots. You can also put in some dry shampoo, but i don't necessarily think it's it's needed. I think this is okay. Also, like i mentioned this is my day, one hair, so it tends to be the flattest on day, one the day after i have washed it. If you have curly hair - and you always wondered what is the best way to take care of it, i would say: try these steps and see how they work for you also, if you have been struggling with a lot of hair breakage, maybe also try some of These steps to preserve your hair, more some of you also might have questions about. When i cut my hair and i tend to do a self trim once a year - i have done it this year in march, so i still have quite some time to go in the meantime. If i do see some split ends, i will just cut them off myself, but i don't have that many anymore. I have to say ever since i stopped using heat on my hair, i tend to get very very little split ends. I really hope this video helps. You if it does make sure to put a thumbs up also, if you would like to see more of my videos, make sure to subscribe to my channel and then i will see you next time. Thank you so much for watching bye,

originalmix: 7:23 wow girl, you look like completely different person there...all natural, no bronzer, no contour, no blush, just natural clean face ...look, I don't want to offend you by saying this because some people might take it in the wrong way but I really just wanna say this, as I have noticed through out your other videos too - it compliments your overal look just so much more when you use minimal "colors" for your face and moderate bronzer..you look more young and fresh that way..plus it also makes more harmony with your body/skin color.

Ehm Ha: Fellow curly hair girl here‍♀️ I was wondering about it already. We texted on IG but stopped using it so I thought I wouldnt see the actual results this is gold I'll defienetly try brushing my hair with the conditioner in it. I use simple olive oil and a solid shampoo bar.
