How To Professionally Tone Hair At Home

In this video I want to show you how to professionally tone your blonde or brunette hair at home using products available at Sallys or other places to people without a cosmetology license but still achieve salon quality results. Heres a run down of the formulas I talk about in the video:

For levels 8 and lower use the 7A wella color charm Demi-perm to tone out orange tones

For bright blonde hair with yellow tones tone with 10NA wella color charm demi-perm to bash any brass.

Always mix with activating lotion in the right ration, 1 part color cream and 2 parts activating lotion.

May you have beautifully toned hair non matter what your level!

Hey guys welcome back to my channel and in today's video I'm going to show you how to tone your hair professionally at home, so I am blonde specialist. So what are the biggest questions for blondes is how to keep blonde brass free, so toners are actually really really simple, but it's probably one of the most crucial thing that you do in a blonde appointment: the bleaching. Obviously your lightening the hair you're, removing pigment you're. Removing existing pigment from your hair and there's definitely a big science to that, but it's the finish and the polish you put on that lift that really makes blond, hair beautiful and look amazing. I'Ve definitely done a video like this years ago on my channel in this old video. What I was looking for was a toner that was accessible to everyone, that you can just put on your hair and remove that brass, and I found this t11 and t18 honestly. This was my own combination, just because I felt one was gon na be too ashy. One was gon na be too sandy, so I combined the two. It also says to mix with 20 volume, so for my hair at the time, because it was mainly all blonde. I didn't have a lot of root or a lot of like a base, color kind of showing through. So this worked great on my hair and if I had a root, it would be like this big, which it would just lift it a little bit which, for me, worked great. That video has probably a 75 % success rate, which is amazing, and a lot of people will say that those two colors are almost always sold out. I'M not saying that that's because of me, but I had never seen it combined, but the other 25 % is people that are putting it on their hair that have a lot more root or that have kind of low lights or another color other than blonde. And so because it is mixed with 20 volume, it ends up lifting your hair, a lot and leaving that brown hair really orange, so really toning out the blonde, but in the other kind of hair colors mixed in it actually makes it brassier. So I totally understood that this was a problem, so since then I've definitely been looking for something that still available to the public. You don't have to be a licensed cosmetologist, but something that really tones your hair as well and honestly. I'Ve tried so many things. Obviously, professionally in the salon, I use red khun's a shade EQ. In my opinion, I honestly think these are the best toners ever, but I understand that this isn't available to the public, so I wanted something that was going to give you as close of a salon. Quality toner, so after so many trials of failed toners, I finally have found something that is as close to what I use in the salon and that is to tone your hair with the Wella color charm demi-permanent, hair color. So I actually bought these two to specify the difference, so the white box for color term is actually permanent, hair color. So this is meant to be mixed with 20 30 or 40 volume, and this will both lift your hair and then deposit, the color. So that's how a permanent hair color works now demi-permanent is different and that it mainly just deposits color, so it almost kind of just stains the outside of the hair and doesn't really penetrate and actually change the color from the inside, and for that you have to Mix with the well of color charm, activating lotion, and so what that does is. This is not a developer, so it's not going to lift your hair. It'S really just activating this product, so that's very important. Don'T ever mix a demi-permanent with a regular developer and don't mix a permanent hair color with an activating lotion. So if you see that kind of like the blue shade on the bottle, that's just if you can think about those two colors. That'S all you need to think about, and this demi-permanent hair color obviously comes in array of levels and tones. So the easiest way is this blue band here. This means that it is cool tone, so very ashy. So what I have here is a seven ash, so if your blond is somewhere around what my blonde is, you would want the ten ash and I'll insert a picture here. So this seven ash is beautiful for that kind of caramel balayage. That just looks way too. Gold, putting the seven ash over it will just make the hair absolutely just beautifully toned. It will just balance out the color so beautifully and really look. You know like a high-end color that was professionally done at a salon, and so the way you mix these two is anytime. You see this like little ratio, it says one to two, sometimes as one to one. So that means that you do one part of the semi-permanent and two parts of the activating lotion and I like to mix this in a bowl that color to is cream formula. So it's just a lot easier to mix in a bowl and it makes it a lot easier for applying to the hair, especially if you have two colors now the beauty of this one versus my old toning video is that this, even if I put this over My dark roots, it's not going to affect the roots one bit so, like I said for my hair toning blonde, I would use a ten ash so to determine which level you need for your hair. You always tone to the lightest piece in your hair. So obviously, if this is the lightest piece of my hair, this is about a level 10 or 11. So I would get AG level 10 ash to tone that out so with so many of my viewers, obviously doing at home, hair color, and not only that. But a lot of my viewers are either people that are blonde or looking to be blonde. So I figured that this video is really just so important and I really hope that this has made. You understand the process a little bit more has helped. You understand the levels a little bit better and eventually get you your dream, a hair, color, alright guys. So once again, thank you for joining me on here. Thank you for your ongoing support and love. You did like this video found it helpful. Please give this video a like, also share this video with anyone. You feel might need this in their life. Thank you. So much for watching I love you and I'll see you the next video bye

somegirljess: Whoa! I am the darker-haired example that she used in this video haha - so crazy to see myself on an ellebangs video haha! My result was actually just from using a grey/titanium semi permanent colour on top of my light brown golden hair. It worked really well (although temporary), and was not damaging. Just wanted to put that out there if anyone is looking for a less damaging solution (my video is called How To Tone Dark Brassy Hair). Of course the 7A example that she used would work too! :)

NeuRoN 19: You are a life saver especially during these times where most hairdressers are closed ❤️❤️❤️

Jacquelin Montes: Hi Silvia, I have a question for you which is a bit puzzling to me. Wella Activating Lotion is basically a 20 Vol. Developer. For Demi Permanent Hair Coloring/Toning in general, the recommendation is to mix with 10 vol. Developer. So there must be something in Wella's Lotion that makes it safe to use with Demi Permanent Hair Color. My question is, what exactly is the difference between Wella's Activating Lotion and 10 Vol.(which is a no-lift) developer?

Jessica: I have highlighted hair and I am glad I found this video so I can tone my hair without lifting color. Thank you! Going to try it this weekend ❤️

Farrah Sanchez: I needed to just thank you for your wonderful content!!! Im a military spouse and a SAHM therefore spending a couple hundred dollars at a salon every 6-8 weeks is just not doable. I am very grateful to you for creating this channel. You explain everything and give such clear examples/photos. Keep up the amazing work!!!!

michelle costa: Thank you so much for making this video! I am a recent cosmo graduate who just got her license. Unfortunately I wasn't trained very well in my school. So videos like this are a god sent! I love how well you explained how the wella line worked and what to look for when picking out a product. Thank again. If you could do a similar video on the redken shades eq that would be amazing! I hear such great things about that line but I'm intimidate to use it. Love your content!

Sam Burke: I have strawberry light blonde dyed hair, would love a video like this for the Nicole Kidman type strawberry blondes or just a range of different blondes aside from ash blonde. you're expertise is always so helpful LOVE your videos

nyssa syratov: hi elle, i've been watching your videos about toning hair and find them useful. if you've already bleached your hair with permanent dye on, how often should you be toning your hair with demi-permanent dye? love your videos, i find them rly educational and love that you're a professional who advocates educating yourself to make your own decisions. could you go into toning for asian hair that's been bleached and dyed to ash?

S M: T11 and t18 wella toner combo cannot be compared to this demi permanent ash 10 color. They'e totally different. The toner makes your hair more white/grayish and this demi permanent made my hair a way darker ash and it looked just like Silvias did in this video before I tried the demi. Only reason I tried this was because the toner made my roots so warm looking and so I tried this which didn't affect the roots but I'm not a fan of the color. I much prefer the toner.

Andrea Rodgers: Awesome, Silvia! Just bought the semi-permanent toner and activator and supplies from Sally's! Doing my first baby lights and toner later this week! ❤️

lusine mustidi: You are amazing, I highlight and tone my hair based on your videos. I watch a lot of them, but eventually I end up using your advices, because what you say to do is understandable and easy to do at home. Thank you so much.

Lisa Marie: Thank you so much for doing this research!! So helpful and thorough!!

Laura Cahill: I recently decided to stop getting my hair highlighted at a salon and to do it at home. Everyone I colored my hair the roots were extremely orange!! It was so frustrating for me. You really helped me with this video!! My hair is a lot darker blonde but very ashy. Thank you!!

Marni Dillon: In all the years I have had my hair professionally sone they have never used a toner. I used these products this morning and it looks awesome. Thanks Silvia for the tips.

Emily Herrera: I just did this tonight and the results were NOT what I was expecting at all. It still looks nice and toned down my brassiness, but also deposited a lot more color back to my hair. I had a level 7/8 baylayage on my level 4/5 natural hair, and the ends were getting so brassy. I used the 7a wella demi with the activating lotion, left on for 20 min, and washed out with a deep conditioner. While I don't dislike the final color, which is basically an allover ashy medium to light brown baylayage, some of my golden tones still show and it's very hard to even tell the difference in level between my roots and ends without curling it and being in natural sunlight. I was hoping to be able to do this long term and save some money from going to the salon just for toning, but now I'll have to have my next appointment lift my color again and tone/color correct. Maybe if I only left this on for 5-10 min it would have deposited just enough to get my desired effect? Too late to know now :/ Also if you have baylayge I recommend applying from ends to roots.

Bohemienne Life: You are awesome! I have been using this as a toner for a few years and always go back to it when I have tried others. Now I can show my family ( who always come to me to highlight their hair) that it's the right product to use. Thank you I enjoy watching your videos so much.

Caitling123: What a good idea, using the wella demi as a toner! I work at Sallys Beauty Supply and I am a licensed cosmetologist...Blond Brilliance (found at sallys) Also has a GREAT line for blondes leaning a bit more brassy! I was pleasantly surprised by their brand! Thanks for the video, very helpful as always!

Suzy Peterson: Very helpful! Thank you! I always got the lightest toner instead of getting the level that matched the lightest level I had. Now I know and it makes so much sense

anjeanettes channel: Thank you so much for doing this video! I know a professional will always give me the best color, but I love doing some things at home. I have been using demi permanent color at home for months now, I love how it is no commitment, and if I mess it up I just need to wash it like crazy to get it out. Thank you for the product names and describing them, it great for those of us that primarily color at home.

Queen City Minis: I love how concise you are. Lots of content creators (especially in the beauty category), talk talk talk.

tbass74369: Thank you so much for this video! I actually have my cosmetology licences but haven't done hair professionally in 25 years. My 16 year old daughter put blue in her hair. It stuck to her hi-lights. I had to bleach the blue pieces to get it out. I then put the 10na in to tone her hair and it looks great!

gburychick: I am so happy you updated your toning technique with this video! I used the old video as a reference for a long time and always got a warm root. For some reason I searched your channel for an updated video on toning and here it was! I can’t wait to try it this weekend! Love you Elle Bangs!

birdluvrs: Hello Elle, I appreciate your video on toners. I followed your first video and used Wella T18 with 20 volume, and indeed it turned my 'brown' low-lights and roots a brassy orangey shade. I waited a couple weeks, then viewed this video, and tried the demi-permanent Wella in the 10NA, because I have very blonde in much of my hair. It didn't seem to work at all on the 'brown' areas and they are now still as brassy orange as before. Reviewing this video to see if I missed something, I'm wondering if I was given the wrong developer...It's colorcharm but does not have any blue on the bottle. Would this affect the outcome? What do you recommend now? P.S. the lady at the supply store said to me, you have many different colors in your hair...yikes!

Nadia Mills: Thanks for the video. You’ve taught me all about toners. I couldn’t help but notice that some of the comments below are suggesting that this doesn’t work. Elle has multiple videos on how to tone and where you need to be to get the right color shade for your current hair color to tone properly. Not being rude but if your results are not what you’re seeking, then maybe go back to one of her older videos to learn more about the concept of toning. Btw I’m not a professional but since I’ve been following this channel my at home results are spot on. However, I’ve made learning the entire process of lightening my own hair by carefully watching almost all of her videos that relate to lift, and toning my hair.

Tiffany’s Bunny Gang: I combined the t18 & t11 before I saw your channel. I was excited to see you to it too. Sometimes I use t14 & t11 or t10, t14 &t 15. For medium to dark blondes I use t27 & t35 mixed. Wella has a combo for everyone. I will mix toner with permanent wella color.

Aymee Hernandez: I've learned more from you in the past 5 videos than I did in my two years of beauty school. Thank you.

H. Katheryn Powell: Thank you for this video! I've always had an issue with my low lights turning gold after using a toner! This is an answer to my prayers! ❤️

Maria Anderson: Tried this a few days ago and it really did the trick - thanks!! I have dark hair with balyage that takes me down to about a level 11 blonde. I focused on the lighter areas that had turned really brassy and the result was fantastic! Your videos are amazing and full of so much useful information. So glad I found them! :)

Infinity: Thank you so much, lots of great info! I love that you always explain every bit of detail in all your videos,

Rayna Dennis: Thank You! Super helpful information. I love the breakdown of the products and being informed on what NOT to accidentally buy. Your videos are great!

April Crowe: It’s so nice to see someone giving out toning advice other than T18&T14... lol nothing against those, but I myself personally have never had just fabulous results with the Wella Toners.. As a pro myself I do have to agree that shades EQ is definitely where it’s at!!! However, the closest pro store to me is over an hour away so anytime I’m doing color for someone outside of the salon I usually end up going to Sally’s and trying me best to find products that perform as closely as possible to the ones we use in the salon .. I’ve discovered a toner at Sally’s that is the BOMB they are so close to shades 10P & 10T !!! It’s the Ion Color brilliance cream Toners the Platinum Lace is similar to 10T and Snow Cap is similar together 10p!!!!! Like I can’t brag on those toners enough!!!! I highly recommend giving them a try!!!

J. C.: I’ve watched several of these videos and felt there could be more showing and less telling. The beauty of YouTube is the ability to show the process.

Kellie Simpson: @ellebangs just now seeing this video but literally this is exactly what I've been searching for to fix my hair!!! You're amazing!!!!

jennifer b bayer: Hello! your videos are super helpful. I've been doing my hair for a few years and can't get out of this specific cycle- I have dark (dishwater brown) roots, light highlights, and brassy orange medium every where else. What can I do to tone those medium oranges to an ashy dark blond? Thanks so much!

Luv me Love: I did 7A and it made my hair dark af! Ugh! Edit: yes my hair was much darker, but after one wash my color has already lightened. It looks beautiful. The brown became brown and the highlights have no orange brassy color to them. Inconclusión: im sorry for ever doubting you

frazee1: my saturday always gets brighter when i see youve made a video ! thank you for sharing this everything ive learned about hair i learned from you ! thank you for teaching us the right way to do our hair at home! :)

Elena Davila: I love your videos. I have tried some of your tips and they work great! Please keep them coming!!!

mandyea637: I'd love to get your advice on my hair. I had some face framing balayage done in June. The girl that did it used F-18. She used a Golden toner after. The toner has since washed out, leaving my hair a lot less orange. (I'm a natural brunette with bleached highlights now) but my highlights tend to look on a the green side or super yellow. I'd love to send you a pic to get your advice on how to treat it. I switched to paraben and sulfate free shampoos to hopefully help. But since it's not a whole head of color, I don't wanna ruin my natural hair with anything. Suggestions please!?

Damaris Meza: Wow I love your videos. I have learned so much from them. I just started the process of lighting my hair and now I understand the process. Thank you!

Deanna Gilmore: This video is perfect. You answered my questions and I can't wait to try adding the demi. I've fault the red/yellow for 6 months!

Devon Stone: Thank you so much for your videos!!! Your level of professionalism and easy to understand explanations are fantastic currently I wear bellami dark brown extentions as I have Lupus and experience hair loss. I would like to add a few highlights similar to a very, very light balayage. What color of toner would you recommend for a light to medium ash blonde? Thank you

Chris B: Thank u so much for your awesome videos! I have been into doing my own hair since I was 16. Your guidance has been priceless. I follow you and somegirljess for my blonde ambitions. Well, my hubby gave me a gift card for a salon/spa and I decided to use it to get additional highlights. It was a traumatic disaster. I noticed the gal was over lapping my old lights. I asked her what vol she was using since i knew the existing lights couldn't take much more processing. Her reply "40 vol! You want it light you said." You can imagine what happened next. We rinse and my hair is falling off and damaged more than it has ever been. I'm on my 2nd olaplex treatment which has helped. But I still can't even run a comb thru it while wet. Sorry this is so long. The color is super patchy, brassy, and damaged. Can I safely use this demi to color over this mess? I'm mostly wondering if the color activator is as harsh as a 10 vol developer. I cant afford any kind of processing. I've considered what jess has shown in her vids on damaged hair. Just use fanciful rinse. However, I'm afraid the rinse will not allow my deep treatments to penetrate the hair while I'm rocking a rinse. If anyone can help me, please...I'd be so thankful.

Debbie: I have watched many many hair coloring tutorials etc. etc. and by far this one explains toning the clearest I’ve ever heard it and I want to thank you for that!!

imelda: I love your videos. I don't really practice on my hair but I so appreciate how you explain how it works thank you

Joanna VanRiper: perfect. I had that exact problem with your last video and this is the perfect solution!!!

Anabriella: Thank you so much! This is exactly what I need! ❤️

cbatt99: Re-watching this wondering what I did wrong! Highlighted my brown hair to a light orange which seemed 7/8 to me. I used 7A on most of my hair, and 8a in front, then ended up trying the 7A in front, both times I ended up looking like a redhead! My cool tone skin is not happy. I need to try again, but not sure if I should be changing the toner or trying to lighten the front a bit more?!

Ashana Desilva: I did this and it semi worked! I had pretty brassy brunette on the body blending into a pretty light blonde on the ends. What I ended up doing was using a level 8A on the darker part of my hair which was about a level 7-8 and blended into 10A for the lighter part of my hair at the bottom. It worked pretty well( way better than T18 or 14) on the lighter strands that were more blonde than brunette and muted the brassiness a bit on the reddish orange parts. Its not a cure all for sure and I will def need to go to the salon, but it will work for the time being. IT WILL MAKE YOUR HAIR DARKER, but usually so does toner so im not complaining. Its Demi- permanent so it will fade. Thanks Elle!

sweetpea- KellyAnn: I know this problem so well! Right now I have really dark chocolate brown hair with platinum blonde pieces throughout. Toning my blonde pieces is a pain in my ass! I've always used the color charm toner in T18 with a 20 volume and have had to work very fast and not get it on the dark. I switched to a 10 volume and it worked great

Hey Mariah Anne: Thank you! I keep looking for a toner I can use at home without developer, I can’t wait to try this!

Amy Taint: Yeah, Wella 12A permanent color on my platinum highlights was brassing my lowlights (even with a 10 dev.) Just tried the 10NA demi-permanent you suggested and WOW, yellow was mellowed into a great non-brass head of soft & pretty blonde - SO nice between salon visits and I thank you, Silvia <3 <3 <3

Fotini Georgiou: I saw too many videos with other hairdressers, but for me, your`s the best. Light voice, beautiful hair (we always look at the hairdressers' hair, this is a quality indicator for the client) informativeness, precision for advice, no blah blah, no unexpected screams (sorry B.M)Go ahead, gorgeous, be healthy, be happy.

Kara Vose: Hi Silvia! Thank you for all your help with toning blonde hair. I really appreciate how you share all your knowledge with us! Do I need to apply the Wella Color Charm 10 to damp hair, or dry hair?

Diana Machado: In case of ex-blondes who are now brunettes with caramel highlights, what would be the recommended color to make sure the highlights do not become too light and the hair still looks dark?

Emeraldnebula8: Awesome video!!!! Love this! Thank you for your help :)

AJ McQueen: I've enjoyed DIY'ing my hair thanks to your videos, and I'm appreciative for your expert advice. Unfortunately, I think the advice for toning brassy brunette hair needs the disclaimer that if the brunette is trying to go blonde, or maintain the lightness of the lightened hair, this process of using 7A will tone it down so much that one loses the blonde they were working on attaining. I had a bayalage with 6N on my roots transitioning to a level 8 at my ends, 7 mid-shaft, and was loving it except the brass after a while. After doing the recommended process for "level 8 or lower" , my hair turned out looking like it had no variation AND looks muddy. I'm very disappointed. Thankfully its demi so I will wash the crap out of this stuff, but I would've rather toned with a wella T-level toner after pre-moisturizing using the coconut oil technique had I known I was going to back track in my progress.

ANGE K: Yes this is what I have been doing. I actually think it conditions the hair. Because your hair feels nice when it’s done. Great advice. Glad I am doing it right...

Kara Conley: So glad I watched this before walking into Sally's. I have sparse baby lights/balayage in my natural hair. When I've used wella toners in between the salon to rid brassiness, I hate that it would lift my natural hair. Thanks so much!!

Pau Rubio: Thank you!!! I have use developer and always comes to brassy! I tried this one and wow my hair looks brass free and pretty! Thank you so much sylvia

R. Litt: Everything you stated in this video my hair dresser recommended ! Amazing info wow! Thank you !

Sierra O'Donnell: Hi! I have Googled SO much on the process for toning -- wash first or don't.. ect! Can you give a quick rundown of the best pre and post toning routine using this Demi permanent toning method? Thanks so much!! :)

Abigail Collins: Thank you so much for this video! My roots are looking a little more yellow than the rest of my white hair. I've always used t18 to tone my hair and it's recently totally stopped working for me. Can't wait to try these products out!

Wendy D.: Thank You Elle for covering this topic. I'm naturally a medium to dark brown and previously lightened my hair 3 months ago just to lift all the level 6 and 7 semi permanent in my hair. My goal is to go to a pale light blonde or platinum if you would call it. So, bleached my hair last night with Clairol Born Blonde (50mins) then used a 9 Clairol Natural Instinct and it did absolutely nothing. Maybe because I shampooed after??? Or didn't use an Ash color (which they did not carry at CVS). I should have done more researched.... Anyway, my hair is like a fluorescent yellow right now (little orange hue). So I was wondering would it be ok to pick up the Wella ColorCharm Demi Permanent in 10NA + toner lotion and redo this today since there is no ammonia in the product. Or would it be too soon to color again? Also, what do you recommend to use to conditioner and hair strengthener? What type of hair mask, leave on conditioner etc. Appreciate your help.

Tammy VanRoon: Thank you SO much for sharing your expertise. I had my hair highlighted last week by my amazing new colorist, and we are now going into a lockdown....so I won't get my next toning session with her. Now I am off to find a video on how to determine what level my hair is at currently, lol. I'm a hair moron and always rely on the professionals to take care of me.

Ronda Shamansky: I'm so happy to have toning explained now that I'm coloring my hair at home, what with the pandemic going on and all. the only thing I'd like to see more of is an explanation of how to put this on the hair - do you put it all over your head, like all-over hair color, or do you apply it only to the brassy sections individually? And then, how long to let it on? Thank you for the at-home hair help!

cynthiacouto: My only concern about this is that you’re recommending applying an ash color (blue base) over top of yellow hair ( blue + yellow = green). For orange tones, this makes complete sense, but for yellow, not so much. Because i work with this line, i know that most of the demi ash colors run more on the violet side than the blue. So in this case, you’re usually okay. But someone who is not a professional may misunderstand when you recommend ash to tone out yellow tones. Also, you can mix any of the Wella T series toners with a 10 or even 6 vol developer (which is what the demi activating lotion is) for application on hair with lowlights or roots, and it will not lift the darker hair. I personally still find this works better to tone the hair then the demi colors.

Nicole Hubbell: How would you describe your hair color in this video?? I'm absolutely in love with it and want my stylist to best understand exactly what I want when I get my hair done. I have strawberry blonde undertones and a lot of that color at my root, so combating that has been nearly impossible which is why I think it may be best for me to go darker at the root rather than light blonde

Stephanie Cole: I could have used this video like 3 weeks ago! I didn't realize the toner and developer would lift my dark roots and that happened to me :( but its toned down a lot since then and looks better! I'm going to try this method in a couple of months!

Eva Mandri: Hi! I found your video very interesting. My ex-hairdresser used 10.0 and 9.01 wella touch toner. She recommended it to me but never emphasised that I have to use activating lotion, hence the result was never the same (if any). Could you please recommend some site where to get those ingredient from, such as T11/T18 or 10A toner, Wella Colour Charm demi-perm and activating lotion and how much volume to look for? Sorry for the stupid questions, I have never been a hairdresser :-)

Ashley Elsberry: This video is exactly what I needed thank you so much

Sara Beers: Love your videos. You have helped me tons over the years. So how long would I let this process? Do I go by the time on the bottle instructions? Or watch it close like a toner and wash it out when it looks right?

Amena Abdel: I happened to stumble across your channel looking for tips on toning hair bc i haven't been very successfully with the wella toners but i have confidence i got it right with these products so i thank you very much

Pia Walker: Would you recommend using a semi permanent color or permanent toner to correct a small section of lightened, brassy roots?

Karen Cutler: This is so great, thank you! It's so hard to find a good ash toner for home use!!

Jacquelin Montes: Hi Sylvia, you mentioned in your video that we should only use the activator to mix the dye, however, I do know that it can be used with low volume developer. No higher than 3% HP.

JR H: Yes! This is exactly the info I was searching for and had no idea about the activating lotion and demi-perm because I have a wee bit of regrowth and didn't want to lift it, thank you!

Carmen Kittle: So glad I came across this video.. I tried the 7 ash and my hair turned out great!! Before it was a yellow, brassy color.. The 7 ash tone down the brass and it looks super natural..

AmyJacqueline G.: Just went from red to blonde. It’s quite the process! Hope to visit your salon someday!

Stephanie Kosteba: The 7a worked amazing for me!

Paola: Awesome! Thanks for explaining in detail!

Judi A: Thank you for another wonderful and informative video beautiful! How long do you recommend leaving it in for toning purposes?

Jesse Hawkins-Mayberry: Another great informative video

Nicole Gonzales: So incredibly helpful! Ty!

CHRISTINA DOSS: I have followed and used your advise for years. You do a great job thanks.

✴️Pheebs✴️: You seriously saved me with this ! The demi permanent 10 fixed my brassy hair and it it a pretty blonde now! I tried 2 toners before this with no results, thank you so so much, you're a coloring genius!

Samanta Rizzi: Wonderful! Thank you so much!

Kris: This literally could not have come at a better time for me. It's like the "beauty gods" sent Elle. LOL My hair is blonde, but it's pretty damaged, and I was coming on here to see if Elle had advice for a gentle developer, because it needs to be toned and I don't want to damage it more. For some very odd reason, I have two full bottles of Wella's activating lotion (even though I don't think I've ever used their demi color before, so it's a big mystery). It sounds like all I need to do it go to Sally's tomorrow and pick up some demi color. I'm living on a budget, so I love how I only have to buy one thing. I'm sure I have a coupon too if it isn't already on sale. Maybe not, but either way, this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!!

Sofia E: Hey Sylvia! I was wondering if you could talk about keratin treatments? Does it reduce curls? I have curly hair but it's texture is smoother so I know the perm that's usually used on "afro" hair texture would be too harsh. I really want to reduce my curls to at least waves, any advice? tysm! (:

Valerie Kay: You are the BEST. I live in Boca Raton, home of very expensive highlighted blondes. I'm a natural dark blonde and I do my own lightening (roots) and highlights. Now toning too! I get compliments on my hair color all the time! I always refer them to you! Thanks for answering all our questions and challenges with blonde hair. XOXO

Eve Clark: omg, this has helped so much with my brassy orange problem i've been having

sundus haroon: I love this! I have a caramel balayage and I'm definitely gonna try the 7A with the activating lotion. I had a question. Can we add olaplex no.1 to the treatment, since the lotion has hydrogen peroxide?

Noodle 101: Not hair related but damn girl, your makeup is stunning! Simple yet simply gorgeous

Jeaneth Aldaco: hello! would you recommend the demi wella hair color or the T18 toner if you are concerned about damage to your hair?

caitlin leanna: THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FORNTHANK YOU!!!!

Jacquelyn Rhodes: Hi! Thank you for sharing this! I went and got the Color Charm demi-permanent color in 10NA-10/01 and activating lotion last night. I have level 10 hair from coloring (not bleaching) my hair with a level 11 high lift color/40 volume developer. My roots are always a little bit brassy. Should I apply this on damp hair as I would a regular toner or dry? Also, do I need to apply this to the entire length of my hair or just the brassy root area? Thanks! :-)

Sayaka Hayashi: Why so many dislikes? ‍♀️ I find your video extremely informative. Thank you

Heather Orcutt: Thank YOU SO MUCH for doing this video and finding a product like This! I have had SO much trouble keeping my ends toned, but my roots virgin! The regular Wella toners would turn my roots brassy and defeat the whole purpose! I was ready to throw in the towel...until I saw this video! My ends are a level 7A, but my roots are a level 2, black. So as you can imagine, there is a lot of brassy pigments between the two levels! Thankfully this toner did everything you claimed it would and my hair is nice and Ashy, just how I like It!

funwithcharbear: This was extremely helpful!!

Sabrina Garcia: Just what I was looking for thanks!!

Melissa Milkquakez: Thank you for this video!! I just bought toner and perm hair color at Sally's and I had no idea when to use the toner in the coloring process. So, thanks again and wish me luck!!
