Before you buy, you will need to know how many extension bundles you are going to need for your client.

Now the extension industry has standardized wefted hair. Wefted hair, unless it is noted otherwise, is always sold in quarter pound bundles. Now what that means in practical terms is the shorter your hair, the longer your weft will be. And the longer your hair is, the shorter your weft will be.

Typically, you will need about one bundle of 14 inch hair, about a bundle and a half of 18 inch hair, and about two bundles of 22 inch hair to mask your clients ponytail.

Now what that looks like in real terms, when we go to our bundles, we are going to pick up the hair. And you are going to give it a twist and look at how thick that ponytail is. Your client's hair will need to be thinner than this or you will need to buy a second bundle. Okay, this is on the 14 inch hair.

Now on our 22 inch hair, our bundles are going to be thinner. So, again, we are going to twist that into a ponytail and you can see that is quite a bit thinner. So we are going to have either thinner hair for our clients or we are going to have to pick up a second bundle. Like I said, typically you will need about two bundles of 22 inch hair. So that is how you would determine your amount of bundles per wefted hair.

Now, if you are looking at prebonded hair, which is the hair that comes in tips, it is going to vary all over the industry. We sell ours by the gram. And typically you are going to need about 150 grams for an 18 inch length. So that will give you some kind of an idea.

Some other sellers will sell them by tip count. So you will need to refer to their specifics because it will depend on how big their tip size is in order for you to get that full coverage.

So hopefully that will help you determine how many bundles you need for your client.

Doctored Locks: That really depends on the thickness of the dreads, color blends etc. I would say a good general estimate is about 7 dreads per pack. I would definitely order more than you think you need - we offer a 30 day return policy on unopened goods so you can order heavy and not get stuck with hair you didn't end up needing. :)

Tess Mohundro: Very informative! Thank you. How many thin dreads do you estimate could be made from a weft of 14 inch hair?

Shannon Dykes: So I have fairly thick hair, and in one long braid, it reaches about mid-back (braline) I want to get it to my knees for a costume... but I would like it to be close to the same thickness as my regular braid. I am going to order the Kanekalon Jumbo Braid, (that you recommended in another video) and was stumped as to how many to order. This bundle is 82 inches in length, and I know it's not going to be the same as estimating on the other bundles... my real hair braid is about the same thickness as the twisted one you show on the 14 inch hair... how many would you recommend I order? Thank you in advance!

Doctored Locks: Well, it most likely won't be cheap! ;) But we can hunt down some options if you need em!

mrsmelamedina: How many bundles do you estimate that I would need to make 50 locs 24 inch long 0.7-.8 cm in thickness?

Dan Playter: Wonder how much it would cost with my 35 inches of hair lmao

Claudine Fiona Astbury: Fab advice thank you!

Marie Petite: I want to make my own I tip extensions; how many bundles of wefted hair do I need to make 150 tips?

Doctored Locks: You're welcome!
