Beth Moore: The Hair Brush (Life Today / James Robison)

Beth tells the story of the old man in the airport with long, matted hair. Original air date Sept 5, 2007. To view the whole program, visit lifetoday.org/video

I will tell you a story that I told many many years ago that remains dear to me, particularly because people bring it back up to me over and over again, it's probably the thing I've been asked about as much as anything regarding stories and Bible studies along The years, but it's such a statement in my own life and such a memory of God, overtaking me and enabling me to do something I couldn't do you have no idea how dangerous you would be if you would live film to the measure with the fullness of Christ I was headed off to the east side of the country to Asheville North Carolina to speak, so I was having to go to a part of the airport. That was just one large room where you went off into several different halls down to the smaller plane. So it was for a small airport in a small part of the terminal, it was packed absolutely packed and our chairs were all facing one another and suddenly I see that the eyes of all the people against the wall are watching something behind me and it was Like a movie because all of their eyes shifted this way this big around and they began to come this way whatever it was, was going right behind me and I'm thinking. Oh, I wish I were looking or you like that. I'M a people watcher, I was so desperately thought. What are they looking at, and I can't wait to look for myself until it comes all the way around here and then suddenly in my peripheral vision, I begin to see a little of it and it is a flight of the hostess that is pushing up a Man in a wheelchair right to the end of my row and there's nobody between us and this place is packed. So I want you to know that Jesus went to a significant amount of trouble to make sure that I saw this man. So I'm waiting until everybody else gets more polite and then I go and when I looked over at him he was the oddest sight. He looked like. He was not one iota less than about 129, I'm not kidding. This was the oldest looking person I had ever seen, not only that, but he had gray hair that was down to here. His fingernails were every bit as long as money was clean, but it's just an odd sight. His pants, it looked like that here obviously lost a lot of weight because they were just bunched up I'll, never forget how he looked at. He was just his head was just hanging down like this, and his hair was in strings like this huh. This is how much God thinks of us just memorizing scripture, but not do anything with it, because the Lord begins to compel my heart overwhelms me overwhelms me. Well, I have learned. I walk with him a long time I knew about that is scary, that God is up to something when he is overwhelming your heart, like that, and I thought oh, please God! No! Oh, please, please, God! No because I'm already knowing he wants me to witness to this man, and so I save myself in my spirit now, I'm not talking out loud, but in my spare time talking about silently and I'm saying I'm sure my mouth is going because I say to him: Do not every witness to that man, and now I'm gon na tell you as clear as I'm talking to you now. The Lord spoke to my heart, then very few times. I'Ve ever heard. God be this articulate with me, and I'm telling you word for word. These words came into my heart. I'M not asking you witness to him! I'M asking you to brush his hair, Lord. That man needs witnessing to what good it's combed hair. If a man is lost, I can tell Lord that man, I am your witness. I am your witness. I am your witness. I am your girl me me. I got the plan, I got the Roman Road, then still in my heart I mean we were just having a fight. I didn't tell you to witness to him. I told you to brush his hair. I thought I don't have a hairbrush, you fix my hair and then it's done for the day into our unfix it and that brushes in the luggage or she want to say to you. So I remember, and I the Lord still compel me come out. So I get up walk over and I'm thinking about them. I don't even have a hairbrush you're all supposed to be thoroughly equipped unto all good works. I did not have a hairball. I walk over. I get right in front of the man his heads hanging out like this. I lean out like this. I said sir may I have the honor of brushing your hair and he says what a little ladder, sir, I had the honor of brushing your hair goes little. Lady, if you want me to hear you you're going to speak up, sir now I have the privilege I brought in your hair, to which everyone therefore goes whoa and ever I can feel every honest piercing they just like it and I'm just sure Milly ated, and He looks at me and says: if you want to I'll go, I don't want to. I went yes, sir. I would absolutely love to, but my caller Beth, I don't have a hairbrush. He says I have a hairbrush. He said it's back in my bag, so I go all the way around the wheelchair. His bag is on the back of it like this. I get down on my knees. I unzip this little duffel bag and I start pulling out it's clean undershirts, his pair of pajamas, all sorts of things, and as I do, I cannot tell you the feeling that overwhelms me. I'M just flooded with the love of cries. I found the hairbrush is one of those real old bristle ones. Don'T look anything like our brushes do now and and when I stood up I began, then I went over to him and I thought he'll tell you the truth. This is what I'm good at. I had two girls, I'm good at this, so I just came and I just began to brush his hair and it was so matted that I couldn't even believe it. So I had to get down to the very bottom of it. Not I just brushed the very ends of it and then just a little bit. I took us forever and I want to tell you I was oblivious to everybody else in that room. At that point, nobody else was alive to me. I just kept brushing and kept brush until that hair was as smooth as silk. I went back around to Minh and squatted down in front of him put my hands on his hands. They were on his knees. His head was just like that. I said, sir, do you know Jesus and he said yes, I do I said. Well, of course you do that figures. I wanted to share the gospel with you, but no, you need your hair brushed and he told me that his abroad of so many years would not marry him until he came to know Christ, and he said I was just sitting here thinking to myself and he Wept I'm about to cry telling you he said. I was just sitting here thinking what a mess I must be for. My bride he'd been that hospital for months. He was about to return back home. Nobody had cut his hair anything. I don't know how long had been since he'd been brushed, that hostess came and put him on the plane and she came back out and she was crying. I mean hard and she said what made you do that and I said Jesus he's the bossiest thing. She didn't need Christ, so I did get to talk to her knows what our need is. Man didn't need witnessing. Do we need his hair brushed when we are filled to the measure with the fullness of Christ? You sweet thing: you cannot believe the needs we can make. We can do what we know we can and while you're doing it you're just thinking that ain't me. That is that really ain't me. No god, you

Kerri Valor: Every time I hear this I love it more and more. God calls us to do the simple things to just care for each other. What an amazing and powerful way to love!

Lola Houston: Tears of joy came to me as I watched this video. I am a caretaker of sorts. What a beautiful thing to take a bit more time to ensure another's confidence.

Abigail-Grace Naumenko: "Oh Jesus! How beautiful you are, and how gently you love us. Thank you that you care even for the smallest things, like our hair!"Oh I love this testimony! It's so deep yet so simple! Bless you Jesus and bless you Beth Moore!

TheVickiJo: I first heard Beth tell this as part of a "keynote address" to chaplains (It was fully sermon; the woman can preach! Call it what you want to.) as they were about to go out and meet the needs of the broken people of NYC after the planes had taken down our safety net on September 11, 2001. It was a perfect sermon. She got out of the way and let God speak to them. This story was the highlight, and perfect example of what they needed to do, and how they needed to do it.

Kathy's vlog : I am laughing abundantly and feel SO joyful! Thank you!!! I am currently in my third week of my very first bible study EVER! It is James, Mercy Triumphs - I have been compelled to start a video diary of my new beginnings to know CHRIST! Thank you (to small words spoke very BIG!) THANK YOU!

Chris Pecherzewski: wow I read this but not I hear it..I hope I would obey God like you did!! Makes me cry becasue God wants to bless a life through us! thank you Beth!! awesome testamony!

Cheryl Wilson: Hilarious and to the heart! God blesses obedience. I love it. I love Beth Moore. Your boldness is awesome.

Katie: This actually happened to me. I heard this story years ago and started carrying a bigger purse. I thought I had everything I would need, including a hairbrush. I even had random things I didn't think I needed. Then one day my husband and I were on the road and the sun was setting. We drove up behind an Amish couple in a buggy flying down the road, desperate to get home before dark because they don't have headlights and the ordnung here forbids the yield sign on the back of buggies, thus rendering them unsafe. I finally got their attention and offered for us to drive either in front of or behind them to light their way. They politely declined, but then asked if I had a lighter to light their lamp so they could see. I don't smoke! We had taken out the lighter and gotten rid of it and we use that port for our car cameras! I was not prepared at all. I now carry a lighter and a spark stick everywhere I go. But I'm sure God will have somebody I ask to help request something else I don't have...

CHEWY ASMR: I’ve watched this many times over the years. And it always makes my eyes well up.

Monas Place: Thank you Beth so much for sharing this story where God used the small things to confound the wise.... I love it when He does that!!

Carolyn Brown: This message inspired me to a servants heart. It's not always the big things, sometimes God calls us to do little things as acts of humility and service to others. Being obedient to whatever God calls us to do even little things.

daclibra: thank you soooo much Beth for sharing this!! I have shared this example of TRUE practical Christianity in everyday life with EVERYONE on my messenger list!! I hope it touches someone's soul and makes them hungry!! and I also appreciate knowing I'm not the only crazy one out there!!!❤❤❤❤

::Blaque Butterfly::: I LITERALLY Lol'd watching this!!! You never know what God is up too❤️

James Feeney: Luv this vid! Laughter, goosebumps and tears!!!

mslegacy35: Yes this was an excellent message. Thank you for posting this.

Peggy Rau: I absolutely Love this story. You never forget the first time God overwhelms your heart. And I have argued with God so many times about things he wanted me to do and I was determined not to. But did it anyway.

leslie brandt: Beautiful story and my goodness yes, sometimes obeying the inner voice of the Lord can be hard but when you say "yes" to Him AMAZING things happen!! Supernatural things! Wonderful things!! And all I had to do was say "yes"....and maybe pick up a hairbrush too :)

Kerri Valor: Thank you so much for sharing this story!  God bless your ministry SO big that everyone watching cannot help but see Him!!

Donald Schaefer: That was great!  If we listen to the Holy Spirit and do what He asks us to do, we won't go wrong.  I loved that story!

Kris Vander Boon: A true blessing to my soul.!! Women of Faith.

yoliboo1: Laugh & cried! Love Beth Moore!

Paulette Kennedy: Praise God, HE is amazing. He uses us to perform the needs of people here on earth. I am a witness. Hallelujah!!!

Aliyah Love: I love this story so much!!!

vcfmama: PRECIOUS story! This is so much the heart of Jesus!

Stephanie Lewis: I cried I needed this

Ana Nivia: Amazing, touching, excellent testimony.

The McKinnon Family: I have read some things that Beth Moore has said in response to this. I believe that she is teaching women. I believe she said once in a while a few men will join in the back of some of her studies, but she is a teacher of women. You can find this information online.

CLEO TURNER: This video expresses the overwhelming love of Christ.

KashBlack: This is awesome!! This was a great example of how applicable the Scriptures are about love! Thanks Jesus! (And yeah, that dude shouldn't have been there.)

J. LeBron: Love this! Awesome reminder of how we ought to daily ask him, "Lord, what would You like me to do today?".

alleiah marcott: I love her!!

mcdave55: so very good no matter how many times I've heard this

regina coffey: I wish the Holy Spirit would take hold of me like that!! I would do love to hear Jesus speak to my heart!!!

tamara flood: I love this story

Carla Craft: Beautiful story!

Michael La Barre: Wonderful story! A great example of faith and works!

L H: GOD IS SOOO REAL - LOVED THIS AND HER! co worker sent this to me - so I now know who she is - WOW - GOD IS SO POWERFUL!

eatsushi4free: Wow, what a story!!!!

Rachel Her: So beautiful!

MrsBrittle: Beth is so "delightful" and has amazing teaching methods ... using her personal humanity experiences to have God gain the glory! Stories we can remember, like her hairbrush story ;)

Leslie Moorhead: Beth, in her trials and tribulations, has been a God send for me.  I have been a receiver of her book collections, namely the one entitled "Breaking Free."  I was blessed to do this workbook she designed and wrote by herself on one of her trips to the hotels she stays in to develop study materials for us who love her teachings.  I am a male, too.  Some people have said a man should not listen to a woman teacher of the Bible, namely men tell me that I should not have listened to Beth's teachings, for she is a woman.  But, to tell you the truth, I found no man able to teach the Bible as well as she can on a daily basis and be as thorough as she is able to be.  I am sorry, I just wasn't able to find a man who could translate the Bible like I had heard it done by her.

Phylis Ledesma: The first time I heard this story from Beth was at a Women's Bible Study at my church in the early 2000's... It is called, "A Man After God's Heart" and you can buy the videos or audios with alone or with the study lifeway.com

Lily Oliva: love her, she is an amazing teacher;) bless you Beth Moore;)

Kris: Simply showing His Love in our behavior to all without words, that witness has a ripple effect.

Loved, cherished & healed: God is so good oh to be used by Him in powerful ways such as this- it IS possible! Thank you for your witness and testimony Beth!

Lena Hovanesian: This story moved me to the point of tears. Only the Love of Christ....

Louis Matta Jr: Thanks. I can't hear this story often enough.

87plaid: @lifetodaytv Thank you! I've been looking for that episode on itunes as well.

Donna Gizzarelli: "he's just the bossiest thing"  <3 Jesus!!

liza martin: Beth i only heard you once in a woman's bible study many years ago but you blessed me and inspired me bc i am called to be a preacher but i wasnt serving the Lord. But that's not why I'm commenting... Im serving the Lord now and He has reinstated my calling.... But I've been watching YouTube and for some reason a video popped up what to do about YOU beth moore and i could not even finish it it made me sick the way these men have picked you apart and this is one of the clips they used. Of course they didn't play the whole thing. And i think this was a beautiful story. I only heard you once many years ago but i know in my heart that was from the holy spirit bc He lives in me and speaks to me. And we are prompted by the holy spirit to do things like this. These evil men grieved my spirit. They have a form of godliness but deny the power of God. Its so sad. They are living by a set of rules with no relationship!! when you are in a relationship you both share things with each other. Yes God talks to us. ... I felt compelled to come here and encourage you but also others, maybe new Christians who may be confused. Do you want to follow strict rules to feel like you are something or do you want to know God. Talk to him. Hear him talk to you. Know that he knows you and shares things with you? Bc that is what a relationship with God is. If you Hear any Christians focusing more on picking on what other pastors are saying than on Jesus christ then turn it off. If you read your bible God will reveal himself to you and show you the truth and so many things amazing things. There is nothing like having God your creator share his thoughts with you. And enjoy doing so and hearing yours. The bible says if we lift up christ he will draw all men into himself. We are called to lift up christ not down our brothers. And God will show you who is speaking His words and who isn't as you stay in His word. He tells us to test the spirits. He told us there will be a falling away and apostasy and also that there will be a group who are religious but deny the power of God. The only way to sort through that mess is staying close to God and in His word.... And Beth i am now subscribed to your channel. You are beautiful. Dont let them discourage you. They turn off the comments so no one can even show them they are wrong but instead of lifting up christ are spending hours of time bashing people. I wanted to throw up.

Janna McCracken: it's actually the "Roman Road". she says, "amen. still we are having a fight in my heart. I didn't ask you to witness to him, I asked you to brush his hair".

sunnbob: I have read this story, but to hear it from Beth Moore herself is just beautiful!!!

JR Ruffin: Beautiful!

Tiffany Mally: I love God, He is so amaZing!! Who is like Him and who can we compare Him to, No one and nothing! He truly is the Famous One!

Lisa Lee: Someone needs to fix the sutitles immediately! But yes, Beth Moore is absolutely amazing!

LeslieLovePeace: She is amazing!

Tammy Wallace: God is so loving!

Debra Dodd: This so awesome!! ❤️

Nathalie Amazan: I love this haha

Jamiesuemattox: Awesome!

Ellery R: Amen

new world son old time religion: THANK YOU.

MsDeelove1: Thank you!

Michelle Coronado: So awesome

Maria David: love this story & Beth

Nick B: Thank you God.

BuenasNoticiasdeIL: Going through someone's bag makes her overwhelmed by the love of God??? I just dont know the point of this story other than she is a superhero for brushing a mans hair....

MrBudwv: Amen.

Gene M: Great story.

Norma Moon Willow: Can someone PLEASE tell me what, exactly, she says after she says "I've got the Roman robe..."?

Fernando Walter Bertedor Schultz: Thank You !!! , Muchas Gracias !!! , Danke !!! , Tante Grazie !!! , Merci !!! , Obrigado !!! :) (Y)

Cora stockton: @shutterkat TOTALLY agree!

johnna sams: Love u beth

seamaidensmalley: 12 people didn't want their hair brushed.

canndo1: James said that if you see a need and don't do it - it is sin - to not tell someone who is hungry "Be ye filled" and leave that person hungry. Beth answered that man's need by answering God's call to love one another...

Meleah Braddock: @andrewp6262 Witnessing is the act of telling the story of Christ. Father, son, holy spirit.

Kimberly Walker: All I can say is !WOW!

Tara bleau: She is also teaching a bible class more then preaching to a whole church. In a bible class you can go or not go. Its more adding to your faith in God. Sometimes a woman might touch you more then a man, sometimes visa versa. I think sometimes a woman talking about God is like when your mom talks about God.....sometimes Med need a "mom" telling them God loves them and its ok. <3

Bronnie Yorke: He... Jesus is just the Bossiest Thing!

sbcruiser2: 1 Samuel 17: 29

Candice Rucker: She is a very great speaker. she reminds me of "Paula white " Sincerely Yours Truly, Candice Rucker

dolores oswalt: Beautityfully funny christian story, and i more thenlove BETH MOORE'S teaching's.

BuenasNoticiasdeIL: Shes a good performer. With whispers and walking around. But honestly... Is this just a show??? Money pays

Cyndee Schaub: Beth Moore. Is I just too funny in this.

Meme Cottrill: Yes I love Jesus with all my heart and if that is dumb then I want to be the dumbest person on earth but at least I wont be a fool like you. I would rather be dumb than a fool. Only a fool says in his heart there is no God. Psalm 53:1 and you will find that out at the end of your life when He takes back the very breath you are breathing now and then we will see who is dumb, it won't be me I promise you that.

Itzmanda: Women aren't allowed to share the Gospel? It specifically states that in the Bible? hmmm....must have missed that one.

Meme Cottrill: you are silly. Even uncombed hair to a man that can't comb his for his wedding is important to God. God loves you and is concerned with anything that concerns you, it just takes time for God to find someone to be obedient to Him. I would do it cause I love God.

Ginger Holt: King McAllister, this is what you got out of the story? smh

Stella Villalobos: Many people might not understand that our LORD JESUS is a very Personal God....Many of God’s people have talked about you, putting things in people’s mind and heart. Using your name to criticize you ... but I know you do hear from God and the Lord’s personality is able to be used by you because you don’t limit God, maybe you don’t always use scripture but your obedience shows the lLove of God towards His children. So yes, I truly believe this was a Devine appt with this man, receiving God’s PERSONAL TOUCH✝️ May the Lord protect you and fight your battles against others trying to damage your Ministry. GOD BLESS✝️

Janna McCracken: if you don't agree with what youre watching, why are you watching? and furthermore, why must you make such horrific comments? I pray God Himself visits you and you repent for such harshness and the slandering of others that you've done. you could just as easily have kept your awful opinions to yourself. which is probably what I should also have done. God help you!

GreenFamily: That was CLEARLY the Holy Spirit moving her. Shame on Wretched for saying otherwise. Keep on being obedient sis Beth!

Speakwitness Now: wow...the Holy Spirit does not give me these kind of specific directions but if He did I would like to think I would not argue with him. In the Bible when people heard the voice of God they tended to fall on their faces in fear.

Itzmanda: Why does it matter? I'm sorry but I fail to see where in the Bible it said that men were the only ones who could share the gospel....

Christy Rayner: theres no problem women speaking to women even for southern baptist though is there? ;) if the men want to listen in, while that is their choice.

Spikenard MZ: there are men in her audience which is forbidden dont be fooled people

ashley nelson: @SamBugsMam they didn't preach, they shared that He had risen! sorry, I am a southern Baptist!

stillcherokeeindian: I'm trying to buy the episode on iTunes does anybody know what date she ORIGINALLY did this on??? Not the date that it was put on YouTube but the date whenever she did this message on tv(?????) thx :)
