SUMMARY:

- In the Andre Walker hair typing system, everything comes down to how curly your hair is naturally.

- 1A hair is usually not thick at all and extremely soft and fine. Its biggest advantage is that it naturally looks really shiny.

- 1B hair, on the other hand, is kinda thick and has great volume near the roots, so it looks way more full than 1A hair type.

- 1C hair is really thick and has impressive volume. However, it's almost impossible to curl! This type is pretty common among Asian women.

- 2A hair is right in between wavy and straight. Without any styling, it tends to form weak S-shaped strands, curling a bit at the ends.

- 2B hair has way more visible and prominent S-shaped curls. It can be slightly frizzy as well, adhering to the shape of your head.

- 2C hair combines wavy and curly hair. It's very frizzy, quickly curls up in humid environments, and has tons of volume and generally thicker waves.

- 3A hair is shiny and great at taking any form you want it to. This type has a very definite S-shape which makes it appear full and healthy.

- 3B type has a smaller curl pattern than 3A, ranging from spiral-like curls to tight corkscrews. It also has a combination texture.

- 3C hair is actually thinner than 3A and 3B but its curls are smaller which makes it appear thicker. Plus, it's very tight, almost to the point of being kinky.

- 4A hair has an S-shaped pattern if you stretch it, but usually it's just tight coils. It tends to be thin, brittle, and fragile.

- 4B hair bends with really sharp angles and often has a Z-shape and zigzag-like curls. Just like 4A, this type is pretty fragile as well.

- And 4C type is the hardest to style and take care of. It doesn't have a definite curl pattern which makes it look awesome but extremely hard to comb.

- Straight and soft hair like yours gets dirty and oily pretty quickly, so try to pick the shampoos that have curative clay as one of the components. It will make your hair stay clean longer.

- If you fall into the second hair group, your hair care should be completely different. Your main task is to make your hair look thick without it looking crazy and messy. Try to look for shampoos and conditioners with a moisturizing effect.

- Curly-haired guys and girls from hair group number 3 have pretty much the same end goal as people with type 2 hair – keeping their curls hydrated.

- And, finally, type 4, it's your turn! Your hair doesn't get oily that easily, so unlike hair type number one, you don't have to wash it that often. The softer your shampoo and conditioner are, the better.

When bad hair days are your everyday reality, it really zaps the fun out of your morning routine. Thankfully, all you need to do to make your hair perfect to use the middle of your hair type and how to operate with it and as your hair guru for the day, I'm here to tell you all about it. Let'S start with a quick backstory in the 90s Andre Walker, one of the most talented hair stylists, who worked with Oprah, Winfrey and Halle. Berry came up with his own hair typing system. It was originally created for his haircare line, but quickly became widely popular. Basically hundret Walker classifies not only one or two but nine different types of hair and it's time to find out which one of them is yours. The best way to do it is to wash your hair comb it gently and let it dry naturally, but since you know your hair better than anybody else, you probably don't need to do any of that. So in the aundre Walker hair typing system, everything comes down to how curly your hair is naturally perfectly straight with no sign of curls, then you're type 1, kinda wavy, but nothing crazy, good, you're, definitely type 2, really curly with a strong s-shaped curl pattern. Type 3 sounds exactly like you and finally tightly curled and kinky hair fall into type 4 category, but wait there's more. Each of those types can be divided into three subtypes a B and C, and here is where the most interesting part starts. Let'S begin with the first type perfectly straight hair, one, a hair is usually not thick at all, and extremely soft and fine. Its biggest advantage is that it naturally looks really shiny. But it's huge drawback is that it quickly becomes oily and dirty 1b hair. On the other hand, is kind of thick and has great volume near the roots, so it looks way more full than one a hair type and one C hair is really thick and has impressive volume. However, it's almost impossible to curl. This type is pretty common among Asian women. Next up is wavy hair, a hair is right in between wavy and straight without any styling. It tends to form weak s-shaped strands curling a bit at the end. It reacts pretty well the styling. It'S not a problem to make it either super straight or really wavy to be hair has way more visible and prominent as shaped curls. It can be slightly frizzy as well adhering to the shape of your head. Finally to see hair combines wavy and curly hair. It'S very frizzy quickly, curls up in humid environments and has tons of volume and generally thicker waves. Now, let's learn more about curly, hair 3a hair is shiny and great at taking any form you wanted to. This type has a very defined S, shape, which makes it appear full and healthy. 3B type has a smaller curl pattern than 3a, ranging from spiral light curls to tight corkscrews. It also has a combination. Texture 3c hair is actually thinner than 3a and 3b, but it's curls are smaller, which makes it appear thicker, plus it's very tight, almost to the point of being kinky. Now that I mentioned kinky hair it's time to explore this last hair category for a hair has an S, shape pattern. If you stretch it, but usually it's just high coils, it tends to be thin, brittle and fragile, 4b hair bends with really sharp angles and often has a Z, shape and zigzag light curls, just like 4a. This type is pretty fragile as well and 4c type. Is the hardest to style and take care of? It doesn't have a definite curl pattern, which makes it look awesome but extremely hard to comb. It also has the greatest shrinkage out of all the types so figure out your hair type, yet good, because I'm about to tell you exactly what you need to do to make your hair look bomb 24/7. As always, let's start with hair group number one. First and foremost, throw all your essential hair oils away. Your hair is already as soft and shiny as it can be. So the only thing you should worry about is volume, especially if you have won a hair type straight and soft hair like yours, get too dirty and oily pretty quickly. So try to pick the shampoos that have curative clay as one of the components it will make. Your hair stay clean longer. Another thing that can make a huge difference is exfoliating your scalp at least once a week. As for the hair styling, the best choice for type 1 hair are Cascade haircuts of any kind. They will make your hair appear, thicker and fuller. The good news is that your strands have nothing against blow dryers, so go for it. However, if you have one a type hair, you probably already know that it usually doesn't stay curled or hold volume for long, and this is a great opportunity to get creative with a feminine braid or a high fashioned ponytail. Now, if you fall into the second hair group, your hair care should be completely different. Your main task is to make your hair look thick without it. Looking crazy and messy try to look for shampoos and conditioners with a moisturizing effect if they also have fruit extracts or herbs as components, grab them and never let go. This is exactly what your hair needs. If you notice your hair getting dry throughout the day, just put a tiny bit of grape or mustard oil near the ends, this trick will make your waves look alive. Your hair drying ritual should also change. Try to leave your hair at least a little bit wet after blow-drying or use cool air. If you don't want it to look too fluffy. The natural approach also applies when choosing the perfect haircut make sure to stay away from dramatic transitions in your hair style. Otherwise, you'll be stuck at home with your straightener every single morning, curly haired, guys and girls from hair group number 3 have pretty much the same end goal as people with type 2 hair keeping their curls hydrated. Your best options are essential oils, though they'll keep the moisture in your strands and prevent them from getting too dry when picking shampoos or conditioners always make sure that they don't have sulphates. These guys will only make your hair fluffy and wild silicone is also your enemy. It basically locks your hair and doesn't allow any moisture in hairdressers actually recommend people with this hair type buy a silk pillow it'll protect your hair from friction. Hair styling rules for type 3 hair are also similar. Try to dry your hair, naturally more often and use cool air. If you need to speed things up, hair straighteners are no good for your hair, either as they make it even more fragile. As for the perfect curly hair hair cut, you have to remember one simple principle: the shorter the hairstyle, the curlier, your hair will be, and don't let your hairdresser wet your hair before cutting it. Curly hair may have a completely different form as it dries. So it's better not to wet it at all and finally type 4. It'S your turn! Your hair doesn't get oily that easily. So, unlike hair type number 1, you don't have to wash it that often, however, this doesn't mean that you shouldn't pick your hair care products wisely. The softer your shampoo and conditioner are the better with a good enough conditioner. You can sometimes even go shampoo free for a day, just wet your hair apply some conditioner rinse it off and let your hair dry believe me, it'll, look fantastic essential oils should be your best friends as well, it's better to apply them to the end as they Are the most fragile on a positive note? Blow-Drying shouldn't be too hard for you cold air 10 to 15 minutes of your time, and it's done just don't forget to do some towel action before that, where your dreamy curls will lose their form. Your best haircut options are shoulder length or the low shoulder length since the shorter, the curlier rule applies to you, too still, no matter what hair type you have, you should always do. Two things take care of it and own it. This way, you'll always look like a million bucks and what's your secret to making your hair luscious. nala simone: The examples for type 3 and 4 are the most inaccurate examples I’ve ever seen

blinking white guy: me: *sees a bright side hair video* bright side: *gets every type 3 and 4 hair wrong* me: “ah, well what did i expect?”

TheVicdub: My hair was between 1C to 2A (70-30) Some times v hard to curl. I used to curl and by the time I reached the venue curls were gone. Other time, very easy to curl and straighten both. When I was in college my hair used to get oily in 2 days. I couldn’t use any conditioner as it made my hair FLAT. No matter how humid the weather they remained looking great. Now sadly after I took steroids for health reasons my hair has become curly like 2C or 3A. What a HUGE SETBACK!!

7SinsInnaDay: Hardest thing about seeing these beautiful 4’s is waiting to grow out the chemical relaxer in my hair right now. The relaxed hair on top of the new growth just makes a textured mess and hits you with unnatural tangles. Going back to my roots, literally

miyukithefoxfurry: *me having no idea what type of curls I have watching this for answers* my questions haven’t been answered. My day is ruined and my disappointment is immeasurable.

ミmink bratz彡: 4C hair, the shrinkage is real!!Edit: my hair has changed A LOT I've transitioned to 4b/4a.

Alicia Marie: My hair is completely different when I’m not using conditioner. I remember it being so frizzy when I was a kid. It flips in or out at the ends (not in a cute beach way). The strands are thin, but I have massive amounts of it. I’m truly considering shaving the back.

Mystic Flo: I love your examples for type 3 hair and I never even thought about essential oils for my ends as Thats truly the only part I have trouble with... just like the model did for this hair type.

Maame Asantewaa: It's the inaccuracy for me at type 3 and 4.

zero: “Believe me itll look fantastic” bro youre setting me up for failure

lil- army21: Caring for 4c hair is like having a second full-time job

MOVED CHANNEL TO SAPPHIRE-SKETCHES116: I’m a 2a!! Loads of people ask me why i don’t style it often but it is a NIGHTMARE!!! if I wear it down for less than an hour it clumps up and becomes a crazy knotty mess!! Very hard to look after but gorgeous if you know what your doing. Pros to my fellow 2a’s!!

Dark Krusher: I have the type 1b hair, I wash and dry but once every few days I'll let the natural oil build up afor a few days then give it a double wash and condition normally... letting the natural oil build up a bit let's my hair revitalize itself from regular damage and makes my hair shine!

Taimy Hernandez: My hairs mixed and its always been a struggle to take care of since idrk what type it is but after doing further research ive come to the conclusion that its 3A-3B

Emelien Veach: My hair is 2C. I got layers last year and now I’m with my straightener just like you said.

Damii: After this video I'm starting to think my hair is 8c.

Pink warrior: So my hair is more of a type 3 when I’m done washing my hair, but honestly it doesn’t stay that way. Anyone know ways I can get it to stay type 3, similar to when I finish washing my hair?

Alriah Gutierrez Fernandez: I'm tanned color yet my type 1c hair is truely beautiful, and I love it

Current: Type 3 now but had type 1& 2 throughout my younger years. Grew out my hair in high school and it became super curly for reason. 3c hair and the curls sometimes look like it just came off a perm press literally perfect tunnels it’s nutty.

R41ph3A7: For 4a-c it was incredibly short and for 4c it's only hard to comb without an afro pick

Supagb: Anyone watching this: do NOT use this as a reference to find out your hair type. It is completely inaccurate.

redi4life2: sorry but the two girls for the “4a” and the “4b” hair type are similar to mine which is actually in the 3’s because they still form “s” shaped curls, and I am pretty sure 4c is much tighter than the girl’s hair that is portrayed here!

Rufay Kindie: I have the 4th one ❤️

Learning Journey 30: i have 4c hair and im not going to lie. it's easy to take care of. let me explain: you can wash it once a month or once every 2 months. styling is a constant thing that save you time and time. i've learned the less manipulation the happier the hair in turn makes you a happy camper.

PurdyBear1: 2c-3a type. I was told by a stylist to wash in shampoo but not condition, then allow to air dry without combing or brushing in anyway, to find your hair type.

Chrissy: For the 4th hair, the most curly and short one. I felt like the discluded it. All they said was: “greatest shrinking, very hard to comb, more to take care of ” all the other hair types got attention. Especially the straight hair :(

-Hoshiko Akari-: My hair is type 2a and it's beetwen middle and long. It's pretty easy to style too.

Sonia Joubert: Wash with moisturizing shampoo every day, and condition with moisturizing conditioner every day. Then air dry. 2A. Sometimes if I'm in the mood, I will put scrunching gel on to give it more waves. People don't realize how difficult this hair type is! So frustrating! All the cute hairstyles is just out of the question, can't have it straight, can't have it curly, have to wash and condition every day just to make it look clean. Best hairstyle for me is short, cause the waves really make the short hair look like I spent hours in the salon!

JR Hudson: The secret to making my hair luscious is not following the advice in this video!

mano Amjad: My hair is straight bit a bit wavy i mine it can flows out and i love it how the way it is everyone should love there hair the way it is it makes you ineqe be happy with it

bella: Who else didn't find their hair type?

I c o n i c B x b y: I’m type 3 and my sister is type 4✨

LadySB: I had 1c long hair when i was a child, it was possible to curl it by using water and then curling it around a round thing and hair drying it.

R: My father and his family have type 3 hair and my mother has wavy hair. I currently have wavy hair. But my hair is slowly getting curlier.

letsgoniah: without doing this thingamajg i always knew my hair was 4c but it was not short and not very long either and from experience from my hair it's not that hard to comb you just have to detangle it properly

Narendra Satapathy: who else has straight from the scalp and curly from the bottom *that's me*

moon light shadow: Is it possible to have several hair types in one head? Sometimes I feel like mine lies between 4A 4B and 4C.

Yoongisuga Minmeowmeow: After all her explanations about hair type, I still can't figure out what type of hair I have

Coke3cake: Perfectly Straight and i love my hair.

BlackHolez: I'm confused on which category my hair falls in. My hair is really wavy, but when I wash my hair and wait for it to dry, its S shaped and curvy. I'm confused . I think I might have type 2 because she said something about dry hair, thats meeeeee

Shalemar Davis: I thin it's subtle things like how as the hairtype gets kinkier, the compliments fizzle out and the "problems" grow exponentially.

Simply Mudblood 💗: 1 third of my hair is 1C and the other thirds are 2B and 2C respectively... A few strands at the bottommost at the back may even be 3A

Rosiegreen6: mine is probably 2A or 1c and it is so easy to curl if I curl it without hairspray the curls still stay but when I braid my hair wet and let it dry it gets wavy when I brush it it gets frizzy a bit

Mr. Nova: I love to keep my hair long but it is soooo hard to do so.....

XXCLXX1997 Regeida: My hair is fine and it naturally Wavy To Straight... Sometimes it curls on its own....

Renée Reid: The type 3 and 4 category examples are so off. Otherwise my hair type would be 5a. Smh talk about erasure.

YxngAbz-_- HD: Wen my hair is short (touching eyebrows) it’s straight 1, as it grows to a medium length (just under eyebrows) it becomes wavy 2b and wen it’s long (near the nose) it turns curly 3c. Can anyone tell me what my hair pattern is or if this is normal

6Tbrowny: I have 3b type of hair and I love it❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

flowerflower 777: for anyone who has type 2 hair ( a, b or c) , i highly advise you to use sea salt water spray or ocean water, if you can get it naturally. Not only will it reduce the risk of dandruff, but it also tightens your curls and enhances your waves. But if you use normal salt and water, it could be very harmful. Also, dont try to use it everyday or every time you shower. For example, you could use it once whenever you shower. try sleeping on a silk pillowcase instead of a cotton one. It would reduce the frizz and less breakage would occur. when it comes to tying your hair, use scrunchies instead of thin rubber bands. if youre drying your hair, try using a microfiber hair towel or a t-shirt, if you dont have such towel. the t shirt would prevent frizz and absorb excess water. use hair milk if you have one. it provides moisture for your hair. lastly, eat fruits and veggies more often. oranges and grapefruits are some fruits that decreases the risk of frizz, and drink water every 2 hours or so. *EDIT*: i hope you try these hacks one day and leave your opinions about it on the comments! Also, rectify me if i have made any mistake or if the suggested tips are incorrect. Have a nice day!!

• fxdedxesthet!c •: I'm pretty much the entire 1 category :D Wish I was the 2 tho My hair is the _slightest_ bit wavy, mostly at the tips.

Lilitje: For all the people who are confused you can have more than one hair type!

Keyla Neves: Guess my hair type is 9h now, crazy

WOLF RAGE: I'm between 2- 3 I'm a male & Keep it short, if I sleep on it a certain way it'll stay that way all day until I add water to it. Should I add oil and keep away from silicone and buy a silk pillowcase??

Janerey Rules: Thanks for the video now I am convinced that my hair is 6Z!

Cheyenne Barnhart: Mine is in-between 2c and 3a, some of my hair curls more than the rest and I cannot figure out how to get all of my hair to do the same thing.

nonkavw: The 4c in this video ain't 4c. Otherwise my hair would be 4z or something

Saraim Gebretsadik: I’m in between 2c and 3b I really don’t know But the very front part of my hair is 4a so it’s so confusing

Sir Stitches: My questions are still not answered. My hair isn’t perfectly straight, but it’s nowhere near wavy. And it’s thick everywhere BUT the roots.

sky plays: Thx for this video now I know the things for my curll

Nourhanna Untong: My hair is 2B/2C, and I rebonded it, and instantly, the roots is growing, and I'm like.... I really want my natural hair back, but my mom doesn't want it, she wanted to rebond my roots again, and I'm a bit tired of it.

ashmii: I have 1A..exactly because though my hair is straight, silky and shiny..it gets bit dirty within few days‍♀️

𝙺𝚛𝚟𝚟𝚎𝚣: 2c prefer straight because it's a way better looking for me but sometimes I like it naturally but there's always lumps at the top

Johis Unix: Lol I have natural wavy curly 2c type hair great vid

TTV SMOLY IS VIBENツ: I have all of them

meikostar 99: with my 4c hair i always braid it because it grows faster and after 2 moths of braiding my hair I style it and then I see that my hair grew like 4 inches

Akosua Agyapong: I have 4c hair and since we are quarantined I don't brush it and I can assume I'm living my best life

Joy _sassy: My hair is 4c but when I blowdry it's 2a but more straight

florylle: my hair is type 3 at the end of it, and 2 at the top

Jay Tnez: I can go from 2B to 3A idk how someone please explain and btw I was born with curly hair but it got cut off and came back as a 2B or 2C and now it gets to 3A sometimes

C. Fendii: It’s a white woman talkin bout 4c hair .. what did y’all expect ?

Curly_headselene: Im definitely 4 its so curly and tangled and I could never straighten it!

Val’s Place: My way to keep my hair wave is by putting avocado with oil, and use eggs on your hair is type 2

Omotayo Sarah: My hair is 4C.. Caring for it is a business on it own

Kazuki King: To be honest mine are type 1 and 2 and a part is 3

A.N.: *says 3b hair* *shows 2b-2c hair* *says 3c hair* *shows 3a hair* people watch this for knowledge

Anne: My mom has super curly hair, here I'm dying for wavy hair -

𝗟𝗔𝗥𝗔: My hair is 3b & it’s sooo pretty I love them

blissful thoughts: I'm none of these lol. I have wavy hair that gets kinda frizzy. its thick and shiny, but it gets straighter and less frizzy when I dont wash it. if anyone knows what type I hv, please let me know!

omar elamraniii: My hair is naturally super straight and soft but i really like Wavy hair

T Love: WROOOOOONG!! The 3 and 4 categories were ALL wrong. You used 2C hair and called every type of 3 hair. Then you called 3C and 4A hair every type of 4 hair. Please see actual black people when typing our hair. Andre Walker did it correctly. You did not. With love. ❤️

CcreepyPxxdle: I have a mixture of type 3 and 4 hair

EUDORA: Leaving straight hair,my hair is a mixture of all the curls

Joshua Rodriguez: Mine is naturally 2c.. every kid with straight hair in my school got perms lol

Jiya's Epic World: I have my favorite 2A hair type ❤

mima ropa: I don't know my hair type. My hair strands can range from 1A-3A.. I averaged it and I guess I'm 2B

hello: my hair isnt wavy, ITS FRIZZY!!

Fluke: I’m definitely a 4C

MEI: I just brush my hair and it becomes fluffy and healthy

KS V: I am very clear that I am hair #3 , but don’t know which subdivision my hair belongs to Like my comment if u guys have the same confusion too

Gregory Harris: Didn’t know I had 4c till I grew my hair out

Victória Davyes: All African people know this is not exactly accurate

Zoe Visagie: My hair type is mixed between these the types>3B,3C and 4A

✧.*.•.° Lovely: 4a and I'm keeping my hair long ✋

Daki: I have question tho is there an option between type 2 and 3? Because my hair is confusing like I don't get if it's either 2 or 3 me and my friend have been trying to know but we still don't know

ok: my hair is naturally VERY curly, but my hair is so long and thick it ways it down. so i have wavy but straight hair

Carla Banks-Williams: One other thing that really makes a difference on the hair types is whether or not they are open or closed cuticle. It makes a difference in the way the hair absorbs moisture, nutrients, product, humidity. If you can find a video or article to link to this video, I think that would be an awesome idea! It really is a game-changer.
