Hi, everyone welcome to hear me out, i'm caroline, the alopecian and trickster aka, the girl with a lot of bald spots, and today i'm going to be talking to you guys about surprise extensions, as you may have guessed from watching my previous videos about clip-in extensions and Halo extensions - i am someone who loves to wear extensions and i'm also someone who deals with severe hair loss, and so i think a common misconception about extensions is that you can't wear them if you have pretty bad hair loss, but you can get away with wearing Them, depending on what level of hair loss you have, and it might actually surprise you, but i'm able to get away with with my extensions. So i have tried a couple of different types of semi-permanent extensions out: fusion, wefts and eye tip extensions, and what i'm wearing right now is eye tip extensions. They are my absolute favorite, and so today i'm going to be showing you um the install process, as well as the move up process which is kind of the maintenance that has to get done every couple of weeks and i'm also just going to be talking a Little bit about what i love about semi permanent extensions, what they allow me to do on a daily basis, what makes them different from other types of extensions and wigs and maybe you'll, find by the end of this video that you might want to get some. So, stick around. I have a lot of material to cover. Also before i get started, i just want to mention. I'Ve just recently launched a podcast and i'm going to link that below, along with my social media links, you should totally check it out and while i have you here, if you wouldn't mind giving me a little bit of a like and subscribe, that would be great. Okay, let's jump in so as you can see. When i got these extensions installed, i had very thin hair and hair of many many different lengths because of bald spots growing in at different times, and some of them are very short, but that's okay, because this system is actually very small. So i like to think of each piece of extension as a shoelace with an aglet at the end, instead of an anglet holding together the pieces of thread and a shoelace, it's holding a little bundle of hair and then it's clasped to your own hair. With a small, copper bead, and so what you're seeing here is my hair stylist is taking small sections of my own hair and then she's going to put the copper bead over top of a small section of my hair and then she's sliding that aglet right into Place and then, with a pair of pliers or some better hair technical term. She is then tightening that bead, so that extension piece is not going anywhere. When i was first looking into getting extensions, i really didn't want to get them done. I didn't even want to go see anyone about getting them done, because i didn't think i had enough hair. I was dealing with hair loss of the same magnitude that had caused me to buy a wig in high school because there just wasn't anything. I could do really to cover it up and you know: clip-in extensions were hurting my hair and i was about to go study abroad for five months and i knew i'd be living with someone i didn't know. I didn't want to have to wear a wig, but i felt like that was probably what i was going to have to do, because i didn't want anyone to know about my hair loss. But ultimately my mom talked me into going to get a consultation and sure enough. I did have enough hair um shockingly, because i really barely had any hair on my head, but i got fusion extensions which is similar to these eye tip extensions. However, they are glued to your hair, it's not as damaging as it sounds, and it lasts about three to four months, though i left mine in for five months, regrettably um anyway, i did not think i would have enough hair for these extensions to glue onto, but I did and not only that, but the the second i finished getting them installed. I started crying. I never thought that i would get to the point in my life where i would have a full head of hair. You know growing up with alopecia and trichotillomania you're. Always having patches of hair fall out and grow in at different paces and in different cycles of growth. So you have lots of different lengths of hair. And finally, all of my hair was the same length and it was pretty long and it was full and it was the colors i wanted. It was just really really exciting and that's why i have just stuck with extensions ever since then, because i love that feeling side note. According to the world wide web, you only need 2.5 inches of hair in order to get these eye tip extensions and in order to get the fusion ones, you only need two inches of hair. So if you are completely bald right now, but you're able to grow some hair and you're growing it at the average pace of a half inch per month, it'll only take you a few months before you're able to get extensions put into your hair anyway. I love the feeling of being able to wake up in the morning and not having to do anything. The hair that you saw in the intro to this video was my extension here, just drying. Naturally, i'm pretty lazy when it comes to my hair, which is also you know, something that goes into being. A person that likes to wear extensions is because you really don't have to do much to them. You can style them. However, you want you can use as much heat on them as you want or don't want to. But if you want to be lazy you can you can shower in them. You can swim in them, but don't swim in a chlorine pool in them or they might turn red like mine, did one time um. But that's what i love so much about these extensions is you can just be a girl on the go, do whatever you normally? Would do and you don't have to worry about any hair falling out or you know you could sleep over at a friend's house. You don't have to worry about taking off your wig at night or unclipping. Your extensions and you're not damaging your hair in the process. So that's what i have just loved so much about wearing extensions, and i don't think that wigs can really compete when it comes to the versatility of what extensions can do now. There are other types of extensions as well. I'Ve had like, i said, the fusion kind of extension that glues to your hair and then i've also had the weft extensions which go across your hair and they use the same bead. But it only clips to just a few points on your head and in different layers um, but you can't wear that type of extension up in a ponytail and so that's why getting the eye tip extensions like i'm getting in this video? That'S my favorite thing because i really love wearing my hair up and that's one of my least favorite things about having hair loss is that you often don't have enough hair to put up into a high pony. You can't really put a wig into a high pony unless it's 360 lace and that's difficult. So this allows me to do that and it's pretty easy to disguise the beads. If you want to i'm again lazy, so i don't always disguise them, but yeah. The versatility of what you can do with this type of extension hair. It'S truly amazing! You can just treat it like you would your own hair. However, there are some things that you need to do to take care of it, this hair, when you buy it, it's supposed to last. You know nine months to about two years. I believe, but it's completely dependent about how you decide to take care of it. So some things i do to prolong the longevity of my extension hair is i sleep every night with a braid in my hair, just a loose braid, nothing uncomfortable and that prevents tangling uh. The other thing is that, like wig hair, this hair is not growing out of your head, and so it is not getting the same oils that your normal bio hair usually gets. So it's prone to drying out a lot quicker, but there are quick fixes for that. My favorite conditioner to use on this hair is oi conditioner, that's, oh i and it's about 30 or 40 dollars. So it's pretty expensive conditioner, but a little bit goes a long way and it has saved my extensions yeah and then the last thing that you definitely have to do with this type of extension. Is you have to get it moved up every four to six weeks and that's because, as your hair grows out, the bead moves, along with it, which increases the risk of the bead falling out of your hair and losing the extensions. It also just kind of looks. Wonky and it's not good for your bio hair or the extension hair, so every four to six weeks you get that moved up at the salon. Sometimes i stretch it out to seven weeks. I know i'm not supposed to do that, but you know you got to do what you got to do and, and that just makes it look really nice for longer and it extends the life of your extension here. And finally, i just want to add that i have had extensions now for a number of years on and off, and i have not seen any damage to my bio hair, even with both hair loss disorders that i have. If anything, it's actually helped with growth, because i haven't been able to pull at my hair as much when there are beads attached to my scalp. So no, it is not damaging to your hair and i mean come on. Look at how fabulous it doesn't get any better than that, of course, wigs are also a fabulous option. Other extensions are great. The pros and cons certainly need to be weighed, but check out this look. It is one of a kind if you made it this far. Thank you so much and congratulations, and if you have any questions about anything i talked about here today or anything in general, you can find me on instagram hear me out 43 and i also have a website. It'S hair dash me out dot com and i look forward to seeing you next time thanks. Everyone

clipinqueen: Great video. I just wanted to note that I wear a lot of extensions also (do them myself) and you definitely CAN wear beaded wefts in a ponytail. They specifically are installed in a u-shape just so you can put them up. If you weren't able to, then your stylist put them in wrong. I also want to mention that the move up of your I-tip extensions was a bit concerning. She did not brush out the hair or replace the beads, which is what a proper move up entails. Thanks again.

Chevie Carter: Thank you SO much for posting this video!! I needed this more than I can express, and you are so brave for being open on your struggles... I totally relate I recently had a hair consult to get itips and even after consult, I was nervous they would not work and be out $$$ I don't have to put towards hair lol. Thank you again, I'm glad I've got an apt coming up and CAN'T WAIT

Isabella: Check the videos about glue in hair weft I glue hair on my scalp and that might help you at the time you have big bald spots ❤️
