That'S a trip i'm gon na have to pass on nostalgia is having a major moment, we're seeing all the looks from y2k resurface, but with a more modern twist, especially when it comes to prom. Yeah prom is major to bring these looks to life. We tapped matrix artist sharon spellman to create a y2k inspired prom, look hi, hair.com team. Let'S be honest. One of the most exciting parts about going to prom is getting ready if we've seen anything with the trends. Lately it's what goes around comes around, but with more of a modern twist today i'll be showing you two y2k inspired hairstyles that are trendy, yet modern. Let'S get started so for step, one you're going to want to part out your front pieces. These are going to be the pieces. I want hanging out in the front. You want to find the arch of your eyebrow and take a section all the way to the back of your head. I like to go down to the back of my head and create a line. So now we have an even section throughout. So all you need is a little elastic, put that little baby into a pony and then just squeeze down. So, as you can see, i just did the exact same thing to the other side, and you see how even everything is you're going to want to make sure you have quite a few elastic bands, because we are going to be creating little bubbles all the way Down, okay, so there's number one tell me: this: isn't 90s baby boom, so i went ahead and did the same exact thing to the other side. You'Re just gon na take your section and just kind of tug a little bit keeping in mind. We want everything to be very even cute, so i have these cute little butterfly clips that i'm gon na apply to each bubble. I'M gon na put my first one at the top. I'M gon na put it on the bubble, and you see how easy this is. Oh, my gosh look at this. Ah so cute, okay, so we're just about done. Take some flexible hold hairspray, and this one is from matrix. You can also find it on hair.com, so check it out and i'm just going to give myself a nice little spray. So when i'm dancing, i don't want anything moving and look how adorable for this next style, i'm going to show you my version of the 2000s gel scrunch curl, so i went ahead and already towel dried, my hair just a little bit. You also want to have a handy dandy spray bottle to make sure you're keeping your hair as wet as possible without dripping you're going to want to start with a detangler, i'm going to use miracle creator by matrix and what's great about this - is it's also a Heat protectant, so when we do some of the diffusing it's all protected baby, so i'm just going to go ahead and spray this throughout nothing crazy and then i'm going to use my brush and i'm never going to brush down because then the whole scrunchie curl is Just going to weigh down just brush outward and just get your hair a little bit wet in the places that it needs to be more wet, we're going to use some mousse. This one is again from matrix. It'S high amplify, very volumizing. Let'S get it going for me, i like to use like a medium amount. I like to use the amount. If i were to grab my hair. That'S the amount i want to use so about that much that's a little hair hack for you and i'm just going to apply it in there just like so pulling outward, never down i'm going to go in with a moisturizing curl cream. Again, i'm really sticking with a curl can dream line from matrix, so i'm going to take about this much but again, i'm just going throughout making sure i'm getting my roots and pulling outward so once you have your moisturizing cream all throughout we're going to brush it Through i'm going to be going in vertically, i'm leaving a lot of tension, and i'm pulling outward because now by doing this, we're allowing all the product to create that curl, then we're going to apply some gel and then the scrunching comes in. So i already went ahead and defined each of my curls, but i left the front out, so i could show you i'm just going to brush really keeping that tension and then letting it set. And for me, i'm not really looking for, like a defined part. Just like a slight one, so that's why i'm bringing everything forward the way i am because i want it to flow tension kind of curling. I'M using my fingers a little bit here is the fun part, our gel. I am going to use my acrylic and dream gel so you're going to grab your gel. You can see. I took a pretty good amount. Take your gel and just very softly, just kind of create your pattern. So i'm kind of just going to let my curls go where they want to go quick tip. Once you've brought your head back to normal use, a little bit more gel scrunch hold hold hold. Let go okay, so just like the scrunch, how you kind of went in scrunch and you held same way with the diffuser you're gon na want to put it in gently and just hold it there. Okay, so i just finished diffusing, i'm really really loving what i'm seeing, but what i'm gon na do to just kind of spice. This look up a little bit is i'm just gon na grab a little bit of hair right here and i am just going to add in my little butterfly clip and voila. What are we doing here? Look at this wow and that's it. A super simple trendy, hairstyle for prom or any event you might have coming up. Okay, so one of the biggest hair trends we're seeing is hair half up and have to own. This is up seven times year over year, making it one of the biggest prom hair styles this year, wow. I am loving these styles and definitely seeing some inspo from one of my favorite shows. Oh yes, so whether you are more of a maddie or a cassie, their looks are taking over pinterest. So the search term euphoria hairstyles are up 18 times the search. Euphoria, glitter makeup is up four times and the ever so popular acrylic nails are up 22x. So when you see, trends like this from your favorite shows pinterest is the place to come and figure out how to bring them to life. I'M loving these ideas. What else are we seeing so braids are having a major moment too, and braided prom hair is up five times so many options, yes and what's so great, is that we have a search feature that lets you search by your hair texture. So if you search for prom hair ideas, you can tell pinterest if you have protective coily, curly, wavy straight or even a shaved head wow. That makes things so much easier and just so much more personalized. Exactly all you have to do is search for hairstyles on pinterest and the filters will appear. I can't wait to check this out. So what else are we seeing? Okay, updo ponytails are also huge. Prom hair updo ponytail is up 6x and we've definitely seen. This look. Show up on the red carpet and we're expecting it to have a major moment in prom. These are really fun and just simple and classic too well. Welcome back madison what magic are you working this time so for this look we're going to show you how to create that perfect ponytail on our beautiful model and hair.com team member christian. We can't wait to see what you come up with we'll let you get started so to create this super sleek ponytail, i'm actually going to section the hair into three main sections. The first section will be from one ear to the other ear and underneath you're going to use some hairspray and a brush to comb the hair and get a really sleek smooth finish and then gather that hair into the first ponytail. The second section, you'll section out a triangle at the top of the head and clip that out of the way so now that hair, that is in between the two sections, will go into your second ponytail. You want to repeat with the hairspray and the brush until you get a really smooth finish and then go ahead and secure that ponytail right on top of the previous one. Now, for that third and final section, this is where you can decide if you want to have a parting in the hair. So here we left a center part and you can see i'm working on the left side and the right side separately. Spraying, the hair with a hairspray brushing it to get it super smooth and holding it on top of both ponytails that i already created, i'm going to hit it with a blow dryer just to cool the hairspray and make sure that it's set and the hairspray is Dry once the hairspray is all dry i'll, go ahead and secure that final ponytail. On top of the previous two, with one more elastic now that we have three elastics holding this ponytail together, we know that it is not going anywhere and you can dance all night at prom, while madison continues to put the finishing touches on this. Look, let's get into a trending color technique, we're seeing in all of our favorite salons color melting. Yes, we are seeing so much of this on social to break this down. For us, let's bring in matrix artist, patti rodriguez hi. My name is patti roger you guys matrix level artist and matrix bilingual educator, i'm from milwaukee wisconsin and i specialize in all things, fabulous, hair, color and fabulous hair styling. I'M super excited to be here today and discuss with you an amazing color technique called hair melting. If you're looking for a low maintenance look this spring, this is definitely the service for you. I'M going to talk you through the amazing benefits of hair color melting and how to ask for it, and if you are the right client for this type of look, hair, melting or color melting, there are different ways of referring to this type of technique. It'S pretty much a soft blended, diffused, look, it can be used for blondes, brunettes, redheads vivid shades, pretty much any type of hair color. Hair melting is a great for low maintenance, looks and for looks that won't have a harsh grow. Another great thing about hair melting is that can be adapted to any current hair color. So it is something that you can transition into easily hair melting is different than other color techniques such as balayage or ombre. So once we put that ponytail into place, what we used was um the l'oreal professional steam pod to go ahead and smooth that ponytail in small sections, moving down the hair of the ponytail and just curving it toward myself up towards the ceiling to give that flip. In the ponytail, so that's how you've got that beautiful, beautiful kind of 90s inspired flip at the bottom, so we also saw you do a very cool trick with this. Yes, can i show you? Yes, okay, so i love using my can as a tool. So what i did is spray the hair um down and you want to make sure you're spraying in the direction that you want the hair to lay and then i use the can to roll and encourage that flip in the hair. I love that, like hot rollers, even if you don't have a house exactly exactly and if you do want it still warm from that steam pad it's going to help set that curl in for you amazing yeah.
