What'S up beauties welcome to my channel holy hair today in this video, i am going to be giving away all of my secrets on how i do hand-tied extensions. Now i am completely self-taught. I did not get a certification. I did not take a class just so you guys know that, ahead of time before you watch how i do this i've just kind of taught myself different ways of sewing in the hair, and this is the method that is the least damaging on the hair and Also, i have found that this method holds up the best in the client's hair. So i'm really excited to share these secrets with you guys, because if you search youtube, no one gives away like the actual details which is so frustrating to me, because i just feel like there shouldn't be any secrets in this industry and if you want to be Self-Taught in something that's okay, teach yourself how to do it like most techniques and most things that i do at the salon. I have taught myself on my youtube channel. I have taught myself how to film and edit and all of that good stuff. So i think, there's nothing wrong with being self-taught. If you don't have the money to spend on. You know a thousand dollar certification to do hand tied just teach yourself. It'S not that hard. To be honest, if you're a hair stylist - and you know how to do hair, this is not rocket. Science like they make. It seem like it's the hardest thing in the world. Just follow my instructions in this video and you will know how to do hand tied extensions. Let'S go, let's go so we've got her highlights all done, and now i'm going to go on and put her extensions in. So what you're going to need for the extensions is going to be the hair and what we have for her hair this uh. This is the hand-tied weft. So it's a thinner, as you can see, there's two of them. So it's a very thin weft, there's also machine wefts, which are thicker but for her hair. We'Re just going to do hand tied - and i am using two wefts and we're going to tie these together. All in one row on her hair and then you're going to need just a few other tools, beads that you're going to clip in and then you want to have the sewing yarn and then a sewing needle, and you want to get these curved and i can Link, i actually got these on amazon. I will link them down below this tool that you're going to use to thread the beads on the hair and then you'll need this pair of pliers. That'S going to clamp down the beads as well, and i got this tool kit from jay-z styles. I did not get certified by her, but i did buy her hand-tied tool kit. It comes with pretty much everything you need: minus the beads and the yarn, although i did order those from her, they were just sold separately. So i'm going to get everything set up. I'M going to show you guys how i set up my yarn, so i'm using this color yarn. I know that her hair is blonde, but um. This yarn matches really well because her roots are darker, so this is almost like an in between color um. That matches really well so i'm gon na do three wingspans, like stretch it out through your whole arms. I'M gon na do three of them. So it's going to be pretty long. We are going to thread this through the needle and then you want to make sure it's completely in half, so just let the needle drop onto the ground and then get it to where it's all the way to the end and then the end of your string. You are going to tie that into a knot and, as you can see, i'm gon na be doubling up the string. So that's why i took as much as i did and we just don't want to run out of string. So that's why i took a bunch of strings, so this is probably way too long and i'll probably have a bunch of extra, but it's totally fine, because you'd rather have extra than not enough, and we can always. You can always like, feel it out. The next time you do it and you may not need as much and then i'm going to take another needle and i'm just going to take with this one one wingspan and then this one we're going to thread through. But it's not going to be double strung. So you just want to tie the end of this one just like that. So you just have a single string and then you'll have a double string. So once you get that all set up now, i'm going to part her hair and get it ready to be sewn. So i'm just going to take my rat tail comb and we're going to do a horseshoe section around her whole head. Okay. So this is going to be her horseshoe section. It'S gon na come from. You know her temple here and go all the way down and around her head to the other side, and you want this to be a very clean section so to make it super clean. I um, you know spritzed a little bit of water so that her flyaways would stay up, and then you want to make sure that the section is at least two fingers. This is about three fingers above her ear, so that's just going to give it room to grow out and not get in the way of her ear. I'M going to measure the extensions on her head and i'm going to mark each end and i'm going to use these little pin curl clips, take it and put it up to her head and make sure that it's even on both sides and then can you hold These julie, so you can have your client hold them and then what i do is i will mark them. So at the beginning of this, one is right here and then do the same thing. On the other side, all right you can let go, and then what that's going to, let us know is where to start and end our beads, because we're going to do the beads first and then we're going to sew the hair in. So i'm starting with my beads, you want to string the beads onto your little tool here now, like i said i am self-taught, but i do use a brand of hair extension tools that i will link below for you guys she has a youtube channel um and Her brand is called jay-z styles and she's awesome and she does a lot of hand-tied extensions. I didn't take her class, but i did buy her products, so i bought her um extension tool kit and her beads and the yarn as well is all from her site. So what we're going to do is we are going to start with the beads, but we're also going to string your single string, so the one that you only did single we're going to string the single string through the bead as well. So i'm going to show you exactly how i do that to hold your uh yarn. You can stick it in the top little bun. If you want so i like to use my rat tail comb. So i just kind of scooped and i went down a little bit. This is where our first bead is going to go. So we're going to string this through our tool and then you're going to pull the bead through and after you get the bead pulled through. You want to pull the yarn through so you're, going to string it through with the needle and on this first one we're going to tie it so when it gets close to the end, we are going to tie this one. This is going to be the only one that you're going to tie and you're just going to tie a regular knot on here. So we just did one knot here: i'm going to take the tulle, put it up to her scalp, but not too close and then clamp it down and then after we get that clamped. I am going to double knot this and it's just easier to get it tight and double knot it after i've already clamped the bead. That'S our first bead and i'm gon na take another little section. Grab my beading tool, pull the hair through pull the bead through or pull the hair through the bead and then take your string and string it through. You want to make sure that the string is tight, not too tight, but you want to make sure that it's tight enough to where you don't want a gap in between. So you don't want the string hanging down in between sections foreign run. So so, as you can see, i'm getting close to her clip here. So i'm just going to do two more two more beads and you want to make sure that you have a little bit of tension when you're pulling it through the bead, because you don't want to have not enough hair in the bead. You want to have a little bit of tension just like that, but not too much tension, because you don't want too much and you don't want too little then on this last one you're gon na tie another knot, so i'm just gon na go through here and Up through there and that will make a knot, okay just make sure the knot is tight, and then you can cut this string all right, so this step is done, and so this is what her row is. Gon na look like before we sew the hair. What i'm gon na do is i'm gon na take her hair, and this is both of her wefts. We have two wefts together and we're doing the same color. Sometimes you can do two different colors if you'd like, but we're doing all the same color and what we are going to sew the hair to is the strings in between her beads here. So we're not actually sewing this to her hair and this is going to be less damaging for the client's hair. So what i'm going to do is line it up and have your client hold it real, quick outside and i'm going to pin it down here so that it doesn't get in the way of the sewing. So i want you guys to see how this is pinned. So i'm going to be sewing it to the string there. Okay! So then, i'm going to take my double string that i already have done, and it's just nice to kind of get this out of the way and already have it done so when you get to this point, you're not like stringing, the needle and all that stuff, You can just get right to sewing if you don't know how to sew. I'M going to show you how to how to sew. So when you start you're, just gon na make sure you get the um string in here and then you're stringing it underneath the sewn pieces on top here, so you're stringing it underneath there okay and then what do you call it for your first sew, your first Stitch, thank you so, for your first stitch, what you're going to do remember how we made a knot on the end of here you're, going to string that, through this is going to secure the end and you're just gon na run it all the way through that And secure it nice and tight up at her scalp and when you're securing these, you want to pull upwards on the string. Okay and i kind of start in the middle here, so that i can do one or two more stitches on the end. And then i go into sewing the rest, so i think i'm just going to do one more stitch on the end here and then, when you're sewing, you want to make a knot with the thread. Okay, so it's just as simple as making a knot and then pull it tight up top. So you want to make sure the end is nice and flat nice and secure, and that looks nice, and these are just it's just the end piece and then we're going to continue down her head. So what i'm going to do is i'm going to do about three stitches in between every bead and then when you're pulling this through. You just want to make sure it's going in between the two strings like that, and you don't want to leave too much space in between your stitches, because that leaves space for it to create a gap or something like that. And then i'm going to go around the bead, so i'm moving on to the next bead. The bead is right here and i'm going to go just past the bead and i'm going to string it underneath the string and through the weft and tighten and then there's our third bead there. So i'm just going to go right past the bead under and so, and i am just going to repeat this around her whole head and then i'll show you guys how i secure the end of the sewing. So we're coming to the end of her hair here and we are just going to secure this on the end, so i have a couple more stitches. I'M going to do so, i'm going to show you guys how i secure the end, so you want to just make sure you're getting this corner nice and good so that it lays flat okay. So all all i'm simply going to do is just cut the string and then we're going to take these two strings and i am going to tie it in a knot and i'm going to triple knot it. So we make sure that it is nice and tight on the end here and that is going to secure all of your sewing and then make sure there's no hair in it and you can trim the end off and then we're all good. You can take your clips out foreign. I hope you guys enjoyed this video and took away some awesome tips like i said i am self-taught and i am not certified by anything, but i did order my products and um supplies for hand-tied extensions through jay-z styles. Her website, i will link it down below where i got my tools for hand-tied extensions. It is important you do need tools for this um and then the needles, the curved sewing needles. I got on amazon, so i will also link that below and it came in like a pack of 10, which was so great so yeah. I hope you guys learned how to do hand tied you know you can always pause this video rewind, it re-watch it or even watch this video, while you're doing it on your client um. That would be helpful too. Like pick a friend that you want to practice on, i would definitely say like um, you know you don't just want to like charge a ton of money for this when you're doing it the first time you probably want to do it for free. That'S why i say: do it on a friend so yeah i what i did the first time when i did hand-tied extensions and when i was practicing on people i had my clients pay for the hair and i just straight up told them that i didn't really Know what i was doing and that i was practicing and self-teaching myself, and i only did it for like really good clients that i'm, like friends with so that um they weren't like upset if it like slipped out or whatever, but um yeah. This client that i had here she was the first client that i ever did hand-tied extensions on. I heard extensions were in for nine weeks. They grew out. She never had an issue when i took them out. There was no breakage, no balding spots, no issues, so i know that this is a good method and i know that this is gon na work for you guys, and that is why i am sharing it today. Don'T forget to hit that subscribe. Button. Give this video a like, save it in your files, so that you have this um to refer back to, and i will see you guys in the next one: let's go: let's meet, let's hit, let's go: let's go!

Lorita Moore: You are absolutely right. There's nothing wrong with self taught. In my opinion, self taught is better than a being taught. If you learned something without taking a class or going to school, you're talented, you gifted! Awesome job!

Cloe Webster: You’re amazing! Everyone wants to overcharge for a “certification” for this method. Super frustrating. I’m so glad I found your video before I went and threw a grand away on this. I knew it couldn’t be that hard. Thank you so much!

Shannon McMillan: What you spoke on, about being self taught and how it seems like people really don’t share the fundamentals freely on YouTube. I’m self taught in many things, candle making, embroidery/crochet, acrylic nails and it’s a method of learning that is really looked down upon! It’s so upsetting! So thank you so so much for this video, all you videos actually. I appreciate all the effort you put into this. You’re the best mama!

clipinqueen: Thanks for being a brave extensionist and sharing your secrets and expertise. Great detail and the closeups are excellent. Would love to see more like this!

Iratxie Garcia: Just want to say I feel so validated by your intro. I've been a licensed stylist for 6 years and just went off on my own from a corp salon less than a year ago and have been wanting to offer extensions but don't have the funds at the moment to invest in a certification. So thank you for this!

Leslie Gutierrez: Can you please do a video of how to move them up?! Loved this video super informative, thank you❤️❤️❤️!!

Kapreecia Luxe: I'm gon tell you this, you did a really great Job with this tutorial sis. You did that!

Ale Reyes: Took two classes and got two certificates, my mom sews clothes and we watched this video to simplify it for me since I never sewn anything in my life! Thanks a lot!

Tabitha Hill: I have watched so many videos on how to do this and yours is by far the best. I can actually see what you're doing and you go into detail about what you're doing and why. Thank you for making this video

dina reut: Wish I saw this a months ago! Learned more in this than the online class I bought

Christina A. Dunbar: Thank you for the Tutorial. It was a great refresher for me, as being a Professional Licensed Master Educator and Cosmetologist for over 34 years!

Kara Rodgers: Excellent video, love the details and closeups, thank you!! This is a great refresher for me as I was trained a couple years ago and am finally getting back into extensions now that I’ve got the clientele for it (I’m a licensed hairstylist). However, If I may, just a couple little notes that might help… When starting and ending on the bead section, leave a long end for the string. You’ll want to use this to tie to a second set of long ends after seeing in the weft section of hair, that way you can marry both the bottom bead string and the top hair weft strings together. (Hopefully that made sense!!) Also, this method allows you to only need to use one layer of string for the hair weft string instead of doubling up the string, which would be helpful for clients with thinner hair where they don’t want as much bulk on their scalp. Secondly, and this is a big one, when you’re placing your beads, just before clamping, don’t allow the bead to stick out from the scalp. Using your pliers, angle down so the flat side of the bead is at the same angle of the head going downward. This way your extensions will lay flat on the head instead of lifting away from the head. Hope that helps, and thanks again for this video!!

K C: Thank you so much!! This tutorial was awesome! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us. I’m subscribed now! Look forward to a move up video but I’d love an extensions long layered haircut video more than anything. The perfect beachwave look is everything! ❤️

debbie G: I have watched lots of tutorials and the sewing looks so messy! Like you can see the thread from the outside, etc. Yours is perfect!

Michelle Escobar: THANK YOU! not a lot of people are willing to show their own techniques!

Hylynly Luansing: Omg I’ve been trying to self teach this method through YouTube because exactly what you were saying i don’t have the means to and I feel like I can teach myself! Thankyou for sharing your knowledge & tips! Happy to be subscribing to your channel & watching more vids!

Briana Esquer: Thank you so much for this , as a beginning Stylist this has helped me a lot ! ✨ I also had a question to ask for your suggestion when to do more than 1 row or only do 1 row on your client

RachDolly11:11: I'm so excited to do this! My friend and I are in cosmetology school and are going to do this on eachother. Thank you!!!!

Jennifer Stow: Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I’m self teaching as well, and learning from you! ☺️ I’m having a hard time knowing how much hair someone will need. Do you just keep extra hair in stock in case you need more to make it blend?

Jeremiah Sanadion: Your so awesome and a great cheerleader! Thank you. So adorable

Drea: Your knowledge has helped me tremendously with doing my own extensions during these crazy times! Thank you so so very much for making this very informative video and I look forward to more of your videos! ☺️✨

Makenzie Speirs: Thank you so much! As a baby stylist I've been wanting to get certified and extensions but haven't had the thousands of extra dollars to get certified! I swear I am mostly self-taught because beauty School didn't teach me anything, I'll just add this to my list of everything I taught myself!

Tabitha Lister: loved the video, the only suggestion is to make sure that the beads are far enough away from the scalp to lay flat before you clamp them, they will be more comfortable and easier to move the hair and style it later with out the common first few days of adjustment to the extensions hurting on the head.

Bella Nicole: I absolutely LOVE YOU for this! sharing your knowledge and it came out amazing! Thank you so much

Evelyn MONTEZ: This is amazing! I had no clue how extensions were put in! Thank you!

dm6565: Excellent video. So nice that people share their knowledge. Bless you. I'd like to make some short wefts from my own hair and use them up front where hair is thin. Don't think beads would work, but you definitely inspired me about the sewing in. Thank you so much!

Summer Werner: Thank you so much for this ! What kind of extensions did you use ? (I might have missed it if you said )

Sam: You’re my new favorite stylist youtuber from one stylist to another I admire your genuine attitude! ☺️

Jill S: Thank you so much I actually took a course but looked online for a refresher and this was honestly more helpful than the class!

robert björnesjö: Nice to see a real in deph totourial on this technic. I Will try it out for a friend and then hopefully offer it for my clients later on

micheleiams4: Omg! I absolutely love you!! I’ve self taught myself as well! I am a firm believer in sharing”secrets” there is abundance out there… no reason to hold on or hold back anything!!!

Xahvia Braun: Very neat work & beautiful results! May I suggest a tip? Apply color after hair is in place. This ensures a perfect match in all over color tone. Plus add shadow roots on new hair to blend gradually at scalp. If wind blows or hair is up, extensions won't be noticed. Best wishes, positive vibes & abundant Blessings!

JC JC: Great video, I’ve been doing weaves for clients for years this looks pretty good. I’m not sure if it’s any less damaging over time than anything else pulling on the hair root but it looks comparable to the least damaging braiding. I’d be interested in doing a comparison over time with braiding and hand tied. The NBR extension method looks interesting as well

Katie Grube: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! I’ve been wanting to learn hand tied for awhile but nowhere near me offers classes and they are so expensive and you can’t find many helpful tutorials. I have a client that I’m going to try this technique on and I’m so excited. Thank you for this thorough tutorial!

Angie Grimes: Great video well explained and so good to finally see someone sharing the whole process. I dont offer this method to my clients but I reckon I could after some practice and model runs. Although I will eventually do my training I am already qualified in 8 other methods !

D: Thanks so much! Great job! I had it done where the lady made a tiny braid across my head and sewed the weft onto the braid. I like this way better.

Summer Werner: Thank you so much for this ! What kind of extensions did you use ? (I might have missed it if you said )

Gabriella Greer-Benedict: This is a great tutorial!!! You showed us from start to finish and very thorough!!! Thank you

Sherry Mesa: why not enhance your service with a certification? beautiful job! I'm sure it would only make you a stronger artist

Sarah Leabeater: Thank you so much for this video!!! I recently switched hair dressers and my hair dresser now is going to try this method to put mine back in!! You are a life saver!!

Mary Sukumari: Loved to watch your hard work and so much of patience and keen on every step of it to finish !! Wish you all success ❤️

Michelle Fultz: Yesss! I so so so appreciate you thank you so much

Veronica Chavez: Thank you! I love your content! Although you are giving away tips, and we can try at home, I’ve tried, it doesn’t come out as nice, but I will save a bit so I can have it nicely done!

The_beauty.junkie: This was absolutely fantastic! Thank you for this!!

Y Dh: That was awesome!! I always wondered how they did that!!

Milan Frusone: you're absolutely so special! thanks for your detailed sharing, God bless you back!

Kristen Costello: The corners on my top row always seem to come undone on one side or the other especially if I snag it with a brush. This taught me how to use my emergency tools to tie them down until my next hair appt. Great tutorial thanks so much!!

Pearl S: Thank you! My sister got extensions to sew in, and the were falling way loose two days later. She's asked me to fix them because (this is funny) I like to sew. But I didn't know what kind of stich to use or where to apply them or anything. Any other video has the camera back in freaking Narnia, so I really appreciate a clear demonstration. Also, you just have such a pleasant voice! It was easy to listen and learn from you!

christina mahoney: This was amazing! Want to try! If my client wants it for length would you do more tracks?

I just fell in love with your personality and how you were just more than willing to share this video with everyone!! I'm also self taught and been braiding hair for 17 years on and off and down fusion hair extensions for about 4 years and stoped. M Mars: Self taught queen thank you

Adriana Rene Bryer: this helped a lot! what brand extensions do you use?

Estela Ruth López: Love it!

TheTatumness: I think the after looked great, but honestly don’t know what the before looked like. With the blend at the end, and only have two wefts (I usually have 6-8 double wefts rows for my head) I can’t imagine there is much difference and wonder why she would get this done. Looks great though!

Mel's World: Do you move them up in between or do you remove them and re-sew?

Infinite Beauty: I love your work❣️

Audrey’s Beauty Gadgets: Thank you so much for your videos ❤️ I was just wondering if the hair you used was also from JZ or do you get hair somewhere else. I am trying to figure out where is good hair options. Thank you

Marie Steffen: Ugh... I can't thank you enough for this video and what you said in the beginning! Please do more videos like this... New subscriber here

Jane Holder: Fantastic clear video and instructions. The camerawork is the best I've seen

LXsalon: Thank you Hunny I really learned A Lot from you!!!!!!

sarah rawcliffe: I’m learning my self hairdressing by watching videos

Day Drinking with a Hairstylist: Can I make a suggestion for when you’re doing your beadwork? If you twist your wrist a quarter turn it will make it much easier on her scalp (wrist to the head and knuckles to you).

Diane Greaves: what a great video, Thank you so much. I have tapes in but love the weft so much better. Is it possible to do your own hair? do you have a video on how to remove it?

amanda wadding stapleton: What is the best brand of extensions that last the longest?

Cathy Olander: Amazing job!!

M Z: I know it would be twice as much work but would it look more natural and feel more comfortable to do single layer weft in two rows, one an inch or so below the horseshoe track?

Lexi Keyes: Have you found that this is the most comfortable for your clients when they are ready for a move-up? It seems odd to me to not loop behind the beads. I know you said its the least damaging that you've found which is great! But I want to make sure this will also be comfortable when the hair is about an inch grown out.
