How To Wash And Style Tape In Hair Extensions

Hi Loves!

In this video I show you my tips on how to wash your hair when you have tape in hair extensions, but you can use these tips with pretty much any type of hair extensions. I'll also show you how I blow dry and style my hair so it looks almost as good as when you come out of the salon. ;)

Hey guys and welcome to my channel, I'm Jana and in today's video I'm going to show you some tips and tricks on washing your hair. When you have tape in extensions, so I'm going to wash my hair and then I'm going to come back and blow dry and style, my hair. So I'm going to show you how I do that too. So this is your first time having tape and extensions and you're. Like can I wash this? How do I wash this, then you might find this video helpful and keep watching ok, so tip number one is don't wash your hair extensions more than once a week, and I say your hair extensions, not your hair, I'll, get into that in a second, but I Feel, like washing your hair extensions once a week, prolongs the life of your hair and makes it look better and last longer than the long run, washing it more often kind of dries it out and honestly, it's kind of a hassle so once a week is what I would recommend now we know what you might be thinking girl if I'm only washing my hair once a week, my roots are going to get really greasy. Don'T worry. I have a tip for washing just your roots, which I'm going to mention in a second, but tip number two is invest in a good dry shampoo. It'S honestly going to be your best friend. I recommend the cheese there's a topical sponges, one that smells like pineapples and coconut, which is amazing. So this is what my hair looks like after one week of not washing it. It'S looking a little crazy, there's, so much dry. Shampoo buildup in here is not even funny like look at that, usually for the last three days or the last few days of the week I'll style. My hair in a braid, which slide kind of looks a little wavy just to keep it out of the way, and so I can make it to wash day, which is today. So that leaves me to my third tip tip number three, if you can't make it for the week and you need like a midweek refresher. This is what I'll do I'll just section off the top of my head: that's oily and gross, and I need to wash it plus all my natural hair. So I'll just show you basically it's like your leave out. So I'll just take the top section, which is all my hair. So that's the tape in and I'll just tie that out of the way I will wash that just because we don't want to mess with the bond unless you wash your hair, the more your bonds will last. You know what I mean so a section off the top of my natural hair. Just like that and it'll take the clips like this. You got a little bit of extension in there, but that's okay. So there we go I'll just section off the top part and then I'll tie the extensions away. I don't have a hair elastic right now, but just pretend tie it away like in a bun and then just shower carefully do so in the shower I'll. Just take out the clip and go like this and then just shampoo and conditions tie it up. Let the conditioner sit in there for a little bit and then rinse out that conditioner and then, when I come out I'll, just blow dry, the top part and then you'll feel so much better. And you won't have to touch your hair. And it's just like a midweek refresher, you'll feel so good and your hair will look better and then you're not messing up with your bonds or your extensions. That'S because when you wash your hair, your hair gets heavier I'll start to pull on the bonds, making them slip a little bit, and that goes that's the same case with any kind of extensions. As soon as your hair is wet, it'll start to pull on the bonds, making your tape and slip your fusions slip, your micro links you're. So in as soon as that extra weight is there it'll kind of weaken the bond which we don't want, which is why we wash your hair extensions once a week, because the less you wash your hair at the last year bonds will flip and the longer your Hair will last, which is what we want so that'll, be Fiza how I actually wash my hair in the shower. So washing your hair, when you have tape in extensions or extensions in general, is not that much different than washing your hair. When you don't have them, you just have to be a bit more careful, so typically I'll go in the shower wet. My hair, shampoo, my roots, and you know, give it a good scratch because you probably have a lot of product build up if you're, not washing. Your hair, more than once a week so give it a good scrub and scrub between the bonds as well. Just don't like go crazy because then you're going to cause tangling and matting, so just be gentle and so wash your hair to three times and then what I'll do is. Since my hair see me really heavy you're going to feel it pulling on your bond I'll, go like this and restaurant on my shoulder and when it's why it will stay there easier and I'll put conditioner on the ends and then kind of leave it there to Letting the shore work and do a straw for you know a few minutes wall shut, Rin says the conditioner and rinsed out really good make sure you do a really good rinse, because, especially between the bonds, you don't want shampoo, buildup and stuff like that. Give it a good rinse and then you're done pretty much so as far as shampoos and conditioners go. You want to pick products that are sulfate free and don't use a shampoo. That'S a volumizing shampoo because it's going to add, lift to your roots and mess up with your bond and don't use one that's too moisturizing, because that can cause your bonds with your tapes to slip as well. So it's a little tricky to find a good one, but make sure it's sulfate free, maybe you're, clarifying one to get rid of the buildup and use a really good, deep conditioner and only put it from like mid-shaft down. Never ever ever put a conditioner on your bond because that's we mint or like your tape, that's going to cause them to slip. I'M going to try this one. I haven't tried this one yet, but I'm going to give it a go right now. It'S the Marc, Anthony macadamia oil one and then I have been matching deep conditioner which I'm going to put on the end. So let's see how that goes I'll, be right! Back, okay, I'm back so I literally just got out of the shower and what you want to do is how will dry your hair. So what I do is just go like this and squeeze the excess water out. So it's not like drippings and you obviously never want to rub your hair with a towel that just causes breakage whether or not you have extensions. You don't want to be doing that, especially if you have extensions you're, gon na be matting up your hair, so just squeeze dry and then what I do is take a little bit of this. I love this stuff. It'S the John Frieda Frizz Ease thermal protection. Serum prevents frizz and breakage smooth split ends from the damage of high heat tools. I love this stuff, I'm almost out of this bottle. This is like my third bottle, so I take maybe like two pumps, I'd be a little bit more and then rub it in between my hands and run it through my hair just again, like mid, shot down, focus more on the end and just run that through So this is going to be my heat protection um to protect me from the blow dryer and then I take a whi to comb and then gently comb through my hair, and I forgot to mention that before you go and shampoo your hair, that you should really Brush it make sure that it's tangle free before you go and put water on it, because otherwise it's going to be a nightmare. It'Ll just make your life so much easier. If you brush your hair before you shampoo it so I'm just kind of starting at the bottom and then working my way up so as soon as the bottom part is tangle free. You go up a little higher and work out the tangles and then make your way down again and then go back up and work out the tangles at the top. Until all your hair is tangled right - and I also like to hold my hair as I'm brushing it so that it's not pulling right from the tapes or the bonds of the top it's pulling from where I'm holding my hair, if that makes sense, so you're never Going to be yanking at your bonds or your tape. So now that my hair is relatively tangle, free, I'm just going to go through it with a blow-dryer, really quick and you want to make sure your bonds are pretty dry but don't put like direct heat on them. Just kind of you'll see [ Applause ]. So my hair is still pretty damp, I'm going to let it air dry a little bit longer before I go through it with a round brush and a blow dryer, so I'll be right back. Okay! So now that my hair is relatively dry ish, it's a little damp, I'm going to start the blow drying process so blow drying it with a round brush is pretty much the same process whether or not you have hair extensions. You just section off and section off. Your hair and work section by section so I'll show you how I do it. I usually start at the bottom and then work my way up. So I start by drying off the tape first and then I'll work my way through the rest of the hair. So this is what my hair looks like after I blow dried it and to finish off the look, I'm just going to run through it with a flat iron. I'M going to put a little bit more of this in my hair to protect it and thats. That also acts as like kinda, like a shine 0, which is kind of nice, just put that on the ends, and it smells good and I'm gon na brush it through this, and I like that product because it leaves my hair silky, not sticky. I feel like some heat protectants like your hair, kinda, sticky and then chunky. I don't like it guys. I forgot my normal size flat iron, so I have to use this dinky travel-size, one we'll make do it'll work just fine, so I'm just going to take sections and run my flat iron through it. So this is the final look of my hair being clean. It'S so nice so that pretty much wraps up my video. I hope you found it helpful if you were looking for advice on how to wash or style your hair with tape and extensions. If you have any questions at all, please comment below and I'll reply to your comments and yeah thanks for watching. Please subscribe, like my video, see you guys later bye what

Katie Shepherd: I am getting tape in hair extensions in 3 days and this video was a life saver! I was so nervous about washing my hair because I currently wash my hair everyday since it is so thin and oily! But now that I have seen this video I feel so much more confident in getting tape ins! Thank you for all of the advice!! ❤️❤️

Crystal Stackhouse: OH MY GOODNESS! That tip about the shower was AMAZING! I have naturally blonde hair and the oil is REAL. But the worst part is my roots get sooo dark and people think I get my hair dyed. Thanks for the tip cause I'm getting my tape ins put in soon.

Alison Meacham: thank you! I am new to tape ins, and was terrified to wash for the first time. Your video absolutely helped me feel a lot more confident in the process. You rock!!

Eli Resurreccion: I’m so glad I’m not the only person who does the mid week wash the top bit. I was my whole head only like once a week with extensions but I have a lovely really full finge/bang situation going on and have a bad habit of running my hands through my hair throughout the day so I need to wash the top bit and my fringe like atleast once midweek depending on what I’ve been doing and if I’ve been sweating and it’s like extra greasy.

Cora Whipple: I’ve worn clip ins for 12 years and just got tape ins for the first time 2 days ago!! I was going to wash them tonight but this video changed my mind. Definitely helpful, thank you!!

Suzanne: I just had my hair done for the first time today, so thank you so much for this video

rain crescent: I'm getting tape in extensions in 2 weeks. Im so excited. Your tips were the best and your personality is so sweet and genuine. You're a doll. Thanks for the tips and tricks

heydominique: oh wow! I just found this video and your channel, sooo helpful!!! I just ordered some tape ins for the first time and this is a big help! how did you end up liking that brand of shampoo and conditioner after using it for a while? thats one of the more affordable options and if it worked for you I'll go pick it up. new sub :) also side note your background is so pretty, love the greenery!

Julie Bohannon: THANK YOU!!! This totally helped more than any other video and I’ve watched a LOT of them haha

Michelle: You're never supposed to let the tape dry naturally for any length of time. With that said not sure how long you let it air dry. Leaving the tape damp can make them gummy etc and cause them to slip. If anything you blow dry the tapes and let the rest air dry. So again not sure how long you left the tapes damp but they should not be damp for any length of time. Should be dried pretty much right away.

B MONEY: I am thinking about getting tape ins and this video was very informative. Thank you so much. And your hair looks great!

Evy Wolf: Since I got my hair tape in extensions I only wash my hair 2 times a week beginning of the week and at the end of the week

Jianna Castellano: Girl your hair looks good after a week of not washing ! I've been training my hair to only be washed once a week for awhile now and it's finally not getting as greasy as fast.

Brittany Ehlert: Your video was very helpful and very incisive I plan on getting tape extensions cuz I just went from a brunette to a full-on blond and my hair is kind of short and I've been thinking about getting extensions now that I know that I can at least get them wet once in awhile I think I'm going to go through with it

Ashley Purcell: So I have had tape ins for a while. I love them. Ive noticed that SOMETIMES there’s a little smell to them even when I use shampoo and conditioner recommended by a beauty supply store. How do you get the smell to go away?? I’ve had that problem twice now and took a while to get the smell to leave the hair.

dvc blue: You are absolutely adorable!!! Thank you for the wonderful tips :0)

Jordan: I tried only washing my hair once a week with tape ins. My hair gets greasy easily considering I also work out a lot. Literally all of them were slipping out because of how greasy they were. The grease causes them to slip. My stylist then told me I should wash them every two days. So I'm not sure how you only wash them once a week and they're perfect on you and all of mine were slipping out.

Angie: Loved your tips! I have had my tape in for a year now. Got some new ones put in on my yr anniversary. Love them and yours are very pretty☺ what is the name of the thermal protect shine cream that you are using again?

natalie hutchins: Olaplex products are great! Both for your natural hair and extensions. I apply the conditioner in 3 to 4 braids and line the sink with a plastic bag so I can catch the excess conditioner. Good tips!

Daissblaze: Just got tape ins two days ago! This video is a life saver I was scared to wash my whole head till I seen this video! Thank you! Subscribed for sure

Pily Flores: This was so helpful!!!! I'm on my first week and I so afraid to wash them, I'll try the refreshing wash before the whole thing. How do you use the dry shampoo?

Karen Lopez: Girl, thank you for this video!

Bailey Woodward: What’s the best type of round brush to use on extensions?

Evy Wolf: Never thaught of putting my hair on my shoulders thank you lol I just got out off the shower and didn't think of doing that lol now I know !:)

Alysia Festejo: Love the video!! Simple ways of taking care of them! Why did you straighten your hair afterwards?

Mary Beth Doughty: What heat protector do you use? Name and brand please. What an informative video. Thank you.

Taylor Tutorials: You’re supposed to wash your extensions with shampoo, if you don’t wash them then the natural oils from your hair will also weaken the bonds

M.M. Olsen: Hey Janna, I appreciate your tips! What shampoo do you use on your tape extensions?

Erika Kroll: What brand and length of extensions do you have in? They look so good!

Katie Steip: So helpful!! Thanks for all the tips

Anastasiya Sergeevna Webb: Great tips! Thank you!

Amanda Nicholas: Yeah that dont work for me... i have my extensions ON TOP of my hair ... #uhhh. I have my sides and underneath back shaved (medical reasons) so i had to place my extentions ontop of my head and im finding out my hair is oily .... i LOVE the extentions but... not sure what to do about the oily part. I bought dry shampoo and its just uhhh feels stiff. And my hair dont flip bounce and lay right with dry shampoo and you can definitely tell i have extensions in after like 2 days of no wash and if i ise dry shampoo at all. I think im just gonna have to buy extra tape and be ready to reapply alot. #hassle #thingswedoforbeauty

Lady Louise: I have very, very thin hair. Would you recommend these for someone like me? Also does the dry shampoo you use leave any flakiness? I have almost black hair and you can see the flakes very easily. Thanks so much. :)

Amy Pike: Just got tape in's and your video was really helpful - thx!

Wisdom: Hi! Have you ever tried the keratin bond extensions??? If so, which is your favorite??

Latifa Abdul: Seemed fun. Thank you

丂丂ㄒ丨匚Ҝ乇尺: I love hotheads tape in extensions, but I hate brushing them after the wash. I normally get 18-20 inches two packs, so it’s pretty thick and time consuming..... hotheads are the best quality, however it’s high maintenance due to its frizziness and it tangles up throughout the day and especially after a wash

Melody Patterson: A WET brush is your best friend with extensions

Amanda Nicholas: I always find it funny how people gettig out of the shower has perfect makeup lol XD

Lose Weight with Sepi: ❤️thanks for this video. How about rinsing with water? I workout and sweat a lot

Carina Fernandes: This video honestly helped me a lot x

Chanelle Pina: my hair is naturally curly and i straighten it when i have extensions but this is my first time having tape ins. idk how I'm gonna wash it and straighten the curly roots with these in. ):

Beckie Ross: Honestly I couldn’t wash my hair once a week! No matter how much dry shampoo, my hair would just be so flat and not great! I have to wash it every couple of days if not every day! I honestly can’t help it :( I’m gonna try and stop doing it as much xx

Jess Milt: How long do tape-ins last after aplicación?

Roodibeger: Can you bring your own hair extensions to a salon and have them put them put them in for you?

Southern Mommy Style: How long do you let it air dry ?

Cee Bee: Hi everyone, can someone please answer one question. CAN YOU SWIM WITH TAPE IN HAIR EXTENSIONS REGULARLY? I spend a lot of time at the beach and in chlorine water and I want to know if they will hold well or damage my hair if I swim a few times a week?

crazyforcats19: I have a question. I don't know if you know how to answer this, but I got a pink hair extension as a highlight from Ulta and I really want it to last as long as possible. How long should I expect it to last washing my hair twice a week? And how do I tell when I should get it removed? Will it obviously start sliding out/falling out? Also, I have this bad habit of touching the tape/bond/whatever it is to make sure it's not showing. Does touching it cause it to weaken and not last as long?

Alex Kess: Your eyes and smile wow!

Butterfly Angel: What brand of shampoo and conditioner would you suggest for tape in extensions?

Crystal Bergquist: Can you repeat which dry shampoo you recommended? Thanks!

Natalie De Biase: Hi great video, I'm. Currently considering tape ins, I was wondering what colour hair u have used as your colour is similar to mine. Thanks

Alayna June: New subscriber here!! I’m getting tape in extensions pretty soon so these tips were awesome!! Thank you :) ❤️

Magnificat: dry shampoo is bad for the scalp in the long run. it clogs the hair folicules, which is bad for hair growth. You should only use it once in a while, definitely not on a regular basis

Nicole Ruth: Girl you are so beautiful and your personality is so great and helpful!

Katie kate: Aveeno pure renewal shampoo sulfate free is the best for tape ins

sunflowerr 2000: Hi. How much does it cost and how long it lasts?

Tanya Perry: I'm using baking soda to wash my hair. Can I use it on tape in extensions?

Gizzy: I have tape ins. Haven’t washed yet. Had them done 4 days ago. When can I wash? And, I thought stuff with oils can ruin the tape ins? Argon oil, macadamia oil?

Elizabeta Lukacevic: what extention brand you have?great tips btw you should do more videos

Kaila Elizabeth: I just got mine a few days ago and I’ve only washed them once so far. They are beautiful but I HATE the feeling of not being able to scrub my scalp like I usually do, plus mine are itchy.... I already have a super dry scalp, I sorta feel like these are making it worse. But maybe it’s all just in my head

Smile it’s Mads: Just installed my own tape ins 3 days ago & am terrified to wash it! This was sooo informative! Loved it thank you!

Anjali Grewal: Can you let the water hit the extensions?

Amber Bobbys: I just recently ordered Bellami tape in an i only got to packs an I’m afraid it won’t be enough am my hair is still gonna look really thin an lifeless :(

Drawingsbyyuli: The only thing that is stopping me from tape ins instead of clip ins is paying every month to get them moved it gets expensive

Louisiana Coonass: Do you think it's safe to use nioxin scalp treatment with my tap ins

Sarah Bond: Fab video can't wait to get mine done x

Sabrina Brown: how do you not have atleast 1k subs? you're awesome!!!! Love your videos. I subbed!❤❤❤

Lil Zuplada: G. Tape ins look like a lot of hassle. I'd stick with clip ins and halo extensions for now

Megan Joseph: So with tape in extensions i can still shampoo all ova hair with care? And just do conditioner half way down? The reason i ask is ive only had mine for a week and i was told i could wash/conditon as normal but i had a tape come out So im guessing it was the conditioner that did this and not the shampoo?

Sofie Bren: Where are your extensions from?!

sammy soppy: Your hair looks pretty good for not washing it here. Very bed head. Like people pay for that look lol so it’s not bad even with the dry shampoo build up

Anonim: 'Are you thinking about the contest where we could win a wig?

600firefly1: I have fine hair but it's growing ok and it's getting long. Will fine hair not show the tape extensions?

Gabrielle Champagne: Good tricks !!!!!!

Rachael futch: What brand of extension s do you have

Bri Marie: that is NOT a wide tooth comb i'm gonna cry

Charli Tremain: My hair is thin and yours looks that way too, how many grams of extensions do you usually get? Do you feel like yours are visable or very noticable?

Lori Dodds: What shampoo and condioner did you use

Kra vica: I wash same, only the top of my head... :-)

Griselda Gonzalez: Do your tape ins get wavy after you wash them?

Kagome8967: What extensions did you get?

Brittaine Lyles: Are these for black girls? I really want them.and I just want to know if it will blend with my texture
