I think this transformation has always kind of been in the back of my mind, but I've never really thought that I could pull it off. This much. Fingers, crossed. Hi, I'm Josie. And today I'm getting a shaggy curly cut with bangs.. But before you see my transformation subscribe below. I want to get this new look because I'm in dire need of a little change., I have had kind of the same hair. My whole life. I've gone through a couple. Little hiccups.. I had bad side bangs in middle school. In college. I decided to dye my hair in the dorm bathroom.. We did it without gloves also very bad idea., So I'm in need of a little change. A little elevation here., I'm an adult. It's time to just kind of switch it up.. This will be my first time with someone that actually understands my hair type.. I'Ve always had a family friend cut my hair or I've gone with my dad to his like little chain haircut spot.. I hope this stylist teaches me how to keep my hair healthy and volumized.. I just need to treat it right., I'm really looking forward to seeing how it comes. Out., I'm going to look cute. Hi, I'm Michael., Hey, I'm Josie. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you too. Hi, I'm Michael Dueñas and I am a celebrity hairstylist. And I specialize in curly hair in Los Angeles.. I am best known for texture and movement in hair and really locking down someone's curl pattern.. I do think bringing you up we're going to get close to where your corkscrew are in the back.. Add in a little bit of layers for you, so you can get some more movement.. Bringing some face framing will be really good.. You want to go ahead and get started. Yeah. Let'S do it.. Are you comfortable Yeah.? Are you good? I'M ready., I thought Josie's hair was beautiful. It just needed a little bit of maintenance and a little bit of love., I'm going to start with each curl pattern. Lifting up to the proper elevation and trimming the ends to a soft point.. The reason you want to go to a curly hair specialist is that we know curls. We trained on it., We live in it., We breathe it.. There is a big difference with cutting curls and knowing what you're doing and cutting curls. Assuming you know what you're doing. Josie has two different curl patterns. Her first curl pattern starts at her occipital, which is the bone. That is just at the back of your head.. It sticks out just a little bit and creates more of the round head shape. Right there. She had what we call corkscrew curls.. She had very tight curls. Above that she had Botticelli curls.. That is a more looser relaxed, curl.. Think Sarah Jessica Parker. Did you ever do the full on bleaching of the hair. I can show you a picture of me from first grade to my senior year of high school and you will see all my different hair, colors and .... Once I have finished, my horseshoe shaped sections from the nape to the top of the head. I'M now creating my fringe. Looking at her face. I knew that a square blunt fringe would not work, but halo would open her up.. I didn't even know there were different terms for bangs.. There are many different terms. Knowing this would then grow into curtain bangs, and this gives her versatility and longevity in her haircut.. I'M a little scared with this new look just because I'm not that great at styling.. I'M really low maintenance., But you know what It's quarantine., I'm not really seeing anybody.. So it's kind of the perfect time to try something new.. I always keep my camera off on zoom calls, but with my new haircut, I'm thinking maybe I'll turn it back. On. The products I'm going to use are Aloxxi Essential 7 oil treatment, conditioner and Aloxxi bombshell, grip, spray., I'm going to apply nickel sized amounts of conditioner to my palms and emulsify.. I'M going to start at the mid shaft and apply the conditioner to the ends.. The goal is to have the hair feel like seaweed., Very slippery, very soft.. I have been doing hair for 20 years., I'm old as hell.. The way I mastered curly haircuts was basically turning into a machine.. Doing that really teaches you about different curl patterns and different clients reactions., So you really learn what you need to do with every client and every type of curl.. I am taking double pronged clips., I'm going to lift the root and clip the hair up.. This is going to give volume and allow airflow.. I am also clipping where her fringe is together.. This is to give me a halo shape and to get rid of her center part.. Now I'm going to show Josie how to properly use the Conair smooth wrap dryer.. I am picking the hair up and setting it into the dryer, but not moving it, letting it sit and dry completely.. Now that the hair is dry, I'm going to use my cool shot button.. The cool shot button is now going to be used all over the head to cool the hair down until it's cool to the touch. Hair means something pretty simplistic to me.. It is a form of self-expression, but it is a temporary form of self-expression.. I built a portfolio and it just kind of exploded from there.. It was that one client and I became a color educator, cutting educator former and then just really grew my passion from there.. Alright open your eyes., Oh my gosh.. I look different., It's so cool.. If it gets a little crazy, just take a touch of that conditioner I used on you, put it in a spray bottle and lightly mist.. Thank you so much. This is amazing.. I love my new hair.. I feel confident. I feel like it really suits me.. I never thought that I could have amazing curls like this. To see so much volume and definition is amazing.. I loved working with Michael. Working with Josie was terrible.. She was probably the worst. I'm just kidding. Working with Josie was a dream.. She is receptive.. She was open and she was willing to listen to things that I had to say.. She kept showing me photos of hair that was around clavicle and everything she kept saying ``, But I want my hair longer.'', So we really went with that. Really cool rocker 70s vibe.. We compromised a little bit with the length and I was able to just kind of put my full trust in him because he knows what he's doing. I don't. There's an Arabic dance called the Dabke and once Covid's over. I can't wait to get back out there and be doing the lion dance with my hair bouncing around effortlessly embracing my heritage, my natural curls and me.. Thank you for watching Refinery29. Marie Ibrahim: Who else loves that he taught her how to do it so she doesn’t have to come back every time to get her hair done

Life with Akunna: Let’s have him do all the transformations lol

Sophia Rubens: this appears to be a great example of active dialogue between the client and stylist...in many of these videos, it seems like the stylist "goes rogue" from what the client actually asked for, or the client doesn't ask for the optimal service for their hair needs. but in this video the stylist clearly cared about creating as close to the client's vision as possible, and only modifying it to better mesh with the client's needs

sister Stina: This hair stylist has to be my absolute favorite in this series. Also he does hair since 20 years??! He looks like he's barely 30!! And obviously I love the haircut!! Curly Bangs are so gorgeous!!

Lina Alhusban: OMG, I need someone like him in my life, I live in place where everyone tells you to do keratin or protein to make your hair straight ‍♀️

OHTHECHITCHAT: He really defined her curls so well.

Simke sims: He is a Hollywood hairstylist yall, he did Beyonce's hair in "Yonce" and "Grown woman" and the list goes on and on. He is a PRO pro man

Sophia Thompson: I love how well he worked with the client’s wants and explained how the audience and the client could do it at home. Great video!

Alucandra: Idk why but this made me tear up a little cuz I would do anything for a curl specialist in my area.

monalisajuir: Just wow! Never seen a hair stylist turning dull hair into such beautiful lively curls! He knows his job

Celina: I’ve all ways wanted curly bangs but my hair is so curly- like I’m jealous

Caroline K: She looks great and I love the stylist! ❤️

Tiffany Bonn: Loved josie’s hair it’s so freaking perfect for her face and style. He was hilarious and so knowledgeable about curly hair!!Enjoyed this video a lot!!!❤️

Emily K: Girl stop touching it! It looks beautiful but touching it too much will break up the curl definition and make it frizzy!

waseabi52: curly bangs are amazing, its funny people used to say people with curls cant wear bangs

Nicky Witch: OH MY GOD. SHE LOOKS STUNNING!! Her hair are gorgeous and lively!more people should know about it!!

abby mendez: her eyes, her smile, and most of all her curls are beautiful, that haircut popped all that out!!

Lisa Messikommer: Wooooa I love the end result! She’s gorgeous and she has a beautiful voice. And this hairdresser knows his job!! Great video guys

BleachyNote: WOW! I have never seen someone with the same hair as me. I've been wanting to get bangs for a while, but haven't found the right stylist. Michael did an amazing job! Does anyone know how I could go about making an appointment with him? I tried his insta, but couldn't find out how to contact him or his salon :/

Anne Wagner: Looks so gorgeous ❤️ I wish there would be a curly hair specialist in my country

Bitch Pudding: Great stylist! Brought life into her curls. Those curls turned out gorgeous!

Heather Baldwin: Girl your hair needs a protein treatment! I tried one recently for my frizzy, undefined curls and it made them defined, shiny, and bouncy, and massively reduced the frizz. All you need is rice and water and you can make a rice water treatment that works wonders for our hair type!

sixtwentysevenblog: This cut shows the power of curly hair having an amazing cut to highlight it. Super cute results.

TurtleyClutch: Me having curly hair seeing her touch it so much girl it’s gonna make your hair poofy

Amelia M.: Wow. The way he cut her hair was mesmerizing! Definitely a master at his craft. I wish more stylists were trained to cut on curly or textured hair.

Natalie C.: Your first curly cut! I’ve gotten over a dozen curly cuts and I know that feeling of elation with the final look. I’ve also felt very disappointed with some cuts. You really need to find someone who understands curly hair like Michael. How fun! It looks amazing!!

The Green Gardener: Beautiful Transformation! How is it he looks to be in his 20's but been doin' hair for over 20 years!! I'll have what he's having!!

Pravljični kanal: I have the same approach to Josie, I've started exploring the curly girl method this year since "it's lockdown, even if it looks disastrous, nobody will see it". It was very useful hearing about the double prong clips though! My scalp always takes ages to dry, making my hair much more stretched and elongated than I would want to - it's a clever idea to lift the roots and allow air to get to the scalp more easily, need to try this my next wash day!

Nora Mendez: It's so good! I've always wanted bangs but every hair stylist I've ever have said, I can't because I have curly hair... I need to find me a curly hair specialist.

παναγιώτης παπαδόπουλος: SHE LOOKS SO CUTE

Berit: The hair looks so healthy right now, I'm jealous!

Liz G: He speaks about hair in such a scientific way. I love it!

Tay: She’s brave. I can’t commit to bangs

Emilee Birchall: Awee i love the hair transformations but the bigger smiles is the thing that really makes them shine. :)

Ashley Wyatt: Wow this is what you call a professional! You look amazing girl turn that Zoom camera on

Aka Oluchi: The way a person trims curly or kinky hair can inspire trust. He does it so well

Kayla Harvard: Wow he did such a good job!!!

enid: she's gorgeous!!! her hair is so beautiful after the stylist did his thing and the stylist is also gorgeous btw

Alexandra Perez: Love the tips for styling curly hair!!!

Luna Lee Lee: Really enjoyed this video! He was amazing, love her hair

Adzillina Diva R.: Her hair is so perfect with her eyes!

Me And All My Dolls: I feel like people without curly hair don’t understand how much time it takes to comb it out everyday and to take care of it. I used to want super straight hair but just remember that curly, wavy, straight or kinky your hair is beautiful and if you learn to except it you’ll be so much happier! This looks amazing!

Sare Bear: Finally. A hair stylist in this series that actually knows what they are doing.

Lovely Snowella: You look amazing!!!! What a nice cut!!

Ivy Eloise: She is so beautiful, her hair looks so good!

Annapoorni Arulanandan: Her after hair looks so much like Camilla Cabello's!!!!!! It's so good on her❤❤❤❤❤
