Think about bumper bangs just be prepared that it'll probably look good in person, but once you take a photo hello, nice big trash bag in the background magic. So today I thought I would do a hair tutorial feels like a while, since I've done. One of those might not have been what use it so, every time that I do bumper bangs, I always get questions and how I do it and asking for a tutorial and all that jazz. So I thought, how would you thought today and I wanted to show you a couple different ways of doing it - mainly one being kind of huge bumper bangs and then the other one a little bit more, so these are pretty easy to do. They just take just a little bit of patience and a little bit of trial and error, but I believe in you so first things. First, there are a few different ways that you can make bumper bangs. For me, I like to go with these little mesh hair rats. I don't remember exactly where I got this, but I will do some digging and try to find the link feel uncomfortable. The other option is taking an actual hair donut and then you snip it another option and what they used to do back in the day was kind of gross. But you try to save all the hair from your hairbrush and then put a mesh, or maybe a hair net over that this is a good option because it matches your hair and you don't really have to worry about this peeking through the con is that you Have to explain why you'll have a stockpile of six months worth of hair stashed away. I myself like to go with the hair donut version, because I think it gives a little bit more stability, so I think we should just start off with a bang and go the giant bunker bangs. First things. First, we are going to section off the hair. That is going to be rolled up, so we're gon na go ahead and cue, the cousin it tutorial time and what you're gon na do is section off. Basically, this much hair is what I like to do so it's kind of just right at the corners. Ideally, you'd probably want it to be like triangle: I'm not gon na worry too much about that right. Now I like to hairspray the ends, especially just to keep the ends together and then quite simply, just roll the hair up and try to keep it as tight. As you can so once you get here, you're gon na make a u-shape and then pin that's what's nice about these mesh Donuts is that the bobby pins just go right into them? Okay, so once you feel like that's secure, then you start taking the hair and spreading it out. I think everyone does this part a little bit differently. I'M gon na show you how I do it, which is a little bit messy, but we're gon na do something to clean this up later, so don't judge me, pin this loose hair and this extra hair technically, you could just stop here if you're a little bit More careful about hiding the ends because you'll see it looks okay from this angle, but once you turn I'm not very good at hiding it. So what I do as an alternative is I take the sides of my hair. This does take a little bit of practice if you've never done victory rolls before, but basically you're gon na curl it around your fingers and then curl upwards and then lay that curl right there. So it's, oh so conveniently hiding the edges, I'm sure you can do a better job of hiding the bobby pins, but you get the general idea and that really helps with the pressure of hiding the hair rat in the first place. So that's pretty much it. So these ones, like I said, are very big and right now, they're making me think of meet me in st. Louie, but you know, and then, as for the rest of the hair, you could just leave it like this, but I'm gon na pull it back and Then I just have to take it out of the bobby pins eight hours later. Okay, now for the second version, we're gon na take this donut. Now it is a hair croissant, we're just gon na do the same thing. We did last time so here's the second version. That'S what I do. It'S not perfect. You can still see the hair donut in quite a few different places, but that's kind of where the patience comes in in order to properly hide it also. I think I will be purchasing read versions of these so that if it does poke through a little bit, it's not as noticeable that's it. I think I actually like this smaller version better. Let me know if you guys end up trying it and make sure you tag me if you want, because I'm nosy and I love to see what people are doing mm-hmm, but that is it. I love you guys whether you're newer old to this channel, and I will see you in the next video bye e, well you're, so magenta, okay, so um yeah, you know Frodo it's a bit like I hit the record button and then to you that signals that You need to go, get a toy, that's just kind of what I'm gathering from this situation. Is that what is that? What'S happening and a little bit of Trier Trier into our, I myself like to go with the hair donut crank, goalie TV you're, a piece of trash. Where are the schizos? You know we had like five pairs of scissors and now we're down to one. Where did they all go? What are you doing so same thing smile? I talked with you again me me me.

Mya Bella: **cuts bangs** Rachel: here's how you do bumper bangs Me: cool cool, I'm fine

Wietske Janse: I always love the little captions you write to portray Frodo's inner monologue, they're so funny! ^^

dmfei: love how natural/casual these videos are. cozy house and bg music , playful w/out being overly "on", it's like a friend's explaining this also your outfit's "super cute!" !

Chocunzel: That looks so cute! I wish my hair would hold literally a n y t h i n g i make it into. It just collapses :( We're being spoilt, Rachel! So many uploads! Remember to take care of yourself and to not overwork yourself. We appreciate every video, and thanks for your hard work! It's wonderful being able to retreat to this channel after a bad day, or even a good day. Your videos always cheer me up. Good work Rachel, and happy new year! (Maybe a bit late but the sentiment is there)

Franny: rather than buying a red one, you might try wrapping your existing ones with a nylon or tights in your preferred color? That is what we used to do in our theatre costume department for them :) though honestly i don't know if it would be almost the same price to buy tights as to just buy a colored hair donut...

Valaeth: *Queen of vintage uploads yet again* love seeing more and more of your face on my feed!

Isabella Barry: Bumper bangs always remind me of Judy Garland in Meet Me in St Louis (even if it was made of a creepy hair pile ) love this tutorial

VeganVintageGeek: Back in the day women had a little decorative glass jar with a lid on their dressing table to hold the hair in. Also known as a hair saver. And if you knew how to crochet you can crochet yourself a hair rat, too. I actually tried to do this when I first started doing vintage hair styles, and the yarn I had at the time was to light and the yarn poked through. Plus back in the early 2000s hair donuts/rats were not as easy to buy or find like they are these days. None of the Walgreens or Dollar stores carried them like they do now. And I went to a superbowl party that night my church was having at some ones house. And a woman I just met was really liking my 1940s hair. That she took her hand and pushed the sticking out yarn rat I had in my hair. It totally caught me off guard and she was literally going on and on about my hair and clothes. Turns out she was an extra in the movie The Note Book, and she really really missed dressing 1940s, now I understood why she went on the way she did. And a couple of months later I joined her women's bible study, she turned out not to be as creepy as she seemed when we first met.

E: I'm so glad somebody knows about Meet Me in St Louis! I watched it for the first time as a toddler when I visited my grandmother's house, the song was permanently embedded into my brain. When she passed away in her late 80s it became a bittersweet movie. You look just like Judy Garland!

The Real Mythril: Frodo says “mama, play with me!” Beautiful styling!

Tayli76: You know to be honest, you rock the ginormous bumper bangs

Rara Avis: Ah, I freaking love you for this! I just started wearing wigs occasionally (after getting a pixie haircut) and this is a great option for hiding the darn net at the hairline without actually cutting bangs. Not that I don’t like the pixie, but there are just outfits (and not just vintage ones), that look odd with super short hair. Anything romantic or super feminine just screams for longer hair, imo.

Botanic Asmr: *waving the weird thing that she uses for the bangs* «  you uncomfortable? » * weird look* I luv

Liza P: Love the old way option. I remember my mom and grandma telling me about how in the old days ladies would always save all the hair from their combs and just put it out in the backyard for birds and things to make nests with!

Νικολέτα Ελισάβετ Αρταβάνη: Girl you convinced me to grow my bangs. It is a nightmare to keep them still all day with half bottle of hairspray. With your tutorial, there is hope for thin hair people.

A Modern Centurion: Frodo racing around at the end made me laugh so hard! He's just so excited that you're home all of the time now. Love a sweet and simple tutorial

Marianne Neufeld: This is so cute and helpful! I'll definitely have to give these a try

Bridgette Olivia: I love that you're doing this full-time now! Such a gift. And also yay bumper bangs!

Stephanie Raymond: You may not need to buy red ones, next time you dye your hair, use the extra dye on the hair donut.

Alexandra Hargett: Your editing is always so spot on! Great comedic timing

DaniTellsAll: I just love Frodo running around like a mad thing at the end!!! He so cute!!! Also who knew bumper bangs were actually so "simple".... At least compared to trying to do a victory roll with hair the doesn't ever want to cooperate.... Yay Rachel!!! Keep it up!!!

pay1370: This is one of those hairstyles i'd love to try, just because it looks so ridiculous but awesome at the same time

RedRosesDead07: You look amazing in every video and this is no exception <3 I honestly didn't realize how easy these bumper bangs could be, I need to try this 'do right meow. This look suits you so much!! And thank you for always including outtakes, your sweet pup is so precious and hilarious :)

Rinske Verberg: This is very good to know! I always do them as a sort of 'upside down victory roll' and they stay in place remarkably well, but this gives a way better shape and volume!:)

Lori Olson: So cute! Thanks Rachel and Frodo for making me smile!

Mash Gunn: Love the bumper bangs ❤️❤️ Also love watching your videos they always make me smile We have the same issue with scissors in our house they all seem to vanish when they're needed Love from the UK

Sew-M-Thing Clever: I come for the tutorial and stay for the bloopers/Frodo time

Luiza Hundt: I’m loving having so many videos from you every week! We are truly blessed

Desirae Garcia: Rachel thank you! I’ve been wanting to do a Joan Crawford look since 1942!

Kayleigh: Sooooooo good. I love your videos. I’m so sick of YouTube and all the millionaire gurus out there who put out the same dang over produced videos every day (not to be a downer) BUT YOUUUU! Your videos are so unique and different and so totally Y O U. I love the originality of your style, your ideas, your editing, your humor. I love it all. I’m super happy for you that you bit the bullet and quit your job and believe in yourself! You’re such an inspiration. You’ve got this girl! You’ve got everything it takes! Can’t wait to watch you continue to flourish!!! ❤️❤️❤️

K And: Starting out the new year with a bang! I just cut one of my hair donuts and tried to use it a few ways, not having the patience or skills, so this helped a ton. Love your tutorials, so much fun. Waving your hair rat didn't make me uncomfortable, but I did lmao. :D

Sian C: ahhh these frequent uploads are making me so happy ☺️☺️ and i'm so glad to see you thriving on the creativity and freedom

KathrynOwl: Youve been so amazing in just creating so many videos in such a short time! So happy for you!

Emma O.Thorell: I used to do this style in my teens. If I remember it right I would curl the hair in so that the shape was easier to roll and get right. Obviously not required bc you do it great without curling. Thank you for your great vids

whossoul: Love this tutorial! I have not been able to get bumper bangs mastered. Its always hiding the ends that is the problem, and I get those weird long hair pieces on the ends that are just not working with everything. I will definitely have to try doing some rolls on the side to hide that! If you ever want a not quite so thick hair rat, you can unroll the doughnut type ones and remove a little of the bulk. I've even used this to make small short ones that help give victory rolls and other 40's styles a lot of height.

Alex M: That Chicago reference. I freakin love that musical.

NightNoon: You should do a video (or series?) on caring for your vintage wardrobe! I'm sure you've picked up lots of tips and tricks for washing, storing, ironing etc for vintage/delicate clothing over the years!!

Carlene Godwin: As a redhead, I use the L'Oreal Root Cover Up in "Red" to hide my sponge/rat when needed. Works like a charm for my thin hair!

ELiz Wolfe: Love your videos so much and congrats on being a full time youtuber!! I’d love to see a Judy Garland look book series with some of her most iconic styles!!

Rebekah Kasper: I literally will never wear these bangs but I will watch anything you film. You’re doing so great as a “career” youtuber!

Sydney Glavin: I’m loving your more frequent posts! You seem to be really settling into your new schedule/new job! AND I AM HERE FOR IT!

AppleRoad: Beautiful! You suit so many styles; love it. You nailed the St Louis look xx Need Advice: I let my hair grow ridiculously long (past tailbone) because I'm lazy! Are there any vintage hairstyles you'd recommend? Normally a ponytail is my go to because whenever I use bobby pins it just comes out within the hour from the weight of hair.

allthebestpeople arecrazy: Love this and all your hairstyles! Please could you make some vintage hair tutorials for those of us with curly hair?! Thanks

Courtney H: Thank you so much for this!!! I want to do this style for a Judy Garland meet me in st Louis cosplay real soon

Laura Del Rey: When I had red hair, I bought a few wefts of cheap extensions and colored them the same color as my hair, then stuffed them into a hair net to make a form that matched my color. It worked pretty well!

Rin: I’ve had short short hair for years but I started growing it out months ago so I could do all the vintage hair styles you do tutorials of. Right now it’s a bit Phryne Fisher-ish but SOON! ONE DAY I’LL BE ABLE TO FOLLOW ALONG WITH THESE VIDS!

emmaway7: I love this channel so much! My hair won’t work with this, but my 11 year old niece will sit for me so I can try it on her. She has no idea what vintage is, so I am slowly trying to educate her while still being the cool aunt.

barbie lee: Love it all, Frodo's facial expressions and your captions are perfection !

ClockworkFaery: I spotted stealth cat using it’s invisibility cloak at 2.08 disappearing into thin air. ❤️

coldundertow: Everytime the bloopers starts, I hope to see more of Frodo :)

Francesca Gallo: I really like how hairstyles adding volume suit you! Super cute :)

Renee Howdy: Another terrific video! So fun and playful. I laughed throughout the entire thing. Frodo is too cute. Now that I know bumper bangs are so easy I'm tempted to give them a try. I'm not sure it will work for me since I have bangs. I love your sense of humor. You made my afternoon. Love to you and Frodo! :) <3

Sarah L: Yay! A fun new hair tutorial! I'm gonna need to try these now. Because I love Meet Me In St. Louis!

Megan E Simpson: But actually I’ve been on the lookout for a cute hair saver so I can start stockpiling shed hairs to make rats... nobody makes red hair accessories #redheadproblems

Steffi Campillo: Can’t wait to watch when I get home! Love a great bumper bang!

ms_bsweet: My dad remembers his mom (my grandmother) making hair rats with her own hair. You look great with bumper bangs! :)

Soda Pop: Lovely look! Definitely adding this look to my options!

mastersadvocate: I've tried "Bumper" bangs without a hair rat, or hair doughnut, and it worked out okay. I love the way you did yours, though! Much more sturdy, and will deffo protect you if you bump your head. LOL! I'll bet I know where all of your scissors went! They went to the scissors party, somewhere in your house, then got lost!! ROFL! I love that you included Frodo in your video. He's so cute!! Thanks for this video tutorial! ~Janet in Canada

mimelle: I love your current content & its quantity Great job!❤

Carlota. M: love your videos, and love your edits. so much fun watching you :)

Laura Hinrichsen: Pro tip: If you put your bobby pins in the correct way around (with the bumpy side facing your scalp) instead of upside down they don't slide around as easily. :)

Steffi Campillo: This video was awesome as always! Love the Frodo outtakes and his comments! I want a hair rat now!

Rachael Nielsen: I love this! Like always <3 I'd be curious to get an update video on how you're going as a full-time YouTuber. Your initial videos on this were great. I'm so keen to know how you're feeling now that you're further along. <3

Barbara Filipe: Happy New Year Rachel. Wishing you all the best!

mouseroad: I love your vintage hair tutorials - would love to see you recreate Bette Davis hairstyle from Now Voyager . The French twist she had on her cruise after she was released from the mental asylum lol.

Cara Griffith: Omg you are hilarious. Thanks girl, excited to try to do a bladerunner look.

Galli0: this tutorial was bomb, but the bloobers had me in stitches! thanks for keeping them in!

Maruta Alfacinha: Aahhahha!! Rachel, you just made my day! I laughed so much, especially at the end, with Frodo. He is so cute! Big kisses from Portugal

Sloane Meyer: Great hair tutorial. I've never seen bumper bangs done. Nice trick to hide the sides!

Morgan B.: So far I've been blessed with more and more Rachel in this New Year and honestly what more could I ask for?

Bubblecries: Omg this is so cute! We need more people like you tbh

Laura Lovesey: Honestly I’m addicted to your channel. I love your sense of humour , every time I log onto YouTube your videos are the first thing I watch ❤️

Elizabeth Ross: Hey there hey there! I love your channel and I was especially impressed with the cinematic quality of your Nyx videos. I was wondering what you use for a camera and lighting setup? It would be cool if you made general behind-the-scenes video about shooting and editing.

The Singing Rose: Loved this! I'm going to try it! Hey, what kind of hair curlers would you recommend for someone who is just starting to dress vintage?

Arrani S.: My grandmother always had bumper bangs when she was younger. It's so cute.

Mariel H: I needed this tutorial! Thanks! Now I need to buy a couple of more black hair donuts 'cause I'm not ready to sacrifice my only one I own to the vintage hair Gods. Off to Dollar Tree asap!

b b: I literally came to this video because I thought I was doing bumper bangs wrong because of how terrible they looked in my pictures LOL. This is the first video I've ever seen of you and you've got a new subscriber.

Becky Boop: I know this is an older video but what if you just sprayed the hair doughnuts with gray coverage spray or red colored dry shampoo. I think the gray coverage spray would be cheaper to find in red I think they sell some at Walmart or Sally's. Love your videos! Thanks for the content!

Kiki Dee: I love your sense of humor & I just watched your 2018 NYX Face Awards videos, congrats! Your looks were so great & really felt like you (at least the you I've seen on the youtubes )

Morgan LeStrange: Thanks for the "all that jazz" love! I've always loved when you did that!

mastersadvocate: I had to watch this video again, because I wanted to see how you used the hair doughnut. Also because if I watch what is going on in the background, I can see Frodo or Binx doing strange things behind your back! Your pets always crack me up! I love you, Frodo, and Binx!!! Take care! ~Janet in Canada

Sloane Meyer: (wiggles flesh colored hair rat) Me: ummmmm... Rachel: Feel uncomfortable? Me:

WolfPrincess478: I live for the end of your videos. I love them! Frodo doing the zoomies.

Ambir91: 0:43 i'm always waiting for this part in any new vídeo to come up haha i love it !

missartist123: Totally gonna have to try this when I get home.

Mariel Pare: Meet Me In St Louis is my favorite movie and this tutorial has made my day. I know you didn’t make this solely because of the movie but omg

Alba: You look great with bangs!

quirkyvero: I prefer the smaller version too. Great tutorial as usual. :-)
