What the hell are you for? Are you guys? I can't say it's time so creating this video is a bit of an ethical problem for me, because I'm a professional hairstylist and I can't condone an amateur cutting their hair. However, just give me a second okay, however, when it comes to trimming like trimming, your bangs or trimming random curls, that's something that you can do at home, and I'm going to show you guys today how you can trim your own curly hair in between your salon. Appointments you're not going to show you how to fully reshape your hair, because there's no way you're gon na get an even shape into the back and whatnot, but you should be able to frame your face so without further ado. Let'S let these bangs back down which have gotten too long. It'S been a long time since I have trimmed them, and I'm gon na show you how I do that today. So okay, close, get personal, get cut. First thing: you're gon na need the sharpest pair of scissors that you own. These are my hairdressing scissors. So these our sharp, please refrained from grabbing any kind of arts and crafts scissors, okay, even your kitchen shears, but as long as they're sharp that's what you're gon na need. Now there are some really good non professional-grade hairdressing scissors that I will link below because it really matters and the way you use them matters. Let'S talk about this for a second first of all, there's two sharp blades that kind of clamp down to cut if both blades are moving, nothing will cut. The whole point is that there should be one still blade that never moves and the other blade comes down. Sharp that's when you get a nice clean cut if both blades are moving you're gon na have problems. So my scissors have a nice little tang here. I can hold them still, while just moving the one blade. So that's number one how to operate the schizos. Okay. Now, let's take a look at my face, how I, like my bangs when I do finally trim them, is a nice like rounded u-shape, so I actually really like the lengths that it is on the side. It'S just here right in the middle that I'm having a lot of issues with. So how do I trim these curls? Well, first, I'm doing it one by one on my dry hair. So this is dry cutting 101 okay people when you're cutting a curl. You don't just cut anywhere in the curl, you cut where it is curling. So if you cut at the end of the curl, it's gon na have a weird end. So you kind of have to be able to cut it on an angle and cut it in the middle of the curl, so we can continue to curl that way get it. So, let's have a nice close-up. Look here. I'M gon na find a curl first smack down the center this curl. This will be my guideline. This is where I want the shortest curl to be, and they're gon na slowly get longer throughout the sides. So I'm gon na cut it one curl longer than I would want. So, even though I like it here, I'm gon na cut it here so that after it will jump up to that get it. So I pull the curl tight. I see where I'm cutting in just like that. Well we're gon na throw that away here. I have my first cut. I like this length, because I know that after it'll arrives just to about my eyebrows and that's a good place to start a little bit at a time. It goes a long way. So I want these bangs to be pretty wispy like I don't want them to be super heavy, because I've had that before. So I'm really grabbing the pieces that are closest to my hairline, which is why you do this one step at a time and make sure the curls are sitting where they would. If you look at that, some of them are kind of already at the length that I like, because all the curls curl differently, another crucial reason why you must cut them dry. This is a weird thing, so if I see this curl, when I pull it, I can feel where it's coming from and this curl and in the inner corner of my eyes. So I definitely want to trim this one down. Otherwise, it's gon na be way too long and bother me two shifts, so you kind of want to match it up with the curl. It'S the side which it means cutting it right in here. So I'm going to pull check again by letting it kind of bounce back cut, throw that away, because I know that the shorter my hair is the more spring factor is because it's lighter. I always cut the bangs a little bit longer than intended. Now, when I let more hair forward, there are longer pieces, but, as I said, I want my bangs, the wispier. I don't want them to be super bulky, so I'm gon na leave these ones longer so that I can still kind of push them off to the side. Just so I have a couple cute curls coming down my face and let's take a look at the other side, shall we take out the curls just around your hairline? I'Ve got some really long pieces here. So first we start on the inside and we work shorter to longer always so, if we look at this curl, the end is thinner, which means it's due for a trim regardless. So I'm gon na trim this thin little end, just the very tip this guy I mean, oh sorry, to say goodbye. I'M gon na cut this one because remember so now, I'm taking them a little bit longer. I'M going to cut it just below in here, keep looking at the big picture before you just keep cutting and cutting and cutting stop step back, evaluate and decide if you need any more now this. This is a weird little curl anyways. This could be from damage. This little wonky end, so I'm just gon na get rid of it for the health of my curls, okay, I like it for now now before you keep cutting and getting too crazy right now I want to just stop once you feel, like you're kind of satisfied. You probably will be satisfied once your hair is freshly washed and styled so wait a couple days once you wash and style your hair evaluate the situation again. Come back watch this video again and if you need to do any further trimming, then you may proceed to do so. Otherwise leave it. I'M sure it's fine! Remember, I'm sure you know. Curly hair is very unpredictable. If you do too much and once well, there's no going back so let it be enjoy your fresh new look and keep those ends healthy. You can apply these same rules of cutting your bangs to any crazy split ends. Remember that healthy hair is happy hair. Thank you guys for watching. I hope you enjoyed this quick little tutorial comment below if you have any further questions. Please like this video, if you like and love me - and I will see you guys next week and every single Tuesday with a brand new video and that's all I have for now so peace. What'S up everybody, where is the camera? I can't see you are you there speak now. Are you first thing? You'Re gon na need is the sharpest pair of scissors. Sharp. Is the sharp the the sharpest pair of scissors that you own

Mari P: Hi! First of all, you are gorgeous! and... I know you said to cut on dry hair but does it matter if is on wash day, second day etc? Thanks!!

Marija R: And here we are, the quarantine club, rewatching this and rethiniking our life decisions

Sruthi S: so I impulsively cut bangs after watching this in the middle of my online class and guess what? I look AMAZING with bangs like WOW THANK YOU!

Nicole Cherisse: I seriously love all of your vids. I’m 38, and I feel like I’m JUST NOW learning how to embrace my curls. So... Thank You :)

Robyn R: One of my worst childhood hair catastrophes (and I've had a few) was when my mom "trimmed" by bangs. They were way too short and looked like a bushy caterpillar at the very top of my forehead. Haven't had bangs since We didn't have YouTube or the internet back then, so my mom did her best with what she knew. Even hair dressers had no clue how to cut or style my hair. Some very rough hair years followed that "incident". And I am so happy that I started really embracing my beautiful curls a few years back & looking forward to trying out the tips you share in your awesome videos!

Kayyy Jayyy: So extremely happy I found this video. The ends of my bangs are so damaged and I haven’t found someone I can trust with my hair. But thanks to you I finally feel confident enough to cut my own bangs and fix a couple weird dead ends that I have. I’m excited to see how this goes. Thank youuu so much!!!

Vanessa Lopez: You truly helped me fall in love with my natural curls

Yurga E: Dear Mell double thank you ! One for making these helpful videos and two for your incredibly great sense of humour. I absolutely love you. Sometimes i watch you just to lift my moods :)))

Lara Pierce: As a fellow cosmetologist going back into the field after two years, I appreciate how much information you parted with. This helps much! ❤

kristine Kerr: Thank you Mell. I am disabled and getting to the hair dresser is nearly impossible. I wish there were stylists that came to your home!!

Aaliyah Rosalina: I really want a tutorial to cut curly bangs, not just trim them

Anna Leach: Man can you show us how to style wavy hair and bangs? I'm finally discovering my naturally wavy hair so until recently I've always curled and styled with a straighter. These things are insane without the help of heat to style them. Especially on the right side where I have this wild curly cowlick

Isabell L.K: Thank you so much for this video! I literally just cut my hair and i freaking love it :D

Keri Hatgirl: Sharp shears! Very important indeed. I used to have bangs but grew them out with the rest of my hair as I hated that ackward phase when they always seemed too long and in my eyes. My hubby has been trimming my hair for me since we first started dating and he has the good hair shears like you were using. They come apart and he actually sharpens them himself using a flat hone sharpening wheel. The convex scissor blades require a special technique different than regular shears. He finishes up polishing the edges with a leather disk. It keeps them razor sharp. I don’t know if you sharpen your own shears, but I know one friend who had her license said she had back up shears as she would send hers out to be sharpened, it would take a week or so and the guy charged her $30 to sharpen them each time.

Putri Agustina: The most frustrating things about cutting dry curly hair is that the next time you wash your hair then the hair curls dont combine like before. So you end up with curls consists of hair with different lengths

Monica Banks: Yeay! Thank you so much! I followed your instructions and I cur my bangs and they look great. I love all your videos Thank you.

Dana Westerkamp: Fabulous!! Love your instructions

Aly Moore: What hair products do you use to not make your hair frizzy?? I’m thinking about getting bangs but I’m worried it’s going to get frizzy because it’s cut shorter

Lilly Saunders: So glad i found a curly version of trimming bangs! About to get some done (by a curly specialist dw) but I just can’t afford to go to the hairdressers every 4+ weeks for up keep.

Spooky: Thank you so much!! I learned so much from this video! Going to try out these techniques rn

Iris Garay: I love this how is your curls so hydrated and perfect my hair is so frizzy still and I’m 3 months in my transitioning to natural curly hair and first cut. Love your hair how do you get rid of frizzy hair

crzyinzan3: What kind of haircut should I ask to get volume on top so I get better curls? I always get layers but the top is still flat. I have thick hair so it weighs the top down.

Keto Foodie: Thanks for this video! What suggestions do you have to communicate to a stylist how I’d like my curly hair cut? I have thin hair and would like something like your style, but reaching just under my shoulders. I ask for layers but never know how much I should ask for. I had “inverted layers” done and liked it, but my hair is one length and the curls are dragging.

Jay H: I NEEDED to see this thank you for sharing your skills!

The_Monster_: I’m about to cut my hair and this was very helpful! Wish me luck

Jasmin Shepherd: This is by far my favourite hair shape on you ❤️

Sweet Lilac: So I have curly hair (a lot like you’re) but the pieces in the front of my face and the pieces in the back are super wavy/straight (my hair doesn’t curl up to the root). Would this be a bad idea for me to do? Because short pieces on my hair are coily unlike the rest of my hair

pipfantasy: I love your hair and I really wish I watched this video before I cut my own fringe over the lock down

makotome: You are so pretty! I've been so tempted to cut some bangs, but haven't had the courage to do so!

Hajar Tarrhi: Finally a good tutorial thank u ♥️

Sofia Duran: How do you stop clumping? My curls will be seperate but then end up all sticking together like one thick rope.

Jeanine: Great advice. So helpful. Thanks.

psychodelic: Here just after I aggressively cut my bangs cause I wanted to looked like Selena even though my hair is curly af

Janice Baker: Love your Hair@!!! THANKS need this for my curly lacefronts

JC7 Blessed: Mellilcious definition makes them curls go loco!!! The close up angle really brings out the definition.

Terena: Hey! I don’t know if you’ll see this, BUT is there anyway you can incorporate into a video, how to tell if you have split ends or how to know when you need a trim? Thank you! Love, love, LOVE your videos!! ❤️

Nicolle Hanna: Me watching this about to trim my own hair You saying you don’t condone amateurs My husband looking at me like DONT DO IT

Heather Sexton: can you do a tutorial on how to style a curly/wavy fringe I just cut my bangs but they arent quite curly but and super wavy so im kinda lost on how to make it look manageable! thank you!

Cesia Saravia: This video was soo informative. Not at all what I was expecting

JoEllen C: Good god your hair is amazing! My curly hair doesn’t look half as good as yours! What products do you use?!?

Katka Barienčíková: Thank your video I cut my bangs :3 and I am happy how it is look like ❤❤

eixela xxx: Ugh I love the bang look on my hair but I’m in the process of growing it out again after a big chop from may of 2018. Its currently at my lower neck ( collar bone if wet and stretched) but it’s so un even and I don’t want to even it out until it’s a little longer. The top half of my hair is way shorter than the bottom(bc of the way i had it styled when all cut off) and its starting to look silly. I can get my hair in a slick back bun except the bangs curl up and out just like yours in the front

Autumn Apollonia: Love the bangs on you!

xDwelleR: My hair is in my face till my lips and my curls are as long as yours but a little shorter till my lower neck than shoulders. I’m tired of wearing a headband. I may try this. I first wana get my split ends done and front hair by a professional and there after try your method. I also trim my beard and used to get haircuts, I’m not a barber but I know Damon well how cutting and stuff works. She knows exactly what the hell she’s talking about and makes absolute sense! Well explained! Subbed. We men have curls too. Not any good Male channels Here.

Ciara Rozet: I remember when I was 14 and still straightening my hair, I had my bangs cut like Fefe Dobson’s... It didn’t look as good on me and it’s probably because I also really sucked at straightening my hair.

Tom Schneider: Your hair is so beautyful and you cut it so good with you could cut my hair too

Lori: Sorry Gorgeous I have one more question do you only use the aveda curl enhancer or do you also use a leave in conditioner?

Carlie C: Thankyou for being informative but not boring with it I appreciate it sm

Lovely Little ExJW: Hi Mell, what scissors are you using to cut your hair? I'm currently in school to be a stylist

Liz-Tastic: The info I always wanted

Linda Abbott: There was a little girl who had a little curl right down the middle of her forehead, when she was good she was very very good, but when she was bad she was horrid . You are so good

Nicola Ritcy: I would love for you to do my hair!!!! If I'm ever in Toronto I'm coming your way! Love your videos!!!!

BooknerdJebbi: When you pointed at that curl and called it weird practically all of my hair ends like this

noa aliu: i love your hair! what products do you use?

Kimber Lee: Omg I’m flying to Toronto to have you cut my hair

CestmoiLulu R: Gorgeous ❤️

Valerie Ibarra-Meyer: Do you have any tips on cutting short curly hair? My son wants and needs a haircut, but with Salons still closed he's getting fed up with it and has mentioned shaving it off!!! HELP!!!

Mandee Keefer: I have a Manes by Mell folder that I put your videos in, which I find SUPER helpful, so I can go back to them, for a reference point on any troubles or questions I may have later

Glitch Bookworm: I love how when you talk, your hair just trembles! xD It's cute!

Lori: I’m sooooo sorry for bugging you so much but when you bleach your hair do you use a 20 volume or a 30 vol? The reason I’m asking is I use a 30 to be platinum but I don’t use toner because purple shampoo works for me to take the yellow out because my natural shade is a level 6/7 so that’s why I could pull it off but I really like your level so what volume developer do you use please?

Aura Wright Media: Those are some crazy curls. I'd have to spend an hour with a diffuser to get mine to that level. Mine have 'moods' and some moods are curlier than others.

Francine Marcelin: I thoroughly enjoy your videos about hair; however, I simply MUST ask you: What is that gorgeous lipstick you are wearing here? Brand and color, please. Thanks, Mell!

Alisa Laska: I want bangs but I’m scared because my curls are not real tight so I’m afraid they will flip out all over and I’ll have to use hot tools to get them to lay right. Idk what to do. Anyone have any advice?

Athulya Ranjit: i have a pretty round face shape which makes me nerves to cut bangs plus not always my hair turns curly as days go by without wash it turns wavier. what do you suggest? i really want bangs tho

Anna: Could you do a video on what face shapes look good with which kinds of curly bangs (there's a brad mondo video but he just does not know anything about curly hair)

Mahooi: I never had bangs in my life so yea imagine how I feel about not seeing anything plus my eye sight is the worst to begin with..

Zonaida Rodriguez: So what do you do if someone who has not experienced with curly hair hacks it beyond repair ?

AlizMari23: Mell: *teaches us how to use scissors* Me: *36 and feeling dumb now* I was today years old when I started to reevaluate what I learned about scissors in kindergarten.

Emily Howe: Hi, first THANK YOU! I'm 45, been dealing with my curls (very much like yours especially in front) my whole life. I had a hairdresser for a long time BUT she is no longer an option. So I tried on my own (huge mistake) which brings me to now. I went to a deva curl salon (mistake) that gave me a Dora the explora cut.. so now it is a curly triangle. Covid has me home and I am going stir crazy looking at my hair.. I'm trying to get my hair like yours over time as it grows.. for now I just nee to change the shape from triangle to oval.. please help

AlohaxMaya #roadto150: I really want bangs but.. idk how it would look like with my curly hair-

B_N: I have a question, cause i really want to cut bangs with my curly hair, but i often need to put my hair in a ponytail for work, but isnt it diffucult with bangs? And is it hard to style the bangs in the morning?

JC7 Blessed: 1 down 3 to go. Mell I can't believe your hair was so short. I thought your current long hair was the best but even your short hair looks great its officially a tie.

msshorty681: What if you’re just wanting to get bangs in your hair and your bangs aren’t that curly to begin with? Would you still cut it dry?

Hennessy Mediavilla: I want to try curly bangs but I feel that I look sooooo dumb with bangs :/ Fantastic tutorial though! #Subscribed

callan uwu: me, sitting here, acting like i didn’t shave my head 4 months ago fjfbfbfnfn

rea: i’m sooo jealous of your defined haaiiirrrr

Ramaya Stowell: My issue is that I have a lot of clients that have curly hair and when i tell them I'd prefer to cut their hair dry some look at me like i am crazy and the other half are usually okay with it..but how should I explain to them the reasoning for cutting it dry like I'll try to explain it the best I can but they still don't seem to understand

HankySpanky: This is a weird thing.... CHOP. Made my day! :)

Rina Jane Casas: Omg ! They are noodles.. cute curls

Claudia Cecilia: What if I don’t have bangs but I want to get curly bangs? I don’t want to go to hairdresser just because I’ve always had horrible experience

Veronica Adithi: Wow beautiful curls...could you also do a video when you are styling some one's hair so that we will know how the cut should be as we don't have curly hair stylist in our country.

Sophia Lazuli: You’re adorable! What’s your insta? Love the curls btw!

Nina Rai: Love your hair

Hedi Bernecker: Klasse

Niamh Faleiro: Where do you cut hair at? I need you to cut my hair!!

Lori: You are so beautiful I have a question for you I have been brushing my bangs straight to the side and even a part in the middle and the rest of my hair curly but when I tried my bags curly they go all wavy straight and not curly like the rest of my hair why is that I also have bleached platinum hair

Ash Romo: so much goes into cutting curly hair and straight is just snip snip

sall 123: I just don t understand how ur bleached hair looks that undamaged I-

Mowann BLANC: Does it looks good on big forehead??? I wanna have curly bang but I’m afraid that the result will not look good bc of my forehead

Jennifer Marie Rios: what if you have big chunky curls, and they are really far apart.....

Michelle Hitt: I have to straighten my bangs because they don't do right. Do you have any advice?

Amanda Guido: love love love it

haley: I've rewatched this so many times but the part about where in the curl to cut makes NO sense! Can you please explain further? Are you cutting where it comes closest to your skin, or where it's farthest away? Or somewhere in between? Help! I have the scissors in my hands now! Haha

Анастасия Мельник: I have no stylist for curly in my city. So I have to do it by my self

Pien Weierink: I really want to cut my bangs, I need to stop watching these videos

karla Perez: Can you give a tutorial on how to cut your own curly hair? Please

Desoraéna Emilien: At the end you say like 'shissors', well for me, here in germany 'shissors', or how we would write it ,,schisser" is like 'pooper' - someone who is a scaredy cat that would pooped his pants. XD

Heather Spencer: Ughhh I wish you could cut my hair!

MrsHNKeller: ♥️

Dimitra Mouratidou: howwww do you not get a headache with so much hair on your face :( i like bangs so much but i cannot stand a strand of hair on my face
