How To Cut Curly Bangs DIY / Spring Hairstyle Refresh w/ CURLS

All products shown are available at http://curls.biz

Hi Friends! I have been asked how I cut my curly bangs many times, and I knew I was in need of a trim so I decided I would film the easy process. Please keep in mind that you must consider your shrinkage when cutting bangs, I personally do not get too much shrinkage because my curls are looser at the top of my head. If you get more shrinkage, I would suggest cutting the curls how they fall naturally rather than pulling them to elongate them when you trim ( otherwise the shrinkage will be way more than you expected! )

Hey Brent, I'm back with a new video and I've teamed up with curls to share my little spring cleaning routine. Don'T worry, I'm still talking about hair now, every spring I get this urge to switch things up. If you followed me for a while, you already know this I've either dye my hair or I cut it, but this year, I'm all about embracing my natural color and I'm actually trying to gain some length. That being said, I like to keep my signature style going with my curly bangs, so I'm keeping those and I'm just trying to get them looking refreshed for the spring. So, as you can see, my bangs need some serious love. So before I break out the scissors, I like to start by deep conditioning my hair, so that I get a good feel for how my curls are going to fall without any product added. This way I can actually trim the exact amount that I want so that my bangs are ended up too short or still too long and kind of in my way. So I have fine low-density curls and most of my hair is a bit looser on the top of my head. So it's really important that I start off with a great deep conditioner to get my curls sitting right before I cut it. I like to cut my hair when it is in it's curling condition, and it is dry. So, first off I'm going to start with a deep conditioner that I absolutely love by curls and it's the blueberry blitz, reparative hair masque. I'Ve mentioned this before, but in case you're new. Here there are no sulfates, silicones, parabens, artificial oils or colors or fragrances smells amazing, and it's really really great and nourishing for your hair. I actually love the whole blueberry blitz line, but I haven't showed the mask in a while. So I really wanted to share this with you, because this is the process that I take before. I will go in and trim my hair after having the deep conditioner sit on my hair for a good 20 minutes. I rinse it out and leave my hair without any product added, and I just let my hair air dry and fall how it would fall naturally, and these are the results. This is just from that conditioner. As you can see. I am very pleased with this and I will likely wear my hair like this. Pretty often during the spring in the summer I love a wash and go and easier the better. I it's very fluffy. I get a lot of movement. Of course there is some frizz, but on some days I just like this look. That being said, because I don't have a leave-in conditioner defining my curls, my bangs kind of just fall it a bit flat. As I said, the top of my hair tends to be a bit looser. So, as you can see, a block side vision a little bit and it's just it's getting a little bit too cheap doggish or you know it's just in my face. So I want to make sure that I am trimming it while it's falling like this, because when I do add that leave-in conditioner it's going to spring up anyways. But I do want the option of being able to wear it without a lot of styling product in somedays. Now you know I'm a DIY kind of girl, so I always cut my hair myself. I'M using cutting shears from a beauty supply store, and I like to divide my bangs into three stages. This adds a layered look that gives the illusion of more density. Now I leave the first layer the longest and then I cut slightly shorter for the middle and, of course, the shortest at the top. This creates a look of a graduated volume, sort of feel for my curls once they are styled so for all my girls out there that have see-through curls or flat top curls. Like me, this is my little secret for volume. Now I know what some of you are thinking yeah, but how does this look when it's straight honestly, I don't straighten my hair. I have no desire to straighten my hair, but one straight hair. I just throw on a straight wig so for me to take the chance to cut my own hair while it's curly, it's okay for me, because I know I'm not going to straighten it. I just have no desire whatsoever and of course that is no shade to anyone with straight hair. I just have low density hair so to see it straight, it's really not doing much for me, so these are the results just from a quick dry cut. I didn't take off a whole bunch. I took off enough so that I can see clearly - and I, like the look of you, know, see my eyebrows now and then or even my eyes for that matter. But now I'm going to show you how it looks when I do my normal routine, including some styling products. The reason I use styling products sometimes is so that I get more days out of my curls. If I go without the products, I have more frizz. Of course, which I take out mine, I like to look afraid. Sometimes blackboards frizz causes more tangles for me and I'm not trying to lose any more hair. So I'll show you how this looks after I go in with the blueberry blitz, reparative leave-in conditioner, that I love as well from that collection, and it gives a more defined look as you can see and you'll get a feel for how my bangs actually look. Now that they're styled so because I am trying to grow out my hair, it is key for me to keep my hair hydrated, and so, when I am in between washes, I like to add a bit of the hair growth oil to keep my hair nourished and Protected and moisturized, it's actually a lighter consistency than the leave-in conditioner. If you're someone with similar it hair to me, it's not like a coconut oil or olive oil or typical oils. That'S going to weigh down your hair, it's actually very, very lightweight and it smells delicious and, as you can see it just you adds a really nice shine and luster to your curls without weighing them down. So I hope you enjoyed my little spring cleaning, slash refresh session here with my DIY bangs trim, and also my deep conditioning, routine hair growth, oil and leave-in conditioning styling. All these products will be listed down below for you guys as usual. I would love to know in the comments. What are you planning to do with your hair this spring or summer? If you are planning to switch things up, I would love to know and thank you for watching this video. I will see you guys in the next one bye for now.

Cara Mitchell: Who's here 2020 contemplating messing with their hair like everyone else but needs to do their research first because they just can't risk winging it with their curls??

Liliana Condratov: Who hates when wind destroys your bangs?

Nia Snow: I am not just saying this. but even with no makeup you're so beautiful, like beyond your imperfections you have exotic features.

Yellow Flowers: "I have no desire to straighten my hair" yassssss I have gotten to that point since transitioning and I haven't straightened my hair since then. I was someone who did it everyday for 7 years and had waist length hair but it got boring

gilizzle: I was literally screaming "Omg I love it" as if it was my haircut

Nnenna Kalu: I really want to do this, but i'm scared i'll mess up.

Jade Beth J: It looks so soft! That color is so cute! I love everything about this video lol

MakeUPbyKiani: Planning to grow mine out as much as possible this Summer. New subbie, embracing my curls. Your style is so cute!!!

thrift flip: I’m so planning to cut my bangs today, this will help my mom with cutting my hair. Thank you

Amanda Smith: Okay so I'm waaaay late to this video, but I just wanted to say that I LOVE it! I have struggled to find a video that gives a good explanation of hydrating and cutting curly hair and bangs. This helped me so much. My hair looks very similar to your before. My hair doesn't curl as tight, but it is a similar texture. Love the idea of the layered bangs for volume. I tried this at home and it worked perfect! Can't wait to try the curls products!

_saunti_: 2:05 what you mean there’s no product?! It looks HELLA GOOD!!

Niki M.: FINALLY, I've found someone with hair exactly like mine! It's been challenging. I've only started embracing my curls the passed couple of years. I've straightened it most of my life. However, because of medical issues, my hair started falling out. I rocked a baldy for awhile but missed my hair. I had to stop everything: blowing, coloring, etc. I decided to let the curls loose to get that full look I like. The curly-coaster ride hasn't been too bad, except for finding products that enhance my lioness mane. The one thing that's helped is keeping a healthy hair care regime, which has allowed my hair to grow strong. I've since been able to color it again, YIPPIE!!! I only straighten it on occasion, which I don't like as much anymore (Go figure). I LOVE MY CURLS!!! It's just taking forever to grow longer. My curls are so tight. It looks like I only have an inch of hair. I haven't found anything yet to stretch out my passed shoulder length hair. I'm so grateful I found you. I know I'm going to get so much more out of my curlilocks now. Ty. Big hugs!!! I'm go to try this layering method to get more volume.

Erica Johnson: Love the technique for more volume in the bangs! Just watched and cut my own! Thank you thank you. You’re a great vlogger!

A Butterfly in Christ: You’re lying! You put the curls deep condition in and your hair came out looking like you left the salon???? ‍♀️ Wow! I’m impressed

Daliddle1: After watching your video and seeing the before and after, I just had to buy the spray bottle and hair cream! I'm so excited to be getting this! Thank you for a great informative video! BTW, you are so beautiful! Stunning really... Exotic!

hellabellatho: I'm going to the salon tomorrow with this video queued so she knows how to cut my bangs. I wish I could use the Blueberry bliss line! I've heard such great things but it breaks me out sooooooo badly.

Christine Muma: I used your method to cut my bangs and side hair today and they FINALLY came out looking nice. No more patchy or mullet hair. I was aimlessly cutting random pieces of hair at the top, back, sides, bottom, almost daily, just trying to fix the mess I created months ago. My hair wasn't getting longer because I was always chopping at it. Now I'm ready to let it grow out, soooo happy.

Âni Caputo: You are a goddess!! I love your voice. And your style. And your hair.face.personality. Oh. My. God. I'm going to binge watch all of your videos now. Thank you so much for the tutorials, you're a life-saver! My hair has been so bland and lackluster for what feels like forever and I had pretty much given up on it bc my curls just don't ever seem to look very stylish. I basically have a mop on my head. I figured I just didn't have the type of hair that could look pretty. But you've given me hope and I'm totally going to try your tips and I'm actually excited to cut my hair for a change. Thank you sososo much!! I'm fangirling so hard right now. I appreciate you so much!

Livi Smith: pretty hair!!! I just got my hair cut shoulder length, and I'm not sure how to feel. someday I want to have curly bangs, but I think I'll get them when I get my first deva cut. I hope to do that in February, in celebration of being heat and chemical free!

CrazedDreamer: So happy I found your channel!!!! I have similar hair and needed allll these tips thank you so much!

Muttix Onlymuttix: Thank you so much! Haven't done bangs in awhile but looking for a change this spring as I continue growing out the madness. Going to try this technique today.

Senjah: I just gave my out grown bangs the best trim ever thanks to your video

Luisa Louis: That's a great video! thanks so much for sharing your tips on how to cut a bang. Your hair type is very close to mine so I appreciate when you share your tips on how to manage hair. I have fried my hair when I dyed it blond last spring. It has been almost a year and although I love love love my blond ends, I am not going to do anything to my hair and try to let it grow this year. Just trim it once or twice maybe but that's it. I would love to have my hair touch my shoulders and still have nice defined curls. So I'm going to work on that.

LevelUP: Beautiful. Your the reason why I took the leap and cut mine and I love it. Looks just like this as we have the same kind of hair. Thank you.

Leslie P: Finally found my hair twin YAAAAY I've seen so many videos and I finally found someone with the same hair texture AND fine hair. I've been contemplating on getting bangs because of the fineness of my hair but now you made it look good

Karma De Santos: Great vid! I have similar hair and since ive been growing it out the curls have been stretching out even more (because of the weight) which has left me with the dilema of being a flat-top! Ppl are charging crazy prices for haircuts also so diy is def the way to go. Thank you!

millennia burnett: Subscribed right away! I love your videos. I have the same type of curls so your videos have helped so much!!!

Style & Poise: So, I just recently decided to have my hair cut to resemble more of a curly fro and I also wanted bangs. Very similar to your hair. However, I wasn't happy with the bangs because they looked so thin and fell flat. Thanks for this video because I am going to go back to the salon and see if she can layer my bangs for more volume and density. This video was right on time. Love your hair as always!

HairByPierre: Your hair has gotten so longgg! I'm loving it long!

qrl fithoop: Beautiful & love the fact that you dont conform to the masses. Say no to flat iron hair! Go curly hair! Blessings

Sarah Magdi: you have no idea how happy I am for having found your channel! you are the first one i find with almost the same hair as me, thin and less curly at the top, yet somehow you make it look so beautiful! I was planning to get bangs some time soon when my hair (maybe) gets thicker and you gave me so much hope omg. i have 2 questions tho; how did you cut your hair that way (aside from the bangs) in a way that the layers give your hair more volume, do u have a tutorial for that? also, for me, unless i style and diffuse my hair while my head is upside down i have flat roots :( do u have any tips for that? thanks in advance :3

Ivee Rod: Thank you so much. I was cutting my bangs wrong.

Allyanna Nygaard: My mom did this and she looks good. But she didn't part the bangs from as far back as the lady in the video. She didn't want to commit to that much bangs just incase it didn't workout. P.S. if you have curly hair use CURLS hair products, you will not regret it

I don't know if my hair is quite as thick but laying down and brushed out my hair is almost identical to yours... yeahh yours might be thicker than mine but similar curl so I can at the least work with your process

Tina Christina: If you’re scared to do anything different to your hair just remember that hair grows back and what’s the worst that could happen? If it’s too short for you pin it back

Joy Fryc: We have the same hair goals! Natural color/length

Skylar Stevenson: Her hair is so pretty
