Thanks for being Part Of The FSE FAMILY!

What'S up guys so on today's video, what we're gon na be focusing on is the really popular curtain fringe that you've probably been seeing all over social media and different people's pictures. So this is supposed to be a very popular trend for 2018. I could see that actually happening because they're, really it's not a big transformation for people, but it's a nice, soft and cool change that you can give your guests. So a couple things that we're really gon na focus on in this video is how to break up the fringe. So it's not so blunt feeling, and also the cool thing about these bangs is that it gets a little bit longer off to the side, which is where I believe that they're getting that name curtain fringe. So it kind of opens up across the face. Lays nice along the cheekbone area, so really cool haircut. If you have questions post them in the comments below, but let's get started, alright guys. So the first thing that I'm gon na do is brush out the hair using my ago diamond brush. This is a new brush that I've gotten. The thing I love about this brush is that I'm always a paddle brush fan, but sometimes the paddle brush is just too big, so this is just a miniature version of a paddle brush, so I brushed the hair back. I find the center parting and then I go in and I look for that curve of the head right on the forehead area, which is usually about two inches from the hairline. I find the balance in the comb and then that's where I draw that triangle. To section off the fringe, a lot of people have difficulties figuring out where, to section the fringe, I find balancing my comb right. There really gives me an opportunity to find out where that hair is gon na fall forward and where it's gon na fall off to the side. So I braid that all away and then what I'm gon na do is I'm gon na brush the hair back and put it into a ponytail just cuz, I'm not gon na cut the rest of the hair in this video. So I wanted to section it away now. I would always do that triangle section, no matter what haircut I'm doing, but obviously I wouldn't put the hair in a ponytail every single time. So now I'm gon na go through I'm using that Diamond Head brush. This is the benefit of the brush, because it's smaller, you can a little bit of lift, so I'm gon na go through lift the hair up now. A key thing with the fringe is to make sure it's got a nice natural fall to it. Instead of going in and using a lot of tight tension, so I wouldn't want to go in and blow dry with my comb or anything. It'S gon na have a lot of tension to it or like a Denman brush, but I go through and the diamond brush gives me a nice light, medium tension, let's call it, but I can also leaf it and lift it up to give it that volume. Then I go through is my vibra straight iron. I go diagonal. One way then diagonal back the other way, and that gives me the shape of the forehead in a nice smooth feel to that fringe area. So now the scissor choice that I'm gon na make is the Mizutani puffin scissor. It'S a five and a half inch scissor that I'm choosing and the reason I chose this is because obviously we're doing dry cutting it's a dry cutting scissor. I love the feel of the blade on dry hair. It'S got a nice smooth feel to it, but also you should always have a dry cutting scissor. That kind of separates from your precision scissor, because cutting hair dry with your precision scissor can dull it faster. So I use this scissor, it's got a lot of power, it's got a really thick blade, a nice sharp point to it and I go through and I use a tease cutting technique. So I'm pinching everything right in front of the nose and I go through and half close that scissor and slide it back and forth until I cut through that whole section now. What I'm gon na do is over direct it even more over the edge of the eye, so the opposite eye on the opposite side of the head, because that's gon na give me an extreme kind of push of that weight. Now the curtain fringe you're gon na notice a disconnection, but the curtain fringe is much longer towards the side and off the off that edge of the eye. So I like to do that disconnection first, then I'll show you guys the technique that I go through to connect those two edges together, so extreme over direction, and then I go through. You can see how it pops off there I go through. I smooth it out again with my iron because a lot of times when you smooth something that's longer, it gets a different type of Bend. So I just bend it with the curve of the head and then I go through and I do some point cutting to connect those two points together. So I keep my in a diagonal and I go through with that. Puffin scissor and point cut to connect those two points together, so I just keep lifting it up now, also notice how much I'm lifting it off the head. A lot of people do that super low, the higher you lift it. The more feathered look you're gon na get with the fringe. So now it goes through. I'M gon na do some leafing. I'M gon na blow dry the rest of the hair cuz. I want you to see the finished look altogether, but I also have one more technique that we're gon na throw in to create this curtain fringe. So bangs are a little more complicated than people. Then people think they are so now. I'M going in with my type z, dual texture, scissor and I'm just gon na glide through the tips of the of that fringe and just soften it even more so sometimes that T's cutting technique. It doesn't make it quite as soft as I wanted it to. I push that weight over. I connected the two dots and now I go through with the type Z, dual texture and there's our end result. Hope you like it guys alright guys, like always, if you like this cut, then make sure you hit the like button hit. The share button share this video with all of your friends and make sure you go to free salon. Education, comm, check out more videos and purchase any other tools that you saw on this video. Also, one thing I would love to hear from you is: what do you want to see on an upcoming video? Any techniques, any different looks different things we can create on the videos coming up so get involved, guys post in the comments below. Thank you so much for watching this video I'll, see you soon.

miy: thank you this will be so helpful when im having a mental breakdown

David Campbell: Everyone has their prospective as to where the bangs should start. This dude just gave accurate info on where and how to find the best points. Thanks for clarity!

Inochi Shears: Thanks for bringing the point out that using your precision scissor for dry cutting can dull it faster. With Dry Cutting becoming more and more popular, we're sharpening precision shears far more frequently. It's better to get a shear designed for Dry Cutting than to cause increased wear on your other shears. Great video tutorial.

Douglas Paster: Matt, you often take different grips on the scissors for more comfortable cutting. I’ve tried, but then the steady blade is upside down, or my scissors fold hair like they’re in the wrong hand. Would love if you could teach a more detailed lesson on different scissor grips or alternative scissor holding techniques to improve comfort/speed/accessibility/etc.

Lyn K: Thanks for doing the curtain bangs! I'm going for a hair appt in May and want my stylist to give me these if possible.

Odette Uys: Hi Matt would love to see you cut a jaw length bob with layers, but in a really up-to-date 2018 way!

Princess Lupi: I'm not a pro or even a student, but I love watching your styling tutorials. I even get brave and try techniques on myself with pretty good results. Thanks!

Gillian Pidler: Watching you cut hair is addictive, genius!! Thank you :)

Terri S.: Just beautiful! I love curtain bangs. As others have already mentioned, I too would like to see hair trends for 2018--- for short, medium, and long hair. As a new subscriber, I thank you!

Stephanie Martinez: I love your videos! I just want you to know how much they help me understand and better my techniques! Thank you!

ThePixievamp: Great job! My bangs are probably one of the most important part of my hair. I get so frustrated where I am because I can't seem to find hairdressers that see it the way you do. Those are the way I like my bangs. I wish you were near me in NJ!

Ashlie Allen: I wish you could do my hair. I no longer have bangs, but I loved them a lot. Due to some horrific experiences at the salon, I gave up on having them and grew them out. I love this look though. It's timeless and very feminine.

Lysett Cuervo: Loved this can't wait to try it ‍♀️

decaf espresso: loves it!!!. always awesome videos and tutorials

jillisa kingfisher: You are awesome, I'm a student in hairstylist classes and these videos are so helpful! Thank you.

Dalila Vargas: Something I struggle with is when I’m doing short cuts, it’s sometimes hard to transition the back to the front.. like once I get to the back of the ear, the transition to the front can be a bit confusing depending on the cut.. hope that makes sense, hard to explain but hopefully u got it.. I would love a video about that.. thanks for all your dedication! Your videos really help in the salon..

Phil Hovey: That's such a slick technique !! I'd love to see new ways to collapse the internal shape on the back of the head while using one length or other "weighty" haircuts

Lysett Cuervo: What I would like to see next is how to do a v shaped haircut with no layering the easiest way possible to get both sides even & debulked

bahar sharifdini: Thank you soooo much for your helpful tipps. I want to know how to have the same soft not heavy hair in the face framing part.

Brittany Stockwell: Great technique! Thanks for the tips.

Dulkank: Lots of layers for a curly long hair please!!!!!!! wonderful job!!!!

B C: Yes these are Brigitte Bardot style curtain bangs! You can part it in the middle or not.. perfect

Andrew Monique: Hey Matt, thanks so much for sharing, I've had a few clients asking for them.  I'd love to see some tips on keeping a very short women's cut, super feminine or some long disconnected shaggy cuts...  Thank you!  TMHairstylez

Jennifer Garrow: I just love your tutorials . Thank you , kindly!

millie210: Nice technique but I would have loved to have seen you style them more like curtain bangs. When clients ask for curtain bangs they describe split in the middle slightly flared/feathered out to the sides with movement. The finished look just looks like straight blunt bangs. No hate, just my opinion

Luci Staker: Thank you so much! So helpful

Adrienne: Hi Matt Do u think any certain hair type or face shape should stay away from these bangs ? Also more 2018 hair trends for both cut and color on long hair Thank you

Susan Anderson: Great technique! Thank you!

hairbyadam: Absolutely love this fringe!

truncate7: Would like to see that with a feathered look; going in towards the face. Also if you're intending to colour the hair, do you colour before or after the cut???

karin winfree: I love this cut I wish when I’ve had bangs they were like this. Mine are always so bushy and so then I grow them back out

Amanda Cox: Loved this! Thank you!

Tsunamii Angel: Damnnn he's so freakin perfect. Wish he was my hair stylist!!! Love the the bangs style ❤

Gina D'Andrea: Can you please make a tutorial showing hoow to cut curtain bangs by overdirecting, but without tease cutting. Using precision cutting to cut the bangs will help me understand the overdirection technique.

Raquel silva andrade: Gosto dos seus cortes gênio das tesouras!

Warda Mukhtari: Thanks u are amazing always good hair cut with easy technics may God bless u & ur team☺

Teresa Kouf: I really love the way that curtain bang looks

Jacque B: I love this look!

Gary Harden: Love it .. also have the vibra-straight flat iron (love it as well)

Gina D'Andrea: It's hard for me to do this while you're tease cutting. I need you to clearly show details like how you section it, and the different angles and curves.

shar: this was the only video that demo cutting side bangs for either side..... thank you!

K C: Really enjoyed your video. I am going white around the circumference of my head, and the back is totally brown. How can I get some matching white streaks in the back of my hair? Went to a salon but the streaks turned out yellow. A video would sure be Great! Thanks!

Leanne Hewett: Hi matt I love your technique how do you do that teasing cutting at first can you do a video on that please thanks Leanne

Ron Sherrod: Very nice ! Great shear work.

Tina DeSeta: I’d love to see a shorter, faded cut on men’s hair that has stubborn cowlicks, including how to style it best of course. I feel like I do a decent job with that type of hair, but it feels like there’s still some technique that I could refine.

Melissa Culpepper: I would love to see more techniques for maximizing volume for more mature women with thinning, finer hair

Gimz-Grins: Saturday I left someone unhappy with their cut. She had so so much hair and she wanted a bob I couldn’t get around to making it look good on her... :/ do you have any videos on that?? How to go around with people with thick and a lot of hair?

Katie McCaskill: Hey Matt! Awesome video! Where do you get the tripod stand?

Natalie Loves: This helped me find the perfect triangle and I do usually struggle with that.

B.R.: Great video! Thanks for sharing ☺

Gina D'Andrea: Do the outer points of the triangle go to the highest point of the eyebrow or the outer corner of the eyebrow?

Gina D'Andrea: @MattBeck - You are my style icon with your black hat. That's how I dress, too.

Kezya: Hi :) I just found u and I love your videos :) thank you❤️do u ever travel places and do classes ?

César Guerrero: Matt, thanks for the video you are so amazing! And cute

Rodilyn Tantengco: Wow very nice cut and technique..hope fully more video for cutting new hair this 2018..thank you for sharing the video God bless.

Polina Sh: Amazing! Thanks

Helba: Does this work with a cowlick? Bangs suit my face, but it's impossible to keep them straight and even and I always get a split in my bangs because of a cowlick...

Sandi Styles: Every time I use my regular shears on dry hair like you are it pulls.

Lisa Mercey: Love your videos your talented

Diana .ForGodsGlory: Thanks for this vid and that is free!
