Hi guys welcome back to my channel. Normally I like to start off the video with the end result, but here we are today starting up with this mess, so I feel like since we've all been in quarantine at the only thing that I've done for my hair. Other than washing it and conditioning it is my roots, and I've only done that once and my poor hair feels it so today, I'm gon na be showing you how to trim your hair at home the correct way trimming your hair is actually not difficult, and you Can absolutely do it without watching your hair? You just have to understand a few things and I've done a few, a hair trimming videos in the past at different lengths, but I do feel right now. People are taking their hair into their own hands much more because of our current situation, so I figured that I would do my part and teach you how to do it the correct way. Alright. So, first of all, this is my hair, just naturally air-dried. So I'm just gon na quickly go over, which steps I take before blowing out my hair so that I then can trim my hair and the haircare part that I'm gon na be showing you. I do this every time that I shampoo my hair and then I trim my hair. I wish I could say more often, but I trim it about every two to three months and the last time I got my hair cut was the last time that I had extensions put in by my friend Pedro. So I am definitely do alright. So, first step in my hair care, which I've shown you guys before, is I like to go in with old places, number six and you're going to see the lake the frizz mess that we start off with and just the amount of shine and like. I always feel like blonde just looks so much better, so you saw the teeny amount. I got just kind of run it through my fingers and we can just start playing. You can see that as I apply it, I feel like the blonde. Just pops just like instantly makes blonde like shinier and when blonde hair is shiny, it looks brighter. So let's say my hair is about 95 percent dry now. So this is when I like to go in and do an easy blowout all right. So I've gone ahead and blowed up my hair. You can go over it with a straightening iron, just to get it more sleek and straight if you do have curlier to wave your hair. Just because when you cut your hair, you want it to be as smooth as possible so that you can see what you're doing so. I'Ve definitely been seeing a lot of these like a miracle trick. Haircut tutorials one is where you like, put your hair in a very like high ponytail, and you just cut straight across and you're supposed to let the hair down, and it's supposed to give you these beautiful flowy layers. Obviously, that a lot goes into doing a really good layered cut. So for today's video, what I'm going to teach you is to trim up the haircut you already have so the first rule is: if your hair is about here or longer, you can do it completely by yourself and just pull everything forward and you can cut your Hair that way, if your hair is anything kind of shorter than here or about collarbone length, you will need someone to help you with the back so pulling all your hair back and telling the person that's gon na, be helping you. If you want a blunt like a straight across line or if you want a little bit more roundness and I definitely recommend it sticking to the shape you already have so if you already have rounded continue with that shape, it's a lot easier working on a ship. That'S already there I've been rather to try and create a new shape, say you want to cut off two inches or one inch I would always say, leave at least a quarter inch longer than you want your hair to end up with, because you're still going to Go in and do the point cutting to make that haircut, look expensive and look like a salon, quality haircut so because my hair is technically long enough for me to do myself. We are going to be doing that. So my current haircut is a blunt cut. Slightly shorter in the back, so we are just going to continue on that slope and the best way is to separate this whole side. Part in half so kind of separating just a little bit behind the ears and grabbing this whole section and trying to keep it as parallel and without elevating. You want to keep it pretty straight as the hair would grow, then, once you have that locked in your fingers, you can trim that a little bit easier. Okay, so I'm going to do for that section. Then let it go see how it moves. If there is like a kind of blunt line, looks great so then I'm going to take that front section now and do the same thing, bring it down just clean up that line now. Another thing: it's very common for you to have one side of the head that is longer for me. It forever will be this side and the side you sleep on the most, which generates more heat for a prolonged period of time, so those follicles get really happy and grow longer hair. So this is a great opportunity to kind of even it out if you'd like so once we have that line pretty established, we're happy with the length we are ready to go into the next step and for anyone who would shorter hair, you would be pulling it All back and you would have someone and trim it up for you all right once we've established a shape now we can go in and perfect it now. If you do have some layering, I have some soft layering just kind of done with a razor, so you can tell. I do have some shorter pieces, I'm just going to use scissors today and I'm just going to trim off the very ends of the hair, not at all creating a new shape and you're. Just gon na go vertically down the head going all the way around. As you saw, I started in the back and I'm working my way forward, pulling that section out and doing the exact same thing. So basically, what you're doing is just trimming up kind of those dead ends just to clean it up, as you can see, there's no lines and by bringing your hair up this way to a 90 degree angle, when that hair falls is going to be a lot Softer, so that's how you're going to prevent any straight across or just not good aligns in the hair so again bring it out. When you have about an inch and a half or so left of the hair, then you can bring it forward to have kind of a better view of the hair and just go into it just by point cutting and really you're just kind of getting into that. First quarter inch of the hair, as you can see, it's not a blunt line, still looks really soft and if you see an end of it that doesn't look happy. It'S looking dry, just cut it off individually, but we want to keep that softness. So you can see when the hair Falls. It looks really healthy but falls really evenly. You really don't have to do a lot for this step, for it to be a big help to your overall hair health and then doing my front pieces, which I consider my bangs, because they are a little bit more disconnected from the rest of the hair. Same thing and then doing the exact same thing to the other side, all right once you are done with that step, there's only one more thing you need to do, and that is to just separate the top half of the hair. So now we're left with this bottom half. So what we're doing is grabbing similar sections as we did, but this time instead of elevating the hair, we are just going to bring it down as when you were creating that perimeter and instead of coming down all the way down, we are going to leave a Good two inches of hair, so that we can go in and point cut so going in and vertically slicing into the hair and, as you can see, we're not losing a ton. This is just to soften the haircut now, if you're, someone that has a ton of hair and someone just helped you in the back and create it a very blunt line when their moves, it's not going to be pretty so by doing this step here, it just Creates a little bit more movement in the hair and a better flow, and this is a look that you get when you get your hair cut at a salon and again the trick is to leave off enough hair. If your fingers come down really low, you don't have a lot of room to come in and point cut and then what you're doing there is just making the hair shorter. This step is not meant to make your hair appear shorter and once you're done. This is once again just to give it some movement and just make it fall a lot more naturally, so, the more vertical you keep the scissors in with the hair, the less hair you're going to remove. If I start to angle the scissors just imagine if I went in and chopped that that would take that whole triangle off it's not what we're looking to do, we're just going in and as vertically as possible and snippy. You can see, probably removed one to two hairs in that little snip, all right so grabbing those ends that already feels so much better and we are all done, as you can see, looks a little cleaner than when we started and I'm already to style all right. So I've gone ahead and curled my hair. I always like to do that after a haircut, because I like to see how I typically wear my hair and how the curls are falling with this new haircut. So I feel like styling your hair, in the way you normally do is how you really see how much you like the haircut all right so we're gon na finish, with the last step, the old flex bonding oil, the number seven I'm just gon na put some On the tips of my fingers and run it through, and I feel like, the hair just instantly falls better, but without making the hair ever feel heavy. I also have a recent video where I walk you through all of the steps from when I shampoo my hair. So my full haircare routine, I will go ahead and link that in the description box, I've also recently done a how to fix quarantine bangs. So if you've been chopping, your hair, if you've made some mistakes, definitely check out that video and the whole point of that. Video is that it's not too late, even if you feel that you've cut too short of bangs or they look too blood, and you feel like your only option is to just let them grow. That is not the case. There'S definitely some tricks there. That can help. You just soften what you already have alright guys there you have it super easy, foolproof, hair trim at home I'll also leave the links to the awesome old, let's products that I've used today's video to make this hair a little bit more manageable, alright guys! Thank you! So much for watching. I hope this is helped. I hope you're all doing well and staying healthy and safe, and I will see you in the next one. Bye

Emma Dawe: It worked! OMG I never thought I could cut my own hair like that! I’ve managed a trim and on the layers. It all looks smart and healthy again! Thank you so much for doing this tutorial!

Mia's stuff: Thank you soooo much for your videos! I can’t tell you enough how much you have made me feel better and empowered to be able to do something about my hair during our Covid quarantine lock-down here in Melbourne Australia. I’m now 6 months out from my last hair appointment and feeling really down about how I looked. I am so excited to be able to do some temporary fixes till I get back there. Thanks again!! Take care and be safe from your new fan in Australia! :D

Remnant Awake: Found your channel during quarantine. Did my re-growth - success! Did my highlights - success! Last step - Haircut - will work up the courage. Thanks for your awesome videos. You are gorgeous, love your work :)

Chantal Séguin: Thank you SO much for making this video!! I just trimmed my hair and it looks great, i'm so happy with it. This was so well explained and simple, unlike a lot of videos that have so many steps it made me nervous. This was actually the perfect tutorial. Also i've loved your channel for years, you have the best hair content <3

Sarah Penney: I cut my hair tonight with this video, tired eyes and a belly full of pasta. I followed everything, even had some Olaplex and it turned out amazing! I cut my front layers a little too short and they don't look as feathered as they would in a salon, but I point cut into them and they've blended really well. Thank you so much! A little rub of hair oil and my hair feels SO much better. Can't wait to get to my hairdresser, but this has helped me so much in the mean time!

Kim C: Thanks for sharing and blessings from sunny and hot FL! You have been an amazing help to me in quarantine, and I’ve referred to your videos time and again while attempting to color and highlight and even cut my hair. So, thank you for your “work at home” which I’m sure helps so many more people than me! Please don’t stop!! Must be so hard to make a decision like this, and I’m sure your clients will be supportive. I wish you continued success in whatever you do going forward.

Jeanette Lee: This video has been a godsend throughout the pandemic. I’ve come back to it regularly (have only been able to get a proper haircut twice this year due to lockdowns!). We have the same cut which helps. Thank you so much and keep well & safe

Laura C: You’re the only person I trust to teach me how to trim my own hair

YasmínFabricio: I love your hair cutting videos! I’ve learned so much and it has had my hair looking great! Thank you I’ve been following for years

C Mac: Love your zen energy. I did a home self trim! Before the point cutting it was choppy. Would you point cut fine ends too(my college age daughter's is super fine, blonde hair), or leave the perimeter? Her face framing areas of long layers are looking thin. Trying to convince her a trim will make things look healthier.

Chrystal Bess Redding: Thank you! I've been wanting to go get a hair cut for months, tomorrow I will try out your advice. Keep on being awesome and keeping yourself safe ‍♀️ ‍♀️

JJ B: Thank you so much for the help...With this pandemic there are lots of people like me who have never trimmed their own hair finding ourselves with no other choice. You are a Great teacher, this is very easy to understand, and greatly appreciated. One request would be for there to be a darker background in your future videos to make it easier to see your gorgeous blonde hair as you are trimming the ends. Thanks

Veronica Kerr: Thank you Sylvia for 5 years I have enjoyed cutting my own hair thanks to your sharing, I wish I knew this when I was younger, love not going to appointments now

Fawn Markowitz: I just wanted to thank you. I am using your hair care routine for about 6 weeks now since I watched the video and my hair instantly looked and felt great.

Lucy S: Newbie here at cutting my own hair. Watched your video a few times and followed along the final time, wasn’t even that precise and it still looks pretty good! Thank you!

MagTag Makeup: Your hair looks so good and you make it look so easy!

Kirsty Macfarlane: Thanks Silviya, my hair is very similar to yours except my back isn't shorter than the front and my fringe is shorter so I'll probably just stick to either point cut or a bit of dusting, yes I remember that video! Nice to see you so looking well, really appreciate your help xx

browneyedgirl1100: Thank you so much for this awesome and informative video. When you hold your hair straight up and cut it (away from your head) does it come out shorter or longer than if you cut it when it’s laying straight down? Thank you so much, looking forward to hearing from you.

Diane Bays: You make it look so easy, and effortless!

Janet Schwartz: I love your videos! They’re so helpful! I have a couple of questions. When mixing lighteners, I have 2 questions. When it says 1:1.5 which part is the lighter and which part is the developer? Also I read where I can combine Wella Blondor Extra Cool Blonde w/Wella Multiblonde. How much of the Cool Blonde can you add? Thank you!

Tiffany L: Wow!! I've wondered why my hair on the right side of my head seems longer sometimes..it's the side I sleep on! I've never heard any other stylist mention that before. It totally makes sense now.

Natalie Malka: I just love your style and suggestions! Glad I discovered you during this quarantine :)

Emma Dawe: I’m glad I found this, I need a trim and didn’t feel confident enough to cut it, I have to say I was tempted by the unicorn ponytail and snip job but I am glad I found this one before trying it!

Ana Prodanovic: Hello Sylvia, since you are hair expert,I think that it would be good to do some video about trihotilomania and how to recover from it Great videos, always pleasure to watch

Classify Media: This is really what we need! Thanks for the advice!

Christina Thomas: THANK GOD FOR YOU! I am 35 weeks pregnant with twins and I am so tired I just want to cut my hair OFF. All I have energy to do is wash it and put it in a bun, it is thick and wavy and almost touching my butt and I am OVER IT. Will be doing my best to follow this and trim it after I buy some good ✂️

Rebecca Jaycox: Ok something like this I feel confident to try. My split ends are so bad. I don’t wanna be disloyal to my stylist but I’ve not gotten a trim since the fall& I’m concerned how much length I’ll lose just due to breakage. I’m also pretty cautious-I’ve watched this 3x just to make sure& I’ll probs watch it at least 2x more

Michelle P: Hi Sylvia I'm late watching this video, what kind of scissors do you recommend please just for point cutting/softening?

la fan de nuel: I've been doing bob on myself last 5 years. 4 sections, 2 mirrors, good scissors and all the time I need before showering. I do it twice or 3 times a year. I don't dye my hair and I use a hairdrier hardly once or twice a year, so I have no problems further than breakage due to hair combs.

Melinda Birgean: Your hair looks so good even in the beginning of the video:))

Katie kate: I ask my stylist to give me curtain bangs, and she did exactly what u said, straight across but did not give the other layer of curtain bangs. Good video, thanks for the info.

Chloe Robinson: Please do a make up tutorial of this look! x

Frankie White: I completely agree that people are taking their hair in to their own hands. Great that this content is available for people that need it x

Amy Gibson: Do you recommend a particular comb for trimming your own hair like the one you used in the video? Thanks!!!

NikOG: soooo jelly of your natural hair, it’s literally what i’ve tried for liiiiike, my whole life. lol

pyrrhichos: Made the mistake of cutting my hair in pigtails and it left the v shape at the back hahaha, it's not too atrocious and it'll grow back but I'll definitely try a different method next time

FannyGo: What scissors do you recommend for this? I need to get a dry hair pair. I have a wet hair pair but is very choppy when the hair is dry.

Migna Cruz: Great video, Thank you so much! What brand/ type scissors do you recommend? Thanks again!!!

Shaely Mae: I love your videos, could you do a trim/cut with a side part??

Randi Ann: I've been a cosmetologist for over 25 years.. due to life.. marriage.. 4 kid's. Thank you for keeping me informed.

Chelsea Pearl: Silvia, you are saving my hair right now!! Do you have a good pair of shears you recommend? I have been avoiding my regular scissors and using my eyebrow scissors since they’re super sharp. I should buy a real pair of shears if lockdown is planned to go on any longer.

Jessica Smith: Your hair is exceptionally gorgeous!

Aria Membreno: hi! i knew you had a hair cut video you made years ago and i searched for you hoping you had a new one yay!!!! i trimmed my hair.. or at least tried... and i have like 2 longer parts in my hair the hair at the back of the neck is longer than the front but it doesn't look good at all because i cut my layers too short.. I'm hoping watching this video ill be able to fix my botched haircut lol

Lynn Rose: You explain things very well.

Sare Bear: I have hair down to my hips. I literally trimmed an inch off last night by bring it to the front. Super easy and still a neat line :)

Jen the bubble: Tips to growing out a fringe (bangs) would be appreciated xx

Jennifer Grove: If your trimming your own hair that already has a V shape in the back, do you *want* to cut on a slant?

Brigi T: Hi! Can you suggest some scissors to use to trim your hair yourself at home? Thanks for this video! Super helpful!

Peg B: You're a really good teacher. Ok, I bought the scizzors on your Amazon store, going to try cutting my hair (first time ever).

Sabine Kreuz: I love it, when you are laughing into the camera...

susan conroy: Hello! You and I have the same hair type and color. Do you think there is a way of coloring my hair at home or should I wait until I can go back to my hair colorist? I have about 3 inches of dark roots now..

Abigail Monroy: Saw this too late I messed it up so had to keep cutting it to fix it now I have a bob cut which I actually like, I would e never gone that short if it wasn’t for my mistake lol

Rae Franco: Oh my god! My messed my hair up so bad that I've been working out so everyone looks at my body and not my hair. This video came too late. Hahaha!

Lydia Glassman: How do you curl your hair? I would've liked to see that. Have a link? Thank you! ♡♡♡ Lydia (-:

laura sanderson: Hi ! Your a great teacher thanks

Cristina Platz: Thanks for your tips! I'll try today! I live in Buenos Aires and wanted to buy the Monat products. Can I do it from the link bellow?

Ruby Rayne: I have super think hair, so I don’t want to try and cut the length. But I did cut curtain bangs, u even bought pro scissors and I think I did a great job! I think I’m going to go in and create more. Maybe if I can get desperate I’ll try cutting the length w help. And good tip with the point cutting and leaving 3 inches from finger to end.

Carie Patterson: Hey beauty!! What are your favorite scissors??!!

Leona C: You're so gorgeous, thank you for this tutorial as my paranoia is in overdrive and I can't go to the hairdressers, I wish you were my friend!

Jade: top is everything, hair is goals

T M H: I would like to see her style her naturally wavy hair. Because it's there.

C V: You make it look so easy! Ahh, I'm nervous.
