Hi everyone and welcome to Discovering Natural. Today I am getting braids in my hair from my mom and we're using these type of extensions for it. [ Mom ], We've already washed her hair shampooed, her hair and I blow dried her hair.. If you wan na see how I blow dried and trimmed her hair, please go to our Facebook page Discovering Natural.. I did a tutorial there. We're going to start off by section her hair and if you are sensitive to extensions and the materials in it, always prewash. Your extensions and before you start using it., So I'm taking a small section of the hair, we're gon na show you the beginning and the end, because everything is pretty much the same thing over and over again.. All we're just doing is her. Hair is moisturized. So don't think it's dry.. It'S really not dry, it's moisturized., But what I'm gon na do is I'm gon na get some of the root oil from Reagan Sanai, and this is for her scalp.. I'M just gon na put a little bit to her scalp to moisturize. It keep her scalp, moisturized and stuff.. Then I'm going to take some of this smoothie. This is their mango butter souffle., It's actually a souffle. It has no water in it. So her hair will not revert again.. I'M gon na use that on the length of the hair just to seal in whatever moisture we want to., I'm not doing very tiny braids in her hair, I'm doing medium-sized braids.. The hair extensions we are using are already pre-stretched they're pre-layered, and that is why I kind of straighten her hair also to trim it, but it's a really light very, very light., I'm just gon na take a little bit of it. So I'm just taking about this much., I will be splitting this hair into two sections like this and then I'm gon na cross it over like that.. You want to start off by splitting this here into three parts and I'm joining the furthest. One on this side and then this other side and then pick it up from there.. There you go and then you just start braiding it., Try not to make it too tight.. I braid it about three or four times this way.. Some people do underhand braiding and underhand braiding is when they just take it like this, and they cross it over like that.. This is like an underhand braid make look like this.. For me, it's a bit harder for me to do it that way, but doing it. This way I find that for some people it works better. You can see, but for me it's much more slower when I do it. This way. ( fast, elegant, music ). When you get to the very end of it, I'm just gon na pretty much taper it down. Until I don't see her hair., Her hair is pretty long. So this is where I know more. Hair ends., I'm just gon na, take a little bit of the hair from the extension, and I usually just put a knot right there.. I just put a knot right here.. That is how I secure it so that it won't keep on running.. I guess this is pretty good tapered off.. You can keep on braiding it if you want, but I'm not going to I'm just gon na keep it loose because we could curl the ends if we want to., Sometimes some people that, like the base to be very smooth, and if you like that you can Use this product.: This is the Shine and Jam and what you can do is, after moisturizing, the hair always moisturize the hair first.. You can take some of this Shine and Jam and you're just gon na put it to the very base of the hair like this and can use your fingers to smoothen it down.. Then you can start braiding the hair. ( techno, upbeat music, ). So far, we've nearly finished and you can see we just did all back and kind of the ends of it. We left it out, as I showed you earlier on.. This is the front area and the front area I just brought it slanted so that she can wait in different styles all the time and we just have this front area to do.. I'M really careful about her edges, because I don't want her edges to break. So what I'm gon na do, of course, is also some of the souffle take some of that. Put that along her edges right here and gently detangle it.. Next, I'm going to take the comb and we're pretty much gon na be braiding.. Now, when I braid this edge area, I'm being as gentle as I am when I braid other sections of her hair., What you wan na do is you just want to take the hair and just section it., I'm trying not to make the hair too tight., As You can see it's not tight at all. It'S moving., You just take it and just braid.. I first braid as if I'm doing a cog roll. After I'm done. I borrow two or three stitches and I convert it into an inverted braid. On the end. Braid it - and I take that and then I go underhand.. This might not be the technique that you use, but it's the technique that I use, because it's so much more gentle on the edges.. If you see her edges, you can see that the hair is moving. You can see it's not tight at all and there's give. I'm going to get some mousse, and why am I doing this? This is what will tame any fly. Aways, anything like that.. What I'm gon na do is I'm just gon na get the mousse, and this is Lottabody Wrap Me forming mousse., I'm just gon na take the mousse and just put it all over her hair., Just put it all over the hair like that., When this is done. I'M gon na tie down her hair with a do-rag just for a few minutes until the mousse is dried up a little bit.. This is the style. For the ends of the hair, because I got one that has already been pre-stretched. If you need to, you can trim the ends., I'm just gon na trim just a little bit of it off so just to give it a little bit of a tapered look. Stand up.. So this is the length you can see the length of it. ( techno music ). Thank you guys so much for watching. Make sure to like subscribe comment and share to the world.. Thanks again so much for watching - and I love this hair. Bye. ( blowing kisses )

MyNaturalMyChoice: Her braids are soon cute! and Mom, you did an amazing job!

Zebra Tribe Hair: I use this method most often on my kids hair. You did a great job. ❤

LB: Hello, beautiful You know I'm long winded, so here goes Okay, I do already know how to install my own box braids, but learned some good tips from this video. I think the size of the braids does matter. Those are a good size and came out very pretty. And not using much of the braiding hair per braid? Good idea! I haven't tried that, yet, but I can see where it wouldn't put as much weight/stress on the roots of the hair. I don't know how to French braid and it is probably because I underbraid. However, at the back of the head, when I am braiding my hair, it isn't possible for me to underbraid, to attach the braiding hair. So, I have to overbraid just a little like you did, at my back sections. My issue is that when I switch from over to underbraiding, the braid becomes inconsistent, at that point. It leaves a lump in the braid at the point where I switch braiding methods. That didn't look to be the case, in this video. How can I prevent that from happening? Also, I cannot figure out this method of starting with 3 strands from the beginning. My hair is the third strand and then I take an equal amount from either side, once my own hair runs out. I was definitely wondering what you were going to do with her hair, after you finished braiding, because it is so long that you can't dip it. I can dip mine. So the mousse would be applied, after dipping, in my case? And a tip for those who do dip their braids/twists, after the style is complete, I wouldn't stretch/blow dry. I have medium sized kinky twist right now and I started on super stretched hair. When I dipped the hair, the steam and moisture from dipping shrunk my hair and caused a lot of frizzing. Either stretch/straighten and don't dip, or just start with detangled, moisturized hair and then dip. Because of how tightly stitched box braiding is, it may not be as noticeable as it is with chunkier twists, but it is something to consider, for sure.. I hope it helps save someone the disappointment of working at a style and messing up how neat it could have looked.

Chris tina: it looks AWESOME!!! great job! how long to put them in after washing and drying? how long do you think you'll keep them in? will you wash at all while they're in? my daughter's in her second week of mini twists (no extension). i feel like i should wash her hair, but last time i did, the frizz became unruly and i had to retwist all the twists (4.5 hours).

The Lyon And the Ox: Beautiful baby girl!! Thank you for taking good care of her hair. The lighting made it a little hard to see, but I think I got the gist! Blessings

bdm72257: Hello, I am a new viewer and I must say I love your videos. They are so informative. You have such a beautiful personality and so pleasant to watch and listen to. You and your daughters hair are so healthy and beautiful! Your hair also is like mine with so much shrinkage! Its too funny!! When you stretch it out your hair is so long! I'm sorry but I have a question but it's not about braids and I hope you can help me. I watched the video on the aloe Vera plant. I saw another YouTube's who used the aloe Vera as a pre poo. My question is, if it closes your cuticle should it be used as a pre poo? I noticed in one of your videos you said let it be the last thing you use. I am confused, so is it okay to use as a pre poo? I hear it's great to use as a pre poo, or should it only be used as the last thing in your hair regimen.? Please help because I plan to wash my hair tomorrow. You have a new viewer so Please keep up the good work.
