A Tall Cool Glass of Lemonade Braids!

Braids named after a summer drink? What’s that all about? We think we know! Just like their “bigger than life” spokes-icon, Beyonce, lemonade braids are refreshing and tasty, tart and sweet, and quenching the thirst of thousands of women who are “putting a ring” on the look.

What Are Lemonade Braids?

Lemonade braids are named after Beyonce’s “Lemonade album” in which she frequently rocked a side cornrow style. They are a sort of a braid “combo-deal”. You got a little bit of cornrow, mixed in with some Fulani style, a dash of Goddess braids, and a whole lot of laid edges and feed-ins. Almost anything goes for lemonade braids, but there is one sacred Lemonade Law that probably shouldn’t be broken: tresses must be braided towards the side. Check the best ideas below!

#1: Lemon Tinted Lemonade Braids

Lemon-yellow blonde braids rock this classic style. Parted on the side and sporting tiny gold-toned hair cuffs, the sun-kissed hair color works nicely to bring out the gold hues in your skin tone. A single teeny-weeny braid with shells and beads is a stylish touch.

#2: Cherry-Lemonade Braids

Lemonade braids hairstyles that use bold and vibrant colors are the favorites of women who are ready to take the trend to the next level. We like the name “Lemonade with a Cherry Twist” because the deep red color makes the braids look sweet and candylike — yummy enough to gobble up!

If you’re on a mission to find some stunning lemonade braids with color, look no further! Thick and curvy metallic purple goddess-style braids wrap around the scalp, taking on the form of a regal crown before cascading down to one side like a veil.

#4: Classic Style Lemonade Braids

These cornrow style braids are what we imagine “Bey” had in mind when she asked her faithful hairstylist to create a new look for her Lemonade visual album. Simple and straightforward, they’ve been an example of classic lemonade braids ever since!

#5: Thick Wheel-Pattern Braids

Round and round she goes, where she’ll stop, nobody knows! These big lemonade braids are shaped in an intricate wheel-pattern, extending outward from a center hub and framing the scalp in a cyclical crown. Laid edges and two peek-a-boo braids frame the face.

#6: Blue Sunset Skinny Braids

Tiny cobalt braids grow slightly thicker as they extend outward and create an eye-catching effect that reminds us of an evening sunset. The splash of bright blue extensions and the flat, curled laid edges provide a great contrast to the jet-black braids.

#7: Full Scalp Patterned Side Braids

It seems like no part of the scalp has been left behind by the multitude of braids twisting and turning in every direction. Pewter-tone metal hair clips adorn just a few of the many braids, and two surprise over-the-ear tresses balance out the hairstyle on both sides.

#8: Topknot Ponytail Braids

An interesting twist on the standard form side-swept style is a lemonade braids ponytail, done here in a deep metallic purple. Tiny, thin braids are interspersed between thick, curvy braids that feed into a whimsical topknot with long shiny braids sprouting from the center of the bun.

#9: Braids with Beads and Wraps

The super-long extensions on these wine-colored Beyonce lemonade braids are enhanced by white hair string on just several of the braids. All except for two of the skinny braids are swept to one side, leaving two plaited braids that have been adorned with wooden beads and a single shell to cascade forward over the other ear.

#10: Forward Braids with Hair Wrap

Everything about this goddess-braid inspired lemonade style is THICK, including the individual braid width and the curly laid edges. It’s a look we think works best on younger girls or teenagers because it’s easy to maintain and quick to put in and take out.

#11: Wrap-Around Triangular Braids

Four jumbo lemonade braids snake around the head on one side, and four additional jumbo braids drop straight down on the other side, after being neatly divided into symmetrical triangular sections. It’s an extraordinary hairstyle that is sporty and trim.

#12: Thick and Thin Braids

Can’t decide if you want to go thick or thin on your lemonade braids? No need to, if you choose a hairstyle that has it all. One medium size braid acts as a part line and divides the scalp sections into two. A chunky braid is followed by a skinny braid; and they all look fabulous with shocking electric-pink extensions!

#13: Golden Swirl Lemonade Braids

Sleek and simple lemonade braids are beautifully enhanced when they are woven into golden extensions. Curving gently around the crown of the head, the braid pattern is elegant and sophisticated (and relatively easy to put in!) Braid cuffs and laid edges provide the final touches.

#14: Skinny Curvy Cornrow Braids

If you’re in the market for an alternative to those popular big lemonade braids to the side, try out one of these menageries of mini-braids. Intricate and uber-skinny, it’s a style that works very well for women who have extremely thin and fine hair. Rose-gold extensions add a special “something.”

#15: Thin Lemonade Braids in an Updo

High ponytails are a sizzling option if you are living or working in hot climates or hectic environments; having the hair in an updo always keeps you cooled down. Add some wooden or ivory beads to the ends and you’ll really be able to dress up the ebony braid color.

#16: Geometric Blonde Cornrows

Whoever said that cornrows always have to go from front to back has obviously never seen this creative pattern. Small metallic blonde braids are strategically laid out to wind around the scalp in a geometric spiral. You don’t really need anything else in terms of jewelry or hair accessories because the hair color has got it all!

#17: Side-Parted Loose Cornrows

If you are bored by all the lemonade braids styles that end by sweeping towards one side of the head, then maybe you’d prefer a hairstyle where the braids cascade down on both sides. Sporting a well-defined side part, and plentiful, thin, cornrow braids, it’s a traditional twist on a new trendy favorite.

#18: Gold-toned Skull Cap Braids

“Yonce” (as she is known in her inner circle) would just love the circular braid patterns of these classic lemonade braids. Rounding out at the crown of the head, the super-long braids are fashioned into a replicating look that is quite reminiscent of the original Lemonade style.

#19: Diamond Goddess-Lemonade Braids

Take the thickness of a goddess braid, divide the scalp into a diamond pattern, add some mini-cornrow accent braids, and you’ve got yourself an Aztec-inspired lemonade side braids style. It’s flashy, fashion-forward and the best way to make geometric designs using nothing more than creatively braided hair.
