This is what we're going to do. Is we're going to zone in on this, because your hair really grows so the it really grows kind of backwards. You know what we're going to do guys we're going to focus on this. We'Re going to forget that and we're going to focus on this, it's what we need to do, because we're live now yeah. This is brooklyn, live, doesn't feel like it, but it is. I can't get a close-up on this hairline. Okay, i'm just gon na cut guys. I'M just gon na cut. You just do what you want, i'm just gon na cut and do what you want. Okay, just got to look at this. The way this hair grows. It'S uh interesting. Now, let's go right in with the razor. Let me keep these bangs a little bit longer shape those bangs right in hey brian. How are you you want to show everybody what we're doing? I don't know if cal can get it, who knows hold it some way. I can't all right, let's restart this. Let'S turn this music down, let's re-begin, so i can get focused. Thank you. So we're going to be doing this haircut right here, spinner around! Oh, it's at the back. I like it. So we're going to be doing this cut so layers loose. We'Re going to keep, are you going to grow your hair? Are you yes? Well? How long you had this idea for long hair? Since i had a pixie cut, it was cut short. Was it it was yeah a few years ago, all right, gotcha, i'm sure. So now we're gon na keep it long. How'D you usually blow dry your hair um. I normally either air dry or i'll diffuse right gotcha. You live in new york. I do nice been here for five years, five years from where what happened interesting today, um our next model. We actually grew up together in maine when we were kids. We used to play together all the time that is. Oh, that's so cool and you've not seen it since, when oh my gosh, we were like 10, i think yeah. 10.. It'S been a long time wow. So we're just going to kind of piece this out, so we've got two models today and uh. This is megan and i'm just gon na channel out the hair. Keep it quite loose. She'S got like interestingly unique hair. It'S got like a little curl to it. A little movement to it, i don't want to do it so conformed. That'S really not what i want to do. I want to make it to like conformed she's, going to let her hair grow long. So it's really what we do around the face, which is the most important piece there. You go just working with my razor just working to piece it out, channeling some sections throughout. When did you when you saw your friend that you'd not seen for how long? What did you think i feel like at first? I didn't really recognize her like. I knew there was someone familiar and then my mom actually texted me because she saw the photo that you had so your mom saw it yeah same mums. They know don't they they do, they know they sure do know so. You'Ll see as i come through these sides conceptually. It'S really just piecing the hair out. I'M going to use my scissor too just to kind of create uh this looseness in the texture. It'S thursday morning, it's a rainy thursday morning here in new york city, obviously keeping an eye on the news. The mayor says his last chance to save new york, so they're kind of threatening us with shutdowns again, which is uh, something that you know. We don't want to hear, but, as you can see, the country is definitely going through uh going through a lot now. I'Ve been doing classes all week here in our studio. We'Re teaching a lot on mannequins, which has been great for education, the great lessons and then right here we have a couple of our live models for our for our brooklyn live today. Sections of diagonal back, i don't want to overlay the hair, and i don't want to make it too conformed. So i just put in some channels throughout the hair, so as i channel in see that just piecing through just keep it nice and loose because uh it's better that way, especially because megan wants to grow her hair. Long and she's got this texture. So it's going to be great for product, it's going to be very much wash and wear just channeling all the way, through i kind of want to keep that looseness. Now people are asking about these masks. These masks are great for us to do when it's just me on the platform with my client, so i'm obviously messed up and my eyes are all wrapped just working through with some channels just working through with some channels right. The way through we've got all kinds of technical stuff happening today. We'Ve got minnie mouse here wow, so the key thing really is around the bang area, so you got to make it like heavy, but so that it can move because the hair grows back away from her face. Let me go into the scissors now pick up. My small scissor and uh i've got my product too wave mist right the way through and that's going to help dial up that beachy texture, which is exciting. That'S the erosio wave mist. This is going to help to to build it. Okay. So now i'm going to come from behind i'm going to elevate the hair up. Let'S just have a look and see i'm going to work from the back and i'm going to work on just chopping into the hair, fine teeth of the comb comb, the hair right. The way up there you go working right, the way through it's important when you're working on this type of a shape, i did a loose shaping with the with the razor. It'S very much part of a feel, so the razor really helps that now the scissor i'm just going to refine it. I want to see how the texture expands that to me is the most important bit see how the texture expands. So when the hair is like drying, you'll start to see that and what i'm literally doing is just kind of rounding through the hair now working all the way from the back, you can see all the length that we have right here. You know it's a nice way to layer from behind it's a little harder yeah, it's a little harder because you're not combing everything in towards you. But you know it's a it's a nice way. You got to think about that expanded shape. So as we comb the hair up, think about that expanded shape, let's chop this in clean that up try your best to change your techniques as much as possible. Honestly, it's very important to change your technique as much as possible, because that keeps you inspired and it keeps you connected, so we're pushing this hair out and away elevating this hair up and away and then just chopping right. The way in working with my cone bank erosio comb just trying to lighten the top surface, making sure that we don't overly layer it because if we overly layer it it's going to get weak on the bottom and megan's growing her hair right now. So we're supposed to have a happy mondays on monday night we're going to be checking into that, because i i know that the news is uh, there's some new developments. I think they're closing some of the restaurants and some of the gymnasiums. So it looks like the the dream continues. Well, maybe it's a nightmare. It continues as we move forward now, your hair is this: your natural texture, uh yeah. It'S awesome great texture, we're going to set this hair with product, and then i've got a great super short haircut. So, stick around we've got like a little mia, faro pixie to cut so definitely stick around and we're going to peck megan's hair i've already packed it with uh with the wave mist. So that's going to dial up the beachy texture, but then we're going to set it with cream whip, which is one of my favorite products. It'S like a conditioning cream, it's a conditioning like whipped cream that comes out and it's one of my favorites in the salon. It doesn't really have hold, but it has moisture and softness, which is what i love and notice, i'm just letting this hair move around a little. So i can see what kind of the hair wants to say to me i'll spin around now and we'll just kind of clean up the back. She wants to keep the back long, so i'll. Take a nice deep section and you're going to take big sections right here: work cleanly because you can and uh use your clips. Looking at everything. Fine teeth of the comb gets nice. Even tension, see the last haircut. So i'm going to tighten that up just based off the last haircut, just chopping in alex, says, love the stage backdrop looks fab, awesome job guys, good, says good morning is that genie from um moses lake? You got it. Thank you, nice. It'S nice to see my friends. Thank you so much for tuning in thanks for your support. We appreciate it. We'Ve got me and kate and carl here really pulling together our ideas for our studio because i think it might they may they say it might be a long dark winter. But it's going to be a lot of fun for us and we're going to be here. Sharing digitally to keep everybody engaged what'd, you say: kate, um, we've got one. Two three we've got like 12 people. Awesome little textures were working through. Is that the audience the mannequins? It'S the mannequin audience that macy's ready for christmas how'd. You usually dry your hair, meg um i'll, just normally air dry it or if i'm wanting you'll diffuse, it you'll get more volume of diffusing it yeah upside down and all that fun stuff, all that fun stuff. Okay, so let's take the central section and uh: let's connect in a little bit, i'm just gon na move the scissors, as my fingers slide through the hair. So you can just see that working with my scissor, it's the erosio b-mac 5-inch. It'S like a great scissor for uh feed. The salon every day work. It'S small, precise, it's kind of a chunky scissor. Some of the scissors that we've had in the past are very fine and very delicate. This is quite a robust chunky. Sheer it's got rounded tips and it's got quite a nice weight to it available on the rojopro.com, as is all of our tools, and today i'm going to get back to the studio, my good friends, stephen and travis. They have a brand that they've created called steph and uh they're, making a new kit bag for us and a new tool roll, so hopefully they'll be coming in today. So i always like to see goodies. What'S this outfit you're wearing today, kate, is this your sporty spice? Is this your reigning in brooklyn outfit? Can we get a camera or why don't you stand on the stage, so everyone can see - and you can say hi to everybody. I said hi this morning to everyone. You did oh come on, it's your best. It looks great. Thank you. Let'S just have a look here, let's zone in since we're getting close. So what i'm going to do now, just to finish, i'm just going to take a deep zigzag and then i'm going to take a deep sleep zigzag on this side. So zigzag section push that forward, clip that out of the way - and i'm going to lift this. I'M going to twist the shape's in so now it's just a question of adding texture twist it when you twist the hair. What happens when you twist it? The length is in the center, so you can take kind of a big chunk twist it and then literally work through it. I'M not scraping i'm actually cutting we'll do the same on this side spin around a little bit. This just gives us more freedom. So one of the things that we're going to do for the next in the next week or two is we're going to get another camera we're going to have it on my friend cal we're going gon na. Have one speak, one camera. I thought we could get one camera on you cal and you should get mic'd up too. Don'T you think i think so? Oh yeah, it's the secret. So one of the best things that happened through the pandemic was me and cal got together and now we started uh being creative together, which is a lot of fun. That'S okay! So just taking these pieces and just working through, i want to make sure i've got enough action around the uh around the crown area. So a little free form i'm working right. The way through so right here we're right on the on the crown. Now, let's lift this up twist and bang same thing here you want to make it too stringy. You want to kind of make it chunky. It'S a good word chunky, chunky your little chunky. I got extra chunky bits from the coronavirus i think from the pandemic. You know it's called uh: it's called uh red wine, so remember i prepped megan's hair with some wave mist and i'm working now with my scissors. So i don't have to dry the hair. I don't have to wet the hair. I'M allowed it's still damp, but you know you kind of got to keep it loose and free just try and use that judgment and, as you shake the hair out, you can see how loose it gets now, i think she's. Obviously you do modeling and dance india. You dancer or a ballerina or something and do you do modeling too you're in there yeah well here and there. So you see what she's you know. We'Re gon na she's got great bone structure, so we've got to show it off, and you know it's really nice to change your approach so just working a little bit more on that free-form style and just allowing that head to dry through just gets me to see Whether i get what we need, i feel like it's still a little too long in here so and she's got curl to her hair. So what i'm going to do is i'm just taking this center channel, i'm just going to piece in some more pieces center channel. Just peace in more pieces today is thursday. Is it the 10th of november on the 11th? Oh, it's the 12th. I just lost a few days. It'S painful! I just lost a few days. It'S been a busy legal crime, oh legal crime. I know what legal crime is. It'S a saying that i've got really yeah. It means that there are crimes that are legally acceptable, yeah yeah. What'S a legal crime, a legal crime is uh not being able to fly because your name's not right on the ticket. That'S a legal crime, yeah, there's lots of legal crime that happens, legal crime. You ready they'll change charge you for a hotel room. Even if you don't stay in it. It'S a legal crime. Yeah we'll see, there's a lot of legal crime out there. It'S gon na be my book when i retire. I sit there and think about all of the what's the legal crime in here, a legal crime. Is you can't charge somebody if they don't do to get their head on it's illegal to charge somebody? But people do it's illegal to charge you for a meal. If you don't turn up for your meal, so for the restaurant charge you for the meal, it's illegal, so there's lots of stuff out there in the rulebook. Yeah lots of stuff out there in the rulebook. Oh thanks, evan says nick your hair is super long. Changing your look! No, not really it's attached to the hat. This is attached to the hat, we're trying to reinvent you know, listen we're trying to succeed, we're trying to survive new york's gone through a lot. We uh, i think, the inner city all in the cities have struggled during corona, probably maybe more because you know the cities were a place that people would come to to cut to uh to the office. So that was you know and then your head and after have to work so now people are not coming to the office they're not getting their head enough to work. So we've really taken the brunt of this this pandemic in new york city. It'S really been difficult. You have statistical data like at less than 10 of the workforce is coming into work less than 10, so we live in a vertical city. So all these buildings are empty and now with the restaurants and broadway and entertainment kind of being cancelled for a while people are leaving the city. You can't go for dinner, especially as we start to head into the winter months, but i'm also watching. I think one of the things that's important as a stylist is to keep an eye on. What'S going on on the news in the world that doesn't mean just getting it from your social media feeds. It means having a look and seeing different channels. Try and do a little bit of research be aware of. What'S going on in the world yeah, you got to be able to talk to your clients about world affairs plus you know for me. I know that today, 140 000 new cases in america last week. It was eighty thousand eighty-three was the record so who knows what that means for us, but i've got ta, be aware of it because uh i have a business here in the city. Okay, so you can see the pictures coming out really the way i wanted it to the bangs are not short. The bangs are long. The reason why we kind of kept them long is so that they don't have to be so heavy. It can be loose. It grows very strongly. It jumps right over that way. There'S the jump. It goes right in here and then this grows back so that you're, not gon na change that so you're just gon na have to work with it and that's why i put a little bit more in now, it's time to prep. Now we started this week with product knowledge, so thanks everybody for those people that tuned in for product knowledge. Is it on youtube and we're going to be looking as well at what we're going to be doing in reference to where our digital assets are going to sit lots of changes, so i'm damping the hair down again. Can you get me the uh texture paste? Please kate, that's it just hold that for me, so i've dumped that down with uh. I have not done with the wave mist you coming in. Oh, look, look, look, look! Look! I can see the camera moving. What happened yesterday, when i saw the camera move, was that kate playing with the joystick is that what happened? Is that what happened? I'M just about to start filming, i'm looking up at the camera and the camera starts turning and i look across and then i've got you doing that nice cream whip. Oh it's kind of a very it's straight at the root and kind of like a loopy curl. At the end, so it's kind of unique, that's a big dollop of daisy yeah and i'm using this cream whip and i sprayed it with uh the um wave mist to begin with, and now i'm just gon na finger through this product. The final pieces i put in just work it in with my hands. So what's the wave miss gon na? Do it's gon na add beachy texture? What'S the cream whip going to do it's going to add a little bit of silk and softness, and then i'm going to go in with the texture paste because that's going to lock it together! So i'm going to take a big it's a big dollop of uh of texture paste. We typically use for our shorter heads, but i'm gon na go right in because we're gon na go into our next client and uh. That'S childhood friend! I love that we really! It'S called the reuniting show we're really united people here kevin. I put the let the remainder at the front. Now the texture paste is going to lock it together, so where she sits, i'm good i'm going to pass me for comb thanks. Let'S lock it in we're. In brooklyn today, the salons open, brooklyn live comb. It right the way through that texture paste has a thickening asset to it. So it kind of adds a little bit of thickness. Let'S work off the center and i'll show you we're just gon na set it and she's not allowed to touch it. We'Ve got the hair police we'll have to send the camera in. I don't want to put a clean parting in there. Just want to push it over to the side. Now i'm going to take these pieces and you've seen me. Do this a lot because it's kind of a it's kind of a great technique. I think just to establish the texture and i'm not. I don't want to overly twist it. I just want to encourage it. I want to lock it together when you do this kind of stuff. It locks the texture together and when it locks the texture together once it dries, then you can really shake it out and you'll still have that separation that you're looking for but you're, also gon na, have see. Look look at that nice separation that we just put in right here. The the roots are dry. You color your head here i did a little bit before halloween yeah before halloween. Was it for a costume, or are you just just for fun just for fun? Why not did you get dressed up for halloween? I did yeah. What did you go as he was a vampire yeah? I was a vampire too. Was your vampire any good? I think so. Do you have a picture of it yeah? Let'S have a look. We want to see the vampire you pull up my battle of the vampire kate, okay, we're gon na have dueling dueling vampires dueling teeth. Oh pretty good! Let'S have a look put it on the camera, not bad, very vampy we're going to get closer there. You go! That'S really cool. Oh! What do you do to me? Yeah? That'S a terrible picture! That'S a terrible picture! That'S a terrible picture! Thanks, kate, i'm gon na get i'm gon na get i'm gon na get a nice yeah like nice yeah. I know she doesn't show that she's just showing the ugly one. It'S okay, i'm gon na get you for this. Don'T worry, kate, i'm gon na get you for this, this one's my favorite yeah, it's okay, kate's over aha! That was me. It was me. Wasn'T it yeah? That was me, wasn't it don't worry? I got a great picture of kate and a pair of white underpants and i am going to use him yeah. I'M gon na use it i'm gon na have to edit it a little bit because she uses she uses some nasty words yeah. She uses some nasty words, but i'm definitely gon na get that picture. I'M gon na show it. I might even do it today. Now. I have to edit it first so next week tune in next week to see kate in in her white man's underpants about still be tuning in next week. Your last fruit, okay and now you're gon na get it that's it. The vampire looked pretty good. It'S pretty good way better than the one that kate's showing of the old guy dressed up as a vampire. So it's all over. So it's all over clyde carl, it's all over. It was a great picture. Wasn'T it yeah? She took that and she said i'm going to stick it to him. I'M going to stick it to him. So live is live. She did it. I'M definitely going to go back. There'S no, there's no way she's getting away without me. No way battle of the pictures. Don'T forget, i got some good ones because kate used to look after my children when they were young, so i've got all kinds of stuff. Oh she's, it's coming just you wait until you see her in a white underpants yeah in a white undies yeah. So just working right the way through and then we'll leave it to dry. Can you get me the refinish i'm going to put some refinish in there here, which is again it's our texture product and the refinish is going to bulk out the root it's going to help to to to put some texture into the root. So she's got this free, loose wild mane of texture, wild mane, my vampire girl, random sections, cow yeah, random sections, just working from the inside out. Now, let's just have a look at the bang bang to the boogie, i'm going to pull it together most important bit. Let'S just loop this together remember the texture. Paste is going to lock it lock it like it's heart and what happens is is then we're going to add more products to it later. But when you do lock the hair up like this, it gives the hair a little bit. You can play with it and free it out. So this is our refinish. It'S our dry, shampoo, just pulse it in shake it and spray shaken back and put the freshness back. Remember that cow yeah, i'm putting the freshness back all right! Why don't you go and switch seats with claudia and no touching and coming up claudia and let's get into our shortcut? Did you bring your inspiration great? Let'S have a look at claudia's inspiration, oh yeah, so that's what we're going to do? Was it you're going to when was your hair colored last month, yeah nice? One of the interesting things show me one more time, one of the interesting things oh cute, so you got to really make sure you don't you got to be aggressive here now. Let'S talk about the hair that claudia's got she's got a a lot yeah. This is like four heads of hair yeah. So do you push it more one way than the other? I do usually this way you push it. That way. Do you oh this way? Usually this way yeah, you can see how it grow it's hard when you're doing it on the uh. You don't in front of the mirror. Goes this way you can see the hair. So the first thing i do is i establish that so i'm going to start on this side. I always start on the side closest to where the hair, the parting goes. So if it goes that way, i start this side if it goes this way. I start this side i'll use. My hydro, mist and uh hold that for me. Thanks love and let's jump right in clean section right at the round of the head and uh section right at the apex of the width of the head. So right, at the top of the ear, we're going to start in here and we're going to work diagonal forward diagonal forward diagonal forward. These sections are all diagonal forward. Keep moisture in the hair. Hydro. Mist is a great product for that first section. Let'S see how much sharpness i've got on this blade, it feels good there you go right. The way in next section, i'm going to use clips, use the fine teeth of my comb just going to collapse that hair in flat plane of the blade when i use the flat plane of the blade it makes the hair softer. You start here, you get it a little sharper around the around the ear. We want it to be sharp, but we want it to be soft. We don't want to build up too much weight, it'll get too fat and round. We want to keep it lean. The razor really helps to lean out the shape. We call this an open stroke as i melt that hair away it's working close to the head, and then i comb with the white teeth of the comb come in with the white teeth of the comb enables me to see how that hair's, going to kind of Jump and move so look at how open the stroke is dragging the hair back, there's going to be some length at the front that i'm going to cut off in a second, so we're right here, calm that hair forward. So because you come to your back, she's got all that wispiness. Now i'm going to gently move her towards me. I'M going to lift her up a little because i'm going to be moving into the back, so i'll lift up the chair a little and then i'm going to take her up, maybe too high. So right now, what i'm gon na do is i'm gon na scoop that out right here, so we'll just take that away here we go tip of the blade scoop that out scoop it out great. Let'S move into the back hydra miss drives pretty quickly, especially we're under lights. Look at how much hair she's got here! I want to take any prisoners, i'm going to get rid of this hair right now, a lot of hair. Let'S keep her. Let'S just caper up. It'S very important that when you're doing your clients, you uh get the right cleanliness for your client. There you go create a little bit more space, i'm working with a straight edge blade, so got to be perfectly careful around the back of the air. Don'T want to cut the air off, it bleeds a lot. You'Ve been there so right in here, my fingers. Actually pressing. Can you see above you can see above and what happens is you'll see? My finger is pressing. The air forward pushing this ear right out of the way and then the blade's right behind and my fingers protecting the ear now be careful. It doesn't spring out because if it does we'll be springing out to the hospital so take it in nice and tight i'm going to go one section higher, not worried about this. Just yet lift the head up, get that blade open there you go. I always like to comb it after each cup, so yeah. We technically have a happy monday schedule for monday, we'll be looking into it and to make sure that we're covered compliant. Everything that we do is socially distanced, but that's something that we're obviously going through with everybody else we have. If we don't do a happy mondays live we'll, probably do it virtual. That'S what we'll do so we'll get. We'Ve got plenty of option opportunities. I do have some guests working with me. I have amy from salon pure and i have pat from edit salon in chicago. So if we don't date with an audience, we will be doing it with uh, we'll be doing it uh virtually. Are you free monday, carl? He'S here, i'm gon na get the camera on cal too, and that's gon na make him uh. He'S gon na, be the star of the year. Show here's cal so coming right. The way in into the nape keep that keep the the ear out of the way. A little bit of moisture right in here there you go moisture right in there all the way in take that down time check, please guys, okay! So, let's get this show on the road, in other words, i'm gon na start moving salon speed, take it nice in so it's nice and tight, but still soft. So when i talk about salon speed, it means you know, let's just really try to work through. You can't take too fat a section when you're working on this kind of thick, dense, hair and the lightening of it makes the hair feel even fatter and thicker. When you comb the hair down after each cut, what happens? Is you get to see how the hair sits when you're working with that blade just softly, just move that hair in nice and clean you can work cleanly with your hands when you're on shorter hair, not as much need for a clip i'm working efficiently, making sure That i don't build up too much hair to the back, so this is the open stroke. The open stroke really adds a lot of taper into the hair just melts that out and when i comb it, it talks to me so when i comb it, then it tells me what the hair is actually tells me what their hair is actually doing as i, As the hair's rounding away, moving away from me got to be careful not to over direct the hair too far forward. I don't want it to get bulky through. The back do not want bulk bulky hair in the back at all. Let'S move the chair. A little are you're a model. Are you yeah how's that going okay, yeah you're, the short hair model, yeah yeah, they're really good. So, if they're looking for short hair they're looking for you today, they do they're very exciting. Oh you got ta shoot today. So it'll be: what are you shooting for um, just like a portfolio update nice, so you got a new look. I do. I think it's better me too. So does my agency so yuri thank you and how long you've been with your agency two years in new york two years. I know a model, i know a model yeah and who is that model kate um, i know a model kate is it me? Is it me yeah, is it me, you got a picture. Okay you'll see kate's pictures in the windows we used to take pictures of kate, hey isabel. We used to take pictures of kate when she was young. Oh my god, oh there you go that there. She is yeah that was when she was in her 30s now she's uh she's passed over yeah nice good move. We are literally a third of the way in let's try and get a better angle flat plane of the blade look at what you've left in there. In your fingers, that'll help you flat plane of the blade just melt that hair all the way out. You'Ll notice, i do comb it after each cut to see how the hair is actually sitting. You know one of the things that i love about the razor is it is such a uh. It'S it's it's good for creating, feel and flow and softness. If i cut this hair with a scissor, i'd probably have to cut it shorter because uh i won't be able to get as much texture as i'm getting into it and if i cut it with a scissor believe it or not, the hair wouldn't move as much. My sections are about a quarter to a half an inch work. It all the way through bring it into the nape smooth thanks melody. So now we can see what we've got and now what we're going to do is we're going to start to work up and over the top. So now we'll start to work up and over the top, so drop the chair down and now we're going to comb. This hair over to me and we're going to get a little longer, but we're also going to get a lot softer. So when i say a lot softer, i mean i really want to soften the hair out and i'm again just trying my very best to work through the process quicker rather than slower because um it's like i'm chasing to the end. I want to get to the end as soon as i possibly can, so i can refine it whenever you're cutting hair in the salon. You know the whole concept should be get to the end with some time to refine, especially when you i mean this is a big change again. Part of it is just the confidence to to go for it. I can, i can't tell you how many times i've not cut it short enough in the past, not claudia's hair, but when i was doing shorter hair, you don't cut it so short. What happens? Is it expands and doesn't look modern? You also don't want to get too much length on the top. You want to make it softer and looser. So if you are getting length, look how open that blade is and her hair grows away too uh to her right. So when i comb it i'll see that happen, it goes away to a right working from the back to the front, i'm starting to move over the top of the head. So i got ta, probably start the other side. Soon, you see i'm using a little over direction here, pulling this hair over it's gon na keep some length, but because i'm really pushing the blade through the hair. It makes it uh better for me because i've got a lot of sharpness within the lens, so the length is actually gon na the length is actually going to move better there. You go and follow that on into the back, i'm going to keep moving that down there, you go just keep moving that down start to see that shape short hair is good for hairdressing, because you know what the cut grows out. So it means you have to get your hair cut more often yep. So short haircuts are good. That'S why guys are great clients, you know, and especially seeing as we're living in a a gender-neutral world. Men'S haircut should be the same price as your women's haircuts. We shouldn't be like giving uh like you, know: uh legal crime. A blouse is more expensive than a shirt legal crime back uh. Well, if you leave them they'll grow yeah, i mean listen. When you cut your hair short, you want to get you're going to go through some pain. If you want to grow it, so that's! Well, that's the chance! If you cut your hair short like just like megan, you know she had a pixie now she's going the other way. Just like me, i can't grow my hair, so i just sewed some gray hair to the back of the hat. So it looks like i've got some here: cal wears the hat on the weekends and uh. Well, he did when there was pubs were open, but now the pubs are all closing nowhere to go just here. Cal, just here with the only place to go, is uh a rojo. It'S a place to go erosion, so you guys see that it's coming together that nice soft texture, all right, if you're just tuning in today, is our reunion show we reunite childhood friends together. Claudia turned up today not knowing that she would meet megan and you girls used to hang out when you was kids. You went to the same school. No, our dads were um. We got the same dad! No, oh, my god. What kind of a show is this? Yo ricky yo ricky yeah your dad what they worked together. Your dad worked, your dad's work together, good and uh. How did you live on the same street? We didn't we. They just had our goals. Our families had um children, the same age, so so they'd hang out yeah wow. So what kind of crazy secrets do you have for us? We'Re not saying we're not saying here and when was the last time you saw megan. Can you even remember i can't i have a really bad memory, probably like 15 years ago, wow. Okay, let's come through, do exactly the same on this side, sectioned it across sectioned it at the round, sectioned it over the top of the ear gon na, come right in here and pushing that air down with my finger and i'm just gon na a little bit More length towards the face section two: these are diagonal forward sections through open blade, the blade will dull. As you cut, i can feel a slight dulling, not a new blade. Today i was cutting some of these mannequins that you may have seen not a new blade today, but uh i was just a mannequin haircut yesterday feels pretty good still. If the blade does dull, don't change it, if the blade does. What you should do is take finer sections. Just come back, have a look on this side, make sure you're balanced combing that hair all the way back fine teeth of the comb there you go bring that hair all the way in slowly start to work. Now we did one side almost in its entirety, worked up and over to the middle of the head, just over the middle of the head, and now we do the same on this side. Now spin it to me and then what we're going to do right here is just with more the heel of the back of the blade just take that out. You can also just pick up the little pieces, make sure you're moving in the right direction. Again, we're going to lift up the chair for comfort body position is uh critical. When is your next advanced razor cutting glass? Oh well, we're starting to put some dates on the calendar for next year. Uh. Our first class next year is american wave certification. It'S on january, the 10th and then uh we'll have some dates, probably by the end of uh. By the end of day to day, i know, we've got a couple of dates booked, but i don't know them right now, because we just put them on the schedule. Literally on tuesday, so what that means is they may be on the schedule but they're not on the website. Just yet. I am going to be visiting california in january, i'm going to be teaching a class in san diego in january, and then i'm going to head up to la and i'm also might be heading up to sfo san francisco and i may end up in in portland. So i'm really planning on doing a little bit of an expedition, even though we're living in uh covered chaos, cosmos sent january 31st to february to february 1st. What class is that raise the fundamentals and do we have another class yeah? Classic cuts will be february 21st to 23rd nice and then we'll be putting an advanced razor class on uh, probably in march. That sounds like the plan for me: stan yeah and we're also going to be doing some razor fundamentals classes in our studio right here. We'Re going to limit the class to 15 attendees. That means you can get to speak to us. We can all hear when we do our american wave certifications. It'S a really fun uh experience. We can have interactivity. So, even though we're not all in the same room, we can talk to each other. We can see each other bless you. You got it. Oh good, my diaper! Yes, so if you want to learn razer in and you you know, you can't travel because of the virus. We'Re going to be here making stuff happen. We have two more cameras to add to the studio and we'll be doing that and then we have uh some new backdrop stuff. So we've got new stuff happening as we continue to push on what'd, you say: clive i mean cliff clive and carl. I changed his name all day. That'S the sign of dimension. How do you guys know each other yeah? How do we know each other through uh social media now through the hair show through the trade show circuit cal's been working in the hair industry since before you was a twinkle in your father's eye? That'S my favorite thing yeah! That'S it so he's been working. What year was your born 92, 1966, 1992. 1992.. Yes, well. Carl'S been doing that for a lot longer than that. Isn'T that right, cal, 86, that's his age! How long have you been in the industry? Did it fit it? So i'm working across the back with my open stroke, just pushing that hair together keep your sections consistent. If your sections are consistently thick, then what happens? Is everything can stay consistent? If your section changes, then the pressure changes so the blades holding up well right. Now, i'm going to just check it as i'm starting to hit what i've cut. So i'm going to check it you're going to check it with your fingers, feels a little longer on this side. So let's just go back and just add a little bit of texture. Sometimes adding texture takes uh makes it shorter. Just by adding texture could make it a little shorter flat plane of the blade right. The way in always come in with a wide teeth of the comb enables their hair to move a little bit better. So you can see what you got so kate. What'S your favorite question, my favorite question is: let's see if we can find somebody from dublin, let us know let's spin around and now we're going to work up and over the head. This way i'll drop the client down bloody down just a little and we'll come from the back to the front anywhere from dublin. Okay, not yet: okay, new jersey, boys, idaho boise, there you go yeah boys by his boys. Where are you from originally kate? Oh cleveland? I'Ve been to cleveland many times so notice over the years. Just really make sure you don't let it get too long on the top. Don'T let it get too long use the flat of the blade that'll collapse. It thin. It out create space. The hair moves better. This is tipping just putting that tipping feel in as i go. Let'S have a little feel. Okay, we're getting closer. I knew that the density of the hair was so so thick. I knew i'd have to really push through side of the blade comb it look at it push it around see what the hair says to you connecting him from the back now the nice thing with a razor too, you can work from the back to the front And from the front to the back now, i'm going in with the tip cleaned up some little pieces, keep it loosey-goosy. What do i mean by that? I mean keep it loose, let that feel come in. Let'S work across another way to cut you can lift the hair up this way. This is not so much using your uh, not so much using your fingers. This is like another way to layer across the top, lift the hair up and then just come from behind. Just take that away keep your sections clean, though lift it up. Take it all the way away. The salon here in williamsburg brooklyn is on broadway we're opening up for business today now, first department's 11, 30., so you're looking for a great haircut and you live in the neighborhood, it's a place to come to. Let'S push it this way. All of a sudden that looks good that way too, i'm gon na lift it working from the inside out i'll, be scissor cutting. Also i like to scissor cut isabelle. Can you come here for me? Do you mind just getting megan's hair and just diffusing it? Please. Just defuse it, i've producted it just get it dried that as it is thanks, so you can see she def. I left more length in the top right, but i've got it nice and tight, but with softness around the edges. So now it's time for me to start focusing in on a little detail and i'll be picking up my scissors in a second before i do that, just let me feel it through with my hands, so i'll add texture and then what i'll do is i'll. Take that texture out or i'll clean it with a scissor. I like this. Sometimes you can just pinch these pieces, just work them down. Do people tell you that you look like sarah yeah. You know that they do tell that a lot. Don'T let me if me and father mia farrow's a great granddad, so she's got a little little kick a little girl. Can you get me the um fiber and the shine looks oil all right so now, let's tighten it up a little bit with a scissor. Let'S do a little detail work right. You tend to find that the hair lines the hair gets a bit wet. It can be a bit weird, and i mean weird it just does things that you don't necessarily want it to do like right here. So sometimes it's nice to take it away. So you just take that away. So now it sits better a little inside texturing right. Let'S skim over everything with a scissor make sure i've got no super long bit pieces and then i'm going to zone my eye in and do some refining. So you get your shape in and then you can refine. It says it helps to just toughen up the uh just to kind of seal up the cuticle make sure that it's not too chewy on the ends. Also, because i'm now working with a scissor, i can allow the hair to dry out a little. It'S going to talk to me again suggest lifting up the white teeth of the comb just to go through the texture. The whole concept here is working over the head. You work over the head, i can see straight in and as the head starts to dry, it starts to get fatter. Puffier product-wise, i'm going to use fiber i'm going to make a little cocktail. Vodka and tonic i'll make the little cocktail i'll use my fiber and i'll use my uh, my shine looks oil to soften the fiber fiber's gon na give the hair a little hold. So right in here, it's gon na chop chop chop break in okay. Let'S look at some details so now we're going to comb this hair forward, let's clean up the just a few little edges right here, combing that hair forward on a on a density and a dampness side. She'S literally a you know: she's probably like uh with if 10 was dry she's about an eight. So i'm seeing what the hair wants to truly do and that's important for you to see what the hair wants to truly do. I can feel a little bit more thickness through here, so let's just chop in don't chase bits, it doesn't all have to be. You know perfect, perfect, that's not what we're going for we're going for feel so we're going to go for the feel. Now, let's comb it and have a closer look, just resting my finger keep some length there. She can still tuck it behind yeah, just chipping in right here. What else do we got going on kate? So we're going to be damping, your hair, a little to add the product, but right now you want to kind of i've used a little hydro mist which gives it a little slip and a little shine, but soon we'll be putting the product in and it's dry In certain places, and just a little just like a little damp here, it's pretty much virtually dry at the front. Let'S have a look at the uh, the hairy line, yeah, let's jump into the hairline. One of the things that i like to do on hair lines is have a look and do some texture and i'm going to get my texture shears to work on the hairline so working on the hairline with your texture, shears, i'm just going to lift and i'm Just nibble it in nibble it in left and right, just look left and right dip dip and that just helps you see because the way the hair grows. So you know when the hairlines you want to make it so that it's clean, but it's a more natural finish. Her hairline is quite low, so the texturizing shears can just really help in the hair and just chopping in just little bits of detail thrown stuff around. I got excited carl you like it. You like that yeah, it's a great way to do it. You can do it with a comb. You can do it with your fingers just chop into it. Oh they just take out uh. They don't take cut all the hair. They just add they take out some of the thickness within the hair because they have these fine teeth. So these fine teeth, as you cut, doesn't cut everything so it thins the hair out. Remember i did something on this side, but i cut this shorter. So i'm not trying to i'm not trying to mirror it, but i'm just going to bust in a little bit right here. I'Ve never seen what he looks like he started. Talking about me. What'S it about, you must have done too much. Where is it, man is that in albuquerque, yeah yeah she's the one with the bangs right yeah. Oh thanks almost done i'll pick up the dryer in a second blast. The hair out give it a light spritz with uh with the hydro mist. Then i'm gon na put a little bit of uh. I use my scissor my razor first, my scissor second and then the texturizer third, oh we're gon na go in with fiber. Aren'T we fiber good? That'S nice! It'S a nice way twist it and just texturize it! Don'T need the iron on, don't need it yet. Okay, let's have a little look and see uh-oh, just be careful with that box. Don'T touch it so now. What we're going to do is i'll. Take a little hydro, little hydro mist, it's my favorite product, just spritz! It i'm going to take my fiber, which is a little textural product, just going to punch a little bit of fiber into the into my hand. There you go push that in so i've got my fiber now what i'm going to do? Sorry, it's hard to do. Pass me, the shiny, looks oil, i'm gon na take a little of this. This is shine. Look soil, i'm gon na just put it together, it's gon na add the slip, and i'm not scared. Put about six drops in that's gon na create a look at it's like a clear now. Let'S turn the product into a clear, see how it's turned it clear and now we're gon na put it throughout and we're just going to rub it all the way in get up there you go, she wants to be a little mohawker. She can. The key here is just to really get it throughout the head. It gives you it gives you the hold with the fiber, which also has the memory, but the shine look style gives it more slip more slip and slide. I'M not going to really pick the comb out, i'm going to just work with it with my hands, always checking, even as you ease and even as you finish, the cut you're always checking it's not over till she leaves yeah it's not over till she leaves, and It'S not going to be over until we finish megan, so we're going to bring beggan back in a minute and i'm going to style her rock so use your hands to push the sharpness in yeah use your hands. You don't have to get the comb or anything. Just use your hands: let's have megan, come and sit on the corner of the chair. The fiber gives the hair some hold, so you know you do that and then what you're going to do is you're going to kind of push that this way and see what happens, because i think that also you get a different feel if you go in here. Can i get the diffuser on this dryer too for megan, you guys look similar. You guys have similar faces. You'Re gon na see this. At the end, they look the same. Only one's blonde and one's brunette, one's shaggy and one's twiggy had a graduation this week. In my school, which was good, more hairdressers out into the universe, and we have another program starting at the end of uh end of the month, so we're excited for that all right before you go. Don'T do anything yet i'm just going to clean up here. Don'T move all right, let's get megan in just come and you can just sit on that chair. There sweet huh, let's bring megan in and let's see what we got still damp so now we're going to dry it even more we're going to make it up because it looks a bit flat and lifeless and i'm going to make it wild and spectacular. So i've got my diffuser on high speed high heat. There you go head forward still all still damp. You got to get this bone dry bone dry, the texture, paste fattens, the hair. I mean it kind of doesn't fatten the hair. The texture paste will make the hair feel skinny and if you can see that smoke, that's like the product evaporating. That'S! When the hair changes high heat, we get to see that it's the wires pack diffuser. So i'm glad it's about a little bit of rain. For us, because that speeds up the process, the texture paste, holds the head together, more so we're going to have to loosen it out, so the hair gets wilder, and here we use wave mist, cream whip and texture paste to give us that piecy texture.
