My name is Dana and I make curly hair videos to help embrace your natural curly or wavy texture. Here you'll find curly / wavy hair routines, product reviews, first impressions, lifestyle content, and more! I hope you stick around :)

Hey guys some beer back in my bathroom today, I am going to be doing a highly requested video, and this is how I trip up my hair. I have gotten so many d-ends and questions and comments asking how I cut my own hair, and I was so scared to do this. Video and I've been putting it off and I even said I didn't want to do it, but I figured it just. It can't hurt to show how I trim it. My hair, I don't give myself any drastic cuts when I cut my hair at home, and I get a lot of questions about how my hair grows so fast, and I really believe that my hair started growing really quickly. Once I started trimming it at home and I trim my hair about every eight weeks or so that's what I try to do it I'll notice that the ends of my hair start getting really dry one, but they'll also start to get very knotty. And that's when I know that it's time to do a little bit of a trim. So that's what we're going to be doing today for those of you who want to be a little bit more adventurous and maybe try this out. Hopefully this helps so I am, of course, not a professional by any means, but please buy yourselves a pair of scissors. I purchased this little kit on Amazon. You could probably go to Sally's and get a pair of scissors. Just don't use your kitchen or nail scissors. So I always like to start out with these shorter layers up front. I'Ve actually already sectioned them off, but I can kind of just show you what I did so I'll. Take kind of like a triangular section, almost like you're cutting bangs, make sure it's a nice. Even section - and this is just falling a little bit in front of your ears and once you have that section - you can go ahead and I like to use this little pointy edge of this comb. It'S definitely a name for it. I just can't think of it. Right now, even it out on the other side, you also want to make sure that you have some hair clips handy so because my hair was professionally and evenly cut before a little trick. That I like to do is when I section off my hair. I just like to make sure that the hair I'm sectioning is about the same length. So I know that I'm getting a nice even cut, so you can see that both of the hairs on either side and right about like at the top of my boobs, so we're good here. So this is not all going to be cut in the same length, and I do recommend that if you don't have a haircut that you can follow like so you just want to give yourself some face framing pieces to start off with. I would go ahead and do a smaller section to begin so maybe take like this much hair first and then kind of work. Your way out, especially if you have thinner hair, because the more you're going to take from it, the less volume you're gon na, have it like the main parts of your hair. So just keep that in mind when you're sectioning off work in smaller sections, if possible from here we're gon na section off our hair, even further, just kind of clip these little like Bank pieces up. So even from here we do have two different lengths as well. These outermost pieces here are definitely the longest. The ends do get really thin, so I'm gon na just trim as much as I think I need so once I cut one side so then I like to very loosely gather them just so I can make sure that they are somewhat even okay. So we'll do the same thing with the second longest layer of this section. This I don't really need much off of I'll, probably just cut this little ring light right here, bring these two together and trim tuck this behind her ears. It'S the same thing. We have even within these layers, we have the longer pieces here. So let's go ahead and section that off and I want to cut those two about my chin, so I'll leave a little bit extra on there line it up at the other side and then for these front layers. I do like to angle them a bit more because I don't like them to be as blunt and then I'll take an even smaller section of that section and do the same thing. But with this shortest section, I do like to kind of cut upwards. As a final cut, okay, so, as you guys probably saw, I did end up cutting fringe, I did it at the end of my haircut. It was kind of impulsive, but if you want to see how I do that watch until the very end, I didn't really explain it, because I was winging it and had really no idea what the hell I was doing. I will do a separate video when I trim my fringe or my bangs, to kind of explain it to you guys, but if you just want to watch how I did it then be sure to stay until the end. Okay. So now we are going to work on the longer layers and again, I kind of just like to section off my hair, just making sure that all the hair I grab is about the same length. I have shorter and slightly longer layers within this section, so I'm going to kind of pull the longer layers back and work on these shorter ones. First and I just like to go through and see where the dead ends are so where my curls aren't curling anymore and I'll go back and forth on either side and do this and then even it out. Because I do want to make sure that I am cutting enough off where I'm getting the damaged hair. So now I can bring these layers forward and do the exact same thing. Now. I'Ve reached the last layer before we get to the length of my hair, and I do the exact same thing. So I just go through any pieces that feel a bit dead or dry I'll kind of just cut the curls individually. When I get to the bottom layer, that's kind of going to do the most conventional, like straight across trimming, I didn't realize I wasn't in frame because I was varying the zone of cutting my hair. But I'm doing the same thing here where I gather both sides of my hair together in the center and just trimmed to make sure that it's at an even or somewhat you even lent. So now we're at the length of my hair and, like I said, and I kind of just go through and trim this a bit more conventionally, alright. So once I finished trimming the last layer of my hair, that is the haircut completed. If I wanted to just trim my hair, but as I mentioned earlier, I did cut fringe so keep watching if you'd like to see the experimental portion of how I cut my bangs and it actually turned out pretty good, I'm happy with it hi again. I guess I can do some explaining here to kind of help you out a bit, but I am sectioning off a small triangle. Again, I'm not taking all of my shorter pieces of my hair, but a nice chunk and just trimming that and then doing those upward cuts. So it's not so blunt and then from here I am taking a smaller section of hair and I'm going to cut that even shorter at first. We want to make sure that the parting is even sorry. I'M like trying to watch this as I'm explaining it, because I really don't even remember what I did. Okay, so we're getting a nice even part here again a smaller section and then we are going to cut that even shorter. So I think I'm going to cut that straight across first yep and then I'll probably do the upward cut again and then, oh here, I'm doing an upward cut on either side kind of to angle the hair, because I like that curtain fringe sort of look. So I can wear it parted in the center, so yeah. So I'm just doing that upward, cut kind of at an angle, so the shortest pieces will be closest to my face and then the longest or sorry. The shortest pieces will be closest to the center of my face and then the longest will be away. From my face and I'll actually insert some pictures that I took of what my hair looks like today, so you can see what it looks like done and then that is going to complete this haircut video. I hope you guys found this helpful. Thank you. So much for watching - and I will see you next time - you

Olivia O: I’m a hairstylist and I find these videos so interesting. I also love cutting my own bangs because I don’t trust anyone else with them

Ageha Age: I envy stright haired people. :") They could easily have cute bangs and style their hair while i'm here struggling with my slinky like hair

Corina Barbu: I have curly hair and i watched this and ended up from cutting my ends to cutting my hair really short, that was the most spontaneous thing i’ve ever done and I love it so much

bella e.z: So corona virus quarantine is keeping me from going to get my bangs cut, so I feel like I’m just gonna go for it and cut them myself. I’m hoping for curtain bangs so let’s see what happens edit: I did it Edit 2: responding to all y’all asking how they look, a lot of my fam said they looked good, but I’m not a fan so I’m just growing them out. The shortest pieces with a middle part go past my nose and the shortest pieces with a side part hit a little below my eye. So they aren’t like a full bang more of a side bang situation. Not the worst but rlly think it through if you’re gonna do it. I should’ve realized I have big voluminous wavy/curly hair that I love to have messy and loose. Bangs are not for that.

kittylilly: THIS IS A SIGN i'm gonna get curly bangs

Rebekah Mikaelson: should have watched this like ten minutes ago

Somerainmustfall: You’re so brave! By the way, I wanted to thank you for always playing such soothing relaxing music in your videos instead of something loud and/or annoying.

My name has been taken: So I've just finished this tutorial and I really like it! I started with no framing pieces so I had to make some and I must say it turned out pretty good. So thank you so much for sharing this ❤️

Jen _29: this was actually pretty helpful...taking bits and pieces from every tutorial. Let's hope this goes well!

Savvy714: Your hair is so much like mine!! Thank you this was helpful ^^ <3

Sara: I have trimmed my hair a few times now. The last I had it done professionally was March. I like having control over how much is taken off, especially because my curls are very different on different sections of my head (top part is much curlier than underneath). I've definitely messed up slightly (it's hard getting the back! Lol), but I'd rather be upset with myself and shrug it off than have a professional mess it up or take off more than I'd like and I still gotta pay for it. I think I have the same scissors. I also trim my toddler's hair which is a whoooole different ballgame! Fine, straight boy hair and fear of scissors and clippers. It's fun hahaha

foalspreshow: IM SO THANKFUL FOR THIS VIDEO! I’d been cutting my bangs at home and loved it - went to a salon and they totally botched them :( gonna use your tutorial to fix it back up ❤️❤️

Sandra: Did just the bangs and I'm satisfyied with the results. I'm going forward to see how it looks out of the shower so I can make my final veredict.

Pawchan stories: That’s it. I’m getting them tomorrow Guys I did it and I love so much Update: I trimmed them

CaroSam Chwa: Idk why but while you were cutting your hair you were giving me Kiera Knightly pirates of the Caribbean vibes. The bangs look super cute!

lulujean88: THE BEST - I have a cosmetology license. Unless you have customers with really curly hair, schools don't teach you what we need to know. Be careful with "chipping" cutting up - it can cause frizz. TY!

Seunghun's Pompompurin: Just took the risk qnd i have to say although it's not perfect like yours i love it..mine seems more like a step because my curls are not as defined as yours but I'm happy to see some change..thank you so much for the video although now my whole body hurts from the session

Michelle Ospina P: I have a similar hair texture and I cut my own bangs today! I'll prob cut them a bit shorter, but I loove them so far

Fi Fi: God I LOVE your hair. You’re the only you tuber with hair similar to mine. So glad I found you!

Jillian Gilbert: I want them. I want to do them myself. My mom is a hairdresser. She’s in another state. She’d kill me if I did this myself. But the temptation is too much. Sorry mom.

Laryssa Lima: Hey, I'm from Brazil and my hair is just like yours. Thanks for the subtitle in portuguese on the video, very useful

Cyndi Kehrli: I've been cutting my own hair for last 6 years after the absolute worst haircut on the planet. It's not rocket science. You have to really know your own hair, good scissors and lighting are essential.

Kiss Koh: For those peopleee who have the same hair as she did,a little warning for youu I did this and you need to be super precise. One little mistake gonna make your hair looks like a hat.Goodluck!

Nae Smitty: Life saver!! I love them :)

Haley17: Oh my goddd I was looking for advice on how to have my hair cut from people with the same hair as me. I decided on cutting my own hair two days ago and kinda botched it, this should have come out just days ago.

Alyssa Bernice: Love it Dana!

Nicole Foti: It looks amazing but I know I would mess this up for myself hahah

Samantha Friginal: For years I asked myself why curly bangs don't seem to look good on me. It only dawned on me now that the reason is because I have too few hair :( My hair strands are thick and really freakin healthy but there's too few of them for my liking. It made me so sad watching this video lol

Noelle: time to get the craft scissors out ladies

Muskan Mohabe: My hair have a lot of volume , they are below hips , they are cruly like yours And damn with everything I don't know how to put them nicely Thankieee for making this video ❤️

Guadalupe Mercado: 5th day of quarantine and I’m cutting my bangs lol

Aida Syazrina: Love your curls! Mine is quite frizzy

brandyxp: Could you do a video on how you style it now like let it dry because my curly bangs look too curly lol

josephina: the cover pictures looked sooooo different from the girl in the video i had to do a double take damn...

Sakshi Singh: Just came back from school. Gonna do this right now..

Travis: you look amazing in the thumbnail

A D: My hair texture is exactly like yours and I so wanna try this

lou-salome Arlandis: Am I the only one who felt like she was gonna kill me the first seconds? Like she spoke so fast and aggressively i got scared

Hachimitsu Chan: quarantine just gave me glow ups especially I'm a little nerdy with volcanoes on my forehead and where high ponytails lol.

Kimberly Bayer: Thank uu so much

White Swan: Wish you explained better about how many inches apart. Also would be nice to see a video of your bangs after not just pictures.

Rachel Ann: Would I use the same method if I have a side part?

Diane Termin: Did you do this on freshly washed hair?

abcd: Thinking of getting bangs tomorrow but I am sooo scared that it will be awful, last time I had bangs was like 8 years ago. So scared

Tiya: Can u plz tell me which is the filter u use for ur cover picture ,plz...

Estefany Gonzalez: What’s the haircut you ask for at the salon?

sylvia mitchell: I’m really bored and corona is truly making me question my sanity lmao. Like nobodies gonna see me for a few months sooooo maybe I should lol
