I'm going to show you today how to control curly hair. First thing that you want to consider is what you're trying to control. You're trying to control frizz. That might be a product issue, but we're going to also deal with frizz today. One thing that I'm going to do to help control her hair is, she's got a little inconsistency in her curl pattern.

We started by first twisting the hair and then diffusing it with our product in there. Then I'm just going to go and even out her hair. Around her face, her curls tend to get a little bit separate and we're going to take care of that with a curling iron. I've already misted on a heat protectant spray. I'm just going to tong the hair. All I'm going to do is I'm going to point my curling iron down and I'm going to wrap the hair around. I'm going to wrap starting at the root and I'm going to hold the tip in my hand. That's a great thing to keep in mind because it's going to keep the end of the hair natural and it's going to help it to blend with the non-curled section. We're not going to curl every piece on her head. We're just going to curl what needs it.

After I curl it I kind of mess it up. I like to do this technique. I like to use this as part of my routine. The first day I wear my hair I will wear it curly, then this is usually what I do to it the second day to kind of refine it and make it wearable again. I usually take the top section, so on either side of the part-line, and curl those. Then I'll curl anything around the fact that's become too expanded. Then you can just kind of spot check. If you see anything else in there, just go ahead and tong it.

This is also a great technique if you wanted to take and maybe make the size of your curls a little bit bigger, kind of that Carrie Bradshaw look. You could take your natural curls and then take a curling iron that was slightly bigger than your curls and do that. Or, you could take the same size curling iron as your actual curl and just put more hair in it, so you'll take a bigger section of hair. Then you would just continue to do this on either side of the part and right around the hairline, and then any other place that you wanted to. You could obviously do this to the whole head.

You could also take a toothbrush, an unused toothbrush of course, one of the cheaper ones that doesn't have any special fancy things, spritz a little bit of hairspray on it, and then you can just kind of pat down this part line where all the frizz might be. That's just one of the ways to help control curly hair.
