Hi guys it's lana here welcome back to lana summer, summertime, i'm actually so excited. This is going to be so fun. Today'S video we're going to have to rewind a little bit, i'm taking it back to the 90s, the early 2000s i'm gon na recreate some of my childhood hairstyles. One thing you need to know about me is: i was a wild child. All i cared about was being active getting muddy. I did not care or think about what i looked like and if anyone ever styled my hair, i was guaranteed to rough it up within five minutes. This video is going to be dedicated to my mum, because, even though she had really limited knowledge and products about curly hair, she still tried her hardest bear in mind. My mom has pins straight hair, like you know that kind of hair that looks straightened when it's not, she doesn't even have any kind of wave or anything. She literally washes her hair brushes it that's it. No one has ever needed to do less to their hair than my mom. So then, when she had us kids, she really had to learn about hair and she didn't have the internet. She didn't have google there weren't books about it in the libraries i know like i'm kind of old, but if you are a teen and you're watching this just try to imagine a world without youtube without google and she did actually come up with quite a few Cute looks that i can recreate today this video is being sponsored by anna louisa. I changed my top because i realized that my hair really does not pop against a black top, i'm gon na wear white. Instead, i was planning for this video. It was so fun because i had to go over to my mom's house. We had a good old look through. We went down memory lane. I have all these photos and i've sorted them into different hairstyles. So this is the first hairstyle that i used to kind of rock. Quite often, basically, it's two bunches with some curls coming down. Like you see my little curls when i was little, they had like these little ringlets that used to come down my fringe, so i'm gon na do the two bunches one of the most common questions i get. When i'm doing my hairstyles videos, people always want to know how do i style my hair without causing frizz or like losing definition? Well, my top tip for you is that curly hair does not like straight lines. What do i mean by that? I mean like sometimes you want to make a part in, and you realize you got like separate a curl to get it to be perfectly straight. Your hair's not gon na, like it, your hair, wants to be where it wants to be with. If the strands are friends with each other, like they've clumped together now, and if you want to separate them, you either have to be extremely gentle and delicate with it or you just have to scrap the whole idea and just let the girls do what they want To do i generally just let them do what they want to do, and another thing is: if you are going to try and brush your hair or even comb, it that's also going to create frizz. I see everyone always wants to brush curly hair and make it go sleek into a ponytail like that definitely looks good, but you don't have to do it and i personally really love the textured look of curly hair. Like you see all these bumps and waves going into the ponytail, i think it looks great and i think it's a shame that we try to squash it down all the time. So i'm just going to leave that there i'm going to tie my hair into a bunchy and i'm using satin scrunchies for this, which are from my brand hitchy, i'm going to leave that linked down below. So you guys can check it out now with this piece of hair. I could leave it kind of frizzy like this, like i probably would have done when i was a kid, but we can do it better. I can define it so i'm just going to spray. It very lightly because it's such a small piece of hair and then i'm going to take one of my favorite pieces of equipment. This is my pinto comb. Okay, then i'm just going to take a little bit of edge control. I am just going to run that onto my edges. This video is being sponsored by anna louisa anna louise is a new york based jewelry company that specializes in producing luxury jewelry items at affordable prices. Louisa jewellery is made using sustainable materials and ethical practices. I make the most beautiful jewelry items and i absolutely love them so i'm currently wearing this heart, pendant and matching earring set, which i absolutely love. I also thought that something from anna louisa would make a great gift for my mom this mother's day. So i picked up this gorgeous dainty gold, necklace and matching earrings set with cubic zirconia stone and i'm gon na gift it to her this mother's day. I can't wait for her to see it and just let her know that i'm so thankful for everything that she's done for me over the years. So anna louise actually has a huge sale on right now. I'Ll leave all of their information linked in the description box. Down below make sure you check them out and let's get on with the rest of the video this next hairstyle. I only have this picture of it, which is such a shame. I'M sure there were more photos of this hairstyle and i know that there was like a whole era where i was doing my hair like this. In my family we really didn't take a lot of photos, but i remember this hair, so i can fill in the blanks. So i've got two sections in my hair. This one i'm gon na put that to one side and with this one i'm gon na twist. It and she's kind of clipped that quite close to the back, using butterfly clips and like little jelly clips and stuff. She also twisted this i'm going to do the same on the other side, so this next hairstyle. Basically, i used to wear my hair like this. All the time it's like these little pigtails, it's so cute. I feel like in this picture. This is maybe, when i figured out how to do it myself. Whenever i did this, i would never use like black scrunchies. I would always use like colored scrunchies, so i'm going to use like these really pale pink mini satin scrunchies from my brand and just seal that up. Oh, my gosh. I'Ve not done my hair like this. In so long. It'S all so cute! There we go. That'S it so this hairstyle is so easy i feel like. I should be. You know in gardening overalls. Right now, like it looks very much like my name is daisy. I wear a polka dot dress. It looks so cute like looking so curly at the ends. I got the curlies coming down in the front. Yes, oh my gosh, this hairstyle is a winner, and i know that eight-year-old me would be so proud of myself for how quickly and how neatly i just braided this. I think this is a great hairstyle for kids, because it's so easy to teach them how to do it, and i think that plaiting and braiding is such an essential skill to know, especially if you have long hair. This is definitely a hairstyle that kids can learn to do themselves and they can take it and run with it and they can switch it up. However, they want to and they can fix it up if it gets messy at school and it just really takes the responsibility out of the parents hands in many ways, because then the kid just kind of has power over how their hair looks and i think that's A really good thing, that's actually how i started learning how to flat and braid my hair. So i would do mine like this and then i had like toy horses and ponies and things i learned to cornrow by cornrowing their manes. I did fishtail braids on their tails, so yeah, that's really how i started getting into hairstyling in the first place was from plaits and braids. We can pinpoint it all back to this hairstyle all right. This next hairstyle it's kind of like a half up a half down, except there's three ponytails on top, and i'm just trying to look at the way that my mom did it and it doesn't seem like she like. She didn't split my hair into three. She did like two and then there's just like one at the back. This is one of the hairstyles where you might actually want to use a comb to get straight lines. But again you don't need to okay, so i've clipped the rest of my hair out of the way so that i can do this and keep everything nice and smooth. And i am really going to use a brush this time because when my mom did it, she had it quite smooth. I in these pictures i'm using all white scrunchies, but i'm gon na use these brown scrunchies. Today i feel like this is the vibe. Oh my gosh, okay, so i decided i actually want it to be a little bit sleeker, so i am going to spray it very lightly and i'm going to use some of the curl company styling cream gel as well, because this is so great for flyaways. I'M gon na let the rest of my hair down okay, so there you have it. That is this kind of like this style. Oh my gosh, how comes when i do it looks crazy. My mom did it. She made it look so cool. I'M gon na lay down some edges. My edges definitely were not laid in any of these hairstyles. I had literally never even heard of laying down your edges. Baby hairs edge, control gel. This is the style. Let me know what you think in the comment section down below okay, but this next one i kind of feel like the start, is pretty much the same, except it looks. It definitely looks as though my mom started wet hair and then she's kind of twisted it into these space buns and stuck a big scrunchie on top, so she's used like red, pink i'm gon na use like this kind of like dusty, pink color, i'm just going To keep it the same, because it's kind of the same formation as before, and i'm just going to put that right on top like that now something you need to know about this hairstyle is, i did not leave the house with my hair. Looking like this, this was around about christmas time. New year we were on holiday from school and i don't know if we were having like a family like a tiny little family party or something like just the household or what i think. I remember at the time. Thinking that this was like a really nice hairstyle, okay, this next one - this is definitely me branching off into my own style. I don't like this is definitely like a childhood hairstyle, but these are like my oldest child years, so i was like 12 in this photo that i'm gon na put here. Everyone in school was doing their hair like this, so i joined in. So all i did is i'd get up in the morning. I'D put a ton of soft and free in my hair, so my hair would feel curly. It wasn't voluminous like they're, just really really curly, and i would literally just take like a straight running strip of hair like this and then i honestly, i don't remember what hair clips i used. I imagine it was probably these and i thought that this looked amazing. The last one that i want to show you guys this was this was my everyday. This was my everything and it was none other than the high sleep class. That was a lie. I never really did it very sleek. I never really did it very high. It was never very neat, but you know it worked kept my hair from tangling up. It was a good protective style. We were protective styling before we had any idea what we were even doing so that was good. You guys know that meme, that's like. Ah, what do you do for your arm? Workouts, i style my hair. That'S what i do for my arm. Workouts. Okay, you just need three sections. You guys know three, even sections. Now you see all this fuzz. I used to get that like times 100.. The difference is now: i've got like flyaway products and edge control, and that kind of thing which i didn't have back, then i'm gon na get all of this and i'm gon na put it all over my hair. So this was my other most common hairstyle that i wore my whole life. But honestly, i never did it like high and sleek like this. It was always kind of like. I don't even know how you can make this look more plain, but it was always more plain looking than this and then i would walk along and i would try and like swing. My plait like this and i'd be like that's just how i walk it. Just swings, i'm not doing anything it just and people would sit behind me on the bus and they'd like pull it and they'd go ding dong, ding dong like just pull it, but still i always want my hair like this. Let me know what you think. Let me know which one of these is your favorite hairstyle in the comment section down below. Will you be trying any of them out on yourself there's quite a few that i can imagine you probably won't be, but do you have a little one that you needed ideas for i've got fond memories attached to these hairstyles, so this was a really fun video To film okay guys, i really hope that you enjoyed that video. I had so much fun getting this all together. I was over at my mom's house and we had a big look through all the photographs to pull out these photos and i just loved making this video.
