Short Curly Hair Cut Start To Finish

Caroline Harwood: I have similar hair to that and have never, in my whole life found a hairdresser who understood how to cut curly hair. However, I was forced to address the situation myself during lockdown (hate that word!). I have a kind of curly “pixie” (another annoying word!!) cut. I had finally persuaded my hairdresser to cut it dry but she doesn’t approve! I normally go to have it “tweaked” every three weeks, mainly because the sides get too bulky, but I don’t want her to blend the whole thing and follow her standard recipe for a short hair cut. She cannot get her head around leaving odd bits longer, where the hair curls in odd directions. So I invested in some professional, quality hairdressing scissors and have been “sculpting” my own hair. Honestly, I think I will stick with doing my own! It is very difficult to shape the back but as I would say it is more like sculpting a form and it is possible to hold up a mirror, eye up the form and go freestyle! I’ve been far more devastated at the butchery I’ve suffered in the hands of some very expensive hairdressers! Anyway, this is the perfect opportunity to experiment! Nobody sees me, except my husband who says it looks as good, if not better than when I’ve been to the hairdresser. I think it looks better!!

I just wish people commenting bad could learn something with this video: when cutting curly hair, especially loose curls like these, one MUST ALWAYS respect the curl´s natural fall. If stretched and cut like straight hair it can cause over cutting, wrong curl patterns and mismatched look. This is how all professionals and not should start cutting curls!!! I am of mixed origin (Capeverdean) and my hair is not afro nor straight. It is very difficult to find a good hairdresser/barber to my kind of hair texture and curl pattern. Well done, EJ!
