How To Create A Diy Waterfall Braid | Cute Girls Hairstyles

This 2-minute tutorial is the most-popular Waterfall Braid tutorial on YouTube! It's a follow-up to our original tutorial, the first on YouTube, after fans said it was impossible to create on yourself!

This video was filmed back in 2010, before the craze of the Waterfall Braid hit the world, with all its many hair tutorials. We filmed the original tutorial on KamriNoel, but the comment section was ablaze with many viewers saying that this Waterfall braid was IMPOSSIBLE to do as a DIY. I knew this wasn't true.

So, I had been doing it on myself for about a year now, so I asked Shaun to grab the camera and quickly film me showing how to do this on yourself.

As you can see, if you can get the braid stranding down, it is fairly easy to do on yourself. If you can braid a french braid on your own, you can do this braid!

My little girl Kamri was the one who coined the term "Waterfall Braid", since the strands look like water falling through the rocks at the top of waterfall.

This plait makes for a perfect base for homecoming, Prom, a wedding, dance, or any other formal or informal occasion!

Where would you wear this beautiful braided hairstyle?

Enjoy!

Ok. We get a ton of emails about the waterfall French braid and people asking if they can do it on their own hair instead of having somebody do it for them. So I am going to demo the waterfall French braid on my hair. Now granted. You can see my hair is super super short and I have it cut A-line. So I have not a ton to work with, but I will show you how you can do it.. Let'S do it., So I'm just going to start by --. I have some bangs.. I'M going to grab a little section of bangs and I'm just going to start a normal braid.. Ok, now at the top, you pick up a piece and add it in just like a regular French braid and at the bottom. Instead of picking up a piece and adding in you're just going to drop that piece and then you're going to pick up from behind that piece and add it in and at the top pick up, hair and add it in regular. At the bottom drop that piece. Go right behind it pick up And you just keep doing that. You can see. I can just kind of tug it out of the way and pick up behind it. Until you get all the way. Back. I'll do one more. And you of course, can go back as far as or as little as you want., And then you just secure that with an elastic and there you have the waterfall French braid, but done on yourself.

Lilster: Thank you for doing a video where you do it on yourself! Please make more like this because it is so helpful! I'm the only one in my family interested in braids (and with long enough hair to do braids) so it is really helpful when you do videos like this(:

Sarah Edwards: Thank you for making a tutorial that had clear directions now I actually understand how to waterfall braid I've been trying to master this braid but it never quite turns out right this tutorial was wonderful :)

fruitsforlife1: It's absolutely insane to me how much has changed for this family since I first watched this video. I've been a fan for a decade now <3

I rarely find YT channels that have been around this long & still active! Good job to the whole family for creating content for the past 10 years till now!

TqqMuffiN: You made it look so simple! I love the tutorial! & I think it's cute how your husband is recording (:

Lauren A: I love this tutorial, I think people just can't see it well compared to the other videos because it's harder to see intricate braids in dark hair :)

Rae3642: This is one of the hairstyles that I really want to learn when my hair finally grows out, but I just know it's going to go like this: Before braiding: right, I can do this, the video made it look really easy... ten seconds later: nevermind, I'll just wear it down.

Valerie Steffen: Just learned how to do this by watching this video! Thanks :) All your videos are wonderful.

Purvi Patel: I love this way can't wait to try it out. Thanks! :)

Danielle P: Thank you for your tutorial...now I can braid my own hair...and my daughter hair:)

Lilo S.: Ahh so simple now. So pretty much when you start the French braid, you keep adding on the top. The bottom, instead of adding the section back into the braid, you let it drop. Then grab a new section of hair, which is then added into the braid, while leaving the "waterfall" alone. It is great! Thanks for sharing!

Aya Mudwab: Thank you so so soo much mindy that was really helping I now always try it on thank you very much

Kali Holsinger: You make it look so easy!!!! I can’t do any of this… I really wish I could though. That would be awesome. I always try and then give up because i don’t know where or how to start with my long thick tangly hair. ugh

Becky Castaño: Who’s watching 9 years later? 2019 Oh just me?

A Grande Abobora: Wow.. I really loved it !!! xoxo

Jess W: I've always thought this was SO hard, but it's really not that hard if u think about it, just do a normal French braid and just drop the bottom strand and pick up a different one. A big trick is to start the braid by crossing the top over the middle FIRST! It'll help a lot more and hopefully stop the struggling.

Marissa: I did it! So proud of myself!

Charlotte Bøhlerengen: It really helped me, thank u!! :)

Elena Zaitova: hair falls on tehneke three strand braid will always be true, it can be done by yourself quickly and easily on any length of hair. You agree?

liliana ontiveros: I finally did it!!! i was able to do this to my daugther but not to myself. I guess the secret is the way you hold the pieces with your fingers. when i tried adding new hair to the braid i ended up with only 2 strands or 4....it takes only a litttle practice. And we both have curly so that makes it more diffficult because you can not separate the pieces as easy as Ms. Mindy does.

Missy Sue: Love this hairstyle and the tutorial is so easy to follow! Check out my version of this look! How to do a Waterfall Braid

HeyHeyMikaikai: Wow! This is a really old vid! But thanks for the tutorial! Your channel has come so far!

Cali Christmas: Thank you so much for this Mindy!

Richard Padron: This is great but as a single father How do I keep my little girl to sit still and let me do this? You sell shirts but I need you to sell a tranquilizer lol Make a video for toddlers for single fathers

Saskia Parker: Finally this video really made it clear and easy thx

Destiny Rowell: Love this look

Danielle Eaton Hart: thank you so much. It took several times of going through different videos but I think I finally got it.

Jiana H: Whoa, 28 million views!! That must be so cool for you guys!! Also you're so good at doing hair!

Alex Cartwright: Please! CGH I am not much into hair, sorry, but I have a request. Can you please make a tutorial on how to make something like a side cut/faux undercut with braids? (If you don't know what it is and Google Images fails, it looks like one shaves the side of their head, but it is braided back with this braids; a french braid maybe?) Please, I really want to know how to do that with my hair but I need your help!

Cherryy Chauhan: This is the first ever hairstyle i learned from CGH. Thanks!

Renée Chérie Cantu Lima: This is the video I use to show others how to do the braid... even still. :)

REVI PM: she is so good at it and she literally just took 2 minutes for that.I would literally take forever to do it

ibyl: Great tutorial!

hArRyPoTtErLoVeR70: My hair is too sleek for this. Like I have zero texture in my hair so hairstyles like this don't stay :(

Priscilla Ontiveros: Best waterfall french braid tutorial!

Maryam Farooq: it was very helpful thanks :)

Mikayla Reynolds: I stink at braiding my hair but this has helped a little bit! thank you!
