Hello there, my beautiful darling, i am 5 too, if you're petite. Like me, your hair can play a very big role in your body proportion when you're considering the best hairstyles for short women. Your height is not only factor, but it is one very important factor to consider because of our height our head can come across as bigger on us compared with someone who is taller. Besides a lot of petite, women have narrow shoulders like myself and that can also make our head look bigger. I used to think from a naturally straight hair in order to add some volume to my hair, i needed to do the perms. I know you probably have never done any problems since high school. I was also trying to curl it at home. What happened is the curls do add a lot of volume to the hair, but i noticed they also make my head look bigger. My head already looks bigger because of my height, so i do not suggest you do that if you want to increase your hair volume without having to increase the size of your head, one way to do it. I just recently discovered it is to get a blunt cut. If you cut a straight across without any layering or texturizing, you actually make your hair look thicker, and that way your head will not look bigger. Generally speaking, shorter hairstyles are one of the best options for petite women, because when your hair is shorter, it draws attention upwards. It brings focus to your face. That is what you want. That is one of the easiest ways to flatter a petite woman. The bob haircuts have been very much on trend for the past decade or even longer, and it's not going anywhere. It'S also one of the most universally flattering haircuts, regardless of your height and your body shape. There are so many different types of bob cuts in order to find what works best for you. You need to consider the other side of the equation. Besides your height, and that is your face shape. If your face is rounded like mine, you can consider a longer than your chin length and that can elongate your face and balance out the roundness of your face shape. You can also consider a side parting. A little bit of a symmetry on your face will also balance out the roundness of your face shape. If you have an oval shaped face, congratulations, your face is considered the most balanced face, shape so pretty much. Any type of bobcats can look good on you. If your face is longer, that means you have plenty of space on your forehead, you have longer forehead, you can't consider any type of bands to balance it out, or you can also consider a shorter bob, that's above the chin lens, and that can also balance out Your face shape, if your face is heart shaped. That means you have wider forehead, higher, cheekbones and pointed chain, i think, that's absolutely lovely, like rhys, witherspoon and she's five too. By the way you can consider a bad cut that creates more volume around your jawline. To balance out the pointed chain and consider a side fringe that can balance out your wider forehead. If your face is square shaped like kieran nelly or jennifer aniston, you have strong jaw lines. You can consider a slightly longer bob, a mid-length bob with textures and that can balance out your strong jaw lines. Besides the bob another wonderful option for petite women is the pixie cuts. The pinky is even shorter than the bob, so it can draw all the attention upwards and bring even more focus to your face. If you're, a mature lady, getting a pixie cut, the right pixie cut can immediately make you look 20 years younger because it can make you look so chic and modern, because a pixie can bring more focus to your face. You do want to be more careful about it. If your face is flashy like mine, i have a flashy face and it's never boney. Even when i am skinny, and especially when i gain any weight, you will immediately notice that on my face, because my face will look much more rounded right away. If you are like that, then you want to be more careful with the pixie, because that can make it even more obvious. Your hairstyle needs to be in proportion not only with your height, but also with your body scale. The pixie haircuts are great for the teeth because they can make your hair appear smaller and that can balance out your height, but on the other hand, if you are a petite girl with a heavier set, if you are a petite plus size girl, then you do Want to make sure your head doesn't look too small and that can look out of balance with your body size. Now, here's another very important consideration your lifestyle, if you're the type of girl that get out of the bed and need to leave the door in five minutes, you might want to consider a lower maintenance. Hairstyle shorter hairstyle are great at all, but i did notice. They need more maintenance. I'Ve had a long bob for many many years and that's one of my favorite hairstyles. However, after i had my son, i realized i didn't have this kind of time to go to the hair salon every three weeks. Besides, it does add up the bills, so, if you're like me, you can't consider lower maintenance hairstyle. That'S why i choose my current hairstyle, the straight long hair. If you're petite, that doesn't mean your only option is shorter hair. You can definitely look good with longer hair as well, and the key is to keep the lens imbalance with your height. Take myself for an example, i love long straight hair. Generally speaking, shoulder length works for petite women of any height. If you like it longer, i typically keep it above my chest. I'Ve noticed if i grow longer than my chest like if you wear the waistlines that can weigh me down and that doesn't look proportional to my height. I am 5'2 by the way when we're talking about a short girl with really long hair, the first person that comes to mind ariana grande. She is absolutely gorgeous she's five foot tall and she has really long hair. Those are her hair extensions. Most of the time she has it up high in a high ponytail that really helps a lot to balance out such long hair on a very short person. If you really like very long hair, i think it's a very good idea to keep it up high in a high ponytail. Besides a ponytail, if you really like long hair, another great option is to consider updo bumps any type of bumps if they're, on top of your head, that's gon na vertically elongate your frame, so that's very flattering besides. They also create more volume. On top of your head, which is what you want, if you are petite, adding highlights or layering near your face, is another great way. If you are petite highlights, can draw attention to your face. That always works very well. If you are petite besides, highlights, can also add dimension to your hair, and that can make your hair look more voluminous without increasing the size of your head highlights can be pretty flattering, no matter how long your hair is. I'Ve also noticed if i grow my hair longer and if i keep them black, it's much easier for them to look overwhelming for my height. However, if i get highlights they can look more flattering on me when my hair is longer because of the additional dimension, we all love volume in our hair, but if you're petite, you do want to make sure your volume is going upwards and you want to be Very careful with the volume that goes this way, because if your hair is long and if you got a lot of volume in your hair, it's possible, they can make your head look even bigger on someone who's short and that can look out of proportion. For your height, if you're petite, you probably already know you need to wear clothes, that really fits you that you may not have realized. Another very important part of the equation is to make sure you are wearing them to divide your body into the right proportion. I didn't realize this until after many many years of trial and error make sure you watch this video. The best dieting tips if you are petite and how to use the rule of thirds to divide your body into the most ideal proportion so that the eye is going to think your legs look longer and your proportion look better.

Jeannine D.: I'm 5'2" also and went salt and pepper 6 yrs ago. I didn't want a short style so I played around with updos and have figured out that high buns are indeed the best for me. I want to add that you need to remember your profile when picking a flattering hair style...great video

Cristiana Nicolae: I am petite and I LOVE my waistline long hair. Sorry, I will not cut it. However, I noticed that "updos" seem to look very good on me. Maybe because they give the illusion that I am taller. Because of my tall forehead, some people think I should cover it with hair. Sorry, I don't like getting acne on my forehead, I don't like to feel the hairtips tickling me and I don't want to spend my time trying to tame my hair and trying to convince it to look exactly like a Vulcanian "bretton". :-) Now I see that you also mentioned updos. Thank you for thinking about the people who like wearing long hair!

Sherri H: I love your videos, thank you so much for your insight. I am 5' 3" and deal with trying to not look any shorter along with staying in style. You always have great tips!

Lori Walter: I am 5'2" with broad shoulders, a small head, and thick wavy silver hair. Wearing it up is a lifesaver. This helps a lot.

Hikaru Nakamura: I love you so much, Chi. You have changed my life. Fashion was always a very intimidating thing for me, but the science and structure you bring is the *only* thing that helps me understand. I can't appreciate you enough. I'm a huge fan, you are so awesome, and thank you again for changing my life! Love you, Professor Chi!!!

Dominique The easy minimalist: I got the inverted bob hairstyle with bangs last winter and I loooooooove it! So easy to maintain and versatile, and always looks chic

Symphony Johnson: I wish I had seen some curly hair in this video. I only saw curly hair when you were using it as an example of too much volume. Many petites, like myself, have curly hair, that can grow up and outward, and will just naturally be voluminous. I still found value in the video and love all your videos!

shortwaist: illuminating chi! thank you. the photos of you and your fam were just adorable. i recently chopped my lng hair to shoulder length, added bangs, and it was a game changer! (i'm 5'4")

Kimberly Perrotis: Even though I’m petite, I have a head that looks too small for my body. I think updos exposing the neck are really flattering, but I have to wear glasses, so I think they make me look librarianish. I often just put the front section up.

Sara Williams: Oh wow! This explains why I feel better with my hair straighter. Such wisdom. Thank you x

Prettite !: This is a great topic! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone address this before. So thanks for thinking of fresh, new content for petites! That really sets you apart. I do agree with some other commenters that this video only really considers petites with straight hair. Petites with curly, coily, and kinky hair aren’t really going to be able to follow this advice. Please just keep this in mind when you are doing videos about things that are not universal across all people groups and even within one people group. If discussing things like hair, eye, or skin color, consider the diversity of your viewers and incorporate them all — or at least explicitly acknowledge that you’re only speaking to a subset of them (since you’re obviously not going to be an expert on things that don’t apply to you unless you take the time to research them). That said, great video!

Chris Lee: love your videos. thank you for being so helpful to us vertically challenged.

Monk n' Cook: Excellent content. May I also add that adding highlights (or lighten hair in general) make one look more youthful. Take Jennifer Lopez for example, she’s always rocking highlights or often light hair which makes her very youthful.

lili ju: I have really improved my looks since I started watching your videos, I am 5'3 and an hourglass shape and I always felt ashamed about my curves and tried to hide them but that made me look like a little barrel. Now I have learnt how to work with proportions and colors and I feel confident about the way I look.

Jacqueline Oquendo: Loved this! I recently cut my hair to a longer pixie and have zero regrets !

Kathy Fischer: I have a Pixie! I'm 5" and and going on 51 soon. I stopped coloring my hair when I was 47, so I have natural highlights (as my mother calls the silver. Lol) I love my short hair and it's natural hair color.

Laurence: That was great, informative, and well researched. Thank you.

Jayne Nicoletti: Hair texture plays a big role. I have curly frizzy hair that needs weight and I am 5'2". If it's a certain short length, it is way to "big" and frizzy. Now it's not down to my waist but a Bob would not work for my texture unless I was a slave to a blow dryer, straightening iron, and living in Alaska (no humidity). You have gorgeous hair tho!

Kimberly Perrotis: What a darling family you are! My friends and relatives nagged me for years to grow out my bangs, so I finally did it. But my hair grows straight over my face, that why I had them, and just ended up wearing a boring thin plastic headband every day. I think it does lengthen my oval, but fleshy face. When I lost too much weight ten years ago, I did get my bony face back, but was it ever wrinkled, my neck, too.

Ecclesia xxi: I'm 5'0 and I have hair down to my hips and I love it (it has some waves and little curls, especially when I braid it), not going back and people would be surprised how much easier it is to manage compared to shorter or mid length hair. Nothing but compliments from people too (esp. strangers), my family have come round to my choice of hair length and accepted that's the direction/style I'm in lol.

Beata Chytrackova: Perfectly explained, thank you!

Gina Tober: Great topic, and timely. I can’t decide what to do with my hair. This helps.

Tami O'Connell: Well nothing was addressed for us who have naturally curly hair! Some of those cuts are impossible with curly hair.

Surbhi Singh: Amazed how you address just everything. Please keep coming with such fresh ideas LOVEEE Youuu ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Erica DeWitt: Thank you, Chi. This is so informative!

Mary Gillespie: Chi, you look more beautiful than usual in this video! Please tell us about your eyeshadow and blusher!

E Nonchan: My natural fro and curls adds volume to my 5'2 frame, but I'm not going to perm it straight to achieve a bob or pixie. Don't forget that everyone isn't naturally straight and wouldn't have it any other way.

Barbara Ruiz: Always great advice ! thank you for sharing

Susan Ruby: I am growing out a pixie cut and am working toward a chin length bob. The bob is easy to style and looks good without a ton of effort.

Marysia_ ML: Thank you Chi, quite different subject, but very interesting

zahra kotsos: I love long hair but shorter hair is modern for a mature women. Less work when it comes to shampooing. My arm gets tired. I like feeling hot water on my head. I have a pixie.

Kontratovici Emma: I am 1.62m tall, I have a squared face with a pretty strong jawline and blunt chin. I have narrow-ish to normal sized shoulders but they are bigger than my hips (they're real narrow). I also have curly hair with straighter, more flat roots and love some hair volume. So because of all of this my head looks big in comparison with my body. I struggle with all hair styles except medium length, layered ones. I've not seen many people with these characteristics yet so it's a pain.

Grace Wise: Great video ..! No one talks about this! Thank you.

loverainthunder: Thank you for covering plus sized petite too!

Shara N: This is great for straight hair, but not for someone with naturally curly hair.

Qing Mooney: This is very helpful! Thank you!

Louise Dolloff: No bobs. No pixies. I am a 5ft curvy petite with wide shoulders even when I am skinny and an oval face. I look best in a mid length shag or shaggy lob which helps tame my thick heavy waves, and goes with my outside of the box left of center rebel personality

Normandy F: I'm 5'1 and have long hair in layers and I'm not cutting it. My hair looks better in layers bc it lift up my face

MomAna: What a fun video. Great job ❤️

Melina Garcia: ALL MY CURLY GIRLS: YOUR HAIR IS BEAUTIFUL TOO. I personally like an asymmetrical CURLY bob. 3A/3B, 5'0

Lynne Battaglia-Triggs: We don’t want to look like a tiny pinhead! That just makes the body look bigger in comparison.

Christina Harrison: Excellent tips! I always consult my hair stylist and remind her that it had to look right with my silhouette.

My Life Chronicles: Some of us naturally have the "X" hair. I guess I just have to accept that not every video is for me.

Fiona Frazer: You are so right - long hair is much less work!

Anita T: What about low buns? I'm trying to wear hats regularly to protect my skin so high updos aren't practical.

Andreina Fuentes: Awesome video as always!!!!

RAsVault: I think your hair looked good too when you curled it!

California Dreaming: You are soooo skillful, I always have fun with you ✨✨✨,

Shailyy: Thnx for sharing your valuable knowledge with us .. Stay Blessed Stay Happy

elenafoley Foley: Excellent video with great advice ⭐⭐⭐ Thankyou Chi

Rachel Zenhausern: I have abundant, naturally curly hair. Now you made me feel insecure that it makes my head bigger. A Bob makes me look like Little Orphan Annie.

Abinesh Awaz: Happy to see ur beautiful family ☺️❣️

Shec: Best hairstyle for shorter women? Whatever the fu** you want to rock!

elenafoley Foley: Excellent video with great advice ⭐⭐⭐ Thankyou Chi

Maimoona Aijaz: Great tips

Barry West: I prefer short women with long hair.

Silvia Khan: Just in time! Going for a trim/haircut today! I have soft wavy hair have let it grow up to my shoulders length. I have tons of fine wavy hair people at the office with fine hair would always say something in the elevator and men too some said was sexy. Ok?! Lol! Don’t know about that but yeah lots of volume on this 5’3 smurf. I like the length now as when gardening I can pick it up all off the face. I have the Conair big curls hardly use it but it does create shine and nice soft curls on special occasion I think I might start using again once a week. Don’t like the heat on modern hair irons they’ll destroy hair. This one is gentle the best. Been checking out what other gadgets are new out here to get one?

Admin2020: Actually thought the curls looked really good and made your head look smaller

Shinpora: I wish i found this channel YEARS ago.
