Hey guys Steven a Salonga here and welcome to the salon guy on demand, and today I've got Ava who's going to be my model and we're doing a haircut today, and this is kind of like a a long length. Layered haircut like a medium length, layered haircuts - and this is one of my kind of go-to haircuts - and this is great, for you know really really long - it's great for someone, maybe on shoulder length through the technique that makes this haircut. But it's really really amazing and I'm ready to go. Let'S get started alright. So what we're going to do is we're going to start in the back of the head and we're going to basically create our outline first and that's the really key thing to a haircut like this, and I think almost any haircut is creating your base. And when I say base I mean the length and also the face framing and everything that really is a foundation of the haircut and I've taught this haircut many times. I'Ve done this haircut so many times. This is kind of like my go-to kind of like my money cut. I call this my money cut, because this really is a gorgeous gorgeous haircut, that I think it's modern and sexy, and it really gives a lot of life to you know someone's hair, who maybe not might not have a lot of layers and needs a little bit Of extra love so we're basically going to leave a good amount of the length. But I want to trim up the layers a little bit. So we're going to cut probably about an inch to an inch and a half the most, because their ends needed it. And all we're going to do is simply create our base. One length haircut - and this is probably the easiest part in the back - is creating our solid foundation here and we're just simply taking a section by section and, as you can see, I'm not really clipping the hair up. It'S saving me time, I'm just literally taking horizontal diagonal sections just to give myself a clear opening, so I can work very efficiently and I'm just creating a one length shape, I'm not creating any layers yet, but I'm just creating a foundation. So this is literally like a one length haircut, but we are going to work our way in through the sides and the front at some point. But here is a crucial part as well now in the back here, I'm working right down the center, but now in this corner all right this corner right into here, I'm not bringing it out this way, I'm literally going to comb it straight down in somewhat of An over direction, so we can keep the corner or keep that length because we want to keep a solid shape. I rather go in and get rid of that corner later, so I like to over direct and keep it all back within one within one area right through here now. Look at the see that on this side, a little bit clearer, combing it all straight down and literally I'm staying within this parameter right here. Okay right in through here, I'm not going to extend the haircut out here, I'm going to stand right in the back right behind it right blind head here and I'm going to comb straight down and I'm going to cut the corner right here. I'M going to cut this right here, so I'm cutting all the way in the corner here, but I'm leaving this so I can swing this around and take that off in this area right into here, and this also prevents from leaving creating holes and things like that, Which is really essential so now what we're going to do is connect this and now work our way upwards, going into the shape. Okay. So how we do that is basically push this hair out of the way we're going to comb it straight down. There'S the corner! All right there's where we left off now that gives us that protection that we need to work forward this way and now we're going to start to create our angle now. Ava here already had kind of a faith frame already, which you can see your nice little faith frame. So all we're going to do is we're going to kind of follow that pattern. So I'm going to now angle my fingers upwards this way and we're going to come in and cut the same thing here now, I'm starting to comb this down a little bit more forward, and here is where we need to kind of reconnect everything. So now I'm going to cut down and we're working upwards. This way so hair, the hair rule that doesn't need to be cut, will kind of fall out of the section and that's totally fine. But what we're doing is we're creating a solid foundation right into here, which is essential, which is really really essential. So, as you can see now we're really thickening up the shape right into here. Okay, but in a previous haircut I can see there's a little bit of disconnection right into here and we need to fix that up. So, let's comb this all straight down and we're now going to pick out where our angles in it start so when it's going to start kind of right around the chin area, a little lower than the chin and we're going to cut straight down on an angle. What we're going to do is we're going to connect everything together and now, as you can see, what that's doing is also it's thickened up the shape right into the front, and it's also allowed for us to connect everything right in through here, which now looks good And now, if we want to take it a little bit shorter and a little bit higher up on an angle, we can do that right here. So now we're going to do the same thing on the other side and we're going to come back and we'll meet up right where, when we're in the middle of the face frame, okay, so what I like to do is what I'm done: creating the angle right Into here I like to comb everything straight down, create a little bit of a triangle right into the top here and then I'll bring everything forward, just to make sure that everything is balanced. And this is a good way to tell if everything is even and if there's any longer pieces like you're a little bit in that corner right there not not much. This is a good way to tell if you're well balanced and then everything else you can just kind of pull forward and it's good to go so now. What we're going to do is we're going to create the layers and we're going to do that by starting in through the back right in through here. So I'm going to spin her around this way, then we're going to take a section right into the top here and I'll show you how we're going to connect everything all right now. What we're going to do is we're going to take a section right at the very top back of the head, and this is going to be pretty much the foundation for the rest of the haircut. And this is where we're going to create the layers. In the back now, Ava doesn't really have a whole lot of layers going on if she does or like really really really long. So we still want to maintain somewhat of a longer layered shape, but we want to make sure it's all working together and all balance and we want to take off a little bit amount so that we can create some more movement. So here's what we're going to cut and as you can see her ends, really need it all right. So we're keeping somewhat of a longer layered shape and the key to this whole haircut is going from shorter towards the front and then gradually working longer towards the back with the layers and stuff. What we're going to do now is take a horizontal section right, underneath the previous section we just took and what we're going to do is comb this straight up as well. Why make sure we call them every single hair? And here is what we're going to cut as you can see, our guide is right underneath and then we're going to actually just comb this all straight down. We'Re going to do the same thing on this side. We'Re going to take a piece right here and we're going to match it up with the other side that we just did comb it straight up and there's the guide and we're going to cut straight across we're going to take one more section right underneath and explain. Why we're doing this and it's SEC, but this is again it's keeping us balanced. It'S making sure that our layers are going to be perfectly even in the back and that's what we want. We want. It really even shape so we're combing using the fine teeth, we're combing all the hair straight up from the head and then we're going to make sure that we're matched up. There'S the guide we're going to cut straight across just like that, as you can see, we clean up those ends and we're going to drop that section down so now, what's going to happen, is we have to now connect the back with the layers in to the Bottom now so now we left off, and the layers are sitting about right here. So now, how do we connect it because we brought everything up horizontally? Where now we're going to cut vertically - and this is how we're going to connect the shape so we're going to comb everything straight out like this, and we are going to connect where we left off so we're going to connect this by combing. It straight out. And here is where the layers were left off, there's a piece we have to cut and we're going to cut that we're going to follow this pattern throughout the entire back of the head, I'm using the fine teeth because I really want to make sure have a Good solid haircut - and this is also going to help make sure everything is even especially on fine hair. You really want to make sure that everything is pretty tight. As far as your sections, the haircut everything's got to really really lay properly together, and this is really crucial to this area right into here, which you'll be able to see on the other side, but we're combing this out and we're pushing this away from the head Shape so that we can maintain the weight again into those corners and that's how we're going to take it off right there. So we're going to comb and there's a little bit of hair that either come off and we're going to cut it now, keep in mind, you don't want to cut the very very bottom, because that is your length and if you cut your length, then it's going To disrupt the shape which we don't want to do so here is now picking up on the other side and that's where we connect everything. Now, if you the reason, I only took two sections from this area up is because, when you lift hair, you actually are moving a lot of weight, so I didn't want to remove a lot of weight because her hair of a finer texture. So what I did this is where I'm connecting it, so we still have the thickness that we need, but we're making sure it's all even so now the back is completely done as far as the layers go and we've got the length. We'Ve got a lot more movement going on and we've got that really sexy beautiful layered shape. So now, let's connect the top back part with the top of the head here, where you are at the top back of the head, and how are we going to connect this? Well, I have this technique where I connect by simply combing the hair and creating a section right down the middle, and we are going to comb the hair straight up this way and there is our guide. Okay, there's our guide from before, and here is what we need to cut. This is now connecting the back and the top. This is a trick that I've been doing for quite some time. It really helps you get a better visual and it really helps you connect. The whole shape a lot of times. People are you don't really know where to connect? Well, this is where you do it. There'S the guide: we're going to cut straight across we're going to come back here on the other side and we're going to follow the same thing until we get to the corners. You don't want to go too far into the corner, because that is a whole different area of the cut. That'S a different part of the head shape. So what we're doing right now is we're literally just trying to connect and blend these two areas right here. So now we're going to work forward this way and how do we do that? We get a lift hair out of the way and we are going to create a horizontal section and we're going to pick the hair straight up. But we're going to push the corners out of the way and what that's going to do? It'S going to give us a clear vision now of moving forward, because we do have our guide now we connect it already. So now it's going to be easy for us to move work our way forward, and here there shouldn't be a lot of hair coming along, because we did so well with the face framing. So there's our piece right. There we're going to take a piece from that and again we're going to create another horizontal section and now we're going to work towards the front and there's just a little little bit. That needs to come off and then the very front piece we'll take this right into here, we're going to comb it straight up and most lately there's not going to be a lot of hair coming off. But if there is, you just take that off and you're good to go. So now we're going to work in through the actual corners and we're now going to connect all this together. And this is also key too, because you want everything to not only have a flow up here but got to all flow going from this point of the head down. So now, how do we take on the corner as well we're going to follow a pattern like we've been doing where we're now going to create an area right in through here, which is actually the corners? The roundness of the head is the corner, so we have to connect the layers which we can see right here. There is the guide which is up here and here's where we had to connect we're going to extend this all the way down, all right, all the way down to the bottom. Let the hair fall that doesn't need to be cut because that's the very length - and you don't want to disrupt the length now we're going to go back following the same pattern find in the corner of the hair of the head here. We'Re going to comb it straight out from the head and wait for it, and there is. The hair will basically pop out at you and it's going to be very obvious. What needs to be cut? What you don't want to do. Is you really want to be careful? You don't want it like in this area. This is your length. This very bottom part is the length you want to let that piece drop out, because that's your very that's. The support for the whole base. Now we're going to comb them straight up again, there is the corner that needs to be cut, we're going to round this out and make sure it's all even here and blended, which it is and then the very front we're just going to comb this back. We'Re going to over direct this back a little bit to make sure that everything is connected together and it should all blend in nicely. There shouldn't really be much coming off, just a little little piece right there and that's it so now, we're going to do is we're going to mirror the same thing on the other side and then I'll show you a little bit of a trick right in through The top session to make sure it's all blended, all right so now this is a little secret that I do and I don't want to be a secret, because I want you guys to learn this, but this is how I basically make sure that the whole top And the whole shape is connected. I take a strip right down the middle just like this, and I will comb this all straight up and I'll see, there's a little bit right there of the corner right here. It needs to be cut on top here and I'll. Do this right here to make sure it's all connected if there's a lot of pieces that are really really way off, or it's a lot longer or you see a lot of, then you might have to go back in and reshape it and you might have done Something that was a little off, but what I'm doing now is just cutting those little that little corner right there, which adds a little bit of extra weight to the hair, which you don't really want, because you want this to really flow and have a nice movement To it, comb it straight up, there's that little hair right there that you want to cut and that's it so the shape is complete. Now we're going to blow-dry it and I'll show you guys. The finished results, alright guys so for the blow drying on this haircut. What I did is I blow dried everything towards the face like this: okay and what it does it steps at all, so that the volume is taking shape right into the front and what I then did is blow dried. Everything kind of under gave it a little bit of volume, but maybe doing a little flips or some waves, and things like that, so I was this - is this - is the whole exciting part of it? This is what you want to do, so a bring your head back a little bit, so you want the client to bring your head back you're going to rake all their hair back kind of off their face away from them. Now, okay I'll tell you one so you're going to keep their head back like this. Now this is creating the volume creating the shape and now, okay lean forward. Now everything falls right into place. Okay and see this creates a gorgeous gorgeous shape gorgeous layers, and I think this is absolutely stunning, so it's a great kind of haircut to have in your arsenal of haircuts for sexy long layers just spin around turn this way a little bit as you can see. Look how how nice it flows in let's turn this way and see how this really has a gorgeous flow to it, and I think this came out gorgeous
